YUM! I had this for dinner last night and I am still thinking about it! My boyfriend ordered us food and picked it up so I haven't been to the store. From what he told me it is part store, part restaurant, sort of a weird set up in a strip mall. I have had this bookmarked for a long time so I was excited to try! I ordered the goat curry which came with a side of what seemed like a curry potato dish. It was SO good and tasty! I had the roti on the side and I couldn't believe the size of the portion it came with! I couldn't finish it all! He had the chicken curry wrapped in the roti which we also couldn't believe how big it was! The appetizers were like small breads, some had chickpeas in it and came with some spicy dipping sauces. Everything was so good and so filling. Prices were inexpensive too, so it is a win-win! I can't wait to order from here again!!

Be prepared to wait to get your food. I went on a Sunday at noon and it took 30 minutes to get a chicken roti and a double. There are less than 10 tables in the restaurant. The workers are behind a glass wall, which I thought was interesting. The kitchen is in the back and people stand along the glass counter waiting for their orders to come out. They get a lot of phone orders, so the restaurant might not be packed with people but it will still take a long time to get your food. The doubles are $2 and the Roti $8. You can get this food cheaper elsewhere and not have to wait. The double was good because it was a thicker dough. The chicken roti didn't have much meat for the price and there were a lot of bone chips. The restaurant is clean. There was music playing, but it wasn't super loud like some reviewers reported. There is plenty of free parking in the attached parking lot. It looks like they recently remodeled the outside of the Lauderhill Mall. The staff wasn't overly friendly. I love my roti and would go elsewhere to not have to deal with the wait. I didn't think the food was better than other Roti places.

Get the the Chicken Roti! Delicious., friendly service and they accommodated our group of 7 by putting tables together. Listen to the sounds of Caribbean music while you wait for the food. WORTH THE WAIT!

We ordered paratha, curry goat, veggie roti and doubles. The curry was tasty and doubles was good as well. The goat was stewed well and was very soft, not chewy. However, the paratha wasn't fresh and to the point where we just threw it away. I've never had such old roti to-go. I don't understand how the food wasn't all fresh given the long wait (~ 20 minutes). We'll never return.

This restaurant is located in probably one of the sketchiest strip mall's I've been to, but I had to get my Caribbean Cuisine fix and I heard this is one of the places to go. When you first walk in you hear the loud Soca & Reggae music blaring in the background and music videos on the wall of women dancing at the carnival. The loud music added to vibe of the restaurant while also making it hard to hear the lady over the counter. The order was put in, but for some reason our order took forever as other people were getting their food before us. Thanks to the loud music we couldn't hear our number called even when we were sitting next to the counter. Ordered the Beef Roti and the Goat Roti both wrapped. The food came out like fatly wrapped burritos so I decided to cut it open right down the middle. Inside was a lot of meat, potatoes and great seasoning spices. I even liked their spicy dip that it came with. For it's portioning this was no doubt a great value.

The first time I walked in this place with my half-trini girlfriend I wanted to walk right out. The music was so loud and the bass was shaking the fucking walls! I obviously pushed her to do take out, she agreed. But, when I tried the chicken and goat roti plus the doubles for the first time, my life was changed forever. Trini food is my new passion and I can't thank my girl enough for exposing me to this cuisine.. I live about 30 minutes from this place, and from when she first took me early this year I've been back countless times. I tried other trini restaurants too, thinking I just enjoyed the food so much, but I always come back to Joy's for their portion, flavors, and quality! 3 words man, doubles with pepper. Fuck I love that shit! Definitely will be there this weekend now

Had the goat roti, a conch with roti and a double (Indian poori bread with chicken peas curry). ..all very good and nicely spiced...they do have their pepper sauce on the side for more heat..was there around 2:30pm and it was non stop people coming in till about 3:15 when i left....will be returning in the near future.

We've been to Joy's for many years and every year the organization of their business gets worse. As with all things West Indian, the order took about an hour, which was ridiculous being that it was only a small order. The food is good if you're a Trini craving for some home cooking, but if you can make curry yourself stay home and save some time!!! Major disorganization...get it right my Trinis!!!!

Joy's is awesome. I found out about it through a couple of Trinis I know. I have eaten here about 6 times now. I've tried the chicken, goat and veggie rotis, the doubles and the aloo pie. All are delicious and the portions are huge. I always have leftovers. I find the staff to be friendly. Yes, the music is loud and its hard to talk to the person sitting across from you. Yes, the plaza is not the nicest. But, YES, the food is worth it! The only reason I give it 4 and not 5 stars is that even if you call ahead, you still have to wait a while for your food. Do not call and expect to just pick up. On average, you will wait 20 minutes if you call ahead. If you just pop in without calling, on average you will wait 30-40 minutes. But the fact that you can grab a beer from the fridge and chat and read the newspapers they have while waiting is a plus.

