Do not let the appearance fool you. This place has great food. Awesome Cuban sandwiches, great chicken & yellow rice and awesome black beans. This is a great place to visit for lunch because they are super fast. Also, in my opinion, BEST sugar cookies in town. You MUST try them even if you don't go for the food... and buy more than one or you'll wish you had!

One of the famous dives of Lakeland. Bring cash and don't expect to be catered to by the servers. You better know what you want and fast! But it's a great place for lunch. The food is good, the price is cheap and the service is fast. You can get a very good half of a cuban and cup of black beans and rice for $5.00. Their papas rellenas is YUM. Really great basic cuban food, which is one of my favorite things about living in Florida.

Not a good place for vegetarians. The only sandwich option is a cheese sandwich, which is literally piles of cheese with lettuce and tomato on bread. It's way too much cheese, and just is very uninteresting. Most places at least offer a veggie sandwich, but this place does not. Almost impossible for a vegan to eat here as well.

I was very disappointed with Silver Ring Café. I tried the Cuban Sandwich, Black Bean Soup, and the Deviled Crab. The sandwich was ok but nothing special. The sandwich itself did not have much flavor and you could get a better sandwich at most any other restaurant or grocery store in the area. The black bean soup was watery and mushy. The deviled crab was doughy and didn't have any flavor; I could not tell if there was any crab in it at all. The filling appeared to be 90% diced onions. These foods are a staple of the Tampa Bay area and there are much better options nearby.

Total dive but delicious sandwiches. The Cuban Special is great, available in 5", 8" or 10" sizes. I like mine warm pressed. They also have a lunch special combo deal. Nice place to stop in if you're strolling around downtown. Cash only and street parking. Also tried the Hot Devil Crab Roll but didn't love it.

Ordered a pork sandwich from here and did not receive what I expected. I've never ordered a Cuban-style pork sandwich and received what looked like sliced ham. I know that ham is pork, but there is a difference to me. I expected pulled pork. I don't know, maybe it's my Cuban roots or maybe I'm just picky, probably both, but I was very disappointed and even a little disgusted. I gave my sandwich away because there was no way I would eat it. I have ordered the yellow rice before and this second time was much better than the first, but it's still not authentic. The taste of the rice is wonderful, but Cubans do not cook their rice to be all smudged together/ mushy. I would order the rice again though. I feel like people who eat here and enjoy the food must not know what real, authentic Cuban food is. I'm not saying that everything is bad, but from both items I've ordered, this is what I'm forming my opinion off of. Gave 2 stars because the rice is pretty good aside from the mushy-ness. Both times I've ordered has been take-out and picked up by a co-worker.

The food is fairly good for a fair price.. But I won't eat there again because I've gotten hairs in two sandwiches I've gotten from there to take home. They were blonde hairs and my family is all brunette, including my dog. That's the worst thing to be eating a yummy sandwich and then pull a hair out of your mouth. No thanks!

The Silver Ring Café is another famous Cuban food joint in Lakeland, and has been around for quite a long time. This is the same Silver Ring that started serving Cuban sandwiches in Ybor City 50 years ago. I will say that until Elena's Cuban Cafe came along to challenge them, they were it in terms of Cuban food. I've been eating here since I was a kid and they have an appealing, but limited menu. Basically they specialize in Cuban staples like the Cuban sandwich, chicken & yellow rice, stuffed potato balls, etc. They make their $ on the lunch crowd; especially in this downtown location. Their lunch specials like a half a cuban sandwich, drink and cup of either black beans and rice or spanish garbanzo bean soup sells like hot cakes during the weekday lunch crowd. The service here is top notch and very fast. If you're on a lunch break, you will always be served and have time to eat with time to spare. The only odd thing, and it's a Silver Ring thing, is that their Cuban sandwich has cold cut meats including salami, which is definitely not a traditional Cuban sandwich. The restaurant is fairly clean, but you may have to wait or ask to get your table wiped clean from the crumbs of the last party sitting there. Nevertheless, a great place to eat and a Lakeland fixture downtown.

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. I don't see what the hype is. I would rather wait for better quality food than have my food microwaved and given to me fast. My sandwich was cold. A bit of an inconvience that they only take cash. Not sure if I would give this place another chance

Basically a diner specializing in Cuban food. Menu very limited so if you don't want a quick sandwich with some Spanish or Black bean soup, try someplace else!

Their Cubans utilize cold cuts, not roast pork. The chicken and yellow rice was very bland and mushy; tasted like it was made yesterday and reheated. Service was good, the tea was decent. The best thing about the place is the value. The daily special of a half Cuban, black beans and rice for $6, but make sure you bring cash.

How do places stay in business when they dont accept plastic? my pressed sandwich was cold at it's core. that was not the fault of having to walk up the block to spend 23 dollars for a cold 5 dollar sandwich. not cool. she was having a "long slow day" because no one goes there anymore.

My favorite lunch spot in Lakeland (I visit at least once a week)! Sweet tea, pressed Cuban, black beans and rice for about $6. You can not go wrong. Bring cash, because plastic is not accepted in this original Lakeland establishment. The waitresses are the hardest working in Lakeland and the owner is a great guy and is on site most days. NOTE: this is a dive, but ohh so good.
