Though this location used to be a Sergio's, I've warmed up to it with time. The wait time is usually not too bad though Saturday and Sunday mornings it can get a little crazy. I've had their breakfasts as well as sandwiches there. I love their fries and the service depends on who you get. Some seem to be distracted while they're serving you while others are there to make you a happy customer.I've been here several times and will probably keep coming back for their yummy Cuban bread they give for free before you order as well as all the cops/firefighters/paramedics that hang around here....gotta love a man in uniform!

Amazing authentic Cuban food! I highly recommend coming here. I've been coming to this restaurant all my life and have never been disappointed.

Great Cuban Food! The shrimp and mango ceviche was really good, but so were the calamari!!! The vaca frita de pollo was really good too and so was the pork chops with gava-chipotle sauce!! This place is a 4-stars on my book, really good Cuban place!! :$

We were in town from California for a cruise. On July 11, 2014, I wanted to try Cuban food for the first time and the hotel staff recommended this place. I was immediately impressed from the looks of the outside. The inside was clean and comfortable and the service provided was excellent. There were eleven of us and each ordered various dishes. All the food was good but the unanimous hit was the vaca frita (shredded beef with incredible flavor). There was pork or beef chunks that was served or ordered as an appetizer. The meat was very flavorful and believing it was pork, I ordered the meal with the pork chunks. Unfortunately, what I ordered was not as good as the appetizer. Due to the language barrier and my belief we may never come back to this place, I did not ask the server what the appetizer was. If I lived near by, this restaurant would be a regular stop for me and I would definitely try other dishes.

Do yourself a favor and really consider the special of the day - especially on Saturdays when they offer Rabo (ox tail). It's a Latin dish that is similar to pot roast....just order it! It's delicious. All their dishes are tasty, cheap, pretty authentic, and typical "Miami" food. Whenever friends or family visits I bring them here. Great family atmosphere, great food, great price...how many more "greats" can I put in a sentence? Whatever time of the day, breakfast (do the Casavana breakfast and split it, it's HUGE) or go for lunch or dinner...you won't be disappointed.

Dear Casavana, I am soooo grateful for you. You saved our lives last night. Neither one of us was in any mood or condition to drive to the Coral Reef location to pick up food, but we were both really craving Cuban. So we decided we were going to bite the bullet, order the food, and make a little adventure out of picking up dinner... However, when I Googled "Casavana" on my phone via text (best service ever!), an additional location that I had never seen appeared. That was THIS location. And not knowing where Mills Drive was, I thought maybe we would luck out and you would deliver! Well, the truth is, you don't deliver to us normally, but since the girl who answered the phone took our order, address, etc, and told us that you would deliver, you came through and honored our order, even after you called to let us know you don't come our way (neither does the Coral Reef location, WTF, FML). Thank you for the outstanding customer service of delivering an order to stick to your word. We really appreciated that hospitality since we didn't want to drive. The food was delicious, as expected, although I found my Sopa De Pollo to be in need of salt. The Pan con Bistec was A-MA-ZING and cooked to my perfection (American cheese, papitas, and cebollitas). And the BF's Croquetta Preparada was DELISH! Thanks again!!! Sabrina*

We were seated right away for brunch, even though the restaurant was packed. The booth was filthy - crumbs everywhere and a slice bacon on the seat??? Not sure how they missed that. Ended up cleaning it myself. Pan con bistec was good, but my pan con tortilla was dry with way too much egg..yuck.The only thing saving me from starvation was the mariquitas and garlic sauce, although delicious, I left unfulfilled.

So Casavana is my go-to place to order breakfast from when I'm having an extra busy morning. I do go there for lunch from time to time as well if I'm craving Cuban food. This location used to be a Sergios and the menu is pretty much the same. Their lunch specials change daily and on Mondays they have delicious braised oxtail. The portions there are humongous so it's usually a good bet to share with a friend. If you're looking for a quick lunch in the Kendall area, this is a good spot. Food is cheap and comes out quick!

What once was Sergio's is now Casavana's! Everything is the same, the decor, the style of cuisine, and some of the waitstaff look familiar, too! For consistently decent, though not gourmet, Cuban cuisine, head out to Casavana's.

This is a good place. Meals are good and at a fair cost. I visit this location 4 to five times a month. Some times I am not treated as a valued customer by the servers. Lately it has gotten extremely loud. They are now playing music loudly which causes the house guess to speak louder and the noise level gets to be excruciating. We complained to our server and she agreed with us and stated she had a hard time taking our order because of the noise level. We requested to speak to the manager but he never visited our table.

Cuban food and I have a love/hate relationship.... I love it when it's good and hate it when it's not. That said, Casavana used to be my go to place for Cuban food but lately something has been a bit off. I'm not sure what it is.... Maybe it's the service or maybe they changed chefs but something isn't right. I love their pan con bistec but the last time I ordered it, the steak was tough and the bread was a tad stale. Yesterday, I went there with my dad and the black beans I ordered tasted like they were straight out of the can. I mean straight of the can. Bleh. I guess for the price it's a quick place to grab a bite when you're hungry and they do deliver to my house. Since I prefer them over La Carreta, I'll give them another try. But maybe in a month or so...

I don't know why others have given this place 3 stars. We loved it! Food and service were great! I am Cuban and originally from Miami. This place serves up the real deal! just like Mom makes! Que Rico!

This is the best Cuban cuisine in Miami. Portions are huge, food is fantastic. Price is very fair. The masitas de puerco are the best I've ever had. No Cuban restaurant in the area comes close to this. Better than Versailles.

If you're looking for a home cooked Cuban cuisine head to Casavana! My boyfriend and I like to head to Casavana for Sunday lunch, we are always seated right away. Food is consistently good and the portions are huge so come hungry. It's great for causal dinning.