My first time here and first time eating roti, I know.,. The wait was very long, very very long but the environment was very Caribbean. Curry chicken Roti was nice, but I'm a jerk chicken, rice and peas kind of guy. I will return to taste the variety of work.

Tasty-chicken and shrimp were a bit overcooked- but very good flavors. Their roti skin was awesome! The sides that come with are are some sort of sweet squash puree and a potato curry- both delicious. Aloo(potato) pie was great. The doubles chickpea filling was fantastic but the dough around was super soggy so I would not get that again... Only issue we had was my husband's food took forever to come out as he ordered rice and the rice wasn't ready - so it put a downer on our experience, took about 30 minutes longer for him to get his food after I got mine, but we shared mine while we waited... The cashier was friendly. We would go back and I suggest for anyone looking for some tasty different food or some great Trinidadian eats (a mix of Caribbean & Indian cuisines). Enjoy!

Family owned, excellent doubles and wontons. We always go to show our support. Gets busy, but it is well worth the wait. This place is awesome :)

Really good food but service is very slow. They had one waitress taking orders for everyone and also also clearing and cleaning all the tables. She was really overworked but still pleasant to the customers. They need to get her some help.

Making dinner today. Curry chicken with potato and white rice. But I needed something to compliment it. Biscuits? No. Pita bread? No. Croissants? Don't think so. Mmm, what Haven't I had in a very long time that will go well with curry chicken? Roti! Now where was I going to get it? I knew of this West Indian restaurant in Miramar, but it was no longer there. So while browsing through Yelp, I saw that my Yelp friend, Kalvin K., posted pics of island food from a place in Orlando, FL. I commented that I wish I knew where to find a roti restaurant in Broward and he suggested Joy's Roti Delight. I researched the restaurant and read the reviews. Most of them were basically the same, good food; bad customer service; loud music. After I prepared my meal, I decided to call the restaurant to find out how much do they sell the roti for and what time do they close. When a female answered the phone, she quickly put me on hold. After two minutes, the same female came back on the line. When I asked how much they sold the roti for, she put me on hold again and then a man answered the phone. He sounded like he was in a hurry, but managed to answer my questions. It took me 25 minutes to reach Joy's Roti Delight. The reviews was right about the loud music, I could hear it in the parking lot. Felt like a mini bacchanal. The place was a bit packed and loud with people chatting up a storm. Four guys was sitting at a table with over 20 empty Coors Light beer bottles among them. And they were ordering more, downing the alcoholic beverage like it was water. Now it was after 6pm when I arrived so I'm guessing they're going to be totally drunk when they decide to leave. I mean if they can leave, I noticed one of the guys just sitting there zoning out like he didn't know where he was. Five big flat screen TV's in different areas on the walls. Two airing American football and three airing 2014 Trinidad carnival. The prices for the food looked reasonable, ranging from $7 - $10.50. Varying from curry/stew/boneless chicken, beef, goat, oxtail, shrimp, conch, veggie, and duck. All mentioned is served with white rice peas & rice, or roti. Joy's also sells doubles ($2), aloo pie ($2), phoulorie (5/$1), and paratha & shell ($3). Island merchandise such as hats, shirts, bandanas, DVD's, and CD's are sold there too. The female who took my order was nice. I ordered three dhalpurie ($3 each). After waiting for thirty minutes and realizing that people who came after me were getting their food, I approached the counter and asked the female if my order was ready. She went into the kitchen and brought out my order. Really? I learned my lesson, next time I'll call and place my order. The dualpurie tasted good and went well with the food I prepared at home. I just didn't realize how big in size the dhalpurie was. 2-3 people could share off of one, and it's filling too.

The food here is pretty darn good. I had the conch and chicken, both of which were nice and hot when I got it. The wait is absolutely atrocious though. I think we waited at least 30-40 minutes after ordering to get our food. It boggles my mind since most of the items lend themselves to be cooked in advanced. At any rate, as other yelpers have stated, there is a bunch of videos of scantily clad carnival dancers on tvs everywhere in the restaurant. I would return but likely will be buying and going.

I spent a large part of my childhood in T&T and I assure you that the curry at Joy's is as good as, or possibly better than it gets. Every time I visit the area I include several trips to Joy's in my itinerary. The flavors are 'A-mazing' but as I've gotten older it has become increasingly challenging to eat partha and roti dough, (hurts my tummy) so I really like the doubles with meat option. For me two doubles with meat is a perfect lunch portion. I usually order the goat as it is extremely juicy and tender. It has been my experience at Joy's (and almost everywhere else) that boneless curry chicken tends to be a little on the dry side, so I typically avoid that. If only...the music wasn't so loud, and the place wasn't so cramped and in such a sketchy location, and the service wasn't so slow it would be perfect. Take-away: wear ear plugs or get take out but you must eat here!

