MOJO no.4 Urban BBQ Whiskey Bar Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Great bar. Great whiskey selection with super fair prices. The mac and cheese is the jam. And the service is always stellar (I usually eat at the bar)

Came to this Mojo for lunch and was seated right away, with quick and attentive service. I was really impressed that we managed to take a short lunch to get some delicious BBQ. Burnt ends: We started with the burnt ends appetizer and it was DELICIOUS. Smokey, crispy, and tender. I think these are a great appetizer to share, but they are a little heavy! (It's BBQ, though, so it's worth it, am I right!?) I got the Mojo Q salad, which came with pulled pork, beef brisket, and pulled chicken. YUM. This was about 50% meat and 50% salad (romaine, cucumber, tomato, and cornbread croutons) which is an amazing deal: I walked away with over half of it left. I went with the vinaigrette which was good, but I ended up just using the BBQ sauces they had on the table as dressing :) Ordered the side of corn which was a little bit of a let down for $4. I probably would not order this particular side, but the mac n cheese looked good! The one downside is that their menu didn't tell me what was in the salad, any options for dressing, nor the price of a side a la carte. This isn't a huge issue, just something to ask the server. All in all, a great BBQ joint in Riverside that I will definitely be coming back to.

Visited this Mojo with some friends. It can be rather loud, so it wasn't a good place to converse... At all. The food was decent - we had the quesadillas appetizer and split a brisket meal. Splitting was the right thing to do because they ended up giving us both our own plates with half of the meat and generous portions of the sides for no extra charge. I love it when places do this! 4 stars due to the noise. Not much they can do about it, but maybe some wall panels to absorb sound? Wood floor and brick walls (I think they were brick)... It's like a sound bounce house.

I've been here a few times, and each experience has been enjoyable, but nothing to write home about. I love ribs, and I love to make my own so much like any other bbq'er out there my opinion on things will be a bit jaded. I think the one thing that doesn't do it for me is the smoke flavor. I know that someone reading this will claim blasphemy, but I feel it's to overpowering. I most recently ordered " The Whole Hawg". If you go there you will see its a little bit of everything and although we ate just about all of it, it all seemed to have an abundant smoked flavor. Don't let my review scare you away, it's a great place and the service has always been excellent, but a review is your own interpretation of your own experience and I certainly recommend you go and see for yourself.

In this part of Florida the name MOJO BBQ no matter how the names is construed these guys are synonymous with good solid BBQ and exceptional service. I've been to several locations and I have yet to be disappointed. My last visit to Mojo's was in St. Augustine so my expectations were already set pretty high before I walked through the doors here in Jacksonville. The old brick store front with a simple painted signature across the face of the brick is genius this sets the tone even before you exit your vehicle, of course if you found this location because you "yelped" it your visit here wasn't accidental. - Hand Crafted Margaritas - we ordered and drank them by the glass but if getting these by the pitcher is an option "do it". No bottles mix here these are hand crafted with real lime juice they are magnificent. - Burnt Ends - Spend the $10.00 this is smokey beef candy. If you truly have never experience what Kansas City made famous again just "do it". These moist, cubed, candied, fatty, charred tender, tasty chunks of brisket needs nothing added so leave the sauce in the bottle and be prepared to make weird sounds while you chew this wonderful treat. - Smoked Turkey - Whether you choose the sliced plate, the salad or just a plain sandwich on a bun or garlic toast your in for a real treat I absolutely can't resist real smoked turkey. Note - on the back wall is a giant smoker this is real bbq and strictly judging the pit master on taste and quality this is awarding winning bbq.

I've been to this Mojo's twice now but mainly just to enjoy a few cocktails with friends. This last time I tried the Texas Rose which for someone who isn't a dark liquor drinker, I really enjoyed it. I highly recommend it if you're looking to try something different than Vodka but aren't sure you'll like the taste of the other stuff. We also snacked on fried pickles...always a good choice in my book, although they were a tad too greasy than I prefer. Overall, I like the vibe of Mojo no. 4 and will definitely keep it on the rotation for future outings in Avondale.

I've been a regular at this place for a while but today will be my last visit I ordered Nachos to go and was given Fries instead How fucking stupid can the cooks be can they not read!!!!????? I'm so pissed!!! They just lost a great customer will not be returning!!!!! no time for dumb ass people give a spelling and reading test on the job application next time!!!!! And when I called to let the manager on duty know he was very rude to me he didn't care at all and when I expressed how upset I was he replied I'll just put your money back on your card and hung up in my Face!!! Fuck This Place And The Manager is a Royal Ass Hole!!!!!!! The Company needs to evaluate him immediately I wouldn't want him to mange my business I guess he was pissed because I disturbed him while eating on the clock!!! I sure his order was correct....

