My husband surprised me for Valentine's Day and took me to La Riviera for a romantic dinner since the Sofitel is where we had our wedding reception. The ambiance was romantic, the service was great and the details where not over looked. They had rose petals on the table and the food was fresh and delicious. My husband gave specific instructions on having flowered delivered to our table during dessert so he was very pleased when the night went as planned.

Nestled in the Hotel Sofitel in Miami, this a great place to entertain a client for lunch, it is bright and the service is fantastic. If you are looking for good food served in small portions... this will certainly help you maintain your diet - good blend of flavors and diverse menu that will give anything from French to Mediterranean and a bit of Latin.

Overpriced, dirty with low quality food. I took the degustation menu because it was a selection of their "best of". The foie gras is the most disgusting I've ever had, it's frozen and has patches of fat everywhere. The scallops were rubber-ish, the lamb tasted like wool, and the fondant cake wasn't... Fondant. And to top it all, the place is worn out and not well cleaned...

The decor of this place looks nice and the prices are decent (maybe they are steep, but since I live in SF everything seems reasonable). The service was great and since it's a hotel, no one gives a shit if you are by yourself with a four course meal. That being said, the food was sadly disappointing. The endive salad was like 4 leaves of almost wilted endive with walnuts and some dressing- unfresh ingredients failed that one. The foie gras was decent, but a little fluffier than I like it. The scallops were overly salted and over cooked, the beef was decent. Since this place is classy and all, I really expected better.

Ahh.... the Sofitel. Where everyone can see you from 836 and 57th, as you wave to those who are headed downtown or towards the beach....who needs them? You have me....at least for today. Bands of blue, white, and red proudly decorate the the building in a way that let's you know you've stumbled upon something good. Upon entering, you almost want to take your shoes off since everything is white on white on white. Table linens, curtains, floor, walls, napkins, plates....white. Quiet ambience, good service....perfect for business meetings and lunches where you don't want to be rushed. The few times I've been here, couldn't complain: Mahi Mahi sandwich with basket of fries, sea scallops (dee-lish-usss) atop haricot vert and pearl couscous, grilled salmon, and vegetable panini on ciabatta...oh! and their French onion soup, thumbs up. French pressed Italian coffee...don't leave without it.

Great decor for the restaurant. Great hotel as well with a grand entrance and nice lobby. Service was ok not great. The bread basket was excellent. The food - we got duck and the salmon - was nothing special. Given the high prices and the disappointing food -- we expected it to be out of the park given the prices and the nice hotel -- I cannot give this place more than 3 stars.

Well-hidden French gem in busy corporate boulevard! Thanks to the reviews, I made an appt. with opentable from the yelp listing of La Riviera. Elegant white decor with red couches surrounded the corner entrance of a hotel in which I would have never thought this restaurant resided in. I really enjoyed eating here on the afternoon of New Year's Eve to celebrate my mom's birthday. As others have mentioned before, the staff here is impeccable and on point with their service. The food is delicious and relatively small/medium, so don't come here too hungry, because it might not suffice. I highly recommend what we had: the quesadilla appetizer (fulfilling as an entree), the $27 all in one meal (salad, skirt steak entree, side order and tiny chocolate dessert all in a square plate. Didn't fulfill me) a paella (my mom said it was good, but she would have preferred ordering the different fish the waiter had recommended) and a tuna steak (fulfilling) My mom really enjoyed the $5 french pressed coffee (and she's a picky one with coffee) All in all, if you have the budget, like an executive trying to have lunch with others or a romantic lover looking for a date lunch/dinner, I highly recommend this place. Especially if you are in blue lagoon drive and don't want to deviate. It doesn't get better than this in this location. -Miguel

I swore I was in the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshal, I walk up to the host, alone. Host: Hey, how's it going? Yelp Elite Gold: Hey, I'd like to grab some dinner, please. Host: Okay, great. Is your wife gonna meet you? Yelp Elite Gold: No. Host: Your girlfriend? Yelp Elite Gold: No, just me. Host: [confused] You're just by yourself? Yelp Elite Gold: Yeah. Host: Wow, Okay, so just one. Here's your wine list, your menu, come on. You want, like, a magazine or something? It's gonna be boring if you're just sitting by yourself. Yelp Gold Elite: No, I'll be alright. Thank you. The bread basket is HUGE and has four different styles to chose from. The service was good. They lost a star for not having a pint glass for beer. I think what I got was a 10 oz draft pour. The caesar salad was really good. I didn't think I would like the anchovies, but they added a lot of flavor. The salmon was good, although I was confused why it was served in a bowl.

