Today my wife and I stopped at this location for lunch after church. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent and so was the service. I had the Lobster Melt and my wife had the Thai Chicken Salad sandwich. Both sandwiches were excellent and made with fresh ingredients. The sides, Black Bean Salad and Cole Slaw, were also very good and made on site. I recommend stopping in and try the many selections of soups.salads and sandwiches they offer. They also have a seafood market and sell locally caught fish, stone crabs and a variety of deli meats cooked in house with no preservatives. This will become a regular stop for us while we are here for the winter.

My wife and I have eaten here at least 6 times this Summer and each meal has been great. Awesome Cuban sandwiches, Hogfish nuggets, etc. Staff is friendly and attentive, food is fresh, restaurant is VERY clean. I highly recommend this place!

On our last night in the keys we finally found the food we were looking for all the way to key west. We came looking for fresh caught seafood. We found our favorite meal of the trip. We tried conch at other places and found it chewy and kind of gross. The waitress was super friendly and informative. She let us sample their conch ceviche and we actually liked it. We tried the shrimp gumbo. and it was as good as what we had in New Orleans. We tried a blackened hogfish sandwich and loved it. a grilled yellowfin sandwich was great. we tried the smoked fish dip, everywhere we went from no name pub to keys fishery ,nothing came close to Brutus. But we absolutely LOVED the coleslaw! worth noting, their french fries were really good too with this garlic cilantro dip and a chipotle ranch dip that were so unique and so good. We went back the next morning with a cooler and ice and bought some coleslaw and stone crab for the ride home! This place is super clean, super nice and not a dingy dive like other places we've went looking for food this good!

Have to say that the food is outstanding although it has the tourist price. They also close a litlle early, 6:00pm. For those military members, they Do Not offer a military discount. Feel free to tip them for their service.

Fresh and ffffingggg good seafood, I couldn't believe this place cooked up some good shittt, the grouper burger which was grilled was to die for, fries conch is yummy for my tummy and the seafood chowder isn't your Campbell's BS, they have big chunks of scallops, squid and stuff.....OMG it's good stuff and it's not that expensive too This place is perfect for lunch for ppl who are traveling to key west and looking to stop by for lunch in the middle of keys

My love for the cuisine at Brutus does not fade. I am a local and frequent this establishment multiple times a week. You cannot go wrong with your food selections here! I mostly eat lunch here, but their dinners are great and a wonderful value. I have been obsessed with the Looe Key Pasta for dinner with scallops and shrimp in a jalapeno pesto sauce...it is awesome! Lunch or dinner, stop here to dine and you won't be sad, it may be your best meal in the Keys!

Was skeptical when we pulled up....it's not an impressive looking place and as other reviews point out the tiki does overlook a parking lot. But much to our surprise the food was nothing short of AMAZING!!! We began with conch salad which is tasty and boasts huge chunks of meaty bites. Was so good we bought TWO pounds of it to take home. And then decided to also had to have the fried cracked conch - great decision!! Was fried perfectly and the chipotle sauce was DELISH!! My hubby, a Florida boy who dives and is a seafood aficionado, had the blackened hogfish. He is not easy to please with this fish as its one of his faves....it was light, flaky and DELICIOUS!! He also really enjoyed the Castaway beer. I opted for the Argentina tacos, the steak was seasoned to perfection and had a delightful chimichurri sauce. Don't miss this place if you're in the area....the staff is friendly and super attentive. If we were here longer, we'd be back again. But it will definitely be in our plans for ANY future trips to the Keys!!

Recommend fried conch & mahi sandwich. Stopped here on the drive back from Key West. The fried conch were amazing, very fresh, tender & tons of flavor. We ordered them as an appetizer, and wound getting a second order because they were so delicious. The Brutus sandwich was with mahi mahi & that was delicious as well. Bottom line, Brutus was ten times better than anywhere we ate in Key West.

The freshest fish (served) on the island. The lunch and dinner menus are creative and well prepared. The Brutus sandwich is great, as are the conch salad and black bean salad. The best place to eat seafood on the island that we've found.

On my drive back up to Miami from Key West this was probably the best place we snagged a meal in the Keys. We walked inside to a little fish market and kitchen with a few tables inside. We noticed they had a comfortable shady outside dining area and we sat there. The service was friendly and efficient. For our lunch we had the mahi mahi tacos and the shrimp po' boy. The bread on the po' boy was toasted perfection - just the right type with delicious Garlic lime cilantro sauce to go with the shredded cabbage and lettuce. Both were delicious and fresh. This wasn't any kind of tourist trap food and you could see that great care went into the prep of these meals. If seafood isn't your thing they had many other interesting choices such as korean bbq tacos, pulled pork, Mojo pork, and a few other specials. I saw some of the other diners with these dishes and they looked really good. Glad we stopped in and look forward to do it again the next time we are driving down to the Keys. I noticed a sign that they were going to be closing a 5pm - perhaps these are the start of the "low" season hours? Not sure, but call to confirm they are open if you are planning on stopping - which by all means you should!

