FCB is 1 of my all time hidden gems. Most people don't know it exist & I love that. The staff is so friendly & you always see the owner around. Even Pouring you a Glass of Wine or picking up tables if need be. Its a perfect location for a 1st date or to Brunch. I think I have had everything on their menu & I have yet to complain of any dish!

Great food at a good price. I had fresco sandwich which was great, fresh ingredients and they make their own bread! Switched my soup for fries with no extra cost, great service. $10 for my meal...i will definitely be coming back for more.

This outstanding little family-owned joint truly feels like you've discovered a hidden gem when you arrive. Nestled in a residential area near downtown Miami and next to a Peruvian fish market, Fresco California Bistro is a tiny storefront. The indoor part of the restaurant and bar probably only accommodates twenty, tops, but the forgiving South Florida weather and huge enclosed patio offer plenty of space for larger parties. The menu is expansive, covering California-Mexican, Italian, and new American cuisines and, surprisingly, everything is executed beautifully and with fresh ingredients. Each meal starts with a small round of the bistro's homemade bread, a sweet soft loaf served with a wonderfully salty, tangy olive tapenade. Entrees run the gamut from Veal Milanese to tacos to the Mexitalian fusion corn-stuffed ravioli. Standouts, however, include their remarkably hearty but light chile rellenos, baked rather than fried and stuffed with lean, seasoned beef and topped with a mild homemade tomato sauce, California orange salad of chicken, mandarin orange wedges, avocado, raisins, blue cheese, pecans and sweet vinaigrette, and Bianchi B Neri, a pasta dish served with perfectly cooked shrimp and scallops. Save room for dessert. Fresco California Bistro offers a great chocolate soufflé and mango pie, an awesome twist on the perennial Florida favorite, key lime. Crumbly, not-too-sweet graham cracker crust is filled with a sweet, creamy mango custard and fresh whipped cream. Service is out of this world. The owners clearly love what they're doing, visiting each table and making sure everyone is having a great experience. Highly, highly recommended.

My bf swore to me that I had been here before (a year prior) but I couldn't remember this place by the pics posted on yelp. It bothered me so much that I couldn't remember the place so I decided late last Saturday night to check it out again. As soon as we pulled up I was like "ohhhh this cute little place!" I was thrilled about this place because it is perfect for a casual cozy dinner. There was literally only one other group of customers there, which startled me for a Saturday night (it was an hr before closing time tho). We sat on the patio with lovely mood lighting & soft music playing in the background. I was loving it! Now, the best part- THE FOOD! I ordered the corn ravioli & fell head over heels in love (& that does not happen to me - my stomach is super sensitive so I don't enjoy alot of things I eat). It was simple but perfect! I only wish that the portion size was dinner. My hunny ordered the Mahi on special ( picatta, pasta, olive oil & garlic) & he was very happy as well. He said it was tasty & not bland at all. Our bill came out to $40 which included amazing food+2 sodas+2 cortaditos.. I will DEF be going back here many more times!

I hate this place, my friends from work always insist on going there but the place is just nasty dirty looking. Today I ordered the Fetuccini something de bosco and found some roach looking bug in it! Never again will i step foot in there.

Had heard about this place from a friend, so checked it out to start the weekend, Friday night . Located on Coral Way closer to downtown (dare I say 'older' section of town?), exepcting a crowded street with no parking (we all know Miracle Mile !!) but was pleasantly surprised to find parking was easy. A small crowd dined out in the ''outside'' dining area (it's a closed in, air conditioned veranda, but still enjoyable atmosphere) we opted for inside seating instead. Either setting is cozy, yet casual.Got a glass o' pinot grigio, and snacked on the bread with oilive oil and balsamic, while we perused the menu; It was very hard to pick something, as it all sounded wonderful!! Since the kitchen is open and in close proximity, we could smell everything cooking, and the constant sweet aroma of fresh garlic was intoxicating. Oh mama !! : ) We settled on the sweet corn tamales and shrimp and scallop provencale....we were NOT disappointed. Everything was fresh, and it tasted like a home cooked meal. I want to go back and try more things from the menu for sure. Dessert...I think I had something chocolate, but I ate it so fast I can't remember what it was; See if you can identify it from the attached picture : P Waiter was great, and the service was spot on; not to quick, not too slow. Great place to add to the ''thumbs up'' list. I recommend it !

Great place for lunch or dinner, with only the service lacking (but not always). I usually get Mexican choices there - which are all pretty decent. Their corn ravioli is really outstanding. They could use a larger drink list, as it has more of a beer feel than a wine feel (at least in my opinion). The prices are right, and they are very consistent. They have a great variety that should please any group. It is definitely a spot I frequent.

Located just along historic Coral Way, Fresco California Bistro serves a wide variety of dishes from Italian to Mexican, all flavored with a California twist. The interesting mix of ingredients, particularly in the salads, will leave you wanting to try everything. Be careful how much you order though - the portions are very generous. An enclosed terrace is also provided so that guests can enjoy the shade of Coral Way. Selections include gourmet pizza, salads, pastas, fish, chicken, and monster-sized burritos. My two favorite dishes are the California Orange Salad, consisting of chicken, mandarin oranges, avocado, candied pecans, and a delicious special dressing; and the burrito, filled with the usual ingredients but beware: it is HUGE

Ahhh...I am always underwhelmed by the food when I come here. Don't get me wrong- the vibe is perfect outside on the patio and I'd consider to be an "ok" place to have lunch during the week but I'd never choose this place over most restaurants within a 5 mile radius. The only thing that I think is worth getting here is the calamari since the sauce is oh so spicy and delicious, but then again the calamari itself isn't memorable.

I tried this place for lunch and thought it was really good. The pricing was reasonable for the portions and the food tasted really fresh. We had the burrito and the pumpkin ravioli. The burrito was done with fresh ingredients and tasted good; a large portion. The pumpkin ravioli was not the best I have had but still good. I will go back and try other dishes. I liked the patio eating option on this rainy day.

