Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

This is a 5 star place if ever there was one. My husband and his family are from Chicago. They were born spoiled, and I've been spoiled by association. This place really IS as good as it gets. And not a "good for not being in Chicago" kinda place. This is a good true to the Chicago name, kind of place. The prices are about on par for what you'd expect to pay. Cost about $12 for 2 meals including drink refills (which costs $.30 more than regular drinks, they ask). The fries are great. The dogs are great. Everything is authentic and shipped from Chicago. Don't like Chicago dogs? Don't worry, they've got New York style too, and everything in between.

Chicago Grill & Dog House makes the greatest Chicago Dog in Florida. I love this place. Every time I come down to Tampa or Clearwater, I have to get a Chicago Dog from this place. O M G I've converted vegetarians to this place. Chicago Grill & Dog house is the greatest

This place is authentic through and through. Ignore earlier reviews. You get free refills if you order a bottomless drink, there is always two to three sport peppers on my dog and totally loaded with toppings. Bruce is the real deal and the food rocks! Soul food for the hotdog lover!

Italian beef extra wet... Delicious. The fries are crispy. Can be tough to mover around or find seating during a lunch rush.

    Very good dogs and beef

Great slaw dogs. The bean or no beans chili dogs are great also. Friendly staff always welcomes you when you get there.

I'll keep this short and sweet; the #19 (Polish sausage w/caramelized peppers/onions) was exactly what I've been craving ever since Fat Boys in 33716 went out of business years ago. Can't wait to try the Italian Beef next week.

Hotdogs were good. Fries on the other hand were just blah. If I just got the dog instead of fries and dog, it would have been four stars

Not a place to count calories! Chicago Grill is close to my new job and after driving by it every day, I decided to stop in for lunch. I had just been reminiscing about my last trip to Chicago, and this was just what I needed. The staff is incredible, and on my first trip in, I placed my order with the "Mayor". I ordered the Loaded Dog with a side of potato pancakes. It was all that I could have asked for and then some. I will be having a hard time passing this place ever again, and now I have to join a gym in the area. I am looking forward to getting an Italian Beef Sandwich on my next visit. I have now had just about everything on their menu, and the food is all solid. The food is all prepared nicely and the service is friendly.

Sooooo I have a huge addiction with Chicago and I consider it a second home to me. I was taken here by my boyfriend and now I LOVE THIS PLACE! I want to go back already. Like any diner this place has burgers and fries among other food favorites for all to enjoy as well as Chicago favorites. I had both the Chicago dog and their Italian roast beef. Both were reminiscent of Chicago and to die for. Chicago style dog was done to perfection and of course I had to get it fully loaded with no ketchup. The italian roast beef was juicy and cheesy the way I like it. You must get it with their giardinera topping and get it wet...the juices add to the flavor. The style is casual and much memorabilia of Chicago that takes me to the many times I have visited there. Last, the staff were very nice and friendly which also makes the experience at this place a great one. This is going to be a go to spot that I will frequent and I recommend anyone to visit it.

My wife and I went to Bruce's on Saturday and had another great meal. We try to come here several times each month, and we have been coming here for several years. The dogs, brats, and sausages are the best we have found in the Tampa Bay area. Bruce and his staff are very friendly, and always make us feel welcome. I really recommend the Bratwurst and the Polish Sausage. I wish they were open later on Saturdays, and open on Sundays.

i haven't been here in years i live in Chicago but used to live in Largo from 03-07 back then he was really one of the only Chicago Joints down there in Newyork-South so when i was Home sick i would go there, every thing was almost like home but not quit the bread for the Beef Sandwiches where different then what we used here in Chicago but it was still better then the other spots down in the Tampa bay area and Bruce the owner was always very nice to us