Stopped by on our way back to Miami from Key West. Did the Marathon Turtle Hospital tour right before, and skipped lunch, so we were famished. However, this is still a nice place - loved the airy outside seating area and my Hogfish catch of the day basket, which came with a great cold black bean salad hit the spot! My husband had the shrimp tacos which he also liked. Friendly and quick service too.

My fiance and I went out of our way to come to Brutus, mainly due to its high Yelp reviews and appetizing menu selections. We had just finished lunch an hour prior, but we still stopped by Brutus to check it out. The food was delicious, but the service fell short by several hundred yards. Think Geno Smith (sorry Jets fans) or Josh McCown (sorry TB fans), where the service wasn't even close. Let me explain. We got ours to go and while our conch salad arrived immediately (they were already made in a large bowl in the display case), we waited for a good 20 minutes for our mahi tacos. No biggie, we were on vacation and enjoyed checking out all the pictures on their wall. But when the mahi tacos arrived with cheese, I politely asked the lady behind the counter about it, and she gave me an attitude about not telling them about my allergy (of course I didn't forget, but okay). Then when they handed me the tacos without a plastic bag, I asked for one (as other to-go orders all had one), another lady behind the counter sighed heavily, glared at me and sarcastically made a comment about pleasing me. It's hard to figure out if some of the ladies were having a bad day, or they didn't like me, or mahi tacos without cheese is blasphemy in Florida (PM me if that's the case, because I'd love to know the back story). But I can't recommend coming back here.

Loved our meal at Brutus! My husband and I were on our way to Key West and stumbled upon this little place off the Hwy. The food is excellent! This was one of our favorite places we ate at all week. The Brutus sandwich was incredible.. perfectly cooked, fresh and just everything I wanted it to be. The shrimp tacos were also really really good. I think I would have eaten here everyday if we stayed in Marathon. Do not pass this place up!!

If I could give Brutus' a 3.5, I would. There were two saving graces: 1. Fresh fish. 2. Waitress, Tiffany - invigorating, intoxicating...whatever, something like that. Food top to bottom... Southwestern seafood chowder was good, really good. if you don't like creamy chowder, it's not for you...otherwise, yep. The blackened Mahi-Mahi tacos were bland. The blackening wasn't spicy and both my son and I thought the sauce was light and/or lacking. The fish was fresh and that was the saving grace, but after some stellar seafood tacos in south Miami and in Key Largo, these were just meh. The key lime was key lime. Kiddo liked it, I thought it had a nice consistency but was otherwise another meh. Again, based on other reviews maybe it was just an off day. The service was outstanding from all the staff and as previously mentioned, Tiffany was attentive and extremely diligent.

My husband and I stopped by here for a late lunch on our honeymoon in the Keys. We arrived at 4:15, not realizing they closed at 5:00. Regardless, we were greeted by genuine smiles and excellent service. Our server, Tammy, helped us decide what we wanted to eat and her recommendations were excellent (shrimp platter and shrimp po boy). The real standout dish was the key lime pie. Absolutely delicious! Overall, the atmosphere was very pleasant and the food was fresh. We would definitely return for a second visit!!

Good seafood at reasonable prices. We stopped here on our way to Key West from Miami. One of the many advantages of the place is that it was open late. And certainly, the strong ratings on Yelp were a deciding factor. Between my wife and I we ordered a fried seafood platter and a shrimp po-boy sandwich. We are big lovers of seafood and have had wonderful fried seafood in the New England region. Our platter would certainly hold its own against most New England seafood joints. There were a couple of fried jumbo shrimps which were very good. Mahi mahi was also a part of the seafood platter and they were good and in abundant quantity. The last element of the seafood platter were conch fritters and although I don't think I enjoyed it very much, that is a matter of personal taste and not the preparation itself. The shrimp po-boy may have left more to be desired. As my wife puts "it were few shrimps in an ocean of lettuce." As best as I recall, the bread itself wasn't toasted well. Other than that, our servers were quite friendly and seemed welcoming. I also enjoyed the many pictures inside the restaurant of life in Key West. Essentially the restaurant runs a competition for pictures showing life in the Key West and the monthly winner gets a free lunch at the restaurant. There were a number of interesting pictures in that collection, many of them of people displaying their huge catch. Overall, I would look forward to the idea of stopping at this restaurant if I were again in the area and you can also give this place a consideration.

The fresh catch basket was amazing. I had the fried hogfish and it was wonderful! Large portion and the breading was very light and tasty-- I don't normally like fried things but the waitress highly recommended it. My family tried a variety of other things (fresh catch sandwich, the shrimp melt, and the southwest) and they all had great things to say! We'll definitely return.

Fantastic place. Staying in marathon and the hotel concierge recommended this place for lunch. Fresh seafood The food is by far the freshest I've had in the keys and and staff is friendly and welcoming. I had the Brutus sandwich served with a succulent jalapeño cilantro sauce to die for and I wish I had requested more of it on the sandwich. I highly recommend it and I'll be back this week!!!!

