I am a burrito lover. There is something almost indescribably awesome about a meal that can be contained inside itself and eaten sans utensils, that is also SPICY. Yum, On that note, the best thing about Tijuana Flats is their hot sauce bar. It is really impressive, with at least 20 different options to choose from, ranging from the simply sweet and tangy to the I-am-gunna-cry spicy hot. So good and makes their burritos mucho bueno. Other than that, not too much stands out about this particular burrito joint. The atmosphere has a rock and roll vibe, and is full of bright colors. The food is fresh. They do include fresh, not pickled, jalapenos which can really kick you in the ass if you aren't careful. And you have your choice between black beans and rice or chips as your side. However, the chips aren't amazing and neither is the queso, which is kind of a bummer. I do love that they have a list that tells you how to eat lightly if you want to. Not too many Mexican restaurants are so respectful to the healthy muncher. My favorite dish to get is the Blackened Chicken Burrito on a whole wheat wrap, power lite [fat free cheese and sour cream], regular size. They also come in Tijuana and Megajuana sizes and can contain beef, regular chicken, chicken and beans, beef and beans, steak, or vegetarian. The menu also offers a lot of other options besides burritos, including chimichangas tacos, enchiladas. flautas, tostadas, salads, and rice bowls [like a salad with rice instead of lettuce]. Definitely a tasty, reliable burrito joint that should be on anyone's short list!

Great, laid back atmosphere, amazing food, friendly staff. The menu allows for customization, including lighter options. I just wish I could have gotten a Margarita with my dinner, but other than that, it was wonderful.

Tijuana flats has been one of my fav quick Tex Mex options since college. When I'm feeling like splurging, the chimichanga is where its at. It's essentially a fried burrito topped with SC, olives, jalepenos, etc. When I'm feeling healthier, I usually choose a norrito (burrito bowl) or whole wheat burrito. I love that Tijuana has the powerl ite option with light cheese & SC. My only complaint about Tijuana is that they don't give free salsa with the chips...seems like it should be a part of the mexi restaurant protocol if you ask me. The hot sauce bar does make up for it :) Overall, great service, quick & delicious.

Recent visit to this location wasn't as pleasant as it could have been. They had a band... well, a guy with a sampling box and a guitar, two turntables, and a microphone... Don't know if this is a regular feature, or if it was due to the Cinco de Mayo festivities, but the music was too damn loud. I can deal with music that isn't exactly my style, but set the volume to a level appropriate for the size of the venue. I literally could not hear the counter help as I placed my order. The hard surfaces inside didn't help. Aside from that, the food was ok. It was late-ish, around 9, or so. Service was -just- a bit sub-par. I'm guessing the staff was ready to go home after a long day of celebrating. The hot sauce bar did not disappoint. Found some tasty and zingy sauces.

Once you get past the insipid bumper stickers adorning the front counter and the day-glo drawings covering the walls, Tijuana Flats is a pretty decent food establishment. It's got the usual Tex-Mex offerings of taco salads, chimichangas, quesadillas, tacos, etc. The burritos and chimichangas come in 3 sizes. The megajuana size can feed a small family as too can the Ultimate Nachos. You have your choice of various meat fillings and everything has a vegetarian and/or low-fat option. While waiting for your food to arrive, you can amuse yourself by reading the names of the sauces at the hot bar (a pumping station that has about 15-20 options of hot sauces) - names like Smack My Sweet Ass & Call Me Sally and Psycho Bitch Habanero. The salsa is ridiculously addictive and I don't even like salsa all that much. If you order the churros, be sure to cool them down for a good 15 minutes or else you will blister your mouth.

Love this location! The staff is really friendly. It's just got a great vibe! Taco Tuesday is a great deal. The salsa bar is awesome. We like the patio. The colorful decor inside is nice too. Staff works really hard to make it a great experience. Would love to come back for happy hour!

I do like Tex Mex. Tijuana Flats is a sure thing. Fresh food, good portion and customizable orders. Love the hot sauce bar because of the variety and the crazy names. Love the 12 foot tall zombie murals staring at you from the walls. Sometimes the food can be on the salty side but it's not terrible. Queso today was a little runny but flavor was still good. Chips fresh and bountiful today too. Sometimes all we get is a skimpy handful to go with our meals but not on this visit. A mountain of chips to go with the queso. Very nice. No complaints on my No-Ritto and everyone else enjoyed their burritos. Overall, a solid and welcome lunch or dinner choice to kill those hunger pangs. I'd definitely return (and probably will).