Honestly I've had better, after reading the reviews from all the other yelpers I assumed it must be a really goo restaurant. Trying not to be biased as the old saying goes "every dog has its day" ... maybe the cooks were having a bad day, but the food there really wasn't cooked properly at all, on top of that the server I dont know maybe she was tired and pulled an all nighter but heck you can tell she didn't want to be there and gave us a face of death. I'll come back again in a couple of weeks and see if anything changes up.

It's mothers day and we head for a quick bite cuz I don't want to cook. We opt for Cuban food as we don't want to wait eternities else where. This place did not have a waiting line so we tried it out. We get the croqueta preparada, pan con bistec and steak with Moro. The usual garlic bread was provided with our drinks. The food was average, not something I would go out of my way for. Now, service was horrible... Our server/ waitress disappeared into thin air... No water/ soda refills and we had to get ketchup from a nearby table! And the placed was not even packed! Now I know why.... I'm not coming back...

This place was great. Big portions and limitless buttery cuban bread and chicharitas...yum! I only wish there was a place like this in Philly!

This place is AWESOME!!! Sure it's greasy, sure it's not healthy, but that's Cuban cuisine for ya!! The portions are HUGE, the food is great. Living in Miami, everyone talks about La Carreta, but this place totally kills it! My mom used to work at a Cuban restaurant for most of the time I have been alive and this place really reminds me of those times I used to go to the restaurant and eat there. In most other Cuban restaurants they have the Natilla Catalana, which is essentially a Spanish dessert. Cubans have their own version of this, it is simply called Natilla. Theirs is exquisite, that is if you like custard! Seriously awesome Cuban food, awesome service, awesome place!

Your local neighborhood Cuban staple... a definite go-to -place for a quick bite. You're no more finished giving your order than your drinks and the yummy "pan" has arrvied.... you nibble away and blink - and presto - food is there.... and whoa! the food. Two average adults could EASILY share one meal... but why do that when the prices are phenomenal and you can have leftovers for the next day. The service is iffy to start... but become a regular and they'll know your face. I recommend the Baby Churrasco - under $10 - and by all means, ask for extra chimichurri. The Vaca Frita de Pollo is another fave... just like the original but... um, "healthier"? Maybe not but still delish.

Some of the best croquettas in Kendall. My daughter and I come here twice per month, and the pan con bistec is great. The egg sandwich is just gross.

My Hubby and I love this place. We love to come for Sunday Breakfast! The food is great... You can get tostada, cafe con leche, scrambled eggs with ham or bacon, a hash brown and croquetas for 2 people all for under $20.00. The people that work here are so friendly and nice and the service is super fast. You will probably be out in a matter of 30 minutes. I love this casavana and I recommend it to all on a budget with an appetite.

Went here with a buddy over Thanksgiving to get my cuban food fix. I had the chicken milanesa and thought it was delicious and giant! I got 3 meals out of my 12.95 entree. The rice and beans were also very tasty

Yuuuummmm!!!! This place is always packed and for good reason. They have great cuban food at a decent price. What else can you ask for? Oh, and they give good/big portions too.

If you like Cuban food for a reasonable price then you will definitely like Casavana! I love it! The locations are convenient (this one is like a minute away from my house). Its always clean and well maintained! The service is quick and decent. The pricing is very affordable and they can make any changes to your order that you desire - be careful, sometimes they will charge you for an addition and not tell you until you get the receipt! The food is very basic - I have never tried anything more than the beans, rice, chicken breast, churrasco, etc... (our orders are usually simple) The only reason I am giving them a 4 is because last time we were there, the waiter dropped a cup full of iced water on my mom and I noticed they were all laughing in the back so I definitely did not keep quiet and I called their manager over because I thought it was very rude of them! Otherwise, its a quick and cheap option that will definitely taste good!

Love Cuban food. One of many wonderful Cuban Restaurants in South FL. I highly recommend Casavanna. Try the fried plantain chips with Vaca Frita!

  • Vivian Z.

The male attendant or "manager" of this restaurant gives very poor, RUDE on the phone customer service. Do not order from this restaurant if you dont understand Spanish because they have no one on staff that is comfortable taking orders in English. I can go other places and pay a little more but where the service is better and they actually dont berate the non-Spanish speaking customer. Sit down service is better.

As close to authentic home made Cuban food as can be found in a chain restaurant. Huge portions and impeccable table service. Water served within seconds of sitting down. Try going when they have "frijoles colorados" (red kidney beans) something which is hard to find at other Cuban restaurants. The "masa puerco frita" (fried pork chunks) is soft and moist and never overcooked. The basic menu is somewhat limited so always listen for the specials. A great place to bring the family and your "Americanito" friends!

  • Steph N.

I absolutely love this restaurant. The food is delicious, the staff is welcoming and the atmosphere is pleasant. I eat at this restaurant i'd say about every one to two weeks. I have two favorite meals, the Bistec de Palomilla and Masas de Puerco. Both meals are just under $10 and the plate of food that they bring to you is enough for two. They also offer delivery service which is another plus for me when I am feeling lazy or it's raining outside and am in the mood for "take-out". I would highly recommend this restaurant and rate it as one of the top Cuban restaurants to dine @ in Miami.

my family has gone here almost every friday since lila's on coral way closed in 7/06 (after we went there every friday night since '78). my mom & i always have the masas de puerco with rice & beans & tostones (for an additional 50 cents). we split it & i still have enough leftovers for a couple of lunches. i can't believe people eat the whole thing in one sitting--well, looking at their butts i can. anyway, the fries aren't as good as at lila's, & the mariquitas aren't either--they come in some weird mustard sauce instead of just garlic. (OMG lila's mariquitas were SO GOOD.) but the pork chunks are delicious--v tender, & rarely ever fatty, & the onions are better, too. we haven't tried the flan yet. obviously it won't be as good as at lila's but i'm hopeful it will be decent. the service is very nice, & the waitresses always remember our order (not that it's hard) & to bring limes for my mom's iced tea & no "esugar." however, we always eat here early bc if we're too late the screaming brats are too loud. i got takeout once before a flight, & the grease spilled onto my skirt & ruined it, but that was inevitable, & totally worth it bc the food was yum.

