The Burgergeeks hunt for the best burger in Jacksonville brought us to the Loop. First impression about the burger was that it was a good burger for a lunch time burger. It was a good burger but it was missing the wow factor that we are looking for to be the best burger in Jax. So for us the hunt continues. You can read a more detailed review on our blog at Burgergeeks.blogspot.com or follow us on twitter @Burgergeeks to see where our next review takes us.

I opted for the BBQ, Bacon, and Cheddar Burger, which was pretty good. The Burger had thick slices of Caramelized Red Onion, which gave it a kick, but a very taste one. My fries were definitely lacking in the flavor and temperature department, but the Burger made up for that.

The loop is a local franchise and over the years have changed quite a bit. However, I am proud to say that they give a high quality meal. It is consistent. They also offer gluten free buns (udis) and gluten free pizzas. They are a great place for kids....or larger groups. I highly recommend them for most occasions.

The food is great. Friendly service. They have a lot to choose from the menu at a very descent price. Their salads are amazing. Anything from the menu is delicious.

I love their burgers but you can always smell raw sewage while your trying to relax for a meal.... this place has had this smell for over a years time.... I can't believe the employees don't say something about it

This is my first visit to this particular location. It was busy but not unmanageably so. When we approach the counter the girl was helping somebody else and we waited in line with maybe three other groups. The line went fairly quickly. We ordered one make your own pizza, one BBQ chicken pesto pizza, one portobello bacon pizza, onion rings and a bowl of tomato bisque. The tomato bisque was very good as usual. barbecue chicken pizza was excessively spicy and the menu doesn't say spicy but somehow it was spicy. My son could not eat it. When I order came up they had made one of the pizzas wrong and it took 15 minutes for them to get the right one out while everybody else already ate their pizza. When we rang up the order and ordered the soup and onion rings I asked the girl if she could make that first and she said no it's too late and I asked if she could go let the kitchen no and she said no she wasn't going back there which was all of a 10 foot walk. Then she ran out of customers and walked back there anyway but didn't bother to tell them. After that I snapped a picture of her standing around looking at the menu. She was totally rude and unaccommodating. Very matter-of-fact about her unwillingness to help us. When the order came up I discovered that she never put in the order for the onion rings. We had to order them after-the-fact and wait another five or 10 minutes for them. So much for the appetizer I guess it was dessert. My pizza was a bacon portobello and it was tasty but light on the portobello mushrooms. The texture of the pizza is decent, better than your average chain fast food pizza like dominoes. For nine dollars the 8" pizzas were substantially overpriced because you can get a decent twice that size for half the price most anywhere but I guess you're paying for sitting at the restaurant. When we finally got our onion rings they were quite tasty, but the sauce they get with that is nothing but mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup makes together and it tastes like mustard, nasty. It's a shame that this place is in such a nice neighborhood so they are pretty much guaranteed business and feel that they can be complacent about customer service. There is a bus boy that walks around cleaning tables and that is nice. All in all I give the food a 3 of 5 and that is stretching it, the atmosphere may be a 3 1/2 to 4 for what it is, and the service gets a one or maybe less. We won't be back there are way too many nice choices in the same neighborhood.

Let me say I hate to be the negative ninny but my burger was just ok. It kind of fell apart in my hand and had a seasoning I did not recognize or like. Would I try them again yes maybe try something differernt like the chicken or pizza. For me was not the greatest experience.

Seriously as good as it gets. Their multi-cheese pizza is the best pizza in the world, and I've had lots of pizza. My boyfriend always gets the burgers which as also great, even delicious salad options. I go every time I go to Jax.

I think of the loop like I do Wendy's, not a bad place to grab a quick bite. Bathrooms are terrible, service and seating mediocre. Like any other fast food place but they do serve wine.

Everyday those of us in the hospitality business have opportunities to shine during moments of truth. Sadly, the manager of The Loop chose not to rise to the occasion today and shine. I won a gift certificate at a charity event last year that was paired with a nearby theatre subscription. For our second show we decided to dine at the loop before the show, not realizing that the gift certificate expired a couple weeks earlier. When we asked the manager if they would still honor it without any hesitation she said that she could not and that there was nothing she could do, as she was walking away. The food was pretty good, but the condition of the building and especially the Men's room was as bad or worse than the manager's attitude. I have seen nicer restrooms in old gas stations. There was even a cushioned toilet seat, something I doubt is legal, not to mention it was the wrong size. We had heard good things about The Loop before we went so it was very disappointing that it did not live up to our expectations.

