This place is very small and all bar stool sitting. When you walk in you mostly see elderly Latino men, whom I imagine are Cubans. It is clear that this place is a touch if nostalgia for Cubans and a little taste of home. With that said, I feel no nostalgia from this place and I didn't grow up on it. So I was not a fan. I had the Frito original and it was horrible. It is some kind of ground meat patty that is very thin. It has onions and thinly sliced potatoes crunchies. I had no idea what the patty was exactly and the flavor was not good. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try something that is so Miami and be invited down memory lane. But I won't be having it again.

I absolutely love fritas! So simple, yet so delicious, fritas are pretty much a perfect sandwich. The beef/pork is seasoned beautifully, and the shoestring potatoes + lettuce + onions all work together to create a perfect bite. Add cheese? Yes, please. As for the location itself, well the service could be a bit better. I've been here a few times to grab a bite before bowling and the service just tends to lag. I'm not expecting them to cook my 4-5 (I told you I love them) fritas in 5 minutes, but I feel like 30 minutes is too long of a wait, especially since the restaurant wasn't filled to capacity. Either way, the food absolutely makes up for the lack of speedy service.

Feeling so Miami at el Rey de las Fritas. When hunger strikes you really can't go wrong with a delicious juicy carb loaded frita. I've tried a few things off the menu and everything has been wonderfully Cuban. The original frita is the best route to go and if you're feeling extra hungry grab a fresh juice or 'batido'. Today I went with the Frita BLT, which is an original frita with lettuce, tomato, and bacon. Along with some awesome mango juice. The only pointer I'll give is that if you order anything with cheese just know that the default cheese here is American cheese. I'm a Swiss cheese girl myself so that's why I feel it necessary to point that out. It's definitely the original frita so if you're in Miami or in the area make sure to try them out.

I love fritas and I was really looking forward to having one. I ordered a frita a caballo which is a frita topped with a fried egg. It was piled high with crispy shoestring potatoes. I took that long awaited bite and it fell so short of my expectations. Wow. I did not even know what I was eating. It was salty and tasted nothing like the frita I know and love. The bunuelos were good. Nice and warm and they syrup was not too sweet.

I love el rey ! Great food. Would have gave 5 stars but i don't speak Spanish so it can be a little difficult to communicate. Those Cuban burgers are so good I crave them and drive from south Miami to bird road just to get them. Try there batido mamey shake its a great combo with a Frita burger. Loyal customer for life !

I pass this place all the time and I have heard a lot about it, so I decided to drop by today after class. The service was good and SUPER FAST (but I did go at like 11AM)! They are definitely up there with McDonalds as far as speed surprisingly. Anyhow, I am a true fast food hater, but this was tasty, I must say. The bun was nice, the crispiness of the cuban style bread actually worked for good in this instance...im not a big fan of it with cuban sandwiches because it's a little too crispy/flaky/crunchy. The flavor on this thing was great! I was tasting garlic, pepper, onion, and tomato flavor explosion. Definitely not anything you will ever be so lucky to get at even the best American fast food joint. Just the same, beware of the sodium lol, if you taste a piece of the patty alone, it's crazy salty, despite how well it works in the sandwich overall. Perfect size to be satisfied, not stuffed. I love mixted textures in my food and this was a great example. The shoestring potatoes were a great addition of crunch. I definitely say the only way to do a frita is with cheese, though. Like I said, I'm not a fast food person, just the same, so I probably won't be back too often, but if I'm ever in a rush and need a bite where there's a location, I'll know it's a safe bed for some cheap goods.

Great Cuban fritas (aka Cuban hamburgers)! This place translates to "King of Cuban Hamburgers" or maybe the Cuban Burger King. I cannot really explain it much, but if you ever had Cuban fast food, you know that many times any fast food sandwiches, hot dogs or burgers comes stuffed with small thin crispy shoestring fries you sometimes see bottled in grocery stores. Well here, those small thin crispy shoestring fries are HOMEMADE and that is what makes this place so unique and special. The flavor really comes out alongside with the specially seasoned ground beef. And the prices in this Cuban joint that consists of only barstools and counters? Much less than 3 bucks for that tasty burger (I believe it was $2.25 to $2.50 each)! You might as well order two if you'll like, and with cheese if you'll like although it has plenty of flavor without the cheese! There's also hot dogs, cuban sandwiches, tropical batidos (shakes), and desserts but I would come here often solely for their fritas! This is a Miami-only chain (3 other locations that I know of) that is great to try out for a bit of Miami Cuban sabor.

