Went to the one in Callahan.. and it was really good and the staff was very friendly like being at Granny's house... HOWEVER, went to the one on Normandy today... and I could not get out of there fast enough.. the waitress was "ON SOMETHING" see was very "OUT OF IT" (lay off the drugs sweetie)... The FORK looked like it had been dipped in cheese grits and left to dry.. Onion rings were burnt, I told her to take them back.. and she gave them to the table next to us...I got the PORK PLATTER and she brought me me a BBQ sandwich.. and the Banana Pudding was served with a...FORK !!!

This update reflects the results of my independent Jax. Rib Off. Five slabs from five different restaurants were test tasted by 11 hand picked rib experts. The Pig - Tenderness - 4.6, Smokey Taste - 3.9, Moistness - 4.4, Fat Content - 4.2 and Personal Preference - 3.7 Overall Average - 4.2. Comments: Although I've had excellent ribs from here, they fell off the tender scale in this test. This is the hit and miss part of ordering pork ribs. They were judged second in personal preference and virtually tied at the top with HH and Tremendous but settled in 3rd place. The Pig's rib history has been inconsistent and I will recommend them, but check your horoscope before you order.

went to the PIG on St. Augustine today and was disappointed. Had the sampler since it was our first time beef ribs were very fatty and flavorless so was the pork BBQ even putting the sauce on it didn't help and the tea was like drinking water. They do have great slaw. Will not be back.

My family and I will not return here. The food is just so-so and the service is awful. We actually spend over an hour waiting on our meals and even then, I received beef instead of pork. Had to send it back and then wait even longer. Not quite sure how they stay in business with customer service like that. I will add that the business seemed to lack the staff necessary to manage the customers. As we were leaving, almost two hours after arriving, additional staff was called in to work. One waitress even had to bring her young child in to work, who sat at the counter coloring while Mom tried to help out. The small dining room has potential, but lacks the leadership needed to make it run smoothly.

We got there last night around 9pm and were welcomed with a smile and quick service. I had the ribs and chicken combo, excellent with some even better than usual cole slaw and a sizzleing hot and fresh order of fries. The chicken was moist and tender as were the ribs. Our other order ( for a seemingly starving lumberjack) was the small rib plate on garlic toast (nothing small about it when it arrived), the shrimp basket which was a dozen or so of some really tender and tasty fresh and definitely not frozen shrimp, along with great tartar sauce and some nice sharp cocktail sauce and a side of their tender and smokey shredded pork. All of the above chased down with a big pitcher of ice cold beer. Needless to say, some of it made it home.. not much though! If you get there earlier in the day they usually have an assortment of side vegetables like collards ( full of smokey shreds of that great pork) peas and snaps and some really good mac n' cheese. P.S you'll want to put both their Pig Sauce and Ketchup on your fries.. mmmm. They also have a nice sweet sauce if youre not into the spicy mustard based Pig Sauce.

I had the ribs plate and it was really good. Friendly service and good prices. I would eat there again the next time I'm in town.

our staple for eating out. the ribs are quite possibly the best thing you can order, drench them with pig sauce AND sweet sauce. coleslaw is Fabulous! the sides vary everyday, and whatever they have as a dessert is highly recommended you get a bowl. the servers are all very nice, atmosphere is very friendly. bathrooms clean. one more thing, they DO have beer: michelob and bud light.

AWFUL!!! My husband & I called an order in for 2 BBQ beef sandwiches...the large sandwiches. Every time we have ordered from here we ask for the pig sauce. We have always received 2, as the sandwiches are quite large. When we got back to work, there was one sauce in each box that was filled half way. Normally I wouldn't care, but for two meals it was $28. For the small sandwiches you get one, for the large, you get two. The next thing that made me angry was I had to sift through the sandwich and pick off an obscene amount of fat. I lost half of the sandwich. Gross!!! We normally order from the Pig BBQ in Callahan because that restaurant ROCKS!!! Their sandwiches NEVER have fat, always get extra sauces at no charge. No wonder why they have better business!!!! Although we work in Marietta, I will make the extra long drive to Callahan if we want the Pig BBQ!!!