Very nondescript and unassuming from the street. I felt comfortable from the minute I stepped into the place. The staff was all smiles as was the kitchen staff, which is viewable from the dining room. I really felt at home and that they knew me as a regular. This can be an issue in our Miami restaurant scene. Clearly not here! The food was excellent, service, attitude and overall experience was highly recommended!! The only caveat I have is that they only have 2 high chairs for children in the restaurant. I look forward to my next visit :-)

I was looking for a place to have a nice birthday dinner with some close friends and came across some great reviews for this place. Honestly, Fresco California Bistro has the type of name that makes me reflexively want to walk in and kick every employee in whatever manner of gonads they have. When I see the words "fresco," "California" and "bistro" in the same line, I expect to be hit with a healthy dose of BS right in the face - the type where they bandy about on about organic potatoes, demand 20 dollars for what you would swear is a Wendy's side salad, and then all pleasure themselves in righteous self-satisfaction about how superior their food is. Despite that, the actual ambience and food made at Fresco California Bistro are some of the most cozy and down-to-earth that you can find in the city. The restaurant is a little hole in the wall establishment with an unassuming open kitchen and a patio for outdoor seating - I wanted to say cozy again, but my synonyms tool has suggested "snug." We were served by a tall young Hispanic man whom I can only describe as "delightful." He came by frequently and charmed all of our faces off. Admittedly, I was drunk, but I seem to remember he was hilarious. We started off with taquitos rancheros and a Pepe Lou pizza, which were both pretty good. I ordered skirt steak with pasta and spicy tomato sauce, but I also tried my friends' pumpkin ravioli, steak churrasco, and sausage because I lost my sense of personal boundaries. Everything was pretty badass. My steak was cooked medium rare to my liking, the sausage actually had a little kick to it, and the pumpkin ravioli was rich and creamy. Overall, a delicious meal and a great time. In the interest of full disclosure, my friend said he was very gassy yesterday morning. That may or may not have to do with dinner.

I rarely order pasta at restaurants unless it's a dish I would have a hard time pulling off at home. Pumpkin Ravioli is an example. I just always think of pumpkin as something you carve scary faces out of once a year. This dish reminded me of many other dishes where pasta is stuffed with a sweet ingredient and served with a creamy sauce. It was very well executed. The sauce packs a ton of flavor and the ravioli was cooked just right. Mix that in with a wonderful semi-sweet loaf of bread and you have all you need to wipe a plate clean. The covered patio is not as charming as I thought it would be. However, the service was great and the overall dining experience was a positive one. Will go back. Cheers!

Mexican and Italian under the same roof may seem scary, but Fresco California Bistro pulls it off. The location is easy to find, just outside of Brickell, and they have their own parking lot in the back. I started off with the eggplant parm appetizer. The eggplant was grilled really nicely, and finished with a thin tomato sauce and cheese. Overall it was good, but I would probably try something else as my app next time. For my entrée I ordered the Burrito, figured that I might as well see what they could do on the Mexican side of things. Funny enough, the burrito was great. Really tasty pulled chicken, guacamole, cheese, beans, spices, YUM. The tortilla was really good too. The thing that I liked about this place most is that EVERYTHING tasted really fresh, and was obviously made to order. The service was really good too.

I really enjoyed my lunch experience at FCB. Everything we ordered tasted "fresco" so the name is truly suiting. First off, the bread was out of this world. Probably the best bread I've had. Ordered the sweet corn tamales to split and while I was a little thrown off at first because it's not a formed tamale like I'm used to, they were great! The tomatoes, crema, and other little sauce served with them really enhanced their sweetness in a very good way. We also shared one of their Mexican combo dishes that came with a tostada, taco, chili relleno, rice and beans. Yum yum!! The taco was increadable. Everything else was good too, but that taco really stood out for me. Didn't have dessert this time around, so that completed our meal. The wait staff was great... I have nothing to complain about. Will be back very soon to check out some of their other menu items.

Wanted something different than my usual spot, so we decided on FCB. First time and honestly I was pretty impressed. Super cozy and everyone was nice. Service was kind of slow, but there was a big party for a birthday so I understood. Risotto was fantastic! I would definitely order it again. Other than the service being a bit slow, the wine list was meh. Saw a bottle we could get for $10 going for $30. We decided on a glass of the house Malbec each instead of a bottle. Overall, happy and would stop by again.

My cousin and I came here right before she had to catch a flight and we were so engrossed in the food, we totally forgot what time it was, and she ended up getting at the airport only 30 min. before the flight. Don't worry, she made it. THE ATMOSPHERE: Definitely a hole in the wall kind if place. The restaurant can easily be missed if you don't keep your eyes open. The inside area was a little dark, and it was a nice day so requested the outside. We sat in bright and sunny covered patio. My only suggestion would be to update the outside furniture and maybe clean the clear plastic coverings around the side because they were pretty dirty. THE FOOD: First they give you bread with an olive tapenade (fancy word for finely chopped olives) on it and it was just ok. I was hoping the bread would be hot and fresh, but it was a room temp. and a little hard and chewy. As an app. we ordered the corn tamales and it was so hot and yummy that we finished the whole thing. They served it with sour cream and fresh pico de gallo. We were already a little full by the time the main course came out . . . After reading the other reviews, the pumpkin ravioli jumped out at me and now I totally understand why. The sauce was rich and creamy and had a perfect blend of herbs. The ravioli melted in your mouth and I will definitely be coming to have more. THE SERVICE: We were immediately greeted at the door by a sweet lady, who got somebody to show us to our table. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. My only complaint is the food did take a little while to come out. Definitely try this place if you haven't already!

  • Ronni G.

I didn't think Italian and Mexican food go together, but Fresco California Bistro has something for everyone. The delicious tapenade appetizer that materialized without even being ordered kicked off a memorable meal. Fresh ingredients and appropriate use of seasoning make each item perfect. The place looks like nothing on the outside, but it's a gem. Don't pass it by.

