Awesome food, as well as service and ambiance! Their plates are perfect to share tapas/ family style. We ordered a ton of them and I must say the Seared Octopus and Mango salad were pure perfection. Oh and the roasted baby eggplant was to die for. I wasn't so fond of the jerk chicken wings or the buttermilk fried quail, but most dishes were above average. Beautiful fusion of flavors. Would definitely be back and/ or recommend this place.

Great cocktails Great food Great company Small portions but everything was delicious It's a great place to go get drinks and listen to live music by the pool or have fun dinner with interesting eats.... They're more Tapas style plates which makes it great because you can order a lot of different things and share. The prices for the portions are a bit pricey but you won't be disappointed. Besides you can't blame them- they gotta pay rent ;) ***We paid about $330 for 5 people. Plenty of drinks food and deserts...

drop in here just to check the place out. they did an amazing job of bringing it back to proper glory. this place is like taking a trip back in time to what north beach was in the 70's when all those mimo beach hotels still had some of their glory. we didnt stick around for dinner but the french folky/hipsterish band that was playing by the pool was very cool.

I am not sure what made me happier: The V.'s bright and cheery open space, 70's California playlist, or the fun brunch menu, a fusion of American, Mexican, Japanese, European and even Israeli food. We got to chat briefly with chef Alex, who is totally down to earth and easy on the eyes. Our waiter Jandre (sorry if I'm butchering his name) was not exactly chopped liver either, and gave us great service to boot. The two sweet dishes on the brunch menu are great to share, I don't believe they would stand on their own as an entree. The waffle was so moist and fluffy that it didn't need maple syrup. The plantain jam on top was delicious, I just needed more of it. The Japanse milk bread topped with ricotta and home made berry preserves looks as good as it tastes. Baked in house, it's a really soft white bread. They pan toast it so the bottom is crispy and the top soft. If you've ever been to Japan and noticed how all of their bread is very artificially white and spongy, this will take you back there. The crispy blue corn tlacoyo with epazote and tomato salsa was awesome. So many colors on the plate. Loved the tiny squash blossoms, and the eggs were perfectly scrambled. Fluffy and still a little runny. It's refreshing to have a place in Miami that doesn't take itself too seriously, and where the staff seems to actually have fun. Last time I experienced that was at Eating House.

Gnocchi, Lamb, Short Rib, Vagabond Burger, Grilled Iberico diafragma, etc. There is not a dish or a drink that wasn't exquisite & well thought out. My friends and I left the Vagabond truly impressed and thankful for the prepreation and care that went into each dish. The service was top notch (not something Miami is known for), a welcomed addition to the Miami food scene. This Vagabond is creating a food culture that is diverse, intelligent, and uplifting to our culture...we eventually will be greatful for this treasure in our community. Fine dining that rivals any resturant on South Beach...Thank You.

Eh. Vagabond is the definition of "more sizzle than steak". It's an interesting concept filled with cool design and beautiful people who want to see and be seen, but the actual service, food and prices are questionable. So it really depends on what you are wanting out of a restaurant or a night out: if you want cocktails and mingling with the fabulous crowd then it probably rates higher. If you want great food and to hang with your friends, this isn't the spot. If you're young and single, option "A" is perfectly reasonable. But I'm older, married, non-fabulous and like food so Vagabond isn't my thing. I will give it props for uniqueness. I'd never seen nor conceived of a super high-end "skybar" like vibe being established in a motor lodge. Leave it to Miami Beach to create the coolest, most trendy motel in existence. They were also pretty clever in embracing the sort of 50's midcentury modern vibe that perfectly fits the Vagabond's history, while updating it to crate a slick, Miami Modern version. They often also have performances by the pool, and when that's not on offer, at least a DJ. The food in the restaurant itself is quite expensive and of middling quality. I will give credit that they go for innovative dishes. We came with a group of friends, and started with Chapulines (crickets sauteed with almonds and Szechuan peppercorns); they were interesting, but honestly if you didn't say they were crickets, you wouldn't notice nor be impressed since it was a bit under-crispy. We also had items like pan-seared beef heart (served with an egg yolk). It was fine, but again middling. Finally the skirt steak, which was ok. There's a trend here. The service was also a bit on the slow and unresponsive side. While not overtly unfriendly, it was also clear there was going to be nothing but the most basic level of service for us. Not sure if this is universal, or just a symptom of the upscale trendy atmosphere. So bottom line: it was Ok, but nothing we'd go out of our way to eat again -- but I can think of worse places to visit if you're looking to mingle.

Food was great but the hostess was very snobby. Walked into a completely empty restaurant only to be told they were really busy and would see "IF" they could seat us at a price fixe menu... Told her we wouldn't be doing that then she proceeded to seat us at the end of the restaurant in a corner. Waitress was really nice and very attentive. Portions are really small so make sure you get a bunch to share.

What an amazing experience!!! The food is indescribably delicious. I have never experienced a meal like this before. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Each plate was better than the last. The pigs head and octopus were cooked to perfection. The key lime pie was heavenly. I highly recommend this place. It's a tapas style so bring friends who are willing to try different and exciting foods. A night to remember!!

I moved back to NYC from Miami in September and haven't been back for a few months now. Upon my most recent trip, I had to get the 411 from many friends on what new restaurants opened while I was away. Vagabond was one name that kept coming up so of course I had to check it out. My girlfriend and I went on a Friday night and it was packed. We didn't have to wait long for a table and scored one right in the window. AMBIANCE The atmosphere is unlike any other restaurant in Miami. It's a modern spin on the retro vibe. I absolutely loved it. The layout was awesome as well as you could see almost every table from wherever you are seated. Lastly, the kitchen is a part of the open layout, so you can see everything going on (and even sit at the counter by the kitchen to really get a closer look). The staff was on point and we didn't have to wait long for anything (water especially, which is a pet peeve of mine). He was quick and attentive and recommended some great dishes. FOOD + Chicken wings - I'm from Buffalo so trust me, I KNOW what's up! I'm always skeptical to order wings anywhere because yes, the rumors are true, they are the best in Buffalo! I was advised that these were not just your ordinary wings, they are smoked over allspice leaves. The flavor really shined through as these were seasoned to perfection. They had a really unique taste that made these a favorite. + Blistered Cauliflower with grilled goats milk and smoked trout roe - I am obsessed with cauliflower, like, obsessed. I could eat this for breakfast, lunch & dinner. The presentation of this dish made me not even want to touch it, as it was that well presented (see photo). This was like something out of a 3-Michelin starred restaurant. The flavor was even better than the presentation. Seriously delicious. A MUST-ORDER. + Octopus - Another thing that I'm obsessed with is octopus. Melanie and octopus are side by side in the dictionary. If there is octopus on the menu, I am compelled to order it. It's like an unspoken rule. All of my friends know this and so as soon as we saw this on the menu, my girlfriend was like I know what you're ordering...yup! It had rancho gordo bean, epazote, and hojasanta. Don't know what those are? Neither do I! What I do know was that the octopus was so tender it melted in my mouth. It's seared then braised then baked. What a process. The food is really unique and not your traditional Miami restaurant with a wonderful scene and shitty food. This place doesn't disappoint. It's on par with some Michelin restaurants and is definitely making a splash in the culinary world in Miami. COCKTAILS I'm a wine drinker. Me and vodka don't get along (well we do but it's a love/hate relationship). We went to the pool beforehand to check out the vibe (with dj spinning and all) and I was talked into ordering a Vagabond Collins. It's with vodka, lemon, lime, angostura bitters, and topped with rekorderlig pear cider. Another MUST-ORDER. Stop by the pool before dinner and definitely order this. I could have drank those like water all night. Inside at dinner, I had another type of cocktail and of course after a few of those, I forgot what I had (oops). They have mixologists that can serve up a mean cocktail. Definitely check this place out and be prepared for an experience.

Vagabond Restaurant and Bar is one of those places that just didn't live up to the hype. There are many pros and cons. First, the ambience I great. Vagabond takes you back to back to a classier time, to the glory days of the upper east side. There is plenty of light, welcoming fixtures/furniture and a relaxed layout which makes you instantly feel at home. Next, the service. When we walked in a friendly host told us our table was almost ready and to have a seat at the bar. We had a reservation for 9, but we were not sat until at least 925. If I were just alone with my fiance, I probably would have left and found another place to eat but we were with a group. Our waitress was very friendly, but it seemed the entire restaurant from the bar to the kitchen was short staffed as everything just took awhile. For example, dessert took over 15 minutes (and it's not like they were cooking a soufflé). I had to ask for my drink orders several times. Speaking of cocktails, the menu was extremely creative. My first drink, the High Point Bourbon Milk was delicious. It was silky smooth and had the perfect amount of sweetness. My other cocktail was a bit strange and kinda tasted like curry (probably because of the Gara masala) but it was certainly creative. The food overall was either hit or miss. For example, both the gnocchi and the stracticllea were amazing. Both had great texture and flavors that really came through. The gnocchi in particular were something special. The problem is you only get a few pieces. The plates were exceptionally small, especially for the price. I understand it's meant to order a bunch and share, but everyone should get more than one bite. There was no food that was actually bad, but some items were a but stange. For example, the beef tartar was overwhelming on the mint. Also, I really don't get why people are so crazy about the pistachio cake. Yes it is creative, but it's more earthy and vegetable than a dessert. The Chocolate tart was tasty. Overall, it was a good experience but not my favorite meal. If the gnocchi was a full sized portion I would go back just for that all the time. I am also glad to see chefs trying new things and being innovative in Miami rather than just trying to create a scene.

