When I venture to a new restaurant my expectations are nothing short of an experience that will indulge my senses. This place did just that. Unexpected, yes. A friend of mine who shares the same love and compassion for food as me recommended this restaurant. At first I thought ehh ok I'll try it for the sake of having a good conversation piece with this person next time I see them. But wow was I impressed. The food speaks for itself. To start, had the bacalao croquettes, chorizo and the Provoleta al Prosciutto. All of which were delish. My husband had the Osso Buco. He was impressed and enjoyed it very much. To say that he's had my grandfathers traditional home made Osso Buco and felt it was comparable. I had the lobster a la catula and loved it. All in all the food was definitely satisfying. The food and experience for sure gave me pleasure. Enjoyed it and will be back.

This place is an amazing blend of old and new Latin dishes. Make sure to get the masitas de puerco risotto!!

This place is very good. Great food and the atmosphere is really cool with unique artwork all over. The full bar is great and the service is always spot on.

We walked into this place on a Saturday and it was packed. Upon arrival we were asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't however they must have had a cancellation because they were able to accommodate our party of four rather quickly. I'll admit the service was a little slow however I'll let that slide since the food was so good. Everything from the appetizer to the entree and even the dessert were A++ in my book. Definitely will be back soon.

Went to Café Catula to celebrate my husband's and a friend's birthday. Party of 12. The place is nice but small and tables are on top of one another. They had an older gentlemen playing the piano which could not be heard because the place is so loud. Service was not great. Waiter would disappear for long periods of time. They automatically will put 18% tip on your check, which for the poor service we expected better. The place also charges $5.00 for parking. I feel this is unnecessary since there is a lot for the building. The restaurant is pricey so we expected a better atmosphere. We were unable to talk or hear one another. It was even difficult speaking to my husband who was sitting next to me. We took our children who are in their 20s and they also found the place too loud. Now, when young adults find the place loud believe me it is loud and disappointing for an upscale restaurant. Food: You get a warm basket of bread with butter and a sun dried tomato sauce. Nice! My cousin and I ordered the salmon $24.00 which comes with mashed potatoes and some vegetables. Overly salty and had to be sent back. We decided to get the Mezzaluna Di Granchio, half moon pasta filled with crab meat in a creamy lobster sauce Very good but for the price of $22.00 they only give you 5 raviolis per plate. If it would not have been for the bread we would have left hungry. Everything is a la carte. The flan was good. No one in our party was impressed with the food or the presentation. For what they charge there are better places around. We will not be back! Sorry Café Catula but there are some things you need to work on: 1) ambiance 2) service 3) price and portions. If you want to be an upscale restaurant you have to do better.

Amazing gourmet dining at pretty reasonable prices. Love the provoleta appetizer, the risotto is delicious and the crepes are the perfect ending to a great meal.

Excellent restaurant with a nice atmosphere!! Both the food & the service were excellent! We had the scallop appetizer and the octopus tapas. OMG! I didn't want the octopus but I think it was my favorite dish of the night - grilled to perfection! Soft and flavorful! Loved it! The 10 oz skirt steak is pretty large & comes with a salad & French fries. My husband had the Branzino (sp?) fish special with bay scallops. Delicious!! We could have shared the two appetizers & the fish & left satisfied. Did I mention the live entertainment? They have a wonderful pianist. For dessert, we shared a guava flan. It was good but not out of this world. Overall we had a great experience! I am really surprised about the poor service reviews. Our service was excellent. Will definitely be back!

Love the happy hour deals even though we went on a Wednesday and didn't get the Wednesday happy hour deals. Good prices and selection. Ambience and service were good, too. There's free parking in the garage which is great, too.

I wanted this place to be awesome, but it's just okay. The good: * Great live music (live piano + upright bass playing old school jazz standards). *Nicely decorated (nice for a date or celebration) *Complimentary warm bread with sundried tomato tapenade The not so good: -Server took 15-20 minutes to come to table after we were seated -Server would disappear for long periods of time -The dishes were decorated, but all the food had the same grayish brown color (crab cake, ravioli Miami & mezzaluna) -The PRICES! We ordered "Crab CakeS" I don't know why "Cakes" is plural because there was only 1 cake! & it was $13..come on! Overpriced pasta. Overall, the prices are not congruent with the service, quality & quantity of the food. I knew they had a Miami Spice Menu & had thought about ordering off of it, but they never even offered it. They need to step up their game or lower their prices. Verdict: Maybe I'll give them another chance in a few months to see if they got it together.

