YAY for Yelp! Traveling and hungry we pulled up "what was nearby". Reviews of Red Onion Grill seemed promising and proved to be spot on. A family owned restaurant with super fresh made food and friendly service. I must also say that the homemade 10 layer cake was DELISH!

This was just what we were looking for on a Sunday morning. Driving a "big rig" prohibits us from the luxury of a good ole home cooked meal. Jimmies Red Onion met our needs perfectly.( including our puppy - take out "pooch patty" hit the spot ). Easy Access in/out. Interstate 10 East / West right there. Wait staff was friendly , prompt and accommodating. Price was right ! This has been added to our on the road favorites. Thanks Jimmies Truck Stop / Red Onion !! Us New Yorkers will be back !!

On the road with my brotha (he is a truck driver) and he always wanted to try this spot out. I'm glad we did!! If yall lookin for some home-style cookin, please really consider this mom and pops spot. I had the southern fried chicken and southern cookin is what I got. My bro order a bacon cheese burger and it was a monster of a burger. They should put warning labels on their menu to warn consumers that the food causes laziness, drowsiness, food coma, and itis. We slept like babies afterwards. O__o P.S not recommended for the health cautious and the faint of heart.

Carry a box of cereal in your car. The people were nice, but the restaurant was filthy and the food was terrible. We stopped because we were hungry and there was nowhere else to eat. Thank goodness we didn't get sick. Nevermore.

My husband and I always stop for lunch at the Red Onion Grill when traveling on i10. The waitresses are great and the food is delicious. True southern home cooking - simple and delicious , exactly what it should be.

We were looking for a place to eat after being on the road for awhile and saw the positive reviews on this place. So glad we went!! The food was definitely home-cooked, comfort food. We were tired of fast food by this point so it was a welcome sight. I had the chicken fried steak and he has the pot roast (daily special). Everything was really good and priced well too. Definitely stop if you're in the area. Just ignore the "we don't like outsiders" looks from the locals.

Good food for a place next to gas station. Traditional all american food. Burgers , hot dogs , chili , but also have hand cut ribeye steak , cat fish , talapia , turnip etc... Southern soul food as well. Little salad bar, but everything look pretty fresh . the meat , fried chicken and desserts seems to be home made and seems to be fresh. the place do look a little run down. The waitress wasn't friendly. Didn't refill our drinks . that's probebly because they don't have enough staff. credit card machine was down had to go pay at the store.

We would never have stopped at The Red Onion for lunch except for the yelp reviews. We found the 4 star rating was quite accurate. Our hamburger and BLT were delicious and substantial and the sides of onion rings were more than needed.

Over cooked dry cheese burger. Soggy lettuce and tomatoes. The fries were good. I had the Jimmie half pounder. $9. Didn't include a drink.

This is a truck stop so don't go for ambience but if you love old style Southern cooking, this is your place. Daily specials like fried chicken, country fried steak, catfish, shrimp...depending on the day include choice of two sides from a large selection including the best fried okra I have eaten in a very long time, baby limas, turnip greens, buttered carrots, Mac and cheese, blackeyed peas and many more. The servers are very sweet and friendly and there is a bit of a wait at lunchtime because they do a bustling carry out business. But we only waited about 10 or 15 min for our order and it was piping hot and well worth the wait. We are on a road trip and planning our return route to make sure we pass here when the Red Onion Grill is open.

Food was great. They have an excellent salad bar and the soups are good. Service wasn't all that friendly but it's a nice, clean place and the only good food near the interstate within 50 miles in either direction.

Great alternative to interstate fast food. Burgers were excellent. Onion rings were perfect. Shrimp was on par with a good coastal restaurant.

I ate lunch at the Red Onion Grill in Lee, FL on 1/23/2013. It was my first time there. Very good Southern comfort food. I had good service too plus I took photos.