Hands down most out-of-the-box menu I have seen since the opening of The Eating House whose chef Giorgio Rapicavoli (in the most inoffensive way possible) must have been high or in another alternative state when creating his cap n' crunch pancakes. The Vagabond Restaurant is definitely a place where you can't order any of your "go-to's" as the flavors will strike you from left field. It's all about trial and error. We ordered to share, ratings below based on a table of four (including a vegetarian, meatatarian, sauce-a-holic and Chad) Peanuts & Chapulines (2/4) - FYI Chapulines are grasshoppers (they add great texture, crunch) Stracciatella (4/4) - Amazing! Could totally use as butter on a daily basis Crispy Pigs Head (1/2) - Loved all the flavors, but Chad didn't think it was anything special. Dry-aged Beef Tartare (3/3) - Can we talk about flavor?! Sauce-a-Holocene was licking the bowl. Jerk Chicken Wings (1/4) - Disclaimer: Sauce has allspice. I'm not a fan of allspice in general. Crispy Fingerling Potatoes (2/4) - Once you've had one Potato, you've had them all. Seared Octopus (2/3) - Decent, but a really small portion. Buttermilk Fried Quail (1/3) - Um, just got to Yardbird. Pistachio Cake (1/4) - Very interesting!! Wouldn't order again, but would eat (without making a face) if served to me at a dinner party. Key Lime Pie (3/3) - O.M.G. Chocolate Tart (4/4) - Heaven!!!

Delightful and delicious delicacies abound at this local new-old hot spot. I would call it a neighborhood standout because it's in my stomping ground, but vagabond is so much more than that and is worthy of becoming a destination location. Firstly, the vibe is so cool it's hot. Open kitchen, reminiscence of a bygone era, stylish yet diverse clientele, and welcoming dining area with huge open space and windows. It just feels good. Second, service. Knowledgeable, warm, and attentive. Eager (bordering on too much so, but sincere, so not a negative). Our server Angela was honest with her recommendations, not pushy to upsell, and -sorry- so adorable! Not to mention kind and professional. Management was unobtrusively present - as they should be. I know what you're thinking but don't fret; I've simply saved the best for last. The food was amazing. Rooted in familiar items but taken to the next level, this was one of the best meals I've had the pleasure of enjoying in recent years. Exhibit A: sweet and sour shrimp. We've all eaten something similar, more than likely of the over battered, over cooked, murder your palate with sauce and sugar variety. The vagabond's version couldn't be further from that. It's light, perfectly cooked, and just really damn interesting flavor wise. Thinly shaved ginger pops out the flavor of the shrimp subtly. In a world where seafood that isn't over cooked is as difficult to find as the mythological chupocobra, it's worth mentioning twice (or more) that this protein was perfectly cooked. Supple and satisfying, it was just divine. Exhibit B: pistachio cake. This dessert is special. I call it my sweet terrarium, because that's what it looks like. Rather than being presented as a slice of cake, this dessert is prepared as a crumble. Marscapone cheese "icing" tops the somewhat savory, herby dish to balance it perfectly. As Angela kindly advised us, it's a love-hate kind of item, and all three of us decidedly LOVED. I could go on but it would be more of the same. The food was just inspired from top to bottom. I will definitely return, and I can rarely say that decidedly of a high end restaurant. Bottom line: Warm and unpretentious, the Vagabond epitomizes what dining the out experience should be in every category. This is the food of the future.

I came here with high hopes and while it didn't totally disappoint, I also wasn't blown away. Props for the location, decor and ambiance, but I found most plates -- while delicious! -- to be overpriced and under-portioned. We had to order several dishes in order to get full: gnocchi, jerk wings, sweet & sour shrimp, stracciatella, beef tartar, fingerling potatoes and more. All were very flavorful and pretty unique, but I felt I barely had a bite or two of each. When I came in a large group for a friend's birthday, service was a bit slow and impersonal. My favorite area is the pool/bar, which is very relaxed, good music and a chill place to hang outdoors on a Sunday.

RED ALERT!!!! If you have allergies, dietary restriction, or want the kitchen to simply not include a condiment...i.e. dairy. Bring your Epi-pen. Went for Mother's Day with several mothers of all ages. The older ones had a tough time with the hipster style Shi shi fu fu menu and the inflexibility of the kitchen staff. I guess they don't have moms in L.A. Where the chef is from. Case in point... we wanted rye bread rather than regular white bread on the turkey sandwich and we had to pay for an order of rye and swap it ourselves because the chef refused to do it. Can you say pre-madonna. Food was good. Ambiance was nice, but loud do to the acoustics. Very cafeteria style open atmosphere. Pricing was fair and reasonable. Portions were appropriate. Service by the wait staff was excellent. Clearly the kitchens desire to accommodate the clientele is lacking or actually non existent. I give it 2.5 stars but would have to seriously consider the state of mind I'm in because I know there will be no accommodations for the customer. And although I am a very health conscious and mindful of what I eat. As I would think most people would want to be occasionally. It speaks volumes of the culture and mindset of an establishment who has such little regard for the overall experience that a customer is left with. And doesn't understand that details matter. Probably why there are so many mixed reviews about this establishment.

3.5 stars. Ricotta gnocchi was quite good. Softness of gnocchi complemented w the crispy crumbles were delish. Tomato salad -wow. Cobia ceviche was awesome -- fish (tad undercooked= perfection). Sweet & sour shrimp -- needs to be tad less sweet so to balance more properly w the sour flavor. Soft shell crabs would've been perfect if not over-salted. Friday night vibes here were excellent ! Overall we enjoyed the experience here.

We've had beef heart , pork head, burger and upside down cake every dish was unique but for me the best was ( very unexpected) burger and fries! I am not a burger girl but that blow my mind tender and juicy and fries crunchy and packed with flavors

Today was my first time coming here for brunch with a group of four. I was pleased to be seated right away as many locations in miami have a minimum 45 min wait. The environment is very casual chic. The restaurant is very open and decorated with contemporary furniture and little accents. Over all the ambiance is really laid back. The waiter was prompt my only qualm was the time our bellinis took to arrive. I loved the half bottle of champagne it was ahmazing! Our table ordered burger= delicious and cooked to perfection Tuna melt= excellent Shrimp hash= perfect combination and delicious Plantain butter waffle = so delicious and the bacon butter was a great touch. Our waitress was great; very attentive and great personality. The good is meant for sharing but j honestly wouldn't agree with that. Con: the eggs Benedict was prepared with very raw eggs it's the only time on the menu I wouldn't reorder.

We were SO excited for this restaurant to open--and were very disappointed by the lack of professionalism of both the staff AND management. It started when we arrived for our dinner reservation and were (not) greeted by a podium of three clueless hostesses who were obviously not getting along. Even though there were many open tables and we had a reservation, there was some kind of issue...and only one of them looked at us when she spoke to us. The others were frustratedly futzing with the computer and whispering angrily back and forth. I don't know what the issue was, but after a manager (more on that later) came over, we were finally escorted to a table for two. No hello. No welcome. No sorry for the wait. No sorry for the unprofessional behavior. When our server introduced himself, he sees like a cool enough guy, but he was laying it on pretty thick. All of his menu descriptions included "super," "amazing," or "awesome." What we wanted to know was what stuff WAS. The menu was actually really unclear and, in some cases, misleading. FYI, there is no lamb in the "lamb's quarter." After a lengthy description of all the super awesome ingredients and even ordering the dish, I can't tell you what lamb's quarter is. The sad part is, the food is really good. Pricey. Maybe too pricey. But it's really good, which made the service/atmosphere issue a real shame. They only recently opened, and I guess the owners and chef and management were on hand tonight to celebrate. They were all working in the room (the men in self-satisfied, gray hipster suits), schmoozing with the hoity-toity, and generally making spectacles of themselves. They were getting in the way of their servers--and we had happened to be unlucky in being seated next to VIP out-of-towners. A female owner/manager/investor came over to shmooze and her butt was in our face for two full courses. We tried to separate ourselves, but we were stuck. And she didn't give us the time of day. Water is $2 per person--which you know is reprehensible--and what made matters worse is that we had to ask for refills. Our waiter eventually disappeared. (He promised he'd be back after "greeting" another table of apparent VIPs, and got lost in a vortex of schmoozing.) A poor bus girl ended up taking over our dinner service. She was the only one who seemed to be working amid the self-satisfied party going on in the restaurant. I haven't said anything about the food, really, which tells you a lot about what we took away from the evening. But, on the subject of taste, the Vagabond restaurant was a little too sceney for mine.

We sat down around 10 and after ordering our drinks, we were told that the kitchen as going to close in 10 minutes. We were still waiting on one guest but we ordered anyways. We ate, we were happy, and half way through our meal, our late guest finally arrived. We asked the maitre'd if we could possibly order one last meal, even though we knew the kitchen was closing down. (Doesn't hurt to ask?) He went to ask the kitchen, the kitchen said yes! Then it happened. Our waitress came by and said no. And with a stern attitude she said, "I told you the kitchen is closed." So we were all stunned by her lack of professionalism, and we decided not to push the ordeal in fear of her spitting on our food. How can the kitchen say yes, the maitre'd say yes, but our waitress say no? We weren't the last table in the restaurant, there were plenty of other parties! Poor service by the waitress but everyone else was great. Jerk chicken wings were amazing, but due to the inconsistency of their service, not sure if I would come back.