I planned a full day of fun and culture for my wife's birthday at Vizcaya and wanted an interesting hole in the wall place for dinner after. I found Freco on yelp and decided to give it a try. It was a great recommendation. The place is small and cozy. In fact, when looking for it, you will probably miss it the first time. The service was excellent. Everyone from the waiter to chef is very attentive to your needs and to providing you great service. The food matched the service. I ordered the corn ravioli. It was a rich and decadent experience. The portions are small but filling. My wife had the pumpkin ravioli. It was also very good and rich in flavor. For an appetizer, I strongly recommend the tamale. Overall, I loved the experience and recommend it to anyone who is curious about Italian/Mexican fusion cuisine.

This has to be my favorite neighborhood joint. I call it a poor man's Cheesecake factory, only because their menu is so extensive. I love the homey feel and the fact that they always take care of you. For appetizer I always try to get their tamale... YUMM!!! always a crowd pleaser. Their specials are always savory and well prepared. My husband had the halibut with shrimp and it was great. I always go for their pasta, there is always something so comforting about pasta, I love their gnocchi pesto. For dessert we always indulge in the wonderful chocolate souffle that our waiter Allen knows we love. I highly recommend this place. LOVE IT!!!

Can't believe it took me this long to check out Fresco California! Cute little place with great service and even better food. Went with my S/O for lunch a couple weeks ago. We each ordered a glass of wine (NICE LARGE POUR) and had some fried calamari to start. The calamari was perfectly breaded and not too fishy. For lunch, I had the Linguine Alla Rosmarino and my partner had the Gnocchi- both were delicious (especially the linguine!). We actually traded plates halfway through! I've heard from others who frequent this place that the salads are amazing, and they looked it, considering 75% of the people around me were eating them! I will definitely be back to try the salad & will post an update soon!

One of my favorite restaurants in Miami. I've been coming to California Bistro for about 8 years and still love this place. This is also one of my husband's favorites and we had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding 6 years ago here. They have incredibly fresh meals and soups. They are known for their amazing salads and they don't disappoint. The staff, specifically Allan the waiter and Stella the owner are always welcoming and make our dinner trips special. Would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

I've been to Fresco twice, once for dinner and today for lunch. The first time I had a salad with grilled chicken on it, and I wasn't impressed. The chicken was dry and somewhat tasteless. I could have put together a better salad with my eyes closed. I went today for lunch and had the Fresco Combo. Although the soup was good, the sandwich wasn't and the turkey in it tasted like rubber. My boyfriend had the meatball sandwich and disliked it so much he didn't eat it. I definitely won't be visiting again.

When I searched for California Bistro I was appalled to see it only had 3 reviews! I have always been under the impression that this is a Miami favorite! Or at least it is also another one of my favorites. The menu is a combination of Mexican, Italian and of course California fare (I guess that stands for fresh...). The restaurant is small, cozy and I even romantic if you go at night. They start you off with fresh bread and small pieces of brushetta with black olive spread. As for the entrees my favorite is the "California orange salad": Blue cheese, candied walnuts, avocado, raisins, apple, orange, lettuce and chicken breast. The soups are very natural, no cream here! And delicious. The fajitas and the quesadillas, especially the veggie one, are also a great choice. For the pasta lovers, my friends love the Caramelle Di Pollo candy-shaped pasta filled with chicken and mushrooms. Creamy lettuce sauce and pretty much all others... A must in Miami! GO CHECK IT OUT I leave you with the menu:http://southflorida.menupages.com/menuprocess?id=32464&link=62d51add25bf35614d55f1872217424e3671c90be4438b4f82badb4569fe90c377f62d59dea0fd6d605b18b3fe1ea73c

One of my greatest discoveries. I work in the area and actually spotted this tiny place one day while eating at Tutto Pizza across the street. This place is very easy to miss if your driving out of downtown on 3rd Avenue; the entrance is very narrow and the rear parking lot holds maybe 10 cars, so come early during lunch or dinner time. Fresco manages to combine all the goodies of an Italian and Mexican restaurant. For starters they bring this delicious homemade bread that is a winner, but don't overdoit with the bread, so you have room for desert. You really can't go wrong with any of the pasta entrees, my favorite is the Corn Ravioli... mmmmmmmm good! They also have a great assortment of salads and of course everybodies favorite "Chicken Parmesan" is delicious here. For desert, you must have their Chocolate Souffle, but order it with your entree so that its ready by the time you finish your entree. (Normally takes about 10 minutes minimum to prepare).

I have been going to California Bistro for over ten years and I am still in love with the place. The ambiance is laid back and casually romantic - a great date restaurant. Allen is a wonderful waiter and makes the extra effort to get to know his regular customers. The menu is extensive but I always gravitate towards the California Chicken Salad. It is a lighter version of a Waldorf salad with candied walnuts, raisins mandarin oranges, blue cheese and avocados - I always order my salads with dressing on the side but this one is so perfect I do not want to mess with the salad alchemy. I order it every time I go! Which is why I like going with another person - they will readily split both entrees and salads so I try to split that magic salad and something else. I have yet to have something bad here. My favorites include the California salad (a given), pumpkin ravioli, the churasco and the tamales. Be sure to pay attention to the specials, they have included everything from sea bass to 16oz steaks and never disappoint.

I've really enjoyed eating at Fresco. The prices are reasonable and the food, tasty. I've recommend the corn tamales & the pumpkin ravioli. Also, be sure to ask for plenty of bread and olive tapenade. Yum!

