After reading a ton of five-star reviews and being in the mood for some tacos I headed over to Mr Taco. It's in a tiny strip mall isolated on Bowden Road next to a Little Caesars. It was a Tuesday and the daily special was four tacos and a sofa for $8. I couldn't pass on that! I ordered two asada (steak) and two chorizo (spicy sausage) on flour tortillas with all of the fixings. They gave me complimentary chips and salsa which I saw on the menu for a few dollars more. The tacos were great and I was surprised how much steak were in the tacos. The chorizo was good, just a bit too greasy for my taste. The normal cilantro, onion and cheese were spotted and a nice addition of light sour cream was welcomed. They were very delicious and four was one too many. I would go back to try the other meat types and their fajitas looked amazing. You know it's legit if they sell phone cards in Spanish.

Finally made my way over to this joint! I have no excuse this time since I've now moved to the neighborhood. I ventured over on a Saturday and of course, it was pretty dead. Good for me. I walked in and took a look around and immediately spotted the famous salsa bar. I couldn't wait to see what they had. Decided on getting 3 hard-shell tacos, the molida (ground beef), asada (steak) and the pastor (marinated pork) with everything on it. That's the best way to try something new in my opinion. Also ordered a fountain drink and the total came up to about $9. Not bad. I was given a number and I sat at one of the high-top tables. The cashier came shortly after with some chips and I hit the salsa bar. I got the salsa tomatillo, salsa picante, and pico de gallo. I couldn't go overboard because I wanted to still be able to eat my tacos. Not long after that, the same cashier brought them out. OMG they looked incredible and tasted fantastic. I was a little worried that the 3 wouldn't be enough for me (I hadn't eaten all day) but I was nice and full afterwards. This is my new Mexican spot :)

I was so excited to try this place, as Mexican food is my favorite and I am always looking for a new place to add to my rotation. There were so many good reviews, that I thought it was a sure thing. Unfortunately, I could not have liked it less. First off, the salsa bar was low on all the salsas and completely out of a couple of them. I had to scrape the bottoms for salsa which tasted like ketchup anyway. The chips were over fried and brown. My dish, which I ordered for the avocados came without avocados on it. Upon asking, I was told they were not ripe. So, no salsa bar and no avocado....how is that Mexican food? The restaurant was dirty, the soda was flat and the prices went up a lot from their posted menu. Seriously, nothing positive to say about this experience. I will be sticking to Barberitos and Si Señor for my Mexican fix.

Mr. Taco serves, you guessed it, quality tacos. I tried the Chorizo, Asada and Pastor tacos with corn tortillas and avocado. They were delicious made with juicy flavorful meat and fresh veggies. This is the type of place I would visit on a regular basis if I lived in Jacksonville.

Could have sworn I wrote a review before but oh well here goes. This is my favorite place for fresh tacos in Jax. The 3 taco special for $5.75 is always on point. Plenty of variety in choices & toppings though they didn't have carnitas the last time. :( Every time the food has been fresh & the service has been good. Each order comes with fresh chips & salsa. Often they play Christian music which is a testament to the ownership & they're beliefs. It's out of the way from where I live but worth it when I'm nearer or just gotta have dem tocs. LOL!

I came here with my family for dinner and ordered the 3 tacos for $6.50 I got two carnitas and one Asada on corn tortillas. I added some fresh squeezed lime from there sauce bar and it was yummy! the owner came out and talked to us and asked how our meal was. The family that was working was very polite and personable. It made the experience more personal. They bring your food to the table so you don't have to stand and wait. The service was quick and the food was tasty and juicy.

Excellent hole in the wall Taco spot, need I say more? Okay, I will anyway. I discovered this spot through a fellow Yelper one Saturday picking my son up from a sailing regatta nearby. He swears it is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the City. And while I enjoy the tacos and salsa bar, he cannot get enough of the gut busting stuffed to the gills burritos. Service is friendly and they have several unique Mexican drink offerings, none of which I like, but I have had fun trying them all. Independent, private parking, great food, plentiful portions, lots of options, and no complaints Okay, one minor complaint, they are not open on Sundays for an after church lunch.

The food at Mr. Taco is amazing!! The food is very fresh, and I really enjoyed their salsa.

Mr. Taco has moved two or three doors down in the same shopping plaza. It is much nicer inside and the food is just as great. Can't help but have the carnitas as Mr. Taco has the best in town. Their yellow corn tortillas are out of this world, a little puffy from grilling and slightly crispy, just amazing. Took home a pastor torta, the pastor was crispy and had so much flavor. But, don forget yellow corn tortillas!!

A hidden gem for vegans! Nachos, tacos, and burritos are served with a million veggies that are cooked perfectly. They're family owned and operated which is nice (we try not to support big business) but they are pretty much always BUMPING Christian radio. I think it's hilarious but I could never handle it more than once a month. Salsa bar, fresh food, and quick service for very cheap. If you care, a huge/filling meal here is quick, cheap and gf/sf/vegan so you don't feel like shit later!

I have been listening to my honey talk about Mr. Taco for well over a year now... FINALLY, he takes me!!! He kept warning me that this was nothing fancy, but the food was great. My first impression as I walked in... eh, just another mexican joint that needs a little bit of a touch up. Cleaning wise, that is. He was right, it is not easy on the eye. Kinda looks dingy inside. The Horchata machine was down... darn! I wanted some :( Maybe next time. Service was really sloooowwwwww! He said that they are normally pretty fast, but for some reason that day was not their best. We got there just in time, because the line behind us formed rather quickly and it was pretty long. We both ordered three tacos, I got beef and he got chicken... then we split em. I loved the beef, the chicken was ok. Actually it was a little dry. and we also got some chips and queso. It was alright, nothing to write home about. No heat what so ever. I don't know... maybe he brought me on an off day for them, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. It was okay, but I wouldn't make a trip out of the way to go. To me, it was just A-ok.

I happened to be working on a event nearby and when I needed something quick and cheap, Yelp helped me find this gem. It was almost 2pm on a Friday so the place wasn't crazy busy. I went with 3 chicken tacos (hard shell). The food actually came out more quickly than I expected, which was a plus given I was trying to hurry. The place itself is one of those places where you are afraid to look around too closely for fear of what you might see. I took a seat on the bench against the wall but there was a larger man down the bench and every time he moved I was jostled quite a bit. The food itself was fantastic. Between the chips brought out when I sat down and the tacos, it was plenty of food . The chicken had tons of flavor and the lettuce and tomatoes were really fresh. If you're looking for some really fresh, tasty Mexican food. This is the place to find it.

