We sat outside and at times it felt like there was a penalty (in service) for doing so. Food was decent, portions were less than anticipated, but it did feel like a tourist trap.

Delicious food, great staff, welcoming atmosphere, and did we mention delicious food? Spot on experience! Definitely going back!

Excellent food and excellent service. I have tried the fish tacos, the fish and chips, and the the crab cake sandwich, and the gumbo and all were awesome. All of their food is reasonably priced which can be difficult when it come to sea food. Will definitely be back again next time I'm in Lakeland and I look forward to exploring the rest of their menu.

My favorite casual seafood place in Polk County. Service is always exceptional and there usually is not a long wait. I also love the location in Lakeside Village. My favorite menu item is the fish tacos! I can't eat a the whole portion so I order the 1/2 portion and walk away happy. I also love their fried shrimp and shrimp tacos. Clam Chowder is very good as well. I'm not a big fish eater but my daughter has tried some of the fresh catch items and has always been happy. They always have several fresh catch items to choose from each day. Oh and the fish and chips is really good as well!

We had a girl's day at the lakeside village getting manis and pedis. Afterwards stopped in for lunch at fish city grille. I haven't eaten there in years because the food wasn't that great the first time. I don't know if management has changed or what but it was a totally different experience yesterday. The food was delicious! And fresh! It came out fast and the service was great :)

A very special and unique place. Small, but not too small.. Let's say cozy.. Which I love! Great food, fantastic service. Very, very friendly staff. I love seafood but this place puts a casual, friendly spin on seafood that really works and distinguishes it from the pack. Love the fish tacos and the oyster nachos! But everything I've ever had was great! Nice bar, great food and a very fun and satisfying experience, definitely nothing but positive things to say. This place most definitely is on my list of favorite places to eat. If you like seafood and want an enjoyable experience.. Don't hesitate to give Fish City a try! Did I say I love this place? :)

My wife and I have been to this Fish City Grill three times now and have really enjoyed it every time. The service and quality are both very good for a moderately priced restaurant. The bloody Mary's are wonderful and each one is garnished with a large shrimp that really complements the flavor of their homemade bloody Mary mix. For appetizers we have usually ordered the fried dill pickles which are nice and sour and crispy with a tasty dipping sauce. For entrées, I have enjoyed their fried catfish and their fried shrimp which are both very lightly battered and nicely crispy. Their boiled crawfish was also very good and nicely spiced. My wife has ordered their grilled salmon couple of times and has really enjoyed it. For dessert we recommend the key lime pie.

The service and food was very good and the food came out in a short time. It was a nice visit and we are coming back

Went on a Monday. So it was not that busy. So when the manager /owner came over it wasn't a surprise until I found out he does this no matter how busy they are. Great food and my wife enjoyed the wine. Pricing did not hurt at all. Fun place on the circle, by the fountain, in Lakeside village

  • Doris W.

Excellent! Our party has never bad piece of fish here. Desserts are great too.

  • Sarah K.

Good place. Food was just okay. I didn't find anything special. The portion sizes were good. I think there might be better fish places out there

My favorite food in Lakeland. Amazing new specials all the time, terrific service, kid friendly... oyster nachos, yum! Shrimp tacos, yum! Couldn't say enough :)

Sad they no longer have the Shrimp and Andouille Sausage Mac n Cheese but they have some awesome Fish n Chips meal!! Super delicious!

  • Paul R.

Fish tacos burned on the bottoms. 2nd Beverage order delivered after meal was completed.

  • Liane J.

Had the fish tacos & they happily subbed the fried tilapia for grilled. Very tasty! The marinade on the vegetables was wonderful. Didn't care for the coleslaw too much. It says it's Apple cider vinegar which I couldn't taste at all but it's full of green peppers which are not my fave. My dining companion had the fish & chips which were great as well. Overall a good experience.

I've been in town a week and this place was able to entice me twice. The first time I had a scampi style lobster special with seasoned shrimp. All cooked to perfection, just a little unnecessary that they included cocktail sauce for seasoned shrimp and butter for already buttered lobster. Didn't use either and dinner was delicious. Went again and had perfect scallops. Can fit any budget.

I have had lunch here once for the first time about a month ago I ordered the fish taco platter it was very good but the only thing I didn't like was that people seated after me got there food first and tacos are messy so why would the waitress only give you two napkins at a time I was so pissed due to the fact they act like those thin napkins were coming out of there checks and when I asked for a refill of soda the waitress response was huh I will not be coming back no time soon

  • Alisa L.