So far so good. I ate last night on 4.4.15. I have had three dinners and visited on the first brunch day. You may say that I am on the path of becoming possibly a regular. As you can see on my past posts that I live in MIMO district and this venue is literally walking distance from home. Besides of my personal advantage of being close to home. I LOVE THE VAGABOND RESTAURANT, because it transports me out of Miami. I gives me a West Coast vibe with an airy feel sprinkled with some NY soul. Aesthetically, the restoration of the landmark building injected with modern touches and open kitchen was done tastefully and not overdone. The venue is harmonious. I am writing this post because last night we had a B-day dinner party for about 20 people. And all around it was perfect. I have to say that management stepped up their game had staff on point. The expediting and table service was flawless and the food was right up on top. The restaurant was full and we where lucky to have reserved this area prior with days in advance. But, our service and reception was just as personable of a 2 top. The Menu a true fusion and has a great mix of options. You can order items ideal for sharing or order entree's for your own pleasure. You can go light or choose some of the dishes built for comfort. What I like about the menu which most restaurants don't do is, "Keep it Simple". The menu is a 1 page menu with list of choices all easy to read. What have I ordered through out my visits? DINNER: Sweetbread Milanesa, Whole roasted market fish, Seared octopus, Zucchini salad, Ricotta gnocchi, Heirloom tomato fattoush salad, Cobia tartare, Crispy pigs head, 16 oz. bone-in short rib. BRUNCH: Dry aged burger, Sun shrimp and Anson Mills blue corn grits, Buttermilk fried quail waffles, Chinese chicken salad and the Shakshouka I hope this was good reading for you all. What I have failed to mention is desserts. I have not done the sweets. I sampled 2 or 3 things from the plates shared but I don't know what they were. Hey, espresso was good, lol.

The food was amazing very creative and delicious. I had stellar service throughout the night our server was a sweet heart, even the manager stopped by to see how we were doing. Vagabond restaurant has one of the best secret pool bars in all of Miami, great for a intimate date night or a fun night with some friends. Loved all the pastries and desserts, simple flavors executed beautifully. Will definitely come back and try some of the new lunch items!

This review is based on the outside bar , not the actual restaurant. It was quite the unexpected surprise to see how this place has come back to life...the renovations of this hotel are great...the outside pool has kept some of its original charm, like the mermaid in the bottom of the pool but the rest has been nicely upgraded to modern and sleak. The bar is nicely equipped , pool has lounge chairs with torches and cabana style seating...and during this visit..there was a dj playing. Great spot to relax and enjoy our miami weather. I took a peak inside the restaurant and it was packed, looked very posh..honestly I can't wait to come back and try it. Def a great addition to the upper east side.

MUST SEE! Miami is in her glory days right now, it's true; but she's got a past--a pastel prom dress, powder puff, and string of pearls past--glamorous and enchanting with Jetson-esque architecture, cocktails by the pool, and all the world's coolest kids just in from points North. The loving restoration of Vagabond is retro perfection. You step into the multi-level space and you are in another era. What makes it so? Instead of gutting the place and trying to bastardize it into some sort of Trump-like pseudo palace, a sad fate that's befallen too many of our art deco gems, they nurtured the graceful sweeping arcs of the original architect's vision of modernity. It is not huge, nor is it cozy; it's human-scaled and bright. There's a sunken bar by the entrance with the dining area overlooking it and an open kitchen on one side. The pathway to the pool is through the double doors in the back. The pool bar is five star. You and your friends will feel like this: tinyurl.com/lypjymd I guarantee it. I can't capture the vibe of this pool bar in words--you just HAVE TO go there. It's a swanky urban oasis off the Boulevard. The lighting, the sound, EVERYTHING is just right. As for the food--I found it good, not great. Perhaps this says more about my own limitations than the true quality of the cuisine, but I must be honest. We struggled with the menu. It's a single page list of dishes, I guess they're meant to be all small plate shares, but I'm still not sure. The chef is a Mexico City superstar and you can tell by the number of clacking Spanish Xs in the dish descriptions that he's serving up realidad. The list goes from snack to side dish to fish to meat without any divisions that would help you visualize a meal in courses. And the offerings are not for the faint of heart. Did I say "heart?" Yes, heart is on the menu, as are other organ meats such as liver and sweetbreads. They also offer chapulines--uh, grasshoppers. So, we were a group of 3 ladies. We ordered 2 hamachi, an heirloom tomato salad, an endive and heart of palm salad, roasted baby carrots, fingerling potatoes, and a skirt steak. It was barely enough. The 2 salads were the stars of the day. The steak was yummy, quite spicy, but mini. The $14 carrot dish was something I thought might work well for a vegetarian main dish with nuts and mole. Not so. Granted we were sharing, but it was tiny. I think I got one nut. If you only try one dish, make it the pistachio dessert. It's a cake crumble over yogurt with roasted white chocolate. Not too sweet, and unlike anything I've tried before. We also tried the key lime pie and chocolate tart. The coconut sorbet on the lime was delish, but other items forgettable. The service team in the restaurant was spectacular. They answered every question, made suggestions, and made us feel at home. With this kind of energy and dedication, Vagabond's future is very bright indeed!

Venue and the pool bar are very nice, the food, that was horrible. The flavors were off on the food that was edible. One of the most pretentious "chef's tasting" menus I have ever seen. Go home chef, you are swinging above your pay grade.

Terrible terrible experience. I hate to say this because the food and service from our server Brittany was amazing. BUT, the 2 hostesses are incredibly rude and made our entire (and first) experience bad. We arrived for our 7pm reservation, and were the only ones there. We were given by far the worst table in the place (right by the kitchen back entrence and back door and major circulation area) and when asked to change were told very rudely that other tables had reservations too - even though there were 6 empty 4 tops just like ours. Sorry i didnt tip or bribe the hostess who think shes hot stuff. The female manager who asked how are meal was couldn't have given two craps about our poor experience. This is coming from a Four Seasons manager and Cornell Hospitality Masters graduate. No one cared or made any attempt to fix a very easy problem. The owner should be ashamed and would probably be mortified to know what is going on. I will never, ever recommend this to anyone based on our experience; friends or family, nor will i return. Really really a shame.

Worst Mother's Day EVER! I usually don't write reviews but this experience was so terrible I had to share. Let's begin with the hostess. As soon as we got there I confirmed we had a reservation to which she replied "You know you're sitting outside right?". Red Flag #1. I told her we had specifically made reservations indoors because my 74 year old grandmother cannot stand the heat to which she replied *blank stare*. Quite frankly, I've seen a better personality on a comatose patient. The decor and our waitress were nice so at least they have that going for them. When we asked for tap water (which they charge $1 per person) they bring it at room temperature. Red Flag #2. And don't you dare think you're getting any ice. We finally placed our order. When we got our food, I realized I had placed my order wrong. I usually order my burger plain, don't like any cheese, lettuce, tomato, etc. Since I had made the mistake I asked if I could get it replaced and I would pay for the cost. They refused. Red Flag #3. When I kept asking why they said it was the "chef's preference and there were no substitutions". I reminded them that I wasn't asking for a substitution, but an omission. They can put the condiments on the side if that makes them feel better. The first "manager" that came to our table was looking at us like we were crazy, as though they have never heard of a plain burger. Somebody needs a hospitality refresher. Their only solution was for me to pick something else from their limited menu. You would think that they were a Michelin starred restaurant or something. We walked out without eating a bite. This place would rather lose a table of 5 than compromise on a burger! Good luck staying open. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. You're better off going to Bue Collar.

Great ambience, friendly, attentive staff, new twists to old breakfast staples and new brunch foods...this sums up my wonderful experience at the Vagabond! You must try the Chinese Chicken Salad, the Soft Scrambled Eggs and the Japanese Milk Bread! The salad bursts with flavors, there is sweet, tangy, spicy, tart...yumminess galore! Just make this your next brunch spot...you'll see what I am saying!

Unique and Delicious are the words I would use to describe Vagabond. From the décor and vibe to the food. There are many places that have great food, but there are certain places which have great food with a different twist. All of the dishes we chose had a perfect balance of flavors. One of the dishes that exemplifies the perfect use of sweet and sour. Usually I stay away from these dishes because they tend to be heavily battered and doused with overly sweet sauce. Not here, the Sweet and Sour Shrimp are lightly battered and the sweet and sour enhances and does not mask the flavor and freshness of the shrimp. This is definitely the dish to order. The other dish was the Ocean Trout Tartare another dish which was perfectly balanced with just enough citrus. The main dish was the New York Strip which was prepared with very unique flavors and was tender and perfectly cooked. Lastly the dish that embodies Vagabonds uniqueness is the Pistachio Cake. Once the dish arrives it looks more like a salad and has no resemblance of cake, but once you taste the dish it is unlike anything you have tasted before. The pistachio cake and the different textures and taste of fennel made for a unique experience. I am looking forward to coming back and tasting the other dishes.

WARNING: this is not a restaurant for non-adventurous diners. I needed to Google several of the ingredients on this menu. After reading other reviews for Vagabond, I was pleasantly surprised by the attentive service, yummy cocktails, and creative dishes we enjoyed here! As far as price goes - either be prepared to splurge or to go home hungry. Here's what we loved: Gnocchi Stracciatella Pig head - this wasn't as scary as it sounds. Looks like a small filet and tastes like it belongs in a taco. Whole Snapper Grilled Octopus Chocolate Tart - my favorite because I could subsist on sweets alone. And what we should have skipped: Eggplant - the skin was really really really hard on these! Chapulines - I didn't try this one, but my dining companions complained that the crickets were too small...go figure. As for the cocktails, I preferred the ones served at the outside bar which also has a cool ambiance and DJ.

