This was my first time here and it will not be my last. Food was prepared to perfection. Banana Pudding is must try.

This is the original Mojo Barbecue location and still keeps true to the BBQ, despite what some "elite" tagged reviewers may experience, as a regular since opening in March of 2003, I have experienced the best and worst growing pains, and they are still holding it down here, even with the occasional slip. Beef brisket, pulled pork, and the buttermilk fried chicken with white sawmill style gravy are my go to dishes. The macaroni and cheese still rivals my other favorite BBQ joints around town. Onion rings are probably the best in town, the collards are kicked up just right, and all of their sides have their strengths. When their kitchen is on their A game, this joint is 5 star good. The noise factor is an issue for some people, but it just adds to the atmosphere with the classic blues music piped in while you chow down. Seriously, try this place out, it's among my top 3 joints in town, and hits close to being number 1 more often than not.

This seems to be a knock off from Mojo #4 Whiskey Bar & Grill. I say that because a few years back the signage was different and the food was great! I was skeptical because the sign on the building didn't look like the trademark Mojo #4 signage. I went in anyway because I had a hardcore craving BBQ. The food wasn't bad, and nor was it great. It was bbq alright but it just didn't taste like what I was used too. There are far too many amazing bbq restaurants around to go back here. Especially with the service that I was given.

Eaten here about 10 times. Never had a bad experience, but the BBQ is clearly in the solid 3-star range. Brisket is dry, sides are underwhelming. Portions are not particularly generous. Service can be hit or miss. Prices aren't cheap given the portions, quality, service, and ambiance. Awkward spacing, poor lighting, TGI Friday's type of decor consisting of old tin signs.

My first and it will not be my last. The barbecue is awesome here. I really like it. I ordered the two-meat combo and picked the beef brisket and North Carolina pork. Their beef brisket was so tender and moist. You only need a fork to slice through the meat and with ease. The North Carolina pork is exactly how I remembered Carolina bbq, vinegary flavor. The taste was perfect. For the sides, I paired the meats with collard greens and green beans. They looked and tasted fresh. Fast service too. We ordered our food and devoured them within thirty minutes. That's nice especially if you're on an hour lunch break limit. The place gets packed quickly. I would recommend getting there a little early to avoid the rush. It wasn't that bad yet when we pulled in at 11:40 AM.

This restaurant is definitely the most expensive bbq joint I've ever been. The food quality is very good the service was good it's just very expensive and portion size is very small at least for the brisket.

Lunch time with my friend Jimmy P. I am having North Carolina Pork with mash potatoes with gravy and green beans. Pork: is good, never tried this style before, is a little spicy. Comes with a cabbage dip, very tasty. Mash potatoes: one of the best in town. Simply delicious. Green beans: perfectly cooked with this tasty smoked flavor. Overall, completely satisfied. The best: the mash potatoes. The service was fast despite many customers. The missing: TVs and better illumination. If you like to watch tv while you eat, or do not like dark places, this place might not be for you.

Almost every time is it excellent. Sometimes it's dry but I love the Onion rangs and the burnt ends. The wings are excellent if they are not dried up. It is too loud normally and hard to talk when a group. Chicken fried chicken kicks but.

As much as I LOVE your food, the people who make it are VERY inconsistant as far as portions (the university blvd location ONLY). I go there all the time and have complained before about this as some of them might recognise my name and my order (Nachos). Sometimes there are a lot of Nachos and a little meat (which is an absoulte rip off) and other times they give me a ton of meat and a ton of cheese and normal amount of nachos (which makes you lose money). I always get the same response, "were sorry but we do weigh it and it should be the same every time". IT IS NOT. They offer to put more on if im shorted, but I always decline because all I'm asking for is consistancy (and I tell them that). How much is the meat amount supposed to weigh anyway, no cusotmer knows so why do i care about that answer unless they weigh it in front of me? Tonight I ordered something else, the small dinner with brisket and pork. I received 2 slice of brisket and about 2 or 3 ounces of pork which was about a small palm full (by estimate) FOR $17! I am unsure if this is a normal portion and the server was fantastic about it, but I got the same old answer, they do weigh it. If this is the normal portion for $17, I feel ripped off but in a whole new way. Not by an employees mistake but by Mojos. Currently my boss (who used to buy from Mojos on Beach) boycotted ordering your catering because she received in her words HORRIBLE customer service from those guys. That REALLY stinks because we cant get the catering anymore! I will continue to order food from here until I just break and boycott you myself because I feel you have some great employees like the host and the guy server who worked the closing shift today (8/25/15). Some of them do care but others are NOT doing their job. If that means sometimes I wont get a huge amount of meat in my Nachos, THATS FINE, I dont need them lol. I just need consistancy in portions and possibly even portion amounts stated in the menu (which can be great for marketing). I am going to post this review to yelp, google and facebook. If you want to contact me please send me an email and I will respond with my info. Thanks for reading.