Get the Gumbo and the cole slaw!!! Very attentive staff and everything was served hot! Good prices on happy hour, but the margaritas were a little small compared to other places. We'll be back when in the area!

    (4)
  • Katie T.

Perfect lunch! Great service (ask for Classy) and great food (honey shrimp tacos). The happy hour menu looked like a bargain, we will be back later for that!

There's dessert for your eyes and dessert for your taste buds too! Excellent brownie sundae!

We were in town for a few days and stayed in the nearby hotel so we decided to try out the restaurants within walking distance. Fish City Grill looked like a good lunch spot so we gave it a try our last day there. Staff was very friendly but it seemed like there was only one girl to be hostess and waitress the the whole place. As more patrons came in the longer it would be before we'd see her at our table. Clam chowder was excellent. I also tried a catfish po'boy and although it tasted good - the piece of catfish was insanely small and thin. Usually catfish is pretty good size and no joke, if it was bigger than 2.5 inches wide and 1/4 inch thick I'd be shocked. The Tomato slices were as thick as the fish... It was disappointing. What was there tasted very good... But there certainly wasn't much to it.

They do things right. No matter what you order it is some of the best seafood you'll ever find. Service is always great and we try to eat here at least once a week. I can truthfully say we've never had a bad experience since we've been eating here since they opened some years back. This is a real tribute to the owner and his staff.

comfortable setting, provides excellent fish in a varied menu. Reasonably priced for a quality restaurant in Lakeland the service is very good and friendly for many different groups or couples. Highly recommended.

  • Elaine C.

My husband and I were traveling through Lakeland and thought this looked like a good place for lunch. We both had the fish tacos made with tilapia. Best fish tacos I have ever had! Served with a wonderful chipotle tartar sauce. Would definitely come back.

  • Betty R.

I would haven given this 4 stars if the service wasn't slow and the hostess wasn't extremely rude. Had dinner here this evening. I was happy with my blackened catfish and cheesey grits, but my work colleague wasn't crazy about the grilled tacos. Someone else got the shrimp tacos and thought they were really good. I'd probably give it another shot to redeem itself

  • Fish T.

Salmon was amazing. Veggies and rice was quite the healthily treat. Deserts on it's way!

    (5)
  • Alysia G.

Perfect if you want seafood but want a casual atmosphere. We got the crab boil for 4 people and had a ridiculous amount of food leftover that they gladly boxed up and sent home with us. Great value for your money, and the food was excellent. We all ordered drinks and they did not disappoint. I'd choose this place anytime over a more formal seafood place!

  • Richard B.

My wife and I have been here 4 times in the past year. we find the food always good and the servers friendly. The wine portion is an ounce short but at $3 one can not complain. However the price has shot up this year. The mahi with two sides is now $19 but still very good. The crab cake sandwich is special and with an $11 price tage may be the best bargain on the menu. We will continue to frequent the place, just not as often as when the prices were in our usual budget. Bonefish is a better deal but the crowds during the winter are overwhelming.

Grabbed a quick bite for lunch. Staff was friendly. Service was prompt. Mahi tacos were tasty.

First time visit to Fish City Grill. Food was good, service was quite slow for a night when the restaurant was not half full. Waitress was very friendly and apologized for the slow service.

One of our favorite places. Love the fish tacos and crab cakes.

Two stars because the food was not bad and the service was not terrible. They did royally screw up and not even offer to make amends for it. Six of us sat down on our lunch break at 12:15. Orders in shortly after (3 of us had the crab cake sandwich). About 15 mins later all the food comes out except for my crab cake sandwich. "The kitchen didn't put it on, it will just be a few minutes." About 20 mins later mine arrives, just in time for a) everyone else to have finished and b) enough time for me to literally swallow it whole and STILL make everyone late for our afternoon meeting (I was driving). You'd think they'd be apologetic or even comped my $12 meal. I honestly was about to cancel and go get a taco next door to eat on the way back to the office. What makes me angry is I saw them bring a crab cake sandwich to a lady who had ordered quite a bit AFTER us (shouldn't that have been mine - and she got that about 10 minutes into my 20 minute wait?). It was an awkward and unpleasant meal for the whole table as they felt bad to be eating, I was starving, and we didn't get a single "sorry" and our waitress dodged our table knowing I was sitting there with five people around me eating, clearly in a rush. Also, they screwed up the billing at the end and that took some time to fix. Did not enjoy my experience and certainly won't be back.

