I'm giving this place 4 stars, because the food and service has always been great. People this is a small Salvadorian restaurant in Little Havana I'm just letting you guys know of hand. The prices are great and the food portions are large. They cook to order, so you are not going to see food under heat lamps. They don't have much tables, but they do have a well spaced counter to sit. I'll give you guys an example about the food, because the picture got erased. Two pork chops with (casamiento rice) their rice and beans mixed and cooked together with a salad $8.75 you can't beat that. I also tried and love the seafood soup with coconut milk in it, you have to tell them to add the coconut milk. The whole fried fish was excellent. To my understanding is that each of their location threw out Miami cook differently and are managed by a different family member. So my review is only for this location. Check out my picture of the seafood soup.

It's your boy's birthday and we were going to stunt hard at Greenstreet. But, per usual, it was as packed as LIV when an overhyped EDM DJ comes to turn knobs for 7 minutes. We opted for some Central American cuisine and my boy took me to this spot. For 1/10th of the price we got a 5 times the amount of food. We definitely got our lean proteins, poly + mono saturated fats, along with a good intake of carbohydrates. For a $10 we ate like kings and were able to keep a sizable amount for leftovers. The food quality isn't on the same level as a "eating house," "green st.," or "swine, but it's still an above average spot. The waitress could've done a better job with supplying us with water, though.

We came here for breakfast but two of us had lunch instead. Sure glad we did! We had fried pork chunks, skirt steak, grilled shrimp, with sides of plantains, yucca, and more. Highly recommend this restaurant for an authentic meal with more than reasonable prices and good service.

This is the place for breakfast! The food is always good, the service is consistent and you can't beat the prices. If I had to improve something it would be their parking and seating. At times it just gets to busy for the amount of tables they have and fir the size of their parking lot. Besides that, I love it!

This was my first interaction with Salvadoran food, my husband has family in El Salvador and was craving pupupas and beans to cure a hangover after tailgating and pooly partying the day before. I can't speak for dinner, we just went for breakfast, but I can only imagine this is as authentic as it gets. We both ordered pupusas and huevos rancheros, and everything was great. The plates come with avocado, beans, queso fresco, sauce and pupusa bread. This is a casual counter / diner situation, nothing fancy, just locals wearing scrunchies and showing bra straps in racerback tank tops while they take down "comida tipica" ....perfect for those mornings when you're up for something new, cheap, and filling but don't really want to break the bank or change out of your pajamas.

This was my first foray into Salvadorean cuisine. I was brought here by an associate of mine that really liked this particular store. Before I go any further, I must say that I have a great disdain for greasier foods and usually stay away from them. These foods were greasy, but I would still go back. My friend ordered all of the food for a group of 7 people. I have no idea what was ordered because my hearing is horrid, I was at the end of the table, and my associate spoke quick and low. Oh well, I can tell you that we had a lot of appetizers. I had never had chicharrones before coming to El Atlakat. They are little square chunks of fried fat, skin, and meat. Tasted somewhat like bacon. They were okay. There was beans. There were chips. There was steak, chicken, and salsas. It was a good time. I wish I was more familiar with what I ate. I could return, but I hope they do something about the poor parking situation.

Hole in the wall joint may see roaches occasionally been told by a good friend but I haven't so far. Best entree there is the sooa mariscada with coconut milk. Very filling soup and definitely delish. Authentic el salvadorean dining as it can be in miami.

I'm a regular at this location but this is the last time I go to this Atlakat... The food is normally awesome but my experience today changed my point of view. Its true what they say about service not that great. I just ordered my carne asada and it was cold told my server if they could heat it up and instead they threw it back on the grill. She came over and gave it to me and went to take a bite of it, it tasted like straight up coal no longer edible. I told her and she didn't do much about it she was just like oh well. I asked if the manager was there she said yeah in the office, I asked to speak to him and then he suddenly "stepped out" and she still charged me for the two strips that I couldnt eat. Not only that my glass was cracked couldnt even enjoy my sunkist. I'm so mad... I probably went on a bad night but they'll never see me again. I'm going to the one on 8 street from now on.

A friend of mine invited me to go to one of his favorite places which he considers a specialty Salvadoran restaurant. Since I am not familiar with this type of food, I was open to his suggestions. We started off with "Pupusas" . This is a soft white corn type tortilla grilled and filled with delicious mouth watering ingredients such as cheese, beans, meat... We had one of each - cheese & 1 with beans & meat. $2.75 cheese one - $2.50 w/meat & beans Served warm with a side of raw cabbage salad. Delicious flavor. As a meal he ordered "Super Antojots Atlakat" - $12.50 - this is a nice size to share platter but it is not for those counting calories! It is a delightful serving of varies fried items, such as Fried Cheese squares (fried to a beautiful golden crunch!), fried pork rins (crispy as can be!) fried yuca, tostones, tacitos, nacho chips with melted cheese, a small platter of re-fried beans topped with fresh sour cream, delicious grilled flank steak pieces, pico de gallo, avocado and raw cabbage with carrot salad. Everything was mouth watering delicious! Unable to figure out what i liked best! this is a very small place packing lots of flavor.