I really love MoJo bbq, we come here and always start with the wings appetizer, they are first smoked, rotisserie style, then flash fried ,no sauce and they are so good! Then I really like the brisket also it is delish, not too fatty with alot of flavor. They have a smoked corn side that is good also.

I normally don't write reviews but I had such a good sliced brisket sandwich I had to give it 4 stars... also, the spicy BBQ sauce had great consistency and flavor. I took my meal to-go so I can't speak on their service but my order was ready when I arrived which is all I require. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for brisket done right.

When we travel we search out two of our favorite foods, BBQ and Mexican. Through all of our travels MOJO, has to be one of the best BBQ we have had. The atmosphere is family friendly and everything we ordered was delviered to our table hot and delicous, from the onion rings to ice cream desrest we were not disapponted! Most BBQ places mess up chicken and over cook it till it's dry to the bone, not at MOJO....is was the juciest and tender! We will definetly search them out again and visit other locations when in the area!

Yelp reviews had me drooling for some of those Kansas City Burnt Ends. I love brisket, and what could be better than "crusty outer edges of beef brisket?" I started my trip home a little early so that I would have time try them before hopping on a plane back to Memphis. I was not disappointed. They were meaty chunks of burnt goodness. Despite being "burnt" they were not dry at all. In fact, they were quite fatty and moist. I loved those ends... after I devoured the first order, I seriously considered getting a second order to take home with me. I didn't... I should have.

Came here a few times for lunch, never disappointed. All homemade sides and slow cooked meats. Cant go wrong with the potato salad and Mac n cheese. Can't wait for the one in Gainesville to open!

An update to my last review - After posting my last review of Mojo's, I did receive a personal message from the Dir of Ops, apologizing for the experience I had and offered to make it right. And after I replied, they sent me a couple of gift certificates. So while the initial experience itself wasn't great, in the end, they did do right on replacing the cost of the meal.

BowLegz closing early on Sunday may have been a sign. BBQ fix needed fixin and found MOJO. Ordered whole hawg sample box - got a good bit of the menu so know what to get next time. Ribs - good tasty and meaty, chicken was excellent dark and white 1/4's were both moist - dark had bit more flavor I thought. Skipped turkey and got extra sausage - good choice- nice snap not greasy oily or dry and nice spicy kick not overpowering. Pulled pork was really good also and the only thing in box that really needed saucing - NC vinegar did fine. Only disappoint was brisket - bit too lean and dry side for me but still tasted good. Sides were above average - sweet potato scuffle really liked and the greens also.

Excellent BBQ. Everything is smoky....even the ranch dressing. Had the pulled pork and chicken. Moist, tender and flavorful. Service was great. The house sauce isn't bad but the chipotle sauce is full of flavor with a nice kick. The blues atmosphere is a nice touch to go along with the great food.

You know what, being from the south, I'm not a huge fan of BBQ, but one day I had a hankering for some and decided to come here for dinner. Let me tell you, Mojo may just have converted me to loving BBQ! I ended up getting chicken, mac n cheese, and the sweet potato mash. OH-MY-GOODNESS! I want to go back just for the sweet potato mash! It's so great. I can honestly eat a tub of that stuff its so great. The cinnamon and pecan with the sweet potato....mmmmmmm! delish! haha alright, but besides that greatness, I enjoyed munching on my love's ribs and I apparently have to go back for the wings. All in all, I enjoyed myself and left with a belly full. All you should heed from this review is really GET THE SWEET POTATO MASH. Enjoy!

I'm back because it's good food and I like their sweet potato smash with nuts on top. Taste better than most places but still NOISY as you could imagine and still costs more than other places... however, it's really close to my place and it's convenient. Got the brisket sandwich tonight

Wasn't that great. The sweet tea was banging tho! The fried pickles were just that, nothing special. When the food came it was cold all of it, my husbands, mine and my sons. We were disappointed because it took 45 minutes to come to us. The waitress and manager was very nice and welcoming they are the only good things about this night other than the sweet tea.

This place is awesome! I'm not from Jacksonville so I checked around to see who had pretty good reviews and then tried it for myself. The food is wonderful! The sides are just like the ones your mom makes! The meat and sauce is great. I tried the turkey and it was delicious and is now one of my favorites when I do get to come here. I liked it so much that I used them to cater an event we were having. Sherri who runs that part is awesome! Everyone raved about the food and they were so easy to deal with. It made for a smooth event on our end! if in the area you should try this place!

