Been wanting to try this place for a while since we noticed its beside our fave pizza joint so we finally did one Friday night. Typical hibachi joint with separate seating for the grill, sushi bar and regular dining. Not extremely busy for 7pm on a Friday. We were seated instantly at a large grill table and had drinks within five minutes...big plus. Not so enjoyable behind us was a huge table of 12-13 and a quite rowdy chef. I mean these guys are famous for putting up a little flair and the occasional ooh and ahh nut this guy bordered on rude and obnoxious. Not to mention unprofessional, asking the table to do sake bombs with him, very loudly. It's like being in college all over again minus the fun part. Apart from the distracting background noise. Our server was polite, and averagely attentive. Our chef was polite and friendly, but way undercooked my steak. It was medium rare when I asked for med well. I'm super picky about my meat simply because I get very ill when fed undercooked meat. The fried rice was chock full of onions but had ok flavor , still too many onions. My dinner date is a bit of a sushi aficionado and has tried it all over the US, and sad to say wasn't fond of this. He swore that at some point the salmon had been frozen since the oils in it had a funny taste. Long story short, I didn't hate the place, I was offput by the boisterous and borderline belligerent chef, and would only come back if someone REALLY begged me to. I've had far better food and environments although the service was up to par.

Wasabi's at Town Center was slammed for Mother's Day but this place had a hibachi table for us when we wanted it. Food and atmosphere very good. Chef was great as we'll. would recommend.

We had such a great time! Food was delicious and the hibachi chef was so much fun. Don't miss out!

This place was great!!! Great food, service, and the chef was awesome the only negative I would say is the people we were sitting with they were more concerned with there cell phone then the art that was right in front of them and they wouldn't stop talking during the show.

The AMS and New Orleans rolls were pretty good, as was the gyoza. The rest of our rolls (shrimp asparagus, Jax, and Florida spring) were... eh. This place appeared to be the prime hotspot for young, urban couples. And, apparently, there's a rule that if you are the male half of a young, urban couple, you need to be sporting muttonchops.

Great food and reasonable prices. I went there for lunch and they are quick with the food and the quality is great. Good place to eat!!

Otaki is consistently the best sushi in town. Promo rolls, Dragon Rolls, Spicy Tuna can;t be beat. The Duetche bank roll is pretty special too.

My favorite local Japanese steakhouse and sushi. Great hibachi meals AND sushi. If not in the mood for either, try the hot wings. Great service as well.

Best priced Japanses Steakhouse in JAX. A lot of steakhouse feel like a rip off after the cooking show. Otaki's chefs are funny and keep you entertained. Did I mention 1.00 Miller Light draft all day!

Love to come here & get side items like filet & veggies. Then you don't have to order a big meal. - The Georgia Woo Woo drink is yummy too.

There were 11 of us. So many diff good options were preferred by all but where does one go post Christmas days together as family? I took to Yelp and found this joint. It was a drive but the ratings promised everyone would leave satisfied. We had chicken, shrimp, scallops, sushi, sake, salmon and the likes. Our chef was entertaining and kept the two nieces busy so the adults could have some time themselves. I would go here again without hesitation and look forward to trying more of the sushi. Go try it, you won't regret it.

Favorite sushi place in town! Also has hibachi tables and a large menu with apps and desserts. Sushi is definitely their specialty and they always have drink specials and the game on in the small bar area. They have a variety of yummy rolls and will let you customize to fit your special tastes. My husband always orders the chirashi sushi bowl with all types of goodness that the chef picks out daily, comes with rice and will fill you up! You cannot go wrong with Otaki sushi!

Finally a restaurant that is worth a 5 star rating, (my thoughts on how I rate a restaurant, if they can't cook as good or preferably better than me why.should I pay them to.do so) the service was great and the food was fantastic and the table side chef was even better, he was very talented and friendly, if anything I.could comment on is maybe a little pricey but the amount of food we received more than made up for the prices, the sushi bar had a small odor around it but that was the only comment I could make. We will definitely be coming back here again and would recommend this to anyone.

Me and the Hubby had the Filets and our friends had the fish of the day "Salmon" , the dinner for two. All of it was great! This is one of the few habachi places that serve noodles in Jax. I got to have my noodles! The dinners came with salad and clear soup, noodles, fried rice, and vegis. The Dragon roll was excellent! The drinks were kept full and the dishes cleared. Tommy was great!! Lot of fun, with good jokes!! Great for Bdays!! We always pick someone out in our group and tell them it is their Bday even if it isn't so they embarrass them!! All in all it was good fun and great food!!!

We had hibachi here, and while it wasn't the worst we've ever had, it certainly wasn't the best. The menu had all the standard Japanese steakhouse fare. We started out with a plate of vegetable tempura-everything was a little overcooked and soft. We both had filet, which was flavorful, tender, and cooked to our liking. We also had shrimp and scallops. The shrimp were a little overcooked and tough, and the scallops were a little rubbery. Service was friendly and prompt, however. For some reason, none of the Japanese restaurants we've eaten at in Jax have the mustard type sauce we're used to in NC, and we miss it-any insight?

