Traveling on business and staying at Gaylord Palms Resort. I am a sushi lover and appreciate good sushi and a good sushi chef. I am pleasantly surprised with this excellent food at Sora!

Nice ambiance, that's it. Over priced sushi and they have less then 10 sushi roll selections. The portions are ridiculously small. I paid $16 for a roll that came with 5 pieces. If you want Sushi, look elsewhere and don't come here, you'll have a hole in your stomach and wallet.

My rating system (5 is the best) Food=3.5 // Service=5 // Attitude=5 // Crowd=Hotel Guests // Consistency=Yes // Bathrooms=Clean // Overrated=No A nice little gem in the Gaylord Palms. Miso soup is very tasty and a nice presentation, salad is huge and fresh. Signature cucumber roll is worth a try, dumplings and meaty and the Saki is cheap. Great environment and overall and very nice evening... go for it...

Good appetizer, below average sushi. Even Moon Fish (American Seafood/Steak restaurant) make a much better sushi. Our waiter Hoi was short as if he didn't want to be bothered...I asked for lemon for my water. $86 for 2 sushi rolls and 2 appetizers and a diet coke. Don't waste your money here. P.S. Kamakazi roll is the worst I've had. 5 slices. BTW, very limited menu.

We shared some Sushi rolls here one evening. Very tasty! I would have loved to have tried everything on the Sushi menu. I'm surprised at some of the poor ratings for SORA - but I was not there - and restaurants can have off nights and food ratings can be so subjective... Is it expensive? Yes. But it was very good!

If you have a car - get off the resort and grab some food elsewhere. if you are resort locked this is a pricey option. Think $10 edamame. For reals. $11 glasses of wine. Pork dumplings were not a bad choice for dinner. Service was awful, all in all a meal I hope I can forget.

Beautiful place. The sushi chef and bartender were extremely knowledgeable and friendly, helping us choose what to order based on our preferences. This was my first "real" sushi experience where I didn't just eat a California roll. It was so good, it got me hooked on nigiri and sashimi for life. If you're staying at the Gaylord Palms, or even just nearby, I recommend stopping in for a late night bite! Can't comment on the prices, since my companion insisted on paying.

When you are trapped in the Gaylord Hotel and someone else is paying, this place is worth a visit, but if I was footing the bill, I would have to dine elsewhere. The atmosphere is lovely, and we enjoyed the drinks (you must try the coconut lemongrass sake), appetizers (edamame and tuna nachos - really good), but the rolls were WAY overpriced and resembled grocery store sushi in both taste and appearance. You'll get more value and taste for your money at Wreckers.

Good bar, excellent service (ask for Hoi), good food. Had the omikase for two and it was very good, not the best I've ever had, but a solid hotel sushi joint. Must get the spicy tuna nachos, they were the highlight of the meal.

Like everything else in the bio-dome that is the Gaylord Palms, this sushi place is ridiculously overpriced. But given that the only thing within walking distance of the Gaylord is cow pasture, the convenience factor is what you are paying for here. The sushi itself is not that great - certainly not good enough to justify the price. It is a good option relative to the other eating establishments within the Gaylord that feature an over-priced buffet, steak joint, and FL seafood. If you have a car or are willing to spring for a cab, there are many eating options close by in Celebration or SR-192. Given that Orlando caters primarily to travelling families, you will not find much fine dining in the area if that is your goal. The Olive Garden is about as high-brow as you get in the Kissimmee/WDW area where the Gaylord is adjacent. On a corporate expense account, Sora provides a reasonable experience. But on my own dime, I'd rather change out of my suit, throw on a tank top, and better blend into more reasonably priced tourist chains nearby.

Sora! Sora! Sora! This small lobby bar/sushi restaurant at the Gaylord Palms Resort launched a surprise attack on my liver. Not all lobby bars are bad ... Just most. What sets Sora apart is its mix of modern vibe, Japanese-style food, friendly service, and a full bar accented by lights that smoothly transition colors every few seconds. Sora isn't a destination restaurant or bar, but it works if you are at Gaylord Palms wanting sushi before 10:00 p.m. or needing a drink before 11:00 p.m. I was the latter. An outgoing server quickly greeted me and within a few minutes a bowl of salted Edamame ($10) was brought with a Bombay Sapphire & Tonic ($13). After a few rounds, it was closing time (for the bar and my eyes). Thanks to the smooth service, comfy lounge chairs, and cool atmosphere, Sora is an above average hotel lobby bar.

Meh. They have TV's in the bar, but no cable. They have overpriced sushi and it's pretty awful. I would suggest taking a cab off the resort and headed over to Sand Lake Road to restaurant row. The money you save by NOT ordering food or drink at this bar/restaurant will be best used on transporting to and from the restaurant area of Dr. Phillips.