Great food, good service. I had the fried pickles, ribs, and pulled pork. All of them were excellent. Personally I like pickle spears rather than chips, but these were crunchy and were quite good.

The food was very delicious. There were only a couple things I did not like about the meal. I Had a taste of my friends Collard greens and they were very bland. Probably the most bland I've ever had. I am also not a fan of the Jalepeño cornbread either. Besides those two gripes the meal was fantastic. The ribs were so good. The brisket was very good as well though they were kinda room temperature and not piping hot how I like it. Our server was very nice, he could have visited our table a little more being that it wasn't busy in there at all. I had to flag another server down to ask if she could call our server over to our table so we could get refills. That wasn't a big deal though. Overall it was very good and Mojo BBQ is still my favorite.

Best BBQ around. A little pricey tho. I love the BBQ chicken salad. Love the jazzy/blues atmosphere. It is a little loud so prob not the best place to have lunch with the ladies.

Really good fried green tomatoes, Mac and cheese and great assortment of flavorful BBQ sauces. The meat isn't anything special on its own though, but with the sauce it's good. Expensive for dinner though - it was $54 (with tip) for my husband, son and I to eat. $12 per entree for us, $7 for his kids mean and $9 for the appetizer. $2.75 for a drink. It was a good experience but nothing to rave about.

Very disappointing. Mojos came highly recommended and did not remotely come close to meeting expectations. I was in a party of 3, I ordered the Beef Brisket dinner, for $16 I received 4 thin, cold, bland, dry slices of brisket. My sides tasted like they had spent several days under a warming light. The other members of my party also received cold and dry meat and nasty side dishes. Overall I'd give the food 1 star. As bad and overpriced as the food was, the service was great. Our waiter (I think Tyler) took good care of us, brought everything out quickly, and refilled our drinks without being asked. he seemed like a great guy. The other servers all helped each other out, brought food to each others tables and refilled drinks for any table regardless of whether it was their table. Great attitude and teamwork. I give the service team 5 stars. The atmosphere was okay, they blast blues over the speakers, and have music related décor (primarily blues as far as I saw). Clean inside, nothing special, but a good vibe. I'd give the environment 2 1/2 stars. Since the food was so bad and overpriced I have to give it 1 star overall. The food was hands down the WORST bbq I've had in Florida. Even the chain restaurants had better food. I see from other recent reviews hat others have had similar experiences, and the older reviews are more positive.

Pretty good bbq. The pork was a little dry but it had good flavor. The chicken and brisket was spot on. I enjoyed the Mac n cheese because it had good flavor. It had a good consistency. The kids enjoyed their meals. Service was good and we didn't have to wait long for our food. Overall enjoyed my meal.

Love this place so much. My fiancé and I eat here pretty often and have never been disappointed in either the food or the service. Love the awesome artwork that decorates the walls too! So we usually get a combo or sometimes if we have friends with us, the who hawg is great for sharing. The meats are always tender and moist, never overcooked. My guy loves the burnt ends and the sausage. I love the turkey and pulled pork. Their sauces go great on everything. The sides are fantastic, flavorful and come in generous amounts. Our favorites are the smoked corn, the amazingly creamy Mac and cheese and the pit beans. The green beans are super tasty also. Hands down my favorite place for BBQ in Jacksonville!

The food is pricey an beers seem even more expensive because of the food cost. But the atmosphere is nice, and the food was excellent thou. We order something around the lines of a bbq feast. It's the best deal they have to offer for your buck. We will def return but we will try the other bbq Mojo's around Jax.

The best BBQ in town! I actually think it's the best BBQ I've ever eaten. We take a lot of road trips throughout the south, especially GA and we always try the local BBQ joints (of course using Yelp to find the best) and nine times out of ten we agree it's not as good as MoJo's! Get the burnt ends, there not on this locations menu but you can get them if you ask, so so yummy!

I'm not one who breaks for BBQ, honestly it doesn't even make my top 10 list so when a coworker suggested we have it for lunch I was willing but not super thrilled. Fortunately, my attitude changed shortly after entering MOJO. It must have be whatever was wafting through the air. A little sweet, a little tang and whole lotta smokey. It was heavenly. For starters I asked for an iced tea 50/50. That's local talk for half sweetened half unsweetened iced tea. 100% is way too sweet for me and I really don't' want my teeth to fall out or go into shock over a beverage.I asked our server for a suggestion and without skipping a beat asks, well sugar, how hungry are you? That's a great start. With help from my coworker and server, I decided on the half brisket/half pork with a side of baked beans and mac & cheese. The meal comes with grilled buttered Texas toast. Holy livestock! My meal arrives and I dug right in. I really liked that the brisket and pork didn't arrive saturated in sauce. The trick is you slather your meat with one (or more) of the sauces available in the table top variety pack. Even without sauce my meats were absolutely delicious. I tried all the sauces and my faves were the spicy and the sweet. I really liked the mac & cheese, especially the toasty parts, I'm a big fan of toasty parts. I ate my grilled bread next by spreading the baked beans on it. My meal was so good it left me overstuffed. I had to push the seat back to get into the car...Geez, what a fatty. Later that evening when I got to my hotel room and changed into my PJ's, I could still smell MOJO all over my shirt. Talk about flavor.