Nice place to eat! Very clean! We got the braised beef short ribs and potatoes with some veggies, and onion soup. Everything was excellent! Our waiter was great I can't remember his name. And there French bread is so good! I'm not a big bread person, but it was so good! I'm not sure what the price was, but I think it was kind of pricey. So check it out for yourself. We just wanted to eat and go to bed.

Very good lunch combo with the 4-course meal! $27 but you have an appetizer, two entrees and a dessert. All in small portions but total it makes a great lunch. It's ideal. Service is perfect and polite. Only three stars because of the location...

It would be hard to imagine why anyone other than the guests at the Sofitel would dine here. It's not for a lack of trying, which indeed they do here, but logistically, it doesn't feel like this restaurant is within proximity of anything convenient for locals much less tourists staying elsewhere in Miami. But I have to give the staff at this restaurant credit for rising above the standards of the rather lackluster hotel that houses it. I ended up eating here twice as I didn't have a rental car, and frankly, the food was reasonably prepared, just not overly memorable for the price. It's the type of place that serves their culinary creations on big square plates in order to provide artful presentations of sometimes absurdly small portions. Know what I mean? The dining room was large and white presumably to accommodate armies of conventioneers or legions of families on holiday. For breakfast, I tried the $14 Traditional Benedict, a pair of poached eggs on an English muffin with Canadian bacon and ladled with a thick hollandaise sauce. It came with a Provencal tomato, a couple of asparagus spears and a small pile of fingerling potatoes (photo: bit.ly/1xsqhFe ). It was the picture of a business class meal on United. It was simply fine along with the $4 Fresh press container of Lavazza coffee (photo: bit.ly/1Bxvm5G ). I must have found this inoffensive because I came back for dinner on the one free night I had from my conference at another hotel. They featured a $38 Degustation four-course meal which I found irresistible on an expense account. It started with an intriguing combination of Foie Gras, Cardamom Brioche and Fig Confit along with a Mesclun Salad and Sea Scallops with White Truffle Mascarpone Risotto (photo: bit.ly/1J23WG2 ). Tasty as it was, that's a lot of verbiage for what amounted to an appetizer worth of food on a plate with the foie gras hardly visible. The Crusted Lamb Rack with Boursin Cheese Polenta came on its own plate, and once again, I have to say it was good but awfully paltry in portion with the lamb barely a couple of chops much less a rack (photo: bit.ly/1ykwsPR ). Two plates doesn't appear to be four courses to me but why quibble? It all ended on a sweet note with a $10 Pineapple Panna Cotta served in a little tumbler (photo: bit.ly/1C0AiPD ). Like I said, it was rather pricey for the serving, and ordering a pizza back in my room did cross my mind. FOOD - 3 stars...artful French fare but microscopic portions didn't thrill me AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...spacious dining room saw little traffic when I was there SERVICE - 3 stars...stiff, old-school approach TOTAL - 3 stars...when at the Sofitel on an expense account, dine here but otherwise, well...

Beautiful Restaurant with Solid Food I dined here several times while staying at the Sofitel. I had lunch here twice (one day I had the bacon burger and one day I had the beef empanadas). Both meals were fine, but not memorable. I also had dinner here and it was memorable. The restaurant, while lovely during the day, is even more attractive in the evening. I began my dinner with the mesclun salad and followed with an entree of penne pasta with shrimp in a light pesto sauce, which was really good. I also had a pinot grigio by the glass. I completed my meal with a caramel custard dessert. Since i was dining alone, I wasn't interested in lingering, but also didn't want to feel rushed. The timing of my meal was just perfect and the waiters were friendly and helpful. Having this nice restaurant in the Sofitel was a real plus to my overall stay. The cost of my meal, including tax and tip was about $65.

