If you have a need to pickup a cold frosty beverage and you have been to minute markets and their coolers are just too warm, for your liking, head over to West Inn Cantina and check out their beer selection and I know you will like it. I went through....the drive-thru....for package service and picked up a 12-pack of my favorite, returned home, ready to drink lukewarm product, and to my PLEASANT surprise, the items were as if they had been in ice, they were ice cold. Thanks to West Inn Cantina for having a cold cooler with which to dispense my favorite items. I shall be back soon and I appreciate the drive-thru, and speedy service!

LOVE THIS PLACE! This is a dive bar! CHEAP DRINKS Nice craft beer on draft. Friendly service. It is smoke friendly. Bar food menu, reasonably priced. I had the chicken tenders, fries and cheese sticks... all recommended for bar food. Large projection tv of games.

We moved to Jacksonville from Texas and were looking for a comfortable, divey, entirely low maintenance bar with good prices. Enter West Inn Cantina. Go down past the fancy part of Avondale and into the part where you aren't sure if you've left the inhabited part of the strip - that's where you will find West Inn Cantina. Really great bar tenders, fantastic patio, and no one to bother you. Just what we were looking for.

Cheap drinks!!! Is what I hear. This holds true if your mathematics legalize "glass" as an unit of measure. Ounce for ounce, the drinks cost you about the same. The environment is "neat" (I wouldn't mind shooting a porno here) but unless I find myself dating one of the bartenders I will not be coming back (mind you, I think I may have a shot at the red head). I didn't taste the food; I'm not current on my rabies shots. The people that come here are genuinely cool (the old perverted man next to me, that only gets away with what spews from his mouth because it is socially acceptable for him to act accordingly). 2 stars is all I have in this season of giving.

No frills dive bar, and I love it. The barkeeps are nice too. I asked the guy if there was another ATM (the one next door was out of service) & he had them reset it for us. Very nice of him. Super cheap drinks & they've got beer/food specials during football games. I'll definitely be back.

Just okay. Was better when it was still Monty's.

This USED to be a great place to grab some Tex Mex food and then stick around into the after hours for some cocktails and some [extremely loud] live music. They recently stopped serving food and have focused entirely on the bar side of the equation. It's not a terrible move, in a lot of ways, but definitely kills some of the overall scheme of thing. There is a pool table that is pretty popular amongst the patrons, a few video games, always something interesting on the tvs, and an awesome front patio if you are looking for a little escape from the bustle and some people watching. Still, this is a fun place on the Avondale strip to get your drink on, dance to the music because its so loud you can never talk over it, and generally get up to no good. It's a fun time. There is also a liquor store attached to the bar [that also has drive-through service! cha-ching!], so you can take the party home with you!

The West-End Cantina or Monty's as the locals call it. This place is way over rated. The food is OK, and drinks are OK and the service sucks. I usually only go here after bar hoping, that way my drunkness can mask the poor service and food.

Note to self: DON'T TRY TEX-MEX IN FLORIDA. Grossness: BRIGHT RED tortillas. Salt-flavored beans. Salt-flavored rice. Giant pieces of carrot and zucchini in my veggie enchiladas. Pieces that were too big to bite and too stiff to cut. Nasty "mole-kinda" sauce. Bad cheddar cheese. Ugly pastel New Mexico-esque mural. Hotel-looking furniture. We were two of four patrons in an hour and a half at peak lunch hour. Saving grace (second star): Good salsa and decent chips, though they clearly weren't that fresh. I ended up eating a meal of carrot and zucchini sticks, chips, and salsa, as the rest of my stuff was puke-worthy.

Ok bar good music but loud. Yes I know bars are loud. Jessica liked it because it reminded her of some bar from college. A group of guys were playing quarters at the next table so I guess she was right.

There's nothing like eating with a bunch of conservative, mouthy, 60+ year old Republicans that would completely ruin a marginally decent meal. Such was the case at West Inn Cantina. We went there to celebrate my gf's father's birthday and she was warned to lay off the Obama talk so as to not upset Pops on his special day. Too bad Pops couldn't extend the favor on his McCain idolatry. In the meantime, I was having the typical discussion with a know-it-all cousin about high schools distributing condoms without parental consent (Liberal Me: "Maybe it'll cut down on the teen pregnancy rate since parents obviously aren't doing their job of teaching their own kids about birth control." Conservative Cousin: "But they're CONDOMS and they'll promote SEX!") Oy vey. I started drinking when she said that she didn't understand why Asians get offended by being called Oriental because "it's all the same thing." She told ME this... an Asian. But I digress. West Inn has good margaritas. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was eh. I ordered the citrus-marinated pork which I expected to be similar to carnitas with its deep-fried glory but was instead like a pork pot roast. It was served with Mexican rice and a tangy tomatillo sauce. I've loved tomatillos ever since I had had to hunt them down at 4 different grocery stores for a white chili recipe several years ago. The gf ignored my suggestion to get the bacon and gouda quesadillas and instead opted for the crab and shrimp which tasted like low tide. The rest of the table ordered burritos of some sort and spent the rest of the meal complaining about the heat level of the red sauce. Wussies.

(To anyone who's lived in Riverside/Avondale for years, the WIC will always be affectionately referred to as "Monty's" - it's former namesake.) Whatever you call it, this place is a great spot to get some tasty affordable food and/or a stiff drink. The menu has Tex-Mex standards such as burritos, quesadillas (the seafood one is great), tacos and enchiladas along with sandwiches and wraps. They also have some signature entrees (five treasure chicken!) and daily specials. Of course they also provide the requisite free chips and salsa appetizer. Overall, I'd say their food is pretty good but not spectacular - par for any restaurant of this type. The real draw for many is the large bar and it's late-night crowd (they have theme nights and performing bands) and the attached drive-thru liquor store. The liquor store is a bit more expensive than a place like ABC but it's worth the markup for the convenience - and it's open until 2am! The only drawback of the bar/liquor store is it generates enough profits for them to allow smoking inside - but you can eat outside, I always do. Do not overlook WIC/Monty's on a nice day when you can sit in their covered outdoor area and sip a margarita as you overlook St. Johns Ave and the sidewalks of Avondale. Great for a casual daytime date or as a meet up location with friends.
