I was in town from California for a family vacation. We ate here on our last night because we had already had Cuban food twice and eaten at The Grill next door twice. Chinese food is everywhere in southern California and I drive over an hour to get to my favorite restaurant. With that said, the food we ordered was very good and there was so much on the extensive menu that I sorely wanted to try. Although it takes longer, I appreciate that everything was made to order and was all very hot when we got back to our hotel. I also like that the sweat and sour chicken was fried and the sauce was placed in a separate container. I was disappointed to find that we used the one container of sweat and sour sauce before we got into the second order of sweat and sour chicken. We ordered two family meals for eight people so it could have been an over site. It was definitely too much food. It was our last night in town so a bit of food went to waste because I couldn't take it on the plane ride home. The food was good and I wish I could have tried more dishes.

EAT HERE! This is the best Chinese food in town simply because it doesn't taste like Chinese food. Ho-Wah mathematically figured out how to make sweet and sour chicken not taste like the usual greasy, filling, fried, and gross tasting chicken that we have all become accustomed to. This place is a small hole in the wall, it's family owned, and you can only order takeout or delivery i believe. The small inconvenience of not being able to dine in doesn't matter because of just how good the food is. i strongly suggest one orders the Bourbon Chicken with a side of their always fresh fried rice.

If you like good Chinese don't come here. The wonton soup is entirely bland and is just broth with an overcooked dumpling inside, no scallions, no charsui slices. The special fried rice was bland and made with vidalia onions, again no scallions. Sub par fake Chinese.

Great chinese food for price! Chicken and broccoli is delish ;) not to mention they deliver like in 15 minutes (not a joke) and food always hot and fresh...highly recommended for those who are PICKY about their chinese food

The shrimp was better than i expected and so was the rice; granted my expectations were low; i give them points for cleaning the shrimp properly the people are nice; the portions are larger than average; they throw in a large variety of veggies, all fresh; it is cheap; i was not crazy about the chicken in chili sauce.... The egg rolls were just okay...it is better than many others

Menu placed on door so we decided to try someplace new: ordered take-out last night, Beef with Orange Peel and General Tao Chicken, the meat was unrecognizable, heavily breaded and saturated in the heavy syrup sauce. The Wonton Soup tasted like chicken soup with the thickest dough on a dumpling I've ever seen. The Fried Rice was oily! Stay away from this place, it was awful to say the least. We threw it all away. Disgusting.

Just ordered take out and had to throw away all the food. Ordered Kung Pao chicken and it was filled with a gelatinous brown sauce and some mushy vegetables. disgusting! . Did not see any chicken, just soggy breading all gooey with gelatin (since when does Kung Pao chicken come with breading?). Just eat a can of dog food and save your money. The guys that work there look like they have not showered in weeks...Why would they wash the chicken? As soon as you see them and the cook you will realize that they will eat anything and sell anything?

Wanted to try this place out after hearing so much positive feedback about it. My partner gets a lot from here at work and he's a good judge of Chinese food. Everything was right on point. Can't say anything bad. Food was exactly what it should be for Chinese takeout. Price is very reasonable too. They even do plantains.

I don't want anyone to think I'm hating on this place 'cause I'm not. I give it three and a half out of five stars, which is still a passing grade in my book for a Chinese takeout restaurant. This is actually one of the better ones I've had so far. Chinese takeout is ubiquitous but what this restaurant has done is that they've made all of my favorite Americanized Chinese dishes without over frying and over soy-saucing everything up. I don't know about you, but whenever I pick up a bag of chicken wings the bottom is practically breaking from the grease accumulation. Same thing with spring rolls and sometimes even the rice containers. Not at Ho Wah. I wouldn't dare use the term "healthy" to describe their food but it is definitely, considerably less greasy than the other takeout restaurants in this area. The food tastes how it should, is prepared quickly, and even costs less than the competition. I've had the vegetable fried rice, spring rolls, honey chicken, and the wings and have enjoyed them all. Like I said, this is good takeout food but that is also why I won't give it that extra star. If they started serving up some seriously traditional items this rating would shoot up. I think I'll be ordering my takeout from here from now on.

I am not too familiar with Chinese restaurants in this area but I was babysitting and craved some fried rice. I called to place a delivery order. I ordered the vegetable fried rice, the vegetable soup and the Szechuan bean curd. Someone by the name of Nana took my order and said delivery was 30-35 minutes. I got the delivery in 25 minutes. Everything was pretty good and fresh. I would recommend this place!

