Great cheese steaks. Great fries. Great service. Not so great to look at from outside. Has to be the best cheese steak in south Florida. I like them so much that I never order anything else and I normally do not like ordering the same thing every time I go somewhere. Try their hot sauce on every table. SPICY but tasty.

To continue my journey to find a decent hot sub place I decided to check this place out in hopes that it was everything I've heard it to be. At 1 pm on a Sunday the place was empty. You walk in and theres a funky smell in the air. Me and my fiancé ordered Philly cheesesteaks mine on Texas toast his on a sub and a couple of drinks and an app of corn nuggets was almost $40!!!!!!! Not to mention I ordered bacon on mine to only find a tiny square of bacon, and ordering bacon on both of our sandwiches is an extra $5! If you're looking for a hot, inexpensive lunch I'd recommend a fast food joint over this place. Save your money and appetite!!!

Hands down the best Cheesesteak around. No questions asked, just got try one and I guarantee you'll be happy. I even enjoy the chicken Philly... Also, try the hot sauce, it's fantastic, but watch out, it's HOT!

I pass by this place all the time because of how non-descript it is. I really do enjoy cheesesteak sandwiches, though, and so finally decided to drop in. It looks like it used to be an old Shell Station that has been repurposed. The inside is fairly cozy and there is not a lot of room, but there are two tables that you can eat at if you so desired. 8 Wings - Medium 9" Cheesesteak with onion only I was just not WOWed by the experience. The wings and the sandwich were good, but they could just have easily been made at home. Many times when I get a cheesesteak out, there is a certain "something" about the better ones that makes me want to return. This sandwich was missing that certain "something." While I could return and eat one of the cheesesteaks in the future, I will never crave one nor will I be the one suggesting to go.

I hope you are a Steelers fan...or that you can tolerate staring at ALLLLL the paraphernalia! I think it's pretty cool to see die-hard fans...no matter what the team is! Okay..back to business. The place is in a not so nice area and really is a dive. Just remember, don't judge a book by it's cover. I have been several times in the past and will say that the cheese steaks are pretty darn good. I also tried the Belview Burger (grilled with creamy peanut butter)...it was interesting! Do yourself a favor (if you like some heat) and try Spanky's Habanero or Cayenne Garlic Sauce...yummy! If you're a cheese steak freak like me, keep a lookout for my other reviews. I found another place that is really good!

We've been coming to Spanky's for years. We used to really love it when they were under original management, and then there was a gap of time when we didn't eat there anymore because the food was different and portions were smaller, and we just recently returned as regulars. We love their phillies, chicken or steak, and their delicious fries. I'm also a huge fan of their wings, especially the honey garlic. Portions have improved and service is good too. Everything is freshly made so sometimes there's a short wait but I promise it's worth it. Delicious while dining in, and equally delicious to go.

Not a Spanx owned restaurant but a franchise. They don't even use Spanx delicious barbecue sauce. I know because I stopped by to pick up a gallon and they pulled out a restaurant sized bottle of KC MastersBBQ sauce. Best to go to Spanx the Hog restaurant @ 147 S. Cypress Road Pompano Beach. It's the REAL Spanx. I'm a long time Spanx customer when they had an Oakland Park Blvd location. Great cheese steak and always had bottles of their proprietary BBQ sauce on the tables. This Margate replica hands out one plastic ramekin half full of sauce. Ask for more and it's 50 cents a ramekin. Not so at Spanx the Hog.

Previously owned by a great family sad to see that they had to sell. Giving the new version a chance. Just ordered 5-19-15 @7:40 will update after eating. After finally receiving my order that sat on the counter for 10 min (felt like a lifetime being I was with my 2 year old), took food home and I must say that I was disappointed with the result. We ordered our highly loved Margate Wrap and it was not the same as it was two years ago. The cheese is now clumped together on one side and the wrap is way too wet. The few saving graces were the corn nuggets and brownie.

