Healthy Meal suggestions for Outback Steakhouse

I generally try not to frequent "chain" restaurants. This Outback happens to be right next door to Anatolis Mediterranean restaurant....which I like a lot. My wife and I took advantage of Outbacks 4 course meal for $15 per person. I started with the onion soup and Cesar salad. Both were big portions and very flavorful. The salad was exceptionally good. They also serve hot loafs of their famous brown bread. For my entree I had the 6oz sirloin with a loaded baked potato. The steak was cooked PERFECT! very tasty. You have the option of upsizing the steak to a 9oz for $3 more. But with all the food...it wasn't really necessary. For dessert you have the choice of cheesecake with raspberry sauce, or the carrot cake. My wife and I had on of each to share.... And they were both very good. I was surprised by a very satisfying meal for only $15 bucks! Service was food, and we were seated on a Friday night rather quickly even though they were pretty busy.

They need to hire new chefs who know how to cook a decent prime rib. Had to send it back twice to get it right. Ended up ordering something else. Waiter was amazing. The food was so so. Don't think we will be back. Management was lacking in social people skills. Mandarin needs some decent places to eat. Outback use to be the place to be but really has something lacking about everything. Def nothing to write home about.

Called ahead, wait was 15 minutes. Our server Alexander was excellent, once seated everything went smoothly. Thanks Alexander! We started with the crab and avocado stack appetizer. If you like crab and avocado, then this is a must! We both had the chopped salad, wife had the Victoria filet and shrimp special (all you can eat shrimp. They were more crispy than shrimp. The steaks were excellent. We'll be going back!

Outback has seen the last of us. A couple of months ago went there for lunch and my husband bit into his burger and hit a piece of metal that turned out to be part of the tool they use to flip burgers. Server and manager apologetic and our meals were comped. Decided to give them another try tonight. Husband ordered a salad. It came with wrong dressing. Sent it back. Over 10 minutes went by before server checked on us. Told her to forget about salad. She did remove from check and brought one anyway. My steak was medium well instead of the medium I requested and my steamed broccoli was way past steamed. I also had to ask another server to find our server for a soda refill. Dinner was frustrating instead of relaxing. Going to spend our dining out dollars somewhere else.

I live just a few minutes from this Outback, and we eat or pick up from it all the time! The service is always good, and the food is even better! If you're going to eat here, try and call ahead, because if you go on a busy night, your wait will be over an hour. I rarely have problems with my food, but the one time my mom complained online, the manager contacted her, was very nice, and mailed us a gift certificate with an enclosed handwritten note. Portions are generous, and their cheese fries are the best I've ever had! I would recommend Outback to anyone!!!

They have a great Happy Hour! $4 drinks and $4 select appetizers, in the bar area only. It does get kind of crowded so be aware. While Outback is a widely known chain restaurant, I will say that I enjoy their food and drinks more than I do the typical food chain place. On this night I started with an Absolut vodka dirty martini ($4.75) and split 2 apps with my friend, the coconut shrimp and the crab stuffed mushrooms. Both apps were delicious (and again only $4 each). I also had a 20oz Oktoberfest ($4) and some blackberry lemonade mixed drink (again $4). See great options for drinks and food for a really good HH price!

Ordered Prime Rib, it was under cooked , and a little tough . Please sharpen your steak knives , you couldn't even cut melted butter with these knives. I tried 3 different steak knives and every one of them were dull .

Pete is an awesome server. He knew the menu Luke the back of his hand. We seated right away. It was a busy night so we waited a little longer but it was well worth the wait. John had Mauhi salad with coconut shrimp and Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Josh had a Steak with vegetables and I had naked wings. She I tell you that the food was delicious and the drinks were straight. I tasted the Mango Rita and I give it 5 stars. The atmosphere was nice. The paintings made you feel like you were really in the Outback. Well worth 5 stars tonight. It was a Great Meal before a Great Comedy Show with D.L. Hughley

This location is a home run every time. Great service, great food and a great atmosphere. It can get busy here, but I don't mind because we get taken care of so there is value to it. I've never had an item cooked incorrectly or had an issue with a drink refill or slow service not getting things. Plus the best part is that management comedy to say hello and insure you are happy and they really seem to care. This location and the one on 3rd st. at the beach are the only ones I go to as the one on 295 and Baymeadows has nothing but problems every time I go.