Had the hogfish basket, conch appetizer, and scallop chowder little disappointed in the hogfish not because of prep just all of the hullabaloo about it. Was ordinary tasting. The scallop chowder was outstanding perfectly seasoned wonderful! Conch fritters lightly breaded perfectly tasting! Highly recommend!

Had the key west peel n' eat shrimp appetizer (a whole pound), fresh grilled fish and bean salad, and the hubbs got a seafood sampler (fried conch, scallops, fish and shrimp I think). The shrimp was excellent and my grilled fish was fresh and tasty. Didn't care for the platter of fried everything, too heavy for my taste. We sat outside under a thatched roof, very relaxing.

My wife and I popped into this place on our drive from Miami to Key West based on Yelp reviews. We had originally been referred to another place in Marathon but it was closed on that day. So happy we came into this place. Our server, Emily was so friendly and helpful. She went a step more and took the time to recommend places to try at our final destination in Key West. (so far those have been spot on). The food was great here too. We had the conch sandwich and hogfish basket. Would love to stop here again.

I was really surprised to find a place on Yelp in Marathon, FL with an overall 5 star rating, and I can definitely agree with that rating! I don't eat a lot of seafood, so I had the Ribeye sandwich, and it was great - one of the best meat sandwiches I've ever had and perfectly seasoned. I tried the black bean salad as my side that everyone comments about on here, and I can also testify that it is good. My boyfriend got the Keys Cuban which he raved about, and after I tried a bite, I could see why! I especially liked the fact that it had shredded over sliced pork in it. His mom got the Shrimp Melt and was one of the first to finish her plates! It looked really good. His dad tried the same sandwich I got but wasn't as fond of it because he expected it to have less seasoning. The staff consisted of young females who were very attentive and recommending. You could tell that they wanted us to have a great visit so we would tell more people about the restaurant. Apparently, the outside tiki hut is a new expansion. The only thing I was surprised about was the ambiance inside. There aren't many tables inside, and they are all high-top. I think other tables could maximize the space better. I will definitely be back next time I'm in the Keys and advise anyone traveling here to do the same! They also sell seafood and are known for their shrimp, so you know they have to be good!

My hubby and I are on our 20th Wedding Anniversary and decided to visit the Florida Keys. We stopped in here, because the reviews were so high. We had to turn around to come here, and boy, we are so glad we did! The service was excellent! They're so friendly here! The food is fresh and you can taste it! We ordered the grilled Hogfish and shrimp Po' boy. We ended up splitting our meals and we loved everything. The sides were great as well! We are very happy that we chose here to eat. They even gave us a sample of the conch salad, which was so good.

Stopped by here after a day on the boat. Excellent, attentive service. I had the Mahi Tacos and they were delicious! The cilantro sauce was a great addition! The serving was 2 very generously stuffed tortillas.

My husband ordered the seafood chowder, and surf and turf... He said it was "good enough". I ordered the chicken Alfredo... It was good but very soupy. I wish this chicken was blackened however and it would have made it better. Sit outside, so worth it on a nice night... They also have great music going and serve your beer in a coozie! We'd be back for sure, maybe for lunch next time!

I don't understand how this place gets 5 stars. I had dinner there outside in the Tiki patio. The fact is you are just sitting on the side of the building under a thatched roof, there is no view and the traffic noise from the overseas highway is annoying. Service was aloof, I interacted with a total of 4 different people, many of them asking or repeating what the last person just asked. They also had a hard time delivering my food and check to the correct table. Both times it was given to the table 2 up from me. You need to work on that. However I will say all of the servers were friendly and did seem to be trying to do their best. The food was unremarkable. I got a seafood platter that came with shrimp, scallops and blackened Mahi Mahi. Asparagus was the vegetable and Mashed sweet potatoes was the starch. The cost of the dish was around $23 so I was expecting some high quality grub. The three scallops appeared to be previously frozen and didn't have the nice caramelized crust on it that you expect from the "better" restaurants. The butter sauce was plain and overall I could do this at my house. The shrimp were overcooked and chewy, something I didn't expect from a 5 star place and again just a plain butter sauce (yawn). The Mahi Mahi which was supposed to be blackened was not. I have found that the term blackening brings up two different preparations. There is the NOLA style blackening where a black crust is created by using very high heat and a combination of sugars and spices, this is rare to find so I wasn't expecting that. The other type of blackening that you get is when the cook dredges the protein item in a Cajun seasoning mix and then cooks it. This adds flavor and spice and while this fish did have what looked like that on it, it had zero spice and very little flavor. Again it appears they were using butter as the main flavor component since this fish was also drenched in it. However the Mahi Mahi was cooked to perfection. Asparagus was very good and the mashed sweet potatoes were good, but didn't seem to really complement the meal. Overall the meal was nothing memorable and quite average (2.5 stars worthy). Although watching them try to deliver it to the wrong table and then deliver my credit card to the same table was quite comical. I hope for my sake that this isn't a 5 star place in the keys. If it is and all the others are less stellar I'm going to have a hard time down here.