They have great hibachi and cheap beer! They do happy hour specials and have great speciality rolls.

We decided to try Otaki because we were looking for a new Japanese steakhouse as the ones in the area are not very good. After reading the reviews, we were excited to try it. On a Saturday night it was almost empty, so I was a little nervous, but very pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent; we were waited on quickly and everything was excellent all night. Our chef was super fun and cooked everything correctly. There were 6 people in our party and everyone was happy with all aspects of our meal. We all got combination hibachi dinners. The reason for their lack of business is definitely location. They are competing with the town center and do not get much dry by traffic, but it is worth the trip! Try it out :)

We LOVE Otaki. The owners are fantastic. The staff is amazing (David @ the bar is awesome. Liz is the best server ever and Charlie is an amazing cook). If you don't eat here and like it, there is something wrong with you.

Honestly, Otaki was probably my most awkward experience with Japanese cuisine. Ordering sushi is not advised. The hibachi is okay. There's a lot of performance involved, but I noticed that some of the chefs seemed kind of tired of it. I read one of the reviews here from a guy who was impressed that it was better than McDonald's, and I guess that's true. It seems like the kind of place where you're either going to get great service or.. not.

Best sushi in Jacksonville! People had told me this before and I wasn't sure but after trying it, it is definitely the best. They have the FRESHEST sushi around. Everything is delicious. They have a wide variety of rolls. You can also create your own if you want. Owner came by a few times to check on us. Everyone loved what they had. Amazing spot for sushi. Will be back!

Loved it. Took my family there for my birthday. We sat at the Hibachi grill and everyone' food was great. My scallops were perfectly cooked and my husband's steak was not over done. Kids even ate their chicken. The kids and I had sushi appetizers and it was very fresh with big pieces of fish. Definitely going back their. Only reason not 5 stars was that my lobster tail was a little over cooked.

The sushi was very tasty and reasonably priced. The sashimi was fresh and delicious with good portions. The rolls were large and after the sashimi, my bf and I couldn't finish 3 rolls together. The service was especially attentive and friendly. I will be back when I'm in JAX again:-)

This was hands down the worst hibachi food I have ever had. My hubby and I went here last night because we had a Teal Deal, and the reviews looked pretty decent. We ordered the Spicy Scallop Dynamite Roll and the hibachi dinner for two. The dinner for two includes a chicken tempura appetizer, you each get soup and salad and shrimp, scallops, lobster and filet mignon, all for $54. Sounds like a great deal...but it was 95% inedible. The Chicken "tempura" App was not coated in tempura batter, but rather a panko crust. This was really a non issue, but just not as advertised. The Spicy Scallop Dynamite roll was good, but we struggled to find much of any scallop at all (but after we saw the "scallops" go on the hibachi for our meal, we were glad). The soup was good, but the salad was literally swimming in dressing. I mean I had at least 3 inches of soupy dressing in my bowl after I had fished the lettuce out. Ok, still no major issues...the noodles were greasy but had ok flavor. The fried rice was ok, nothing special and had no veggies or egg or any of the normal stuff that fried rice should have. The meats were really the issue, and in my opinion, we were lucky we didn't get sick. The shrimp tasted ok, but were extremely rubbery and overcooked and SO salty that I couldn't eat them. Same with the Lobster. I literally almost spit it out it was so salty. It was as if they were attempting to over season in order to make up for less than fresh ingredients. Unfortunately there was not enough salt in the world to make the rancid tasting filet any better. It tasted literally rotten. Like I said, I'm surprised my husband didn't get sick- he was starving and ate the majority of his food even though he thought it was disgusting. I completely stopped eating after one bite of steak. Also, a major issue for me was the "scallops" I put this in quotation because they were NOT scallops. I could tell because they were all exactly the same size, shape and thickness- they didn't vary in size or shape at all- way too uniform to be real scallops. That, paired with the fact that they looked like McDonalds chicken nuggets when I sliced one in half. They were circular scallop shaped pieces of what appeared to be minced up mystery fish. Needless to say, we couldn't get the bill fast enough, and even with our $20 coupon the bill was still over $50, not including tip. WAY to much for easily one of the worst meals I have had in a long time, possibly ever. You couldn't pay me to go back to this place- I can't believe all the good reviews it gets...