This Outback always performs. The steaks are awesome and I tried the new broccoli and cheese. I always get the porterhouse cooked medium. I do miss the romalude sauce they used to make. It was great. The wife had the steak tacos they looked good. The staff is always nice at this location. This is the best Outback location in Jax. I do not like any other locations. I always get bad food and service at different locations. I recommend this outback. I take back what I said about service it is usually really good. Tonight out server was off par. He didn't even know my wife sent back the steak tacos because she didn't like them. We swapped them for chicken tacos. Taking a star back for service tonight. Usually great, people have off days so not too upset.

Prime rib was amazing... Best outback in Jacksonville. Really should suggest megan Szfranski as your server. I've had her every time and it's possibly some of the best service around jax.

I have always been a fan of Outback. Of all of the chain restaurants, they have remained one of my top favorites and continued to be consistent. This Outback is located off of San Jose Blvd and sit directly in front of San Jose and beside a tiny little pond. Every time we come we always see the ducks walking around the parking lot which I think is adorable and the kids in the parking lot always seem to enjoy walking them as well. This location has indoor and outdoor seating, the outdoor seating has a thin fenced wrapped almost all of the way around. Inside they're are booth style seats that you can sit and wait if they have a reservation list going. They have a bar with bar top seating to the immediate right (this is also where the bathrooms are located). The restaurant has booths and tables. We typically get sat in a booth. The hostess sits you at your seat with the restaurant menu as well as appetizer, entrée and dessert specials. The table usually has a list of the drinks as well. I always get the Outback Sirloin Special which up until recently was $9.99, this including a 6 oz. Sirloin cooked to your liking, and two sides. I love the loaded baked potatoes (cheese, bacon, sour cream and butter) and their house salad with Ranch dressing. The dressing is made in house and it has remained the same over the years (delicious) their croutons are also very good :) Before each other a small loaf of bread with bread is brought to the table. The bread has also remained the same except I believe it has shrunk over the years.. haha. I have not ever tried any of their alcoholic beverages but their martini's look incredible! The cocktails all seem to be little works of art, with adorned rims and colorful insides. The service is typically consistent, nice and informative but maybe a little busy. That is ok though because their is usually a lot of talk amongst my table.

I came here the other night to get a steak, I find the quality of the food and the value to be extremely welcoming. Whatever, I also see the portions shrinking ever so much. One of my favorite things that's not on the menu, are they deep fried mushrooms, I could eat a whole order myself. However, the last time I was here, I noticed there now slicing the mushrooms, and now the portions of truck even more. Sadly, I think I might have to start ordering something else. Never really was a fan of the bloomin onion, maybe I should give it a try now.

I was part of a party of 15 girls and we had one server who had no problem accommodating all of our needs. I ordered the peppered seared ahi tuna and it was really good, much better than I expected from a steakhouse. I had double Ketel One and waters coming from the bar that were perfect and all in all, the experience was great and I'll be back.

This Outback is one of my go to spots for a few reasons. The food is always good, the prices are reasonable, and they have great HH specials in the bar area until 7. If you are going during HH finding a seat in the bar area is tough so you usually have to get there pretty early. Overall a great place to go and grab dinner if you're in the neighborhood!