The Loop actually is one of my faves for lunchtime fare. This location gets very crowded around lunchtime but the food is always consistant, hot and fresh. Sometimes you have to wait a little longer than you may like around lunchtime so Ive learned to keep it simple. I normally get a Loop burger with swiss. Its always cooked perfectly..If you ask for medium, thats exactly what you'll get. So expect the pink. The brocolli for a side is agood choice, its always salted just right. Smetimes I'll be a good boy and get a salad. The spinach salad is my fave. It has mushrooms and purple onions with red wine dressing. Great taste and always fresh. Tell them to add some grilled chicken for an even better taste..Prices are moderate. Expect to pay around $10 for lunch.

The Loop in San Marco has the best burgers, onion rings, and chocolate MALTS in Jacksonville! It's amazing I can get all of these things at one sitting. Everything is serve hot and delicious or the very helpful Manager will replace it no questions asked. The Pizza is pretty darn good too!

I have been frequenting the loop since I was a little kid. I have been to locations in Mandarin, St John's County, the Beach, Baymeadows & San Marco. Each serves quick, quality food at a decent price. Some of my favorite's at the loop are: tomato bisque soup (so creamy & rich!), crunchy broccoli salad with sweet red wine vinaigrette (vegetarian), spicy cilantro chicken pizza, spicy cajun chicken sandwich. The steak fries are always hot & salty & they make their own croutons for the salads. For dessert, you can't go wrong with an oreo milkshake. It usually has real whip cream on top & large chunks of oreo inside....very good. The Loop is a great place for a casual lunch or dinner.

The Loop is delicious and consistent. I've been there several times, and it's always good. Like others have said: TOMATO BISQUE. Very VERY tasty!!! I also recommend the pizzas (of course), the burgers, and my favorite, the Chicken Caesar Wrap with a cup of soup! Definitely one of the best places in Jacksonville, and in a beautiful location!

The Loop Pizza Grill is one of Jacksonville's signature restaurants - a true staple of the city and its people. A combo that gladly walk hand in hand through the nations largest city [land wise]. This location of The Loop is the original location, the first ever Loop opened in 1981 - and it is amazing. There are not enough amazing words to say about this restaurant. It is so good that this small local pizza place has now spread to two other states and has many many locations. Must haves: the Pepperoni Pizza. It is, to me, the very essence of this restaurant. Also, you must try their French Fries with Ranch Dressing for dipping. And don't forget their Gorganzola Walnut Salad [to die for] with its pairing of rich Gorganzola with sun dried tomatoes, roma tomatoes, walnuts, and mixed greens, topped with their homemade croutons and served with their Balsamic Dressing. Funny story about the Balsamic Dressing... my boyfriend in high school worked at The Loop his senior year. That summer, we were at camp in North Carolina and he came to the dinner table [it was a buffet] with his salad and a cup of brown sauce. I asked him what it was and he said it was Balsamic Dressing. Was he ever surprised to discover it was actually Chocolate Pudding. It was to his sad misfortune that the Balsamic Dressing at The Loop is so thick and delicious one just might mistake chocolate pudding for the creamy, vinegary concoction. PS Don't miss their milk shakes!! They are... worth it. Every single, last, delicious little drop of it. Don't think about the calories! Eat every bite! You won't be sad.

I got a burger here and it was great except for the fact that it wasn't the temperature I ordered. There needs to be a way to eat a burger without dripping the juices all over the plate. It gets all the fries soggy, and The Loop's fries are phenomenal. They're steak fries! Perfect for dipping in ketchup! I hear the shakes are amazing, and I can't wait to try one. MMMM!!!!

The Loop is good if you like a decent burger and a serious milkshake. Staff was friendly and the restrooms were clean. They have pizza. They could almost pass for a American bistro. Only one of those damn TVs in the place, wish they would shut it off. You order at the counter, pay, they page you with one of those light-up flashing gadgets, and you pick-up at the counter. We left something for the bus-guy (he was older then 10 bus-boys added together). The San Marco area is attempting to be hip and boutique, but it ain't gonna happen. You're in J-ville for crying out loud.