  • The Jessinator M.

Staff is friendly. The food is decent. Best things are the steamed dumplings, wonton soup, and mein fun. I'm not giving a better rating because it's always hot in this plave. Take out or delivery only would be my recommendation.

I wanted to believe in this place. I tried it on 3 separate occasions within 1.5 weeks. Don't waste your time or your money. First I'll talk about the food. Twice I ordered shrimp & broccoli and it was OK, but lacked the flavor-I had to add lots of seasoning at home. I am originally from the DC/Baltimore area with family in NYC so I know what Chinese food should taste like and be priced like. Shrimp & Broccoli: The broccoli is mushy and they give you about 5 shrimp total. It should be called Broccoli and Rice with a few shrimp. If you don't eat it in one sitting you will be disappointed with the leftovers later due to the mushy texture. Fried Rice: Their fried rice is TERRIBLE and it's yellow. Everyone who knows real fried rice in America knows that it should be brownish and not yellow. They also don't include egg in their fried rice which is standard in good Chinese food. When I inquired about egg I was told it was an additional $1. I don't recommend paying an additional $1 for something that should be standard. Sweet & Sour Shrimp Don't bother. The shrimp are the smallest fantail shrimp I've ever seen. The shrimp are actually mostly just bread. The shrimp are tiny but the breading makes it look like it'll be worth the money until you open it up. Not only are the shrimp tiny inside but they're also NOT deveined. This was new for me. You will be disappointed and very hungry still. As of January 2014 they're menus list $5.50-$6.50 for prices with most of the lunch menu items being $5.50. I went to try the Shrimp and Garlic meal and was told AS I WAS PAYING that it increased to $8.50 for the lunch special. Their menu prices didn't reflect that there was now an increase for shrimp dishes by $1 and egg in fried rice was also an extra $1 as well as another $1 for a shrimp egg roll instead of pork. Between the less than average tasting Chinese food and poor service and "supposedly" new prices I wouldn't do business here ever again. I'm ok with companies increasing prices, BUT the menus or posters on the wall need to reflect those prices. I don't care if they're posted with a sharpie marker on a plate-at least it's posted somewhere. I refuse to give my business to places with poor service and poor product. Spend your money elsewhere-good luck though. This is Miami and the Chinese here is terrible for the most part. If you want good Chinese visit the DC/Baltimore Area, NYC, St. Louis, or the west coast. Places with higher Chinese populations just have better food. Don't settle for trash here.

After ordering, they took an hour and a half, and they mixed up the orders so my receipt had someone else's card number and wrong price. Food was okay but overall im never ordering here again.

This is hands down the best Chinese food in the area. The owners are extremely friendly, and actually recognize my phone number whenever we call to place an order and tell them "no carrots" lol. My family and I have never been disappointed with the food. I highly recommend the egg drop soup and chicken and broccoli (which are my favorite items) but whatever you order, I assure that you won't be disappointed.

Best Chinese food in Miami! You are probably thinking "pfff yeah right! A little hole in the wall on Bird Rd. is the best Chinese food in MIami?? She must be insane!" Oh, but you're wrong, my young padawan, and if you heed my advice you will eat deliciously for the foreseeable future. We checked this place out because it was close to home and had good reviews on Yelp. It was the best decision we have made (in regards to Chinese food)! Ho Wah is a treat we constantly look forward to. Our favorite meal: - house special fried rice - tostones - honey garlic fried chicken wings - add their hot sauce on everything. You're welcome. This meal, which can feed 4 people easily, comes out to about $15.00. Yeah! Just writing about it makes me salivate. Yummy, yummy Ho Wah, we are forever indebted to you for the hope you gave us that great Chinese food is available in Miami! Sure, it's not authentic Chinese food per se but it's delicious and won't hurt your wallet.

We recently purchased our home and had not found a good chinese restaurant that delivers in the area - so ofcourse, we resorted to Yelp. This restaurant had great reviews so we decided to give it a try. We called and asked if they would deliver to our home, since we are a bit far. They were very nice and said they would deliver. The delivery took about an hour, but we figured that much since like I said we are a bit far from them. We ordered crispy garlic chicken, orange chicken and pork fried rice. Everything was delicious and the portions were huge! We will definitely be ordering again from Ho Wah.

The Fried dumpling sauce is amazing. I order up to 3 times a week. Always fast and always good. Priced well. Don't forget. You get what you pay for and here I feel my money is well spent.