You must experience a Frita if you haven't - it's terrible for you - but I guess that's what makes it so good.

I like the mixture of spicy original frita and the sweet malteado shake, it's pretty awesome.

Cheap food but tastes good! It's a very small setup but the service was quick. The waitress was helpful and explained everything on the menu and made suggestions as well. I recommend it for anyone looking for a new spin on a hamburger or cheeseburger or a tasty pan con bistec.

Truly Cuban fast food. The best in town. Milk shakes and fritas, a Cuban version of hamburger

FREAKING TASTY!!!! You certainly don't come here for the service or ambiance, you come here for tasty and flavorful fritas and amazing shakes! From what I understand, a frita is a meat patty made of ground beef, chorizo, and plenty of seasoning. The original is topped with onions and those little french fry sticks everyone loves ;) although there are lots of topping options..bacon, lettuce, cheese, I think I saw an egg, yummy. The kicker? It's all served on a bun made from Cuban bread! Definitely a go-to spot for a quick and tasty lunch. Whee! Kicking off this Friday with a full belly :)

It's a shame we were there two minutes before closing and they turned us down because even eyeball us at guest from out of town after watching the commercial el Rey de la Frits and we are so disappointed they treated us like us secondhand step childit won't get my business looks like they're making enough money I don't need no more customers

Sometimes my little cubanita side gets a major craving for Fritas and I must say the number one spot to satisfy that craving is Rey de la Frita. Place is small and almost always packed hence why I only gave it 4 stars. They do have a small window where you can pick them up to go but my frita tends to never make it all the way home. Parking lot recently renovated so it that's an added bonus. Great Frita with some cheese, jupiña on the side and you have one happy cubanita!

For those of you who don't know the fritas is the Cuban version of a hamburger and I can confidently say that El Rey De Las Fritas make the best fritas in town. I refuse to have them from anywhere else because I know it would only lead to disappointment. Now although I have tried their other meat sandwiches such as their choripan (slices of cooked chorizo and grilled onions on Cuban bread), and their pan con bistec (thin steak with grilled onions, tomato and lettuce on a piece of toasted cuban bread) which are all very good the frita is by far my main reason for going. The frita starts off with cuban bread which is soft on the inside and has a hard outer layer which provides a nice crunch when you first bite the sandwich. Sandwiched between the two buns is grounded chorizo, small diced onions, crunchy potato strings (which can be eaten as chips...they're so good) and a secret sauce that brings the sandwich to life. This coupled with one of their many shakes, whether it be un batido de trigo (puffed wheat shake....sounds weird but it is oh so good), they're chocolate shake, which is a malt, or one of their various fruity shakes (mango, banana, etc) and you can proudly say you've had the Cuban experience. To further contribute to my previously mentioned Cuban experience, the restaurant is small (literally a hole in the wall) with nothing but bar seats, the ladies taking your order are hard working Cuban women who have been running the business for years and although they are very serviceable, don't take them for granted: they are full of Cuban sass and wit. For local Miami-ans and visitors alike El Rey De Las Fritas is definitely a place to visit not for ambiance (in fact, leave all expectations of ambiance behind) but for good quality Cuban food.

Stopped by for a quick drink of water & was intrigued by their menu. So I went in & ordered a mamey smoothie, and a steak sandwhich. Food was great, service was great. Highly recommend it!

This has got to be my favorite place for a quick Cuban snack in Miami . Best Cuban Fritas in town hands down. Frita "Al Caballo" is a must have ( traditional frita topped with a fried egg )

They have the best" pan con bistec" and fritas with sausage. The service is great. The croquetas are always done when you place the order. Their natural shakes are awesome.

This is the reason why we visited Miami - the best damned place for authentic Cuban food. I heard about these Cuban burgers from a friend, who is a native of Miami. There are plenty of meaty sandwiches here, but we focused on the fritas. (Sans cheese, because that just bastardizes the experience and we didn't want to look like newbs!) The ladies who run the place are friendly but sassy and there are to be no shenanigans nor English when ordering. They'll be happy to bring you as many fritas as you want, and they also make some pretty delicious and fruity milkshakes. I hear there are several locations throughout Miami. This location is near a bowling alley and is set up like a diner. There are bar seats only. But who am I kidding? I wasn't there for the seats.