I can't say enough about how great this place is. We've been getting fresh fish from here for about a week on our vacation in the Marathon Keys. Shrimp, Hog fish, grouper, snapper, all excellent. Then we had lunch there yesterday, the best meal I've had since being in the Keys. I got a Hog fish sandwich that was the best fish sandwich I ever had. My husband got a fish platter, the calamari were amazing. If you are anywhere near this place you NEED to go.

Reasonable prices, great fresh seafood. We had the soup of the day, which was a very tasty shrimp soup. It had just a bit of tang to give it flavor over your standard chowder. We split the seafood sampler platter and for an extra 50 cents upgraded the fries to their spicy Sriracha/Parmesan fries. The platter came with 3 good sized shrimp, severa pieces of fried conch, and a large piece of fried mahimahi. The conch was a little on the chewy side but that was the nature of conch and not the preparation. The batter was light and nothing tastes too greasy. We really lucked out. Showed up at 6:00 pm on a Saturday evening and the place was wide open. Apparently it's normally slammed during that period. They have a number of outdoor tables. They are like picnic tables so you can easily seat 6 at your table. A very casual place with some great seafood. Highly recommended if you're in the Keys.

My husband said "if we could it a 10, we would!" And "The Best Stone Crab!" From someone who has eaten it on a boat out of a trap and is picky... For sure a place to go!! Service... Outstanding. Only to things that could be better is full bar and on the water!

We came here for lunch, and liked it so much we returned again the next day for dinner. Food is fantastic, and prices are very reasonable. For lunch we had the marvelous Cuban sandwiches. Cuban sandwiches can be heavy, but these were not. They had mojo pork, ham, capicola, lettuce tomato and pickle. We ordered a half portion of spicy fries to share--OMG! If you like Sriracha, then these are for you. Dressed lightly with Sriracha and cheese, a half order was a generous amount for two. Dinner the next night was equally good. I had the conch sandwich, which looks big, but with a little strategic squeezing can actually be eaten. It comes with chipolte ranch dressing, which was delicious. We choose to split the much beloved spicy fries again--they are that good. Key lime pie is also very good--the crust is very toffee flavored. The Tiki hut outside is the place to sit. Great attention to freshness and quality--not a false step on either meal. Everything is made fresh daily on site--even mayonnaise! I will be back!

Great food, good prices. Wife and daughter had grilled shrimp, I had the catch of the day which was hogfish. Ask for some garlic cilantro sauce. Key Lime pie and is as good as Kermits. Located gulf side or on the right hand side of the road driving towards Key West.

Great service! The fried conch was a great change to conch fritters. Blackened shrimp was cooked perfectly. I also love that they offer different salad dressings other than the trinity( ranch, italian, and blue cheese) The soy dressing in particular was great! Everything was on point. We'll definitely be back!

I shared the new East Side Sandwich with a friend who was vacationing from PA. The East Side sandwich is a marinated pork tenderloin with sauteed kale, provo cheese and garlic mayo on a toasted bun. Holy smokes, it was so good. So good in fact, after thinking about it, my friend texts me later: "Never in my 63 years have I tasted anything that good!" It was a special that day, but I hope they have it as often as they can get kale!

My girlfriend and I were in town and grabbed dinner here twice. The price is right, the staff is great, and the food is excellent. We tried the mahi bites, ribeye sandwich, fish basket, shrimp po' boy, and it was all delicious. The shrimp po' boy was really good and had tons of shrimp! There was always a crowd and terrific specials.

  • Jamie S.

The food here is good...actually really good and fresh! We tried the fried shrimp basket and blackened Mahi. Both dishes were perfectly prepared and came with a black bean salad that was also tasty. The shrimp was plump and sweet...some of the tastiest ever! The Mahi was seasoned perfectly...just enough to add some flavor and still taste the freshness of the fish. This a super casual dining place with indoor and outdoor seating that is conveniently located on Rt.1 on your right side if you are heading South (towards Key West). Definitely check it out!

We caught it, they cooked it well. Friendly service. Fast. The fee was $10.95 compared to $25 to Hawk's Caye where we were staying. As a heads up, Google says it closes at 7 but they stay open til 8. For the price point it is 5 stars.

If this was in my hometown, i'd give it a 3 star rating because i know there are better options. but since i was in vacation mode, i didn't have much else to compare it to. i like to rate food with a factor on location. i'll stick 4 stars on this review. okay seafood, nice friendly service.