Better than most places in Chicago! As of this review, I've been here three times, tried several different items and loved every single thing I've tried. I will definitely be back often! Bruce, the owner, is one of the friendliest people I've ever run into in a restaurant. He has a great sense of humor and makes everyone feel welcome. He also knows that quality is at the heart of great food and a successful restaurant. No expense is spared in recreating the best possible authentic Chicago experience, which is why some people might think it's a bit overpriced. Considering the quality and the fact that he has everything shipped down from Chicago, the food is very reasonable! (Momentary Soapbox diversion: If you think the food here is overpriced, buy a plane ticket to Chicago and save $1 per sandwich if you feel that's more cost effective. And about the free refills complaint that some other reviewers have mentioned - he offers both a single serving and unlimited refills on the drinks and the difference is only about $0.30. Think of it as a discount if you only plan to have one drink. In either case, the drinks are not overpriced. Now, back to the review...) Bruce uses authentic Vienna Beef natural casing hot dogs on the Chicago Dogs. Everything else you'd expect to find on the best Chi Dogs is there too, from the bright green neon relish, sport peppers, tomatoes, pickle, the steamed poppy seed bun, right down to the celery salt. You won't be disappointed. The Chili Dog is perfect too. Yes, it's THE Chicago chili that you'd expect. The Italian Beef sandwiches are out of this world! Much better than Portillos and Buona Beef (Chicagoans know what I'm talking about) and better than most all of the smaller family run businesses in Chicago too. The corned beef sandwich is the best I've had in the south. Offered in 4, 6, or 9 oz sizes using tender, juicy Vienna Beef brand corned beef, it's sure to satisfy you. The 9oz size is like you'd find in a northern city deli. Buy at least the 6oz size for a great sandwich. There's plenty of other items on the menu that sound incredible and I plan to make my way through the menu when I can force myself not to order an Italian Beef. If you're into New York, he has Nathan's dogs too. Whatever the item, it's created the way it's supposed to be. I have definitely found my favorite Chicago Grill and that counts for both in and outside of Chicago!

Never got the chance to review this place. I enjoyed the meal the other week. The hot dogs were HOT, which is great cause you know it's nephew and not just sitting there rotting away. It's good to see that this place has been here for awhile, and probably for a while longer. It's not an exciting place but rather functional, that I mean it functions as a hot dog place, nothing more. I like the simplicity and old skool style. I'm going to try the chilli next time cause I read a few good things about it. Keep up the good work!

  • Mike B.

Try the Italian Beef and the Loaded Chicago dogs, which have about 10 different toppings on them that somehow work as a package. Seating inside is very limited and you may have to wait at lunchtime. Great food at reasonable prices, but I have to admit that I have never been to Chicago. Chi-town natives may feel differently.

  • C L.

Who doesn't love a good hot dog? Bruce at Chicago Grill & Dog House knows how to make fantastic, authentic Chicago dogs. The base is a "Red Hot Chicago" hot dog steamed to perfection, plump and flavorful with a well steamed poppy seed bun. What you have them do to it after that is your business, but many options are available! Also excellent are the tamales with chili and optionally topped with giardiniera. The french fries are always freshly made and seasoned with celery salt. A great place to go for real Chicago style dogs and food.

A good Dog, a good Sausage and Peppers, my co-workers swear by the gardinaire...

  • Ward B.

Give me a break... Charge a small forturne for a freaking hot dog. (yeah I know its a Chi town dog... I have some experience here - Gene and Judes and Portillos) Could you slice the pickle any thinner on your chicago hot dog?.. not to mention just one sport pepper. And then charge extra for refills on your drinks... Come on

  • Eric A.

This may be biased as we are from Chicago and have been missing out on great food since moving here. As soon as you walk in you feel like you are back home. Chicago memorabilia covers the wall and a map of the Chicagoland area with push pins of people that have eaten here and where in Chicago they are from. We ordered beefs and and asked for Mozz, dipped sweet and hot and the owner actually knew what we were asking! Ordered a couple dogs through the garden . The food was amazing. Great flavor and great portions. They also make a homemade cole slaw which is probably the best I've had. My only complaint: Closed on Sundays! Everyone needs a day off but make it on one of my days off! Just kidding!

  • Donny C.

Amazing hot dogs! So much so we drive 25 mins every Saturday to visit Bruce and the crew... Very friendly and quick service, the team knows my order by heart as soon as I walk in. Bruce puts the Coney Island crap dog to shame.

I'm from the north and always in search of a good hot dog place... which are far and few in between in Florida. So my hubby found Bruce's near his work. I had the Chicago style and chili cheese and onion. Both were very good... even the oddly blue colored relish on my Chi dog. The only thing I wished for was that the dogs were actual size, bun size if you will, not the pint size I've been seeing in hot dog places recently. If there's a half an inch of bun on each side, it's too small for the bun.... that's all there is to it. The place is clean and uniquely decorated with LOTS of Chicago memorabilia.... fun to look at while chowing down. Service is good and prices reasonable. I will definitely return.

