This place was my first Cuban food experience. When I moved to South Florida I had heard bunches about Cuban food because well... there's lots of Cubans here! I really didn't know what to expect of Cuban food and no one could give me a good description of it.. so with this limited knowledge I went to El Bohio. The ambiance of the place is small, cute, eclectic and homey. There's two parts to it: the outside bar and the inside restaurant. I'm pretty sure you could get food in either place but we chose to eat inside. There's a few tables and a TV that was playing some show about shark attacks. The service was friendly (albeit all in Spanish but luckily my whole table either understood or spoke Spanish) and quick which I appreciated. I'll definitely come back to El Bohio again. Oh, wait, what? Did you think I left something out? Silly. Of course I wouldn't fail to mention the food! It was DELICIOUS! I didn't know that Cuban food would be so flavorful. I ate the Churrasca (skirt steak) with plantains, white rice and black beans. I've had other types of churrasca before but I thought this was amazingly flavorful... especially the chimichurri sauce. Even though it was really strong w/ garlic and vinegar flavor I liked it! I put so much sauce on my steak that I think the vinegar wreaked havoc on my intestines. Despite my intestinal fight I still would absolutely eat here again to try more food. The prices are great too! So definitely come here! Oh and on Fridays they have live music which is awesome as well.

Everything was great here until the bill came and we discovered the two female servers were not only charging above and beyond the prices listed on the menu, but also including a 25% tip for themselves on top of that (and no, that is NOT legal when its only a party of three. This is not Miami)! I'll go back but not while these two little scammers are there. Until then, it's Havana at Forest Hill and Dixie gets all my business!

Been here twice because I was told its the best in the area. The first time we went, the Cuban sandwich I had tasted like a gas station sandwich and the lemonade was like crystal light. I was assured that it was a one time thing so we went back a second time and found it be just as disappointing. Bottom line, it's ghetto food so go a few miles up the road to the Havana Cafe and get something satisfying to eat.

Good food and large portions. Black beans and rice is on point and the Cuban espresso is delicious. Glad I found this place.

Nice little place to stop for a cheap and cheerful snack. I had a Cuban sandwich which had pork and ham with mustard on fresh home made bread, which was delicious. The sandwich was very hot - be careful not to burn your mouth! Service was both quick and friendly. I'd definitely go back when in the area.

I really wanted to like my food but it just wasn't good. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and the shrimp ceviche. The sandwich wasn't that good, the shrimp tasted fishy and old. My friends ordered the Cuban coffee and said it was watered down. They couldn't even finish it. To top of off, the service sucked.

Service can be slow, but food and coffee is well worth it. The goat was particularly good

I asked for a medium steak but It came out well cooked. The rice tasted like it was there for 2 days.

Should have looked at yelp before stopping in but didnt. Asked the hostess behind the counter how big the empanadas were because I wasnt sure if I should order one or two at $4 each. She motions that theyre about yay big- like five inches max. So I figure I'll need two. WRONGO! The things were like eight inches long and pretty wide and filled. I could have paid for one and it would have been enough. Suckered. I didnt like the shrimp anyway- little tiny uncleaned shrimp in some red sauce- the shrimp tasted more fishy than I like. My husband had some tiny plain piece of mahi with white rice, beans and plantains. The food is not good, the service not great and they add on a service charge... waitress wasnt even friendly or warm and if you look at all the pics on Yelp the presentation is amateurish to downright gross. Wouldnt return.

The food is awlays yummy... I love the surrounding, an awesome old south florida feel... Keep in mind they are located 100 ft from the train tracks.

This little stand is a great place to stop in for some lunch or a snack. I went there once for a chocolate shake and then again for lunch. I had the garlic shrimp with sweet plantains and cleared my plate. We finished up with a 3 leches cake and it too was awesome. I'd gladly return if in the area again.

I used to eat here all the time for authentic Cuban food and it used to be awesome. They must have a new cook because the food was not as fresh and tasty as it used to be :(

The place is a little hole in the wall. I highly recommend the coffee, it's strong and taste great. Get a colada or cortadito coffee. Food it's also delicious, don't expect luxury but expect good food and pleasant environment

If this place was in Miami it would close in a heartbeat. Awful food and service. Stay away.

Stay away! Bad food and the two rudest servers you will ever encounter. They over charged us - the food was horrid and they were awful . Coming from fellow Cubans stay away. Run for your life! The servers were not attentive, rude and making fun of customers. Don't go!!!