My husband had the Cajun gumbo, it had sausage, shrimp, and scallops and he said it was delicious. He also the shrimp tacos and he just raved about how good they were. I had the Roast Beef Press, it had cheddar cheese in it and a horse radish mayonnaise and came with a side of au jus. So good! The kids ordered off if the kid menu and they also enjoyed their meals. Then we ordered the key lime pie, a little slice of heaven. One of the best we've had. The price is good and the food is delicious. The atmosphere in the outdoor dining area is casual and comfortable. We have added this to our small list of places we will definitely return to in future visits.

we stopped at Brutus after a day at Bahia state park thanks to yelp suggestions. it's a small place, with both indoor and patio seating. the waitstaff was very friendly and checked on us frequently. I'm glad we stumbled on this great restaurant, locally frequented, lots of people were greeted by name. I ordered the blackened shrimp po'boy with cole slaw. I'm picky with my cole slaw. it was excellent- with celery seed and not too sweet. we drank large glasses of seemingly bottomless unsweetened iced tea. watched an iguana walk across the parking lot. the potions were not too big or too small either, which was great because I hate leaving food behind but on vacation there's no refrigerator for leftovers... I would definitely stop here on my way to or from the keys again.

My family and I came to Brutus for dinner last night, and are back again for lunch today! Their blackened shrimp is wonderful! Very fresh. Their barbecued shrimp is also very delicious. I highly recommend the scallop chowder. It was very creamy and deliciously seasoned. The stuffed fish (mahi was our choice) was amazing. It had crab cakes, shrimp, capers, and a delicious sauce. Highly recommended! You can't go wrong with peel and eat shrimp! The shrimp were very tender and sweet. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone whom is an avid seafood lover.

First night in Marathon and we enjoyed a casual delicious meal at Brutus. we loved the thatched roof outdoor patio. Nice heaters on a chilly night. Enjoyed the catch of the day both grilled and blackened. Equally good. My son was happy with his burger. Got a Keylime Pie to go. It was amazing. Best part was the very reasonable prices.

My family and I stopped in here to get away from the typical resort-food and tourist traps and we were quite glad we did. A number of locals were eating alongside us on a mid-day afternoon (including one who captained a local fishing boat--always a good sign), and we quickly found out why: fresh food & pleasant service. I think I was most impressed by the sides,--simple but solid. Definitely try the black bean salad and the slaw. Both were spot on, and the fish (I got the grouper which was the catch of the day) was well-seasoned and very fresh. To be perfectly honest, good fish & food set aside, I'm also just a big fan of anywhere that hands you your bottle of beer in a beer coozie labelled "On Loan". :-) Keep up the good work, Brutus!

Holy cow...this place has delicious food! We ordered cracked conch, fried shrimp, lobster and stone crabs in our group and all of the food tasted great! The only reason for 4-5 stars is the ambience...it was loud and we were jammed in between a big table and the high traffic path to the kitchen. Nobody's fault though...we picked the table! I would definitely recommend this restaurant and the place was filled with locals which is always a good sign!

Fantastically fresh seafood! Highly recommend Brutus sandwich and the grilled fish tacos!

My boy friend gobbled up the sandwich from here quicker than Id ever seen him before! I am a vegan therefore no fish but he claimed the sandwich was phenomenal and thanked me for finding it on yelp. The wait staff was great, we got lots of water refills and were very friendly! I would stop by again if I was in the keys !

The stone crabs were great! My first time having fried conch, so delicious :) The service was awesome. I would definitely recommend this place.

  • Maddy W.

Awesome! I had the fresh catch basket with mahi mahi grilled. The fish was seasoned with tons of flavor. Wasn't a fan of the black bean salad I personally think it would taste better warm. We also got the fried mahi bites which were fried to perfection. Totally recommend that appetizer. My boyfriend got the shrimp PO boy with pepper jack cheese. This was an explosion of flavors, the shrimp was ordered blackened. I would definitely recommend it when in the area. Awesome fresh fish and won't burn a hole in your pocket

Amazing find! Shrimp tacos and shrimp po boy were awesome. The key lime pie topped it off!

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat and wasn't disappointed. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the fish was fresh and tasty.

Four stars is sufficient for this place. I'd have given it 5, but the shrimp melt is basically a mayonnaise sandwich. The blackened seafood platter & calamari, however, were delicious, as were the asparagus, sweet potato mash, and salad that came with the entree. The least expensive dinner dish was the parmesan chicken for $17. Service was good. Internet maps place the restaurant on the water. It is not. The outdoor area is next to a parking lot.

This place started out with so much promise. I am a FIEND for blackened mahi mahi sandwiches. Whenever I visit my family in Florida, I eat as much of it as I can. My boyfriend and I stopped by Brutus' on our way back to Key Largo from Key West. The food was pretty great. I had the blackened mahi sandwich with avocado and pico de gallo (no cheese). It was good, but lacked spice. I added some of their hot sauce and it made it just about perfect. The manhattan clam chowder was also really great, as were the spicy half order of fries we shared. However, the service. was. abysmal. We didn't see the waitress again after she took our order. Literally. Someone else brought us our food, someone else got us the water we asked for from our waitress, and someone else went to get our waitress to bring us the check. We were on the back door patio and we didn't see her at all during our whole meal. I think she forgot about us and was just hanging out inside. It really put a damper on our spirits after the great food. I'd go back, but I'd definitely not have her again as a waitress.