So I went to highschool in Crescent City... Lots of ferneries = authentic Mexican taco stands/trucks/hole in the wall restaurants everywhere!! I move to Jacksonville for college... Taco Bell everywhere... WTF?!? I drove by Mr.Taco one day and my inner foodie lit up, a bright beacon in my minds eye guided me right in. It reminded me of home! Just a little dingy hole in the wall with amazing, fresh, authentic tacos and a salsa bar! Can't say enough, Mr. Taco has filled the hole in my heart and fulfilled my need for a taste of home! Don't be scared by the exterior, only judge the food. Amazing!

Best Mexican in Jax. Fresh and authentic. Also, they close at 8, not 5. Food trucks open really late. Closed on Sunday.

I really wanted to like this restaurant. It's been a challenge finding closer-to-authentic street style tacos in Jacksonville. On my first visit I was happy to see that they offered soft corn tortillas with yellow OR white corn, although they definitely aren't made in-house. I ordered a chorizo (spiced Mexican sausage with a texture similar to ground beef when cooked), Carne, and Chicken. The Chorizo was a decent brand that didn't seem to just cook down into grease, although they could have definitely cooked it a bit more as it was barely solidified. The chicken was less bland than it's boiled and blah counterparts and local spots with nicer dining rooms and very generic offerings. The Carne Asada had a nice hint of lime in its flavoring (before lime was squeezed on it). I was excited to see the salsa bar, and pleased with the selection, although the spicier options could stand to have more flavor. All in all, when smothered with salsa the tacos were decent enough on my first visit for me to return. On my second visit (on a quiet Saturday- the first visit was during the weekday lunch rush) everything was a fail. The Carne tasted like it was defrosted and cooked without even a glance at the spice rack, and the Chorizo was even mushier. My husband said the crunchy tacos with ground beef tasted like school lunch. Street style tacos are a simple enough dish that they should be able to be prepared consistently with fresh ingredients and with the same flavor notes each time. When the simplest item on the menu can't be done right, I don't intend to return to try anything else.

Awesome food and quick service. No fancy dining here, just great food at the most decent prices...best hole-in-the-wall taco joint!

We decided to stop into Mr. Taco based entirely on the reviews. Either we hit a bad day or the reviews are used to a much different type of food than I find palatable. We ordered tacos, a mix of chicken and pork and were underwhelmed by the blandness. Seriously, I have had frozen food with more flavor. Add to this lackluster service and a dingy dining room and I am left avoiding Mr. Taco. Lastly, I love Mexican food. I frequent several excellent Mexican restaurants where the service is great, the food flavorful, and the dining room clean. If you need to disagree with me, please do so in an imaginative manner and if you are going to call me names because I did not care for a restaurant you like, well, choose something original.

Finally had lunch here today with a few friends and yes... this place is great. I had the carnitas torta with a pineapple jarritos. The torta bread was soft and super fresh and the carnitas had good flavor and a decent amount of yummy char albeit slightly on the dry side. My friends had steak and carnitas tacos and said they were great. The salsa bar was pretty good 3/5 Habenero salsa was not great on its own but shined when mixed in with the pico. All in all some of the best mexican I've had in Jacksonville and I will definitely be back.

OMG, is this place incredible! Their tacos are the best I've ever had in Jacksonville. Not only do they fill them with incredible amounts of meats and other good things, the tortillas are the most wonderfully cooked tortillas I've ever experienced, taco-wise at a Mexican restaurant. These guys (ladies in the back) really know what they're doing! The carnitas are moist and savory and the chorizo is spicy and satisfying. They load up the tacos to the max with meat, onions, pico, crema, cheese, etc... to add to their goodness too. Still, the thing that floors me most is the attention they pay to the preparation of their tortillas. Outstanding! The gratis chips that they bring to you to eat while your food is being cooked are great and the very varied salsa bar affords you multiple choices not just with which to dip your chips but with also to spice up your main courses too. The prices? Negligible. You can easily get in and out of here, even after a generous tip (despite the ordering process, you SHOULD tip!) for way less than ten bucks. This is by far the best "authentic" Mexican joint in JAX, IMHO. I try to go here as often as I can when in the area.

I keep going back hoping that the quality will improve, but the quality of flavor is short of the mark. It's Mexican food, it supposed to explode with flavor not grease. 4 tries and no mas.

Ok I lived in San Diego for 4 years so I know real authentic tacos and in Jacksonville this is the closest you are gonna get. They make their salsa there homemade! I personally love the carne asada tacos but I heard all or them are pretty good! The tacos come loaded so you only need salsa for the chips!! I love this place! And pretty fast service so if you work in Southpoint like I do they will get you in and out.

  • Tony A.

I had 3 tacos de carnitas and they wore juicy and flavorful. I do NOT recommend take out!... by the time you get home the food will be cool and the tortilla will crumble and the overall quality will go down. Eat at the restaurant where it's fresh! I felt welcomed especially since I'm Hispanic and was able to communicate in spanish. I had an overall great experience here!

Lunch time awaits... Bring your patience and hunger and you won't be disappointed with the authenticity this hole in the wall brings you. Very authentic taste to their tacos and the way their meat was prepared and served in each taco brought an abundance of flavor and no room for fluff.

  • Rose M.

Cheap. Good. And worth the lunchtime wait. I have gone three times now and have found their only transgression being when I order salsa to go they send me home with the wrong kind. Get the glass bottle coke for a taste of coca cola with real sugar imported from Mexico.

The tacos were great! I had tacos asada, pastor, and pollo and my husband had a steak enchilada and they were amazing. Really fresh and well seasoned. We were just passing through town, and the food hit the spot!

Don't judge this place by its out of the way location and run down strip mall storefront. My wife and I are from SoCal and this place is as good as it gets in Jacksonville. It's the real deal in every way. We haven't been here enough to move around the menu yet, but the guacamole side order is wonderful. We usually get the Carne Asada tacos with the white corn tortillas. They are just like back home and are always served hot with nice soft tortillas. If you've never experienced Cokes bottled in Mexico, give them a try (you'll have to ask for them)... For me they bring back memories of going to Tijuana for the day with my Dad. We'd always grab a couple of street tacos and a Coke pulled right out an old bucket of ice water with huge chunks of chipped ice floating in it. The Salsa bar here is always fresh and offers a great choice of hot sauces. For me the medium hot sauce is just the perfect topping for the yummy carne asada tacos. It doesn't over power the squeeze of fresh lime a pinch of cilantro that's all part of the experience. The only thing missing are the sliced hot carrots (maybe they will read this). This place is always slammed at lunch time, so try to get there by 11:30. The service is great, and they do their best to handle the rush.