Very hip spot! Love the decor and the staff was very friendly. Interesting menu...started with tilefish tartar. It was small but full of flavor. R had the greens salad..good size portion and the dressing was good however a bit heavy. Had the wahoo entree... Perfectly cooked! R had the burger...his fries were delish! Cool crowd...will likely return FYI valet only $7

Adventurous and fun menu. Nice tapas style plates and some larger dishes too. Went with 4 friends and ordered a ton to really get a feel. Chef is Asian and Mexican and it shows in his flavorful dishes. Service was good and we enjoyed their cocktail menu. Started off in the back poolside for a night cap then inside for our culinary adventure. Miami lacks new fun concepts but not here! Fois gras, soft shell crab and whole friend fish were all stand outs. I'm ready to go back

Dear Vagabond owner/staff, Your place is beautiful. It was thrilling to walk in to your cool and exciting restaurant. I've been driving by the once dilapidated motel my entire life and was so happy that someone with a vision finally brought it back to its full glory. I am writing this as a warning because it happens over and over again in Miami. Promising new restaurants are hyped up and then discarded. I'm afraid that's what might happen to this awesome project if you don't pay attention. The space is gorgeous- it was obviously designed cleverly on a limited budget, but I was deflated to find out that the same went for the food. The menu was interesting and looked promising, but it was all smoke and mirrors. We shared five different dishes and all I can say was that they were underwhelming. Interestingly described on the menu, but the quality of the preparation was completely mediocre. The fried shrimp were soggy, the butterbeans were overwhelmed with sauce, the octopus was a tiny piece of a tentacle. I left with a heavy stomach ache instead of a satisfied feeling. Plus it was really expensive. I'm not trying to criticize or nit pick. It would be great for this place to survive and thrive. It would be greater if I had the desire to return. I'd go for a drink but that's about it. I strongly suggest that you review the quality of your dishes and step up the game. This plan would've worked a few years ago when there were no other options in that area. There are lots of really amazing restaurants close by that put love and soul into their food without needing gimmicks that I would rather go to any day.

Really neat venue and vibe... but the food was just average. The prices were pretty high considering I could have made a grilled cheese at home that tasted better than the 3 entrees I ordered... to add insult to injury, the portions of mediocre food were impossibly small. Seriously, how does 4 whole gnocchi's count as an entree? My friend and I had to swing by McD's because we were still pretty hungry (and now broke!) after dinner. Cocktails were good though... At least the Bar Manager knows what he's doing!

Looking for a cougar to sweep you off your feet? This is the place to go. The portions are disgustingly small considering the price. I got the sweet and sour shrimp which, by the way, comes with 6 small pieces of shrimp. The eggplant and gnocchi were tasty, but shockingly small too. They try to pull off the small plate/tapas thing, but I left feeling ripped off and hungry. Great happy hour place for the older crowd. Avoid it if you're looking for a satisfying meal.

Sat at the bar and had two delicious dishes. Mango salad with fresh milk? was well seasoned with spices that paired well with the mango sweetness. The pig head was served with avocado hummus and a Tomatillo salsa. Both sauces complimented the preparation. Service was very attentive. And willing to discuss the menu in depth. Ambiance was engaging and transported me outside of my day to day.

We came here on Mother's Day, the three of us, with a reservation. My hubby and I wanted it to be a special treat for the momma in our lives and we decided to give this place a try after reading so many great reviews! Again, we are very excited to welcome this place to our neighborhood. It is really something to see such strides of improvement in the Upper East Side. DRINKS: South Beach price tags and nothing that really took us by surprise. My hubby had the Hefeweizen beer from the local brewery and I decided to go with a mezcal old-fashioned. Everything was delicious, but not much to talk about. AMBIANCE: I loved the decor and gallery take on the style of the restaurant. The dropped bar located in the center was really different and had a nice modern mixed with antique deco feel. We were given a table with an aqua couch and what a cool touch to the seating arrangements! The restaurant is dimly lit and the kitchen is exposed so there was the choice of "chef dining" or similar to a sushi place, where you can interact with the restaurant staff and chef which makes for a unique dining experience, should you choose. FOOD: Down to the nitty gritty. We ordered three plates: Peanuts and Chapulines to start. This was a very adventurous dish for us, but we didn't realize what we were actually eating until about halfway through when I decided to Google "Chapulines" and we were left feeling silly eating grasshoppers at a fine dining establishment. The dish itself was tasty, crunchy, and the Szechuan flavor was delicious. We weren't disappointed, but were rather shocked at what we had just eaten mindlessly. Next, we ordered the Ricotta Gnocchi, which was actually our favorite item. The gnocchi was unlike any gnocchi I've ever had: fluffy, cheesy, and light. The pesto sauce paired with it was spectacular and I wish we had ordered two of these for the table because there wasn't quite enough for the three of us (two of us are Italians). To finish off the meal, we ended with the Bone-in Short Rib. Boy, we were in for a treat. The meat was extraordinarily tender and flavorful. Again, on the small side so we finished wanting more! Overall, this place is very eclectic and the food is good. For the quality, I guess we shouldn't have been surprised with the small portions and high prices. I hope to return again, on someone else's tab. Cheers!

The Mimo neighborhood must be so excited to have the Vagabond. I tried out the pool party on a Sunday which had a real cool vibe. They had a bbq and were grilling by the pool area. The bbq was so delicious, I will come back just for that. i came back Saturday and I brought 2 of my girl friends. We had cocktails out by the pool to start then we worked our way into the dinning room. We sat and ate at the bar. Jandre who was our bartender took very good care of us! We sample a variety of cocktails and dishes. We definitely left satisfied. We are actually coming back to celebrate our annual ladies pool party.. Cant wait!!

We got there at 7:15 with no reservation and the place was totally empty. The hostess sat us by the window in the direct sunlight. My wife asked to be moved to a more comfortable table in the shade as she is pregnant. The hostess tells us we can sit you in a bigger table but you need to be done by 8:00. The hostess was very rude and unfriendly almost snobby. After looking at the exaggerated menu and settling in we both felt very uncomfortable. The hostess really set the tone for a bad experience. Aside from the 3 flies that were bussing around by the kitchen the place remained empty. The waiters were very nice and tried their best to be accommodating. I felt like if the owners woke up and fired both hostesses the rest of the staff would go outside and throw a parade to celebrate. We just decided to leave.

Awesome restaurant one of my favorites in Miami! I love that they change their menu according to what's in season and buy local produce. I started with a lychee salad (lychee anything is amazing especially when they're in season!) and then had the gnocchi OMG so good.. Everything is small tapas style plates and great for sharing. Would definitely recommend! And don't forget to ask about the pistachio cake, never had anything quite like that before..5 stars, a must try!

I'm as indecisive as they come, and my server did not make it any easier when she sold 30 items on the menu, hard. I did not love everything, like she told me I would. And portions were disappointingly small, even for tapas. The sweet and sour shrimp and carrots are must tries, though. We couldn't stay for dessert when she told us they were "deconstructed." We were scared of getting crumbs so we ran off to MC kitchen to finish off. Ambiance is cute but awkward layout. I would have preferred the pool to be on the same plane as the rest of the restaurant so we don't look out to a wall. The outdoor space could use more foliage.

I came to this place because of a friend who knew it so I really had no idea about the food or anything. The restaurant was nice, nicely decorated and relaxed. Its very modern and very retro at the same time so it has a nice ambiance. We went first to the bar, we had a few cocktails, the bartender was great and gave us many options within every cocktail. I had an Old Fashion followed by several Dirty Martinis (Don Draper should had been really proud) As for the Menu, fusion food and very original ingredients. The thing here is to order many dishes as they are to share, so you get to try a little of everything. We had a Cauliflower that came in goats milk and trouts roe, its the first time I ask for cauliflower in a restaurant, it seemed good in the menu, and it tasted really good too. Also had the Cobia tartare (good), Beef tartare (very good) (I like tartare you can see that) , Octopus (really good), Sweetbread (OK) , Quail (OK) and nothing else... we were full after that, you can guess. The thing is, even though I liked the place I don't feel like going back to it, and I have no idea why, is not your everyday food and the menu is very limited, so with one or two visits you get to try almost all of it. It is a nice place to go once or twice.

A sleek, tasteful setting and delicious -- possibly even five-star -- food marred by sophomoric service and occasionally tacky dining experience. Starting with the good: the chef's time at Pujol really shines through in the inventive, Mexican-influenced cuisine. The peanuts and chapulines were an addictive accompaniment to the tasty cocktails we ordered. Among the small (and they are *small*) plates, stracciatella was a standout, both for its creamy richness and the unique depth that the leek oil contributed. The pan-seared beef heart was delicate but also hearty, with distinctive Asian flavors. Unfortunately, the dining experience was not so much bumpy -- as you might expect from a new restaurant -- as not thought through. Service vacillated between overly familiar and cold/absent. In an area with restaurants that stand out for refined-but-approachable atmosphere, there was a lot of managerial rushing about and schmoozing that created a "nouveau riche", almost transient vibe. A vibe that was reinforced in the details -- e.g. $5 for valet at lunch but $7 for the same valet at dinner, $2 per person for a glass of water. When you're already paying $14 for a plate of 5 (delicious) shrimp, you expect better from the rest of the experience. Vagabond has great food and a ton of potential. But it needs to decide who it's trying to cater to and deliver an experience worthy of its stunning setting.

They say don't judge a book by its cover...but in this case I say, why the hell not? I knew from the retro chic exterior of Vagabond that I was in for a treat. We kicked off the evening with some cocktails at their charming poolside bar. I ordered an old fashioned and it was FUERTE indeed (not that I'm complaining). Upon entering the restaurant, I was instantly smitten by the ambiance. It's the type of place you could feel right at home wearing a fancy cocktail dress or jeans and converse...and believe me, you will see all sorts of interesting styles at this spot. Let's talk about the appetizers: Zuchinni salad- the name just does not do it justice. MUST-try. Stracciatella - always a win Roasted baby carrots - these aint your average carrots. Get them. Trust me. Other highlights included jerk chicken wings, crispy fingerling potato, short ribs, whole steamed fish...oh, you think we over-ordered, do you? I'M. NOT. DONE. Dessert time! All of the desserts were inventive and scrumptious. Not your run of the mill chocolate cake or creme brulee (as if i have issues with either one). We washed down our meal with some pistachio cake, chocolate tart with seasalt and orange, strawberry granita and key lime pie. I think it's safe to say that was the cherry on top of a fabulous dinner.