I am SOOO glad I found this place. Fine Art Gallery. Live Music. Full Bar. Great Service. And then.... the FOOD! Wow, the food!!! The dipping sauce and bread that first came out was good enough to get filled up with. My wife and I enjoyed sipping on Macallan 18 while having a nice conversation with the bar tender. He suggested the Mezzaluna Di Granchio (Half moon pasta filled with crab meat in a creamy lobster sauce topped with shrimp). If that is on the menu when you visit, do NOT miss the opportunity to have possibly the BEST ravioli in the world! Yes, it's THAT good! Their soup du jour is usually a cream of a root vegetable or similar. We had the delectable carrot and I look forward to the malanga, or maybe pumpkin. The Argentinian sausage was delicious. We also had the octopus, Pulpo a la Catula, which was grilled in EVOO, garlic, and paprika and I must say, it's the BEST you can get in Miami, if not South Florida! Perfection! Then there was dessert. Both the dark & white chocolate soufflé and the red wine poached pears were exquisite. All I have left to write is, I cannot WAIT to go back! (Oh, and technically, this is NOT in Kendall. ;)

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Kendall. The menu is diverse and original. For appetizers we had: seared scallops, cooked to perfection and so flavorful; grilled octopus, fantastically tender; all the other appetizers were just as good. We had a variety of entrees, veal, fish, pastas and they were all absolutely delicious, but perhaps everybody's favorite dish was the Risotto di Masitas where they managed to get the flavors of a cuban dish and give it such an unbelievable dimension. As for dessert, we ordered flan de coco, the dulce de leche crepe, both excellent, but the king of them all was the chocolate fondue, it was out of this world!! The service is also worth mentioning, friendly and warm but not intrusive. I can't wait to go back!

Great little spot for Happy Hour. From the moment we walked in we were greeted wonderfully and accommodated right away. Our bartender, Victor was great, even though we had a little bit of communication problem he made sure we were happy with our drink choices and recommend great items from the menu. I ordered a martini although I do not prefer an original Martini he asked what I usually drink. I informed him I prefer a cucumber martini. He apologized they did not have this. 20 minutes later he came back with a coworker and said they went and purchased the ingredients to make my drink. What!!! No way! You don't find service like this in Miami very often. I recommend this little gem to anyone looking to just relax in a great environment.

The ambiance was amazing, the piano player/ singer was great and the wine and apps were perfect. We had dinner for the third time, and it was delicious. I ordered the Fillet Catula....Fillet Mignon stuffed with goat cheese and roasted peppers, accompanied by sweet potato mash and veggies....so delicious I almost licked the plate clean. My hubby ordered the Snapper with artichokes and sun dried tomato and he loved it as well. We will definitely keep on coming back....YUMMY

Celebrated New Year's Eve at this place.. One of our favs!! The food again was beyond amazing!! Both me and my boyfriend had the filet mignon which was just delish and cooked to perfection!! They had a live dj for the evening who also sang and interacted with the crowd.. The music was awesome and the ambience was great! Glad we were able to ring in the new year here! Can't wait to go back!

We came to Cafe Catula for my mom's bday, looking forward to lunch as they were one of the restaurants listed on miami spice 2013. We ordered the corvina ceviche and ahi tuna tartare to start with but were dissapointed. Had to return the corvina. Tuna was ok. We followed with an order of chistorra and provoletta prosciutto to share between my boyfriend and I and that was just simply ok. The provoletta just tasted like simple melted cheese. My mom had the halibut, special of the day, it was good. A little too salty but the fish was fresh. My dad had the grouper. It was the best dish , very fresh too. Finally we ordered the peach creme brule, it was great and nice way to end a not so great meal. Ps. Nice touch, piano player live and he played happy bday and las mañanitas for my mom. Bad thing is we came for miami a spice and waiter never showed us the miami spice menu.

I will defeinitely come back to have more appetizers.