So I had read great reviews from this place on here and another site so Saturday after the Heat got destroyed by the Bucks(the worst Heat game i have seen btw) a friend and I decided to check it out. We arrived around seven and they were able to seat us immediately. The place is easy to find and has parking in the back. Its very relaxed and laid back atmosphere, nothing fancy in any way which is part of the charm. We sat out in the covered patio as the weather was nice this evening. There menu selections were diverse and plentiful but we decided to go for salads. The waiter recommended there most popular salad, the California Orange Salad. It comes with chicken breast, mandarin orange, avocado, raisins, blue cheese, apple, mixed lettuce, candied pecans tossed with their own special dressing. It was a good salad with a different taste, but it needed something else to make it out of this world but I am not sure what that was. My friend had the Apple and Mango Salad which comes with grilled chicken, sun flower seeds, mixed lettuce, candied pecan, apple mango and vinaigrette. She did not finish it and she thought it was just ok. We decided to split a chocolate covered vanilla ice cream scoop and the vanilla ice cream was awesome but chocolate covering not so much. The owner did come by several times to see how we were doing which was a nice touch. As the night went on the place got much busier. Overall a descent place and will go again to try something else on the menu but down the road sometime.

FCB is my favorite restaurant in Miami, and the only one I'll give 5 stars to. It boasts a huge menu and a wonderful neighborhood atmosphere. Parking is easy and I've never had to wait for a table. I've found that many of the customers there are regulars who know the owner and staff. Even for the uninitiated, the staff definitely seems to go the extra distance to make you feel genuinely welcome (a rather novel idea in Miami). Of course the service doesn't matter if the food doesn't match, and at FCB the food is great. As I mentioned before, the menu is huge, and I can't imagine anyone not finding something they would like. I've had a traditional Mexican combo dish (tacos+enchiladas) and also the corn ravioli. Both were excellent. For dessert, I've found the chocolate souffle to be a great way to cap any meal. Perfect.

My neighborhood bistro. My wife and I eat here all the time. #1 on the menu for me. Corn Ravioli! #2 is the Chicken Piccata with french fries. If you go to FCB, try one of these 2 items on the menu and you will not be disappointed. Other things to note. Small, dont go with a party larger than 6 or 8. May be tight. Good for dates. Charming restaurant with a very nice owner. Good bread.

The reason I'm giving this restaurant a 3 and not a 2 is because I had a great experience the first time I ate here. This last time, the Fresco Combo sandwich (turkey/avocado) looked pathetic (my co-worker actually called it "not appetizing"), and tasted bland.

  • Michelle J.

This restaurant has a very "homey" feeling to it. Small, cozy and very friendly service. The staff has been there forever, so that says a lot. The food is always fresh and delicious. They have the best raviolis in Miami (my personal favorite is between the corn and the pumpkin). I'd also recommend their mexican combo platters.

it's been such a long time since I came to eat here...and after the wonderful meal I had today, I'm not sure why that is. but I do know for certain that won't be happening again! we were looking for a place close by, for a quick-ish lunch that wasn't a bland salad or sandwich. I remembered this place and figured I'd give it another try. from the moment we walked in the service was outstanding - attentive, friendly, but not too pushy. the waiter told us the specials immediately so we could then have time to look over the menu and decide. the specials sounded delicious, but we stuck to the regular menu. we started out with the artichoke hearts soup - no cream, just blended artichoke hearts - and it was one of the tastiest soups I can remember having. I then went on to have the ribbon cut pasta with portobello mushrooms, breadcrumbs, and marinara & cream sauce (I added chicken which was a perfect flavor combination). it was delicious...not too saucy, not too rich, just right! my lunch mate had the burrito grande which is super stuffed with chicken & rice (which was really well seasoned) and comes with refried beans and rice. this place is great to have nearby - yummy food with lots of menu options at a reasonable price, great customer service, served in a timely manner (in and out within an hour). couldn't ask for much more. definitely will be making this a more regular lunch-time spot! **seriously, my lunch was soo good that I just started eating the leftovers at my desk - no fooling!**

I asked my girlfriend what she wanted for dinner and she said 'Mexican or Italian'. I checked out Yelp and this place had the best of both worlds, not to mention it was right down the street. I just managed to piss my girlfriend off, so we got take out instead of sitting down to dinner. We waited in the dinning area directly next to the kitchen, which is open. While it is nice to be able to watch your food being prepared, it did mean that servers were constantly walking around us and the noise and bustle of the kitchen was apparent. The main dining room was empty, but it was busy out on the back patio. As far as the food was, it was great. My girlfriend had the mexican sampler, and it wasn't just tacos and enchiladas. There was this pasty-corn stuff which was incredible. I went with Italian, getting a scallop and shrimp dish. It was a little heavy on the salt, but otherwise it was pretty damn good.

A friend took us here while visiting Miami. This is one of there local joints. We loved it. I ordered the pasta with olives and anchovies in spicy tomato sauce. It was a special of the day. I never order pasta with anchovies and olives, it is usually salty but it was not. The portion was just perfect and I ate the whole thing. Yummy. My friend has seared Tuna with veggies which was good. and also my other friend ordered toqitos that came with rice and beans. and other friend had a salad which was pretty tasty. The people that own the restaurant was from Cali. Now you know why this place is good. Try it.

My wife and I ate lunch here today. The staff were extremely warm and friendly and made us feel like we were guests in their home. Besides the regular menu there were a number of daily specials that our waiter described to us. I decided to try blackened swai, which I had never tried nor ever heard of in my life. I was told it was a fresh water fish that tasted similar to tilapia. My wife went with a salad consisting of grilled chicken on a bed of greens with mandarin oranges, raisins, avocado, and candied walnut pieces which we had read about on Yelp. While waiting for our lunch to be prepared we were brought a nice warm half loaf of bread with balsamic vinegar and oil for dipping. Our main courses took a little while to come out as everything is prepared fresh once ordered. The swai was a very generous portion and was served over some very tasty grilled vegetables. The fish did taste similar to tilapia and was full of flavor from the blackening seasonings. The salad was also a very large portion and although a little pricey at $14.99 it was worth it for all the wonderful and fresh ingredients. Overall we had a very pleasant experience. We didn't have any room left for dessert, but hope to go back again soon to sample one as well as some of the other main dishes that are offered.