This place is awesome! Very good food fast service and best of all is very very good price! Especially the Lunch specials! The food is supper fresh they make it for you when you order it... Its my favorite lunch spot when i get out of class. But on thing when you walk in for the first time you are like WHAT! because is a very small place with one table and 4 seats. But never judge the book by its cover you will be surprised!

Miami needs a Chinatown. If this place qualifies as a gem, then I'm a bit depressed over the Chinese food scene, or lack thereof, in Miami. I mean seriously, this place is JUST ok. Absolutely not worthy of its 4.5 star rating. That really is an indictment on how poor the Chinese food in this area really is. If people review Chinese food spots as harshly as they do Cuban spots, then you'd see a much lower rating here. But other than the occasional Panda Express, there really isn't much by way of quality Chinese food in this part of town. And that's very surprising to me. However, the bigger surprise is the lack of authenticity in their sauces. I ordered Shrimp in Garlic Sauce and Hunan Vegetables. Other than the shrimp, you couldn't tell either dish apart at first glance. Hunan dishes are predominantly spicy and the Hunan Vegetables at Ho Wah did not disappoint. The Shrimp in Garlic Sauce threw me for a loop though. I'm used to seeing this dish finished with a clear or white sauce. But that wasn't the case here. Aside from the lack of visual differences, the Hunan Vegetables cost $7.45. That's a ripoff for stir-fried mixed vegetables. At least there were a decent amount of shrimp in the Shrimp in Garlic Sauce. They definitely get a lot business. While my GF and I were there, several people came in for orders and they took several orders over the phone. But I'm not sure they're busy because they're the only option around or because people actually think this place is good. At best it's ok, but for me I've definitely had better. Where are all the Chinese people...

My go-to place for fresh and tasty Chinese food. They've never disappointed. One of my major pet peeves when it comes to Chinese joints is the lack of meat in dishes such as "Shrimp Fried Rice", "Hunan Shrimp", etc. Not this place...they are not skimpy with the meat and their stuff ALWAYS tastes fresh. Delivery is awesome as well, though some drivers already demand tips before you can even pull your wallet out.

I really like this place. If you are looking for take out quality food, this is a really good option. They have the best steamed dumplings EVER. Their spring rolls are delicious as well and they always deliver before or at the time they say. We have ordered here for family gatherings and everyone kept getting refills. Definitely recommend!

I've been wanting to try Ho Wah after reading so much positive reviews and I'm quite disappointed. I had the honey garlic chicken wings and the special fried rice and it was just edible. Nothing to rave about. Maybe I'm just picky because I'm of Chinese decent and is use to the real thing. Won't be back here.

The worst delivery service ever!!!! They took an hour and a half to get to my house and I live around the corner but if that wasn't enough they forgot my water and added things I didn't even order!

We've been dying to check this place out from the reviews, and finally got the chance at lunch a few days back. First of all, the place is wicked SPOTLESS clean. Like it's been said, it's not quite an eat-in, but there are a few tables in front where you can eat from your take-out containers. The food is clearly fresh, and the General Tso's Chicken had a light, crispy breading that wasn't mushy and gluey like most places; the Szechuan Beef was melt-in-your-mouth perfectly cooked, and they used a nice cut of beef instead of the fatty, overcooked hanger that the majority of Chinese restaurants serve. The sauces are fresh-tasting but salty, with well defined flavor - not the usual take-out taste. Both dishes we had were constructed similar to standard take-out fare, though, with large dice of cabbage, green pepper and onions, which likely makes them more familiar to the standard take-out crowd. The Fried Raviolis/Dumplings were also very good, almost up there with Kon Chau (but KC still has the best we've tasted!). Portions were very generous, and we fed three each on one dish and white rice. They have a full menu with the usual Chop-Suey/Cantonese Items, along with the spicy stuff we usually get, even Ma Po Tofu... A very pleasant surprise in the quality-starved Western Front; we'll get take-out the next time, maybe even tonight!

Ordered 2 lunch specials while at work: chicken with garlic sauce, and beef with broccoli. Each lunch special comes with rice, and eggroll or drink. Soups for .75 extra. We ordered hot & sour & won ton soup. Very reasonable prices and fast delivery . The crunchy noodles and fortune cookies that came with our order were fresh and delicious too. No duck sauce, soy sauce, or other condiments came with the order. They mixed up my order and sent shrimp instead of chicken. When I called to let them know they promptly corrected the order and sent the right dish. Once again, remembering to omit the green peppers. All of our food was freshly prepared, very tasty, and not too greasy. This restaurant is a great option for very reasonably priced fresh chinese food with quick delivery.