TRUCK STOP. SE corner of I10 and where was I 6 mi E of Madison, FL Is there a town nearby? Clean and friendly but the TV was too loud blasting the weather. Special: Hamburger Steak with brown gravy and sauteed onions. This is not fast food. This is SOLID. Best red velvet cake I ever tasted. Choose how you want your home fries cut; I had them like chips. The coffee surprised me, too. The real thing. Don't dress up!

Good comfort food at a truck stop. Restaurant is small but clean and the staff is friendly. My only complaint was the wait to get our food was pretty ridiculous. People who arrived after us were served first and while I appreciate the fact that it is made to order I also know that waiting thirty minutes to be served is a bit much. So, if you're on a road trip with time to spare give it a try. Avoid if you're pressed for time.

Eaten here many times while traveling thru the area and today by far worst experience we have ever had. Maybe a new cook but food was not worth stopping for.

Awesome bacon cheeseburgers and sweet potato fries. Certainly wasn't expecting something this good here. If you need gas and are in the area definitely stop here.

Never underestimate food found at 'truck stops' ... 10 layer red velvet cake baked in-house. fries hand cut; burgers made fresh when ordered. Near I75 and I10 in Lee, Fl. If passing thru, stop by. We were headed to Tampa and after driving hours from Iowa we were happy to find this place on yelp. Based on the reviews, right on,

Wife and I were looking for a place to eat after being on the road for awhile and saw the positive reviews on this place. It would be our last meal on our 10-day leaf-peeping odyssey. Glad we went! Had the "real" hamburger (after a LOT of great fried chicken, I was plucking tired of fowl) and it wasn't bad at all. It was not one of those $12 chain "gourmet" burgers, but it was done right, choice of fries or onion rings and it wasn't so over the top that I was ready to take a carb-overloaded nap while finishing the drive home. There aren't too many gas stations I would eat at, but this is one of them for something basic that is done right.

One thing is to be sure, do not misunderstand this is being some French bistro. It is a truck stop plain and simple and that is all folks. The food however is good old fashioned trucker comfort for food, prepared well and had a good price. Definitely worth stopping in.

This place is real country and in the middle of nowhere. However, the food is legit good comfort food. I read one the other reviews that mentioned the fried okra was the best they ever had and I scoffed. I was wrong; best okra I ever had. I had the chicken fried chicken with white gravy. Fried fresh and perfect, ever and juicy. Gravy was spot on as well.

Great patio and good service. The menu could use a little work to make it more special but all in all a good place to hang out and have a beer.

I can't help stopping places like this - semi- sure I'm gonna spot Elvis bellied up to plate of country fried something one of these days. Food here is southern diner and quite good. fried chicked, burgers, country fried steak, and the typical sides. Greens can be really good or terrible- i liked theirs just fine. Red velvet cake and cream pies for the finish - nothing fancy, someone will call you baby, sugar, hun ... . good place to stop I-10 or a nice detour off 75.

Burger here was super yummy and cooked perfect! Waitress adorable with her southern accent. I asked her what my side options were she said friiieees, fries and well frys. its a good thing she had an accent. made us laugh, and we ordered fries.

This is your typical greasy spoon. Nothing out of the ordinary, I recommend the burgers the toppings are very fresh, the wings are horrible but the chicken dinner is great, a little odd isn't it? They also have like a ten layer cake which I'm a sucker for, red velvet & a yellow cake with chocolate frosting pretty good (remember dessert is part of the meal). The Waitresses are attractive (most of them) but on multiple occasions have left me high & dry for looong periods of time, I'm left there sucking ice cubes for moisture or licking the condensation off my glass anything I can think of to quelch my thirst. Also don't wait for them to bring you the check just walk up to the register when your ready to go (figured that out on my third time here) so if your around this sleepy town looking for a descent burger with A LOT OF TIME TO KILL check'em out.

They have a daily special which I ordered. Thin, grilled pork chops-delicious. Also had a salad bar which is a welcomed food choice when you're on the road. I don't know what the other folks are complaining about, this is a lovely, country, home cooking restaurant. Hot, fresh food cooked to order.