I have to say Joys was my first introduction to this cuisine. I had a little coaching by my Trinidad co-worker. Let me say I'm sure there are other places that are just as good but Joys know how to do it well. I had the boneless curry chicken with Roti. Very well seasoned and the Roti is hands down the bomb. Always fresh and hot I could eat that alone but I have to restrain myself. Another favorite of mine is the Pholourie. Little fried dough balls of heaven with that sauce. I'm not sure what the sauce is that come with it but it's the perfect balance of sweet and savory. I can drink that sauce very good. Also great vegetarian options also. The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars the wait can be long, but this is due to the volume of traffic, but you have to figure out how to cut those ticket times especially when most items are prepared in batches. Just my take but hey call in ahead I guess.

The food is delicious however the service is really slow. There is one person to take orders, bring out the food, and answer the phone. Poor girl is overworked. This is my 3rd visit and I really enjoyed it but for those who are True Trini's or those who know their food, the sorrell is not homemade but instead is from Solo. It's still good, but not the one you might remember. They also sell snacks there which I loved. Would definitely visit again, but make mine a phone order to cut down on the wait time.

Came at 3.40pm on Sunday.... Had conch... Chicken stew and oxtail with roti.... Best was chicken stew... I would not recommend conch.... The Caribbean beer was excellent.... The place is ok... It was an island atmosphere.... There was a constant flow of people... We enjoyed.... It was a nice Father's Day treat......

Fantastic! Best doubles, evah! If you like Trini food, this is the place. The wait was long but I'd do it again. The hot sauce is amazingly flavorful.

Disgusting, uncouth & revolting! All I wanted to do was get a quick bite on the run, not get the runs! I've been coming to Joys off and on over the years. The rotis were nothing special, but were edible until about a year ago. I swore I would never come back again after my last experience, but I wanted a roti and all of my usual roti spots were closed. Let me preface this by stating that I'm writing this review while suffering on a toilet in Homedepot. All of the warning signs were present, just like in that movie "Final Destination". 1st warning - nonsensical blaring noise emitting from speakers permeated the whole restaurant. 2nd warning - four drunk ruffians gathered in a corner were loudly bellowing in an unintelligible dialect to each other. 3rd warning - three tables were full of garbage and filth. 4th warning - the dude taking the order was too busy participating in the unintelligible conversation with the drunks, rather than take orders. Before he finally came and took my order at his leisurely pleasure, he had to log in a few text messages. Because of the blaring noise, he has to yell to inquire what I want to order. Yet I ignored all of these warnings which signaled the dread that was about to come my way. I ordered what I always order, a boneless chicken roti. I had to wait about 25 minutes for them to bring the roti out, as it seemed the roti ladies were busy having a gleeful conversation at the entrance of the kitchen. After I escaped Joy's, I started to eat the roti while driving, the roti was quite tasteless. Not so much bland, but definitely missing the Trinidadian spice & pepper kick. There was also way to much overlaying bread, rather than meat and potatoes. About 10 minutes after I ate the roti I felt this incredible cramp in my lower abdomen. I knew what was about to happen so I rushed to the nearest Homedepot. Once I sat on the toilet, I swear to the earth I could hear thunder and lightning in my stomach, I'm not joking. It sounded exactly like some of the nature music that I listen to when I get foot massages. So this is where I am, sitting on the toilet for like 20 minutes now. Writing this review, for a place I said I would never return to again. TIPS - if you want a very good roti go to Singh's Roti Delight up the street. bit.ly/1iEtfOK - if you want an excellent roti head to Priyas Roti Shop on Sample rd. bit.ly/1iEtiKq

All good food, consistent. No frills atmosphere. Multiple beverage selections including beer. They also sell pre-packaged snacks like pepper mango. The downsides are the music which is too loud most of the time and the long wait for the food sometimes. I trust the wait for the food is to make it fresh. The place gets really crowded sometimes so it is understandable that there might be delays in getting the food out to you.

Best Rottie shop so far in FL I've eaten. In Jamaican and we love a good rottie but most of them don't quite taste right. This rottie show is DELICIOUS but the service is slow slow slow. Worth the wait in my opinion.