I really liked this place for breakfast on a Sunday morning with my breakfast club. We had about 15 of us and we sat in the back patio to eat. The food was good, prices good the Waitress was wonderful. Some of our group teased the Waitress and she was very busy, but was a great sport and took it all in stride. I think this is the first time I have ever eaten at a BBQ JOINT for breakfast. Kudos to the staff here! I will be back soon.

Not bad,a lot of food for the money, but sorta dark on the inside, other than that my visit to Jacksonville is complete.WORD.

SUPER RIBS. Tender chicken. Unbelievable mac/cheese. Nice waitresses Kayie and Cassidy and service, good prices. A little more than a storefront in a mixed neighborhood. Definitely up for a return soon.

I'm not sure what's going on at this location, but something has changed, and not for the better. Went in today for a late lunch, and noticed that the "all you can eat" special signs were missing. I asked the waitress about that, and she said that there had been a price increase, and they were waiting for new signs. I asked what the price on the pork was, and was told $10.99. That's a bump of a buck, and seemed to be reasonable, so I ordered that (like I said, it was late, and I was looking to avoid dinner...) I also recalled, correctly, that you can no longer switch up on veggies on the all you can eat plates. Whatever two you pick, that's what you can re-order. Not sure how this helps the bottom line, but... it's their place, so they can set the rules. Plate came out pretty quickly. The sandwich was a small sandwich, but that's ok, cuz... you can get more. Peas and snaps tasted right out of the can. Okra and tomato side was better, a little sweet, with bacon in it. Finished the first round and... waited. My waitress completely forgot that I had ordered the all you can eat. Which was funny, because she CHARGED me for the all you can eat, and at a higher rate than quoted. (It was $11.99, not $10.99 -- I likely would have opted for just a sandwich at that price point.) Anyway, she apologized profusely for her absent-minded mistake, and put in another order, and brought me another tea, which had gone dry -- one of my pet peeves. The re-order took quite some time to come out, as did the refill on tea. I ate it, and... waited. For $11.99, I was going to make sure I got that 3rd sandwich (call me cheap - you won't be the first) and she FINALLY asked, and put in the order. Which she promptly forgot about. I was just ready to give up and leave, when I heard a voice call from the kitchen "Who gets this pork sandwich?", and one of the other waitresses delivered it to me. Not surprisingly, my tea had gone dry again. If they had been busy, maybe I could understand, but there were never more than 2 other parties in the store while I was there. It'll be a while before I give this location another chance. Three stars for food, one for service, call it a two.

We love their " One of a Kind BBQ Sauce." This place is very low key but charming in a southern way. Staff is always friendly and food is the best on Normandy. R.. always gets the Ribs. I get the A Sandwich. Its always great. The Sweet Tea Rocks!!!

Even though we've lived on the Westside for years, we've never come here before. We always wanted to but would forget until after the fact. It has been on our minds lately since their ads have been appearing on television. We insisted my husband choose dinner last night (he never does) so he thankfully remembered The Pig and so we went. I was rather hesitant, I mean it was a Friday night, but the place was about 1/2 full and constantly remained at that status the entire time. At first glance, I'm sure a lot of people would be disappointed. It was very clean, with a fresh paint job on the walls, but the tables and menus were very worn. We have learned though, places like this should not be judged on appearances. The restaurant is long and narrow with the register and take out area immediately within the front door. We stood there for a moment, unsure of what to do, and then a waiter (Chris) came up and told us to sit where we wanted. We were immediately greeted, given menus and had a drink order taken. It took a while to figure out exactly what we wanted. My husband wanted okra as a side, but like most places around here, it's only served as an appetizer, so we ordered that to start with. It came out very fast, piping hot from the fryer. Lite batter, crisp but cooked inside, served with a house-made ranch sauce and more than enough for the three of us. My daughter had the regular grilled hamburger with steak fries and baked beans. The burger was tasty and large and the steak fries were perfect, super crispy and fluffy on the inside. I did not try the baked beans, but she liked them very much. My husband had the Bar-B-Que Sampler plate, with chicken, ribs, and pulled pork. His sides were fried corn (unusual but good, on the cob) and cole slaw (very fresh and tasty). The pulled pork was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I had the Combo Plate (chicken & ribs) with green lima beans and mashed potatoes & gravy. The limas were a treat, with huge hunks of pork (ham?) in them and the mashed potatoes were thick and rich, with a tasty brown gravy. Now, on to the meat. In my opinion, the best BBQ should be tasted without sauce, the sauce is only a condiment. These passed the test. The chicken was perfectly smoked, a lovely grey-pink color throughout and very moist with a tasty dry skin. The ribs were humongous. I've had longer ribs at other BBQ places, but never with as much meat on them as these did. There was a spicy-brown mustard based BBQ sauce (aka "Pig Sauce") on the table and the waiter offered us a sweet one, which we turned down. The mustard sauce was very thin, but extremely flavorful, the acidic nature of which perfectly balanced the rich meat. All in all, none of us could finish all of our dinner so we got a to-go box. My husband was shocked (seriously) at how little our bill was for the amount & quality of food we received. The waitstaff was great. Our main server was a gentleman named Chris and he was a very hard worker. Constantly in motion, always there when needed, but never hovering. He also bussed tables and cleaned them and the chairs after each use. If you couldn't tell by this point, I'll just say it. We loved this place and will definitely recommend it to anyone wanting good BBQ.