Simple environment. Excellent food. Great homemade lemon olive oil vinaigrette. Really good seafood chowder like from somewhere in New England. Fresh hogfish sandwich. We would return.

Absolutely amazing from the moment we walked in. Friday night at 7pm with no wait. I read the previous reviews and felt we couldn't go wrong and I was right. Our server Tiffany was on point. I was craving fish and lots of it. Although Tuna wasn't on the menu that night the Chef hooked up a seared app that was perfect. Me and my pops both ordered the Blackened Hogfish Dinner. I had Asparagus and Rice and they were both hot and cooked to perfection. The fish was amazing. Finished with a Key Lime Pie and it also was amazing. 4 beers, appetizer, two entrees and two deserts and our check was $65.00! Freaking awesome place with great staff and service. The only complaint I would have is that they didn't sell liquor because a Grand Marnier would have topped that meal off perfectly! Well done Brutus!!!! Def be back prolly tomorrow

We have eaten there 4 times and it gets better every time. New menu very good. Inside dining room done wrong. Need tables with no arm chairs. Need to class up a little. Outside could class up a little also, but food great.

My family and I decided to try this place based off of reviews here on yelp and we were not disappointed at all! This was the best and the freshest seafood that I have ever had! I had the blackened seafood which was shrimp, scallops, and mahi along with mashed sweet potatos and asparagus...it was truly delightful! Everyone elses meals were fantastic as well. I will most definitely be going back before I leave to go back home to Iowa! I would highly recommend anyone to eat here!

One word: Fresh. Had the signature sandwich and their shrimp basket. Both were awesome. Only complaint was the toppings on the Brutus sandwich overpowers the fish a bit and could probably use a squeeze of lemon to brighten it up. The service was great and parking was easy. I'd definitely return.

A local recommended this place to us. The Brutus sandwich was excellent and my husband tried the hog fish basket which was good and upgraded his side to fries which did cost extra but the fries were homemade. They are only open from 11-5 but the service it great and the prices are reasonable.

Casual dining in a family friendly atmosphere pierced with local knowledge of great seafood and even better key lime pie.

  • Sam R.

Our last meal while on vacation and it was the best! The BBQ, Fried Seafood, Potato Salad and Black Bean salad was amazingly fresh. My mouth is water for more of the black bean salad right now. It got busy at 7ish so come early if you don't want to have a short wait or if you have a larger family. The inside seating is limited.

  • Ann C.

Worst service I've had in a long while anywhere. Super slow for mediocre food and management made no effort to make it right except to tell us we were there the day before their busiest day of the year, Thanksgiving. Lame excuse!

  • Laura Z.

My husband and I visited Marathon and relied on yelp reviews to help us find the best mom & pop restaurants in town. Brutus Seafood is definitely top of our list. We'd not had conch before so we ordered the fried conch appetizer (amazing!) followed by stone crab claws (wow!) and fresh peel shrimp (super fresh!). Add to that the special of the evening, grilled hog fish and a cup of the black bean salad and our little dinner was made complete. What great food - highly recommended and we'll be back!

Stopped based on other reviews, and we were glad we did. Service was quick and polite. Good was fantastic. Definitely recommend.

Found this through my fellow Yelpers, very pleased with the pulled pork sandwich, tasted like it had been slow-roasted all day. You get choice of three barbecue sauces, which is nice (I had the Carolina vinegar sauce - might try the jalapeño barbecue sauce next time). Impressed with how fresh all the seafood looked as well.

This place is great! My cousin took me here and I was amazed how good the food was. They had hand cut fries great shrim salad and my grouper was incredible.

We ate got takeout for dinner here twice on our trip. The conch sandwich - amazing. Seriously. I thought about all the next day! Everything is really fresh. The people that work there could not possibly be friendlier or more helpful. The place is small but cute. There are tables to eat there but we opted for take out because of exhaustion. No complaints. I'm going to be dreaming about that sandwich all year!

The food and service here are top notch. Give this family run business your patronage so it will be around for many years to come! Ate: Fish special, hog fish prepared Chelsea Wrap, super fresh and delicious. Hubby ate: fried hog fish basket, crispy and not over breaded. Even the french fries were great!

They don't need our biz. Hours posted are until 9pm. We were 6 seniors that arrived at 8:25pm and they turned us away with no one waiting. We won't ever stop again!

Brutus Seafood is the name of this place, but they have other items that are excellent! As you can imagine, just about every place in Marathon has a focus on seafood-we were ready for something else. My wife had the brisket sandwich and I had the hot pastrami sandwich and both were great. My wife's brisket was tender and yummy , while my hot pastrami with swiss and coleslaw toppings was delicious! My wife got their spicy fries and we enjoyed them. She also liked her side of coleslaw. The place is small and deli-like. We had great service and would go back in instant.