Have eaten here twice and had to write a review. This place, for those of you who are wondering is wayyyy out of my way. I have to drive north for 35 min to get there-- and it's in the corner of some strip mall. Not a kind of place I usually go to- that being said: wow is the food amazing. I am Indian, and this food is amazing and totally different than Indian food. It's so flavorful and well cooked, and it's simple home food. Authentic Trinidadian food. Can't get any better. I got the chicken curry the first time I went and the goat curry the second time. Both are phenomenal. The basupshut (idk how to spell) is sooooo delicious. I love this place. Anything u order here will be great. Be daring, be adventurous- get out of that lame miami sushi and Thai grind and try this place out!

BEST DOUBLES BUT RIDICULOUSLY LOUD MUSIC BLARING ALL THE TIME Joy's has the BEST doubles around and I really like their pholouri. Their roti is big, but too dry. Forget about just walking in and ordering something quick to go. You'll wait at least 20 minutes for the simplest order. Even calling half an hour in advance doesn't help. You will either 1) Get there and your food isn't ready or 2) It'll be ready but they overlook it sitting on the counter, tell you to wait a bit and then finally produce your now cold food. Also, as a Trini I love my soca but the music volume in this place is out of control. They can do better.

  • K P.

I really love the curry roti here. The doubles were good but way too spicy for me. The goat and beef curry rotis are very good. If you get the chicken curry, get it w/o bones or you're going to be picking the bone bits out of the sauce the entire time you're eating. This takes away from the experience. I mean it's alot of shattered bone bits. However, the curry chicken with bone does taste better than the boneless b/c of the flavor from the bone BUT it's not worth it to me. I just get the boneless chicken which is still good.

The place is just too darn crowded. I think if the music was turned down and food came quicker it would 5 star. I've never had any stomach issues from eating here like some people have said. If you know how to order what you want come here. if it's your first time.....maybe bring someone with you who knows Trini food.

First time having real Trini food with my Trini friend. The Roti with goat meat was amazing! The doubles made me wanting more. The only thing that I am upset about is that the amount of food was so much that I couldn't finish it! This place actually makes me want to buy a flight to Trinidad!

Yumzers. When my friends said they wanted to take me to a roti place, my first reaction was, "HUH?" Having never tried or even heard of roti, Joy's Roti Delight was a great introduction to the West Indian dish. FIRST: When you are heading out to Joy's, don't try to look cute. Especially if it is summertime, look in the bottom of your closet for your smallest shorts and tank top, because it is freakin' HOT inside! I don't think there is A/C, and even with the fans going, you're going to sweat. I'm just trying to save some girls out there a couple hours -- don't straighten your hair. By the time you leave you will look like Ms. Frizzle. It's extrememly casual, anyway. It's in a shopping center. SECOND: The menu's pretty limited, so just pick something, because they're all good. We ordered doubles to share as an appetizer (not that you need one with all the food you're going to get). Okay, no one get offended, but I'm going to describe these foods in crude ways that another roti virgin might be able to understand. Doubles are like a thin pita or perhaps tortilla stuffed with the most delicious lentil stew-ish concoction you've ever had. It's filling! But you'll keeping eating. Also, the meals come with an extremely spicy sauce that you should only go for if you're in love with hot hot hot stuff. You have been warned. For my entree, I chose the goat roti. There aren't a lot of places that I've found that offer goat, even a lot of Indian restaurants :( so I take advantage when I find it. The roti again is like a very thin pita that is STUFFED, and I mean STUFFED TO THE BRIM with goat and veggies in a curry-like sauce. It's like an obese pita pocket. It was super delicious, and the $8.50 price tag is worth it, because it's a crapload of food. For dessert, we shared some "fudge," which I put in quotation marks because it wasn't chocolate. It had vanilla and some other sweet ingredients and was really good, but it will throw your taste buds off if you're expecting chocolate fudge! We also had some tamarind balls... I don't remember what they're called, but they were okay too. THIRD: There's more to Joy's than just food... They sell a bunch of little Caribbean goodies, like mini flags and necklaces. They also have CDs and DVDs on display... I found that pretty funny. I hope that while you're there, it's someone's birthday (yours? Tell them, please!) because they play the funniest happy birthday song that lasts a ridiculously long time and gets everyone in the mood to dance. There's a lot of character at Joy's. The food is awesome, and the atmosphere is so fun you'll definitely have a good time.