This place seems dirty the table we sat at had been freshly wiped down you could see the wet marked. It had coleslaw on the edge of the table, a rolled up straw wrapper beside the salt and pepper shakers and the table is still sticky. I will not be eating here again. I wanted to leave anyway but my friend insisted. We will see how the food is. Food was ok . Just won't go back again because of the cleanliness of this place.

I'm not often on the west side of town, but I took my family to meet up with some friends at The Pig and it was worth the 25ish mile drive. We're a little short on good barbecue at the beaches, so those of you that get to step out of your front door and choose between this and Monroe's or whatever have the luxury of choice; I'm probably a half-star or so high on The Pig just because getting over to it was such an event. I ordered the large rib platter with green beans and collards - $10.99 for a generously-sized half-slab of ribs; the prices here are definitely a few bucks lower than I've come to expect. The ribs themselves were a little on the greasy side and not particularly bravely seasoned, but they were solid enough and definitely worth the price. The collards don't seem to be a regular menu item, which is baffling, because they are absolutely top-notch - slightly sweet and not bitter at all, and rich like they were cooked down with a probably-unhealthy amount of grease (this is a compliment). The sauces at The Pig are a little nonstandard for North Florida BBQ: a speckled spicy mustard sauce, and a (very) sweet sauce. I thought the spicy sauce was a little thin and the sweet didn't have enough tang, so I mixed 'em together and that worked just fine. When I'm meeting my Lake City friends halfway, The Pig will be a worthy rendezvous point in the future.

We went there as a family of 5 hoping to find the food was good. We had heard it was good. The service took forever, including getting drinks. When we got the food parts of the order were incorrect and my salad that had pulled turkey had at least 3 pieces of bone in it. We won't be back. They need to step it up if they want to stay in business.

The food was not what I expected after reading the rave reviews about it. It was not very good. The pulled pork had no smoke flavor and had an awful texture. Almost like it was boiled instead of smoked. The ribs had barely any meat on them, and the meat that WAS on them was so burnt and hard I couldn't eat it. The chicken was just ok. I had the sampler platter. The fried squash was good. That was the only thing I enjoyed. As for customer service, that was also horrible. The waitress was completely spaced out. I asked for ranch with my squash and she never brought it. I had to get hold of another waitress to get it. Our waitress was also supposed to bring out more French fries and she never did. I probably won't come back here. I understand they may have had an off day, but it was enough to deter me from eating here. Hopefully my dogs will enjoy the leftovers.

I really like this place. From the quaint country atmosphere to the fire bbq. Only giving The Pig 4 stars due to the inconstancy of the food. When it is good it is, imo, the best bbq in Jacksonville. But sometimes you go in and ribs seem to be a little greasy or a little fatty. Not sure if it is different cooks or the slab. I've only ever gotten the large dinner and seldom vary from this selection at any bbq joint. BBQ is so subjective and there are so many different kinds. Many bbq restaurants offer a variety of sauces while the Pig only offers 1 and I absolutely love it. Okay there are 2 but i'm not a fan of there sweet. To me bbq sauce should be runny and vinegar based so that it penetrates and breaks down the meat. This is what Pig Sauce is. There are quite a few places in Jacksonville for really good bbq. From Mojo's to Tremendous to the smoker in my backyard. The Pig is my regular.