Dang, it's been awhile since I've eaten at an Outback and the menu has really changed. It's kind of starting to look like a TGI Fridays. Anyway, way back in the (college) days, I used to wait tables at an Outback, AND I still ate there... which should tell you something. Yesterday, we were looking for a chain to take the in-laws out to dinner, that wouldn't be out of their comfort zone, so we ended up here. I was excited to order the prime rib... it was only 5:30 so I knew they should have a nice few medium rare cuts. So we ordered the new calamari to start. (Light and buttery, could have used a bit more seasoning, but it wasn't over cooked.) Adam's french onion soup was really, really good and my side salad with tangy tomato (the best dressing here) was great. But so sad: the prime rib came out medium well. I didn't really want to rock the boat, (one too many special requests already) so I just went with it. The grilled asparagus (a new side) was a nice treat. Eh, it's ok. Still really dig that bloomin' onion sauce.

Of all the Chains they have stayed the most consistent! Food portions always good, the added wood grilled option is a favorite of mine with the Ribeye!!! The Salmon is always my favorite of the fish dishes . Try the Broccoli with the cheese sauce as a side !!!

It started as a 0. And we arrived early to miss the busy crowd. It took 7.5 minutes before anyone came to our table and that was simply because my husband went to advise them of how long weve been waiting just to get a drink order in. Apparently there was a mix up of who was to service our table. Our waitress did make up for it. She was prompt and and on the ball with our orders. But the food itself brought the points back down. My chicken was drier than a desert. Needless to say, itll be a while before we return.

Came in with the whole family at around 730 on a Wed night. It was my husbands birthday and this is where he wanted to go. My aunt got there first and they quoted her an hour long wait. Turned out it was more like half hour so yay there. We got seated and our server introduced herself to us and she seemed very friendly and was very accommodating. She took our orders and everyone's order came out right. So I have no complaints about service. Even on my brothers to go order she got us extra bread and everything. Now the food. Everyone decided to go with the no worries wed special which is a very convincing deal. Everyone stayed their steaks were cooked to order except mine and my moms. We had ordered them medium an we got more or a medium on the bottom of the steak and a charred burnt well done on the other. I think if we ha asked for it to be redone it would have been but we were too hungry for that. I also have to note that their baked potatoe soup was sooo salty!!! I felt like my blood pressure would shoot up from one spoonful. I had to send it back and I requested the French onion. I Tasted my husbands which was really good but I was sad see that they couldn't get me my soup out before all the food came. But again for the 12 of us and only my food to be the most messed up, it was pretty good. And only 1 out of the 3 blooming onions was on the darker side. Overall my whole family enjoyed themselves and we all left happy. The food was tasty and the service was great. If they could get the food perfect they would get a whole fourth star but for now they get a mental 3.5 and a yelp 3. Happy eating!

Love this restaurant. It's one of the only ones where I see all the staff helping one another. I actually see other wait staff ask tables they are not responsible for if they need anything in passing. It's awesome. I usually get the steak and lobster and I love it. I've only had one issue where my steal was a bit to chewy but they fixed it and it was great. It just feels like they are here to make the experience fun and not rush rush. I'd recommend this Outback to anyone in the area for the great staff and food. I've been to a couple of other Outback when I travel and have not had the same experience or food. In fact the Kansas Outback which I thought would be awesome had the smallest portions of steak I have ever seen and it's the steak state!

Waitress wasn't that great, after the food go to the table, it took 10 mins to find her so everyone could get silverware to eat! Caesar dressing for my ceasar salad is very fishy, and has a spicey flavor, would not get it again! But as always the blooming onion & bread were simply Amazing!

I came here and it was horrible. Me and my wife had to send back two separate items. The blooming onion tasted like a burnt French fry and the porterhouse I paid $26 for was cold, dry and they own seer it and barely did that. Ask for it fired if you get one. But I wouldn't recommend getting one. I would recommend coming here. Bad food and slo service.