First time there and we really enjoyed it. Had great appetizers and a great meal. Will definitely go again. Reasonably priced.

Went on a Friday night, was pretty crowded so I sat at the bar. Had the Cobb salad on recommendation of the bartender and it was excellent. The produce was all fresh, real bacon, and the shrimp were cooked great. Have to mention the service too, I was pretty thirsty and the bartender made sure my glass was filled as fast as I could drink it.

    (4)
  • Jason D.

One of the best places to visit, in my opinion, in town. Especially the outstanding soups. A pretty well-run place, reasonably priced - we'd definitely recommend trying it.

Two of us decided to try out the Fish City Grill at Lakeside Village this evening. I'm not drawn to seafood places, but we looked at a take-out menu before being seated and it looked as though they had a few turf options. The staff was courteous and efficient. An early stop to the men's room was puzzling: there was no urinal, just two stalls. Was this based on some weird local code or did it portend an unhappy end to the evening? The sink was at an odd angle. You can chose between looking straight in the mirror while standing in front of an angled sink or standing with one's back to a stall wall and not looking into the mirror correctly. Just weird. I ordered a blackened chicken Caesar salad and a basket of waffle fries. The chicken was spicy and not really blackened (but tasty). The salad had a bit too much dressing so that the last bits were drowning in it. The waffled fries were okay. My dining companion ordered oyster nachos and crab legs; the report on that order was very positive. Out total bill (sans tip) was just over $41. We'd hit it again.

Sweet tea, Shrimp and Grits and Key Lime Pie. It doesn't get more Southern than that unless I added a Hurricane or a Mint Julep. Any who, the best part of my meal was the Florida native, the Key Lime pie. Having spent many years living across the South, I have enjoyed many a meal of Shrimp and Grits. Please take a tip from Paula Dean's Uncle Bubba on the Shrimp and Grits. Never had such dry grits but especially with cilantro. Not parsley, but cilantro! I hope that was a mistake in the kitchen. The Shrimp and Grits were poor. The tea was good and the Key Lime pie was outstanding! I would go back as there were some really intriguing fish and seafood dishes on the menu. However, skip the Shrimp and Grits. Makes me sad :(.

  • Jerry G.

Didn't like it. I'm not sure what else to say. I'm not a fish person, but there is non-fish meals on the menu like most seafood places, so I ordered chicken. My wife ordered tilapia, I believe - all I know is that while she was eating it she kept saying "I've never seen it this color before!" The food was nothing special, and for the same price we could go to Bonefish which has MUCH better food, in our opinion. Or just head to one of the coasts and get fresh seafood.

    (2)
  • Glenn M.

I ordered grouper from the board. Wow the best cooked fish I ever had in my 57 years!

    (5)
  • Joe S.

Went here with my parents and we all loved this place. The clam chowder tastes very rich and hearty. I also ordered the blackened mahi mahi that was on the board, and it was delicious. My dad ordered the fish tacos, and those were super tasty. My mom had a salad, and she seemed to really enjoy it. Overall, a very good meal at a reasonable price. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the waitress didn't refill our drinks for quite a long time. I will definitely return and try some of their other board and menu items.

I decided to taste test Fish City Grill at Lakeside Village, 1 pm Tuesday lunch and I had the place to myself. It's a "fun" decorated little place in fishes, of course. Friendly efficient staff. Comfortable booths, spacious room, chalkboard with six specials, large menu. Many of the lunch options were $10, but you could find a coupla $7 options and lots of appetizers or sides. (a little expensive for frequent dining in my book) I ordered an $8 special--herb-crusted tilapia with pico cream sauce. It comes with rice & veggies. I substituted gumbo & salad for $1.25 each more, making it a $10.50 deal with a $2 Diet Coke, pre-tip. I found the meal heavenly, worth the treat, and a nice experience. The gumbo was more "New Orleans" (sausage, okra, brown roux) than "Bahamian" (fish flavored, red roux), a little salty for me, but good. The salad was large and had a delicious shallot vinaigrette. The fish was grilled, nicely crusted, moist and the sauce added to the dish. 4-star 8-9-2011 Return visit. Had a great grilled tilapia, my guest had fried oysters--liked them but likes Catfish Country's better. Our veggies (squash, zucc, red pepper) were cooked to perfection. Apple cider cole slaw was a nice change (but doesn't beat Catfish Country). Our bill was $25 with water beverage. Nice the place does not smell fishy and that service is attentive, quick. Great and varied menu. This should be a regular stop for "fish people". 4-star 12-27-13. I dropped them one star. Sat me at a sticky table--with no intention to wipe clean until I said something. Place is getting expensive--cheapest lunch meal is about $9, most "specials" are about $13. I ordered a $4 salad and a $4 cup of soup. The salad was small and overly dressed without impressive flavor. The cup of soup was 50% rice on the bottom with the brown roux atop it. It said "chicken, shrimp, sausage" but only the roux itself made it to my cup. Nicely spicy but didn't feel I got much for my money on today's visit.