I love this place. I hope we have it in Sarasota area. Good was great. Tried the pulled pork, fajita and the grilled salmon. Almost made my drive here in Jacksonville worth it. Ambience is great inside. Definitely coming back here again.

Can't get enough of this place! The portions are huge and all of the barbecue is delicious. I should branch out as far as sides, but the standbys are the smoked corn, mashed potatoes and my personal favorite the macaroni and cheese.

Mojo, you let me down. Been visiting this location since waaaaay back when, when it was easy to get a seat at lunch. My recent visit was disappointing, not due to the food (it was great), but the service. I wasn't greeted when I walked in (register person busy texting on cell phone), nor did I get a "thanks for stopping in" when I departed. I sat at my table for several (more than 5) minutes before a server stopped by, he didn't introduce himself, just asked "you ready?" I gave him my drink order, and meal order when he returned with my drink. The food came out, and was prepared as I asked, but my drink went dry 3 times, and I had to flag a different server down on one occasion to get a refill. Staff seemed to be more interested in interacting with each other than with customers tonight. Some staff, anyway. Again, the food was terrific. The service was not. I know you can do better, Mojo.

I was on a cleanse. And then I came to the south and my friend brought me here. :( Of course I had to have bbq at a bbq joint, and not a salad... although I was tempted to go for the Mojo Veggie Platter. First off, I was surprised at how cheap everything was. Lunchtime kind of prices for dinner? For $12, I was able to get two big chicken thighs along with 2 large servings of sides, and Texas Toast. I opted for the pit-smoked chicken with mashed potatoes and dirty rice. The pit-smoked chicken was pretty dry; it was disappointing considering it's a bbq joint. The mashed potatoes were delicious; totally in the south with all that butter!! The dirty rice was nothing spectacular. What I was a fan of was their mixed drinks! Don't let how good it tastes fool you into thinking they're not stiff! Service is also pretty quick for bbq'ed food.

This is just flat out good! (maybe approaching great). Its a fun place to go with friends and family and the service is great. Our server went out of his way to be courteous and welcoming. I dont remember his name, but with a voice like that, he should be a news broadcaster. We had the Whole Hog, with an extra side it was more than enough for our group. I wish I had the room to try the banana pudding which another table mate scarfed up with a smile! The sides were great ( greens, mac n cheese, slaw, and fries) but the shining star was the beef brisket, with its perfect black bark and butter knife tender and juicy bite! Not to say the rest wasnt also very good. Way to go Mojo's!

First trip to Jacksonville and I had some of the best beef brisket. Located in a strip mall, my clients took here claiming it was awesome bbq. I concurred that the meal was great...service was on and the place was fun. I ordered the 2 meat combo. Brisket and hot links with mac and cheese and collard greens. Didn't leave a crumb on my plate. The weakest thing were the links.... but it wasn't horrible. Will visit again when I'm back.

My favorite BBQ in town - brisket is the bomb. Order brisket slightly moist, that's the best cut. Green beans are great, fresh and slightly crunchy, never mush. Fries are hand cut and fresh, lovely. Black eyed peas are also wonderful, as is the cornbread and collards. Other meats to consider: pulled pork is always tasty and moist, ribs are really good too. The only downside is that the place can get really loud when full of other BBQ lovers!

First thing to say is be careful which one you are going to. There is more than one Mojo BBQ. However, this is the original, at least that is what the server told me. All the BBQ was great and they have about six different BBQ sauces. The burnt ends were pretty good, but the brisket was to die for. I got talked into the banana pudding, not sure if they always have that, but it was good. Highly recommend giving this place a try if you are into BBQ. It is no frills all BBQ.