I visited this place with some apprehension because i've visited another roti shop up the street and it was kinda regular nothing to call home about, but Joys Roti shop was home away from home the doubles was on point very good, I had the chicken roti with slight pepper my wife potato and channa roti they were perfect the food was all that very good Trinidadian cuisine. Now I read in one post that the music was blasting it was but you have to understand Trinis we love to eat and party and the music added a little bit of home the drinks were flowing complements of the owner a great guy.... If you are in the area of Joys do your self a favor and stop by can't go wrong

Indeed what a delight. It was almost 9pm when we decided to go there. So we called them first to ask they are open. Luckily, they asked to come over they will keep it open as they still have few guests that are dining. Eventually kept it open till 10.15!!! Its family run and you feel that the moment you enter. The GPS took us somewhere else in that same plaza but we eventually figured it out. Its tucked away in the corner and looks like a grocery shop since they sell some local basic grocery. The music playing was very very loud. There were a couple of families that were dining and while they were right under the music system banging on them, we sat the furtherest just near the entrance. The menu is simple and having been to numerous Roti shops, I had a fair idea about what I was going to order. Except they had a nice set of sides/appetizers available. We decided to get Curry Goat and Parantha (its thicker and is layered kind of roti, but nice and soft), Curry chicken and an extra Roti. We also decided to try the Aloo Pie - $2(mashed and spiced potatoes on a homemade roll) and Doubles- $2 (spiced chick pea and potatoes stuffed in a homemade bread). As it turned out, it was the best Aloo Pie I've had in SoFlo. Just the right amount of spice and well cooked potatoes that were even mashed to the right level. Soggy or over mashed potatoes can ruin it but they got it right on. It came with two chutneys; one was a mix of tamarind that went perfectly with the Aloo Pie and Double and the other was a hot chutney that I didn't even try. Not my cup of tea. The Double was really good too. Flavorful, well done, and just what you need before the main course. Then come the Roti, Curry Chicken, Paranthas and Curry Goat. They serve the curries mixed with another curry called Curry Aloo (potatoes). The rotis were made fresh right upon order, were hot, large, and very soft. Caribbean rotis have lentils stuffed between the two outer layers. Well done. I took a bite of the paranthas and they were silky soft, fresh, and were perfect compliment to the curries. The curries, well this is only place they loose a star. Maybe because we came in late or maybe after eating such nice appetizers the expectations rose, but the taste was decent, not great. The curry aloo that comes with the curries infact tasted better. The chicken was well cooked and the Curry Goat was average. Next time, we'd try to come early and see if there is any difference. There are at least 3 others amazing Caribbean restaurants within walking distance of Joy's. Overall, it was a nice pleasant dining experience. Very much family like atmosphere, we were taken good care of even thought it was way past their closing time. The Rotis were fresh and cooked upon order and the curries were decent. The appetizers were incredible. Will definitely come back.

Be prepared to wait....it was ok...just remember I put it in the fridge to eat later and one week later never came back to it. So that says alot! They give you a decent amount I had the roti and brought some doubles to eat for next day. The roti was a Dhal puri and I couldn't place what was off but I didn't like it. I asked for extra pepper and the pepper sauce which they gave you in a container had no taste :( It was hot but still plain...plain hotness lol and not in a good way. I wanted the works pumpkin and chana, potatoes, shrimp and bodi. What i got was a flavorless mashed mush with no bodi, barley any pumpkin and yellowed potatoes that taste like soap. I come from an African American and West Indian background of cooks so maybe my expectations were to high. I appreciate good food, and the foodie in me was disappointed.

What the heck is roti? This is the question I asked myself on the way to the restaurant that was rated one dollar sign and categorized as "Indian" food on Yelp. I had a curry craving that night, but didn't want to pay the steeper prices that typically come with it. So apparently this roti is an Indiaribbean (Indian and Caribbean hybrid) dish. I had no idea what to expect but I ordered the veggie roti at $6 and the boyfriend chose the boneless chicken roti at $8.50. We waited less than 15 minutes and were served two heavy brown paper bags full of what looked like giant, homemade hot pockets. Mine had a thick layer of spicy (at least it was spicy for my wimpy tastebuds) vegetable & potato filling and a another thinner layer of sweeter stuff, amongst the folds of the ample, flour-y shell. I had expected the too-loud music after reading other reviews, but sadly the TVs were down that day. However, I imagined that at least some of the music videos would have involved daggering like this one: vimeo.com/5936810 . We went on a Friday night and the place had plenty of open tables. Anyways, this was super yummy and was more than enough for two meals. I packed up the half of the roti I didn't finish in the brown paper bag it was served in and ate it for dinner the following night. BOTTOM LINE: Something different and delicious for just a few dollars.

First time trying this roti place and I must say it was not a disappointment. The roti was exceptional! The curry chicken and curried goat both were very tasty and complimented the roti wonderfully. The atmosphere is easy going and pretty cool.

It was alright, the roti is cool though. You should try it if you haven't but it's a one time thing for me. Neighborhood is not in a good area, but the rating is based on the food.