Best ever! I grew up with this place, always coming here with friends and family and it's never failed to disappoint. Their Oreo shakes are DELICIOUS and their burgers are phenomenal! I personally love their crispy chicken salad, I always eat every last bite! My mouth is literally watering right now just thinking about how good their food is. Prices are also low. Whenever I go there with my mom, she always gets a cheeseburger and myself a salad and total I think it costs about $20. Good food for a good price! Doesn't get much better!

THE BEST BURGER IN JAX!!!! I have eaten hamburgers all over the world and with the exception of a handburger (that is what I called them when I was 7) that my neighbor would make, "The Loop's" hamburgers are the best. One of the wonderful things about their hamburgers is you can get them any way you want. If you want it rare, they will cook it rare!!! No Food Police here!!! The fries are awesome! Even the ice for the drinks is superior! I LOVE THIS PLACE PS Try their Shakes!

I always get the Loop Salad on Focaccia. Its amazingly filling and you don't feel like a lardo afterwards. There is something about the dressings that are really tasty! If you are feeling particularly bold...the burger, onion rings and milkshakes are delicious! The service is what you'd expect...not that great, but the food and value rocks, so what the hey.

Whenever my kids say that the pizza is good, I'm sold. To me the pizza was pretty good. I've certainly had better, and worst..I am pretty critical when it comes to pizza since I'm from NY, but it was good.

My big sis was in the mood for a good burger so we hit up the Loop before heading out of town on Sunday afternoon. It had been a while since either of us had visited this local Freakville favorite and we are glad we did. I don't know if it was a combination of us being hungry and having great memories from this place but the food was outstanding. She had the bacon cheeseburger and said it was one of the best burgers she has had in a long while. The fries were crispy and tasty too. I had the Gorgonzola Walnut salad which was delicious. I am not sure what kind of dressing it was but it was superb. I also had to have an Oreo Milkshake because even though it does match well with a salad lets face it, they do have the best shakes in town. Again I was not disappointed as the milkshake was out of this world. Service at the counter was top notch and the location was very clean. If your looking a for great casual local food establishment you cant go wrong with the Loop.

Unless either are on the extremes of the scale I rarely, if ever, mention service or price. First, let's talk about the food. I sincerely think that the only menu item that may be homemade are the potato chips. When it comes to everything else it seems as though they just open the box/container, heat/cook, and send. It must be stated that the quality of the pre-made, brought-in stuff was decent; but, brought in none the less. The food alone is worth 2 stars. That having been said, the staff was stellar! Everyone from the manager to the busser was highly conscientious and accommodating. BY virtue of that staff alone, The Loop gets 3 stars and my repeat business, even if the food is...pre-made at the factory.

The Oreo milkshake is the shizzle fo rizzle...I just had one yesterday and came to write about it and lo and behold, I see a review about that very thing. It's thick and delicious and all the things that milkshakes are supposed to be. I honestly think it's pretty hard to mess up a milkshake if you have milk, ice cream and a blender. I've tried the sausage and goat pizza. My co-workers raved and hollered about how good it was so we got one. It was pretty good, but perhaps because it wasn't super "out the oven" fresh, I was not so impressed. I think I actually preferred the Mellow Mushroom. But I realize the Loop was not given an absolutely fair chance so I will have to try it again. Especially the bisque it seems. They have several Jax locations, the newest is in the Bartram Park area. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table.

Despite this being my 12th year in Jacksonville, tonight was my first time dining at The Loop. Shocking, I know. I had often heard talk of The Loop's delicious burgers, pizza, and milkshakes but had simply never had the opportunity or taken the initiative to go there. Anyway, I had a medium-cooked burger with Swiss cheese and dressings and steak fries. I was not disappointed; the burger was one of the best that I've tasted in a while, especially for so inexpensive a price. Definitely a $9.61 well spent.

I'm not in love with this place but when your movie at the San Marco doesn't start for another 2 hours, and you're thirsty from a stroll around the square or triangle as it may be, it's a good place to grab a nice cold New Castle. We knew we'd be having little gourmet pizzas in the theatre and didn't want to fill up, so we just drank. I have to admit succumbing to the blue cheese covered potato chips though. They sure are good with beer. Hiccup!!!