Great place all around. Service, food, atmosphere! So many different things to choose from on the menu, all very delicious!

  • Ashley S.

Honestly, this place puts some of the authentic 'dog-houses' in the Windy City to shame. The food is always fresh and piping hot, made to order. I don't know of many places you can find authentic green relish and poppy-seed buns around these parts, but they never disappoint when I'm looking for a Chicago style treat! Bruce, the owner, is always a delight and even know my parents by name (which is a testament to how often they frequent!) I wish I lived closer and could join them as much!

As close as you can get without being in Chicago, even has some good Chicago ambiance in the place.

These are some serious dogs to good to describe in a review. Highly recommend this place if your looking for bad ass dogs.

  • Thomas P.

I enjoy coming here for Chicago specialties like Italian Beef and Chicago dogs. You can get almost anything served just the way you want either with different toppings or dipped in jus. I got the Italian Beef, served with jus and some hot peppers and it was awesome! They have a selection of different meats in tube form. French fries were crispy with a special seasoning and spicy ketchup.

    (3)
  • Anthony G.

Good if it was the only beef in clearwater. But!!! Way to over priced for what you get. I would take a 2 min drive east for the real deal.

    (2)
  • John B.

Seating is a little tight during peak times but the Chicago dog is so good.

  • Melissa H.

3 words: Dee Lish Us I usually either get the Firedog or the Italian Beef... Fresh fries, seasoned with Lawrey's, mmm. Love their gardinaire!

I got a recommendation for Chicago Grill & Dog House from a member of a family that owns a favorite pizza place in town, which I figured as a pretty good thumbs up if they liked it. And as it turns out, they were right! CG&DH is in a narrow storefront tucked away in a small plaza on the north side of Ulmerton, just each of Belcher. Once inside, you're overwhelmed with all of the Chicago memorabilia on the walls and the ample seating that stretches way to the back of the store, probably about 40 seats in all. The menu is a decent selection of sandwiches, from char-broiled chicken ($6-7), cheeseburgers ($5-6), and Chicago beef and beef & sausage ($7-8). But I was here for the dogs, and CG&DH has some great choices in that department. Their standard dog is a Vienna natural casing dog, steamed individually when you order (not sitting around in a warmer all-day) with a number of different options, as well as New York style Hebrew Nationals and Nathans, all for around $3. Another option is their char-broiled dogs cooked over an open flame ($4.50). I ordered up a standard chili & onion, which arrived shortly inside a melt-in-your-mouth poppy seed bun. The flavor of the chili alone was great, and the dog/chili/onion combination taste was spot on to my memory of many of the great dogs I had living and going to college in Chicago. I really wanted to try the beef & sausage sandwich, but I wasn't ambitious enough to eat that much. I'll definitely try it next time I'm in the area. Atmosphere: 4 Service: 3 (it was prompt/friendly, self-serve) Food: 4 Value: 4

For being the only place in 10 miles that offers Vienna beef hot dogs we were stoked to find it. Although it wasn't the traditional style I am accustomed to, but they tried to duplicate the Chicago style the best they could. Having a sliced pickle and not a spear and having a soggy bun doesn't cut it for me. Perhaps I am a Chicago style hot dog snob having tasted the best that Chicago has to offer, but Floridians should stick to other foods...

Cheesburger basket was pretty good (See pics). Looked like a clean interesting place. Interesting owner. Told me they make it from scratch so it takes some time to cook. For some reason they charge for refill.

  • Larry J.

You gotta love this dog house. Bruce chargrills his Chi dogs fresh from the Vienna doggery. Throw on some kraut and slop on some spicy mustard and this dog is as good as it gets. He also has great pastrami and knows how to build a sandwich on genuine Jewish Rye. Fries are good too. My wife digs the Chi Dog with the works, she says it is a meal unto itself and no longer qualifies as only a hot dog. Tear it up - eat for yourself.

We are from Chgo & have been here twice when in Clearwater. I think the owners name is Bruce. The last time we were here last week they were about to close & they were very accomadating on letting us come in & order. The hot dogs are delish & we also ordered the chili cheese fries which were ok at best. If you want a typical Chicago hot dog, this is the place to go. Alot of Chicago decor pretty cool to look at all the pics, etc.