Casavana is one of several family restaurant chains in the Miami area. It's actually a spin off from Sergio's, but that's a whole other story. On this particular occasion I stopped by their ventanita for a colada and empanada. And YUM and OMG to both! The colada was strong, dark, sweet and satisfying. My liquid lover....coffee..LOL! Empanada was just the right amount of warmth, seasoning and beef. They don't skimp on the meat here yes!!!!

Why won't Yelp lets us use 1/2 stars??? Whyyyy???? Would honestly rate this place 3.5 stars as an average of all the visits I have had throughout the years. The food is pretty consistent but the service is a complete hit or miss situation. Was here last Sunday at 2pm. My party of 4 was seated immediately but it did take a little while for the waitress to take our order and our water glasses went dry for a while before being refilled. There were also some slight blunders with one of the entrees but it was no big deal (asked for no onions and got them anyway). I really like the breakfast here, which is what I had on this visit, above anything else. For $7.99 (Casavana Breakfast) you get 2 eggs with your choice of ham, bacon or sausage, as well as cuban toast, cafe con leche and 2 pancakes. I don't know about you, but that's my idea of a good breakfast. They say 2 eggs but its really an exaggeration of eggs that they serve you AND its real eggs; not that smooth yellow "eggs in a box" that most diners sell. Everyone in my party was pretty satisfied with their meals and the plates where either, left clean, or had remaining food packed to-go. It got a little weird when they started prepping the area that we were in for a baby shower and our table was the only one left. They were nice about it and told us to take our time but we knew we were in the way of their set up. We ordered Churros for dessert and they were delicious! Hot and freshly fried but they come really thick, not like the thinner ones that most street vendors sell, so they are crispy on the outside but soft in the center. See my pics for the other items my party ordered as well as my own :)

Ok. My love affair with Casavana is officially over. I was at home, sick. Actually, I was home being lazy, but sick sounds more dramatic. We had been out of town for almost a month and was craving a good ole Cuban sandwich. So my husband brought me a Media Noche from Casavana. The first thing that I noticed is that it had shrunk. Not only in length but in "height" as well. First of all, it barely had any cheese and only a sliver of pork. It had a decent amount of ham though. Now, this is where thy pissed me off. The sandwich contained no less than 12 pickle slices and they were SWIMMING in some type of BROWN mustard! Classic Cuban? I think not. I wanted a Media Noche. Not a ham & pickle sandwich. If you're going to bill yourself as Cuban Cuisine, stick to it. Don't go all pseudo-Cuban. BTW, I rarely rate a place 1* but when I have watched one of my favorite places deteriorate before my eyes, it's only fitting.

We had a Cuban sandwich craving. When I say we, I meant my hubs. So we walk to Casavana because it's so close and supposedly good. We get seated and 15 min later, NO SERVICE. Not a hello or a hey I'll be there in a minute. Nothing. There was servers everywhere but no service. So we walked out. As we are leaving, the host tells us "thanks-for-coming-have-a-nice-night" in a hurried and non meaningful way. My hubs is pissed because he just seated us 15 min ago and doesn't even realized we are WALKING out. So we are leaving and see a "food to go" window next door so he orders something to go. I would discouraged him if not for his damn craving. I don't want to give this place any of my money. He bites into his $8.00 sandwich and he says its meh. He could have gotten this in Phoenix. Thanks for nothing. Next time we'll try a REAL authentic Cuban restaurant.

  • Wendy L.

The entire restaurant seems to be filled with local Cubans and our server only spoke Spanish, so it's safe to say this restaurant is pretty authentic if you're looking for some good local Cuban cuisine. I wasn't a huge fan of the buttered toast they bring out in the beginning. The Vaca Frita and seafood special (like a paella) were my favorite dishes here, I would definitely order them again. I've had better Cuban sandwiches elsewhere. The pork chunks were pretty good, just a tad on the drier side. The portions are quite large and you will probably have leftovers. The prices are very reasonable too.

  • Jason A.

I've been coming to Casavana ever since they opened. It's a great spot for when you are in the mood for good authentic Cuban food. Today I specifically came for the Vaca Frita sandwich as it was recommended to me by my coworker. I have to say, I am not disappointed. The sandwich is big enough to share between two people. It comes with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and their famous cilantro sauce. The Vaca Frita was nice and tender and they were generous with the amount of meat, so much, that you can actually taste it in every bite. I really recommend you try it one day. They offer a wide variety of cuban cuisine and the portions are always very generous. All the food is reasonably priced. It is also a great place to come for breakfast. They always provide very fast and friendly service. I definetly recommend this establishment.

Ended up at Casavana for dinner after searching for a local cuban place on my yelp app. My Uncle was staying at the hotel adjacent to the restaurant and was craving his once a year cuban feast. We arrived at about 6pm and the restaurant was pretty full. Which tells me the food must be good. We got seated immediately and water was already poured in our glasses. The bread was super buttery and crunchy, just how I like it. A star just for the butter dripping down my chin when I took a bite. The sangria was ok. Nothing extraordinary. Just ok. I've had better. The food was really really good. Between all of us we ordered the palomilla, pollo a la plancha, breaded steak, churrasco and the special which was the yellow rice with seafood. All were delicious . The only reason a gave a 4 vs 5 star is because the breading on the steak was disproportional. I really dislike when you cut the steak and the breading just falls right off leaving you with a plate of steak and pieces of breading. That's a no no. Other than that everything was great.

  • Stephanie P.