Worst experience in a long time!! Food is so bland and disgusting! Gross. What a waste of money. The white rice might as well be cardboard. The bacon my bf ordered practically turned to dust when he bit into it because it was so overdone.

The food here is very authentic and the service is great, the waitresses were so nice. I had a great pollo a la plancha, with very nice passion fruit juice, I would definitely come here again and bring my family next time. Would give it six stars if I could!

Very authentic country Cuban with great open air patio! My last taste of Cuba before heading back to diversity free zone in Utah! Sad!

Way too expensive for the food. I either get the Cuban which has pork in it , or the steak sandwich which is pretty good. However, Havana in West Palm Beach has the same thing, but better for a lesser price! They charge an arm and a leg for rice and beans..food is pretty good but the price is outrageous! The girls at the window are sweet though!

Cuban sandwiches are different in a really good way. That way I can get something different than the delicious Cuban sandwiches at Little Havana when I am in Lantana. Lots of negative feedback, can't really speak to that, but I only order the Cuban sandwiches, and they are good!!! I guess, check your bill, order what is good, and enjoy the tiny outdoor patio on a scorching summer day. Don't be in a hurry, and chill out.

If you are looking for true Cuban/Latin food, this is NOT it. Red beans watery and flavorless; yellow rice, OK The pork? totally missed the flavor boat and their empanadas and "pastries" the same...bland and low quality. I was expecting better for their high price given location. Will I return, NO. I'll keep driving to Miami if in dire desire for real Latin flavors.

  • Alla S.

Food was bland. Palomilla steak was hard to chew and lacked flavor. The price of Palomilla on our check was higher than on the menu, but I was ready to go. Will not go back to the dining room, maybe will try something else at the takeout window one more time, but unlikely. Too bad, because I live in the area.

Overpriced, wanna be Cuban food. I have no idea how this place stays in business. Do yourself a favor and head down Dixie to Havana. The food is way better and much less expensive.

Stumbled/Came here out of random hunger while doing a late run at Walgreens across the street.. Bought a beef empanada for $2.50, and a guanabana smoothie for $4 and my bill was $7.20?? Anyways took off a star for that... But the empanada was pretty good and the smoothie was delicious. They don't really speak English here well at least, but really nice and friendly. Service was quick, served me even at 9:58 pm! Will def be coming back but will be mindful of my bill next time.

I loved this place. El Bohio means The Hut in spanish, and that's exactly what it is...a little hut in the middle of a parking lot. We went at night which I guess softened the ghetto-look, but once inside, the staff were very warm and friendly. My mom was visiting from NY (we are Puerto Rican), and we love Cuban food. We had a wonderful time and the service was quick and the food was very yummy. I had the Chicken w/Onions w/white rice and red beans; my mom had the Grouper fish with shrimp in garlic sauce w/white rice and black beans; my wife had the fried pork chops and white rice with black beans. We also had tostones and maduros on the side, with flan for dessert. It was all very yummy! The only drawback was their seating. They have bar tables (very high up) in the air with bar seats, and tables within. When we went, there were only three other couples there, seated at tables that accommodate four (but they were not together), and two tables put together for a larger party, and a table for two. Being that the four-seaters were already taken by the other couples, we asked to sit at the larger seating table, and was told that if a large party came in, we would HAVE TO GET UP TO OUR TABLE TO THEM!!! So, I didn't want that, so we sat in the two seater table and were crowded in there, but they were very attentive and cleared up our tables of any dishes they saw we weren't "using". Didn't try the empanadas or cuban sandwiches that other yelpers complained about, but the food that we did have was delicious. It was a tropical breeze kinda night, and with the open storefront that they have, it was like sitting out in the tropics having a nice dinner. I would recommend it.

Love to stop by for to-go food. We have a cold beer while we wait and people watch out front. We meet some of the nicest people here and our Spanish continues to get better the more we go. They have a great Cuban sandwich and the plantains are done just right. Occassionally, we go into the small dining room for dinner. The Two Brothers meal is quite good (steak and chicken in a cream sauce, served with rice and beans). We were surprised by a tip already on the bill for our table for four one time too. I don't know if that's a cultural difference or what, but it is something I would caution you to watch for.

Best plaintains north of Cuba! This place is a hidden gem in an unsuspecting shopping plaza. Great Cuban food, fast service, reasonable prices. The only reason it didn't give it five stars is because there isn't much of an eating area. We usually call ahead and get takeout. Generally they tell us we can pick up 10 minutes after we order. They have been working on a small outside eating area with misters to take the edge off of the summer heat. They also offer live latin music on weekends. They recently stopped accepting American Express, which is a bummer, but other cards are accepted.