The first few times my wife and I went we loved it. Great food and a reasonable price. We always ate off the specials menu and were never disappointed. However, the last two times we went we were less impressed, and the prices have gone up. The food is still ok, but not great.

  • Rich F.

If you love seafood but don't want the expense and formality of a Bonefish Grille or Legal Seafood, then Fish City Grill fits the bill quite nicely. The seafood offerings were a mix of the familiar and offbeat, with some cajun flair thrown in as well.

  • Jessica W.

We decided on Fish City Grill for dinner on Tuesday evening. Despite being called "Fish City Grill" there are plenty of choices for the non-fish loving diner. I had the Cajun Chicken Pasta (I substituted chicken for shrimp). It was tasty, but had a red seasoning (Cajun seasoning perhaps?) all over the top of the dish. It made me question my choice at first, but after taking a bite, I discovered it was OK to eat - a little messy, but OK. My husband ordered the shrimp basket. It came with a ton of waffle fries and plenty of shrimp. I found the shrimp to be good, but some people might think there's not enough breading on them. The staff was pleasant. We chose to sit outside to listen to the Christmas music and watch the holiday shoppers. Overall, the food was good. I would probably eat here again simply because of the location in Lakeside Village, but the next time I go, I am going to try the Cream of Roasted Jalapeno Soup! Or a Po' Boy...

While doing some shopping in the neighborhood, I decided to have lunch at Fish City Grill. Best decision! It was happy hour so I tried their Bloody Mary and it was fantastic! I ordered the shrimp tacos (recommended by my waiter) and it was delicious! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The ambient was laid back and the place super clean! Great staff, fantastic food and wonderful ambiance . . . what else can you asked for?!

  • Sandi F.

Kale, quinoa and salmon salad, but they so graciously subbed grilled shrimp for the salmon! Fried catfish and oysters were very good, and again they subbed the fries for vegetables with graciousness. Sydney was a great server. Loved the clam chowder!!!!

  • Travis J.

This is my second time at Fish City Grill and I am thrilled to be here. The food is fantastic. For my first time they brought out a sampler of all their soups and let me say they were all amazing. The Oyster Nachos are phenomenal and I highly recommend them. In fact they are so good that I don't want to eat the last one because I never want them to end. Tonight I got the Horseradish Crusted Arctic Char with Chipotle Mustard Cream. It too was Fantastic. I will definitely be back here again. I already know what I want to order next time. If your looking for seafood in he area go to Fish City Grill!

Great seafood and service at a reasonable price. We've been back several times and have enjoyed both good food and great service. They have great fish and chips, plus the Sunday brunch is awesome as well.

This was my first visit and I was treated with a Welcome Wagon. This teaser was but a brief glimpse of just how good the food is. The staff couldn't have treated me nicer, even if I was famous for pulling a little girl out of a well.

Love love love the fish tacos !!!! Good service great food! Always a good experience. It's always clean too!

Love this place! Always a go-to when in Lakeland. Excellent service and unique, delicious menu items. Great Clam Chowder & the Roasted Jalapeño Soup is worth a try. The Honey Chipotle Shrimp Tacos are amazing, as are the Fish Tacos. Key Lime Pie was delicious - a perfect combo of creamy and tart. The Waffle Fries could have been crispier, they were a little soft. We also ordered a half dozen raw oysters to start. Just a note that they weren't fully shucked and I got a few tiny shell pieces in my shooter each time. Very fresh though.

  • Cyndi W.

FRESH and delicious food. Fish tacos and shrimp tacos are fantastic; the cheese grits are my favorite! I think the prices are a little high, but then again, it's all fresh!

I'll bump up my review to 5 stars for a couple of reasons: the owner reached out to me after my last review, which I thought was awesome. It shows a real concern for the customer and I appreciate that. Secondly, I went back the other day and service was great - were in and out in about 45 minutes which is helpful on a workday lunch break. I'm a fan of FCG - their food is consistently awesome, and I'm happy to patronize a place that's got an owner who stands behind their establishment.