I have to agree with other yelpers, As Sergio's continues to grow and progress, Casavana becomes poorer and poorer in both service and authentic Cuban cuisine. I have experienced slow and rude service, disgusting bathrooms and mediocre food. Over time I have noticed this has not improved. To be completely honest, there are so many Cuban places to eat around here it's a mystery why Casavana is still holding on. The window is fine when you need a coffee, but be prepared to wait for it. Typically not even the aloof window girls get it right.

Wow!!! When I first moved to Miami from Charlotte, I was absolutely blown away by how many Cuban spots there are in Miami. I'd have to say that this place is by FAR the best! Greatest prices, plus best food! Their cheese flan are out of this world!

  • Julie M.

This place gets pretty packed on Sunday mornings. During lunch time there is rarely a wait, but the food might take a little longer. Breakfast is usually very quick, and the coffee is always fresh and hot. The scrambled eggs have a tendency to run a little on the watery side, but if you tell them you want them dry they follow it well. Very reasonably priced, and portions are always big. Amazing croquetas. We're regulars here and although some visits are better than others, it's never really been bad.

  • Carlos O.

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!! Went in on my lunch with my family. Sat down for 20 minutes without an acknowledgement from the staff, not even water. Tables around us were already getting served even after we had been there for quite a while. Once the wait staff told the waitress, she said out loud she was not going to help us, but she started helping a table who literally has just sat down. Unprofessional staff and restaurants are supposed to encourage customer service. This is how restaurants close. Be sure i will tell everyone i know to not go to your establishment. To go across the street to La Carreta! I went to La Carreta about a week ago and our table of 6, ordered, ate and paid in about 30-40 min! 20 minutes sitting was a waste of my lunch and a waste of time.

    (1)
  • Frankie C.

Okay, so the food was really good and the people are friendly. But the main reason for these 3 stars is the fact that their service is HORRIBLE! I was waiting at my table to be attended to for 33 minutes. We hadn't even gotten the bread. Don't let the friendly demeanor deter you from the fact that the service is horrible.

  • Peter P.

This is a great place to order a real Cuban breakfast or to just stop by and pick up a quick cortado. I focus on the breakfast because, for the price, it's tough to beat on a lazy Sunday morning. The 'Casavana Breakfast' is a great bang for your buck, but the tortillas are great too! Tough choices! I like choosing the ham and just adding bacon on the side, the ham is a thick cut slab and you can't complain about that. They have a side window too if you're just in the mood for a quick empanada or croquette and a coffee. It's not out of this world, but it's a solid choice for a well-priced Cuban breakfast.

Many years ago when Sergio's Restaurant used to occupy the locale; I was a fan of their delicious Cuban cuisine. When Casavana moved in, I did not want to visit the place... silliness ... I went last week and it was awesome. The fried fish fillet with moros and mariquitas were to die for, customer service A-1 and peaceful environment. Definitely will go back.

During a shopping spree at Town and Country, we needed to refuel. The hubs and I split a Cuban sandwich (have you seen those things? they're as big as I am!) and a few croquetas. The sandwich was good, by all comparisons like your average Cuban sandwich period. Hearty, slightly greasy, thick bread. You know the drill (and if you don't, please do find out). The croquetas were lukewarm and a little too dry. I prefer mine a tiny bit more saucy and nice and hot. My biggest issue, which unfortunately happens more often than not in local joints -- is when I ask for my coffee without sugar (both in the milk and coffee). I know Cuban coffee comes with sugar, so I make sure to specify in both. See, my hubs is a type 1 diabetic, I'm not just trying to be a pain here. So I always sample his drinks to make sure there's no sugar in them. I had to send it back as I expected, it had sugar in it already. I always get the look of "a little sugar won't kill you". I'm used to it by now. So please, all my diabetic Yelpers out there, always make sure to specify your sugar requests at local joints in Mia.

Waitress sucked but food was great! Appetizers were good, we had masas de puerco which were not overcooked and best flan ever for dessert. Can't wait to come back!

The best thing about this place is that they know how to make some good cuban food. It isn't styled different. It isn't modernized. They also don't skimp on the sizes. Some of these entrees can feed a small village for like $9. But, if you're in Miami and are from Miami...most likely you either have someone at home that can make the same meal or can find 100 other places to make the same meal. That isn't saying something bad about Casavana because I've been here countless times. I've continued to come here because it's so close to my house (convenience) and because they haven't let me down (consistency). I would recommend the Batido de Trigo, pan con bistec, or the bistec empanizado.

  • Jessica G.

I actually used to stop here every morning to get empanadas, croquettes, toast, or OJ but I won't be stopping by any longer. This morning I stopped and ordered "Una tostada y dos croquettas." After waiting over 10 minutes and wondering why it took so long I was charged over $5 and what I got was a bread with the 2 croquettes stuffed inside. And to make matters worst no butter on the bread. Now, I'm not one to complain but working in the food industry I repeat orders and ask for clarification before I assume anything. As petty as it sounds, I was highly disappointed. She was more concerned about the cops and their orders then what I was ordering. You definitely lost a customer.

Overall good experiences...and we've come here a lot! My husband, son and I all share the Casavana breakfast and it is plenty for all 3 of us. We just get extra cafe con leche since it only brings 1. But for $8 you get toast, cafe con leche, 2 pancakes and eggs with ham or bacon. Sandwich wise we like the Miami sandwich. Yummy! Service is great sometimes and so so others. We've been in and out of there and have had to wait long for either the food or the check because our waitress was nowhere to be found. Not much English here.

"She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid." - Han Solo If you're looking for Cuban food in Miami and you walk into a restaurant and you have the only white face, you know you're in the right place. Casavana ain't fancy. When your food comes out, you'll be like, "Is that all?" But then you'll taste it and you'll shut your insolent mouth. I ordered the churrasco - a big, lean steak. It came with fries, rice and beans. All of it was just simple and great. Also, their sangria was possibly the best I've ever had. Our server seemed fairly indifferent, and the atmosphere is straight-up Denny's, but the food carries the day at Casavana. I'd happily go back. ** Note, if you're trying to find this place, it's tucked away off the main drag in a strip mall.