I'm Salvadoran, but I tend not to eat this type of food in general due to how bad it is for your health, but once in a while I will give in to the pupusa!! Great pupusas, a bit pricey from what I'm used to paying, but nonetheless, they are still great! Location is a bit out of the way for me; I'm one of those people who seldom ever goes anywhere west of Downtown. Their horchata is just as yummy! Small location, parking is a bit of a hassle.

Will never again go to this "El Atlakat" on 7th st. The service is not bad but the food is. I ordered the "mariscada" and it was nothing like the picture. There was absolutely no taste in the broth and by broth I mean colored water. I has to add salt, lemon, and hot sauce... Which by the way didn't make a big difference. The shrimp was over cooked and was not cleaned before cooking. The fish was as well over cooked and didn't taste like anything. The banana milkshake was given to me in a foam cup and sent me to the bathroom (both my sister and I) instantly. My mother had fried fish. The only ingredient seemed to be oil. The rice and tortillas we fine but over all, the food was below average and the is putting it nice. I have been to other Atlakats but I have never had such a BAD experience.

Do not miss this El Salvadoran food gem! A bit of a language barrier, but the staff was super friendly. The pupusa was amazing. Fried pork? Killer. Sprinkle lime juice on it. You'll thank me. Ordered the #2. Came with steak, rice, beans and a corn tortilla. Just so good. If you're eating on a budget and want excellent food. Please. Do yourself a favor. Hit this place up. Oh. Unless you speak Spanish, don't bother calling. They'll hang up on you. I learned this...the hard way. Just go.

el salvadorean cuisine, very similar to honduran and guatemalan diner-like atmosphere, maybe a chain? several with the same name this place had the best pupusas i've had so far: chicharron and revueltas great filling the atlakat carne, pollo, camarones basically grilled (flattened) and spiced orden de chicharrones were too fried and dry horchata was perfect still busy and making nice soft moist pupusas the camarones salvadorenos sauce is very tasty and perfect for dipping those tostones. the marisco soup has a buttery coconut milk base

Having already tried some [homemade] Central American food I was eager to try some more! Thus, Ashley took me to this little hole in the wall of a restaurant called El Atlakat. Now, whatever you do, don't judge a book by its cover...or in El Atlakat's case, don't judge their food by their service, outdoor and indoor appearance. The fact that everything was really unassuming made me feel like this place was one of those rare foodie finds. But of course, being in Miami, most people will probably have known about this place for years. But hey, I JUST DISCOVERED it, k? As hinted previously, not much can be said about the service. Most of the waitresses had their eyes glued to the two flat screens showing the latest cheesy 'novella'. Their interior needed work too, and hey what do you know, they were drilling and hammering as we ate! But I digress...this review is really about their food. And oh what little Salvadorian treasures I never knew existed. First was their tamale de elote. A sweet corn tamale boiled and served with a sort of sour cream dollop on the side. Now, let me tell you a little something about me and sweet corn. Sweet corn and I are in love. It started off from that canned variety my mom would heat up with some butter, then with the sweet corn arepas they would serve at carnivals and street fairs [calle ocho], and now this...ah, it was heaven. The next appetizer was their pupusa de queso con loroco and pupusa revueltas. Pupusas are a kind of thick, hand-made corn torilla that is stuffed. Think calzone but flatter. I was quite partial to the pupusa revueltas whereas Ashley liked the pupusas stuffed with cheese better. However, both were really quite good. Honestly, I was quite satiated at this point of the meal but hey, I'm a foodie and I never say no to more food....on to the entrée! We were initially going to go with their whole fried fish, a meal that's eluded me for quite some time. Every now and then when I go to a Latin American restaurant I would look at their fried fish, knowing that its probably really delicious. Then I usually end up ordering something else and then regret it later when I see the fried fish, in all its glory at someone else's table. This was not to be the case here until the waitress told us they did not have any more fish. So we went with the next best thing, their mariscada con leche de coco. We ordered it and said we would like to split it but when it was brought out to us, it looked like the waitress wasn't paying attention because she brought out what looked like two separate orders of the fish soup. Ashley and I weren't sure what to do, but we were up to the challenge and dug right in. Oh, it was like eating the entire cast of The Little Mermaid! It had EVERYTHING in there; fish, mussels, clams, crab, shrimp or prawn (not quite sure) all swimming in a delicious coconut milk based broth. When we received our check we were surprised to find that the waitress did indeed split the soup for us. This got me thinking, who can possibly finish that soup by themselves?! Another thing I noticed was that the check was only 38 dollares, jackpot!

SO GOOD. Stopped here because it was the only restaurant within miles that had a line going out the door. Totally unprepared for the quality and portions. I would have starved myself for three days if i knew that i was going to get a mixing bowl sized portion of the most delicate and coconut creamy seafood soup i have ever had. they must have dump half of the ocean's creatures in that bowl and i happily digested them all! the broth was so good that we got the remainder to go, put it in the cooler and drove it all the way back to atlanta. oh, and we came back the next morning for breakfast before driving home. LOVE. We need El Atlakat in Atlanta ASAP.