Truly amazing! Stopped on our way back from Key West. Had the grilled shrimp basket with an order of sauced used in po boy sandwich. Delicious! Highly recommend it! Then had the key lime pie, which was way better than the key lime pie in Key West. Just sayin'

After passing by all week we decided to give it a go So, so glad we did! Our lunch was great! I had a salad with fresh hog fish on top very fresh and delicious. My husband had the fried conch basket and it was some of the best conch we've ever had. Will definitely be returning before we go home.

we read some reviews for Brutus and had to give it a shot. WOW it was really worth it. we tried some of everything. I went with the hog fish and my wife had a special that included fresh lobster, shrimp, scallops and mahi. the shrimp was so good I ordered a second helping. Hog fish is my new thing. they seasoned it and grilled it to perfection. If you are in the middle keys, this is a must stop. The atmosphere is very casual almost deli like. You can sit indoors or out. we sat under a palm thatched roof at a picnic table. Great job Brutus, Thank You for a great meal.

The food was perfect- Blue Crab Chowder, blackened grouper. Wife had a shrimp & pasta- Delicious! I would've given them a five (4.5) but appetizers, salad & meal came out at the same time. Finished everything. Stop by ASAP if in the area.

Food is fantastic. Cuban hamburger and Brutus fish sandwich are exceptional. Service was friendly and fast, particularly surprising given that the place was packed. Sat outside in the chickee hut where the breeze was wonderful.

It doesn't look like much from the outside but the food and service was extremely good. Very fair pricing too.. Casual atmosphere with all high to tables. Don't forget to try the bean salad...yummy!!!

The food is good and the prices are reasonable! The seafood is super fresh too! We had the shrimp tacos with black bean salad and my husband had the grouper sandwich- everything was delicious and fresh. If you're driving through the Keys, it's worth stopping by.

We went here last evening and were not disappointed. Brutus earns it's fine reviews. Steamed shrimp appetizers were so very good. The mahi-mahi, grilled shrimp and hawkfish dinners were delicious. And the 'grand finale' of Key Lime pie rounded out an outstanding dining experience. With two youngsters in our group we took advantage of the comfortable outdoor dining area. And.....we ordered 4 pounds of the steamed shrimp, fries, slaw and a whole Key Lime pie tonight to enjoy in our vacation villa at Hawk's Cay. Bon Appetit! And, by the way, the prices are very reasonable-always a consideration!

  • Patricia S.

Service was terrible. No hostess. There is no direction on where to go when you walk in. It is a seafood market so we only saw a handful of tables with people in each table. We were about to leave when we walked outside and saw someone come from the side of the building. Turns out there is an outdoor restaurant bi one cared to share with us. There are two different menus which were confusing. Waitress didnt tell us the specials. Forgot to refill our drinks. We ordered dessert and she forgot to bring it out.

Fresh blackened Mahi Mahi, shrimp Po'boy, sesame dressing, fresh cut fries were all phenomenal. We ate here last night and again for lunch today. I eat a lot of seafood and this place is top of the line! Very casual atmosphere.

Excellent. ...great service, we'll prepared and very fresh. I had blackened grouper and it was supurb. Hubby had grilled shrimp and they were sweet fresh and cooked perfectly. The cole slaw was unusual but very tasty. Salad dressing was a sweet soy vinegarette and it was super good. Definitely must eat here if you travel to or through Marathon.

Awesome fresh seafood. Conch and calamari appetizer were delicious. Grouper was super fresh and perfectly prepared. And the owner gave me helpful local fishing tips. Will definitely return. A+

Fantastic food! Absolutely the best food in all of the keys! I'm sad we found it on our way out of town...otherwise we would have had multiple meals here. Service was friendly and great! The blackened shrimp poboy was superb! The key lime pie was a must have! Everything is made fresh in house and it shows!

The 5 Stars are valid! Probably the best Mahi Sandwich I've ever had! It came with a black bean salad, that I would never order onto own....before trying it. The black bean salad was excellent. Service was also fantastic. We got there at 8pm, without realizing the "Yelp" lists 8pm S their closing time. They made us feel welcome and arrive was top notch, even beyond normal closing time. Can't wait to go back.

This is a great spot! Sat in the tiki patio which was nice and cool with shade and ceiling fans. Loved the Southwest Fish sandwich and the shrimp tacos. Their Key Lime Pie was a great finish. We will be back!

Herbed Mahi and blackened shrimp & Mahi were fantastic. Try the mashed sweet potatoes! Service and cleanliness also excellent. Heads up that they close at 8p. Our three boys found great options too. And yes, the Keylime pie is out of this world.

Great food awesome service you will want to stick your head in the plate to finish anything that might be left! The only downside was I did not taste any turtle in the turtle cheesecake. Its a must try!!!

Shrimp melt IS awesome as is the black bean salad. So glad I checked yelp when we were looking for a place to eat lunch.