First timer today. I am very pleased with the authentic tacos served. I am a hard shell fan and I do believe that they make their own and they are delicious. I did the special of 4 tacos with 2 being the chorizo and the others molida. They both were fantastic. And as others have said plenty of toppings to make it worth while. They definitely won over a new customer today. I like tacos...

This is one of those times I wish there were half stars because this place is right in the middle of 3 and 4 . The tacos were really good I'd rank them third in jax behind Taco Lu and Lola . I had the carnitas and pastor both really tasty and fresh . The salsa bar is pretty cool but the location and the atmosphere of this place just plan sucked . I'd come back if for some reason I'm back in the neighborhood but won't go outta my way .

Another stellar family-owned and operated Jax food joint! -House-made food items -Fresh-n-flavorful homemade salsa bar -Chips with your meal -Inexpensive menu -Uber-Friendly service Not a lot of atmosphere to speak of and the booths could use some TLC -- but honestly I was so distracted by my d.e.l.i.s.h. taco trio that I could have been sitting on a stump in the middle of the forest and it wouldn't have mattered... This perfect place to please the salsa-craving palate has a menu that is chock full of good eats!

On point this time around and even brought a friend along to introduce them to Mr. Taco. I quite love him, with his deliciously crispy, yellow hard tacos. I could never contain my patients and excitingly rush to stuff my mouth, only to get burnt in the process since it is fresh off the stove steaming hot. Its the price you pay to consume such goodness!!! Please give Mr. Taco a try, he is a hidden gem. Want more info? Read my previous review. I didn't want to sound repetitive loading them with all the superlatives that I did in the past.

Ok, let's talk tacos! I was born in San Diego, California. Mexican food for days, cheap, delicious, filling, and usually open 24 hours....a gift and a curse. I remember many nights talking to my cousin at like 2am, "hey!, Carne Asada(steak) burrito? He sighs and we get into the car. Night after night, Carne Asada fries? Fish Tacos? Rinse and repeat. I recently lived there and we went to this one fish taco truck at least 30 times in 5-6 months. If I could grand theft auto one of these food trucks and drive it to Florida, I would! That is how serious it is. Check out the pictures from my California food blog and tell me how you feel. natedoesfood.tumblr.com/… natedoesfood.tumblr.com/… Fast forward to now. I look at Steve M.'s profile and 1st review I see is Mr.taco. His review sealed the deal. I hit up a fellow yelp-er and we ring the lunch bell! I went with the 3 taco option on the highly recommended SOFT, GRILLED, YELLOW CORN tortillas that Steve M. instructed me to get. 3 tacos for $5.75. I went with one Chorizo, one Carne Asada(Steak), and one Molida(seasoned ground beef). This is by far the closest to California Carne Asada you can get. I destroyed that Carne Asada and the grilled, yellow corn tortilla is perfect. They double it for each taco so it can hold all the ingredients. The white cheese they use is on point, I have to find out what kind it is. The damn salsa or pico is stupid fresh, I can eat that all day with the free tortilla chips. Look at the pic I posted look how fresh that cilantro looks! The seasoned ground beef was pretty good but I think I hit a chunk of salt towards the end. The chorizo had a nice spicy kick...::my mouth just watered thinking about it. When I pulled up I saw the Mr.Taco food truck! I remember trying to hunt this truck down about a year ago. I was like a bloodhound on Beach Boulevard. I finally found it Julie! I can see why you rave about it! I have a food truck event cooking up in my head that was going to be a fundraiser a couple months ago. I posted the pictures on Instagram and apparently this a hidden gem that everyone and they momma knew about except me! "This is my spot!","I live close by lets get a group together and go soon","try the Torta". I got time fo dat! There is still much to try like the Pastor, Carnitas, Pollo, Seafood tacos, Tortas, Nachos, and the Carne Asada burrito. This place is in the middle of nowhere, but i'll be back or ill hunt down the Food truck again!

I have eaten their Carnitas Tacos every day for lunch for the last 3 weeks. The price is right, and it is DELICIOUS. Their medium salsa has just a touch of heat (they are NOT KIDDING ABOUT THE HOT SALSA) and is a perfect compliment. $6 for lunch is the best deal in town for the best Mexican food around. ALSO....their refried beans are NOT flavorless mush out of a can. They are actually cooked in-house (I asked) and blended. I have NEVER before enjoyed refried beans. This restaurant has changed my life.

In an otherwise non description strip mall Mr taco was fairly busy on a Wednesday around 12:30. Nice selection of seemingly homemade salsas but they were out of carnitas and chicken so I got a steak burrito, which was quite small but flavorful. It certainly ought to be with all the sour cream& rice but very ittle meat inside.....hardly enough to fill me up. They serve a basket of stale larden laden chips with the meal and even tho I asked for water, they charged for a soda...almost $10 bucks for a quick bite to eat. Sadly, I won't be back and I was hoping this place would be a keeper. Nope

I can't believe it took me so long to get here! I lived on the Southside for so long and never went. Now when I make trips to the Southside this would probably be the highlight to my trip. Seriously delicious food for such a cheap price. There's a salsa bar! If you know me at all I'm a stickler on charging me for chips and salsa. They give you one free basket of chips and the salsa bar you just walk right up to. I'd suggest, like everyone else, getting the three tacos and getting different meats in each one. Oh! Also a highlight is!! They have horchata out on the counter for self serving. Just order a drink and horchata till the end of days. I was so excited and was so hungry I didn't take a photo.

I'm a fan of the three tacos combo. Usually I get chicken, Asada (beef), and Carnita (pork), or shredded chicken. They are fresh made with quality ingredients and taste great. The downside has been the queso. Although it tastes fine, It is too thin for my liking. There is also a delicious selection of non-HFCS beverages in the cooler from hecho en Mexico Coca-Cola to Juanitas.