Outback, what happened?! We went here tonight specifically because I was having a craving for a Bloomin Oinion. While that was the same deliciousness as always, it was downhill from there. First our salads were so sad and tiny! The shallow bowls resembled teacup saucers. It was only lettuce, cheese and a few grape tomatos chopped in half. When we inquired about the usual red onions and cucumbers, our waiter looked surprised and said they should have been included. He brought a few by for the last bites of our salads. At that point I had decided to switch from sweet tea to water and let him know. He came back over and filled my glass with water. The same glass that I was dinking the sweet tea out of. Who does that? Our steaks came and my husband's was way too bloody for medium rare and he sent it back. The new steak looked better but was a little tough on the outside. I was really sorry to see the green beans had been taken off the menu. They had great beans! They have been replaced by a "seasonal vegetable medley" that consisted of steamed carrots, snow peas and a giant hunk of broccoli with absolutely no seasoning or sauce on them whatsoever. Just plain steamed bland veggies. I tried something new with my steak- the crab topped sirloin. I don't recommend it. My steak was good, but the crab topping was like salty crab mush. And the cherry on top- when we asked for to-go containers, all they had was the little 4x4 size. So I tried to cram a baked potato and good hunk of steak in there and had to ask for an extra thing for the bread. Outback had been slowly going downhill, most noticably in the house salad department, and I think they finally lost me as a customer tonight. There are still some tasty looking things on the menu, but I mostly went there for reliable old favorites.

Seems they are starting to "cheap out." One order of bread with no offer to bring another. Loaded baked potato was anything but loaded. Would not have been so bad but no extra butter to help it along. Potato had been in the cooker a long time since once you got past the "loaded " part it was very dry. Steaks remain good but I wonder if they are starting to cut corners what's next?

Came here for lunch and was unpleasantly surprised at the minuscule portions. I ordered a steak salad, and 15 minutes later I was given what I would call a side salad with 4 small pieces of steak with wilted and warm lettuce? Really?? For 12.00.. I would never order again, at Longhorns their steak salad is much better..I would not recommend.

  • Lara M.

As it stands we have been waiting here for an hour. We're listening to the hostess tell the people, who're just now walking in, that the wait is 15-20 minutes. Last time we came they messed up a steak order. Is steak not what this company prides themselves on?? This will be my last visit to this inept establishment.

I treat my mom to lunch here about once a week because the staff is amazing! We love to sit at amd have our favorite bar tender/server, Lauren. She stays busy but she makes sure everyone is well taken care of. On the few occasions there have been mishaps with our food, the kitchen manager herself comes out to talk to us amd delivers our food amd comes back to check on the redo. She's sweet, genuine, and really cares about sending put delicious dishes. My go-to place for a great bite.

We have eaten dinner at Outback for years but decided to take a family member for lunch this weekend. Food taste was consistent but lunch portion size was way too small. The salads were $10 and were smaller than most side salads at other restaurants. Would highly recommend staying away from the lunch portions and paying the difference for dinner portions. I would have rated them only two or three stars however our waitress and the store manager were excellent. They brought out an additional salad and an entrée on the house. Hopefully outback corporate will wake up and realize the lunch portion salads have to go.

We usually enjoy Outback, but the food and service were not up to par on our recent visit. The waiter we had was very slow in bringing out things that we asked for, such as additional condiments and at one point we finally asked a different waiter walking by. The appetizer took almost as long as our food to come to the table. Once we did get the food, it was all cooked more than what we had ordered. Ribeye ordered medium rare was medium and dry. Unfortunately will probably not be back.

Went here for my birthday, delicious as always! Our bloomin onion came out a little burnt (according to our waitress). We were promised another one but were given the original to snack on. No one had a problem with the way it was cooked. It was eaten and then a second was brought out! Never a complaint after a dinner at outback!

My parents really wanted to visit Outback for their 65th wedding anniversary. Carolyn and team did a fantastic job making sure my parents felt special on their special night!!! The service was superb, and they even gave special assistance with the meal to accommodate my parents' challenging health conditions. From the champagne toast to the blooming onion to the steaks and service, their experience was top notch. Many many thanks for your generosity and kindness in making a magical experience for my folks!!! Excellent, superb, amazing food and service!!! Greatly appreciated.

It wasn't totally bad. The cactus bloom was great. But the salad....not the best. Soggy croutons. After asking them to make another one it was alright. But do you really want a second time restaurant? I mean I want to eat at a place that cooks great food all the time. Not an occasional good time. I will not be coming back anytime soon.