Yes this place is old.. Its not the cleanest.. But sometimes, a girl needs a greasy, delicious frita.. and this place does it the best! thank you el rey for always leaving me with a happy tummy :)

Never had a bad Frita here with cheese. I love their Mamey shakes cause their are made from fresh mamey instead of that frozen kind most places use.

So good the fritas are all chorizo which is the best and they have that red sauce which is amazing when place gets packed no place to sit but hey the fritas here the best better than the others trust me, the batido de mamey is awesome.

Tasty cuban fritas which are basically chorizo burgers. Never had one of these before so I have nothing to compare it to, but I was told this was a staple around the area. I tried one with swiss and another with american cheese, both with onions. I'm not sure I prefered one over the other, but I would certainly come back here.

Listen well, my friends... A frita is basically a Cuban twist on our old friend, hamburger. The twist is that the patty is part ground beef, part ground chorizo... and the whole thing is topped with crispy shoestring potatoes. If that does not sound good to you... then we have differing tastes, and I respect that. Now go stuff a frita in your face and then tell me you don't want to punch yourself in the crotch for doubting the power of chorizo. El Rey serves them up fresh, grilling up your frita right in front of your eyes, and offering a variety of yummy juices to wash it all down with. I personally recommend the very tangy tamarind juice. They also serve up a variety of other Cuban sandwiches, but I'll be too busy eating fritas to ever try them. Sorry, Media Noche. This place is nothing fancy, but it doesn't have to be. I see most people getting their fritas to go... but I like to sit there at the counter and eat mine right off the grill. A great little place I'll be visiting many times.

Stop number 5 on the "Best Frita in Miami" search Not bad, slightly better than El Mago's Frita but still a distant second to Morro Castle The bread was to tough but the potato crisp, onions and the patty itself were really good Even long time fans of El Rey have seen the Frita truth that is Morro So far the ratings go like this Morro Castle El Rey El Mago El Palacio if anyone has a contender that you would like me to check out, tell me

i'm sorry to say, but this is NOT the king of all fritas. so it took a while for us to get recognized despite sitting directly in front of the staff. i ordered a croqueta preparada b/c i was in that kinda mood. it was just ehhh. my mom had the frita, after all, one of us had to try their signature sandwich and i was so disappointed with the taste. the malted milk milkshake was pretty i must say. the overall rating for food + service is deserving of 2 stars. not likely to come back here.

I'm very disappointed! I grew up eating here, and now I'm having to get my order to go cause it's 10:15 and they close at 11pm. The "fritas were cold and they even forgot to put cheese in all of them"! Please, get new staff!

Really disaapointed. Went to eat at el rey de las fritas before going bowling. And it was a little full but, it took us 20 minutes till we left, the lady said to give her a moment each time i asked her to take my order until i got mad and left, never took my order, and was there for 20 minutes waiting. I hope this does not happen again. I know its not her fault but they got to hire more people or fix the problem.

Una frita y una Materva por favor! Oh man, El Rey de Las Fritas is a Miami staple. Eating at one of it's many locations is a must for anyone visiting outside of the state. For those of you who aren't familiar with what a Cuban frita is. A Frita is a the Cuban version of hamburger except that the patty is half ground beef, and half chorizo. It's then tossed on the griddle where special sauce, and onions are added. While the patty is cooking, miniature Cuban bread buns are toasted. Once the patty has been cooked to perfection, the patty is placed on top of the bun, a handfull of freshly fried shoestring potatoes is added followed by the other half of the bun. I'm a classic kind of guy. I like my fritas without cheese. Some folks like it with cheese, I prefer to not mess with something that's already excellent. I like to enjoy my fritas with a Materva, but El Rey de Las Fritas offers a variety of juices that go very well with a frita. Don't have water with your frita. You want to drink something sweet so that every bite of youo frita is something memorable. El Rey offers other things to eat, but let's be serious...you don't go to a frita joint to eat a pan con bistec. Order a frita or go home! There are a million other joints that can make a pan con bistec, but there are only a handful of joints that know how to prepare a frita.

Delicious fritas and croqueta preparada!! I love the little crispy potatoes they put in the sandwiches. Very delicious! This is the only place I go for a frita.