Everything I've read about Mr. Taco appears to be true. This is an unassuming mexican place nestled into an unassuming shopping center off I-95, and it makes me very happy. Mr. Taco has an assortment of standard Mexican-restaurant food as well as some more traditional small tacos with cilantro & onion. I ordered the same 3 tacos I usually have at Casa Maria and La Nopalera: pastor, chorizo, asada. Mr. Taco's tacos were strictly better; fresher, less greasy, tastier. The chorizo here is wonderful - my wife ordered the asada nachos, and one of our compatriots ordered the chorizo nachos, and while the asada was fine to slightly underseasoned, the chorizo was delicious and not nearly as greasy/salty as La Nopalera's. The prices are very reasonable, the guacamole was extremely fresh, and there's a great salsa bar. I'll be back again soon to try more stuff.

The best taqueria in Jacksonville, hands down. After moving to Jacksonville from Chicago and discovering that the locals here consider La Nopalera to be good mexican food, I was concerned that proper tacos might not exist in this town. I'm so thankful I found Mr. Taco. It's as good or better than any of my old favorite taco spots in Chicago. The only thing I would change is to move it closer to my house. Regardless, I will continue to drive 40 minutes one way for Mr. Taco. It's that good.

My husband and I are both from Los Angeles California, when we got station in Jacksonville we knew what we would miss the most were going to be the Mexican tacos. This place is so good, the best Mexican food we have had in Jacksonville ever. We both recommend this location or their taco truck on Beach Blvd, the food is great in both locations. You can use cash or credit.

Mr. Taco...clean, cheap, and good! It's happily tucked away in a small strip center on Bowden Road, and is unassuming, but once you're in - you'll be hooked! I love the salsa bar. They'll bring you out a basket of warm tortilla chips and then have at it....there are usually three spicy varieties, a few regular ones, a tomatillo version and then limes, cilantro and tomatoes chopped up. You MUST get a torta. I get the bean torta and it's so good - perfectly pillowy bread with refried beans, lettuce, tomato, avocado and sour cream. It'll set you back a mere $3.50! My friends have raved about the carne asada version as well. The tacos are decent, I had a shrimp taco and torta and was stuffed.

  • Rita D.

Hmmm...sorry Yeeps, I'm not impressed. Not because of the food; it was a tad salty but otherwise tasty. Monica S was right in the need for some TLC but I will extend that out to the entire restaurant, including staff. Yea, it's a hole in the wall located in a less than strip mall but that's not the point. First of all, no greeting, barely 3 sentences uttered and when I asked what was popular among the locals, 1 of those 3 sentences were "They eat the tacos". Really? I shrugged off her "I wish you would hurry up" attitude and ordered the 3 taco combo. On my way to my booth, I couldn't help but notice that 1 out of every 2 tables still had trash, crumbs and random pieces of dishes on them, and the trash can was overflowing with the tortilla baskets and salsa bowls that they ask customers not to throw away. The drink station had no signs and I received no fair warning stating that only 2 of the drink options were working and to add insult to injury, there were 2 large random plastic buckets partially blocking it. Keep in mind that other than a small family of 3 and I, there were no other customers. There were 4 guys sitting down eyeballing me then talking/laughing to each other in Spanish (don't you just hate that, ladies?!) ) who I came to find out worked there. Soooooo...yawl can sit around and shoot the shit but you can't clear the tables and take the dishes to the kitchen? Thank your lucky stars I wasn't one of those slick district managers posing as a regular customer or something...you all would be fired by sundown. smdh. I hadn't eaten all day and had a lot on my mind so by the time the things I mentioned really hit me, the young lady was already setting my order down in front of me (of course walking off without a word). Trying to remain optimistic, I again shrugged off my realization along with her attitude and began to eat. Nothing to be wow'd over but I can understand how people are fans of the food because it is indeed good. I ordered 3 different meats in my 3 tacos: pork, shredded chicken and ground beef, all of which were yum. Not greasy, fresh flavor and didn't make me sick afterwards so no complaints in that regard. The salsa was a nice addition but I have made better at home..hell I have bought better in the store, so for them to be "homemade", I was pretty disappointed. I don't see myself coming back here to eat even if I happen to be in the area and in a taco mood; the best way to lose me as a customer is to have stank attitudes and a haphazard atmosphere....Mr. Taco, you have achieved that. SMH.

I'm always on the hunt for good Mexican food here in Jacksonville. Of course everyone knows about how each La Nopalera is different. And how long the wait is for Taco Lu (hint: go after lunch rush but before dinner time). Mr. Taco seems to be more a word of mouth place and the word is really getting out. One of my co-workers has nothing but good things to say about it so I figured I would swing by. I was told ahead of time that they get a line out the door during lunches and be prepared. I figured no problem, a long line indicates good food...most of the time right? Just ask anyone that has been to the French Pantry. So, I get there right at 11:00. I'm starving and I don't have time to wait in a line. Lo and behold, nobody is there yet! I walk right in and order the Beef Taco, Steak Quesadilla and a drink. As I'm walking to a booth, I pass the "salsa bar" and spot some good choices. There are a total of 6 to choose from and they range from mild to YOU'RE GOING TO DIE! flavors. I'm kidding, it's not really called that. I grabbed a couple (they were very tasty) and sat down. Since we were there by ourselves (I was with a friend...no, not an imaginary one), the food came fast and it was hot. The Beef Taco was good and had a decent portion of beef in it. The Steak Quesadilla was amazing. The steak has perfectly flavored and cooked. It wasn't dried out like shoe leather. Plenty of cheese in there too. This is something you should definitely try when you come here. The chips that came with my meal were slightly on the stale side but I'm guessing that it is because I was first and might have gotten yesterday's leftovers. Next time, I'm going to try all 6 salsas and get back to you with the results. They all looked good. The Good: - Great value - Good taste - No frills restaurant jaxfoodcritic.com

I go often for lunch and it's consistently awesome. Suggest you get there early or there can be a wait to order and pay (personal service takes time, but it's worth it). I always get tacos (Carnitas). It's soo good I can't resist getting it again and again. They have a new-ish food truck they often park across from the T-Rex on Beach Blvd (near the 2 pool halls), but I haven't tried that. Very nice people with good food at their brick-n-mortar, tho! Aside from their carnitas, I've tried the "el pastor" (chunks of pork in a kind of bbq rub/sauce?), and asada, which were both tasty, and the Chorizo, which was AMAZING. I don't personally care for the grease involved with a proper Chorizo but as a treat, or if that's your thing, it was what you're looking for in a Chorizo... Carnitas is consistently awesome and keeps me coming back over and over. The owners are always there and directly involved with the service and quality control, and they probably don't even charge what they really should. Not complaining...