I love this place. I would never think to go to a small hotel restaurant like this, but I was pleasantly surprised. This place is good...service=EXCELLENT (some of the best I've had in MIami.) Food is very good quality...I had a ceasar salad, my friend had the 30 minute meal, and another friend had the nicoise salad. Everyone was happy with their food. One friend has allergies to shrimp but forgot to mention, the server happily brought a side of the veges minues the shrimp without and DRAMA that we're so used to getting in Miami. If you're in the area, or looking to entertain business guests, this is a great place to go...they might actually be surprised that you can dine with service in Miami. I love the way this place makes you feel!!

Lovely, lovely little restaurant. Scrumptious Nutella crepes. Fresh decor and ambiance. I also appreciate the efforts of the waitstaff attempting to speak French with their Cuban accents in this French/Mediterranean restaurant.

Food was solid without being spectacular, but service was great, and ambience and space were really nice. After dinner, you can go and sit in the hotel lounge for a drink, which are pricey but strong. (The husband couldn't finish his. But he is a notorious lightweight). Would be a good date night location. Certainly worth a shot, particularly if you live in the area.

I can't see who would eat there if they weren't staying in the hotel, but as a guest it's really your only option if you don't want to drive or cab it. Their breakfast was delicious. A little smoothie and juice (I think) came complimentary. I had the Strawberry Nutella Crepes and they were heavenly. He said the pancakes and french toast tasted like any other - not fantastic, but not bad. Lunch was quite so-so...so much that neither of us can really recall any details about it. Again, not fantastic, but not bad. Their set up and presentation was nice and the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. A tad pricey for what you get, but that goes with it being a hotel restaurant, I guess.

OVERPRICED!!!! The food here is mediocre at best and they are charging South Beach prices for it. I think the only reason they are getting away with it is that if you are staying at the Sofitel, and you don't have a car, you have no choice but to eat here. Doral/Miami Aiport area isn't really known for it's stunning restaurant choices anyway. I had the short ribs which turned out to be basically underseasoned pot roast and mashed potatoes with a tiny bit of baby vegetables. My husband had the mahi which was also underseasoned and came with plain white rice and the same baby vegetables. We also ordered the corn and crab chowder which was basically a corn puree type soup with a little spoonful of crab meat in the middle. On the bright side, the service was very good although we were the only peope in the restaurant when we got there, so it would have been hard for the service not to be at least ok. I'm really baffled by the good reviews. I feel bad for my husband, he brought me here for my birthday based on the good reviews, and we ended up with a totally blah meal for over $86 with tax and tip.

This place screams elegance. Tables are dressed with white table linens, divided by white curtains and sophisticatedly accented by thick heavy red water glasses, immediately inspiriting tranquility. The bright and quite room also has a view of the garden. Here French and Mediterranean flavors cross for perfection. We started with the perfect bread basket packed with soft, warm rolls some with raisins which we quickly finished by finally dipping in our appetizer, pumpkin soup, (the soup of the day), which was so good, I was almost sorry I shared. Yet, on the bright side, I had more room to chow. My friend had the highly praised cheeseburger certified Angus with cheddar cheese. I didn't try it but it looked mouthwatering and she who is not a meat lover was very impressed. I had the delicious chicken quesadillas with caramelized onions, spinach and goat cheese, soooo good, I finished it all, even though I was stuffed. But we didn't stop there, to top our full bellies which led to unbuttoned trousers, we ended out meal with the heavenly vanilla crème brûlée accompanied by an assortment of berries that was worth every bite.

Shnazzy! This is the most memorable place my wife and I ate at on our vacation in Miami. We attended the Christmas meal deal, plenty to eat and perfect amounts to leave us satisfied. Really though, it was damn good and a very classy/romantic setup. We almost had the entire place to ourselves!