First, it's a small storefront tucked into a corner of the Lauderhill Mall (across from Golden Krust). I've been several times, but this time I went around 12:30. It was packed with people sitting at the booths enjoying beers or Solos (a brand of Caribbean soda) waiting for their food or already eating it. The rotis for the most part are under $10 for the most part unless it's conch or (muscovy) duck. I ordered (2) Doubles (think mini rotis filled with curried chickpeas) for $2 each and my friend who's never had roti did the same. As others have said, the wait can be long as I witnessed. I'm not sure how long others were waiting but I received my order around 15 minutes after placing it which I think is fair. As for the doubles, they were heavy on the filling...which is good. I tasted a hint of sweetness (mango?) and just a tingle of spice. I had asked for "peppa" inside my doubles but I'm not sure they put enough, or accidentally put it on the side like my friend requested. That said, the peppa is spicy, which my friend found out soon after. I prefer my roti "buss up shut" where the shell is given to you on the side, rather than wrapped around the curry. That said, their rotis are huge and you get your money's worth. I had the stew chicken roti last time which I didn't enjoy that much. stick to the curries.

Maybe it was overhyped? Maybe my expectations were just off? This place is connected to a small ghetto mall in a strip plaza that is half under construction. Inside felt like a small market. Playing on a couple of big screens was footage of Carnival with energetic music playing. T shirts for sale in one corner and bootleg DVDs in another corner. To put it nicely, this is 100% a takeout spot. Alright, not an amazing atmosphere, but let's see what the food is about... I've had roti before at a Singaporean restaurant, but this would be my first adventure in Trinidadian food. For those who haven't had it, roti is a type of bread, but it is thinner, and flatter. Kind of like Indian naan or Greek pita. I do love Indian and Sri Lankan curries, which is what I had in my mind for their chicken curry. I ordered the chicken curry roti and the bf had the goat roti. Our order came as this giant burrito with roti as the wrapper and stuffed with chicken curry/goat. Very good portion for the price paid and from there we decided that if there was a next time, we only needed to order 1 between the two of us. We also decided that instead of wrapped, we would have liked the food better if the roti was on the side for us to dip into the curry. The chicken was bone-in which means better flavor, but a little annoying to pick out the bones. The flavors were good. The goat meat was good as well. It's nice to have a different meat other than chicken, beef, pork every once in awhile. There is a little bit of a wait for food. Which was unintentionally longer for us. We took a seat at one of the tables and waited patiently. After awhile, we noticed people who came after us had gotten their food. When we checked in, our food had been sitting on the counter. I guess we didn't understand the flow of things. I think I'd be more inclined to return or to crave the roti here if I didn't have such a drive out of my way to a neighborhood that is less desired. But if it's convenient for you, then I do recommend the food for takeout. I am also interested in the doubles (flat bread with chickpeas and your choice of meat).

I used to go here a lot and get the vegetable roti. The roti is delicious, the bread -- very unique texture, it's almost like there's crumbs of cornmeal or something that's on them i don't know what it is. Very fun atmosphere, Trinidadian TV and music everything is bright, there's always very loud Trinidadian TV showing people dancing, etc. Seems like there's a festive Caribbean party atmosphere. The best part of the roti is the utterly addictive hot sauce (ask for extra, they give it in little containers). It is so good. Combined with the wonderful bread and the veggie curry, it's an awesome meal, very filling. I'm sure the rest of the rotis are good as well, especially the conch and other seafood.

bring earplugs. the music is so freaking loud. impossible to get a seat and the food is terrible. i'm obviously in the minority here, but i stand firm by this review.

The restaurant needs to be sprayed for roaches and a good makeover. The music is like a rum shop atmosphere. I'm pretty sure their is other places in the area that served better food and customer service.

I happened across Joy's via Yelp while visiting South Florida. I'm actually from Flatbush, Brooklyn and a Trini. The words Singh's Roti Shop is synonymous with being the best in New York and I can honestly Joy's is right up there with Singh's. You see Singh's is an experience, it's a restaurant, bakery, bar and club all in one. People "does" start fete-ing there at 11 in the morning--it's always drink:30 there. Liquor laws are so strict in NY it's a wonder Singh's has that opportunity and surely that adds to the appeal. Joy's is located in this random strip-mall. As you walk across the parking lot you can't help but shake your head and come to some predetermination only to be blown away once you step inside. First of all, when I was there, they had Santana playing on almost every screen, cricket on another, and some calypso monarch on. Then you're greeted by "Tantie" who's busy serving someone else but acknowledges you nonetheless. This one act surprised me. I'm a Trinidadian and I love my people but some of us don't know what customer service is and 99.9% your experience at a Roti Shop will be a rude one--It's like they don't want to serve you. Roti shops can make McDonald's and the DMV feel like Sesame Street! Back to the food. It's Awesome. I had the beef and that was the leanest and most tasty thing I've tasted in a while. Joy's feels like a lime at some friend's house. I spent way too long there just chatting, drinking, and eating. I remember stepping outside and hearing the deafening silence and literally wanting to run back inside. It's beautiful to know that we Trinidadians are indeed everywhere, spreading our beautiful culture!