This is my absolute FAVORITE place for BBQ in Jacksonville. I love their pulled pork and the Texas hotlinks. Their macaroni is to die for! I also am a sucker for the drunken cucumber, but if you're not a big cucumber fan, you might not like it! I love when they have live music too! The staff is wonderful as well, so you can't go wrong at MOJO.

This was the first restaurant I visited when I moved to Avondale. It's a large, open space with booths on the walls and tables in the middle and a bar on the far right. A little bit dark, which I like. And their whiskey menu is bigger than their food menu, and has some of the rarest whiskeys on the planet. Try the Pappy Van Winkle if you've got the coin. My roommate likes the fish choices, but I always go for the pulled pork sandwich, which is so big I can barely hold it, and is less than ten bucks. Waitresses are friendly and attentive. And cute. I used to be a big fan of the Sonny's chain, and David's BBQ in Gainesville, but now I'm spoiled and won't go anywhere else. And you shouldn't either.

WOW yall..just wow! My good friend just had a birthday, and she wanted to gather a bunch of us together to have some dinner before we commenced drinking at 5 points. We made a reservation for 12 and 9 showed up..they were very accomadating and put some tables together right away when the first three of us came. Our reservation was for 1830, and happy hour was still for another 30 minutes, so that was perfect. We ordered some drinks and an order of fried green tomatoes. The happy hour prices were nice, and the drink i had, a Goodbread Tea, was so good that i had three of them! The fried green tomatoes were perfection! The breading was just right, and not too thick, the chipolte sauce they served on the side a good zing and most importantly, they didnt pile a whole lot of stuff on them like alot of places are starting to. A few of us decided to split something called "the whole hawg". This includes several different cuts of meat, and 4 sides. This was an incredible deal. We got mac and cheese, green beans, mashed potatoes with gravy and sweet potatoes, all were fantastic! My friend did mention at the end of the meal that she had not read the menu, and that "whole hawg" should only include pork, not chicken beef and turkey, which this does. It turned into a hilarious story that we will all tell when we recount this wonderful dinner. I also would like to mention that our server (sorry didnt get her name) extended the courtesy of giving our later arriving friends an additional 5 minutes on the happy hour prices for drinks. nice touch!

Bring 2 other people and get the whole hog (and lots of great happy hour cocktails). You'll thank me.

This is mojos brisket very tender very juicy season to perfection this is some outstanding bbq the sea salt fries was words can't explain how good they was they give you a different variety of sauces but if you go there make sure to bring a jacket if sitting inside the nachos are good and the salad is very rich and savory

Oh, Mojo no. 4. What a HUGE disappointment after hearing great things. The good: The drinks. The drinks here are definitely delicious. The Sazerac and the Jalapeno Julep we enjoyed were had were great. I would go back for the drinks. Unfortunately, the food is the bad part. I ordered the beef brisket, my boyfriend ordered the full slab of ribs. For sides, we ordered collards, sweet potato mash & jalapeno cornbread. Both the beef brisket AND the ribs were positively the fattiest BBQ I have ever eaten. The brisket was so fatty and bland I actually sent it back. The ribs weren't much better. I'm not just talking about a little bit of fat here, either. It was pretty gross. The sides unfortunately weren't much better. The jalapeno cornbread was horribly dry, crumbly, and lacked real flavor. The collards had decent texture but lacked for taste, and the sweet potato mash was pretty gloopy. I'd go back for the drinks or their happy hour, but I doubt I'll order food again. Go somewhere else more authentic for BBQ.

  • maurice H.

It was very loud and the sides taste like they came out of a can or box blah. Please season the food. The collards were the worst. The macaroni and cheese needs help. The smoked turkey was just ok. The bbq shrimp was good though. Back to the drawing board

  • Tiffany I.

This is our go to Mojo location, and not just because of proximity. The staff is friendly and quick. The food good (I do not recommend anything off the middle section where the shrimp & grits are.) I really enjoy their nachos, fried green tomatoes, and BBQ.

Burnt Ends? Awesome Pulled Pork? Fantastic BBQ Sauces? 5 great sauces. Definitely try the Chipotle for some heat and the Sweet mixed with the mustard sauce!

Smoking bloody Mary's are THE BEST! Awesome service, food is delicious!!! Great place to watch any sporting event!

  • Hayley B.

Food is great. Drinks are delicious and fairly priced. I have been here several times and always have great service. Only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is it is VERY noisy. Definitely need to work on the acoustics, as it is hard to hear people even sitting right next to you. Otherwise, would highly recommend this place, just maybe with a smaller group.

  • Brian S.

I had only been to the St. Augustine location before this one catered the Bold City/Folio Weekly Street Party on Sunday. It is great food, good people, and this encounter is the reason I will stop by their physical location for Round 2. You should, too!

  • Melinda B.

Go on tuesday, best bar none! Sometimes the place can get too loud. Service, food and whiskey nail it everytime. Kansas burnt ends will ruin you for left, get them!

  • William S.