Confusing menu, waitress said "small portions made to be shared" I guess by ants! Tiny tiny portions, nothing spectacular, ridiculously expensive. $7.00 parking a total joke! Hoping it would be like "Blue Collar" across the street, but not even close! If you want to go and hang out with the cool crowd, you will love it, going there to eat, FORGET IT!

Ive been to the pool bar only twice. I like the fact that the cocktail menu was different each time. However, each time, cocktails were a disappointment. They tasted watered down, artificial and not sweet enough, or whatever. Stick to ordering beer or wine. The place is very enjoyable. Its one of my favorite places to hang out. We tried the restaurant. We ordered the Stracciatella which was a complete cero for the price. There are restaurants that offer complimentary bread and butter that is way better than this. The gnocchi were ok but a very tiny portion. The 5 jerk wings were too heavy on the allspice or nutmeg or whatever. Not pleasant at all. We ordered a skirt steak medium well and it arrived pink/red inside, and smelled and tasted like raw meat. It lacked a wow factor for the price. The sweet potato puree it came with, was way better than the meat, but we didn't have a chance to enjoy it all because the waiter was in a hurry and removed our plate as soon as we finished the meat. The skirt steak portion was a decent size, but still over priced. If you are looking for an over priced nice, loud, ritzy, artsy fartsy place to see and be seen, then this is your kind of place. I will never go back to that restaurant. I will not recommend it either. Miami has way better options and for a lot less money, but Im feeling generous today, so thats why i gave it 2 stars.

I went last night for the first time and definitely my last time I will ever go. The drinks are good but the food and service was horrible. I saw the prices on the menu and thought I would be getting a good portion of food. I was wrong, my girlfriend got the Sweet and Sour shrimp. Only 4 small shrimps were on the plate. They had no flavor and nothing wow about them. I had the beef heart and sweet bread. The heart was chewy and no seasoning. I love beef heart and this plate did nothing for me. The sweetbreads took a good 30 to 45 minutes to arrive to the table and I had to remind the server that I had ordered them. I left the restaurant starving and for what I paid, I could've gone any where else and had a way better experience. Don't waste your time going here.

I'm not able to give advice on food for this place. However, i can say a lot about the service, particularily the hostest, her attitude was beyond rude. After explaining that kitchen was closing in 15 min and telling us our only optión was the bar, she reminds us, after 2 minutes of evaluating that option, that now, we have only 10 minutes...terrible. My advice to the manager/owner of the place is that beauty is not the only thing to look for in a customer service representative.

    (1)
  • Bill A.

In one word: pretentious . I was stuck eating a cheeseburger because that was the only thing edible for me. On top of that, they refused to leave the bun off. If you enjoy beef heart, sweetbreads, diaphragm, rabbit legs, grasshoppers, duck liver, anchovies, pigs head, octopus, etc., this is the place for you. If you are "uncultured" like me then avoid at all costs.

Went to The Vagabond for a 50's themed birthday party. Unfortunately, I got the dates mixed up and my husband and I found ourselves with nothing else to do. The ambiance at the pool and the pool bar was so romantic. We decided to try the restaurant. Sitting outside on a Miami summer's night is not always enjoyable, but Vagabond had fans set up with just the right amount of breeze. I quickly read some reviews and knew the restaurant served unusual food. I don't eat large portions so we decided to share plates. Our waitress knew all about the menu and the ingredients and her enthusiasm was contagious. We started with Cobia Tartare ($14) - a small but tasty appetizer of Cobia, yuzu (a Japanese Citrus fruit), avocado and quinoa, deliciously prepared. Cobia was fresh and chilled and the Yuzu added a surprise of sweetness not usually found in tartare. Definitely something I would have again. Our second dish was Lychee & citrus salad ($8) - sweet and acidic at the same time with a slight crunch and creamy goat cheese. Who knew these flavors would go so well together? Our 3rd dish was the Ricotta gnocchi ($13) with kale butter, breadcrumbs and savoy cabbage. Incredibly delicious. Our regrets were the small portions. However, these were appetizers (meant for 1). We toyed with ordering a 4th plate but then our waitress told us about the desserts. (We should have ordered another plate and stuck with 1 dessert - but only from a calorie point of view). Really hard to choose between 5 desserts. The cappuccino was a generous cup. We chose the Key lime & sorrel curd with crumbled shortbread and coconut sorbet. A party in my mouth. Absolutely loved this. For the 2nd dessert we ordered Pineapple upside down cake - but there was definitely a mistake in the kitchen. We think we had Black sesame bavarois with passion fruit and yuzu. OMG - so happy for that mistake. Had no clue what it was, but all I know is that I loved it. My one flaw was that our dessert should have been compt - only because it wasn't what we ordered. It wasn't and it was also less expensive than what we originally ordered, so we had to have that corrected on the bill - a perfect time for them to offer a n/c for their mistake. Needless to say, I am so looking forward to going back this weekend for the party. And did I mention there was a DJ at the pool playing some great music throughout the evening. Loud enough to enjoy but not to drown out intimate conversation. Can't wait for Friday.

You have to give it up to the guys at Vagabond - putting in the work to develop a great new restaurant concept in a burgeoning new neighborhood in Miami. I went there on a date with my girlfriend and we were surprised to learn that it was their first Saturday night. Staff was very attentive and helpful with the menu, which can be difficult to navigate as it is all meant to be shared. That said, we were more than satisfied with our meals. As for food, I'd recommend the Hamachi Tartare, the Jerk Chicken Wings (they were great, and I'm originally from Buffalo), and the Sweet and Sour Sun Shrimp were delicious. The cocktails were a great list of old school drinks, from their take on the Clover Club to a more peculiar Old Fashioned. This was my seventh visit to Miami and by far the best meal that I have had throughout all of my trips. Definitely will visit again.

Fine Dining Comes to the Boulevard: The new, much-awaited Vagabond Restaurant is a major departure for the Upper East Side, a serious spot for a serious meal, a step or two above the nearby competition. And so is the price point. Every dish we had was tasty, original, a bit of a surprise. The salads had amazing dressings (endive $13, heirloom tomato $14). We enjoyed the crispy pig head ($12), sweet and sour sun shrimp ($14), and the sweetbread milanesa ($23). Since we had read in earlier Yelp reviews complaints of tiny servings, we consulted with the waitress about how much would make a meal, and because of her we ordered a second salad -- as well as two desserts, when we usually split one. The key lime pie was a great variation of an old theme. I got a vodka martini on the rocks for $11 (without the waitress demanding I pick a brand name) though I found it odd when she asked if I wanted it with vermouth. (A martini without vermouth?) The drinks were a bit slow getting to our table, too, arriving after the salad did. Now, to other minor gripes: The great Chef Allen arranged for breadsticks to be brought to the table soon after the diner sat down. Why starve waiting for food in a fine restaurant? Here, we could have used something quickly, and also to soak up the wonderful sauces left on our plates. The server said later bread is available -- as a separate starter. We were asked we wanted still or sparkling water when we sat down -- we went for the still (why pay for water?) only to find out that each of us was charged $2 for the water, still or sparkling. Felt like a little gouging. Finally: There's a guy waiting to help you in the men's room. I don't need help, and I find it always a bit off-putting. Also: Rather than go with valet parking ($7) we parked at a meter on a side street. I'm being picky about this place, because it's got so much good going for it that it's worth mentioning where it could improve. Service was excellent. This place is already so popular that it was booked solid for Valentine's Day several days in advance, so we did our V meal the night before. Oh -- as I finish this review, my dining companion informs me she said that she needed a bowl of cereal before she went to bed because she was still hungry. She suggested that some of the dishes could have used rice or potatoes. Or maybe you need to order more. Final tab was $160 with taxes, before tip.

I was excited about the Vagabond because of it's part in the MiMo District rebirth. I love the aesthetic with its well done '50s/Atomic Era redo. Retro can easily come off as tacky/kitschy, but these folks did a great job. Oh, yeah - the food. That was OK. We had several dishes. No mind blowers, but no major disappointments.

Delicious. Happy is next to home. Finally my MiMo area is becoming a bit urban! Good service and excellent jazz band playing last night. The menu isn't short so definitely coming back to try the rest. The only bad surprise was the pistachio cake. That although I didn't mind it looking like moss. It lack flavor.

Really had a good experience here. These guys are young and ambitious, great wine selection and suggestion - which is rare down here. Good was fantastic - top notch presentation, flavor/quality & not so expensive. A must try, and I will certainly be back. Sounds like they'll be expanding the menus and hours soon too! Booya

OK one star for the guy bartenders who look straight at make customers and ignore them. Thank god there's a cool lady also working, but she's super busy tending all the guys the pretty boy ignores. I how they don't split tips. The lady gets five stars but the place only one cause of how pretentious the male bartenders are. South beach 90s posers ugh

Outstanding service and retention to detail in mid century decor. Food was very good. Octopus and roasted fish were great. Way above par wine list. Great general vibe. Reminds me of some of the better places in Palm Springs, CA.

Yet another mediocre trendy restaurant. It must be a Miami curse. The Vagabond like many other restaurants in the city have menus that SEEM promising, but like many others it lacks execution. Foie with inconsistent textures. Overwhelming sesame in a salad. Under seasoned rabbit. These are just a few of the amateur mistakes that go unnoticed by the average patron. Even something as small as the ice in my cocktail, the gas station bag variety(hollowed cylinders and all), just infuriated me. This menu was written with a vision and then handed to an untrained staff. It's honestly unfortunate.