Everything I've ever ordered is delicious! We've experienced everything from great servers to not so great servers, but the food is worth it. The servings are big enough to share on most plates and prices are reasonable. I highly recommend this place.

I noticed after a couple of months of not visiting that the service staff was not of any help. It was obvious that the place was under new management and or new owners. I had heard that a fellow dinner had been there shortly before and the food quality and service was very poor. Stay away don't be disappointed if you know how Cuban food and service should be.

Earlier this year I visited my Daughters down in Miami. The first night I was there I was treated to a nice meal at the Casavana. Being of Cuban descent, I was raised on this kind of food. The portions are ginormous and authentic. The food is superb and served with care by the excellent staff. It reminded me of my mom's gotten cooking. I had the steak sandwich with French fries but after seeing what everyone else had I played the "I shoulda gotten what you got" game because everything looked great. The sandwhich was so large, I had to save half for later. The prices were reasonable almost diner rates. The atmosphere is pleasant and they don't shove the Cuban angle down your throat. I recommend this place for families and couples; you will be pleased.

Delicious, big portions, inexpensive. Take out takes a little longer than I would expect, but you can always call ahead and they'll have your order ready to go.

Their food is better than Sergios and larger servings as well. CHURASSCO STEAK WAS AWESOME. Pan co. Bistec is great too. Recommended highly if you want good Cuban food can't go wrong price is good too

Definitely top 3 Cuban restaurants I've ever been too! Love the food here, the portions and price! Service is really fast and very Cuban! I love it! Super fire!!!

Service was pretty fast. We had breakfast, simple easy and delicious. We were happy with everything. We had a fried egg with bacon. They gave us more bacon then Expected. Cuban toast came with our meal. Perfect simple order. Ill come again for breakfast.

Somewhat good food but horrible service, we sat outside because it was packed inside, bad decision. We waited forever for a server, she was nice but not very skilled or trained. It will be a long while until I return. Plus, 11 food violations...I feel sick already!

This spot just keeps it simple. They stick to what they know and what they're good at. So I stroll in on what should have been a super crazy day, since it was Mother's Day and find the staff more than happy to seat me, actually we were a group of 8 in total. Well, we didn't wait but 2 minutes and got to business. Cuban food isn't for lightweights, so we got an assortment of goodies and were glad have made the choice to go in the first place. Doesn't dissapoint, at least when you know what tomexpect.

I have been coming here for almost two years now. And this has been the only place that in my opinion has the best empanadas. Not to mention the jugo de sandia is yuuummmy!

I have had the churassco, vaca frita, and palomilla here. The meat is always cooked as specified and flavorful with the seasoning that is used. The sides are amazing as well. The croquetas here are some of the best in Miami. I come here for lunch all the time, they have great lunch specials. I recommend the pan con bistec or the medianoche sandwiches. Overall great food and great service, highly recommend this place.

I never go wrong with Casavana food. I usually go to the one in Miami lakes but this one is as good. My favorite meal here is the churrasco. For lunch I like the cuban chicken wrap. The wrap has everything you can dream off inside. Beans, plantains, chicken and much more. The cilanto and garlic sauce is amazing with some Marquitas

The quality of the food and service has really gone down. I'm a frequent visitor to this restaurant regardless cause it's fast and usually descent, but the last time I ordered food to be delivered to my school because I was too much into my studying, will probably be the last of me supporting this restaurant. Delivery guy was so UNBELIEVABLY RUDE. I missed his 1st phone call and I got the biggest bitching. So unnecessary rude, sorry I was washing my hands, geez. I even called the restaurant to tell them how rude he was and he'll be the main reason why I won't be returning. This place is slowly going down the drain

Huge cuban restaurant that can give La Carreta a run for its money. Cuban food is pretty standard and they make it just right at great prices. The one leg up they have over La Carreta is that they are not stingy with the white rice and black beans...thank the lawd for that!! Chuleta de Cerdo - this one is topped VERY heavily with sauteed onions Fried Pork Chunks - cooked perfectly without being dry, considering how thick the pieces are Churrasco - again, how can you go wrong here? Cooked perfectly and you get a huge piece for $14.95! I just wish it wasnt so far away or I would be going more often!

I had a really good service in this place, great food fast service. I recommend a Spanish sausage omelet for breakfast and a traditional Cuban coffee milk. A+++ for this place.

Ate there today, the pork chunks were tough and burnt, even though I asked the waitress to make sure the order didn't include burnt pork chunks. The food was mediocre but the service was terrible. The waitress could care less, she was missing the entire time I was there. Stay away from this restaurant, there are better Cuban restaurants in Miami. Actually, this one probably one of the worsts.

Clean = C Fast Service = B Good Environment = B Food = D When I got their, the table was all sticky... Yup... Not clean Waiter was nice Environment is OK as it's pretty small and to close to each other... Pretty annoying to hear everyone's life DO NOT GET THE GRILL CHICKEN BREAST WITH "MANGO" SAUCE The chicken is not chicken... It's a rubber chicken breast... That's exactly how it tasted Will I take my family? No Will I be back? If I'm starving

Worst "Cuban food" ever! My coworkers and I used to order from here 2-3 times daily and they have progressively gotten worse. We ordered egg whites and got eggs with yolks, batido de trigo looked like water with cereal flakes, they dumped a huge amount of sugar in the cafe con leche. If you want better Cuban food and service I've had a better experience at Sergio's. Even the delivery guy from Casavana was rude. I don't recommend this place to anyone the food is horrible, even if the food was free I wouldn't eat it. My 5 year old makes better breakfast than they do.

Wonderful Cuban cuisine. Huge portions. Reasonable prices. I read the yelp reviews to determine what I wanted to order. My fellow yelpers did not steer me wrong. Located at the Palms Town & Country shopping center.