While many of the Japanese steakhouses with large hot steel cooking arrangements have pretty much the same routine in cooking, Otaki stood out with an amazing sushi bar in support of the dining room and bar. Had I gone just to the sushi bar, Otaki would merit 5 stars for a beautiful and tasteful performance that would make any hard core sushi person just melt like butter..on a steel plate. In looking for someplace different, I chose this Japanese style restaurant as a good run up to a night at the Comedy Club of Jacksonville. I was very surprised to find this venue empty at 6pm on a Saturday as we were graciously welcomed into the serene dining area to the left of the entrance. Steel plate counters abounded with empty chairs and I grew worried I had made mistake. Sitting with us in anticipation was a younger couple with their young child in tow who had seeming graduated to going out with Mommy and Daddy with good behavior expected (my thanks to the Japanese spirits in the place..)! As the chef rolled up with his cart, the show went through its paces complete with fire from splattered oil and the balancing egg tricks. Somehow we got served in the process a good quality line of beef that was not overly salted or marinated in Teriaki sauce, which I dislike. My side dishes of the fancy Jacksonville roll and the three Salmon/Avocado hand rolls just blew the table away for presentation and the supporting chef seemed off his game for a moment when they showed up. The freshness and vibrant color of the sushi I had before me was almost too good. It was as if I had been transported back to the Kura Barn in New York, which I consider to be the gold standard of traditional Japanese cooking on the eastern side of USA. The taste of the sushi was dead on for some of the best I have tasted in a long time and I am looking forward to returning for a sushi-only performance. In furtherance of my gleaming review of the sushi chef's prowess on the plate with a 440-Carbon steel knife, I went and introduced myself to the chef to give my praise personally. A simple bow in a humble show of respect was all that was needed. That being known, I would say the Japanese hibachi cooking was above average, but the sushi was stellar in my presence.

Best Sushi in Jacksonville! I recommend the PGA roll!! The food is always fresh prepared perfectly. Great staff too fun and full of life!

Ordered 6 sushi rolls to split among friends. Sushi was fresh but the waitress was not very knowledgable about the rolls. Our sangrias were great, bartender was a girl in her mid 20's and she was very friendly and nice to deal with. A lot of the rolls were fried, and I personally like more fresh options. Good selection though.

Food here is always amazing! Service is great. Recommend the sashimi salad appetizer and for dinner love the shrimp and scallop combo. Of course they have a variety of sushi options. Must try!

I came to Otaki on a Tuesday night and the only other guests was a family of six. I ordered salmon and my fiance, filet mignon. Our chef was a cool guy but he could have been a little bit more social and entertaining. It was a slow Tuesday night and he was surrounded by young children so I can understand. He generously gave us shrimp appetizers even though we didn't order it. Our meal was excellent! The salmon was cooked perfectly and so quickly. Same for the filet mignon, very juicy. The fried rice was just as good. I was going to order sushi to-go afterwards but I was so full and already content with my meal. Overall: A great place for lunch and dinner. I'd definitely come back to try to sushi.

Just got back from dinner and The food was excellent. My husband and I both got steak and shrimp and the shrimp was sooo good. We will definitely be back!

I won't be going back. In addition to mediocre food and service, the owner was extremely unpleasant. With Japanese steakhouses nearly every other mile in Jacksonville, I'll stick to the ones where the food quality matches the prices and the customers are appreciated.

The main reason for my frequent visits was Charlie the sushi chef. Sadly he has moved on and though the other gentlemen there are adequate, they aren't him. Still a good spot and family owned, but no longer my fave in Jax.

Excellent place to eat! Don't let the location or occasional lack of customers fool you! The restaurant was empty save for a family of 3. My boyfriend and I were sat with them for the hibachi. We were there for an early dinner. (530 pm) Our waitress was wonderful. She stayed on top of our drinks and clearing our dishes away. My boyfriend was really thirsty that day and he drank about 6 glasses of water. She was there refilling it as soon it was empty. Our sushi (California roll) and krab stick salad tasted fresh and promptly came before our meal. I normally am not the biggest fan of miso soup, because of the lack luster dish water flavor, but again, their soup tasted super fresh. The hibachi chef was very sweet and did a few food tricks I had never seem before. The food was well seasoned and he wasn't super messy like some hibachi chefs are. The bathroom was clean and so was our table and dishes.

i have wanted to check out this spot for a while, i tried to go on my birthday but it just so happened that they were closed because it was also the superbowl..oh well..i stopped by for dinner with three friends, two of which had just come from a dress up day at a 50s party, so that was fun! we had a great time.. The waitress was really friendly and told us about the happy hour specials they had..two of ordered sushi, i had the samurai roll and a rainbow roll, both were awesome..then the show started! the chef did my fave..the onion stack train lol..i dont know why but i feel like an 8 year old child when i see this! among us we had steak, chicken, shrimp and scallops..all were amazing along with the huge portion of rice and noodles and veggies and the soup and salad starters..we stayed and chatted in the nice clean welcoming atmosphere and noticed also theres a bar area and also you can order non hibachi items and sit at a regular table if that suits you as well.. over all great time and great food..i loved it and i know i will be back

Been to Otaki a few times and walked out pretty satisfied each time. I love yellowtail and their yellowtail roll comes with large chunks of fish and a sprinkle of scallion. Nice clean presentation without any added sauce. With a sip of green tea... yum! We also shared a plate of habachi grill combo and it was pretty tasty. We'll probably be going back soon.