Very unassuming place with amazing seafood sandwiches. I grew up in coastal NC so I think I'm qualified to know good seafood and Brutus totally nails it. I had the Brutus Sandwhich (Mahi) and my wife had the Shrimp Poboy... Both were excellent as was the slaw and black bean salad. Great staff to boot

Brutus has the best blackened fish I've ever tasted. The fish is always moist, fresh and delicious. I always stop here to eat on my way in to the Keys. The staff is always friendly & smiling. Great environment & amazing food. The BEST I've had in the keys & I've lived here for over 6 years. You MUST visit!!

While visiting the keys is a giant opportunity to eat and try seafood, finding out that the had pastrami was too good to pass up. Their pastrami sandwich was excellent! It's composed of a moderate amount of pastrami, topped with their thousand island dressing with a kick, coleslaw, Swiss cheese, and grilled like a panini and diagonal sliced. It was like buttah! I tried it with the black bean salad which was delicious and had a slightly sweet dressing revved up with jalapeños-enough for some spice but not so much that it burned your mouth. On Monday evenings they do a spareribs special, on Wednesdays a mojo pork special, so it's a place that keeps you coming back. And they have the seafood market, too. I recommend Brutus'.

Fresh and delicious! Definitely deserve all 5 stars! I had a shrimp taco with black bean salad. It was so yoummy!

Go where the locals go!! One of my favorite places to eat in town. They are family owned/operated with multiple generations in the commercial fishing industry. They run a well trained and friendly staff and are always around to say "Hello" :) I have tried almost everything on the menu and love the variety and creativity of their daily specials (which are posted daily on Facebook). Can you say "Jalapeno-Cilantro Cream Sauce" YUMMY!!! I can't wait till they bottle the Sweet Soy Dressing on the Vaca Salad. I'm making my self hungry, lol.

  • yuejau l.

Love the mojo pork!!!! I had couple pork sandwich in the Keys..all pretty dry. But in Brutus mojo pork is very juicy and yummy. Excellent conch salad and black bean salad. Fresh seafood without over paying for it. Glad we found it going through the Keys. They close 8pm in Saturday. Is wrong hour post on yelp.

Great seafood. It actually IS local fish and shellfish and you can tell how super fresh it is just by looking at the color of the fish in the case. I'm a fisherman and I know fresh fish. It's definitely fresh. The prepared food is excellent too. Made with the same fresh seafood they sell from the case I imagine. It sure tastes like it. All served up by a friendly (and pretty) bunch of gals. The only downside of the place is the seating. High tables with backless stools aren't super comfortable. Stools with backs would help, regular chairs would be even better.

  • Dan M.

Found this place on yelp and was not disappointed. I had the blacked mahi, shrimp and scallop combo, with sweet potato and broccoli. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Nice salad before the meal was great too. If you are looking for a quaint little restaurant with great food this is it. You will not be disappointed.

This was by far the best meal of our Keys trip! They have their own fishing boat, so we ate what they caught earlier today....it was so fresh! Stone Crab Claws, fish dip, shrimpballs (think meatballs, with shrimp substituted for meat), and grilled yellowtail (best ever). We met the owner and his daughter and they were so awesome! The owner's son is the fisherman. LOVE finding great eats like this! You definitely must try this place when in Marathon!!

  • Daniel P.

This place is just so incredibly good. Some of the best seafood in the keys. Everything we had was fabulous. The ribs were unbelievable. The prime rib sandwich was so tender. And the blackened seafood platter was out of your mind good. Also the steamed shrimp and shrimp ceviche were great appetizers. Please go here, for your own good. You won't regret it.

Found this place on our last day. Just stopped in to pick up some seafood for our dinner but spoke with the owner and he let us try a few things. The food was fantastic! Eating area is very casual, cafeteria style, but the food makes up for it!

We always stop here to and from Key West. Friendly unpretentious layed back service. Food is delicious. Have the fish sandwich... Any fish will do. Desserts good too. Mmmm!

Great service. Had a fish sandwich for lunch and some awesome fries that the waitress suggested. Definitely hit this place up along with King Seafood if you're spending time in Marathon.

Hands down, best place for takeout stone crab claws. Their sides are creative and delicious too. Staff is extremely helpful and really made me feel welcome, despite being an out-of-towner. Prices are very, very reasonable. My wife and I got a takeout dinner of medium stone crab claws and sides for about $25.00. Pretty sweet!

  • Lynn C.

We stopped here for lunch on our way to Key West. We were a group of 12 and they rearranged tables to fit us all in. The service was great and the food really outstanding - the snapper was tender and flavorful and they serve a fabulous chipotle mayonnaise with just about everything. Everyone was happy with their meal - special kudos to the blackened scallops! Also the key lime pie (brought in from a local bakery) was the best I've tasted so far. Only issue we had was with the seating - all of which is on high bar stools (unless you sit at the outdoor picnic tables but given the heat, that was not an option for us). Two in our group were elderly and had difficulty sitting on the higher, no-back seats - adding a couple stools with backs would be a help!