Cafe Catula is a hidden gem. If it weren't for my sister and a delayed light on 87th avenue, I would have never realize this place existed. To top it off, last nights dinner included a concert from Los 3 de la Habana (additional cost). The place is elegant, with lots of art pieces. Everything on the menu sounded exquisite although we only had appetizers/tapas. The shrimp cocktail was good but nothing to rave about. The tostones catula are amazing...a tostone has risotto, like none other, with grilled tuna. Amazing. As a third appetizer, we had the Argentinian empanadas which were very good. The wine was also great at $8 a glass. Downside was that although we had reservations, they sat us next to the server station where utensil, water, and menus were placed. Very busy section...would have preferred sitting somewhere else. Regardless, we had a great time and certainly can't wait to come back. Keep the music coming.

Food is always delicious but I've been going since they opened and they still need to work on their service. I'm glad they have a happy hour and the art is excellent. There's outdoor seating and overall it has a great ambience. I just wish the waiters were more attentive.

I had no expectations when I walked in and I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was full, the service was good, our food was delicious, and the after dinner drinks were flowing - what more do you need?

Finally! No need to go to Coral Gables, South Miami or South Beach. Cafe Catula is the place to go right here in East Kendall. Simple elegance without false pretenses; gourmet dishes without fancy names and first class service from beginning to end. I understand this place opened recently and we are always eager to try new places at least once; but, this will be one that we will be returning to frequently (there are many other dishes that I definitely want to try). Located on the first floor of the building that was built on the site of Casa Alberto Restaurant (for those who are familiar with the history of the area). You can access the restaurant through the covered parking lot and you immediately find yourself walking into a small art gallery (after all the name of the restaurant is "cafe and art gallery"). The dining area is not huge which give you a sense of intimacy together with the soft lighting, the soft music and the modern and sophisticated decor. The bar area is very inviting as well; and we were told that there will be live music in the future (there is a piano in a corner between the bar, gallery and dining areas). And for the food... Lets say that we devoured everything in our plates: Caprese Salad - perfect, thick slices of delicious tomatoes with a creamy fresh mozzarella cheese and a pesto sauce that was delicate and so well balanced in flavor and texture. Ahi Tuna Tartare - amazingly good and prepare to delight those that love raw fish and hook those that do not fancy this kind of delicacies. Mezzaluna Pasta - stuffed pasta with a delicate blend of lobster and a fabulous white sauce. Breast of Duck - I love duck! This one was tender, flavorful and amazingly good. If you like duck prepare yourself to inhale this one! Choices in desserts are equally good: Nutella crepes, Guava flan ( with cream cheese), delicious! The service was first class! It is a delight to find a restaurant with seasoned and knowledgeable staff! All around an excellent and satisfying experience! It is absolutely worth a five-star rating!

Phenomenal service! I highly recommend the "Ravioli De Miami" I enjoy going to a good happy hour from time to time. If you feel the same, this quaint upscale restaurant not far from home offers premium liquor for the best prices I've come by in a while! 2 thumbs up from me!

This place is great, the day we went the place was packed ,the service was a bit slow for me but it was worth the wait. The staff is friendly and nice, the food was great ,and the dessert the coconut flan was the best ever ,I will return for sure.

I had started with the soup of the day which was a red pepper bisque and as the main churrasco with chorizo and cheese on top with a side of risotto. The risotto was cooked just right; not hard at all. My mom started off with the house salad and as the main corvina in a lemon sauce with potatoes and veggies. Can I just say that this food was exceptional and very filling. AND wait ...there was live music!!!Amazing! I honestly can't wait to go back and try out the happy hour! This italian/spanish restaurant is a hidden gem.

I was very disappointed last night at Cafe Catula when I ordered the risotto from the Miami Spice menu....it was plain white rice mixed with black beans with pork chunks on top. I recommend this dish is either removed from the menu or described ss what it is....I must say that the coconut flan was excellent.

