If I have to eat a sub, it's gotta be hot. Throw in a fancy schmancy pop machine that let's you add flavors to your soda choice (I did Sprite Zero with Vanilla) and a delicious lemon cookie, and I'm a happy girl. Firehouse's Steak and Cheese 6" was alright (I went with no mayo or mustard, but subbed Italian dressing) - the meat had nice flavor but was a bit fatty (ick), and the green peppers, onions and mushrooms were tasty. I'd try something else next time, maybe one of the smoked turkey options. The menu is on the smaller side. I've been told they can be busy at lunchtime, with no tables available, but the day we were there it was less than a quarter full.

The guy at the counter told me the sub I ordered was gross and he wouldn't eat it. He worked there. Is this insane or what? Real good for business bro, guess you don't want a job in the future. He asked me if I wanted mayo on my chicken salad, I said "does mayo come on the chicken salad?" He said " I don't know, I wont eat that sandwich it tastes like baking soda." I still got the sub and it didn't taste like baking soda but I was grossed out and wont go back, to that location at least.

I went to Firehouse Subs for lunch one afternoon and found it to be nothing special. The staff yells, "welcome to firehouse!!" upon entering...It's nice that they least acknowledge they have customers in the building unlike some sandwich shops. After reviewing the menu, I decided on the Hook and Ladder Combo. This sandwich comes with turkey, ham and monterrey jack cheese. I ordered it "Fully involved" so it came with mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion and a dill spear on the side. The sandwich was good, but I didn't find myself wanting to go back anytime soon. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. The counter where the food is ordered and made is lined with different hot sauces ... so if you're a hot sauce connoisseur, it might be a fun place to visit. I think that if I go back, I will have to try the "award winning chili."

I just moved from New Jersey and wanted to look for a nice hoagie place down here in Lakeland, so I decided to stop in here. Nice place, and the food wasn't too badly priced. I ordered half of a smoked turkey hoagie with all the fixings. It didn't take too long to get, and it was.. alright. Definitely not a Primo hoagie from up north (or a Potbelly one if you want to compare toasted hoagies). More than likely I won't be going back here, and just sticking to Publix for my hoagie fixes!

It's been over a year and I have been back twice. It deserves to move up a star. I had two friendly service experiences from two different sandwich makers. They were prompt, spoke clearly and knew their product. The place is clean, the manager came out to straighten chairs even, during my visit. Four stars is a salad rating, the subs and sometimes dirty tables despite lots of help brings it to a "3" overall. They now boast quite a few items under 500 calories, both sandwiches and salads. I appreciate the calorie counting so I can make wise personal selections. My favorite is their chopped salads because they chop the items finely. They make them with or without meat and have a great house Italian dressing. The salad is large and I end up taking a good portion of it home. Their drink machine has 110 combos of drink flavors, many are no calories. Had their hot hook & ladder sub--essentially a ham sandwich. The ham is thinly shaved and heated with steam so it's moist. The sub is virtually flavorless unless you dig through their hundred hot sauces (which is a little gross to me). I like about everybody else's sub to theirs. (Subway, Subs n Such, JBurns...) They continue to do a lot of personal talk in loud voices behind the counter (high school immaturity, though they apparently aren't in school since it's day time when I'm there). I hate the droll "welcome to Firehouse when you walk thru the door", gets said several times like they are "aping" each other. The price for a salad was about $7.50 and with a drink it topped $10. which to me, is a high priced lunch stop when I can do subs or salads and drink under $7. But it is a nice change of diet and convenient location in a favorite shopping center. I'll be back!

I'm only writing this review because I can't stand getting terrible service from an establishment and there not be any consequences from it. I walked into this place some time last year and wasn't greeted by a single person but I figured maybe It was just because they were busy because they were kind of busy but then some people walked in right after me and were immediately greeted and I thought it was odd that they were greeted and I wasn't so I got ticked off and sent an email to the owner of the place. I got an apology email back and that was the end of it. So I was shopping with my wife today at Merchants Walk and was hungry and decided to give them another shot. I walked in and this time there wasn't a soul in there and I wasn't greeted again. I stood in front of the menu and stared at it for a couple of minutes and not a word was said to me meanwhile the staff was busy yapping back and forth to each other loudly about not horse playing in the store. And then all of a sudden some people walked in and were greeted immediately. Now I'm not the type to gripe about race having anything to do with the way I was treated but both instances I was the only non white face in the place and the whole staff and all the other customers in the place were white. I couldn't give my money to this place for a second time after that and I never will again. The staff in this place is so unprofessional that I would give a negative star if allowed.

These folks don't seem at all concerned about how much competition that they have. A simple request for a sandwich with JUST lettuce, tomato, and meat was made wrong not once, but twice. No apologies...and I overheard from behind the counter "this is firehouse, not Burger King." I won't be back. I recommend you look elsewhere for a sandwich shop.