I wanted to give Casavana a good review after saving my hungry ass last night. I called them to place an order for delivery. The guy who took my order was really nice. I ordered chicharron de pollo and a cafe con leche. It got here quicker than I expected and I gave the guy a nice tip since it was still raining a bit, for his troubles. Casavana's dishes are huge though, you can definitely eat twice or share with someone else. I had dinner last night and the leftovers were today's lunch. Delicious!

I love the Cuban chicken wrap here as well as the palomilla! The food is cheap and tasty, and simple Cuban food. I also come for cortaditos from the window for a quick pick me up. The restaurant is clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

  • Michelle M.

I love this place for breakfast!! I'm a big Cuban breakfast buff and this blows La Carreta (which has been dwindling in quality) right out of the water! The price is exactly what it should be for Cuban food in Miami!

  • Joseph S.

The food is always consistent, hot and well seasoned. Although pricier than most cafeterias, some Cuban places dont measure up to Cuban grandma style cooking, but Casavana does well. Cuban chickenwrap and the vaca frita are my regular orders. Fast simple and consistent... Thumbs up.

Had breakfast on saturday morning here the service was fast. I thought we would have to wait long to get our food but, within 10 minutes we had our food. My daughter wanted pancakes, they were good but, not as good as ihop. Over all, I would go back and have lunch instead of breakfast.

This place has a nice environment but that's where it ends. The service was subpar and barely around. The food was bad. I had a pork sandwich that had barely any taste to it. The amount of pork was minimal with some sliced onions on it. The bread was very generic. The beer selection was as pedestrian as you could get so I ha no beer. I just drank A water. There was no effort by the server to ask if I wanted more water or to just refill the glass. There were not many customers there and I can now see why. How people give this anything but one star is beyond me.

Pack a restaurant full of Cubans & the outcome is a complete rumpus! Lol. This definitely isn't the ideal quiet "date spot", but the food is good, the prices are inexpensive and you receive quality service. We ordered the beef tostones relleno for an appetizer. I was a little disappointed that the beef didn't come in una salsita roja and topped with cheese, but it was still very tasty. For the entree, my girlfriend and I decided to share an order of the chicken "vaca frita" with a side of white rice, black beans and platanos maduros. All was to our liking with the exception of the black beans, which tasted like a cheapy can brand. En general, nos fuimos con las barrigas llenas y nuestros corazones felices!

I work close to this place so I come here often and I must say that they have never disappointed. The service is excellent and the food is fantastic. Generous servings for a great price. Vaca Frita (available every day) and Oxtail (Monday Special) are two of my favorite dishes.

Normally I would give nothing but good reviews for this place, but today was a day of reckoning for this once well known great customer service location. Being father's day I understand it gets chaotic but that does not mean treat your customers like crap. First we are walked to our table outside, where we waited 20 minutes for our waitress to take our order and give us a cup of water..then another 20 minutes to get our coffees. At this point we were a little disappointed with the service but understanding that it was father's day...but then...other customers were sat next to us and what do you know 20 min. later they got their food while we were still waiting for the toast to come to have with our coffee let alone our meals. At this point we haven't seen our waitress since she brought the coffees over 20 minutes ago. Furious and hungry we asked to speak to the manager who informed us that he is trying to figure out our table number to resolve this.....at this point one has to stop and think...1.This guy is running the place and doesn't know the table numbers...WTF. 2. The manager admits there was a problem....so to understand his state of mind he rather have the customer reach a point of anger and risk losing business than simply taking 30 seconds to go to their his customer's table and advise them of the delay. Bad business skills if you as me. I really hope the Casavana owners reconsider their hiring skills and type of managing staff they want running their restaurant. Sorry to say but this is one restaurant I will not return to with the current staff still working there. Sad day for Casavana.

Considering there are about four other Cuban restaurants in a 2 mile radius, you'd figured they'd try to get orders correct or at least be pleasant and courteous when you call them on it. Well, it's not the case. Anything can happen once but when it continues happening I think it's time to call the one a couple blocks away.

Decent Cuban Food in Kendal. I came here for dinner and place was empty. The restaurant is big and the staff is friendly and fast. The food came out quick and tasted ok. The bread is good. We had a plantain soup which my mom liked. The chicken and churrasco were ok.

Ok, so the plan was to have breakfast and do some shopping for New Year's Eve party. There are only 2 breakfast places at the town country/palms mall and Casavana was the first one we chanced upon. The other one was Corner Bakery ( I will def go there next time). So Casavana is a nice restaurant with super nice servers and a nice calm decor. The food arrived so fast it was unreal! Eggs were a bit on runny side but that was my fault for not telling the server how I wanted my fried eggs (but, she should have asked). No sides of potatoes or hashbrown a unless you pay extra. But I have to have a side so I ordered the grits. Oh boy! Big mistake; the grits were SUGARED! Yuck! Big nono. Sugar container was not pourable so we had to be creative in shaking and shaking the thing. My daughter ordered ham but it came in big fat chunks which she didn't like and ended up ordering a side of bacon. Overall, I was not impressed enough to want to go back for breakfast.

I use to come here a lot when it first opened, but lately, it has been hit or miss. Today, it was one of those miss days.... I have experienced MUCH better from them...I don't know what is going on but it seems they are becoming like a cuban fast food chain. That delicious taste I remember is gone.... Today, my food was totally over cooked and tasteless! Even the bread kinda tasted old...Not to mention that the server took a while to take the order...(and it was pretty empty) and she didn't check back until she gave us our check. I hope they go back to how they use to be, because I wont be returning...

I have been going to this restaurant for years. I had actually rated it 5 stars at one point. Lately it's been on a downward slump. First the service was going bad. Then they just stopped caring how the food was prepared. At one point we were getting toast that wasn't even toasted. Until one day My wife ordered a breakfast sandwich and the bread just didn't look right. When she turns it over its full of mold. Just disgusting. Of course I didn't pay for the meal and that was the last time I will ever go there. It's a real shame because this used to be a weekly spot for me. Ever since management changed everything changed for the worse.