I saw all the good reviews and decided to give it a try. Cozy little restaurant between Brickell/Downtown and Miracle Mile. A little difficult to find at first, but you can park in a small lot behind the restaurant. Ambiance is good not great. Seating is not very comfortable. More tables outside then inside on their covered patio which they can enclose for the few cold days we have down here. As for the food, I didn't enjoy my chicken quesadilla very much, but my girlfriends pesto gnochi was pretty good. Portions were small for the price, but you could tell they use good quality ingredients. Seemed pretty quiet, but we did go on a cold Monday night, which could explain that.

I've been here twice, and although I can't complain at all about the food, because everything I've ever ordered has been fresh and prepared healthy, I feel its just a little overpriced. Besides that, however, it is really nice little spot, very dimly lit, and good service. The menu has something for everyone. I"ve had fish dish, and a salad, both were great. I've tried their soup and it was awesome. But the one thing I have to suggest you try if you are ever there is the amazing Mango Pie. Its awesome!! Even if you're on a diet, just share it with everyone on the table, its totally worth the calories.

Went here on two 5 star reviews from my friends and I have to say the place is pretty good. You almost miss it when your going down the street because it's so small and secluded. Parking is in the rear. Very mom and pop kind of restaurant. The dining area has a capacity for about 20 under a covered patio. As appetizer I had the tamales. For my main meal, I had the delicious burrito with beef and it was was huge that I took half of it home. The burrito was $11 +$2 if you want it with beef. I felt drinks were a bit off a ripoff. If you ask for coke to drink it's not fountain drink so every can of coke you order is $2.50. So your better off drinking water if your budget conscious. I'm going back to try something different from the menu but you can't go wrong with the burrito!

A must go, this place is a triple threat establishment. The ambiance is like your best friend's mom's house with a professional catering company serving your every desire. The few tables they have, I would say less then 20, most are outside on a nice covered patio. Does not feel like your outside so it is very comfortable. The fresh baked bread served with crushed kalamata olives gets your savory cylinders turning. The variety of their menu can please any picky eater, to begin we started with the sweet corn tamals, that come with a dollop of sour cream and some green pepper sauce a very good choice being light on your appetite. The passion fruit iced tea isn't any spectacular unless you like unsweetened iced tea. My main course was the giant burrito, served with refried beans and pinto rice topped with sour cream, guacamole, & pico de gallo. A little intimidating, a lot of food, but the flavors and textures... the chicken inside the burrito was juicy! Where do you find that? After devouring the whole burrito I couldn't leave without seeing what they had to offer for dessert. I ordered the chocolate souffle which takes 20-30 minutes, but is always worth it, served with vanilla ice cream it was perfect. Very happy eating here, and I will return.

I absolutely love this place! I had been living in the area for a year and didn't realize it was open because it's a little dark on the outside. My fiance and I were riding bike one day when we realized it was open and it quickly became our favorite restaurant. I love that it's a family restaurant and after a couple of visits, the waiters and owners recognize you and the dish you usually order, which for me is the Chicken Piccata and the Corn Ravioli. It's cozy, the food is great and the service is very friendly.

I'll preface my review by saying the night before I went to Cafe Versailles and had a great dinner there. The next day I wanted to take my family, who were visiting, to south beach. It was ridiculously busy out there so I turned around and headed back. Somewhere along the way I spotted the little sign for this hole in the wall and figured we should try it out. Am I glad I turned around. This has to be one of the best little restaurants I've ever been to. Quite possible the best. It isn't much to look at from the outside, but on the inside it looks like a cozy italian restaurant. Indoor seating and an outdoor enclosed seating area. Good music and ambiance fits the italian look. It's a mix between mexican/italian with a california style to it. They first bring bread with olive tampanade (amazing), and we tried the tamale appetizer that was great (sweet not spicy), with tomatillo sauce and a spicy salsa on the side. The pastas they have are all home made, as well as the sauces. I'm running out of adjectives to describe how good everything was. We all even had desert, which is a rarity when going out. I can't stress how phenomenal this place was. A little expensive (for me, $10-15 entrees) but well worth every penny. Good atmosphere, good service, good food. What else could you ask for?

I drive by this restaurant everyday on my way to work and always wanted to stop by and check it out. I wasn't impressed with the place or the food. The service was great however they took a little long to bring the check,

This is one of the best places in Miami to get great food. Its a local neighborhood restaurant with a great casual atmosphere. If you just want to have a laid back good meal, this is the place to go. I always have one of the pasta dishes and always wipe the plate clean. In some of the pasta dishes you are given the option of spicy and non-spicy, they are both good. I have not had any of the salads yet, but they look great and a lot of people always seem to be ordering them, so they do something right in the salads as well. I haven't had any of the desserts, I am usually to full. The service is excellent, I never have to look around for a waiter or anything they are always vigilant and well mannered. They have parking in the rear, but it is limited and not meant for big cars like SUVs. There is also street parking. Can't wait for my next visit.

Wonderful salads and very laid back. Nice contrast to the fussiness of some Brickell places.

If by "Bistro" they mean small and crappy, they hit the head of the nail. Service was ok, not great. Food was horrible. I waited 20 mins for tacos filled with canned chilli. Taco bell is better. Do not take a date here! Restaurant is tiny and dirty. And way overpriced for the quality.

Good food, usually sit in the outdoor area that's surrounded by plastic walls. Alain, the waiter, has moved up from busboy and is friendly.

Heard this was a nice 'hole in the wall' w good food so decided to chk it out, but waiter got the entire order wrong. We ordered a tuna melt tht showed up sans cheese, OK ... then ordered shrimp fajita for it to show up as vegetarian fajita ... wouldnt go back or recommend it to anyone.

I used to come here and used to like it a lot. the owners are super nice and my orange avocado pecan candied Idk what else salad is amazing. But last time we went we wanted fish tacos, and asked the waitress if the fish was breaded / dep fried, she said not... but It was.... not good if you're trying to eat gluten free... and the waitress has been there for years.. so not sure what she understands by deep fried and breaded..... I love that they're trying to do organic. Will keep coming but will have to show pictures next time we want to ask about the fish....