Very good. Keep up the good work Bruce. Must try place.

  • Jonathan W.

So glad I found this place. I love their dogs and the variety of options they have on the menu. Friendly and helpful staff that go above and beyond. Only thing I wish they had was a ground beef option to add to their hot dogs... Then I'd be in heaven.

Stopped here for lunch and enjoyed it. Lots of options on the menu, cute decor, food was good. Good value as well. Nice little lunch spot.

Brings me back to Chicago every time I come here. The hotdogs and beef sandwiches are on the money. Bruce imports his goods from Chicago. The staff and Bruce are excellent and always friendly. Definitely the best dog place on the island.

I love this place! I go at least once a month and get the same thing every time. I should really explore my options. Slaw dog with onions and mustard

Great food, fair prices, clean and efficient, courteous service. What more could you want? Truly great food, I wish they had more locations!

A piece of Chicago in Largo. Their original Chicago dog is awesome, fresh, and crunchy. You can't go wrong with any of the burgers. I've never had a bad burger. Their fries and waffle fries are always fresh. The Italian beef is good even though I'm not a huge fan of Italian beef. I recommend sharing a pizza puff with a friend. There's a dude there that looks like a young Al Capone. Very friendly staff and great customer service. I love sitting outside to eat on a nice day and I love their Chicago decor inside when it's not so nice outside. This is one of the few eating establishments I miss the most after moving away.

    (5)
  • Mike E.

I visit every visit I can while in the Clearwater/Largo area. I always go in determined to get a dog but can never not get the Italian beef. This place truly is a portal back to Chicago. An extremely extensive menu (all great stuff) and just enough wise cracking from the owner to top off the Chicago ambiance.

  • Liz B.

I live in the apartment complex next door to this place, so I eat here all the time! I looove their food. I always get the Chicago dog, and would highly recommend it. The employees are always very friendly. The only downside is that they're closed on Sundays, but that's forgivable I guess :)

  • Warren R.

I tried this place three different times. The decor is actually pretty cool inside, full of Chicago memorabilia. The first time someone that knew the staff got their food before I did even after ordering five minutes after me, I thought that it was odd, but figured it must have been something about my order that took longer. Then it happened on each subsequent visit. That's awesome that you take care of your friends.. for your friends, not so awesome for me. The food was good, not going to knock it. However, it seems like new customers aren't that important to them. I have since found a new place right down the road. Atmosphere: 4 Service: 1 Food: 4 Price: 3 Overall: 3

  • Brett F.

Seriously excellent food. Don't mess around with other "Chicago style food" establishments, just come straight here and enjoy anything and everything. I recommend the beef & sausage combo. I don't know how something so decadent could also taste so fresh and light. If they keep up this level of quality, it will fast become an institution of the bay area.

  • Diane H.

I'm a New Yorker that never had a Chicago dog. Ordered the chili dog which was great. I thought calling it a Chicago Dog meant it was served a certain way. They had many ways to order your dog. I like my dog thin with a crisp to the skin. This was perfect. The bun was steamed so it was soft and warm. Small order of potato pancakes on the side was a nice change. I'll be back to try other things.

  • John V.

Best dogs I had in a long time, tasty, and soft bun. I had two dogs with natural casing, fries, and soda for 8 bucks. A little bit pricey so I dropped a star.

  • Barbara L.

I'm on vacation in the area and went there today with a friend who grew up in Chicago. We both crave Italian beef sandwiches - in fact we call it The Sandwich. We both loved it - got the large beef, wet (I added giardiniera) plus a basket of fries. Best I've had in St. Pete - I think I need to go back a few more times before I head back to the world of no Italian beefs (that would be the triangle area of North Carolina) (damn)