It was step back into a 1970's Pittsburgh Steeler shrine! The restaurant is covered wall-to-wall with football memorabilia. (Steeler poster's, "Terrible Towels", banners and "Black and Gold" vinyl seat covers ) Back to the food: Ordered their "Spanky Cheesesteak" (includes french fries) with onions, mushrooms and hot peppers. The sandwich was well seasoned, hot, cheesy and had a nice amount of "heat" after every bite and the fries were excellent. They even had "Heinz Malt Vinegar" for dunking your fries in. I also ordered the "Pittsburgh Wings" (2 Lbs. ~ 16 wings) cooked extra- crispy with their "Medium/Hot!!!" sauce on-the-side (it had a good vinegary & spicy bite to it). The wings were very large, meaty and well Thank you for the Yelp! connection. I enjoy reading your recommendations and sharing my reviews. Have a great day and a better weekend. Cheers!cooked with a nice crunch to them. Their service is good, attentive and I would definitely will go back when I am in the mood for that particular meal. Just a note: They do an amazing amount of "Take-Out" when we were there. (that has to say something about their loyal customer base. Cheers!

I've dined here since I was in high school and I've always loved their wings. Now 10 years later, I'm glad that they are still around. I'm still ordering their wings. The variety of wings, in my opinion, are awesome. You also can't go wrong with their loaded tots.

I was excited to try this place since I was finally in the Margate area. I ordered the 9inch Philly cheesesteak with tater tots, I wanted sweet potato fries but they were all out *sigh*, it was only 3pm I was super bummed. I also ordered a side of 8 honey bbq wings all to-go. I got home and opened the containers and to my surprise the sub was large I could only eat half. After eating it it was ok not the best as all the reviews state. The best cheesesteak is in North Miami at Super Sub and I have been on a search to find a place that compared to that place in Broward but have had no such luck. The wings were good as well for 8 pieces it was more like 12 piece since the were so big. I've tried it I can cross it off my list.

This location was the first place I actually like a Philly Cheese steak, and now i am addicted! They are always fresh and warm and not sogg and chewy like other Cheese steaks I have had. Their wings are some of my favorite as well. I have many happy memories of my dad bringing home wings from here for football days. The staff is always friendly, fun and welcoming. This is yet another must have whenever i go home! The worst part about this location is all the Steelers stuff.

Having never been to Philly, and therefore never had a "real Philly cheesesteak"... I like this. Spanky's is Pittsburg style anyway. It's not fancy, but it is really tasty. I like a cheesesteak with onion, mushroom and hot peppers. Wings had a good hot sauce, fried smelts - could eat a pound of these! Wash it down with lemonade. Good stuff.

  • Will R.

This is the best cheesesteak you will find in Florida. I've been to Geno's in Philly and this would rival even that. Great for takeout or eat in. Customize your steak the way you want it. Plenty of TVs and beer to wash down an incredible cheesesteak. The recent addition of bacon and cheese covered tater tots is awesome. Yee!

I was here almost exactly a year ago and I remember it being very good, & a very good value. Believe it or not it has improved. When you drive by it, on State Road 7 just south of Atlantic Boulevard, it's easy to miss. Service is quick. The place was way too quiet as it deserves a lot more clientele but the cheesesteak just fantastic. I also had the yard loaded french fries. And now I'm loaded!