5 stars based on my favorite thing in my existing culinary environment. The Burnt Ends appetizer. Have had them at 3 of the Mojo locations and they are freaking amazing. So good. Worth a 2 hour drive. Love them that much. Will return to a Mojo soon. And yes the Hootie and the Blowfish concert last night was great again.

One of my favorite Mojo spots. The other would be the beach spot. Although I have never been to the other ones in Jax I find these two hard to beat. BBQ that's very hard to beat. The food and drinks here are top notch. Drinks are a bit pricey IMO, but with good company and good food I can forget about that. Great spot too right in the middle of the Avondale strip. One of my top spots in Jax.

My favorite place for BBQ in town. I love their mustard BBQ sauce, fried pickles, grits, and pulled pork. Great place for a large group gathering.

Great food, accompanied by the constant screech of wait staff dragging chairs around the restaurant. Military vet father in law couldn't abide. Will advise if hearing returns!

  • Kasey G.

I found this place to be a little overrated. My Beef Brisket came out to be cold and tough, my Green Beans were over salted, and the House Salad was the highlight of my meal, which should never be the case. Also, the nightly entertainment consists of intoxicated men shoving women who make poor choices, into the wall. This place gets very crowded and loud.

    (2)
  • Michael C.

yum! This place is smokin some of the best in jax! Biggest attraction is the Wiskey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    (4)
  • Jim S.

Our group ordered the brisket appetizer as well as the fried pickles both were very good. I would reorder the brisket burnt ends next time. I had the Mojo chicken platter, very good I recommend it. Other people ordered the ribs, and the coleslaw is a must have.

We frequent this Mojo's location at least once a month and I can honestly say we have yet to be disappointed. We always get seated right away (there are plenty of tables in here) and I do love the covered patio, since I try and sit outside whenever possible! Creatures of habit, the Fried Green Tomatoes are our go-to app. (I grew up in the midwest and fried green tomatoes were a staple for dinner in the summers.) I prefer them not overly battered, with just a bit of spice. Mojo's does them up right, just enough cornmeal to let the tangy taste of the tomatoes shine through. They have always been fresh and I did ask our server about them last time we were in and he let us know they are sourced locally. Yes! And the chipotle ranch sauce... just wow. It's really nothing fancy but dang is it good. I always order extra for my fries, I could seriously go swimming in that stuff. Just enough heat to make your beer go down nicely and always makes me sweat a little! We also tried the Sweet and Smokey rib tips our last visit. Huge order, drenched in Mojo's sweet BBQ sauce and greasy goodness. They were good, but I think I prefer the Kansas City Burnt ends a little better. You can never go wrong ordering the beef brisket or pork shoulder, but we did want to try the North Carolina pulled pork. Our server was really awesome and brought us a sample with a little side of the red slaw. We were sold!! Moist and delicious, I will be ordering again and the red slaw really surprised me! After gorging on the 2 apps, we let us server know we were going to share a 2 meat platter and without asking, he automatically separated the meal for us. Nice touch. :) The collard greens are my favorite side... cooked southern style and spicy, and YAY they bust out the Louisiana Hot pepper vinegar! I love mixing their sweet and chipotle sauces and my man is a fan of the mustard and mojo mix. A couple of local brews on tap and as others have mentioned, a massive whiskey selection. The only complaints I can thin of is the chairs at the tables inside aren't the most comfortable (another reason to sit outside or at a booth) and the dirty rice on our last visit was a little dry. Other than that, a solid go to for good BBQ.

3.5 stars. It's good but not the best BBQ in town (I prefer Monroe's Smokehouse BBQ on Beach and 4Rivers on Baymeadows). The location is casual, loud/echo-y when packed and the whiskey bar portion is expansive and comfortable with plenty of seats. Service is always very attentive and friendly. I've eaten here at least a dozen times and it's always good, but not amazing. As far as the sauces go, the chipotle BBQ sauce is my favorite, followed by the runnier and tangy mustard. I typically opt for the pulled pork platter, substituting the Texas toast for Mojo's signature jalapeno corn bread (which is often on the dry side but still tastier than Texas toast). The sides are hit or miss. Sometimes they're good (I'm looking at you smoked corn and mac 'n cheese) and others sometimes have been off (green beans, collard greens). As for the starters the fried pickle chips are good as is the hummus. Worth noting: the banana pudding is delicious. The happy hour is good and features several local craft draft beers.