Quality barbecue in a cool atmosphere. This place is located in a strip mall, resulting in my boyfriend giving me a skeptical look as we parked. Luckily, the smell of delicious smoked meat that hit our noses as soon as we walked through the doors quickly appeased him. I like that Mojo's offers a two meat combo that comes with two sides. Since I'm incredibly indecisive, this is a good option that allows me to sample different menu items. I went with the turkey and pulled pork. The turkey had an excellent smoky flavor while the pulled pork was tender and flavorful. I'd order both again. For the sides, I went with the sweet potato mash and baked beans. Both were good as far as BBQ sides go, but my boyfriend out-ordered me with the thick cut French fries and macaroni & cheese. Go with those. The serving sizes are plentiful, especially for the price point. The sauces all impressed - every table has several varieties, including a regular, sweet, chipotle, mustard, and vinegar. Try them all! I wish more BBQ places kept sauces on the table because I always feel guilty sending my server back for more...

I don't think they actually deliver unless you place a large catering order. I tried to order $50 of food from them for a friend (I don't live in Jacksonville) and they said it would be a $35 delivery charge....to go one mile!

Best BBQ in Jacksonville, in my opinion. My understanding is that the owner has done his 'research', which is evident by the homage paid to Dreamland BBQ in his University Blvd location. I am not a fan of ribs, but this place makes some of the best ribs I've ever had (2nd only to Dreamland, of course). And oh my goodness, their sides! The mac and cheese, the sweet potato mash...it's all delicious. I had a rather large takeout order this past week, and the server at the front was organized and had everything ready and together for me when I got there (which is always a relief), not to mention she was incredibly accommodating to the woman in front of me who also had a large to go order (maybe 9 or 10 people's worth) and decided to wait until she got to MoJo to put her bill on all separate checks (seriously lady, maybe get out more. that's really annoying). The beach location is great for some just-plain-good music, one of my favorite bands, Grandpa's Cough Medicine, has performed their many times, and of course MoJo No. 4 has a great whiskey bar, if you're into that sort of thing.

Visit Date: 09.06.2010 Had the small pulled pork dinner plate with baked beans and mac and cheese. Tasty stuff, but it's likely best to order during lunchtime, since the same meal is cheaper by a few dollars or so. They also have a variety of sauces.. I'm not really into the Carolina sauces, the sweet bbq sauce is good enough for me! Also ordered a side of banana pudding, which came in a generous sized container, and was absolutely one of the best I've ever had. That's saying something since I love banana pudding.

This place has the best pulled pork I've ever had and their mac-n-cheese is amazing. My husband gets the fried chicken and it comes with the only gravy he will eat! The ribs are delicious also but I usually stick with the pulled pork. They never disappointe, the food is aamazing every time we eat here.

My first time trying out Mojos for lunch and it was a good experience. I had the North Carolina pork shoulder which was delicious. The Mac n Cheese was good but the pit beans tasted like they had way too much garlic in them. My friend had the Turkey and said it was a little on the dry side. Service wise out waiter was very hard to hear because he was talking very low. I'm young and can hear pretty good but not with him. He was good at explaining things when we could hear what he was saying. Overall it was a good experience.

I LOVE MOJO'S. I no longer live in Jax, but when I visit my parents I emphatically request a visit here. Their onion rings are amazing. The batter is spectacular with peppercorn in it. It is served with ranch dressing - which is totally necessary! If you get the large serving, ask for extra ranch because you're going to need it. I've had their Southwest Chicken salad - delicious. I'm a loyalist to their BBQ ribs. My dad says their beef brisket is fantastic. Their sides could be a meal on their own. Mashed potatoes - amazing. Mac n Cheese - great. Roasted corn is good too. Oh! And my mom says their bread pudding cannot be passed up! Order CheerWine (it's a soda) with your meal and you will not be disappointed. If you are in Jax... come here!

Best BBQ in Jacksonville. This place really does it right from the sweet tea to the awesome collard greens and oh yes the BBQ. Look it isn't a BBQ place if you don't leave and your clothes smell like meat and this place won't let you down. If you don't want to go here for your pulled pork fix just save your time, skip the other places, and go to Sonny's cause that is all any of those other places are compared to Mojo's. I have yet to experience a wait, the service has been good, and the food will take those other BBQ places and get all Deliverance on them.

  • Austin K.

I gotta say not the best bbq ive ever had. it wasn't bad, just okay. i'll say the onion rings we got were massive but very good. i got collard greens as a side which were okay. it was definitely missing something in the flavor. i went with the carolina style pork which was tasty but it was a little dry. gotta say my favorite part was the decor. pictures of old blues artists all over the place. gotta give it up to the artist and the person who were in charge of decorating. other than that there wasn't much to write home about for MOJOs. okay bbq but there is better out there.