Yelpers....get a grip...this place stinks!! Why would you give this place 4 & 5 stars?? I foolishly believed you. My reward?? I'm out $30 and went home hungry. First of all I am aware that Cuban food is comfort food. I'm not expecting gourmet meals when I decide that this is where I want to eat. I'm expecting my grandma's cooking. Ok to be fair the bread was good. I ate multiple pieces. But the entree?!!? I ordered boliche and they brought me mammoth shoe sole. EwwwwWWw!!!! What is that? So i told my waitress and she was like "oh you don't like the wine sauce??" No I don't like monstrous slabs of crappy cuts of meat in a yellow tint sauce. Wine I like. 20 minutes later she comes back w/ my replacement, a palomia. In all fairness it was good, I ate it but its a palomia. If you can't make a decent palomia you have no business being in the kitchen. Other annoyances: My waitress was a dunce. I'm already annoyed by you and the food, so do you have to stand under the tv watching your telenovela?? WTF? Bring me my bill!! Verdict: Never again! Major Dislike button!!!

Fast service and nice waitress. The food is good and the portions are really big. Some dishes were delicious (try tostones rellenos) and some others just good. The place was full and a bit noisy.

Take out review: horrible. Waited almost 30 minutes didn't get called and than when I get it it's only one sandwich. I called and asked for a refund. They didn't even allow me to keep my food as an apology. The woman at the take out returning my money couldn't have more of a nasty attitude. Not coming back ever. Better places with better service sorry you just lost a customer

One thing first. People need to get a handle on the Star-rating system. 4 stars (Yay! I'm a fan) is for places that are above the ordinary but not the best of the best. You cant just throw stars around like you are a freaking ninja. Having gotten that out of my chest, on with the review. As I have stated in other reviews, Im very critical of cuban food places. Although I have try good cuban food in different restaurants, I think that those people who write reviews saying "the best cuban food I have had" have never eaten in a true cuban house. I went for a Sunday early dinner. The meal started, as usual in any cuban place, with a basket of bread slathered in butter. They use a sweet roll so the bread is softer than your regular cuban bread. For appetizers we had the shrimp ceviche and the fried calamari. The ceviche was ok, not overpowering taste but nothing to wow about either. The fried calamari was really good. As a matter of fact, probably one of the best I have tried. In most places you get really thing cuts of calamari and big chunks of batter, here it was all the opposite. Huge pieces of calamari in a light, crisp batter served alongside a garlic sauce that I ended up scrubbing with the bread. This was the highlight of my meal. For dinner we had the chicken vaca frita with the usual (rice, beans and maduros) and the pork chops in guava-chipotle sauce (a new item in their menu) with veggies and mashed potatoes. The chicken vaca frita was good as well as the beans. The pork chops were very good. The guava-chipotle sauce was delicious, but then again Im a sucker for anything with guava. The mashed potatoes was good and the veggies were tender. For dessert we had the dulce de leche bread pudding. Putting my infatuation with desserts aside, this was pretty good. This place is good. No 4 stars good but yes 3-31/2 stars at most. This place is a solid cuban food restaurant. This is your 250 AVG-20HR-80Hits type of place, your 15points-8rebounds-4assits type of place. Ok, enough with the sport analogies, Im sure you get it by now. Notice I did not mention service. That,s because there is nothing to mention. Service was, once again, 3 stars good. The lady brought bread took our order, brought water, brought food, brought dessert, brought check. Nothing less nothing more.

One word: Cheap!!! I just can't tell you how convenient it is to come here early in the morning for a quick simple breakfast. Staff is friendly, but none seem to speak ANY English...the food comes out super fast, and we have yet to have any issues with wrong orders. Here's why I love coming here with my girls early...the cops and firefighters are always there!!! HA! Good food...plenty of eye candy...super cheap= Win/Win!

  • Richard N.

The food was good but you can get much better Cuban food in Miami. It was also more expensive than most other Cuban places. It wasn't expensive - it was just more than the average Cuban restaurant. I have to agree with the other reviewers that the place was filthy. I sat in a booth and I doubt if anyone had swept the floor all day. I won't go back. I've done a lot better at other places.

Authentic Cuban Cuisine...in a strip mall. Casavana is located where the Sergio's used to be in the Kendall Town & Country plaza. Parking is plentiful and the place is very clean and very nice. The staff is extremely friendly, but more so if you know Spanish. Tried the Churrasco Platter with White rice and beans, and yucca frita. The Churrasco had a wonderful flavor, but the Chimichurri was pretty much nothing but oil. The sides were good too. My mistake was not getting their breaded (insert meat here). It seems as though anything breaded comes with a huge portion that overlaps the plate. They also come with 2 sides and go for around $10-12. Portions are always big at this establishment. Also tried the Miami Sandwich and the Cuban Sandwich. The Miami Sandwich was great. They essentially quarter the sandwich for you so it looks like 4 normal sandwiches. The Miami Sandwich is everything a man needs. It has ham, turkey, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Sandwiched between two pressed buttery slices of Cuban toast. The same goes for the Cuban Sandwich which has pork and ham with swiss cheese. They are no more than $7. (Though I wish they came with fries...) Good place. Nice ambiance. Lots of locals come here to eat and large families too. They have plenty of room so there's no need to worry. Be sure you get some basic Spanish down. If not...bring a friend who knows Spanish and tell them you wanted to enjoy their company. Even if you are lying and are just using them...