Being from New England I enjoyed a different type of hot dog. One that was not all beef, but a combo of beef, pork, and god knows what else. Our favorite brand was Kayem, which has recently been introduced to the TB market. So I've been wanting to try this place for years, today was my lucky day. As I waited in line to order, I was checking out the vast menu, when a voice says " we charge extra for taking too long to order." Meet Bruce the "Mayor" and owner of the establishment, with plenty of Chicago attitude, lol. I ordered a Loaded Chicago Style Hot Dog, and loaded it was. Topped with mustard, relish, diced onions, fresh tomatoes, and cucumbers, a dash of celery salt, hot sport peppers, and a slice of kosher pickle on a steamed poppy seed bun! Wow, what a great tasting dog! I was pressured into ordering some fries also. Freshly made with each order, very good. I ordered a fountain drink, all this came to under $7.00 . An inexpensive filling lunch. I counted 22 different ways you can order a hot dog, I'm sure there are more. They really have much more than hot dogs. Burgers, chicken, corned beef, pastrami, Italian beef, sausage, tamales, soups, and even salads and desserts! While scoffing down my food, I heard someone order their dog with ketchup....someone from the kitchen shouts, "ketchup is for the fries and is on the table,"lol. Yes, I will return to order quickly from the "Mayor" for more dogs done the Chicago Style for sure. ......SOON.

OMG! Amazing! If you love hot dogs this is the place to be! Can't go wrong here and definitely worth checking out. Great food for cheap price! You might just order more than 1 they're that good!

The food here was amazing!! My wife is from Chicago and we have eaten hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches there a lot, the food here was exactly like being back there.. We will definitely be going back regularly.

4 stars seems about right for this experience. First, this is another attempt by someone to bring Chicago to Florida. It's good, but it's not all there. Read my reviews: I've been to those places, recently. First and foremost the Italian beef, then the dogs and sausages, last the fries. You can't bring frozen crinkle fries to the table and pass it off as anything other than cheap. The dogs are good, very good! Sausage needs help, please go find a vendor that sells up north. Lastly the Italian beef, yeah it's good but it's not the same flavor, I'm a purist! It's lost something over the years, probably because people forget their roots when they've been gone for years. My suggestion, take a Chicago tour and come back with a flavor infusion. One last thing it's a Chicago deli, let's fill those baskets, for the prices they charge there is a lot more room for food. Chicagoans bring big appetites.

Apparently calling before to get an order started for lunch means nothing, because they will not start your order until you are there in person and have paid. My wife and I love coming here for the delicious dogs every Wednesday (Wiener Wednesday we call it) and I'll call ahead to get the order started, as we only have a half hour to eat. They will tell me "it'll be ready in 15 minutes" and when we arrive the food won't have even been started, and they have no idea what order is for who. Even after waiting another 20 minutes, still nothing. I have to go and inquire about the status before the lights come on and the apologies pour out. If you say it'll be ready in 15, in 15-20 minutes I expect to be able to eat my food. And the food itself is amazing! I love this place, but the service is just making it not worth it. Might have to try the place down the road with the two ancient people making dogs

I hadn't had a Chicago style Italian Beef sandwich in a few years, until today when I happened to be driving by and decided to stop in and give it a try. I ordered the "mini" 4 oz Italian beef sandwich with the au jus style dipping sauce as well as sweet peppers and onions on top. The bread that it was served on was soft and fresh! Believe me, there is nothing "mini" about this sandwich as I was pretty darn hungry and still couldn't finish the whole thing (but they do offer a 6 oz size if you have a giant appetite or are splitting it). Also came with a side of coleslaw and basket of fries. All this food and a drink cost $9 which was a pretty good deal considering how much food was given. Overall the sammy was pretty good, but it still seemed like it was missing that extra 'zing' that I remembered from many years ago and I can't quite point out what it was. The atmosphere inside is fun, decorated with Chicago memorabilia and souvenirs and plenty of booths/tables to sit inside. The food came up pretty quick within about 5 minutes and it was delicious indeed. They also offer Italian sausage sandwiches and hot dogs, all the classics. Although I wouldn't exactly drive out of my way to go here, I will stop by again next time I'm in the area.

This is the epitome of a joint, and I mean that in the best way. I went with a friend for lunch and enjoyed a salad and fries, while he had tamales. This is not really the place for a vegetarian, at all! The salad was boring and the fries were mediocre. However, I heard that the rest of the menu items, especially the dogs, are incredible. It was nice to grab a beer and sit outside. The décor is nostalgic and I would have loved to have been able to check out all of the photos on the wall, but it was very busy for lunch - which is a good thing! That means good food!

