"The Pig" has been around forever. Growing up in the '70s near the one on Lem Turner, it was THE place to go before those other guys (one starts with an S, one with a W and one with a B) became popular. Today, when my elderly mother who has mobility issues and uses a walker, wanted to go out for lunch, we chose here. It's easily been 25+ years since I've been to The Pig. The first thing that "struck" me was that while the handicap parking was right there in front of the door, once you got inside, you had to maneuver around a "privacy" wall about 10-15 feet in from the door. On the "entrance" side of this wall, are two park benches for those waiting or doing a take out order. So if you go left, there's barely enough room for a walker to pass through (I had to move one of the benches actually) to get in to the dining area. If you go right, that puts you in to the register, drink prep area. Either way, it can be nerve racking to get to a seat.....if you're mobility challenged. Once we were seated, it is seat yourself, our server Sheryl, came to take our order. Sheryl was courteous, friendly and displayed great patience while my mother asked questions that didn't always make sense. She did check on us a couple of time throughout the lunch, no complaints here. We both ordered the regular pork sandwich with two sides. The buns were toasted, sesame seed hamburger buns. The problem was the toasting made them soft on the bottom, so once you had the sandwich in your hands, don't let it go. The pork was finely chopped and a little dry, a little BBQ sauce took care of that, it did lack the smoke flavor I was hoping for. The cole slaw was finely chopped and had a pretty good flavor. The baked beans had bits of onions and bell pepper in them that was a different flavor, but not bad. The sweet tea wasn't overly sweet like some places, but not bitter either. Overall it was okay. I wouldn't go out of my way to revisit.

We've been coming here for a few years now and it always hits the spot. Good prices, good portions and great BBQ. We usually get takeout and the ladies are super accommodating with our requests for ranch dressing and extra sauce etc. try the pulled pork, it's tasty.

Good food, family friendly establishment located at the corner of Phillips Highway and Old St. Augustine Road. My son and I ate the 1/2 feast which consisted of half slab of ribs, half chicken, and pulled pork. It came with garlic bread and three sides. We chose the baked beans, fries, and green beans. I wanted collards too, but maybe next time. Loved their ribs and chicken, but their pulled pork tasted ok. They have good sauces and by combining the sweet sauce with the mustard sauce, I created the perfect sauce that worked well with the pork. Plenty of food for your money. The service was great! Our server was courteous and she had a pretty smile. Good experience overall. Kids eat free all day on Mondays and they have Trivia on Wednesdays at 7 PM.

Plain disgusting. We have given it three tries thinking it has been just bad luck but the olace is dirty, the service is awful, and the food is even worse

I enjoy their food and the prices are great. Not sure what's going on with the service staff though. It has been great but lately they've seemed overwhelmed and I wasn't sure why. i didn't see a large group come in or leave. Or someone pickup a large togo order. The breakfast is probably the best deal around. Noting face or sheik about it. Just good plain food with a good plain price. It's too bad Wednesday night trivia night is gone but the last time we went the crowd was small and heck they had even closed the bar up. Too bad.

Totally and completely in love with their ribs. The chicken and pulled pork are delicious too. And their baked beans are my favorite anywhere. Even though it's a bit of a hike compared to some of the other large chains near our house, we make the trek here. It's too good! We order from here about every two weeks. We used their catering recently for a large family gathering and found it to be very affordable for the amount of delicious BBQ and sides you get. The family loved it! Go eat at The Pig and stay away from the chains!

Best BBQ In town. I've been eating Pig BBQ for 40 years. Good food at good price.

I visited here with my husband and kids and the food was not good at all... borderline disgusting! Everything tasted like it came from the frozen food aisle -- scratch that... I've had better food from the frozen foods section than this place. Nothing was fresh! The bad taste couldn't even be masked with BBQ sauce. The corn nuggets tasted like freezer burn. The turkey was dry and the pulled pork was just blah!!! My poor kids didn't even eat their chicken and fries--even they didn't like it. Save your money and go to Bono's!

We went to The Pig Bar-B-Q for Sunday breakfast. While better known for its barbeque platters and country music, The Pig offers a limited but excellent breakfast menu. I had the French toast plate; the other two members had the traditional platter. The latter is two eggs, sausage or bacon or both , grits and toast. The French toast plate includes two eggs and bacon or sausage or both. I got all sausage patties and there were six patties. The French toast was six half slices. Both the traditional ($4.49) and the French toast plate ($5.49) were a hearty platter of food for a very nominal sum. The coffee is excellent and the server kept our cup full. There is a mix of tables and booths with plenty of room to walk around. The atmosphere is friendly and convivial. This is a neat, somewhat out of the way location to have a relaxing, but very delicious and fulfilling breakfast.