I have been loving this place for years. The ribs, the onion rings, the mac n cheese, the salads.... Went there tonight and I kid you not, A HUGE NASTY ROACH THAT HAD BEEN CRAWLING ON THE WALL BESIDE OUR BOOTH FLEW DOWN TO OUR TABLE AND LANDED RIGHT NEXT TO MY PLATE. I lept out of the booth and screamed. My husb trapped it under a styrofoam box until the waiter came and got it with a towel. BARF. Waiter did nothing to compensate for this. Ridiculous. I regret the tip I left (right before this happened.) We left that box behind but brought our other box home, filled with ribs, which I cannot bring myself to eat because of what happened. Don't know if/when I will ever be able to return. So bummed.

I went to this place a couple months back with my wife. Decided to do carry-out and get a couple dvds. Got pulled pork and brisket with fries and corn. The pork was ok, but really very bland and pretty dry. Brisket was fatty as hell but the pieces of lean were ok at best. I got all of the sauces as my wife and I like different stuff but I have to say none was anything special at all. I would have preferred a bottle of bulls-eye to their stuff. Just a really bad experience and not worth the drive back. I just can't find good bar b que in this town.

This is by far the best barbecue ever made. Ever. In fact I want my money back from Sonny's and Bono's for every time I've ever eaten their filth before. If wang tasted like Mojo's I'd be a pro-bono gay porn star.

This is perfect for our family of six. Food, service and ambience AWESOME. I always get the Carolina BBQ sandwich. Huge servings! After I've been eating for what seems like forever, it looked as if I hardly made a dent in the BBQ. Our server was amazing and so attentive. I wish I could remember her name to give her a shout out. She was a really pretty African America young woman. A large party had been seated right before we came in and she explained she wanted to get our orders in before theirs so we wouldn't have to wait longer. The kids meals come with icecream and when our youngest asked for vanilla then said he asked for chocolate when the icecream was served, she immediately got him chocolate. I was very impressed with how she handled that...especially for little customers who have the potential to make scenes if they don't get the kind of icecream they want. She also offered to bring the kids meals out first, which was nice. I like the atmosphere with canvasses of blues players on the high walls and old car license plates. It kind of has a house of blues feeling. I love this place

I was at MOJO recently to celebrate a friend's birthday. It took a while to get the attention of a waiter so they could join tables for our group, but once we did, it was smooth sailing. Service was good throughout and tip was automatically included due to the group size. I had the pulled pork platter and it was good. There was some fat included which I'm not a fan of at all. I've had better pulled pork at other bbq restaurants in town. The biggest hit of the night for me was the onion rings. I saw a platter walk by and told our waiter I wanted some. Holy crap - these were the best onion rings I've ever had. I like breaded onion rings - not the slimy batter that gets soft as the onion steams it - ick! Usually The Loop gets my onion ring love, but Mojo has kicked them right off the medal stand. Huge rings, wonderfully crispy and great spice to the batter. I could have a made a meal just off of them. One of the other guests got the fried chicken (which I almost ordered) and it looked really good. I'll be returning soon for a fried chicken/onion ring heart attack.

Tennessee has the dry rub. Texas has beef brisket. The Carolina's have mustard and vinegar sauces. Here in Jacksonville, we got Mojo BBQ. Mojo hasn't been in this city forever like Bono's or Jenkin's. But the best thing about Mojo, are the plentiful options of meats, and wonderful side choices. They also offer awesome sauces. My favorite is the signature Mojo sauce. I'm usually tasting all of them before the food even arrives. I never met a meat I didn't like at Mojo. The standout's are the spareribs, pork shoulder, smoked sausage, and of course- the brisket. Bring a lover and/or friend and get the whole hog- which gives you a smattering of meats and sides. Which brings me too the sides. I'm in love with the potato salad. Those spuds just do it for me. Other highlights include the mac 'n cheese, mashed 'n gravy, collards, baked beans. Don't diss the house salad either, because it comes with delicious jalepeno cornbread croutons! One day I will try one of the appetizers, but I am usually in there with a game plan, and apps take the bench. You can't forget to order an ice cold Cheerwine, served in a frosty mug with crushed ice. The atmosphere is a bit Chilli''s-esque, with a bunch of reproduced old Blues memorabilia on the walls. But the food speaks for itself, and the service is always sharp. If you live in the 904 and haven't checked it out yet, get ya ass to one of the three convenient locations!

I've eaten here twice now when I've visited, and it has easily become my favorite barbecue place. When you walk in, it immediately smells amazing. My mouth starts watering as soon as I walk in the door. The service has always been good, but the food is amazing. I love their BBQ pork quesadillas, and the fried green tomatoes are delicious, too. I've had both the pulled pork and the smoked chicken, and both are just so mouth-wateringly amazing. I like both their sweet BBQ sauce and their signature mojo sauce. To sum up, if you want great BBQ, don't go for the typical Sonny's or Bono's. Definitely make sure to go to Mojo's instead.