Cosy spot off the beaten path. Soft music, open kitchen, delightfully attentive owner-hostess. The food is wonderful, we had the burrito and quesadilla. Portions are generous, we shared the burrito and we're still full. Come to this wonderful family restaurant.

What a great little place! I ordered the strawberry chicken salad with an ice tea. Right off the bat I knew the place was going to be fantastic when I tasted the ice tea. Wow. Then while I was waiting for the salad they brought a little piece of bread toast with olive tapenade followed by the warmest and yummiest bread. Holy moly. I was in a healthy mood so I thought the salad was going to be blahhh. No no no. Super fresh ingredients and they even make their own dressing! I eat the whole thing and was only half way hungry. If you are looking for a good quality restaurant come to this little treasure. Lastly my server was nice and sweet!

One of my very favorite places in Miami - went here on Saturday night for my birthday dinner. We were a small group - 6 adults, one kid. It was fairly early, but I was surprised how quiet the restaurant was! The menu has changed slightly since the last time I was there and I was heartbroken to find out that they no longer make the homemade corn ravioli - probably one of the best things I have eaten. There was some solace in the corn tamales - just the ravioli filling, but nothing can quite replace the full dish. The owner told us that she makes all of it and there just wasn't enough demand, so please, go to California bistro and request this dish. You will be glad you did! I ended up getting the pumpkin ravioli - still a very solid choice, as evidenced by me all but licking my plate :)

Not impressed with the food and the service was below par comparing for the price you pay for a lunch meal. I would give 3 stars if it was $9.99

Run down place where the people in charge think everything they prepare/serve is delicious, including a pear dessert that I could easily prepare in my house any day of the week after a long long day. I asked for a house Cabernet to wash down my "mouthwatering" dish. The wine was bad so I sent it back. The waiter asked me "What kind of wine would you prefer?" Just bring any red wine in good condition, I replied. He brought me the same bad wine. I gave up.

A little hidden treasure you wouldn't think much of it driving by and to think the food is amazing. I've been coming here since they opened I think it's been about 15 years now and I have never been disappointed. My favorite of all dishes is the chicken picatte with gnocchi in alfredo sauce which are prepared to perfection. but in the mist of that perfection we can't forget the soups of the day which are all made with fresh ingredients either the Cream of carrot or as someone would just think a regular cream of potato soup. But there's nothing regular about any of the food that comes out of the kitchen.

Fave new spot close to home. Everything here is made to order and soo fresh. They make their own bread and is delish. The menu has a lot of healthy options and is vegetarian friendly. The soups are very good, especially the lentin. They will modify any of the dishes upon request. Great place for lunch or dinner.

It's cheap food dressed and described as something more authentic than it is. The menu is a bizarre conglomeration of Tex Mex and pseudo Italian dishes, which all somehow sound similar to each other. Four of six pasta offerings were chicken, which looked suspiciously like the triangular chunks of frozen chicken that come in large bags in wholesale stores like Costco or GFS. The pastas are supposedly homemade. The one I saw did not appear to be so, but maybe the other ones were. Homemade pasta has a certain texture and density to it that's instantly recognizable if you are familiar with it. The burrito was the description of insipid; ground beef, salsa and guacamole... The appetizers and other "Mexican" dishes were all simply different packaging materials for the same salsa, guacamole, and either ground beef or chicken. The burrito and Costco style chicken pastas are all $15 and up. Also on the menu is Swai, a bottom of the barrel fish, similar to Basa or Pollock (which is the kind of fish Wendy's uses). An entire bag of Swai costs $8 retail. It's even lower quality than Tilapia. No wonder it was fried; it's the only way to make swai palatable. Yes, they offer delicious fresh bread, but one small roll arrived for a table of two, which the waiter unceremoniously almost tossed on our table. Splitting that one roll would have been a golf ball sized portion for each of us. Also, it was burnt. If you must go there, order the Margherita pizza. It is outstanding, and at $10, the only reasonably priced item on the menu.

For Valentine's lunch, my friend ordered a ton of different things for the whole family. I have never been to the restaurant, but must have driven by at least 3000 times. Anyway, I was able to taste the burrito-amazing, the tamales-super amazing paired with a side of sour cream and fresh tomato salsa in a vinegary dressing, just delicious. I had the salad with chicken, mandarin, pecans, Apple, and it was really great! When we picked up the lunch order, I met the owners. They are the nicest, sweetest people! I love supporting local businesses. Can't wait to go back and try more things! Oh I forgot to mention that they give the table bread, with this yummy olive spread. Delicious!!!

This place is a hidden gem just outside of Brickell. I've never been disappointed with the food - love the Macho Combo or the California Orange Salad... Do think it's a little pricey for a salad though, almost $20!

I being going to this place for many years and all the food is great and excellent, everything is fresh and daily prep a la minuta. The salads are excelent with a fresh and homemade dressing, made by the owner. The meat (churrasco) is USDA choice angus beef, the chicken has a special marinade with high quality herbs, all the seafoods are fresh, the marinara sauce is made by them because i saw the chef making it a lot of times, is the best salsa in all florida. The good thing about this wonderful place that you can see the kitchen and how they made your food. Nothing frozen, nothing pre-made. The home made pastas are all the raviolis in the menu and the stuffings are made by the kitchen with love. This place is being in the miami area almost 19 years and not to much people know about it. This is the perfect spot for have a great meal like homemade. It sad to hear a bad reviews for this place because is a hidden gem. Try it and you will see. Ask for the specials of the day made by the Chef Vickie. Feel like home in here because as soon as you start going there, the waiter and the chef know wat you usually eat and the things you like. everyone's are great people and great service.

I have been eating at California Bistro for years as I used to live next door to the Bistro. Yesterday I went with my wife and her brothers and my brother in law recommended highly the churrasco. I had never had it there and my brother in law couldn't stop talking about how well it was prepared. My two brother in laws and I ordered the churrasco only to be completely disappointed. All three of our steaks tasted rancid and somewhat past. My other brother in law ordered the chicken Parmesan and it was nothing less than perfect. I will return but I will not order the churrasco again.