Ok dont be alarmed by the way it looks. It looks like a bad place but it is NOT. when you walk in you wont be impressed by anything but ignore that and go order yourself the carne asada taco (i ordered mine with corn tortilla to make it more authentic). I also ordered some guacamole. their salsa is very very good. the guacamole is made on order but lacked garlic and a few goodies so it was average to me but the reason i give them 5 stars is for their taco. These are not like the tacos that you get at taco bell these are done authentic style and are ver good and flavorful. Even their salsa is made fresh and is awsome. Enjoy The Tony Montana of food

Mr. Taco is right around the corner from my new job and, knowing my love for all things Mexican, a friend invited me there for lunch. Its location inside a run-down strip mall leaves a lot to be desired, but then I remembered that many of my favorite places are of the hole-in-the-wall variety. The place was packed with people on their lunch breaks but I welcomed the moment in line to read the menu. The woman running the counter (Mrs. Taco, I presume) was extremely friendly and efficient. It was a Wednesday, and my friend ordered the special - 4 tacos for $8. Too much food for me, but quite the deal. I decided on chicken fajita tacos with onions and peppers in a soft corn shell. They were delicious. While waiting on my food, I saw a fresh looking salad piled with avocados placed at the table next to me. I don't know what it was, but I intend to find out on my next trip!

Not good! My taco salad looked good but was foul. The dressing was some creamy citrus monstrosity. The meat was underwhelming. Wife's veggie burrito was passable, but veggie burritos are hardly worth eating. Guac was all lime and very bland beyond that. Chips tasted like cardboard. Salsa bar was like any boring chain restaurant's. I don't see what the big deal is.

If you want Mexican food you NEED to go to this place ASAP! I'm from California (and part Mexican myself) this is the ONLY place in Jacksonville I would say serves authentic Mexican food. And if you're really lucky they'll have some yummy Pan (fresh Mexican pastries) there too. 10 out of 10.

Cheap, good Mexican food. I had three tacos for 5.50....worth the price. This place isn't fancy, but has a more authentic feel than Moe's and I liked salsa better.

This place is heaven for a Texan in Florida! I visited Mr. Taco on a Yelp recommendation and was certainly pleased. The service was friendly and quick, and they were more than helpful with the menu and suggestions. I had two shrimp tacos on corn tortillas, chips and salsas (from the salsa bar), and a side of rice and black beans, all for $8! The portions were very large and I wasn't able to finish my rice or black beans, but those tacos were devoured in seconds. One bad thing, they don't take American Express. They accept Visa and MasterCard for credit.

Ordered the 3 tacos meal on the menu. (2 asada and 1 carnitas on a yellow corn tortilla). The carnitas taco was very good. The taste of the food and service were good. Did not like their queso dip or tortilla chips. Food was a bit greasy.

Mr. Taco, well I am from Texas and these are the best tacos in Jacksonville. Lots of other places I like, but these are authentic. For me it is about fresh and flavor and they have it here. They make their own salsas and have something for everyone. I don't find any of them so hot they burn, but a couple of them do have a nice kick. Each time I go, it is a couple of tacos, soft white corn tortillas all the way. That does mean they will have fresh onion on them, so it you don't like onion ask them to leave them off, but why ruin your taco. They have great chorizo, asada, pastor, carnitas and chicken. You won't be disappointed with any choice. Also, give the 99 cent bean and cheese burrito a try. It is a mouthful of goodness. The beans have great flavor and the white flour tortilla is wonderful. And last, the folks there are so genuine and are always so nice to me and my group. Thanks so much! Happy Eating.

This is my go-to lunch spot. I always order the salad with carne asada, its made with fresh fancy greens and you can't beat the price. I recommend you call in the order for pick up ahead of time because it does get busy around noon.

Truly a hidden gem! When I first heard the name, I thought it was going to be some generic Mexican place...boy was I wrong! This place is as authentic as it gets! I got the 3 tacos (carnitas, asada, and chicken) and they were outstanding! They have a salsa bar with 8 different varieties, and they taste like they were just made (because they probably were.) My friend ordered her tacos with avocado. When the lady brought it out she told her that she is refunding her $1 (for the avocado) because they did not look good and she was not going to serve them. That really took us by surprise because most places would go ahead and serve it to make an extra buck. This showed us that this place is not only delicious, but honest!

My husband and I have visited Mr Taco twice since moving to Jacksonville about a month ago. This place is fantastic. Like others have said it is quite small and dingy but wow the food is awesome. I have gotten both the tacos and the burrito and I would highly recommend the taco's to anyone who wants an awesome taco. The burrito was okay but not my favorite. It wasn't bad but it just wasn't as awesome as the tacos were. I don't think I will stray from the tacos again. I think everyone should give this place a try because it is well worth it.

I hadn't been to Mr. Taco in awhile, but after a disappointing visit to TacoLu I had to go back and see if it was really as good as I remember. It definitely was! I heart Mr. Taco! VERY casual restaurant - order and pay at the counter, select your salsa from the salsa bar and pick a seat. Either the cashier or the cook will bring you your order super quick. One of my favorite things about Mr. Taco is that the offer sodas imported from Mexico, which means they are made with real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. So I always get a Coca Cola in a glass bottle - it just doesn't get any better than that! They also have a sangria flavored soda that is delicious. The salsa bar offers six different kinds of salsa in varying degrees of spiciness. I love their tomatillo salsa - its mild but very flavorful. My husband goes for the hottest thing on there and says it is terrific (a note: while he loves his salsa spicy, he refuses to give up flavor for heat...so if he says its terrific that means it is both spicy AND flavorful). When ordering tacos you have a choice of a hard corn shell, soft white corn tortilla, soft yellow corn tortilla or flour tortilla. Options are good! I always go for the soft white corn. I had three carne asada tacos and my husband had one each of the chorizo, carnitas and carne asada tacos. All of the tacos were generously stuffed with well-cooked, flavorful and juicy meat plus cheese, cilantro and onion. Delicious! Our total for six tacos and two drinks was just $14.98. Can't go wrong with that! Mr. Taco offers several other items - quesadillas, burritos, fajitas, etc. I suppose someday I will try them. But for now, I can't get enough of the tacos! I think these are easily the best tacos in Jacksonville.