We went here with friends to celebrate my wife's birthday. The ambience is nice and lively with a piano player in the corner. However, it is noisy; possibly because most of the diners are older and need to speak louder so that they can hear each other. Seriously, the crowd looked like a who's who of the society page of Diario Las Americas. The food is overpriced and does not comport to the descriptions on the menu. I ordered the ravioli a la Miami which were supposed to be stuffed with pork and sweet plantains. I haven't had ravioli this bland and stiff since I made some in the microwave at home. I couldn't tell where the pork and plantains were inside the raviolis because all that was inside was a stiff, tasteless paste. There was, however, the ubiquitous one decorative plantain chip on every plate to make it known to all that this place serve nouveau Cuban-Italian cuisine. Seriously, Cafe Vialetto [sp?] is nice, but there's no need to keep copying the same formula, especially when you can't even do it right. My wife ordered the Fillet Catula which is supposed to be "prime angus" (I guess they just wanted to throw all of the meat buzzwords in there to justify the high price figuring that their clientele is completely ignorant to the fact that "prime angus" is not an actual grade of beef) stuffed with goat cheese and peppers accompanied by sweet potato mash. The beef looked more like a skirt steak wrapped into a ball than an actual cut of fillet mignon. And the sweet potato mash was nothing more than half of a baked sweet potato. Oh, and don't forget the huge neon sign of nouveau Cuban-Italian cuisine: the fried plantain chip. I was not impressed by the cheap culinary cliches that they kept throwing at us. To make matters worse, they completely forgot about my wife's birthday. When we arrived my friend discretely told the hostess that we were there to celebrate my wife's birthday after noticing that the piano player played Happy Birthday for another couple celebrating the same occasion; it was a nice touch. Thereafter I went to the same hostess and slipped her a $20 to reiterate the request that they help to make this evening special for my wife. I later went to tell our waiter because I wasn't sure if he was aware of the occasion and he immediately said that the knew about it and that they were ready. Sure enough, when the desserts were brought out no one said a peep, not even a candle was lit. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!! What took the cake (pardon the pun) was that when I brought it to the waiter's attention he just said, matter of factly: "Oh, sorry, I forgot." That was it. He made no effort to try to correct the oversight or even to offer an alternative. That's it, "Oh, sort, I forgot." And here's the bill. When a restaurant is incapable of getting something as simple as a happy birthday right, it makes you wonder what they are capable of doing. This place simply sucks. If you want to have a nice meal, save your money and go to Caffe Di Notte which is about a mile down the road on Sunset or go to the original: Cafe Vialetto, don't settle for a second class imitation.

This restaurant is fantastic. Aesthetically, it is beautiful. It has a wonderful ambiance. Art, music, vibe, this place has it. Walking in I had no idea what to expect. Let me tell you, I was blown away at how nice this restaurant is. This neighborhood needed a place like this. Did I mention that the food was delicious? I had the Cod, which was one of the specials that night, and it was delicious. We also had a wonderful bottle of Malbec which was nicely priced in the low $30 range but tasted to me like a bottle more in the $75 dollar range. The service did not disappoint either. Or waiter new his stuff and was on the ball. He was always 2 steps ahead. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Cafe Catula. This place is super fine dining, with a great ambiance, great service at affordable prices. I highly recommend that you go. Enjoy!!

We went there for Spanish (read: food from Spain) and to start off I asked for Sangrias which were real good; however, that's were all Spanish food ends. For starters had a variety of appetizers from empanadas to scallops.... when I shot for the main course I chose the closest thing to Paella which was a risotto seafood medley, yes it was good but far from Paella. Dessert, we shared a guava flan.. that was real good thought. So, I give it 3 solid stars on good cuisine and atmosphere but take 2 off as for the not so truly essence of spanish food.

Fish was good. Pasta was mushy and greasy. No sauce, just oil. Waiter got order wrong and blamed in on the person who ordered. Waiter spilled food on a person and blamed in on the person whose shirt was stained. Not very polite or accomodating. The place is pretty but the attitude is not. The restaurant won't last with service and attitude like that.