If you want the pinnacle of Cuban cuisine, Versailles in Miami is probably the knockout champion. BUT...if you don't mind a dive, and parking lot restaurants don't scare you, give Bohio a shot - you won't regret it. I LOVE THIS PLACE - I really do. OK, I'm a regular guy who was raised protestant and suffered through many years of my grandmother's overcooked pork chops and mom's tuna casserole (sorry Mom- I love you) ; strangely enough I know Cuban food. This white boy, originally from Queens, NY, happens to have a Cuban grandmother by marriage living a few blocks from 8th St in Miami. Grandma Isadora is schizophrenic and believes that the FBI has developed an odorless gas that was specifically designed to only attack her particular DNA and is being pumped into her yard by the neighbors for the past twenty years to slowly kill her. She may enjoy watching the turtles fly overhead, but the woman can cook her heart out. Bohio is the closest thing I have found to one of her meals and at least I don't have to help her silicone the screen door shut after dinner to keep the gasses out (seriously). When I suggest Bohio's built in a parking lot, I mean it. It feels like a crew spent a weekend building a makeshift restaurant in the middle of a parking lot at night when no one was looking. Some of the walls are made of the same plastic crisscross fencing used to keep a dog from escaping a yard so you can see through them. It's a bit dirty inside and will probably scare many people off. Sometimes there is a waitress, other times you order at a little window to the kitchen which reminds me of the food truck that Tony Montana worked at in Scarface before he got his first big break with Omar (Omar was later hung from a helicopter by Mr. Sosa for being an informant). Cold beer, good food, dirt cheap - enough said? I don't think I'd take anyone here on a fist date, and you may want to brush up on your Spanish, but if you have a bit of adventure in your heart and can simply smile at the fact that there is a restaurant that appears to be thrown together in the middle of a parking lot like a converted Farm-Store, you are in for quite a surprise. I have eaten here four or five times and have never been disappointed; if anything I always leave with a smile. Bohio doesn't pretend to be anything special - it doesn't try and fool you with atmosphere, the decor blows, it's often crowded, and you may run into your landscaping crew eating here ( I did). If anything, I think it's a good sign. My father used to tell me that if I ever wanted to find a good meal on the road traveling north or south on 1-95 between Florida and NY, look for a big truck stop with many rigs parked. Truckers are constantly on the road, like to keep their budget down and can actually be picky eaters. Similarly, if you find a Cuban restaurant packed with locals, I think it's also a good sign. Bohio is just that kind of place - a locals haven that will fill your belly, leave a smile on your face, and barely a dent in your wallet. I'll be back again and again. :) I'm sure that some folks will be turned off by the atmosphere and overall "feel" of the place and will review it badly for that reason. Give it a try and have reasonable expectations and I'm sure they will be exceeded. I really wanted to give it four stars but it just wouldn't be fair to other restaurants I've reviewed, so just pretend I did.

Since the Caribbean place was closed we ended up wandering into this place. I happen to love Cuban coffee, I ordered Cuban coffee and the coffee came after about a half hour and it was at room temperature. I like my coffee HOT. We order lunch, we sat and sat and sat, Half hour later the coffee arrives that was terrible, so I sent it back, and requested for a hot coffee without all the froth, the waitress then brought back the same coffee (I see the lipstick marks) with hot water added to it. Our lunch took over an hour. The food was mediocre. If you go here, check your bill carefully, they charge you more for everything than what is listed on their menu!! Overall, stay away from here, there are PLENTY of good Cuban restaurants in this area.

I eat here whenever I have visitors. If I ate here whenever I wanted to, I'd gain 50lb.. The cafe con leche is as good as any I've tasted. The pork sandwich is just plain tasty. Lobster empanada is a deal, as are the croquettes. As for the fried sweet plantains, it's the first thing anyone I've taken there asks for when they return, which is ALWAYS. The girls working here have always greeted me with a big smile, and are pleasant and helpful. It's just a nice, fun place to enjoy a good meal. You can eat inside, or on the side, or take out. Every restaurant should be so consistently satisfying.

They've done a great job of fixing up the place. Food as always is cooked to order and "sabrosa".

Simple bare bones Cuban restaurant. Daily Lunch specials are traditional and really affordable. Sandwiches, plantains and a walk up window for easy ordering and Cuban cafe.

If you plan to stop here try the sandwiches! We decided to try the lunch specials and found them to be prepared to a low standard. The staff were rude, and I found it difficult to even consider ordering another beer due to the poor attitude. Just avoid it.