UPDATE: This issue was quickly and professionally handled in less than 24 hours. I could not be more impressed with their response, which included a personal phone call from the general manager. I would like to start by noting I live within a five minute drive to this restaurant and have been there multiple times. While the food is indeed good, the service is probably the worst in the area. On our most recent visit my husband ordered a brisket dinner to go. When the hostess opened the meal he noted that it didn't look like the full meal to which she replied it was 6.5oz-7oz of meat. We paid and left the restaurant. We have a kitchen scale and to assure my husband that everything was fine, I weighed the meat. To my surprise the meat weighed 4.5oz. Recognizing that mistakes happen, we called back and spoke to the manager. My husband began the conversation by noting we frequently visit the restaurant and like the food, but there was an error. THIS MANAGER was unapologetic, condescending, and argumentative. She basically blamed the hostess and my husband for the error, but noted that the next time we visited she would give us an extra slice of meat. I assure you my husband was ONLY looking for empathy and apology, and was completely befuddled by her tone. Sadly, we won't be visiting this spot anymore because bad service happens to be a reoccurring theme at this establishment.

This is the best BBQ I've ever had hands down and I'm from North Carolina! All of the meat is just packed with flavor to the point that I (who puts sauce on everything) don't even need sauce...but I still use sauce because they sauce is the bomb diggity too! They have great sides and great appetizers too and their portions are a good size. I've tried everything here from their onion rings (amazing!) to their chicken wings to their salads to their salmon dinner. It's ALL GOOD! I would have to say my two least favorite things on the menu are the cornbread (never been a fan of cornbread) and the grits (only on days that they make them too runny). Other than that, the shrimp and grits are still delish! Highly recommend this place...it's a must try!

My favorite place for a Mono salad and pulled pork. Have food allergies sucks but the servers here always help me make the right choices and steer me away from basically eating yummy, delicious stuff that amounts to rat poison in my body. They are pretty busy but always staffed well so not much waiting going on. Two things I have to prepare myself for when going; the first is the noise. This has got to be the worst acoustics in the history of restaurants. I literally stop talking to my family because I get sick of yelling..truly yelling. The second is the sound of the chairs being dragged during set up and break down for large parties. It echos the sound of metal on cement...my ears hurt. Would be nice if they would pick the chairs up instead of drag them. Sounds petty but when you go, youll remember this review. Great service, awesome Q, but loud!

The burned ends were out of this world!! Sooooo goooood. The bloody mary was smoked and was one of the best ive ever had!

  • Jack B.

We eat here once a week, its that good! We normally get the wings, grilled, the burnt ends, and a Mojo Q Salad which is a salad with all of the meats on top. Great staff, great service, great food. It really has become a part of the Avondale neighborhood. I've never had a bad meal at Mojo #4 and we are regulars there.

    (5)
  • Joe K.

In this case, you get what you pay for. There are few places in Jax that I would consider good BBQ, and Mojos is one of them. It's a bit more expensive (definitely better than the paper table cloth and no a/c decor of most BBQ joints) and well worth the price. I've been to the beach and Avondale locations. Both were great. I appreciate the choice of different sauces and types of BBQ as I just moved from Texas and long for the melt-in-your-mouth pulled pork and brisket. Mojo's does it right and could even experiment with some more bold menu choices to make this place a 5 star rating.

  • Michelle G.

Love this place! We went on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch, and the service was super fast! The macaroni & cheese was delicious - I could have eaten bowls of that and nothing else - but I also enjoyed the Mojo Club sandwich (huge!) and the mashed potatoes. My cousin raved about this place having awesome southern food and it did not disappoint!

    (5)
  • Susan B.

The Mojo food is excellent. Burnt ends, pulled pork, pepper vinegar for the collards, superb sauces. The ambiance at the beach location is much better than this one, though. We ate, and it was noisy and the staff seemed distracted. Next time we're jonesing for Mojo we'll go out to the beach.

Yes!!! Awesome service. For dinner the young male waiter was so nice and attentive. No cover for special events, I was given a second drink bc my first wasn't "up to standards". Great first experience, will be back.... We came during the World Cup and happy hour& with a kid. We got three meals, drinks, and was pleased to tip well!

  • Carole Z.

Ate at this Mojos location for the first time tonight. Our waitress was fantastic. As soon as I asked her if they had any Gluten Free cider, she took the initiative to bring me a list telling me what items on the menu contained Gluten, and when I ordered a side salad as one of my sides, she told me right away she'd have them hold the croutons. I've never had a waitress so in the ball and helpful with my Gluten Free diet. The food, as at all Mojos was very good. Will definitely be back!

  • Luckie D.

BBQ is sooo subjective but I found Mojo to be well within the bounds of very good BBQ. The ribs were done low and slow with a smoky very tender easy off the bone finish. The pulled pork was quite tasty as well although I couldn't quite get on board with the sauces. The collards were a tad sweet with large stems I'd prefer were left out during the cutting process but still enjoyable. All in all a very strong effort and worth stopping again. Add t this the al fresco dining option and strong bar selections and you have a real winner with Mojo No#4

  • Anna H.