By far thee best Roti I have ever had. Visited Joy's back in October when my friend and I flew down there for Carnival. This place was packed tightly with people standing outside, but I must say...we did NOT wait in vain. The meal was entirely worth the wait. Washed it down with an ice cold Carib, making me feel as though I was back in the islands. On a separate visit, I had the black pudding. It was pretty good, but it wasn't the best ever (I love when my grandma makes it). I can't wait for our trip this yr!!!! I won't be having anything meat related but it will be an awesome Veggie roti nonetheless! HAPPY EATING!

Now THIS is the go-to place for delicious, authentic trinidadian food. I've been eating here for years, and have never been dissatisfied with the food. The buss up shut is always fresh, hot, delicious and big enough to feed 3 people. The aloo pies, phulourie, and doubles are perfect, and the stew chicken is by far my favorite. Finish it off with a nice cold carib and you're good to go!

In ALL the roti shops I've tried in the Miami/Ft Lauderdale areas Joys is simply the best for flavor and quality. The roti is huge so you get your money's worth and the flavor is just like your grandmother would make. The only thing is a long wait on the weekends but that's expected for good food.

Very Very good roti from what i recall. I've had their food maybe twice, the last time in 2010 and it was very good. Try this place if you need roti and you're in the area visiting. It will not disappoint.

I am from New Jersey and my Trinidad boyfriend brought me to Joy's to treat me to real roti. We may have waited over 30 minutes, but it was truly worth the wait. While waiting, I had a cold Caribe Beer, which is a very nice addition. I can't wait to go back and have it again when I return!

Go here! The freshest, best roti in town - we came from Dade, and I'd do it again! The only reason why I didn't give five stars is the wait, which was about 45 minutes after ordering, and the music, which is entirely too loud...I've been to quieter death metal shows, and it was really hot and crowded, but the lovely smell coming from the kitchen kept us inside. You can call ahead, which is what I'd advise, but at busy times you should probably still expect to wait. You can order your food either with rice, rice/peas, or roti. The roti can be ordered on the side, or wrapped around the food. Either way you get it, there's a massive amount. One portion can feed two people easily, but it's so good that you'll feel greedy and you won't want to share. The roti itself manages to be both flaky and chewy; perfect. The fillings we tried were tasty. The veggie was like a chunky curried pea soup, with an excellent peppery kick. Drinks are reasonably priced - there is a variety of soda with plenty of Caribbean brands, and a giant beer cooler. Service was peasant, and it's amazing how they keep everybody's orders straight, but they do.

the wait for food is always long but that's because there are always so many people wanting to get the awesome food!! Anytime I go south to Ft Lauderdale this is a must stop and order for me. I call ahead and most of the time still have to wait. But it is always worth the wait.

I say the roti with goat curry was tasty but the place play music so loud I lost whatever hearing I had left. And the customer service was poor. The young man and young lady manning the front were rather unfriendly and unhelpful. If they are the owners, they are not helping themselves.

Slow down Yelp, I didn't say I was a fan, I gave it four stars, for the taste, and that is where I stop. My Trinidad husband and I traveled from The San Francisco Bay Area to Florida in April, 2013. We were in the Keys, in Miami, we were all over, having a good ole time! We had read good reviews of Joy's Roti Delight online so we decided to visited the place and get some real roti. The food was DELICIOUS. PERFECT TASTE. PLENTY OF IT. OMG. Yuuum, the phulourie and doubles. Shrimp roti. :) The only thing was the service. The short little man that took my order had a HUGE attitude that he could have kept. The table was so dirty, when I placed my order I had to ask for a cloth to clean it. Someone did come and clean it but about 15 to go orders came and went before we got up and ask "where mi roti?" I honestly enjoyed myself but I must be frank and honest, the service is abosultely the worst! Check it out, you will enjoy your meal but it's a hot mess over there at Joy's by the Bus Station. Yea, a hot mess! There are lots of other Roti places in the area so we will be looking for another "home away from home."