All I can say is I was very disappointed with the quality of the offerings. It's a cool place to be, but the food was not so good. The Tuna Tataki, which I love, was not the normal dark tuna, it was pink and not all that favorable. I also had a shrimp tempura roll of some sort and the rice was hard and nasty. This is not what I would expect from a very pricey resort

OK if you are staying at the Gaylord Palms and want something different. Modern feel. Both bar, lounge area, and tables. The menu isn't extensive. The soba salad was tasty. It's slightly larger than a dinner salad but not large enough for an entrée. The spicy tuna roll reminded me of happy hour sushi without the happy hour price. Small pieces, They give you a cup of soy sauce, you don't pour it on your own. I got a little turned off by the service when my server made a face when I only ordered an iced tea and not a "'real" drink. The iced tea (brewed) was $3.50 and the "real" drinks were $15 and being on a per diem for work was just too much. Soba salad, spicy tuna roll, iced tea, plus tax and gratuity came to $33. A little pricey for me and I was still hungry after. There are two TVs at the bar in case you wanted to watch a game and didn't want to go to the sports bar.

Only gets one star because I can't give it a zero. Sushi was fine if you were paying $5 for a roll. It was crappy sushi with crappy prices. Maybe I'm used to better sushi but just wasn't good. I also ordered a drink and was shocked when I got my bill. Double the price from any other place I've ordered the same drink. In fact all the food at gaylord is way over priced for the quality. I wouldn't mind paying the price if the food was actually good.

We had just finished walking through the ICE! exhibit and needed something small to nosh on. We came across a special that included free Ahi Tuna Nachos with the purchase of two specialty cocktails. Based on the menu, it seems like they are trying to be more of a bar than a restaurant. The drinks had as many menu pages as the food. Many of their drinks used unusual, but tasty sounding ingredients. My husband got the Distinct and I got the Fresh. Both were served on the rocks and cost $10 each. We both enjoyed them a lot. As for the food, we really liked the tuna nachos. I believe we received the "Nosh" portion, which came with "chips". They were very good, with just the right amount of spice, but if I had paid full price for them ($13!) I probably wouldn't have been happy with the portion size. We also ordered the Lava roll, which came with a mix of crab and lobster on top. The shellfish mix was the best part, since the roll itself was just so-so. The food was decent, but there are way better sushi options in Orlando.

Good drinks, good food, easy on a travel schedule. I don't expect as much as some "foodie sushi snobs" from a hotel restaurant and bar. This sushi is solid and in line with a typical resort/business function convention center restaurant. Lava roll was $26. Yeah, I've paid less for all you can eat sushi in Reno; but, these are solid rolls and strong service. Probably wouldnt pay $11 for a Kirin here when the martinis are $14. Liquor is quicker. Saketini is strong contender here.

I feel I have to echoing what many others here stated... the food here is overpriced. 3 pot stickers for 13 dollars?! The waitress said to me that they were larger than normal dumplings... but they were not. The selection of food was very small. They had about 6 different and pretty standard rolls and a few standard appetizers. On the plus side, the food was really good. I enjoyed the lava roll (crab meat on top of a crab roll) and the Curry Crab Bisque was a real stand out and is something I would recommend to any bisque fan. Also, they have what seems like an interesting selection of sakes. We ordered a flight of them to try out which was fun. Overall I would have given it 4 stars, but I had to take one star off just for price value.

Waitress was friendly, when she was available. Sushi roll was the smallest I have seen. Flavor was ok, nothing that I would recommend though. Sora filled a need but that's about it.

Sora is probably the best restaurant if you get stuck @ the Gaylord. The indoor/outside, though in an atrium, dining is nice and the service is good. The sushi is marginal and if you are from the west coast, skip this place. There's duck on the menu which is interesting for a sushi spot. (No, I didn't try it.) All-in-all not bad dining experience, but expensive.

Had 6 dumplings for $21 last nigtht... the food was okay, not outstanding for the $$. Not sure if i'll be back tonight though or try another restaurant @ Gaylord Palms.

Sora was by far the best restaurant in the Palms but that isn't saying much. Our server was terrible and we actually had to flag down another server to ask him to go get her so we could get our checks. Our waters had been empty for ten minutes by that point, and our plates had been empty for five more than that. It was really inexcusable. Also, I witnessed a glass get broken on the other end of the restaurant around the time we entered and it hadn't been cleaned up by the time we left. The sushi was decent, which is the only reason this place can get three stars. A little pricey for what it was, but the crunch roll had a nice flavor and just the right amount of kick.

While the decor is pleasant, stay away from this overpriced theme park of a restaurant. Sushi was poor quality with awkward portions, flavorless gummy rice and some items less than fresh. Condescending service with missed ordered items.