What a great and unexpected find! Hidden at the border of South Miami and Kendall, this place is spectacular! It almost feels like a speakeasy sitting at the bottom of a parking garage with a backside entrance, but as you walk toward the entryway tiki lights guide you down an elegantly decorated path. I went on a Saturday night, and the small restaurant/art gallery-- which only houses a maximum capacity of 80 people-- was almost full one hour before close. In the corner of the room, a live piano player plays old favorites and soft jazz. The ambiance is comfortable and cozy, but yet inexplicably feels airy in spite of the space's limitations. Art surrounds you from the moment you enter, with beautiful bronze sculptures greeting you down the entrance hall and whimsical art work entertaining your eye all around you as you dine. The food is simply spectacular. I'd almost expect food of this caliber to be found on South Beach or Brickell. I had the Mezzaluna Di Granchio, which is half moon pasta filled with crab meat in a creamy lobster sauce. The Italian-Spanish fusion was most clearly apparent when my dish arrived with a sweet fried plantain as accompaniment. The meal was simply divine. The flavors were elegantly balanced and to my surprise the flavors meshed perfectly with the plantain and all. I also was lucky enough to try my company's prime Angus skirt steak. It was seasoned to perfection, and, better yet, it was actually cooked medium just as ordered. My only complaint? The service. They weren't rude, per se, and they were attentive, but they seemed out of sorts some way. First, they greeted us in Spanish off-the-bat. Well, that was a little rude. It was especially awkward because I had to interrupt our server mid-sentence to alert him to the fact that not everyone at the table spoke Spanish. Without an apology, we quickly switched to English. Thereafter, he seemed a bit hurried, which bothered me. Not as if he were rushing us, but as if he couldn't wait to get the next sentence out. He spoke very quickly and began to answer our questions without us having even finished the sentence-- basically talking over us. Though, I understand that may be more of an issue with this individual than with the overall service. Overall, the food came out in a timely manner, and the service wasn't lacking as far as getting what we needed when we needed it. For dessert we had the pears in red wine sauce. An exquisite little dish served with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. The pears wear cooked to perfection and had the perfect texture. All in all, I will be returning to Cafe Catula. Though the service was a little wonky, the food was just to die for.

Amazing place. The space is really beautiful and upscale without being pretentious. The food was wonderful and although the attention fell a little short, the overall experience was fantastic. Claudia was able to accommodate a reservation for us even on a very busy Saturday evening. She is the best! You must try the Pulpo a la Catula, it is sooo good. Tip: if you order the Fritto Misto, dip it on the leftover Pulpo a la Catula sauce ;-). We had the Risotto al Frutti di Mare and the Ravioli di Miami. Absolutely delicious. Do not leave the place without first having the Guava Flan. You will thank me. This was our first time of many to come.

The atmosphere - excellent, small and intimate. The art gallery is beautiful, and the decorations are very classy. Service - excellent. Since it is a small location, the staff is readily available and very friendly. Food - delicious. My wife had the Miami ravioli (pork filled ravioli w/ black bean sauce). Where else are you going to find that? I had the lnguini frutti di mare. It was excellent. I have read some of the other reviews here regarding the service, and the food. Remember that there are other customers besides yourself., and we had about 10 in our group. Everyone order a different dish, and they were all great. Overall, I recommend this restaurant as a change of scenery from your usual miami fare.

This place was recommended to us by a friend. Nice ambiance with a wonderful piano player. Good food and decent service. It has a very small bar area with maybe 16 stools where instead of serving drinks only, people also sit there to eat. My husband, daughter and I had made a reservation for 8:30pm. When we arrived we were told that our table was not ready and that we needed to wait another15-20 mins. My husband is a physician, and while he was attending a call, I noticed a couple leaving the bar area and three stools were becoming available for us. I approached the stools to sit so that we could have a drink while we waited for our table when out of nowhere two guys also approached the stools. The first guy sits and tells his friend to take the other stool, leaving only one stool available for us. I politely told him that I was sitting there and saving those two stools for my husband and daughter who were just outside... To my surprise his response was "Well, I guess we'll have to flip a coin for them huh"!!! I was appalled and the two ladies next to me could not believe it either! These "gentlemen" sat at the bar and had the Miami Spice deal. After a 25-30 min wait we were finally seated. My husband, daughter and I had an "a la carte" meal with wine for a total of about $200. I have to say, I liked the place and I know this incident was random, but I would think twice about the crowd that dines there. This individual was known by the staff and was catered to like a regular client, still, this does NOT excuse his behavior, and to me it leaves a bad impression of the restaurant, sorry.