Can only speak for the fish taco's and horchata... The fish taco's are not the best... I think they microwave the fish to heat it up (based on texture and unbelievable temperature). The tortilla's, salsa, cabbage and other fix-ins are pretty solid. Obviously, this is a locally owned, non-chain restaurant and I want to like them. From what I've read, the other tacos (carne and pollo), are great- so go with them as I can't, with good conscious, recommend the fish taco's... just not good. The horchata was pretty decent if you're into it.. but I've better (even on the East coast). Support local business and try the taco's- just NOT the fish variety. The salsa's were great and the service quite friendly! Good luck Mr. Taco! -K-man

The burrito was good, they use quaso instead of shredded cheese, which was interesting. Very friendly service.

The carnitas torta is a notably good sandwich and I'd have it again. It has greasy, delicious bread and a big chunk of avocado in it. There was a small bit of bone in it, however, and the carintas may have been a bit dry. The chorizo in my burrito was too rich for my taste. The food does taste different, and homemade, here. This counter-service restaurant is a bit of a dump, and the food takes longer to prepare than I expected, maybe 15 minutes.

Well I have been in this parking lot many times but I have never eaten at Mr. Taco. I went and then found Hunter's (it's now Closed) and then at the other end is Flip Flops(really good) to. So this time I applied my blinders and went into Mr. Tacos. The place is a little run down but clean. I looked at the menu and decided on the Chorizo Torta and a Hamburger an Cheese Quesadilla. Now the chorizo was different. As a sausage maker I was mildly surprised with the meat chunks instead of gound meat. The spices were nice with a good little kick. Now the torta and not the bread I was thinking of having got quite a few tortas in Texas but the bun was nice and soft almost creamy. It kinda melted into the torta. The experience at whole was a good one but I think that the old Mexican lady that used to come up on job sites in Texas may have spoiled me on cheap but very well prepared foods. Nice try but I think I should have went to the other end of this strip center.

Not the best tacos al pastor I've ever had - I even had better ones in an airport once - but if you order them simple (just onions and cilantro) and add your own salsa and lime, this is (as far as I know) as close as you'll get to real tacos in Jacksonville.

I visit this place on a regular basis as it is very convenient to my work. The carnitas are pretty good but I don't recommend ordering anything with ground beef, it tastes too finely shredded to me almost like sand. The staff are very kind and courteous people and are pretty quick to prepare your food.

Went for lunch today and although a little pricier than I anticipated I wasn't disappointed. I had three flour pastor tacos and my coworker had the chicken quesadilla. We also split the queso dip. I'm gonna come back to try the burrito. I'm happy to know that sell Jarritos here, unfortunately they were out this afternoon. Love finding Ma & Pa Hispanic eateries here in town.

It does look like a dumpy little joint when driving by but it's the best authentic Mexican around. The shredded chicken has great flavor and they're not skimpy with their portions. Everything I've had tastes fresh and the service has always been good, even during busy weekday lunch hours. I love the tamarind drink! This isn't the fine dining atmosphere but the hole in the wall good stuff.

I went here recently with someone who is also from San Diego and we were looking for Baja California Mexican food (specifically, fish tacos). My rating is in relation to San Diego Mexican food (it would probably get 3 stars for Jacksonville). Between the two of us, we ordered some fish tacos, a shrimp taco, carne asada burrito and side of guacamole. The Good: -Guacamole tasted fresh -Salsa bar with lots of different versions of salsa -Reasonable carne asada taco with good quality meat inside The Bad: -Fish tacos were not right. The woman at the counter claimed that they would be genuine baja fish tacos, but these aren't. They were dry and didn't have that tangy sour cream based white sauce that often comes on fish tacos. They come with shredded lettuce instead of shredded cabbage. It also had cheese on it, which isn't usually served on a fish taco if you get one in So CA or Baja Mexico. Aside from not being the type of taco I expected, I was say there were just average and a bit on the dry, flavorless side. -Shrimp taco was also dry and over salted -Most of the empty tables were dirty. The service was also slow considering that the place was half-empty and only had one person in line in front of us. -An English speaking religious music station was playing and a song called "Come to Jesus" was on while we were eating. No thanks. The Ugly: -Our bill came to $32. That is pretty hefty for a burrito, 4 fish tacos and a shrimp taco (+2 drinks). They only allow you to order fish tacos in pairs and a single fish taco is $5.50 (ouch). Definitely not So Cal prices for a counter service, plain old taco shop in a strip mall. Bottom Line: I'm not sure how this place gets the reviews it does because it is an average taco shop that isn't worth crossing town to try. I definitely won't come here again, but if you live across the street or down the road, I'd say it is as good as anything else in Jax (which, again, is mediocre).

HOLY TORTA!!!!!!! Now, let me just say that I have tried this place numerous times and have never been wowed. I pretty much have been slowly making my way through the menu in an effort to really understand why people love it so much. The tacos are nothing amazing. The tostadas are unimpressive. The burritos are whatever. We got warmer with the chorizo nachos, but nothing had blown me away until tonight. Tonight was the night of the carintas torta. The bread is phenomenal, the carnitas juicy and flavorful, the combination of beans, sour cream and fresh avocado absolutely amazing. Now, my opinion may be slightly skewed because this is my first experience with the delicious magic that is torta, but it is absolutely a five star sandwich. It's also pretty hefty in size. My mom and I split the sandwich and each got a taco. After one bite of torta, I immediately regretted wasting valuable stomach space on taco. I am always let down by a restaurant that doesn't have any booze. I like to wash my Mexican down with a delicious Mexican beer naturally. Also, the service at this place is kind of ridiculous. I have both witnessed and experienced wrong orders. Also, when there's no line, it seems like no one even works there. For example, tonight, when I required either another (delicious, REAL) coca-cola or a box to take my dinner to-go, I waited at least 7 minutes for someone to come out of the back of the restaurant. The atmosphere is definitely nothing special. . That being said, this place is officially my new favorite to-go restaurant!

A burrito joint really throws a wrench in my ranking system. Do I rank it only compared to other burrito / Mexican restaurants.... OR do I put it up against all the places. If I'm only doing a burrito ranking list in Jacksonville, it is right behind Burrito Gallery. It is different than style than BG, but very good. So overall, awesome burritos. Don't get scared off by my 3 stars.... I will definitely go back and have been recommending this place to friends.