First time at this location, I like the beach place better. Now the rest. It was not very busy when we arrived but our server was evidently at the mercy of the bartender who was busy so drinks were slow to arrive at the table. But our person was pleasant and she did everything possible to keep us happy. Fried Green Tomatoes bland, tasteless and a tad too hard for me but the BBQ Shrimp was the good good. I stayed with my fave the brisket and was not disappointed. Moist not overcooked with just the right amount of fat. Tried the grits this time and congratulated myself for a correct choice. Tasted the Jalapeno Corn Bread, a little in the dry side and nothing popped from the peppers. Could not get excited by the desert menu, so another glass of wine was in the cards. My excitement meter only hit about a quater to half way so it will be a spell before I get back here.

Literally stumbled on restaurant and was enticed in by the delicious smell. What a lucky find! The chicken nachos, brisket end and spicy shrimp appetizers were delicious and could have made the whole meal. The shrimp and cheesy garlic grits were the best I've ever had and coupled with the mashed sweet potatoes was an awesome combination. I'll go back there again and again and again until I've of exhausted the menu.

  • Eryn M.

I'm not the biggest barbecue fan, but Mojo's is pretty awesome. I've had the brisket and hot links, and they're both delicious. The many sauce options are on the table, which is how I prefer it, so you can pick and choose what kinds and how much you want. I also had Mojo's at a recent blues festival in Jacksonville Beach and they didn't disappoint. I'm not a coleslaw fan, but that was the only option at the festival and even it was great. Mojo's is definitely on my Jacksonville short list.

Hands down, the best catering service in town!!!!! Sherry organized our event and everything was absolutely wonderful! I didn't have to worry or stress out. According to our toughest food critics- the guest- the food was great, hot and fresh. The meat wasn't dry and the service was on point. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to friends.

We split the blackened Mahi it was excellent, also the sides are really good, fried green tomatoes and onion rings for appetizers, definitely a great place to come back to if you like BBQ!

Oh my god. I have nothing but fantastic things to say about this place. Service: excellent. Our waitress was perfect--cheerful, enthusiastic, present but not on top of us. Drinks: I ordered their bloody Mary And it was awesome! I love bloody marys and this was one of the best I've ever had. Plus since it was happy hour it was only $6. I also ordered sangria. A bit different than expected--less wine tasting and much more fruit. Regardless i loved it. Food: I ordered the fried chicken with gravy. AMAZING. Chicken was perfect and gravy was delicious. I had the Mac and cheese and the mashed sweet potatoes as my sides. again AMAZING. Can't wait to go back!!!

BBQ yumminess. Yeah I just made that word up but it fits. The BF and I have gone on several occasions. We've been several times to just listen to some great music (they have live bands from time to time) and have a few drinks and had a fantastic time. The mojitos rock! And we've been for dinner several times. We usually get the Whole Hawg. Ribs, turkey, chicken and sausage with 2 sides each. Get their dirty rice-yumminess. Mac-n-cheese-pretty yummy. The meats are smoky yumminess! Go there and eat some yumminess!!

With the caveat that I am not a big BBQ/Meat Eater, this place was pretty good. It smells delicious, and the locals I was there with could not stop recommending things on the menu that they liked. I opted for the "sides platter", which consisted of some yummy mac n cheese, corn, collards, and a salad. It was VERY filling, and a good value.

This is my favorite BBQ place in FL. Nothing like it out here in CA. I think they should come out to the West and show everyone how it's done! Best brisket hands down. Their turkey is always moist and flavorful. You don't even need any sauce, even though it's amazing too. My favorite thing though oddly enough, were their green beans.

I love this place. We had a great server. I had the blackened salmon drenched in their mojo sauce. My doing. Mac and cheese BBQ corn All delicious

It's really hard to impress a Texan with barbecue, but I'm sold. I had a great time when I visited for dinner a few weeks ago. We walked right in, got a great table, and enjoyed the atmosphere. I want to start by saying that this would have been a five star review, except for a couple of things. The good: Kid friendly, nice service, and nice atmosphere. The deconstruction, open concept with a rustic, western flare was really nice to see and I enjoyed the decorations. The food was pretty good. I had the two meat plate with hot links and brisket, collard greens, and home made mac and cheese. The sausage hot link was nice and spicy, just how I like it. The collard greens were sweet and spicy, maybe with star anise or nutmeg. The Texas toast was perfectly buttered. The not so good: The brisket had a layer of fat and was still a little dry, leading me to believe that it might not have been cooked slow enough. While the brisket had the perfect smoke ring, I'm used to it being a little more on the moist side and having no fat left to cut off. The mac and cheese had bread crumbs, which I'm not really keen on. I'm still a huge fan, and I'll be back for sure! I can't wait to try more menu options!

Awesome BBQ. Nice selection of a few local brews. Good service. Reasonable prices. Definitely worth a stop for dinner!

    (4)
  • J L.

Good barbecue and macaroni, but kind of expensive. I liked the brisket - and this is a Texan saying that. hot links are tasty but not hot (fine by me but dont be dissappointed) You pay a bit for the nice decor and huge selection of whiskey. I would come again.