Made reservation for 8pm for a party of 4. From the moment we arrive we started to ask for martinis , order a total of 2 bottle of wines, appetizers for the 4 of us, main course, desert, after dinner drinks . We ask for the check to pay the bill before the show they were going to have started. We were having our coffee when we were ask to leave the table. We were not allow to finishing our coffee because they want us to pay for the show, that we were not going to see since we had already ask for the check as we were leaving,. At the time we made the reservation there was not ,mention that we were suppose to finish before the show started or pay and extra $55.00 per person. When we complain to the owner about their rudeness in asking customer that were consuming from the moment that we arrive to the moment that we were ask to leave a table and don't even allow them to finish their coffee or after dinner drink, the owners answer was that we were there since 8 and it was 11:30. Did he ever bather to realice that from the moment that we arrive we were consuming customers?? Will NOT visit this restaurant again. I suggest that if someone does, do like i saw and heard many customer doing. They have diner somewhere else , before they arrive and then just pay the $55.00 for the show and consume the minimum. Maybe then the owner would realize and do the math and realize that if they want to be a high scale or medium scale restaurant, they better learn some manners. I understand if iwe were a table that was not consuming and just passing the time and waiting for the show to star, but we never stop consuming from the moment that we arrive to the moment we were ask to leave and don't let us finish our coffee . By the way our check was $410.00 and of course the coffee and after diner drink that they did not allow us to finish were also included.

Last night a friend and I were going to Dadeland and decided to stop here for dinner. We tried the Miami Spice and I'm glad we did. My meal was perfect. I ordered crab cake ,it was delicious, Corvina fish so flavorful , flaky, and coconut flan, what an ending to a perfect meal.

Let me start out by summarizing my review of Café Catula in one word: "Delish!" We had a family dinner there on a Saturday night to celebrate my aunt's birthday. The ambiance was lively and pleasant with a live piano player and interesting art pieces all around. My husband and I had a hard time deciding what to order because we wanted to order one of everything on the menu. They have a great selection of fish/seafood, pasta and steak. We finally decided that he would order the Filet Catula and I would order the Filet of grouper w/crabmeat and lobster sauce and that we would both share. That idea almost worked out perfectly because both of our dishes were divine but neither of us wanted to share our food with the other! The Filet Catula is a Filet Mignon stuffed with goat cheese and roasted peppers. My husband absolutely loved it and did not leave a single bite on his plate Not only was the combination of the flavors on point but the filet was perfectly cooked. My grouper was fresh and it was probably the best crabmeat stuffing I've had. It was not too heavy and was full of crabmeat and not breadcrumbs or filler. None of the food was overly salted, which is a big issue I usually have with sauces. Both of our dishes came with a sweet potato mash and vegetables, which were a nice flavorful supporting cast to our main dishes. We will definitely be back to order the same 2 dishes all over again!

Came here a couple of weeks ago with my mother and step father, we were actually going across the street to Salvatore but we didn't have reservation and the wait was too long so we decided on Catula. I had never been and didn't know you can only valet there which is no biggie only $5 the entrance is very nice there are sculptures from various artist for your viewing pleasure like if you were walking into an art gallery which I think is very neat. On the wall there are also various paintings to look at. The environment is pleasant no complaints as well as the service. Now the food is why I gave this place 5 stars. I ordered the Churrasco with fries and I think veggies It was literally delicious Wow! I am not a churrasco fan most of the times they make it so dry but this place did it just perfect. The fries were so good not stale like other place and we had the chocolate mousse for dessert amazing!! I loved this place will be back!!

Once you enter Cafe Catula, you'll notice how unique are the identity and concept of the restaurant are with its artwork and setting. The menu consists mainly of Cuban, Argentine, Italian and Spanish food. They have excellent octopus, risotto, steaks, pastas and many more dishes. If you want the right balance of: food, service, price, and ambience, in which you know you'll have an amazing time, this is the place.

I went to this restaurant for lunch with a client and loved the ambiance and decor. They had a phenomenal pianist and friendly staff. The food was good with great presentation. The only reason why I did t give it 5 stars was because I felt the veal was a bit tough. I will definitely return.

My crew of hungry but very fabulous foodie girls brought me here for my big 3-3. I've had take out before which I truly enjoyed but one cannot write a fair and accurate review when eating from a take out container. This place makes you forget you're in East Kendall with drunken panhandlers just feet away from your seat. It is dim, cozy, elegant (but not stuffy) and romantic - bring your lady here and you're probably going to get lucky. They have a live piano player which adds a nice touch to your dining/drinking experience. Service was top notch. We ordered pretty much everything on the appetizer menu. My favorites were the tuna tower, empanadas, and provoleta. This is a great place to come for an after work drink with your girls or a sexy dinner with your lover. Outside seating is available but I wouldnt want to overlook the panhandling on 87th ave as I sip on my merlot.