Great, friendly service. Taco Tuesday is great deal although the sweet tea wasn't as good as it usually is. A young woman asked if we needed refills right before I decided to eat too many jalapeños (fresh, so good!). Right before I was about to leave the patio a man came up and asked if I needed a refill. YES I DID. Drinks are refilled and then asks if we would like some more chips and also if we wanted queso. Well, we didn't order queso but sure that sounds yummy. Who doesn't love free food?

So much damn plastic, styrofoam...food is awesome but they definitely mother earth friendly. You would figure if you just open your eyes companies would be friendlier to our envioronment but the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR, changes things. I took my Plasticware with me and recycled it but...No one else would which makes this even worse. Food and Service are wonderful here.

This is pretty good tex mex, Mexican, whatever you wanna call it. I usually get the Dos Tacos with flour shells. The chicken is always tasty with just enough flavor. The toppings are always fresh. I love the variety of hot sauces to choose from. You could try a new one every day for 2 weeks. This day I chose the Mexican pizza. Great for one person. Once again, all fresh toppings. Especially the raw jalapenos and black olives. They always have specials too, the most famous is probably Taco Tuesdays. This particular location can get very crowded and noisy during lunch time hours. You order at the counter then sit down and listen out for your name to yelled across the restaurant, so pay attention. Then they bring it to you. The cleanliness is above average and the staff is always upbeat and friendly.

After being a somewhat frequent attendee of Moe's for many years it didn't take long to learn that Tijuana Flats blows Moe's out of the water. The burritos (and their contents) are a notch or two above Moe's here. If you are in the mood for a quick lunch this is an excellent spot. The service is very good, too.

To begin I love Tijuana Flats!!! The food is great! You can specify what you want and how you want your food. I usually ask for half orders, as that fits my needs. My family eats at TF every time we can. We were visiting in Jacksonville and this TF is close to where we stayed. We had been before to this location on other visits. The food as always was great, but the service lacked some. However, this time we were met at the door and JP, the manager, came out to help us with our order. This was more like what we have been use to at our TF in St Petersburg FL. JP told us on the weekend they have a band, which sounds great. We are planning another trip to Jacksonville and hope to make it over a weekend to eat at this TF. If you haven't tried Tijuana Flats yet, you are missing out on great food, as well as great service. Go, go, go, now:).

My fiance said it best when she pointed out that this is the "mellow mushroom" of mexican food. Just look around when you are in there, the murals on the walls, hand painted ceiling tiles from the customers and the correct selection of music playing the background. Quick service, helpful and polite employees, the food is always good and freshly made and a pretty good beer selection for a smaller place. Their tortilla chips a freshly made, the salsa is great and they guacamole, though a little chunkier for me, has great flavor with the right mixture of ingredients. You cannot go wrong going here to grab a bite.

They have a lot of great hot sauces here and they bring you samples with free tortilla chips on your first time there. But as for the food...I wasn't impressed. The chicken taco was completely flavorless; I had to drown it in one of the sauces. The beef taco was equivalent of the old Wendy's salad/taco bar, if anyone remembers that. The fish tacos weren't good either, even though they had been recently upgraded to the mahi mahi. I guess you can't expect it to be that good though since it appears to be more of a fast food restaurant. I didn't know this when I came. You order at the counter and then find a seat and bring your own food over. If I ever came back here it would be strictly for nachos with different hot sauces. I'd rather go to Taco Bell.

Good atmosphere and the people that work there are always having a good time. The employees really make this place. The hot sauce bar has some good sauces to choose from. Draft Beer selection is decent for a place this size with some local brews too. Food wise, it is decent. I am from Texas, so Mexican food is a part of my daily diet. For Florida, it's as good as you can get. For Texas, just ok. Power of the Polo!! Ask for it when you go in.

This is the Jax rendition of the Tijuana chain, which is primarily in Florida but spot locations elsewhere in the country. It beats Chipotle/Qdoba out of the water any day. They serve you at your table, refill your drinks, and do pretty much anything you'd like. The quesadillas with blackened chicken, power lite (low fat cheese and FF sour cream) is my fav. You can even get wheat tortillas. It is absolutely customized to your tastes! Dont count out the sauce bar with over 12 different sauces, ranging from sweet to down right hot. The salsas are made fresh in house every morning - no freezer or microwave here. Great option for fast food "authentic" (used loosely) mexican fare. Con: Cookie doug flautas and guacamole are average. Boo!

This place is great for a relaxed atmosphere and decent food. If you are looking for Mexican that is a few steps up in quality from fast food but you aren't looking to gorge yourself on the full Mexican experience of a high end restaurant this is the place. I'd rather eat here than Chipotle/Moe's. The staff is friendly and eclectic. The atmosphere is straight off a college campus, and the hot sauce selection will meet any taste.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