This and 4 Rivers are the only BBQ places I'll eat at. I'm not a huge fan of bbq but with the 4 sauces you can choose from on the table. I have to say yes to Mojo's #4 every time someone suggests it. My favorite things to order are the friend green tomatoes and the chicken nachos. The chicken nachos are so good as a meal. I don't like sharing my appetizers when they're that tasty!!

    (4)
  • James D.

Food on point. Whiskey aplenty. Local brews on tap. This place rocks!!

    (4)
  • Tom H.

Pro tip: get the Kansas City Burnt Ends appetizer for max flavor. I usually have this with a side salad and go home happy. Service is always friendly, and if the rest of the barbecue dishes could use the flavor boost from a little more "bark" I don't mind: that means there is more for the appetizer.

  • Diana M.

I haven't had anything here that wowed me, the food was good but not as awesome as I expected. What I did like (and what bumped this to a 4-star review) is their ambiance and their late night live musing. Their drink list didn't hurt, either!!

  • Khristopher B.

A lot of people come to Mojo's for the food and, at the end of the day, that's the only thing to rave about at this place. The atmosphere is only so-so and the wait staff is just competent. But the food is definitely kudos. I say that only with the caveat that, if you don't like BBQ, this isn't your place. But if you're into brisket and smoked turkey and things like that, Mojo's does it well. Even though it's a BBQ place, the side dishes (namely the corn and the macaroni & cheese) get the job done as well. Newcomers are steered toward the gigantic fried onion rings. I'm not a huge onion ring fan, but they're good enough to make me nibble on them before my food comes out. Aside from the food, another round of applause should go to Mojo's because their outdoor dining area is neatly tucked away from the foot traffic on St. Johns Avenue, which is more than I can say for nearby The Brick. I've been to Mojo's several times and I'm always partial to the shrimp salad (which never comes with enough shrimp if you ask me) or the brisket platter. If you get ribs, make sure you try all of the BBQ sauces on the table.

I would recommend anyone in the Jacksonville area to come here if you haven't already...... Food is amazing and extremely fresh, the servers are on top of their game, and the atmosphere is just right. If you need some where with good whiskey and brisket, come here, and make sure ask for Sandy, she is excemplorary!!!!

The fourth store in the Mojo family, this one is much like the others in that it is somewhat unlike any of the others. Situated on St. Johns Avenue in Avondale, parking may be a bit of a problem, especially if this newly opened gem becomes as popular as the other locations in the area. The menu, while maintaining some of the basics, is different, both in content, and layout. It's presented as a sheet on a stiff card; don't forget to check the back for the drink specials. Mojo No. 4 bills itself as an "Urban BBQ and Whiskey Bar", and there must be at least 50 choices of Whiskey and Scotch to select from. Don't worry, white liquor drinkers, they have rum and vodka and gin, as well. Also, the on-draft selections are nice, featuring a couple of local brews, as well as regional and national brands. The interior is a bit dark, and finished in earth tones, and hard surfaces. This location sports an outside porch with six or so tables, a nice touch for pleasant days. The prices seem to be a bit higher here than at the other locations, but I haven't been to one of the other stores in a few weeks, so it might just be normal price creep. I tried the butter-bean hummus - wow! I'll have to head back when I don't have to return to work, and try some of the various whiskey and scotch.

Food is awesome and the Whiskey is the best....If they have the sound because the walls are stone and if they have a band on weekend the music just bounces and makes it hard to enjoy unless you sit outside. But what a great addition to the RAP area!!!! Kudos

I've eaten here frequently and have found the food to be consistently delicious! Best BBQ in Jacksonville. The atmosphere can be a bit loud at times, but that is expected from such a popular spot.

I have heard about this place for along time now. So tonight one of my favorite bands were playing here so why not. I got there and the place was packed and very loud. You weren't going to talk across the table tonight. I decided to try some of the bbq fair. I did the burnt ends and some rings. Now the burnt end should be very tender being the point part of the brisket. You smoke the brisket cut off the point and chunk it up and throw it back into the smoke. Well they didn't. I think they used the flat which is the less fatty part. It is not as tender and tends to dry out pretty quickly. The rings were pretty good and so was the dipping sauce. The breading was a little thick for me but then that's why they make chocolate ice cream. Everyone don't like vanilla. The band rocked as they usually do. So in all I think I will return but it will probably be when The Firewater Tent Revival is playing again.

This place is going to do well. The food was better than most, if not all BBQ restaurants in the area. The bar was large with a wide variety of both Bourbon and Scotch whiskeys, and good beers, especially with BBQ (Shiner Bock). I consider myself to be quite critical when it comes to authentic barbecue. Been competing in BBQ cookoffs for a few years now and recently our team won grand champion in Haines City's Ribs on the Ridge tournament. Mojo is as close to competition BBQ as you will find in Jacksonville in my opinion. They have the balls to serve brisket, and they do it well.