We were a party of 10 looking mainly for Jazz and wines. Instead we got good food and friendly service. The piano was too far from us and wine was below average.

Cafe Catula is definitely a hidden gem! It is in the one place you would not expect a good quality restaurant would be, but it does not fall short of any restaurant. After friends telling us about it, we finally decided to check our the place ourselves! I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was well made. I had the frutti di mare and it was yummy. I would had perhaps added something to bring out the taste a little more, but it had neutrality in a way.. we also ordered some wine and appetizers and they were good as well. When we told our friends about it they said we ordered the wrong stuff and that next time we had to order their favorite dish... so we will be coming back soon. The prices are not low and the portions were somewhat small, but then, it is what it is. I am hoping to see a lot more, food wise, next time I come! :D

Came here for Valentine' Day. It was a bit of a letdown. The menu was a fixed, four course meal for $60. It was a bit pricey. The food was good but nothing impressive. The service was slow, often dragging its feet. A big party arrived and my waiter took care of them, giving us the impression that gr was abandoning us for the possibility of a much greater tip. The ambiance is not bad and the artwork on exhibit was interesting. The piano was wonderful, but the music was overpowered by the noise. I may return when I can order from s normal menu, but I am in no hurry to do so.

My second time at Cafe Catula and I must say I was impressed! This time the waiters were attentive, the dishes were delicious and there was even a show! It turned out to be a great evening and the birthday girl really enjoyed Albita's performance. All in all a victorious comeback!

Any good looking spot in the Kendall area is worth trying out since there aren't too many to choose from. Situated along 87th avenue and Sunset Drive this art gallery combined with a restaurant definitely caught out attention. Reservations at 8pm on a Saturday night was a must. The restaurant caters to an older demographic with a live piano man playing tunes while almost every table was full of patrons enjoying their food and having conversation. The celing is high which can carry a noisier level than other places, so we opted for sitting outside. Weather is almost always great in February to do so. The outside area has a nice intimate decor making you feel like you're somewhere in the Gables, however through no fault of the restaurant you will hear emergency veichles sirens and horns from motorists that can will remind you where you are :) Now, let's get to the experience, shall we? This place is a hit as far as food and ambiance. But a huge miss on service and I will explain why: We sat in a table for two, which was a bit uneven so we requested to move. No other tables for 2 available so table for 4 it is. Waiter sat us down but did not remove the other chinaware / glassware from the table. OK, perhaps a slight miss. It can happen to anyone. We ordered a bottle of Montepulciano d Abruzzo #308 off the menu. Had it before, it was perfect! The bread came along with a light meat sauce for dipping. YUM! However, when the bread came we had to push aside the extra place settings ourselves to make room. Can you believe the waiter just took off and left the place settings behind? Appetizer: Pulpo a la Catula (Grilled Octopus) - Fantastic. Grade: A Entree 1: Risotto Di Masitas: Risotto with chunks of pork and scattered black beans. Weird combination! It was OK, but found the Risotto a bit too soggy. As if the chefs did not take the time to thoroughly prepare. Grade: C Entree 2: Brazino Fish, served with Veggies. This was good, I've had this fish at Season's 52 before. It had great flavor, but again - the attention wasn't there. We found a bit more scales on the fish than expected. This type of fish needs to be cleaned thoroughly. Grade: B- Dessert: Crepes de Dulce Leche: Existing in many places now, but this was a hit. Very well prepared and very tasty. A+ Service: In addition to pointing out the table settlng, we were hardly checked on, our wine was poured the first time and never again. We were not asked if we wanted an additional bottle of wine (missing on revenue!!). There was no "how's the food", etc. Grade: F Recap: The place is very nice almost not belonging in Kendall. However, in my experience the staff needs to brush up on their serving skills. The kitchen also needs to have a bit more TLC with their food. The service and kitchen detail really put a huge dent on an otherwise fantastic place and good tasting food. I can't say I'll visit this place again or not. I'm very much on the fence. For now, 2 stars, and I hope I get to visit again to rewrite and have a better experience.

The food is ok. Nothing out of this world. check the price first, is a rip-off. Ask for the price. ( the speciasl) is very common in Miami to try to scam you.