Stopped here with the family on the way back from Orlando to Augusta. Will definitely consider stopping here again for lunch or dinner next time we drive through Jacksonville. We (family of 6) got the whole hawg and a full rack of spareribs. Probably could have added another rack of ribs. The macaroni, sweet potato mash and corn were great sides. We'll skip the fries and green beans next time. My kids and I liked their sweet barbecue sauce - the wife really liked the mojo. Definitely give this a look.

Brisket and pulled pork both worth a try and neither needs BBQ sauce, although that's great too. Worth a trip to get the mac 'n' cheese.

Was in from out of town, read some Yelp reviews and decided to give this place a try. Had the dry ribs and sausage.....ribs had good flavor but were alittle dry ...sausage was mediocre at best. Sides were collards, which were fresh and good also had mac & cheese that was homemade and very good. Waitress was very pleasant and gave great service. Most folks might find this place a good place to eat, but I would not order the same thing I had again if I returned.....

Best barbecue restaurant I've been to! Prices are a little higher than a sonny's ($8 lunch $14 dinner) but well worth it! The must eat place if your in Jax!

Believe what you read! We just tried Mojo this past weekend based on the great reviews, and we may not have bbq anywhere else again! The atmosphere was great, the service was fantastic, and the food was incredible! Definitely try the mashed potatoes as a side, and get some of the sweet potato mash as a side/dessert. The sweet tea is great (as to be expected), though a bit pricey. We got the Whole Hawg as a meal for two, and it would definitely be enough food for four (but probably with a couple additional sides). The pulled pork is possibly the best I've ever had! This is truly a gem of Jacksonville; if you haven't tried it yet, get there!

I know ribs, and these are good ribs. And for some reason the other mo Jo's have a different level of goodness which aren't as good as university ave.

Very blah. Restaurant was not very busy but service was extremely slow. We ordered brisket, chicken, macaroni and cheese and beans. The Mac and cheese was very good but the beans were Luke-warm and flavorless. The brisket was extremely dry and the chicken also had no flavor. Absolutely not worth the money.

We stopped by here after coming back fron a cruise to the bahamas. We had BBQ ribs, sausage, pork pulled shoulder. The food was good, but again, I found it a bit on the saltier side. The service is good, the restaurant is clean and lively. The price is reasonable.

I like this place, but the last time I was there, the brisket was very fatty. So that was a little disappointing. Still give it a whirl, chances are you will be pleased with the results.

Very good! Sides are surprisingly awesome for a BBQ joint. Ribs are a little salty, but all other meats are a go!

Whenever I visit Jax, I eat at Mojo. The decor honoring Blues musicians, the great blues music that wafts through the place, the wonderful service, and the excellent food make this place a must when in town. Nothing fancy mind you, just generous portions of great brisket, pork, etc., and sides that will literally blow the plaque off your taste buds, all at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Adequate BBQ & great side dishes in a cacophonous environment. I've been to Mojo's twice, and will probably not be back. When I want to go for BBQ, I'm looking for the place with the best pork and the best sauces. Mojo's seems to focus on the Carolina style mustard-based suaces -- not my preference. The pork was good enough, I guess, but without a decent sauce, I just didn't enjoy it. Mojo's has some fantastic side dishes (green beans were very tasty, and the mashed potatoes were great), but sides don't make or break a BBQ place; they can only make a good one better. And then there's the noise. Holy crap. This place is like a cave with no insulation on the ceiling, and when the dining room is over half full, you literally cannot hear the voice of the person sitting straight across from you. My server couldn't hear my order without leaning way in and putting his ear to my face. Ergh? If you love mustard-based BBQ sauces and don't want to talk to those you go with, then give it a shot. For me, it's a non-repeater.

In a town where barbeque joints are as ubiquitous as Dunkin Donuts in Boston or hot dog carts in Manhattan, MoJo truly stands out. I haven't been to its sister restaurant on Beach Blvd, but I understand the menu is essentially the same. My personal favorite is the Texas Chili Salad, but don't kid yourself...this is no salad, and this ain't no everyday chili. The chili is made with smoked beef brisket (one of the house specialties), and the "salad" is a GIANT plate of tortilla chips, heaps of chili, Romaine, and lots of cheddar & jack cheese. Ask for extra jalapenos and the Texas Pete's if you're like me! All the meats are smoked and yummy, and the portions are super-sized. They say that the style and flavor is their own mix of various styles (Memphis, North Carolina, Texas, etc.), and it just works. It comes out without sauce, but you'll find their 5-6 special sauces on the table, which you'll want to experiment with to find your own favorite mix. Get the fries - they're the best in town, IMO. Most of the sandwiches and dinners come with 2 sides, and I don't think you can go wrong with any of your southern-style choices. CAUTION - if you're going for lunch during the week, it gets extremely busy between 11:30 and 1:00, so if you don't want to wait, get there before or after, especially if you're with a big group. Also, the acoustics are terrible, so get ready to yell at the person next to you. Tables are big (booths seat 6) and service is fantastic - you may wait longer to get seated than you will for your food.

