Friendly staff. Good sweet tea. I was hooked on the fresh salsa and freshly made chips. Queso was good as well. The burrito we shared was huge- too much for 1 and a little much for 2 (plus overdosing on chips and salsa). This place was pretty busy for lunch time, and was off the beaten path- about a mile from most of the chain restaurants/businesses. Locals enjoy the breakfast but we came a bit late for that.

Great food, Great service... Best Salsa ever!! Never had anything bad here...

Yes please yes, the fajitas were amazing, beef. The hot salsa is actually hot!!!! Now they aren't flexible at all on substitutions which really put me off! Definitely try it out, you will be amazed at the extensive menu. If someone in your party doesn't like Mexican style food, TRUST ME, there menu will have them covered.

Both times I have eaten here the food was fantastic. I am going to go back as often as I can.

Taco Bell is better!. No flavor. Had taco and burrito. First and last trip in. Seeing the name would make you think you are going to a Mexican restaurant but once inside you look at the menu and see they serve a little bit of everything which means....beware!

Canned food from Sysco here. If you like canned frijoles, canned salsa, canned enchilada sauce and frozen bagged ground beef- then this place is for you. Nothing prepared here that I had was made fresh. I have been here twice and both times I had the ground beef enchilada's with the two eggs over easy for breakfast. Both time were awful. To top it off, the service was lackluster too. Not just the first time, but both times. There truly is no reason to eat here. If you don't heed my advice and do attempt to have a Mexican style meal here- DO NOT look in the kitchen. I warned you!

I have no problem giving Doña Julias a solid 4 star rating. I've been going to this place for years, and it's an awesome local spot for great mexican food. I don't know what happened with Chris N., but I've never had a bad experience there. Their menu is huge, and the creations are endless. The price they ask for the portions you get is beyond fair. Honestly though, I find myself going more for breakfast there than I do lunch or dinner. They have some incredible breakfast choices and they're just dirt cheap. You can get out of this place for $8 with tip if you want to go on the cheap. Chorizo & scrambled eggs with onions and bell peppers is the big winner for me. Of course, if you've read my other reviews, I judge a Mexican restaurant on their chips & salsa. If they stink, it's a pretty good indicator that the food to follow will too. I agree with Erin S. that their salsa is just one notch above everyone else's. Abuelo's and Tapatio's both make great salsa, but Doña Julia's is just out of this world. The restaurant is clean, but a 1/2 star demerit point for having men's and women's restrooms that open right into the dining room area. If you're seated in the booth right by the bathrooms, you might be treated to more cracking noises than just the chips you're munching on. Not cool. Also 1/2 star demerit point for always seeming to walk into a table that hasn't been wiped off. I can see where super picky people would be put off by that, but I just know it's part of the experience. The family-run business is staffed by great people who really know how to cook. Servers are friendly and usually extremely fast after you've placed your order. Patronize our local restaurants people. Help them out, show them some local love. I'm so glad Doña Julia's is part of our city. A true gem.

Dona Julia's offers a great menu selection and good food for an affordable price. They have a great selection of Mexican dishes as well as breakfast and options for kids who would rather have a burger. A family of three can eat for around $30.00 depending on selection. After eating in several times, the overall taste of food may vary based on the day's chef, but is good regardless.

A popular breakfast place, open for all 3 meals. They work the crowds quickly. Friendly wait staff. Authentic Latino Huevos Rancheros with corn or flour tortillas, rice & beans cooked to perfection. Chorizo option. Delicious cilantro flavored salsa. Has American standards, good prices. Great for practicing your Spanish. Great ethnic change of scenery! 3/2015. Continues to be a great place to eat. Friendly people, fast, consistently good service. Great specials like carne guisada or Swiss steak. Many regulars. Love that everybody at the table gets their own salsa dish. Nice touch!

As Justin S. mentioned this place is a real gem here in Lakeland. The diner food is 3 stars but where they excel is consistency, cleanliness, and service. For that and some scrumptious tex-mex they deserve 5 stars. The service is great, the food does the trick, but here is my favorite thing about them... I have an affinity for good tex-mex. My family does not however. What makes this place work is you can order tamales, your significant other can order a Reuben, and if you bring kids they can order French toast. Everybody wins! I've taken customers here for business, and if they don't like what I like, no biggie, they can get a nice deli sandwich. It just works. The food is tasty, and the prices are right. Incredible value here folks! Check it out.

Dona Julia's has become our go to favorite mexican restaurant in Lakeland. We still visit Abuelo's and Tapatio's on occasion, as each has their specialties that are delicious. But Dona Julia's not only serves wonderful food they have a wonderful wait staff, reasonable prices, and a comfortable setting without feeling pretentious. In fact, if you want fancy, this isn't it. This is just wonderful cooking done right. Whether you want breakfast, lunch or dinner, this is a great place to go.

Very good service, and the food was hot and plentiful. However, for the money Abuelos is still superior.

My absolute favorite tex-mex spot in the city I grew up in. I've come here for years and I really don't have any complaints. Although I love their breakfast, I always come for lunch. The chips and salsa....homemade and hands down, the best I've had. I usually order their chicken flautas...cripsy on the outside, cheesy chicken on the inside. It comes with their queso(amazing) and sour cream for dipping, I always leave there overly stuffed and happy. The prices will leave a smile on your face as well...my meals are never more than 10$. The service is good and I like the family atmosphere of it all. Whenever I'm in lakeland to visit family I always get a craving for this place...id recommend to anyone.

Love this place especially the chips and salsa! They have great food for breakfast but I love their lunch and dinner meals the best. I've been going here for quite a long time....I've had a few bad meals but what place is perfect? Overall its a great place to eat.

Stopped here while traveling from Orlando to Tampa. We were basically on the highway and looking for a Mexican spot that was close by. The reviews looked good so we checked it out. We were not having the breakfast, which is what most people seem to like about the place. The food was inexpensive. I'll give it that. We had also just left Disney so it seemed really cheap to us! But reading through the rest of the reviews I can't help but think that the reviewers just have not had that much Mexican food. The margaritas were made from some mix that tasted a lot like gatorade with tequila in it. They were less than $4 a piece, but still... The staff was nice and I had a decent enough time, but if I'm ever in Lakeland again I will try another Mexican restaurant first.