I leave the neighborhood and Cafe Catula appears, I sense this is a bad omen for me! I have a theory for places like Cafe Catula, they show up in residential neighborhoods, away from the glitz of Miami Beach, the crime of the City of Miami, and the Glam of the Gables. Thieir in an office building on Sunset Dr. four blocks from my old house. Cafe Catula is a great first date place, your lovely first date will be taken so off guard, not because your not laying down $30.00 to park you car in SoBe, or having to pack a piece if you had to drive into the City of Miami, She'll gush at the fact that you won't be paying beach prices, Her breasts will heave by not being seen at Nobu, Prime 112, or The Vix, well maybe not, maybe your first date is the shallow Waffle Head, that needs to be seen, cause you know Justin Beeber, is secretly waiting for her. Screw it, dump that cherish knuckle head, you don't want her anyway, you want someone who will appreciate this place. So, yes the ambiance is that good. And, yes your old stinky bride that you've been married to for years will even like it, it's that interesting. Our service was second to none, they were very proud to serve the food they served, and that's important. I was very impressed with this place. The food, well I was impressed with it also, my lovely date had the black cod it was excellent and I had the Fruita De Mer Risotto, it was perfect. couldn't have been happier. Sadly since you are reading a review from a professional shallow sole, sadly you will never see the talent like you do in the Beach, City of Miami, and some Gables hangout. This has nothing to do with the excellence of this restaurant, just my own shallow ramblings and your guessing that there are positives to going to South Beach!

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and could not be happier. Cafe Catula is a great restaurant in Kendall. Beautiful place with live music and amazing works of art. Great atmosphere and great service. The waiters greeted us by name and remembered it was our anniversary. Piano was beautiful. The menu is varied and has a great selection of tapas, appetizers, fish pasta and seafood. Everything in the menu is fresh and delicious. Great place for a special dinner. The best kept secret in Kendall should be a secret no more!

I work a couple of blocks away and only go out for lunch once every two weeks. I went for lunch and didn't know what to expect. Was I surprised. It is an art gallery and has a piano player as well. The food is amazing. Italian featuring some dishes with a Spanish twist. My friend has the risotto with pork chunks and black beans. Amazing. I had the Shrimp risotto with strawberries. I was hesitant since I do not like to mix sweet with my main course. It was nicely done. The sweetness was subtle. Prices for lunch were reasonable for such nice entrees. Varies from $12-$17 for the lunch specials.

The service here SUCKED. :( Four people and we were there from 7:30 until about 9:30. Our water was only refiled ONCE and that was because we got up to flag down the bus boy to get us water. There were 3 people working and it seemed like the only waiter for the entire place was cool as a cucumber. The only person who was hustling was the busboy. At one point they picked up 2 appetizer plates and left the other 2 empty plates on the table for about 20 minutes before they brought out our entrees. After we received each round of food, the waiter never came by and we literally had to move our heads around like turtles to make eye contact with somebody for something as simple as a sharp knife. However, the food was great. I thought the menu was innovative, fairly priced, and large enough so I won't get bored going back here. I really really wish they'd work on their service!! Is it because 4 young(ish) women ate here alone and we didn't order wine? I wonder why the service was so bad. The place was obviously filled with 3-4 larger tables of regulars and it seemed like the waiter spent most of his time there giving away free samples of wine.

Totally unexpected; exemplary experience. Beautiful ambience, good service, easy parking and extraordinary food. Not what I was expecting for an East Kendall cafe. Not inexpensive--but the quality warrants the premium.

This is getting 2 stars because their dessert was good, If not it would definitely only be get 1. I went last night with my family (we were a party of 10) and had a horrible experience. The waiters were terrible and lacked social skills, on more than one occasion they would just stare at us blankly when asked a question. The food was nothing out of this world. I was told that it was comparable to Cade Denoti and Portofino, that could not be further from the truth. My Husband ordered the Hog Fish but instead was served something that was definitely not a Hog Fish. I ordered a Sprite when we sat down and despite drinking it within the first 10 minutes, it was refilled during dessert. With all the wonderful restaurants in Miami, there is no need to try this one again.

Gorgeous setting (the artwork), and amazing food! Service is a little slow, but not in a bad way. It is meant to be an entire evening out, not a quick meal. Sit back and enjoy, it is all awesome!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