Aweful!! I had the tilapia with lump crab. I couldn't even eat it! The tapia was tasteless and mushy, the 'crab' was cold, creamy, and had a consistency of wet bread! Horrible!

  • Zach M.

Takeout buyer beware: the portions are tiny compared to eating in house. 4inch salmon for more than 10 bucks. I feel like they think they can get away with this because they are an institution. But that ain't right!

Was there 1/2/12, server(Courtney)was either new or simply overwhelmed. My drinks sat on the bar for at least fifteen minutes before going and getting then myself. Never was apologized for it either.. Then they gave us our salad and steak simultaneously.... Steak was great, service sucked!

My family loves to eat out and try new restaurants as well as chains. We were a bit skeptical about this location due to the rating of only 3 stars. However, we quickly found out that our experience was definitely 5 stars. We did "Get on the Wait List" online and arrived on a very busy Saturday night and only waited 10 minutes for our table. We were quickly greeted by our server, Ammar, after being seated and ordered our beverages. Cheese Fries are a must for an appetizer!!! Ammar checked with us a short time later when he didn't see our appetizer - he promptly went to the kitchen and returned to say they were completing them and they would be arriving shortly. It wasn't a long wait either. He waited to place our meal order until we were almost done with our appetizer so that we wouldn't be rushed. My salad arrived with onions and as I'm picking them off, he immediately came by to check and see if he had made a mistake. WOW! Totally not his fault, I forgot to order without them - no big deal, but he cared enough to stop and ask!!! Our dinner arrived and it was fantastic. I ordered an Outback Burger that was cooked perfectly and tasted a lot like the "old" Fuddrucker's burgers (they are not good at all anymore). Food was great - Service was Outstanding - very impressed for a busy Saturday night. Will definitely go back!!!

I will always love Outback! For a chain restaurant, the steaks are delicious. I appreciate that they serve 6 oz, too, as a large slab of red meat is way too filling for me. I had the Outback Special (6 oz, cooked medium) & it was perfect with a slightly red center & lots of juice. I had a loaded baked potato, and the kosher-salted skin is my favorite part! The side salad with house dressing is always a good choice with the pumpernickle bread. Outback is a staple restaurant for me, as the food & service is consistently excellent

This place is terrible and has lost its appeal with me. Bloomin onion was too greasy, wings undercooked, and waitress didnt look like she wanted to be there. One positive was that my steak was delicious, but my friend who was visiting from out of town , his steak was overcooked!! I was embarassed that i suggested outback....never AGAIN! Last experience was average, but i gave benefit of doubt and got burned!!!

Food was so so, service was better. The blooming onion was either burnt or cooked in old oil

Had a great time with the kids. Our server was attentive and knew how to serve a table with two six year olds. Drinks were never empty. Food was delivered in a timely manner. Special attention was paid to the children (she brought them out extra fruit for their side). We were not overly pleased with the quality of the Bloomin' Onion and it was taken off our tab without us even asking. We have generally always come to this location and will continue to do so after tonight's experience.

It's too bad that Mandarin doesn't have many good restaurants. Outback used to be a good spot if you had a hankering for a steak and a fun atmosphere. There used to be an hour plus wait on the weekends. This place has really gone downhill. The past few times I've been there, I was highly disappointed. When I got a steak, it was overdone and not as tasty as it once was. The plates are so bare. They throw the steak and baked potato on there and that's it. I used to not mind (and for some reason I didn't even notice) because the food was so good. Most recently I tried grilled scallops from their grillers menu. They too were overdone, as were the side of grilled vegetables. They were charred on the outside and undercooked on the inside. Seems like the heat was too high on that fire. The waitress blamed the quality on the fact that it was towards the end of the night and the guy at the grill tends to not do things as well towards the end of his shift. She had an "oh, well" attitude and handed us the bill. In the end, it's just not worth it for the price of the food. Step it up, Outback!