The best spontaneous find ever. We were in the car after work trying to think of somewhere new to go to for dinner, and thanks to the magic Yelp gods, this popped up on our "Nearby Restaurants" radar. The cutest garden/homey decor and warm greetings by all the friendly waiters were instantly a great first impression. We noticed there was a sign indicating that the restaurant used mostly fresh organic ingredients, which is a huge plus. Service was excellent, very quick. And they serve fresh warm bread that is made in-house. The menu has tons of options and is divided into a Mexican section and an Italian section. You will not go wrong with whatever you're in the mood for. The chicken tacos, chiles rellenos, and chicken piccata were freaking Ah-maze!!! Can't wait to come here again!

It is hard to distinguish in the mid-range market of bistro/restaurants. There are too many places that hawk for a quick and cheap bite with apparently tasty combinations. The problem is how the actual cooking is: is the ingredient fresh, is the dish loaded up fat, salt and sugar to jack up the flavor? This restaurant is different: the ingredients are fresh, organic, and prepared in the kitchen -- simple breads baked on site, sauces made by Stella (owner) herself, and an impressive range of menu items from green salads to pasta and pizza. One can taste the difference in the food: clean, honest, no cheap tricks to hijack the palates, and actually very flavorful. One can taste the goodness of ripe tomatoes dressed in cilantro and hot pepper, which goes very well with the creamy sweet corns in tamale. Their chocolate truffle dessert is delicious without being overly sweet. Do try out their back inclosed patio -- nice, quiet and tranquil without worrying about the insects from the woods.

Great location on the out certs of downtown miami. The restaurant has a cool vibe, old Hollywood meets the rat pack from vegas. Not to mention, food is great and a large variety of food. A must for locals and out of towners

I have been eating at Fresco for about fifteen years--since they opened. There's actually a small community of neighbors who dine here regularly. We don't know each others' names but we see each other at our "special restaurant" all the time. Stella and Jimmy (owners) have always been quality-minded. They're happy to cook things "my way" and even sneak in an item that's not on the menu once in a while. Eat at Fresco once and you'll enjoy a good meal. Go there a couple of times and you'll likely find yourself on a first-name basis with the staff. We either eat in, dine out, or go to Fresco; it's become a sort of third choice for us where we know we'll be served good food and greeted by name. We're proud to be among the many "regulars" who eat at Fresco. Five stars.

Great place for Italian food!!! The churrasco with pasta in alfredo sauce is the best i have had in Miami! Their alfredo taste fresh and the chicken parmesan with tomato sauce is excelent, different and fresh. Love this cozy place next to Brickell. Perfect for a nice romantic dinner or with friends.

If you're looking for fresh food, come here. Went for lunch with some co-workers that were in the mood for a good salad. Yelp suggested this place, so off we went! Free parking right next to the restaurant in the back. Be careful, it gets packed fast. Ask for a table in the patio area, especially if the weather is nice. We ordered sweet corn tamales with sour cream. These are not your usual Cuban tamales. It is more like a puree of sweet corn, some salsa and tomatoes on the side and a scoop of sour cream. It kicked butt! The serving side is good enough for two. Next we ALL ordered the California Orange Salad. You can tell this salad is freshly made. Consisted of good hearty chunks of warmed chicken breast, , mandarin oranges, avocado, raisins, blue cheese, apple mixed lettuce, candied pecans tossed with their our own special dressing. Good filling portion not to leave you feeling ripped off nor extremely food. Overall the service and food was great. Only concern is the price is a little high for my liking ($15 for the salad). However with food this good I don't mind paying a little extra. Definitely coming back to this place, but for dinner to try some of their amazing pasta selections.

Perfect for a date!! An ex of mine was trying to win me back and he made the right decision to take me to dinner here. It was great. The service was fast, the music perfect and the food was yummy. My only complain was that the house wine tasted cheap and old. parking in the back!

GREAT lunch restaurant. The food is amazing and the prices are reasonable. They have daily specials and the wait staff is extremely friendly and explains the menu clearly. I love the seating since you feel like you are outdoors, but you are in the comfort of AC in the covered patio area. Quesadillas are fresh and made to order. I also really enjoyed a Salmon burger that was on special one day. Oh! and their salads are AMAZING. The parking lot is not ideal, but there is still plenty of parking. It is very near brickell which it makes it convenient to get to during the weekday lunch rush.

I am giving this restaurant four stars, rather than five, only due to the slow service. If I were rating on the food alone, the rating would be a five. We ate there recently and ordered sweet corn tamales, mushroom fettuccine, and pumpkin ravioli. All three dishes were outstanding. The mushroom fettuccine in particular was quite possible the best we've ever had, and we would go back again just for that. The tamales were a nice blend of sweet and spicy, and were very rich. The pumpkin ravioli was very good too, though I would go with the fettuccine if I had to choose between the two. The ambiance is divey yet romantic, if that's possible. It's nice and quiet and the restaurant was filled mostly with couples enjoying a nice relaxing Saturday evening. Unfortunately there was only one server other than the owner, so the service was very slow. I will say, though, that both the server and the owner did their best to timely serve us, and acknowledged that it was slow, and did everything they could to expedite things (apparently one or two servers had not shown up to work). All in all the food was excellent, and was good enough that we would go back again despite the somewhat slow service.

A friend and I were having a girls only dinner and decided to stop in here. We ordered the Sweet Corn Tamales Appetizer. I had a bite and it was delish. I then spooned some salsa and sour cream on my plate. As I was about to take another bite with some salsa, I noticed something that looked like a watermelon seed. Right as I had the thought of watermelon seed, I said, this salsa doesn't have watermelon and upon closer inspection it was a ROACH! The FULL roach, legs, tentacles, and all (not that pieces of roach would've been ok but UGH). I ALMOST hurled! The waiter quickly took the plate away and offered something else but after that how could we eat anything else? We left. "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek Methinks not" is absolutely freaking right! After I originally wrote this review, I read that someone who went yesterday had the same roach problem on a completely different dish...the fetuccini...two completely different dishes have the same bug problem...ummm, you be decide what that means! GROSS!