Yum a dum dum! I've been frequenting this place for 3 years now and have never ever had a bad meal or service from them. I highly recommend the generously portioned smoked turkey sandwhich. Believe me, when you leave here if you are still hungry you probably should seek some kind of help.

Mojo's is OK but there is way better BBQ to be had in Jacksonville. Seek out Jenkins or Cotton's on Rogero rd in Arlington.

I love my BBQ. Im not one to claim to be a BBQ god, or that X has the best, or that dry rub is the best and wet is for losers. I do know a few things about it however. 1. Cows should not be BBQ'ed, A nugget that Texas has yet to grasp hold of. 2. Pigs should always be ordered when at a BBQ place. 3. The sauce is almost as important as the way the meat is cooked. 4. If it doesn't have a pink smoke ring then your not getting the real deal 5. The 11th testament is thou shalt not use Catsup. (who knew?) All those being said, MoJo's passes with flying colors on each point. I have only two places that I get BBQ in Jacksonville, Bono's and MoJo's. I love the sauce and sides at Bono's more, but the meat and atmosphere at MoJo's wins every time. You'll find Mojo's in two locations and I prefer the original to the newer Mojo's kitchen because its smaller and more personal. The portions are large here, and you can get a plate of BBQ that will feed you for three days. After a few trips to MoJo's you'll actually hear your arteries clogging and that's a good thing! I tend to grab the sweet and tangy sauce for my pork when I go, but a lot of the people reach for their classic sauce. Both are fine but don't grab for catsup unless your putting it on fries or you might find yourself roasting in the fire along side the pork. I give MoJo's 3 stars because its great BBQ. They do what they do really well and you can tell the chef/owner really has a passion for blues and BBQ. I would choose Bono's over Mojo's for myself but it's a very close choice and one that depending on who's asking I might not repeat. Do yourself a favor and make sure to go to go to Mojo's!

There's a lot of good barbecue places in Jacksonville. Some have good meat and okay sides. Some have great meat and no sides at all. But at Mojo, the meat and sides are all awesome. And of course the sweet tea is perfect. Go there.

We have been to both locations, Beach Blvd and University. The Beach Blvd. site has nicer decor but the food at both is wonderful. Ample portions, so much so that one night my brother pushed his plate back on the table and announced that he had "hit the meat wall". He took the rest home and had plenty of leftovers. It is as authentic as it gets. If you like your barbeque smokey and flavorful, you have to try this place. Mojo's truly is a step above the rest.

Wow, had an amazing good meal with the family. Went here on a recommendation and I surely was not let down! Best BBQ in the area much better. My daughter loves Mac cheese and I must say it was the best I have ever had. All the meats were cooked very good with smoky flavor and plentiful. The sides are indeed amazing. Think we found a gem here.

I love this place and I love their food, however I'd suggest not going during the lunch rush because that's the only time I've had problems - cold food, entirely wrong orders, wrong sides, empty drinks for 10-15 minutes and so on. During lunch the line wraps outside of the door and I understand the wait staff is rushed. For a first visit, make sure to miss the lunch rush times so you can fully experience the wonderfulness.

I was in Jacksonville for a week of business and came across this off the beaten path BBQ place in a strip mall. I stopped in for dinner and I'm glad I did. The BBQ was GREAT; smokey, moist and they had multiple sauces to choose from, each had their own personality and I had them all. I couldn't decide n a favorite. However, the veggies that are not normally the star of the meal were AWESOME. My grandmother would have would have been proud to call these her own. The smoked corn, sweet potato mash, collard greens and the banana pudding. Well besides the Great BBQ and sauces, the veggies made me come back for a seconds. I would even bring my vegetarian wife here for a meal. Great place, friendly people and awesome eats.

Awesome BBQ. Wife and I split the whole hawg and loved it. The pulled pork was up there with the best I have ever had, and the wife thought the turkey was awesome. The chicken was good and smoky, but could have used some more seasoning, and the sausage was nothing special. The ribs had good flavor, but I think were not quite ready to come out of the smoker. They were really tough and stringy, but the flavor was good. The collards were AWESOME, the potato salad was yummy and the corn was excellent too (they actually cut it off the cob). A great selection of sauces to try, so you are bound to find one to your liking. Will definitely go there again, though I will skip the sausage and might give the ribs another try. I will definitely go for the pork though.