I've passed this place plenty of times and one day decided to try it. This place is very family friendly and the service is fantastic. Now to get to the food, that's great too. It's affordable and delicious. I also like the fact this place is family friendly, which is great when you have a busy toddler! I will most definitely be returning to enjoy more of their food.

Another random stop on Ulmerton and another awesome place for lunch. I've passed by here a couple times and it's kinda hard to miss with the high number of neon signs in the window, so if you see a glow coming from the corner of Belcher and Ulmerton, I recommend you stop in. I've always enjoyed places where you can order from a counter, find a seat and grab your food when it's ready. It did take me a few minutes to soak in the menu on the wall though, as it is extensive and there are a lot of options. I settled on the chili cheese and the Chicago, both steamed, with a side of onion rings. In about 5 minutes, I had my plastic basket of food and it looked pretty damn awesome. And thankfully, it tasted as good as it looked. The steam melts everything, making the bun super soft and keeping the meat moist. Both hot dogs were the best I've had in Tampa. The onions were also above par. They were very crispy with a crunchy, corn meal crust and they were a nice size too. There is no doubt that I'll be swinging by here anytime I'm close to that corner.

If you like hot dogs, this is your place. All kinds - Vienna Beef, Hebrew National all fixed any way you want. Also Brats, "Cheeze Borgers", and corned beef & Pastrami sandwiched. It is a small shop in a strip mall & is loaded with Chicago memorabilia. The owner, Bruce, is friendly to all ages. I have eaten here 8 - 10 times and always look forward to a return visit.

Fun decore. Huge menu, something for everyone. Hot dogs can't be beat. Juicy hamburgers and perfect fries every time, to order. Juicy hot corned beef sandwich is piled high and as good as anywhere. Fun place to go by myself, with a date, or a small group. Bottled beer. If you live or work nearby, you must try this friendly family business. Take out is supurb.

OMD (that is OH MY DOG)!!! You know you are in a five star hotdog joint when you can't stop ordering. OMD!! This place has a Coney Island feel with its red and orange colors. The staff wears red chef hats and bright blue smocks. The walls are covered in memorabilia!. Be patient it is good. OMD!! The seating is almost all booths going straight back along the ordering station and kitchen. All the dogs are prepared to order. Five stars because I ordered one and knew immediately I had to have the second one. My first dog was the #20 Hebrew National Kosher Dog with mustard and sauerkraut on a poppy seed bun. There is that taste about a hotdog with all its saltiness and the meat bursting with juice. Well this was more amazing than I had experienced or I just had not had a really good hotdog in long time. The topping of the sauerkraut and mustard really made the dog complete. At this point, I was really ready for another dog and wanted to try another menu item. I tried the #15 ¼ Lb Foot Long Hotdog topped with chili, onions, and mustard. Wow, with all these flavors it was like heaven. Only this time they had mercy on me and gave me a knife. Being foot long you would think it would take twice as long; honestly, it was so good I think I finished before the first. I definitely plan on recommending this as a lunch stop at work. This goes beyond (way beyond) "yay, I am a fan" truly this is "As good as it gets!" OMD

Breaking News! OK, so it is more like slightly old news by now. Bruce has expanded his original location, doubling the seating area. Everything is freshly scrubbed, painted, and decorated with the requisite Chicago memorabilia and what I'll refer to as "hot dog" colors. I recently learned that what I had always thought were Vienna Beef dogs are actually Red Hot Chicago dogs. The spousal unit says he thinks Vienna Beef are better, but I'm fine with either one. Bruce maintains that the Red Hots are superior. He does use other Vienna Beef products in the restaurant. Bruce's Chicago Grill & Dog House is in an older, non-descript strip mall shared with a few small businesses and Carmelita's Mexican Restaurant. Please stop in and give it a try. I know it will immediately become one of your favorite haunts.

Wife and I went here for the first time yesterday for lunch. Nice decor friendly service. I had two Chicago dogs, small chili cheese fries and a diet coke. Wife had one foot long, a bag of chips and tap water, Total charge $19. and change. Chicago dogs were nothing impressive. Soggy buns. Over cooked dogs. Fries we decent but they give you a small container of chili and soft serve cheese to dip your fries in. I wasn't impressed with the experience. We won't be returning.

Love this place!! Been more times then I can remember, and I always get the same Chicago style dog and fries. Amazing! Always so happy to visit when I'm in the area!