Incredible! This place is your classic hole-in-the-wall that blows your socks off. The kind of one that you regret writing a review for or telling anyone about. I am such a creature of habit. I tend to order the same thing from each restaurant I go to, however I've ordered something different every time I've come here and it's really out of control! Whenever there is a fish special- ORDER IT Their salads are incredible and the Sweet Corn Tamales App is magnificent! If you haven't been here beware- you'll find yourself here every day.

This place is nestled near I-95. It has some parking in the back but during lunch hours it is a full house. I sat in the enclosed patio area with A/C. I ordered the ravioli with cheese and spinach. The sauce is what set this place apart. It had a very rich taste to it. The portion was average but a little too expensive. The service was very good and polite. Get there early if you would like a taste of thier homemade lasgnia. Overall the menu has many different options for a lunchtime crowd with co workers.

Location Location Location Fresco is in a great location that offers a variety of restaurants that make this corner of the Roads area a little food United Nations Fresco takes it up a notch mixing Italy and Mexico and making something if it were a woman - I'd date it. I'm no " salad eating blah blah blah " but the one here are really good and as man most importantly - they have meat if you want. The Pizza there is also fresh and good - it's light so you can have a few slices since mostly likely you have just come from a kick ass spinning class next door at Sanctuary 7 and need some healthy refueling. And it you need something quick, I can not not recommend the Chicken Sandwich enough !! Soft melt in you mouth bread , with the melting to eat and the tender chicken mixed with olive oil and some magical mexican jumping bean sauce. ( I may have made the magical part up ) But trust me so good and healthy - no need to put any ketchup or mustard - leave it alone. Good patio to eat outside but unlike the other local places you are not facing the street which is a big plus - you've seen on BMW you've seen them all and is more conducive to conversations.

I want to love this place. I want to stay in ignorant bliss and love the cute cozy ambiance and eclectic, creative menu items. Pumpkin ravioli + corn tamales + whatever that mango key lime dessert is = YUM. I've been going here about 3 years, I used to love the little plastic tables and hole in the wall feel with great food and attentive service. The entire vibe was great, from the lighting to the plants to the vinyl table cloths. I don't even know if they really have ceiling fans but in my head I think they do, because ceiling fans are just so homey. Last time we went, I ordered some kind of rosemary fettuccine with chicken. What I got was fettuccine alfredo, with some cut up bland dry chicken, and one leaf of basil on top. My husband was super annoyed that I asked the waiter where the rosemary was, but seriously - I didn't want fettuccine alfredo! I expected rosemary, fresh or dry, permeating the dish if that is what you're going to put in the title. The answer I received from the server was that the chicken is marinated in rosemary. Ok. Well, even if that may be true, then it was drenched in jarred alfredo sauce, so maybe you should rename the dish. I HATE feeling like that complaining customer who everyone, including my date, is annoyed with - but honestly, why should I have to eat something I didn't order? Also, I have to give them a star less just because it seems like every time we go lately they forget an item, or bring the wrong drink, or it takes 20 minutes and three staff members to get some water or bread with that amazing spread they bring out. And we also had to ask like 4 times for them to turn on the lights, since we arrived at sunset and 30 minutes into our meal we literally couldn't see anything. And no, I'm not the pushing 70 with glasses "Turn on the damn lights" lady. I'm in my 20's. They have upgraded their tables to fake wood and they just feel cheap "we are trying to be classy" vs. charming "we don't care about decor, we have good food". I wish they would get their act together and be the little charming place I loved! I want so badly to pretend I didn't just read this roach reviews gaaaaaaaaaaah. How can you ignore something like that? Even if they are totally untrue - how can I eat there again without being paranoid if a roach will be in my corn? Oh my.

One might think Mexico and Italy have little in common. No matter how little that commonality might be there is definitely a complimentary aspect. The merging of two of the world's most popular cuisines is a delicious combo. Parking was easy as usual in this neighborhood as there is plenty of metered street parking (remember when this used to just be free street parking). Better than plenty of parking, there is also a free, private lot adjacent to the restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy, breezy, and sunny. The music reminded me of what I would expect to hear on vacation and I was grateful for that easy listening, The menu had plenty of tempting choices and one might easily over-order which is not a bad thing whatsover. When our server came over he listed specials and I had to go with the special of the day, tilapia with some side pasta. The fish had a little too much sauce, is it possible to drown a fish? Nonetheless it was still good and the pasta was a delicious side dish. I'd recommend sitting on the outside porch and having a leisurely lunch. This is a casually, romantic restaurant. The kind of place you go when you want to an effortless vibe.

Great little spot for a casual cozy dinner. New American style food is fresh, hearty and creative. Decor is kitschy, with lighting that's just dim and warm enough for the space to be almost romantic. Service is a little slow but very friendly and accommodating, so expect to hang out a while and enjoy your meal.

This place was amazing! I went during the lunch rush with a big group. This is a no-frills, enclosed patio dining experience. Sevice was very good, and food was excellent- healthy and delicious! After our meal, the owner, Estella, came over to chat and make sure we enjoyed our food. Free parking in the back of the restaurant, and ample street parking as well.

This restaurant feels like home. On several occasions I have come here and never been disappointed. The atmosphere is one that is tucked away from the hustle and bustle Brickell scene nearby. Yesterday we had a nice dinner that lasted 3 hours no one rushed us out and it was quiet in the way that you don't feel anyone around you. The food is always delicious. They bring out sweet bread and olive tapanade. I had the skirt steak with vegetables and a side salad. All the ingredients were very fresh. My friend had his favorite the chicken piccatta. I also really like the california chicken salad. I recommend a glass of Pinot grigio with your meal and of course the chocolate souffle which I was able to eat all by myself! The parking in the back is free and convenient. You don't have to worry about a meter running out. So check it out you'll be happy you did. It's the perfect place for a little escape from reality!