The philly here is only second to the best one ever in Key West! It comes with a lot of juicy fresh meat and delicious melted cheese as well as any other fresh toppings you want to add. I would not recommend getting the lunch version as the Texas Toast does Not do it any justice. My qualms here are: 1. They always mess up my order- for some reason no onions is such a hard concept to understand. Then I'm stuck waiting for a whole new meal- every time. 2. They don't tell you that if you want plain tater tots instead of your fries- they're going to upcharge you $3. Seems a bit silly given a full bag of them is $2 at the store and I know they're using frozen ones. I would come back just for the standard philly but don't let them price gouge you and make sure to repeat your order like 3 times so they get it right. Enjoy :)

Kat is our server. It's my first time here and I came with a high school friend Sue she has ever been here either. They serve beer so we both got one I had a red stripe Sue had Miller Lite. I saw a hot dog on the menu you know me I had to have it with chili cheese onion and sauerkraut. Sue decided upon a Philly cheesesteak. We also ordered loaded tater tots I can't wait to try those. We have the whole restaurant to our selves I'm kind of surprised there isn't another person in here besides my friend and I. The tots werent exactly what I imagined somehow when it says loaded I always think of sour cream and chives and cheese and bacon.., these came with chili and cheese only but they were still really good. I took the rest that were left over home. Sue said her sandwich was really good she had the Philly cheesesteak.. The bun on my hot dog never held together from the first grab it had split apart making it really sloppy and hard to eat at one point I was cutting it with a knife and fork and that's not the way I want to eat hot dog. it was ok I don't think I would order that again it just didn't stand up to what I thought it would be. it was good though I can't say it was awful it wasn't it was decent. we settled on a second beer and are going to cash out and head on our way and enjoy the Sunday afternoon. the owner of this place is the same guy that had the place on Atlantic Boulevard he's a true Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I'm all for Pittsburgh. thanks for the great meal see you next time I'm in the neighborhood. Thanks for your outstanding service kat! loved sitting with you

After Tom the owner read about what happened to me he reached out and contacted me and offered to correct the mistake . So I returned today and I am happy to say they took care of things and my steak sandwich was great.

Ever since I've moved here in 2000, my parents always took us here & we've been fans ever since. Really good food for really great prices. We usually do wings & Philly cheesesteaks! Definitely worth trying.

The food wasn't what I expected based on the appearance when I first glanced in my take out box. But it was really good taste wise. The philly cheesesteak was seasoned welled, not enough onions or peppers for my liking. It was like one piece of each per bite. The spicy raspberry wings were really good. Also my bf had the hot Italian sausage philly and he loved it. Overall, a great restaurant and will be returning soon. I can't comment on the restaurant appearance or décor because we ordered take out.

This place is crazy expensive for a mediocre Cheesesteak! A full size starts at $10.75, but they nickel and dime you. I paid .75 more for provolone, and .50 for a side of wing sauce to dip it in. Since this is table service only if you want to eat there, you need to tip as well. I paid $15 for a sandwich and drank only water too! The sandwich was eh. Nothing spectacular or I would be telling you to pay the money. Fries were undercooked and gross. Waitress was not all that friendly. Place was a DUMP! They had that foam that you spray in small holes and openings to keep rats out everywhere, which makes it seem like they may have an issue. I would bypass this place for sure! I wont be back!

Something has changed here. My buddy introduced me to Spanx more than a year ago and we were addicted right away to the awesome cheesesteak with everything (provolone, onions, mushrooms, and hot red pepper sauce). We were tired of Christmas turkey left-overs, so really cravng the cheesesteak. We only recognized one of the servers last night and noticed only one cook on shift when there use to be two at all times. The corn fritters and our meals came out on real yellow plates. We never got plates before, food always came out in wax-paper lined baskets. We got a lot less corn fritters - just eight this time and they were not doused in honey or with the typical cocktails tooth picks. and now the most important thing: - The changed the rolls used on the cheesesteak - The cheesesteak had a sourness to it, maybe from the juice of the red pepper sauce, but different - The cheesesteak tasted saltier than before I unfortunately need to find another cheesesteak dive now. We are crushed. The waitress claimed that the owner had not changed, but something is different here. Hope they can get their mojo back.

As a Philadelphia'n - chessesteaks are comfort/ nostalgic foods. Spanx did a decent enough job, but the cost... I paid 11.00 for a small (and when i say small i mean tiny) steaksandwich, fries and an iced tea, which I felt should have been half the cost & twice the size sandwich.