This place was good. A place where you can come for lunch and dinner. I enjoyed the service as well as the food

    (4)
  • Megan W.

The crab cake sandwich wasn't bad. It was on the salty side, which is pretty typical for a place like this (mediocre). The waffle fries were way over cooked, dry and hard to chew. The service was friendly, but ultimately the food just wasn't good enough to reel me back in. Get it? Reel...FISH City. Thumbs down overall.

What a surprise. We walked past this place a half dozen times before today without a second thought. For what ever reason we decided today was the day to try it out. I really expected a mediocre seafood chain restaurant. We were pleased to see a fresh chalk board menu. Anyway, when the waitress found out this was our first visit she offered each a sample of their "famous oyster nachos"...I have to say it didn't sound very appetizing. Much to my delight they not only brought us a sample of oyster nachos, but also red beans & rice and a sample of every soup on the menu! It was all yummy but the oyster nacho was great as was the clam chowder and jalapeño soup. We ordered a shrimp taco special and were not disappointed. We even brought home a large container of both clam chowder and jalapeño soup for later. All this with great service and a very reasonable price. There are several more things on the menu that I want to try so we will be back for sure.

Beer was good! Side salad was tasty! Special tuna tacos with rice were yummy! Some of the yummiest I have had! Server was very cool and it was a great experience. Def good place for lunch or dinner.

Lunch Oct 29 Didnt even know this place was there! Its a small chain that seems to be based in Texas., but I am glad they opened one in FL! Ordered a shrimp po' boy with some extra creole mayo. WOW! it was a great sandwich! Overloaded with tasty shrimp that were NOT just all breading. The creole Mayo was so good, glad i got extra. So here is what really impressed me. Instead of fries I got a house salad for an up charge. This was not your ordinary house side salad! Way above and beyond the call of duty here folks! We also inquired about the Oysters Nachos, surprisingly, the waitress brought out a sample for each of us. I am not a fan of Oysters and theses were outstanding! Its nice to see people take chances and be creative with dishes! hats off! Will definitely come back for lunch next trip through!

Ignore the bad reviews. The food is good and the service is excellent. Ask for Emily's table. She is awesome. Makes you feel very welcomed. I had the crab legs but beware of the spices on the corn on the Cobb if you don't eat spicy food at all. I ordered Tito's front porch lemonade which Emily made and it was excellent!!! I can't wait to come back and try other menu items. Thanks Emily for excellent service

I have been a fan of this restaurant for years. I live on the North side of Lakeland and make the trek because the food is so good. Saying that however, I ate there yesterday and was very disappointed with the order I had. I was excited to have the shrimp and when my order came I was unhappy that for $14.99 I received 5 medium sized shrimp over rice with a very small smattering of crab. Very very overpriced...shame on you Fish city grill

The food selection is plentiful as well as their beverage options. I was too full to experience their desserts, but their options sounded yummy. I had the grilled rainbow trout and it was excellent. I will visit this establishment again. Oh and they do have other locations in the US; so visit their website to check to see if there's a location nearby you.

  • Amanda B.

First time patron. Great atmosphere, very upbeat and fun. A tad noisy but no biggie. Our party ordered the grouper, the trout, and the fish and chips. Everything was cooked perfectly and was very flavorful. We also had the gumbo, and the fried pickles. Both were excellent. For dessert we had the bread pudding, carrot cake, and blackberry cobbler. All were very tasty, but the cobbler was a bit too tart. Our server, Sam, was on top of everything, despite being pretty busy. He was a sweetheart, and even brought us samples of their sauces when we couldn't decide. If you plan to drink here, keep in mind that these guys make VERY STRONG drinks. All in all, we had a great time and left delightfully stuffed.

Chipotle honey shrimp tacos were delish! I ordered without cilantro and was happy to have special order honored. Waitress was nice and funny. Made our visit enjoyable. Waffle fries were awesome!

Friendly easy-going place. Appreciate the sample of the oyster nachos. Went for the Grilled Oyster dinner. Good number of oysters and well grilled. Cole slaw was light and not mayo based which is great. Vegetables were nicely seasoned and not overcooked. Would go back.

The family and I have been there multiple times. Have always gotten great service and great food. Have been to most of the seafood restaurants in lakeland and I would say none compare. Menu is always good with great selections for their specials. It is always a pleasure to eat there.