Mrs. H hit the nail on the head. The Loop is great! The Tomato Bisque is amazing. I love their burgers and onion rings too. Plus their milkshakes. Pretty much-I love everything on their menu. This is a quick service restaurant, meaning you order your food at the counter and they give you a buzzer to alert you when it is ready. I've been to almost every location in town and they are all great. Aside from San Marco, there is one in Avondale on St. Johns Ave., the Southside on Southside and Baymeadows, and in OP on Wells Rd. I know there are more but I can't remember!

The Loop gets five stars for one menu item alone, and that is the Oreo Milkshake. If there is one dairy-oriented beverage that could possibly be the symbol for growing up in the suburban sprawl of Jacksonville, it is this very beverage. If you get it to go, they will even still throw an Oreo cookie in the top of the Styrofoam cup, and smoosh the lid down over it, making it impossible to get any milkshake through the straw. But this is okay, because that's what you have to deal with when you get an Oreo milkshake to go from The Loop.

I've been to Jacksonville here and there a few times and with different people and each time I've gone to the Loop in San Marco. This place is great. It's a family owned and operated chain, though it still retains a restaurant quality. You must, must order the tomato bisque. It's so good, you'll want to drink it. The salads are huge. I've had the Gorgonzola Walnut, pretty good. Their main fare though is pizza, and they make those well. I like their Spicy BBQ chicken, though their Sausage and Goat Cheese was pretty darn good, too. Worth trying for sure. Remember to get the tomato bisque. Get the tomato bisque.

I love this location. Nice and cozy, a nice simple setup. I love this whole San Marco area. The customer service here is always a good thing. I mostly get take-out. I either call or walk-in. When I do walk in, the order is done in a timely manner. Like most Loop restaurants they give you a buzzer to let you know that your order is ready.I just really like polite people and this place has a whole bunch of them. The burgers are really good. Underrated I believe. The blue cheese chips are always a must when I go. Always great flavor and never too much blue cheese.Mostly I stick with the burgers, they never let me down. As long as they keep doing what they are doing, I will always be a fan.

I know people love it here, but I really think it tends to be overrated. But let me clarify... back when I was in high school and didn't care about my diet, I loved this place. Their pizzas (especially the bbq chicken), their chicken tenders, and tomato soup are all delicious. Actually, all of their pizzas are very good (we commonly order 4-5 for the office when the bosses are buying lunch). Really cooked well with innovative ingredient combinations. Now, I'd like to visit the Loop for work lunches, but I usually try to keep those pretty healthy/inexpensive. The salads here are a crock. Overpriced and generally jut unimpressive. Same with their salad dressings. I think they used to have real grilled chicken on their salads, but the last time I got it on my salad, it was like publix deli shaved chicken breast. My advice is if you are going here to splurge on the cals and the $$, the Loops a great option. If you are hoping for something healthier, don't waste your time here.

We went to The Loop for lunch. Best known for its great pizza, we opted for something different and selected their Crispy Chicken salad and the Cajun and Jack burger. The burgers come with their homemade chips but you can substitute french fries or broccoli. You can also substitute fried onion rings for an additional charge which one of us did. You put in your order at the counter and get an electronic buzzer for notification when your order is ready. You get glasses that you fill at the dispensor in an alcove along with napkins and condiments. The drink choices include the usual cola, sprite and lemonade both regular and diet. Your order is individually prepared, no precooking. It is not fast food, but the wait is reasonable and you can start on your drink. We arrived just after 1 P.M. and the parking in front was filled. But not to worry, there were more spaces on the side and a strip mall lot is just across the street. There was a good crowd present when we arrived and a steady stream continued during our entire stay. Our electron notification device buzzed and we picked up our order. The portions are large, both the salads and the burger. The burger was on a large bun with sliced onions, tomatoes contained a plentiful helping of jack cheese with Cajun seasoning. The meat was hot, juicy and delicious. The salads were filled with tomatoes, onions, cheddar and plenty of chicken. All of the food was delicious and filling. The portions were large, but no one felt stuffed, but rather well fed. The noise level was low and tables as well as booths are available. Discounts are available on Tuesday and Thursday for seniors, plus anyone can join their E-club for news and discounts. Great taste, good selection and easy to get to, a perfect combo!