I've been hitting up Spanky's for quite a few years..........outstanding cheesesteaks! OMG, the sweet potato fries are amazing. My fiancee had never been there, so I finally got him to stop in. He's a Spanky's fan too now. Its a must for the locals!

5 stars all of the philly-type sandwiches and the Cheesesteak salad gets 5.5 stars. 3 stars for the interior. Service is fast, and the sausage Philly is something unparalleled in quality. When coaking friends to help me move, this was always my bribery place, and it worked like a charm!

In addition to possessing a name that easily lends itself to masturbatory innuendo, Spanky's makes a great cheese steak. My favorite in the entire kingdom of South Florida. It's pretty dingy digs inside. Bathroom's through the kitchen and, if memory serves, sports some pretty hilarious floral wallpaper. On my way back from the can on a recent visit, I saw an enormous amount of Nestle Crunch bars that can neither be legal or justifiable. Made me kind of suspicious. Anyway, the cheese steak at Spanky's is awesome and totally worth getting mixed up in a potential illegal candy bar trafficking operation. The sweet potato fries are great and served with a tangy honey mustard sauce. Just the way I like it. My only (slight) disappointment was how the corn fritters were served. As a proud, genteel Southern Magnolia, I adore anything deep fried. And I am especially partial to corn fritters. Here they doused the fritters with honey, or more likely "honey flavored sauce", before serving. The result was too saccharine and sticky for my delicate country club debutante sensibilities. So if you've got a hankering for a good ol' sloppy cheese steak with a pile of addictively fatty side items, head on over to Spanky's. If you can get past the unkempt appearance of the place and the cook constantly chain-smoking out back, you're in for a hell of a meal.

Inconsistent. Carry-out sandwiches did not travel well. Eating in did not help the food that much either. This may be due to the long wait time. Don't go if you're in a hurry or too hungry! The staff was always very pleasant so I didn't mind waiting. It's just OK.

I was not impressed with even one aspect of this place which was decked out with pittsburgh steelers gear and a fresh coating of grime. It came highly recommended to me so i was surprised by its disappointment. I know they have another location on Oakland Park in Ft. Lauderdale, so i will give that one a chance be fore i come back to this one for a second chance.

If you go to an establishment for what the outside has to offer, there will be a mass of places which you will pass by and never stop in to enjoy. Spanky's is certainly one of those places. Nothing special to look at, in fact I thought for the last year that it was called Spanky's Cheesecake Factory!! The menu is expansive and the choices are seemingly endless. Since we were in the mood for Cheese Steaks, that's what we ordered. My friend met me there for lunch and I ordered the standard 9" Cheese Steak with Onions, Peppers, Mushrooms and Provolone. The sandwich was served quickly, it was hot as Hell and out of this world delicious!! Large enough that only one half was eaten and the rest taken home for round two. The steak was served with the worlds best Sweet Potato Fries I have EVER had. Bright orange, crispy, and served with a sweet Honey Mustard. In all my years and travels, this has to be one of the best Cheese Steaks I have ever eaten!! Don't pass by next time, stop and take a few minutes to enjoy this place. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up for Spanky's!!

Probably the best Philly Cheesesteak you'll eat in South Florida. It's truly a one-of-a-kind. You can hear them chopping away in the kitchen. They make the cheesesteak like you're suppose to make it. I've been here several times in the past, and typically at lunch break. The menu is simple and you get a very nice portion. They've got two locations in Fort Lauderdale. I highly recommend this place.