I'm not a whiskey drinker, but the whiskey selection looks quite large and, from what I hear, is good. I go for the BBQ, which is delicious, especially with the variety of sauces at each table. I'm a fan of the pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese on the side, though I've also had the salmon and the corn, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. If you like to take home leftovers (I always do), the friendly waiters/waitresses can provide little containers so you can enjoy your favorite sauces at home with your meal. Also, as an added bonus, this restaurant/whiskey bar is just a short walk away from the Florida Creamery...

I've yet to find something on the menu that disappoints. The service and food are always great. The burnt ends are by far my favorite. I could probably eat three servings while I sit there drinking from a crazy assortment of whiskey. True BBQ can be eaten without sauce and Mojo is the only place I've been able to do that.

I enjoyed my visit to this particular Mojo location. The service was great. Our server (Richard) was attentive, got our orders delivered to us quickly and refilled our drinks non-stop. I got the smoked turkey and beef brisket combo, with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese as my sides. The meat was cooked well and flavorful; the best turkey and brisket I've ever had. I love mac and cheese as my sides wherever I eat, and this is by far one of the better Mac and cheese I've had as well. The mashed potatoes was also great. I'm not a fan of mashed potatoes in general, but Mojo's I liked a lot. I would definitely come back and recommend Mojo's to everyone.

You won't be disappointed with any BBQ choice, but here's a tip on the grits. Avoid like the plague!

Didn't have time to try the food, but it seems reasonably priced for the portion sizes. I did however manage to try some of their whiskey. They've got about 80ish whiskeys on the menu & I was happy to try a few of them. They should look into getting some small batch whiskeys for specials or something. I'll definitely be checking it out again soon. I've got my eye on some ribs & brisket...

I'm definitely a fan on Mojo No. 4. I think my Handsome Man and I come here three times a month, at least. I love the chicken salad, mac and cheese, banana pudding, and smoked turkey. I could do without the jalapeño corn bread and mashed potatoes. Our service is always great and the outdoor patio is perfect for your pup! I don't recommend you drive across town to eat here, but if you live in Avondale, there's no reason not to try it!

Good place to have a late dinner, a drink, and watch a show on a Friday night. Awesome barbecue, good selection of beers on tap, mind-boggling array of whiskey, and good service. Staff is friendly, atmosphere is just the right amount of sultry. Great art on the walls :)

I am from Texas, the home of smoked beef brisket and this is some of the best brisket to be had if you like Texas stile smoked brisket. All four stores have great brisket. They also represent the best of BarBQ from other parts of the US quite well from Memphis ribs to Carolina pulled pork. This was my first trip to this Mojo's location and as always it was outstanding. This location as do all the others has it's own twists but the meat of menu is the same. This is not my favorite of the four locations but the feel matches the neighborhood and the decore is a bit sleeker and a bit more western. If you like Bar-BQ then I suggest Mojo's because they do it and do it right. You might find better brisket in Texas but not by much.

Ok I dont usually rate on service, but their service is spot on from the second we walked in and the moment we left. We went twice in less than 24 hours, first night for whiskey and second fathers day for lunch. Now for the food: 1. Fried Green Tomatoes 2. Spareribs 3. Beef Brisket 4. Coleslaw and french fries We love the Sweet BBQ sauce and the MOJO sauce. Fried Green Tomatoes the batter was peppery and tasty, I like my tomatoes totally covered in batter, this one was a little flaky but the flavors make up for that. Beef brisket was really nice and tender. The spareribs weren't the fall off the bone type, but it wasn't tough meat either it was right in the middle. You get a real nice smokey taste. For Whiskey the Fireball was a nice surprise, I'm not a whiskey fan this Fireball taste just like the candy.

Always a great experience. Good food, prompt service, good selection of local beers and tons of whiskey. They do an outstanding job and are a great addition to the neighborhood.

My best friend and I went here for lunch. First off, we both ordered sweet tea, waitress bought us unsweetened both times. Then said there were other drinks we can choose from:(. Are you kidding me??? So we asked for liquid sugar :( they don't have any but offer to make some with hot water, lololol FUNNY! So we just said to bring sugar packets and not ask for refills on our drinks. Secondly, We both ordered small ribs, different sides. Unfortunately the barbecue sauces just came out the fridge and were cold as ice and were not as yummy as I thought they would but ended up eating the ribs bare. Thirdly, i asked for extra cinnamon topping for my sweet potato mash and got extra pecans galore, yuck! The service is crummy at this Mojo's. Seemed like everyone was too tired. Ummmm its only 11:00, wake up. Ribs are great. Sweet tea is unsweetened no matter how you order it. Very disappointed!