Stunning renovation with tons of sex appeal around the property. The poolside bar is great and a wonderful spot to have drinks with friends, as is the bar inside. Staff is more than willing and able to provide good service, however...with a kitchen sending out sub par food, I doubt this place will last. There wasn't a single dish I could say was edible. The peanuts and grasshoppers was so bad they should be paying me to haul it away. Salty, vinegary mass of yuck (and I love grasshoppers!). Each dish was explained in great detail on the menu and elicited a healthy response from my stomach. The execution of the dishes, along with plenty of ingredients not stated on the menu made this an almost deadly meal time for me. If you are highly allergic to anything make sure you tell your waiter in advance. The octopus was moist and tender and so salty it was worthy of spitting out. The fingerling potatoes (like, who on earth can kill this item) was served on a goopy mess of salty cheese sauce that was curdled. The cauliflower had white strawberries hidden in the mix that were just ridiculously off as an addition. The dishes are pretentious and complicated where no complication is needed. Yikes! Someone needs to reboot this kitchen and save the ship! It's sinking fast. After discussing our sad first go-round with other friends, they either said the same or spoke to others who had the same experience. And, for god sake...turn the music down. It's a restaurant not a club...or did I get that wrong too?

After having dinner here several times now I need to update my review! With pictures this time! Per usual I love the ambiance. Brittany was our fabulous waiter and now I will probably always ask for her! My only complaint is when they want to take away the empty plates when I'm still trying to lick all remaining remnants. It's that good! We split a bottle of Blanc de Blanc and ordered up a number of their delicious classics! The sun shrimp, stracciatella, and gnocchi are always a must!!! Pistachio cake for dessert and it's a done deal. The flavors are out of this world :)

Unfortunately this will turn out to be just another trend friendly Miami restaurant, where the substance is more in the fashion than in the food , or specially customer service . THIS HOT SPOT will last what it will , until the fashionistas followers are lured into a different reality show atmosphere . For those of us that enjoy a true culinary experience , there are other places , you know wich . One is not as trendi , but much better and just down the road , try it .

I feel compelled to add my two cents after reading some recent, less-than-favorable, reviews. With all due respect to those individuals, I could not disagree with you more. I came here with a group of 15 people for a celebratory dinner, about a month ago, and had an INCREDIBLE experience. Everything, from the layout of the restaurant to the food, was fantastic. The overall vibe is upscale/trendy and it was a young, attractive crowd. Space: It's a very trendy, intelligently-decorated, and immaculate space. The open-kitchen concept is one that I really liked, as well. Appetizers: Since we had a large group, the general manager was kind enough to sit down with us and give us some of his recommendations, all of which were delicious. Some of my favorites were: 1. Roasted baby carrots 2. Jerk chicken wings 3. Crispy fingerling potatoes Entrees: Again, the general manager provided some guidance and suggested we order the following: 1. Iberico skirt steak 2. 16 oz. bone-in short rib 3. Heritage breed pork collar Like the appetizers, our main courses were outstanding. The chef here is the real deal. I live in Manhattan and have been to some great spots; the food quality at Vagabond is on par with any of the top places I've been to in NYC. Dessert: We all shared every item on the dessert list, but my favorite was probably the pistachio cake. Phenomenal. If I lived in Miami, I would definitely be a regular here. The food is legit, trust me. The entire staff was courteous and incredibly helpful. The chef actually came over and spoke with us for a few minutes while we were having dessert. I give the Vagabond Restaurant and Bar my highest recommendation.

Had an Saturday night 8:00 reservation for 4ppl. A bunch of tables seemed to get sat right before us, and no 4 tops were close to leaving. There were also two big tables 10-12 ppl set up, so clearly they were overbooked. Had drinks at the bar (fun cocktail menu. The Guru is a must try for Bourbon drinkers) until around 8:30 until finally, after some mild complaining, we ended up getting the best table in the house...a 6 top in the back corner by the kitchen. I am not taking any stars off for the wait because waits are just part of life on weekends in South Florida at trendy spots sometimes. Other than the wait, the service was great. Our server was friendly, offered suggestions, and was very attentive. We ended up ordering: - Beet Salad (Might have been my favorite dish. Sauces were fantastic) - Straciatella - Crispy Pigs Head (looked and tasted like corned beef) - Gnocchi (Good, but lacked some flavor. Wouldn't rush to order next time) - Octopus - Lamb - Sweetbreads - Key Lime Dessert/Chocolate Dessert (Key Lime definitely better than the chocolate) Overall, I really appreciated the chances the kitchen takes w/ the menu. Could the portion sizes be bigger? Sure, but I have had worse value around town.

3.5 stars. I've been now for dinner and for brunch. Both times, the food was fantastic. Most recently, I did the pre-fixe brunch. For only $25, it included soft scrambled eggs, yogurt and granola, a couscous salad with yogurt and grilled cauliflower and broccoli, home fried potatoes, and pastries. If you bump up to $40, you can get more proteins. We went for a dinner a couple of months ago, so I don't remember everything, but do remember the cobia tartare and rabbit leg were particularly good. I do remember leaving a bit hungry, and in search of froyo. Bottom line: The food is great, but be prepared for small portions. The service is terrible (like, more terrible than most Miami places). The attitude comes off that they're doing you a favor to allow you into their restaurant. Often, the wait staff's suggestions are correct (like, you should order things to share), but the way it is conveyed makes you feel like an idiot for thinking that maybe you could order one item just for yourself (especially when there are menu items like a cheeseburger or a skirt steak). Maybe the menu needs to be re-written to make the "sharing" concept more clear. The wait staff practically has to apologize for the menu layout and explain that, well, the menu says this, but actually when we say "skirt steak," we mean that it's going to be something completely dissected and everyone will get one bite; or when we say "gnocchi," it's going to be about the size you would expect a gnocchi appetizer to be, not a gnocchi main dish. I will probably eat there again, but I'm not clamoring to set a date. They could really take a lesson from Blue Collar, just down the street, on friendly service and a more laid back attitude. If Blue Collar had a space as large as Vagabond, it would be packed all the time (unlike Vagabond).

It's not often I go to a restaurant and am wowed by the unique flavor combinations, eclectic choice of ingredients and a young Chef with an imaginative palate and a skilled line! So impressed not just by the food, but the art, ambience and enthusiastic staff.

I was really looking forward to my meal there. I really was... Unfortunately my experience was only during lunch hour, not dinner time. I went there and their lunch menu is extremely limited. I asked the waitress if I could order something from the dinner menu but she explained that only the lunch menu was available. Fine, I ordered the salad with anchovy dressing. Nowhere in the menu did it say it had onions. As soon as I received the salad it was basically all raw onions. The waitress told me that "maybe" the kitchen could accommodate me but that they usually don't accept substitutions. Excuse me? I just told her it was ok and went elsewhere. I understand had the menu disclosed that the salad had onions given the substantial amount it had but for some reason it's ok to omit this piece but it's not ok to ask for substitutions. I am huge foodie and I'm an adventurer. however eating at this was such an inconvenience that I'd rather eat at a millions places in Miami before going back there. Such an overrated joke!

So I was confused. Until our server lead me in the right direction. Angela was fantastic the baby carrots were fantastic, iberico ham and sweet bread mileanesa were great. The zucchini salad was ok and not to my liking, Skirt steak was over cooked. So my end result is, our sever was fantastic seeing she recommended three out of the five things I tried. And she knew what was up. Hard here in Miami to get people who actually know what's up. Thank u Angela see you again soon.

So disappointed.. Actually very disappointed.. We got there at 2:20pm for Sunday brunch and the first thing we are being told is.. :"we are done sitting for the day.. " not even a good afternoon first... You don't want my business, you won't have it ever again.... At least they should post everywhere that Brunch is until 2:20 not 3pm.

This place was incredible!!! My husband and I visited their lounge bar and their pool bar before having dinner with friends and the food was amazing. The environment was super chic, and the staff was the best of the best.

So delicious, wow. Chef is a very nice guy, so talented. Food was amazing! I had the Buttermilk Quail as main course but we pretty much had every single appetizer. Who knew cauliflower could taste so good? The bar by the pool is very nice too...Vodka Collins = Bubble GUM HEAVEN. They do have different drinks than inside.

This is my first review in quite some while because I had to say that I cannot wait to go back. The service was superb. The food was delicious, fun, and was so different/interesting it served as a topic of conversation for most of the dinner. The vibe was incredible but not as good as the cocktail list (make sure you try East of the Tracks). Toward the end of the meal the manager came over to our table to greet us and was wonderful to speak to. You could really tell he cared that we were enjoying ourselves. Whether it was something crazy like the crickets (They were so good) or the something classic like the burger it was all a grand-slam. 10/10. Would bang.

Once in awhile we are all lucky enough to have a memorable meal, well I had two in a row at the Vagabond. I was in Miami visiting an old friend and he took us out to Vagabond on Friday night. By the end of the meal, I demanded we go back on Saturday night and the meal/ambiance/management and staff all DELIVERED both times. I ordered almost everything on the menu both nights (was with a big party) and everything was great. A few highlights: -The blond bartender (at the inside bar) let me order off-menu drinks and made me two of the best cocktails I've ever had -Heirloom tomato salad - light, crisp and delicious. Amazing flavors and the freshest of ingredients. -Jerk Chicken Wings - They should be called crack chicken wings because #chefalex makes a Sunday football favorite into a gourmet delight. I could eat 50 of them. -Stracciatella - just order it. Best cheese dish I have ever had and what makes it so amazing is how simple it is: Fresh cheese, some type of light oil, peas and perfectly grilled bread -Short Rib - Some of the most tender and flavorful meat I have ever tried. Melt in your mouth ridiculousness -Dessert - between both nights, I tried all desserts and while they were all great, the pistachio cake almost brought me to tears. It looks like a small garden, but tastes like the best blend of sweetness and pistachio you've ever had. The texture is also incredibly unique. I am honestly not even a big pistachio person, but this is the best dessert I have ever tried in my life. Mix great food, a very hip atmosphere and happening pool bar scene, and you've got your whole night planned out at the Vagabond. Mark my words people, this place is about to blow up. To Chef Alex and all the crew, I salute you.