I had heard of this place for about a year and was set on trying it. But first I had to find it. LOL. It is attached to the Lauderhill Mall but you enter right next to the south entrance to the mall itself. (do not have to enter the mall). I had the Chicken Roti and it was huge ($8-$9 for boneless chicken). Roti's are usually eaten by hand, but this needed to be left in the plate and cut with a knife and fork, which was okay by me. They offer knifes and forks but they are thin plastic and not easy to use on this massive Roti. The curry, chicken and Roti itself were delicious and not dry. The place does not have enough seating for the amount of people they get in so plan on taking your order to go unless you get lucky or go during off hours. Also, on the weekends they sometimes play loud Soca and Chutney music which some may find disturbing while eating there (I liked the music). It's more of a take out place with about 6 table or so. I highly recommend it if you're into Trini food or curry for that matter. Oh and if you've never tried Roti....this is the place you'll want to go. Probably the best I've tasted. .

I used to like Joy's back in the day (since the 90s). Yesterday I ordered doubles, roti, curry goat, curry chicken, and shrimp. Doubles lacked any flavor. There was no salt and just no good flavor. The curry dishes were salty and had zero pepper. Disappointed is all I feel. This is unfortunately my last visit here. Will start searching for a replacement.

This place was a bit hard to find. It is on the outside corner of I believe the South entrance of Lauderhill mall. I love Roti's and haven't had one for years, which is why I went out of my way to find this place. I had the beef roti. It was huge. I have to say almost too big. Most Roti's are meant for eating by hand, but this was so big that it grew more and more difficult. They didn't offer knife, fork nor plate, so be sure to ask for that as you may very well need it. The curry beef inside was succulent and delicious. The roti itself was I believe of the Dhal type with a very thin layer of lentils inside. I'm sure unrolled the Roti probably measured 2 feet, which I think is a bit excessive as they had to fold it what seems like hundred times to pack it into the rolled up shape. This was pretty much the only problem. While there was a lot of filling in the Roti, there was still proportionally too much bread. As I said the Roti itself was good and not dry at all, but still it was the only problem. Next time I have to try the doubles and a few of the other menu items, that I haven't got a clue what are. They have all the standard Caribbean sodas and beers. As well as a good collection of Soca and Chutney music for sale.

They take too long to make your food there. Find somewhere else to eat if you're hungry. Joy needs to hire more employees because she would lose customers if they have to wait an hour to get a roti. That's unacceptable.

Place is a dirty, super loud dump. One would think that seeing an old, crippled white man walk in they might offer some assisstance as to how to order. Probably would not really heard anything said though. The music videos were so loud I just got my hearing back a day later. I also asked to have my champagne cola right then because of the surgeries iv'e had I cannot drink 1/2 hr. before and after eating or I "blow chunks" and most people get upset. So I don't get the soda or CC receipt. I have to say my friend had the oxtail dinner and said it was good. While I have to say I have had better shrimp roti at the swap Shop. It was actually so good I went back to get another the very next day.

I was in Ft. Lauderdale looking for a place to take my family and friends for breakfast. While waiting at the Ihop, I Yelped nearby restaurants and found this place nearby. I read the reviews and found the place. The previous reviews are right on the money! GREAT HOT FRESH FOOD !! at reasonable prices. The decor is not high end, but who cares if the food is great and fresh. I would recommend this place if you are looking to get your Caribbean "Indian" food fix ! (Trini style)

Authentic Trini food but very noisy and a less than reputable/class clientle. The doubles are a bit pricey for some flour and chick peas...but the pepper sauce makes it worth the venture into this shady neighborhood. Definitely a hole in the wall atmosphere. They're often selling concert tickets for various Soca and DJ "fetes" but dont take credit cards for em. I had to venture into the mall for an ATM to pay for one of the concerts...which is an experience in of itself (you'll know if you go to the neighborhood). The Paloori is excellent too and best of all they have cold Shandy Sorrell and Carib bottles :-) Goat curry was real good too. While it isn't quite as good as getting off the plane in Port of Spain and getting doubles at a street vendor, its probably the best Trini food in South Florida. Just wear some headphones to block out the obnoxious speaker noise...and ignore the "bling" aspect to some of the patrons. 4 stars because what matters (the food) is really really good.

The restaurant needs to be sprayed for roaches and a good makeover. The music is like a rum shop atmosphere. I'm pretty sure their is other places in the area that served better food and customer service.

They take too long to make your food there. Find somewhere else to eat if you're hungry. Joy needs to hire more employees because she would lose customers if they have to wait an hour to get a roti. That's unacceptable.

One of the best roti's EVERRR!!!! Roll your sleeves up and prepare to get messy when you eat here.....get the curry goat roti and you won't be disappointed either.

  • Eldiva S.

Enjoy!