Not a bad steak sub. Good bread. Not anywhere near a real Philly. And yes I have had a real one. However the place is FILTHY. If they would only take a scrub brush to this place it would great

After reading other reviews I wasn't sure but decided to go ahead and take my 7-year old here for lunch. I'm glad I did. I ordered the standard Philly cheesesteak with a coleslaw side because the waitress said it was homemade, and he ordered a chicken tender basket. The chicken tenders were moist and tasty. Fries were okay, but unsalted. The cheesesteak was a little salty, but the bread was soft and warm. The coleslaw was bland. When the waitress came by and asked how thinga were, I mentioned that I should.have ordered the sweet potato fries since they were well reviewed. She promptly grabbed the coleslaw and brought out a batch of those fries. WOW are they yummy! The only down side was that she charged me for them :(. I'll be back to try something else another day.

I would definitely recommend this place!! I got the three river burger, I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. The cheese was perfectly melty and delicious. The bread was so soft, but not at all soggy! The side of loaded cheese fries were jam packed with flavor. Seriously good. Paying the charge to upgrade the fries (which they don't charge extra for regularly, like some places) to the loaded fries. Yum! The soup of the day was chicken and vegetable. I expected bland 'can-tasting' soup that I've been served at most restaurants in this price range. However, it was so flavorful! It had that comforting home made taste to it. The onion rings were perfect- not too much batter, very light, with nice thick onions. The fried mushrooms were okay, kind of had a weird taste to them, (probably wouldn't get those again.) but the batter had a good, bold flavor. The service was alright, not amazing, not particularly bad either. Seemed like all young women, they were polite and the food came out fast! Everything was very freshly cooked. All in all, I would totally go back. I also found out they deliver to my area so I'm definitely going to partake in that! I suggest you do too!

Finally went there on 1/10/13 after all these years. Ordered the basic 9" Philly cheesesteak with onions. OK, technically the sub was not as good as Direct from Philly, but this place has several advantages: (1) sit-down service, waiter came right over and took my order (2) Diet Coke rather than Diet Pepsi, (3) quiet atmosphere, was able to eat and read the paper while taking my time (4) friendly service, some other cheesesteak places act like they're doing you a favor by serving you. For sure I will return.

I don't like to go in to eat there since the place is very shabby, sticky, rundown and smells funny but the food is good. At 5:30 I ordered dinner for myself and a coworker for delivery to our job. Our lunch/dinner hour was 6:pm. We were told that "delivery was at 6:00", I asked if that meant that we would get our food at 6 and were told no that delivery service starts at 6 but that we would get it around 6:15 (we are about 4 minutes away). We only get 1/2 an hour lunch so we figured we could eat as much as we could in 15 minutes so we said that was fine. At 6:35 I called that our meals hadn't arrived yet. I was told by the same person that took our order that it was on the way, maybe another 5 minutes. I explained that our lunch hour was over but that I would go wait for the food. 10 minutes later, still no food so I called back to cancel the orders. I told the person on the phone, again the same person, that he had assured us the food would be there by 6:15, that we were disappointed but that our lunch hour was over. First he said that he denied telling me we would have it by 6:15, when I told him I had recorded him his exact words were "well, I had hoped". My coworker called back to make sure her order had been cancelled too. When she asked when she would get the money back into her account he responded "I'm not a bank, I don't know". When my coworker asked if he was the owner he said no. My coworker stated that he needed to work on his customer service skills, he told her that we had to work on our patience and slammed the phone. First of all, we were more than patient in waiting. Second, he shouldn't have "hoped" and speculated and told us the truth if they couldn't get the order in on time. Third, the bank remark was totally uncalled for. Fourth, the payments shouldn't have been processed since the orders were "pending" and we hadn't signed the receipts yet. And lastly, good food doesn't make up for a lousy experience. The lousy service and even lousier customer service isn't worth it. Other places have food just as good or better and would've apologized and done something to make up for the inconvenience. Wings & Curls for example (down the street) has excellent food and if the order is late, they apologize, make sure the meal arrives hot and throws in a free dessert. I can see now why this place is usually empty...never again!

Tasty cheese steak and great atmosphere. The staff are friendly and efficient making it a quick place to grab lunch, even though there seems to be a large amount of regulars. Go ahead, try it out and don't pass up their hotsauce!