I was so enticed to celebrate with a group of friends trying out this new restaurant. At the last minute we added three more people and where told we had to wait another 30 to 45 minutes. We all headed to the bar and two hours later still no table. After we tried to leave a table became available. That is where our nightmare began. 20 minutes after ordering our food we where told several dishes were not available. Later the dishes started coming out with no rhyme or pattern with the staff not knowing which was which. The servings in most dishes were quite offensive for the price. After asking for the manager she proceeded to explain that our three extra guest threw the restaurant out of whack, their dishes where meant to be shared( I almost fell of my chair) I have so much more to share but the overall experience was horrible to say the least with the management being totally clueless.

the portion sizes are so small as to be insulting. A Tile fish entree was literally spoon size shocking all at our table. When I complained and requested bread to help compensate for lack of food, I was told there would be a $4 charge. The Room is beautiful, but that's not enough to satisfy! Disappointed and will not return.

I work in the Miami restaurant industry and had heard rave reviews from colleagues about this restaurant. I was excited to try it and came here for brunch with a party of four and we ordered the Pork tonkatsu sandwich, Chinese chicken salad, Yeasted waffles, Soft scrambled eggs, and the Grain salad. Initial impression was good- the restaurant was empty but the vibe was really cool and the bar was beautiful. The pork sandwich was inedible, one of the guys ordered this and he will usually eat anything. It came served on lame pieces of white bread and had no seasoning. He ate about 3 bites and left the rest untouched. The waitress never inquired as to whether something was wrong with the dish or if he wanted anything else. The yeasted waffles sounded delicious but were flat and flavorless. The plantain butter was interesting but not enough so to save the dish. It was a small waffle and even between the 4 of us, nobody wanted to finish them. The Chinese chicken salad was straight out of the Cheesecake Factory, only smaller and more expensive. A few pieces of chicken, lettuce, citrus segments- tired with nothing special. I get the whole throwback vibe of the restaurant and the inclusion of this "old school" salad, but it was so early 90s and totally unoriginal. I was told the Grain Salad had quinoa and was "light and delicious"- but I received a large bowl of Israeli cous cous with a few hidden sprigs of cauliflower and creamy dressing. Sent it back and ordered the eggs. The saving grace were the eggs- creamy, yellow and cooked beautifully. The eggs were truly a special dish but not enough to merit a repeat visit. The fries were good but the waitress told us it was a huge side of fries and was MAYBE enough for 2 people. Won't be going back.

There must be two of these restaurants. The one I went to is beautiful But the food was horrible Gnocchi was overcooked. The rabbit. Undercooked and hard. The potatoes and wings over salted I guess that the chef was overwhelmed and for sure the staff was What a disappointment. Will they fixed it. They need to tone the spices down and pay attention. Chef pedigree doesn't guarantee. Good execution My advise. Skip

My fiancé and I went to the Vagabond on a Saturday night and the atmosphere was great. We were greeted by two hosts who were both extremely friendly and helpful guiding us to our table. We had a table right by the kitchen so we got to see all the action! We started with some cocktails that were fresh and creative. For the food, we started with straciatella which was amazing! Followed by the cobia tartar, the sweet and sour shrimp and Iberico skirt steak (must have). Everything was full of so much flavor and absolutely delicious! Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and steered us in ordering the dishes that fit our taste. Chef Alex even came over to talk to us. After dinner, we went out to the pool to listen to the live music which had an awesome vibe! Over all, the experience was delightful and we will 100% be going back

This Review is for 4 stars and a half. I love what they have done to this old motel. They have respected the 50's vibe and added some current details. It is so nice to see the rebirth of places that looked like they have seen better times. The place is pristine, besides being very attractive. Now on with the food... We tried the octopus (very tasty), and the burgers. Their burger is a take on the in and out burger which unfortunately does not exist in Miami. IT IS AMAZING!! One of the best burgers in town! Yum. The serving of fries was on the small side. I was fine with my portion, but the other 3 guests in my table had to order 3 (THREE) additional orders. It's just a little small portion. I don't eat a lot, but my other 3 companions thought the burger was small too. There is a charge for water. I at first was not impressed, but they bring these lovely bottles of water that appears to be ionized and/or filtered. And you can drink as much as you want. I ended up loving the idea!! I loved the place. I love that this area of town is getting its re-birth, and I will surely come again. :) Oh, parking is only valet from what I could see. Which i kind of don't love, but hey, that's Miami for you. I also found the menu to be confusing.

With the reopening of the venue all I can say is that this place is amazing!! The restaurant is delicious and to later discover that the head chef is the prodigy Alex Chang left me speechless. The cocktails were fantastic and the restaurant is covered in some engaging original artwork that compliments this LA vibe modern eatery. Will I be back? That's a big YES!!

One of the best dining experiences I've had in Miami. The food is deliciously creative, staff professional and very helpful, and the ambiance beautiful. Have been twice, and the second time was every bit as good as the first. Highly recommended for a fun and wonderful food evening.

Vagabond Restaurant is a trendy awesome place that sends you home smiling each time. The owners have done an amazing job restoring this wonderful place while keeping retro and alive. This is a high end gourmet food restaurant, without the uptightness or pretentiousness. Just pure joy in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The food, service, cocktails, art, vibe are just wonderful. You can eat inside, outside, or by the pool. Chef Alex Wang is a master food genius. The mango salad is out of this world, and the black grouper and skirt steak were just amazing. I love their sweetbread milanese, and even their cheeseburger is no regular burger. After 20+ times, there has never been a single plate that we have not liked. All the deserts are just incredible. Pineapple upside down cake, Pistachio cake, Passion fruit sorbet, and the rest. We can never leave without having some drinks at the mini lounge by the bar. Victor delivers some amazing cocktails. Sunday brunch menu is also great, and the Bloody Marys to die for. All servers are super nice, caring and professional. Everyone shows that they truly care for their guests to have a pleasant experience. From their hostesses, servers, busboys, bar personnel and management. Jack, Fernando and Alvaro are great hosts that make you always feel at home. Everything is just perfect. You can have a super romantic night with your couple, or a party one with friends. We will never get bored from returning to this beautiful place.

Really wanted to like this place. Food overall was good but 2/3 of the menu is described by the waitress as small plates to be shared. I am sorry but no small plates are meant to be shared especially for the price. Ambience is nice . Service was ok, but it is really the food that will bring anyone back. And for the price their is a lot better in the neighborhood. Vagabond make your "appetizers" a little bigger and you might have something here.

Great addition to the neighborhood. I had dinner at the newly opened restaurant with a friend. We sat at the bar,...The place was BUSY! The bartender (Nel) was highly-skilled with cocktails and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was delicious. The service was steady. (Britney-sp?) We tried many things: Hamachi Tartare, Heirloom Salad, Gnocchi w Ricotta, Sweetbreads, The Burger, Cobia( -w-some great sauce?), the Buttermilk Fried Quail, and an excellent dessert...Strawberry Granita, over some type of Rice Pudding. It was the perfect complement to the end of the meal. The barstools are not comfortable and the room is very loud. Both can and should be fixed. The price$ are very fair. Can't wait to go again... The Pool Area is great...peep it! (I have since been there six (6) times to dine. Charging for filtered water is LAME and there are a few plating issues. Otherwise, there's a lot of talent in that kitchen.)

First off a beautiful restaurant space and great vibe. Very impressed with the pool bar and service throughout [bar and restaurant]. This being opening week, excitement was in the air, the place was packed. Would I return? Yes, but; -Although the restaurant seemed well staffed all the employees seemed to be running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Must say they were all very nice when they stopped to talk to you. -We had an 8:45 PM reservation and were kept waiting for almost 45 minutes. A complimentary something would have showed good faith as our party just stood there and waited. -After a wonderful outdoor bar experience I attempted to get a drink as we waited for our table. I gave up after almost 10 min of just standing there with the bartender obviously overwhelmed making drinks for the entire restaurant and bar tables. -The restaurant space is incredibly loud. Exciting yes, but still overly loud. -The portions are way too small from appetizers to desserts. Our table of 4 ordered 2 appetizers, 4 entrees and 2 desserts. We easily could've gone out to dinner afterwards. -A pet peeve: The bar which is beautifully located at the center of the restaurant has no way of removing their trash. So at some point the large sized trash can has to be dragged out from behind the bar. This was done during our dinner. Literally a yard size trash can was dragged through the restaurant and out the door. It hit me that I've never seen a restaurant do that before and it did not seem very aesthetic for the atmosphere. I don't think I'd do that at home during a dinner party. Although the above may seem negative we truly enjoyed our evening there and would give it another try. With a few tweaks, bigger portions please, this spot could continue to be the place to be seen on Biscayne Boulevard. Hopefully just a few opening week growing pains.