*EDIT 4/11/2015* Something has happened to this place since the time I reviewed it. Apparently, this place has changed owners and the changes are extremely noticeable. While the portions are almost the same, the quality of the food has dipped dramatically. This is not the Casavana I remember. Food taste is very mediocre now and I'm on a quest to find a new favorite Cuban restaurant. OLD REVIEW BELOW: This is my favorite restaurant in Miami and the reason is simple; they take care of you here. When you first arrive, the staff is friendly, and is quick to seat your party. A basket of complimentary hot delicious bread and glasses of water arrive soon afterward. You shouldn't have to wait too long for your waiter or waitress to take your order. I usually tend to order the pork sandwich and it comes out great. However, the chicken vaca frita and churrasco are good as well. One thing to note is that the portions of this restaurant are simply HUGE. I always manage to take leftovers home for lunch the following day. I'm really surprised that the food is relatively cheap considering the amount that you get. The only thing that I didn't particularly like was the breakfast, but then again, I prefer coming here at night for an amazing Cuban dinner. TLDR: Fast service, Good food, Good prices. You can't go wrong.

Very dissatisfied with the service today! I've been coming here for over 13 years and today's experience has left me totally upset. It may have been he worst waitress ever but it reflects the whole restaurant. Sat for almost 10 min before finally being attended, food took forever and saw my sandwish sitting for about ten minutes, took just as long to get my check. Must have been the waitress as the people that sat next to us got their order and food within 10 min. Regardless going to give this place a rest!

Their Vaca Frita is a contender for "off the the chain" recognition. But the rice and beans are just average. Their Cuban Sandwich is average for Miami standards; off the meat rack in any other part of the country. But in Miami, it takes some extra oomph to earn the "off the chain" recognition. The kitchen is quick but not as quick as Versailles on Venice Blvd. (Los Angeles) The restaurant has the feel of a chain, but I haven't seen any other restaurants with the same name during my travels throughout the Miami suburbs. And the prices are just a tad on the high side, but not so much that you'd notice. The local shops have been renovated, so don't be afraid to take a post-meal stroll to burn off a few calories. There's also a take-out window and outdoor seating for those that like to kick with their compadres. A decent spot overall...

Having a craving for some fast, cheap and delcious Cuban food then get your ass to Casavana asap. I absolutely love this place.. the service is always good and the food is even better. The location is in the far corner of town and country by the kohls so you'll probably have to look for it.

I have ordered delivery from here on a number of occasions not because it is that good, but truthfully because it is the only Cuban restaurant that delivers in my area. It had been a while since I last ordered from Casavana because each time I do, I am less impressed than the time before. I can't think of one single time when I ordered food from Casavana and actually received exactly what I ordered in a timely or tasty fashion. I suppose that considering the disappointing track record, my ordering from there again is a sign of me being a glutton for punishment but the truth is that my better judgment last night was temporary clouded by a persistent hangover and rainy, lazy day that spawned an irresistible craving for Cuban food and thus led to me giving Casavana one last try. As usual, the delivery took nearly an hour so the food was bordering on cold despite the fact that the restaurant is less than 10 minutes from my house. I ordered a bistec de pollo empanizado (breaded chicken steak) without onions and instead received an unbreaded, tiny piece of chicken with a mountain of onions piled on top. I know better than to call and complain since I've done this many times in the past and it has been a mostly futile endeavor that requires enduring even more unreasonable wait times and often only leads to further aggravation. Last night's fiasco was the final straw for me. I can no longer pretend that I have a Cuban food delivery option in my area since Casavana is clearly not cutting it. Next time the craving for this type of food strikes, I will need to suck it up and either drive to a better restaurant or head down the street and ask my Abuela to hook it up with some of her home-cooked Cuban goodness. I have dined in at Casavana maybe twice since it opened and while their in-house service was certainly better than their delivery service, the food didn't ever make it into any "wow" categories for me or anyone I've dined there with. My personal favorite spot for Cuban food in Miami (aside from my Abuela's cooking of course) is a place called Rio Cristal on 98th avenue and Bird Road. Their food and service knock Casavana right out of the water; it's just too bad they don't deliver!

Great service and excellent tostones appetizer! We has vaca Frita and their homemade rice and beans. Very tasty and awesome proportions. Restaurant was clean and very Cuban feel. They did not have any lemons which was weird; we like them in our water. Plus our waitress was great but not the fastest on the small things like refills.

Cheap, delicious and delivery so fast it makes you wonder how they do it. We order Casavana on those nights where cooking is just not going to happen. They are conveniently located like three miles from us -- I can't really ask for more. When I call their staff is friendly and they have yet to mess up an order. On top of that, delivery has never taken more than 20 minutes and that's during peak dinner hours. Their food is tasty as far as your fast food Cuban goes and their prices are rock bottom cheap! As my homegirl Jessica would say they fall into the bueno, bonito and barato category.

The place is sloppy, loud, has dirty floors and poor menu selection. Indifferent welcome at the door, waiters spill stuff. No daily specials like most Cuban places. It's in a boring mall. One block to the south you have La Carretta and a few blocks north, Las Vegas Cuban, both far superior.

I've always like the Cortaditos here and the empanadas are actually really good too. The food at the restaurants itself is not bad either. Not my first choice for lunch or dinner but for coffee I really like it.

This is a popular place to get together for a big group (~10 people) for breakfast - Cuban American style. It seems that it doesn't get crowded in the morning, so you can enjoy yourself without getting too overwhelmed in crowds. The food is decent and generous. I normally order 'el tradicional' which includes eggs (the weak spot - they seem to over-cook them), meat (choose the ham - it's grilled, crispy, and delicious!), bread (Cuban bread, of course), and cafe con leche. Very inexpensive for what you get. The place is hard to find, since it is way in the back of the Town and Country Shopping Center, and not visible from the main streets.

Not sure what happened today the food and service are usually spot on but today Sunday the 27 they completely dropped the ball over one hour for breakfast and wrong dishes served water not refilled they even got the toast wrong . I hope they correct this if not they lost another patroon they did try to make up for it though they discounted my meal .