Good Chinese food is very hard to find in Miami. Make no mistake, this is NOT the place to find it. I've given this dump 3 tries and have never finished anything! The meats taste artificial, the fried rice has frozen veggies in it, and not even the appetizers can save this dump! Absolutely terrible.

This is the best Chinese food I have had ever had. Before this relatively new spot opened up about 2-3 years ago, the best Chinese I've had was Peking duck in NY's china town. This place delivers the freshest vegetables best variety in typical Chinese food at the best quality. EAT HERE! I have a bias since I'm close enough for delivery... but this beats NY duck's with a 1,200 mile long kendo stick. Any food that can stay hot from Westchester to Midtown (Miami's Westchester and Midtown) is a gift from up above. Top Pick: Sweet and Sour Pork & their Chicken Chow Mein

This place is under new management and as far as I can tell, new cooks. Ah well.. It's not as great as it was before they changed, but it's still good. The big change to me was the honey garlic chicken and the general tso. The general tso isn't as sweet as it used to be. The honey garlic is now served with the honey sauce served separately rather than cooked on. The honey sauce is kinda weak and close to sugar water. My wife is very picky and I actually didn't tell her that management changed at Ho Wah, but when I gave her, her usual cashew chicken she could tell that something was not right. She ate a couple of bites and wanted me to throw it away. The chicken also had pieces of beef in the dish which really upset her. They do offer some new stuff like the bourbon chicken which is pretty good and on par with the stuff you get at your local mall. The food is still good and better than most around the area, but it's just not the same.

This is the best Chinese take-out I have had in Miami. The food is not greasy. Even the spring rolls are light. A big plus: no MSG. I have never visited the establishment since every time I have eaten from there it has been take-out. The guy that delivers the food is really nice. We (fiance and I) invited the the parents over for dinner a couple of weeks ago and everybody loved it. They liked it so much that when I visited my parents yesterday, we ordered from Ho Wah. Another big plus for Ho Wah: an awesome veggie selection. Their General Tso's tofu is delicious as is their vegetables Hunan style. I had the vegetable chop suey last night and it was delicious. Their vegetable lo mein is not too heavy and has a nice mix of vegetables.

WOW! I just picked up take out from Ho Wah Chinese Restaurant in West bird center. I was not expecting the mouth watering, orgasmic ton of fun, dining experience, that I had. I ordered honey chicken, fried rice, steamed dumplings, won ton soup, and spring rolls. The only thing that I was not "wowed" with were the spring rolls, I have definitely had better. However, the dumplings were the best dumplings I have ever had. They were perfectly steamed with a good amount of meat in the center. The dumpling dipping sauce was delicious. I will probably dream of those damn dumplings tonight in my sleep! The fried rice was light, fluffy and did not have too much soy sauce. The honey chicken was a mix of fluffy, crunchy, perfect little white chicken pieces that you dip into the sweet honey sauce put on the side. In summary: I was very impressed with my impromptu Chinese meal, that by the way, was ready in a matter of 7 minutes and under 17.00. The fat chick inside of me is very happy, my ass is not! :)

The food is pretty filling and it's tasty and cheap. You can't really beat that. I was able to feed myself for two meals with one of their dinner choices.

Beware: this is not, by any stretch of the imagination, "authentic Chiense food", nor does it pretend to be. It is, however, fantastic take-out food. The restaurant itself is a bit antiseptic, but clean and serviceable. The food is anything but. I usually stick to the fried/breaded chicken dishes, but all of their dishes are great. Their lunch/dinner specials are likely the best kept secret in Miami; one lunch or dinner special can easily be shared between two people and is around $5-7.

Okay, now you have to understand that this place isn't really a sit and dine kind of Business. It's self own and not really a fancy place that has the gentle layout that most restaurants has. But the place even though small makes up for it for it's food. The food is always made to order and is DELICIOUS. Omg it is so delicious. It is always fresh and always very good. They always have a lunch special which is awesome. You can get a meal to feed two people for just 7 dollars. I've eaten there several times and it is definitely worth going to. All you have to do is find a nice pavilion with a comfortable bench to eat on. Congratulations you have discovered the cheap find of a five star Restaurant, no maxing out your credit cards with this place. Isn't that a wonder of relief?

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