In my day job as a residential contractor, I had been working near the Historic Avondale District in Jacksonville for the last half of the year. On days when the wind was right, we would often catch a whiff of lunch cooking at one of the many restaurants that line Riverside Avenue. Sometimes it was the sweet scent of smoking wood that teased our nostrils. I knew it came from Mojo #4, and one sunny Friday made a point to stop in for lunch. Like most establishments in the area, the facade of the restaurant is simple and straightforward, but it does include a covered outdoor dining area. We opted to sit inside, which by contrast was dark and noisy. A full bar lines one wall of the big dining room, but there are also a good number of regular tables throughout. "Urban barbecue" refers more to the atmosphere of the restaurant than the style of cooking. The inside feels a little like a blues club, and tables are served by waiters. Although the menu has many southern/soul options besides barbecue, I wasn't too disappointed in ordering the North Carolina pork and dry rubbed spareribs. It seemed like both meats spent a little time on a smoker but were finished in an oven. The pork was chopped fine and covered in the traditional vinegar and black pepper sauce, which was good but it overpowered any smokiness of the meat. The ribs were tender, and the well flavored rub took on a little smoke though the meat didn't get much. Sides of baked beans and macaroni and cheese were generously sized and both top notch. Along with a drink this lunch was over $12. It was worth the splurge once, and good enough I would probably return if it wasn't so loud. Overall the food was good quality, but you can probably find more authentic barbecue for less somewhere else.

As a New Yorker-turned-snowbird who is usually a 7-days-a-week-diner-outer in the big apple, I was completely outraged at the lack of professionalism and appreciation shown by the management at Mojo's in Avondale. As I have heard others say, "LOVE the food. HATE the management.". Definitely do not EVER host a big party at this place. Firstly, I called at 10am to reserve a table for my event, of 25 people. We arrived on time, and nothing was set up. We had to wait, and the manager came to me explaining "there are no rsvps, there is only 'preferred seating'". Then WHY was his hostess who took my "reservation" not trained to tell callers such things? The tables were gathered after 20 minutes, so that problem was fixed finally, but many members of my party had to stand while we waited. Not a good look considering the place was nowhere near packed, but tables before us were definitely NOT seated in accordance with the restaurant expecting such a big party (patch-worked around). Secondly, dinner took forever to come out. Ok, that happens, big deal. But, no apologies after complaints from my party (who, by the way, are a group of happy people usually). Lastly, at the end of our dinner, I wanted to buy everyone the table shots, as a 'thank you' for coming. BUT ALAS!!!! The manager would not honor discounted shots for our party of TWENTY FIVE people, shots that were only 45 minutes away from being happy hour prices of $3 ("I have no way to discount them, it's up to the system" = B.S.!!!!!!) I brought 24 fellow patrons to him, of which the manager exclaimed "most of your party already knew about us"!!! Sadly, I will not be frequenting this place as often as I dreamed of, and recommend that you not support somewhere run by such an ungrateful and unprofessional amateur. When he gets fired, I will return more often. Until then, I will only go if forced, or to see friends who are servers there (whom I pity now, knowing they have to work under such a person). I will say, however, that the food is always consistent. And the sweet tea never old. That granted one additional star. Until I am forced to eat at your establishment, adieu, Mojo.

My favorite BBQ joint in Jacksonville! I've had just about everything on their unique menu at this point and you really can't go wrong-- it's all good. It doesn't hurt that it's a whiskey bar, either :)

Not your dad's BBQ. Unique takes on BBQ classics. Smoky, luscious meats and flavorful sides dishes. Awfully noisy, but cool atmosphere. Great selection of beers and whisky.

Nothing special about this place as it's pretty overpriced for a BBQ joint in Jacksonville. The food isn't bad, but it's certainly nothing special. I'd rather go somewhere else if I'm going to get BBQ next time.

Okay, first of all this will not be a full review, but I feel compelled to share. I went there early on Saturday, around 5 O'clock. Was not in the mood for the weekend date crowd. I just wanted some seriously good brisket and based on the other Yelp reviewers, this was the place to go. The decor was a comfortable, wide open dining room with a long bar along the wall with rows and rows of mostly whiskey. We were led to a booth and seated. The first thing that I noticed was the music. Really bad 80's hair band stuff. We asked the waitress to turn it down a bit and she did so immediately. We asked for samples of the brisket and pork shoulder because at 11 and 12 dollars for a plate, we wanted to make sure. The samples were delicious. The brisket was glistening with fat sweat and had a beautiful 1/4" smoke ring, the pork was melt in your mouth tender. We ordered a plate of each which also came with two sides. I ordered the mac and cheese and the smoked yellow corn. My friend ordered the bbq beans and fries. What seemed like a promising dinner then turned bad. I will not go into details, but I will say this. This is the first time I have had anyone in management be so sincere and heartfelt about what happened. And, no, it had nothing to do with untold oddities found in the food or bad service. There were disappointments in what was brought out. That being said though, the waitstaff and management at this place should be cloned and used at every other restaurant in the world. I will be visiting again next week to give the full "food" review. I will say this, however, the banana pudding is out of this world.