This is a poor excuse for BBQ. The service is mediocre at best. Meat selections are dry and low quality. It is really sad too because it is in the perfect location for just decent BBQ.

The number one worst bbq joint I've been to in my life. Mac and cheese is tasteless. Baked beans are terrible, probably dumped out of a Cisco can. Ribs are barely passable and there are two sauces on the table and only two more available , don't waste your time go to MoJos, it's a real bbq place.

Not too sure how this place got 3.5 stars. The pulled pork was dry and had no flavor. Mac and cheese tasted like noodles and water. Wouldn't recommend going here to anyone.

Was here with my wife and a new co-worker on a business trip to Jacksonville a week ago. We ordered from the "Lunch" menu... great prices and HUGE amounts of good food! There is a large assortment of classic "southern" style sides you can choose from. The service was good. The food was good. I will be back when I am back in JAX. I didn't try it this time... but they have a $1 draft beer special (their own brew) I was anxious to try.... next time!

Food is good with a good mix of offerings. Service has been fine with some of the people having fun. Plus $1.00 beer.

Had a choice between this place and the nearby Bono's BBQ. After reading the reviews on both I thought I made the right decision. Now I'm not sure but can say between the poor food, service and flies I won't be going back to this place. We went for dinner with 3 adults and 2 kids and while it wasn't busy the service was pretty poor. We had 2 different servers(?) and neither one made eye contact with us until the end of the meal when we requested a take home box. I did notice that 2 other tables being served by the same crew apparently were 'regulars' as they chatted it up and received plenty of attention and drink refills. Sadly the food was as bad as the service. We shared a family size Po boy Special which included ribs chicken and 3 sides. Plenty of food (and flies) but not very good. The ribs were over cooked and extremely fatty. The chicken wasn't bad but pretty dry. As for the sides I could only recommend the french fries. Lima beans were so overlooked it was like soup and the fried corn on the cob I'm betting was leftover from lunch. We did ask for bread but informed that would be extra since garlic bread is a 'side' option... The positive was the kids liked their chicken and grilled cheese. Oh, and the afore mentioned take home box was so the dog could at least enjoy our $60.00 meal. As for a recommendation I would pass and search out other options. Rumor has it the Italian restaurant in this same shopping center is pretty good, we shall see.

My husband grew up eating at The Pig on Lem Turner, and warned me it's not fancy fare. That said, I enjoyed the ribs and thought the service was fine. The side salad was okay - I'm not overly fond of iceberg, but it kind of fits here - and their original sauce is a Jacksonville classic. So, I recommend it, but suggest having the right expectations.

I was having a party and I asked this place to smoke a whole hog for me and I also ordered a few items for my party. The whole hog (33lbs) was very good. My guest were very impressed and they kept asking me where I ordered the BBQ pig. The hog was juicy and flavored through. It was excellent. I also ordered corn nugget, smoked sausage and whole chickens. And these items were gone before I could even taste it. Overall I was very satisfied with my catering ordered and will definitely recommend to give it a try.

Love this place - I placed orders for two graduation parties, and all our guests loved the food - especially the ribs. I just placed an order for a tailgating party for the Jags/Steelers game. We were picking up the order at 0830. We ordered The Piglet for 15 people although there were only 6 of us being fed. Our order was ready with a smile (great customer service), food was hot and there was plenty of food. In fact,. we fed ourselves and had so much food that we offered to others at the tailgate. One fan said it was like the loaves and fishes for we must have fed 25 people (including ourselves). Great food at a great price, great customer service, and undoubtedly, the best in Jacksonville.

Their breakfast is amazing. Everything we have had is awesome. Fish and grits, eggs, bacon and pancakes. It is worth a try!

I have eaten at The Pig many times and have never been disappointed. The meat has a great smokey flavor, their portion sizes are HUGE and CHEAP! The service was fast and friendly, the food was hot, and the atmosphere is great - the St. Augstine location is new and clean, it smells of wood and smoke like a BBQ place should. Their menu is also extensive - there are lots of items to chose from. If you want a big meal for less money and you love good barbeque definately go to the Pig!!!!

Horrible service and gross food. Chose The Pig over Bonos based on friends reviews and I was 100% disappointed. I left my oversized portion of crap on my plate and left. The place is hot inside, flys, and just made you feel filthy. Wouldn't return if it was free.

The mustard based BBQ sauce was a real treat. I had the ribs and chicken combo plate. There was enough on the plate to feed two people. The food and service was great.

Kind of disappointing, not bad, but I've had much better bbq at rib shack, mojo's, or even Sonny's