I was looking for a place to hold a social media meetup for optometrists during our annual meeting. At the recommendation of Gaylord Palms, I chose Sora, primarily based on location and WiFi. The management at Sora was extremely easy to work with. From their perspective, this is a difficult thing to arrange because I required a place to set up the laptop for skyping, etc. Additionally, I didn't know how many people where going to show up, as most of the RSVPs had been spread via word of mouth. Regardless, they setup tables and assisted me in hosting the event. The atmosphere was extremely enjoyable. The décor is very elegant and the open-air design allows the relaxing sound from the indoor waterfalls to be heard, without being annoying. This was especially nice when I stopped by for lunch and some laptop work earlier in the day to make sure that all was well. The service was excellent. Just the right balance of attentiveness without being obnoxious. I like sushi, but my wife doesn't, so I don't get to eat it as often as I'd like. I played it simple with a California Roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll. Both were fresh and flavorful.

Sora is the best restaurant within the confines of the Gaylord Palms. The service is quick and pleasant, but the sushi is only just average. The tuna nigiri I had was a bit bland and "grainy" in texture, but not terrible. They do offer a unique and tasty selection of drinks reflecting different feelings, sensations or elements, such as "pure". The four in my group all tried different drinks and compared notes.

The ambiance and atmosphere here are top notch. Very peaceful, beautiful, and relaxing. The staff there were also very polite and helpful, providing an excellent experience. The food also tasted pretty good. Not the best sushi I've tasted, but you won't be disappointed. I would highly recommend trying many of the appetizers, especially the spicy tuna nachos, as well as their dumplings. But if everything is so good why the poor rating? Unfortunately, while everything was what you would expect from restaurant of this caliber, none of it exceeded my expectations enough to justify the price. What disappointed me the most was the serving size. With the amount of money spent, I expected to be happy, and content at the very least. Each roll cost anywhere from $12-$16 and somehow that equated to a small roll of maybe 6-8 pieces. When I was done with my roll, I was still just as hungry as I came in. (Keep in mind that I also had a few of the appetizers as well). Now you must be thinking I'm a guy with a large appetite; but in actuality, I have the smallest appetite out of all my friends. The rest of the party I was with, even the tiny girls, were still starving after our "meal." For a full meal, I would probably suggest getting at least 1.5 rolls per person. Maybe even two, just to be satisfied, not quite reaching the "full" feeling yet. Overall, I did have a good experience, however due to pricing and serving size, I would not feel right with myself recommending it to people without first warning them. Will I be back? Unfortunately no, not a chance, its just not worth it.

My first experience at SORA was several years ago, and I have been a fan ever since. Two years ago it was a great place for Hoyas to gather after the Old Spice Tournament. Specialty drinks, service, and atmorphere are wonderful. Surprisingly, the food is also excellent. Sushi, and dumplings are some of the best you will find in Orlando. It is a nice change from the other convention restaurants in Orlando. The spicey sauce for the dumplings, and spicey tuna rolls are a must.

We just ate there last night and I was not impressed. Sure it looks good and the marketing is slick, but that is the only positive thing I can say about Sora. We were told that it would be about a 20 min wait, in reality it was closer to 90. Once the server took our order it was close to an hour before we received our drinks and food. The sushi was unimpresive in image and flavor. For what the charged I expected a little more. Do yourself a favor, rent a car, call a cab and go to one of the many small sushi shops around town, hell just go to Whole Foods, you will get better food and service.

Thursday night about 7pm, June 21, 2012. We were anxious to try Sora after having seen it advertised in all the reviews. After being told to "wait here" for almost ten minutes, we were finally shown to a table. A very disinterested server showed up, and finished setting the table, while seating the three of us. My husband and I ordered off the very strange drink menu. If I'm paying $14 for a martini, please make it a good one. We ordered an appitizer of delicious tuna, poke stye, on crisp wonton with wasabi. Very Yummy. We would have enjoyed it more had it arrived sooner than the end of our meal. Potstickers were not as good as Costcos. Three sushi rolls and the above all came to over $137, and we left hungry. We know we were a captive audience staying at the hotel. And we don't have a problem with the high prices a hotel can get away with, but we stay at enough conferences in the area, to know when mediocore tries to pass as gourmet. Actually the room service pizza and hamburgers at the hotel were delicious, so they know how to make good food. However, the sushi restaurant was not the place. Better off with room service...that food was very good!

The atmosphere is nice, but the menu is extremely limited for a sushi bar. If you have a choice between staying and eating at the gaylord or going out, I would go out. Our waitress was horrible as well. She forgot part of my friend's order and took forever to bring the bill.

  • Monica R.

The food was delicious but not worth the price... well, I take that back. The sushi nacho appetizer was incredibly delicious and well worth the price. The bartenders were extremely sweet (they gave me a free bday shot), but our table server seemed to be having a bad day. Would I eat here again? Yeah, I guess I would if I wanted sushi and I didn't want to leave the Gaylord Palms compound. Definitely wouldn't make a special trip for it though.

The best choice for good food at the Palms. The sushi was solidly good (not fantastic), the nachos were tasty and the drinks were creative and not all sugar and syrup. The service here was average, compared to the rest of the hotel staff, but still OK. Super duper over-priced and the sushi takes a very long to prepare (we were warned up-front, which helped).