We've recently moved to Jacksonville and discovered Mr. Taco through Yelp. We've been a few times and it never disappoints. They use fresh ingredients so the quality is much better than many of the other similar restaurants. Hands down better than Chipotle, Moe's, and La Nopelera! The shrimp tacos are a favorite of mine and the carne asada is a favorite of my husband. Not only is the food fresh and delicious here the staff has always been super friendly and always helpful. The owner is from Guatemala and is constantly looking for ways to improve his restaurant.

The lunch crowd was still busy at 1:30 in the afternoon -- a good sign. I ordered shrimp fajitas. Lots of grilled green peppers and onions with the shrimp, along with 4 flour tortillas, rice and beans and it was almost enough to share. I like the salsa bar where you can choose your own and try them all. The beans with thin, but otherwise everything was very good.

After many bad experiences trying to find mexican food in jacksonville- I checked yelp and Mr. Taco had great reviews. Mr. Taco has AMAZING FOOD. The taco's were freshly made and I could tell the salsa was freshly made not some store brand. This place is highly recomended.

This was great. I had the carne asada tacos ... and one shrimp taco (couldn't resist) and it was GREAT!!!! I'm really particular about tortillas and these were the BEST. I really enjoyed my tacos, they were good and hot. The salsa there is amazing. I could not stop eating the chips because the salsa was so good

Hmm...looks like Arturo's review is gone...wonder why? I actually thought there was one other review too and that's gone as well...drama with Mr Taco? Anyway, went back for a carne asada burrito today and it was mmm good. Again, this place is like West Coast taqueria food. Not all Chipotle, Qdoba, Moe's out...and definately not like La Nopelera. I find it to be superior to all those joints. The carne asada has really nice flavor and it really reminds me of being in LA. I do wish they had pollo asado though. That'd be great. Their horchata (rice drink) sucks though and I'd never, ever get it again. It tasted overly sweet, processed and almost medicinal. I like mine more creamy (kinda milky) with a cinnamony sweetness. Oh well.

Delicious! Was a great treat for an inexpensive ground beef burrito. I ordered it with shredded cheese and avo. They did overcharge me, and when I asked about it seemed to not see the difference in the menu price and the price I was charged. I did enjoy the food, was a great find. I'll go there again, but I'll be sure to double-check my receipt before leaving the counter.

If you want some really good tacos... you have to go to MR. TACO! Cheap and great tasting. What more could you ask for? .. I'll tell you what.. FASTER SERVICE! I would have given it 5 stars, but everytime I've eaten inside the joint, it takes forever to get the food. BUT.. anytime I've called ahead, the food was ready on time, so you may want to try that route.

My family loves this place. Great portion sizes. Not icky greasy mushy. Everything always looks and tastes fresh. The salsa bar has their home made salsas in different heats so there's something for everyone. And you gotta try the torta. A thin slice of Mexican food heaven.

Has supplanted tijuana flats as my favorite taco in town. They have horchata, piniatas, and damn fine tacos that could be mistaken for LaNop's. You get 3 tacos for 5.25. I'm full after 2.

Well, like the other reviewers who've experienced SoCal Mexican food, this place doesn't quite measure up. It is better than La Napolera. This place is your typical burrito dive. I tried the 3 taco special carne asada and it wasn't bad. The meat wasn't as seasoned as I usually like. Maybe that's the way they roll here in Jax. The portions are good sized though, and it is pretty easy to find just take the 95 get off on Bowden or University and go west till you see them on the right. I'd go back. This is the best Mexican I've had in Jax so far.

Mr. Taco serves great and authentic cuisine. It's casual dining; you order at the front and they bring it out to you a few minutes later. Their menu is simple but offers something for everyone. I had the 3 taco special. The hard shell had the perfect flavor and texture; you can definitely tell they're homemade. The beef was not greasy and had nice flavor. The cheese was good and plentiful. Their salsa bar offers plenty of choices (even for wimps like me). The service was excellent and both employees working were very friendly. I can't wait to come back and try some of their other choices. Well done Mr. Taco! :)

I tried this a few days ago and was impressed. The tacos were authentic and tasted great. The habernero salsa is not to be trifled with. Service was attentive and the meal was great. You would be hard pressed to spend more than 10.00 here so the prices are on point. It is not located convenient to me but anytime I am in the area I will be stopping in.

Nice diversion from the mainstream taco stand. Nice selection of jarritos soft drinks. Feels like something you would find in the lower baja. The restaurant is also partly a grocery store selling Goya products alongside central American calling cards. Definitely worth a visit.

Great food but seriously long lines. This place is always packed. So when you come for lunch - come stupid early. Because when you pop up like me at 1pm you're mouth is watering thinking about the 3 tacos for $5.75. Of course you gotta get 3 different kinds - it would only be right. You make it to the front of the line. "Which 3 would you like?" Chorizo - we're out of that. Carne Asada - we're out of that - What do you have? Molida (side eye). You don't come for the scenary - you come for the food and I've never been disappoint in what they have available. And please make room for the Tres Leche - it will have you sucking your fingers during a staff meeting. Definitely a fan!

Well after throwing down on the warm fresh chips with the various fresh salsas from the salsa bar I started on my first taco. It was Packed with juicy chicken and picked today toppings. The Taco was so big I had to take home the other two. I love Mr Tacos expansion I just wish they would expand to Orange Park too . I do see they now have a Food truck which is AwEsOmE!! I will be back soon for a authentic torta!!!!!! Appreciated the christian spanish music too! Thanks to my hubby for taking me!!