WOW!!! Amazing ambiance and fantastic service! Even with the great environment nothing can beat the absolutely magnificent food! The wings and the quail dishes are literally to die for!!! I ate there three days ago and I still can't stop thinking and talking about it!!! And the desserts....goodness gracious! Get the pistachio one and the strawberry one AND the key lime pie because you won't be able to pick which is your favorite! So many unique textures and decadent flavors!!! I haven't been this impressed with a restaurant in years! Let's not forget the incredible cocktails! Some of their creations are combinations you would never expect and then they blow your mind! Also just watch your bartender make your drink it is quite the show! Overall if you are in Miami you NEED to stop in and enjoy this gem of a restaurant because it may change your life!!

This review is mostly for the pool bar area, though I have dined at the restaurant as well and will mention that. The pool area is lovely; the drinks are hit or miss, sometimes great, sometimes just ok, but never bad. The four stars are mostly for the ambiance. It's nice to have somewhere to go for a drink/happy hour that's relaxed, clean and unpretentious. Somewhere you don't have to wait 30 minutes for a drink, or hustle your way to the front of the bar. The astroturf grass is a lovely touch, and honestly, who doesn't enjoy a nice, relaxing drink by the pool in a lounge chair?? I have been here for after-work happy hours and felt totally decompressed, and also for a stress-free night out with the girls. My advice for this place - don't try to get too highbrow! Keep it relaxed, keep it easy, that's something special in Miami. As for the restaurant, I dined there with a group and both the food and the service were high quality. The food is served tapas style, very small portions so keep that in mind- and I mean very, very small. The waiter informed us that meals were served "family style," however I would say it's more tapas style. Expect a bite or two of each dish if you're in a party of 3 or more. One bite of a dish is not enough to truly enjoy or appreciate it. I doubt I will be back for the restaurant by my own choice, but I will certainly be returning for the poolside bar. I hope the pool area retains it's relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and remains a Miami landmark.

OK...lets not get the bar and pool area confused with the resturaunt. The pool and outdoor area is very cool. The restaurant on the other hand needs to step up their game with the food. Listen, every place cant be on the higher end scale. These resturaunts kill me trying to be booshie in not so booshie areas. They need to cater to the neighborhood. I just spent 70.00 for 2 glasses of sparking water (no refills) roughly 6 chicken wings, roughly 4 beef tartar little rap thingys and 6 shrimp. Crazy....the food seriously on a scale of 1 to 10 is a 5 at best. Nothing we tried had me wanting to go back as well as my GF. This really sucks because i live in the neighborhood and want a cool place to eat often for a good price as does everyone else. Dont get me wrong, the place is awesome on the inside....they just need to do something else with their food and fast. A simple diner would work better.

Loved this restaurant. Amazing menu with unique offerings. Loved the waxed beans and the pork skirt steak. Service was very good and great ambiance. The only thing we didn't love was the pistachio cake but I can see how it's for a certain palette.

What has been done to this location is absolutely amazing, as it is been beautifully transformed. The restaurant is very inviting and retro. Drinks at the pool after dinner were picturesque under a beautiful starry sky. We had 830 dinner reservations and showed up right on time. The vallet was efficient. We were seated right away by friendly staff, whereby at the table we were greeted by a beverage server who promptly brought water. Our knowledgeable, courteous server showed up next and immediately explained the menu and took our drink orders. -- The menu is just a little bit weird for my taste, including items such as Beefheart and sweetbreads. However some of our party said they were delicious. -- The drink menu is tantalizing, a bit vintage -- when our server presented the menu she prefaced it with by saying that it was family-style. SO DEFINITELY NOT!! the servings were so ridiculously small that it was a farce to recommend family-style dining. For example, the gnocchi had eight, tiny pieces. Each additional course seemed smaller than the last, barely seeming like enough food for a child. Absolutely ridiculous. We ate again after returning home. -- as other posts have noted the dining room was really loud. Overall I would highly recommend this for drinks at the poolside bar. However I would wait a little while longer until the restaurant becomes more established before returning for dinner as they need to work out the kinks. This establishment was highly anticipated and has the potential to fulfill all expectations.

I was underwhelmed. I heard terrific things about Vagabond and the menu looked interesting. We were 3 people and the waitress suggested a few dishes per person as it is tapas style. We ordered 3 vegetables/appetizers and 3 main courses. The food came really quick - within one hour we were done. Not what I would call fine dinning. Also, although the food was good - nothing was great. And it tasted like the food had been made in advance -nothing fresh right out of the kitchen except the fish. The wine did not arrive until we were into our 3rd dish. Something just seemed off. So, in summary, the meal was good - but nothing special.

There couldn't be a better vibe in The Vagabond Restaurant. From the amazing art on the walls, to the traveler-themed ceiling art, to the indoor/outdoor seating and bar. The menu is innovative, themed to global travel. The Vagabond is THE place to see and be seen. Great MIMO and Design District crowd, from artists to models to local VIPs and Miami cognoscenti. So long South Beach, the action has moved off the beach-- it's at The Vagabond!

All in all, the overall experience was good. The vibe is cool...very laid back and local. Bar scene is great. The menu is strange. Upon first glance there was not a single thing I wanted to eat ( pigs head is on the menu!). Once our server, who was lovely, went over the menu with us, I had a better understanding of some of the items and was able to order within my comfort zone. I'm not a very experiential eater. All of the items we ordered,...beet salad, soft shell crab, bone-in short rib, were very good. Great flavor combinations I wasn't sure about but they worked. The portions are TINY...so beware! Definitely not enough to fill up a grown man. We had to order more than usual so as not to leave hungry. The one thing I didn't enjoy was the pistachio cake. Was very gritty and just plain awful. That said, the evening was going very well until the maitre' D came over and asked us to give up the table as soon as we finished our meal. We were flabbergasted! I have lived in Miami my entire life and have eaten at all the best restaurants. No one has EVER asked us to leave. We weren't there for hours either, in fact we had just paid the $300+ check for the 4 of us. He said he had people waiting for our table. Mind you there were other empty tables for 4 at the time and there were people still at their tables from when we arrived. Disgusting and unprofessional in my opinion. And for that reason alone, we won't be returning.

We have been to this restaurant 5 times already since its opening. We live close by and it is great to have another great restaurant in the neighborhood. Food is fresh, creative and delicious. The ambiance is hip and vibrant. Endive salad is amazing, hamburger very tasty, and tomato salad very fresh. Also their chicken wings are worth ordering. We really like having dinner there and then walk by their pool area and have a drink with friends there while the DJ plays great music.

Space is amazing. Loved the vibe. Waitstaff and hostess were very accommodating. We had almost all the menu that was veg. as we do not eat meat. Everything was very good and there was nothing that came out that we did not love. Pricing for food was reasonable, but the drinks at the bar were pricey.

i found the food severely lacking at the vagabond restaurant. i know the chef is considered a rising young talent but most of the dishes are overly complicated and do not taste good. pistachio cake is like eating moss! i will not return to eat, for drinks yes. please fire the chef vagabond!

Great service. Exciting bar tender to watch mix cocktails. Food had nuances of flavor. We had zucchini salad, roasted carrots and Iberia steak. All were excellent. Warning: small proportions so order lots of things to share. The pistachio dessert was like eating a sweet garden. Love this new addition to the blvd.

I decided to give The Vagabond a chance for Valentines dinner and it did not fail me. It was an amazing space. I loved the decor and it feels like you could be there on an intimate date as well as with a group of friends. It's so cool to see them take us back to the period when the Vagabond was hot and new. There was a fixed menus for valentines so I can't say much about their regular menu, but if it is anything like what we had it should be great. It seems a little high for the neighborhood and the drinks are a little pricey but good. The entire meal was prepaired wonderfully and just the right portions. I'm not a fan at all of the so called Tapas Style restaurants or the ones that give you a portion so big you could feed a family of four. Happily this is neither. The service was great and the kitchen was reasonable with the time (given our reservation was for 10:30 on Valentine's im sure they were pretty wiped out by then) however it did take awhile to get drinks. Ahhh the drinks. We decided to not do the wine pairing and opted for drinks. Drink menu was good and we thought we would sample a couple. We were well into our first course before our initial drinks arrived and finished with dinner before our second round. After dinner we decided we would stop by the huge bar they have in the middle and enjoy the ambiance, great music and the small crowd. As we attempted to order from the bartender (who was more importantly addressing his friends, we heard the conversation) who was taking forever, he finally came over to us and instructed us that the bar was closed and we would have to leave. I couldn't believe it. We had just spent a good chunk of coin here for dinner and drinks and now are being told to leave. So we did, with the thought in mind as to how I would be writing this review. All in all, The Vagabond restaraunt is an amazing space (forgot to mention the pool deck, incredible) with a great kitchen and wait staff. They just need to look at their price point and get rid of the bartender.

Ok so the restaurant's vibe is great, very hip but it ends there. I ordered the quail and waffles, I couldn't even eat it. It was a soup of gravy over the waffles, not appetizing to look at and tasted horrible. My better half had the chinese chicken salad, the description is very misleading, said it had almonds (not one was too be found), didn't mention it was was essentially a noodle salad with some lettuce, avocado and sesame oil. The flavors weren't bad, but totally misleading. Would I eat here again probably not.

Boy did I want this place to transform the UES landscape--a true neighborhood eatery with more interest in catering to the neighbors than just being the next place to be seen. And although the space is stunning, they missed the mark on the basics--good quality food. The burrata appetizer claimed "lamb quarter" and after bringing it's absence to the attention of the waiter, we were told it's a flavor in the greens, Huh? And the portions were just crazy small. My quail would have looked more in place on my Christmas tree than a meal plate. Regardless, I'll be back once the crowd tires of it and moves on to the next new thing.

Love the Vagabond Restaurant! The food is incredible (try the Chapulines and the Gnocchi), the throwback ambiance is complemented by the incredible selection of contemporary art and the cocktails are delicious (try the Upper East Side). Can't wait to go back!