Are you looking for: - shit to uphold your Second Amendment? - erotic toys? - seedy clubs that can serve surf and turf with your lap dance? - tacos for $6? (unrelated to above) Because those are really the only reasons to be around this microcosm of shame. I love me some tacos. It can be cheap, fast, and satisfying. I could eat them everyday if there were no health repercussions or social stigma. I've been to both their sit down restaurant and one of their three food trucks (University/Phillips), which I may or may not review each separately. Until then, I'll just lump them together because they're both fantastic. First, curb your expectations for what this place is and isn't. You won't find the any of following listed on their menu: - "Chutney" - (*insert tropical fruit*) salsa. No pineapple, no mango, no peach. Like Koolaid flavors, you either get the red or the green and mild or spicy salsa. - cilantro, chipotle, nor anything-infused crema - pulled pork, seared ahi tuna, pseudo meat products like soy or tempeh - "banging", "bang bang", or any other variation of the word bang to describe anything What you will find is the menu is pretty straightforward. These are simply street tacos. No frills, none that frou frou shenanigans here. Menu reads something like: Tacos | Tortas | Burritos Under each section, you'll see items in English, to the right in Spanish. PROS + Cheap Under $6 for my 3 tacos (2 pastor, 1 chorizo). Some of the other taco joints can charge anywhere from $3-5 for each one. (Tacolu, On the Fly, Corner Taco, Burrito Gallery, Lola's, La Nopalera) + Mix and match them. None of that "three of a kind" shenanigans. Deals are in sets of threes, but you can get a single taco if you want. + Hours/Location If you want to avoid potential carbon monoxide poisoning and a heat stroke, go to the actual restaurant instead of the food truck. Or you can be one of those human paraquats who confuse the truck for a drive-thru and block those of us who aren't lazy, from actually ordering. Their food truck is usually open from 4pm - 2am. Perfect when need to eat your feelings after playing in the Doll House and easy to find even when you've broken your moral compass. That large "LIQUOR" sign is your North Star. Taste: + The double corn tortillas were fresh and warm, still had a nice bite to it. Never soggy. + Perfect meat : topping ratio. My go-tos - Tacos al Pastor were nicely seasoned. They had the usual tomatoes and were garnished with Cojita (I think) and cilantro. + Bite consistency over bite variety. (Because that should be a thing to add for technical criteria.) Tacos were topped with a light drizzle of sour cream. Even the burrito, had perfected the sour cream smear. Ever bit into one and got a mouthful of sour cream? That shit is gross. There exist a happy medium in condiment application, somewhere between that zig-zag coloring at Subway and slopping sour cream on like it's prison gruel. That place is Mr. Taco. + Easy to eat Bonus: Didn't crumble apart despite my man-handling excitement. If you have to resort to using a fork for a taco, either they overstuffed it or you just have dismal motor skills and don't even deserve to have a taco. CONS - Chorizo just didn't taste good. It was greasy, but that was expected. It had the texture of mushy meatloaf. I decided to try it again, thinking it may have been an off day. Ack. There was this unappetizing, bitter tang each time. Maybe that's how it's actually supposed to taste and I don't know any better? No idea if it's the seasoning or nuances of rotten flesh. Still want Mexican food and are looking to spend the rest of your night atop the ivory throne? Keep driving down Phillips, you'll find your golden ticket at Taco Bell or La Nopelera.

Time of Visit: Lunch...a lot Order: 4 Pastor tacos, 2 Ground Beef tacos, and a Tres Leches Bill: $17 Pros: Amazing tacos, best Tres Leches ever, quick take out service Cons: The line to order can get long around lunch (this could also be a Pro) Thoughts: I can't count the number of times I've eaten here so I finally decided to write a review. There are really just two things you need to know about Mr. Taco. First; they have they best street style tacos in Jacksonville. Second, they have the best Tres Leches I have ever eaten. If you like either of these things go visit them! Now for some details, when I say street tacos what I mean is a simple taco with meat, a little lettuce, cream cheese, sour cream, and tomatoes. You aren't getting some crazy sauce, or mango chutney, or any other topping that you would typically see on an "upscale" taco; and its amazing. The meat is the key to this being such a great taco, the pastor and ground beef are especially tasty and they seem to hit the seasoning on both of them perfectly. While the tacos are just a bit on the small side you can get 3 tacos for just under $6 and that is more than enough to fill you up. They also have a small salsa bar that you can dump all over the top of your tacos (or put in to-go cups if you don't want to get messy). The Tres Leches here is also the best Tres Leches I have ever eaten. It might actually be perfect; the cake is not mushy and soaked with excessive amounts of milk like most other Tres Leches I've eaten, its also not dry like those that are not soaked in milk. The balance of sweetness is just right as well, not too sweet but still tastes like a desert. I really can't recommend this place enough for anyone who wants a few good delicious tacos, and maybe some Tres Leches to finish it off.

Mixed thoughts but overall positive.. I don't normally do chains, so finding a place like Mr Taco is something I always look forward to. Got there at 11:00, they actually open at 10:30 and there were 15 people in line by 11:15. Its worth the wait for your fresh cooked order. First off, I was intrigued by the Tortas...I opted for fish and that was a huge mistake. They should just take this off the menu cause its terrible. One tilapia filet on a fresh cooked 6" bun, and the whole thing was just a mess of avocado and mayonnaise, Anything else would have been better, stay away from this item. However, as bad as the execution was, all the ingredients were fresh and the bun was right out of the oven. I also tried the Carnitas (beef) and Pastor (pork) tacos on white corn tortillas. They were fantastic, especially when paired with the habanero salsa that is made fresh and HOT! Each taco was stuffed with at least 3 oz of tender shredded meat, a very generous portion. The Salsa Bar is OK, I think some of the sauces are a little thin but when you order you are served fresh corn chips that are hot and perfectly thin....you wont break a tooth on them while you sample the different salsas. Overall I give this place very high marks, and the best feature here is the lovely lady that greeted me, took my order, served my meal, then brought me a to go box....she was wonderful and I am definitely going back soon!

Amazing!

  • Steve M.

Cheap. Good. And worth the lunchtime wait. I have gone three times now and have found their only transgression being when I order salsa to go they send me home with the wrong kind. Get the glass bottle coke for a taste of coca cola with real sugar imported from Mexico.

*fart sound* I tried this place twice, it's definitely not a 4star. Kinda on the plain Jane side, nothing too flavorful..

Terrific Lunch Value Food is delicious. All very fresh. It's worth putting on the rotation.

SMH.

Surprisingly good for the location. Got there early for lunch and glad I did because the line went out the door by noon. Truly a hole in the wall but very authentic and delicious.

Taco! -K-man

Oh well.

Awesome tacos! I got carne asada and chicken fajita, both were awesome but the chicken fajita was my favorite! Very good salsa bar too!

This is the hidden gem if Jacksonville. I had the carne asada tacos and they were better than the ones I get in San Diego. Plus the portions are large. I couldn't finish it all. Highly recommended.

One of the few places in Jacksonville that taste authentic.

Taco! :)

This place is amazing. I had the veggie torta and it was just delicious. The bread was fresh and very tasty and the beans and avocado were very flavorful. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is so friendly and helpful. The only downside is that you will become addicted!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
