We have been here before, but it has been a while. I never took the time to review, but thought they deserved some kind words. We found the restaurant to be very clean. The staff was courteous and knowledgable. My Wife had 3 chicken soft tacos for $6.25. Lots of good chicken and steaming hot when removed from their foil blanket. Their salsa has a mild fresh flavor and their cheese dip was not spicy or watered down. Our waitress recommended that I order the enchiladas suizas for $9.50. They were very good. They were stuffed full of grilled chicken and the tomatillo sauce had just the right amount of heat. With drinks and everything, we ate for $22 and some change. Not bad for a Saturday dinner out. So glad that we came back!

This was our first time here. Service was really good. Salsa was OK. I ordered carnitas tacos. They were really plain. Basically meat and shell. I showed the waitress and she brought over pico d gallo. And made a huge difference. Wife had combination plate she said it was alright. I think I'll stick with LaNap.

Mmmmm.. I gotta say that was good! Typical Mexican joint with the numbered menu. There was 4 of us and it was a pretty empty place. We were seated right away and got our drinks quik. I got 2 tacos and a chili con queso. It came out really fast and hot. While we waited they kept the chips and salsa full. I like the salsa. Could be a little hotter but it was tasty and fresh. Its hard for me to judge the cost because i got a discount (cant tell ya how) but the prices seemed reasonable. Not sure how the weekday crowd is but the service and food was excellent. Ill def go back!

Its probably not even their fault. I grew up surrounded by Mexican food and Mexican people.... So, even though I want to give them a one, I gave them a two, because I truly believe that most people don't understand what it is supposed to taste like and Los Portales is just catering to their clientele. It was just as awful as LaNop. The salsa is bland, but not offensive. I munched it happily. I ordered three crunchy tacos a la carte. One chicken and two ground beef ($5.95) When it first came out, my tummy smiled. The tacos were huge and bursting with cheese. Then I took a bite, and that happiness??? Busted. Processed "cheese food" on my taco? Seriously? to add insult to egregious injury, the flavor and texture of the ground beef really did remind me of the smell of dog food. Gosh, I feel bad even saying it, but I couldn't get past the flavor. The chicken was stewed and mealy, swimming in juices yet strangely devoid of any flavor. I had three tacos, with no beans or rice. When the waitress came by to pick up the plate, two tacos had one bite taken out of each, and the third was still wholly intact. She asked me if I was done, I said "Yes, Im sorry, but I couldn't eat it. Its just that bad." To which she said nothing and very promptly brought out the check. I wasn't expecting much for $5.95. Honestly, i thought the tacos would be pretty small. But I expected good flavor. If they would spend the money on quality over quantity, they could make something tasty. The decor is adorable. For the first time in at least 15 years I didn't tip. I just could not believe my waitress acted as if I hadn't said a thing... did not acknowledge in any way that I clearly did not enjoy the food. Just an awful experience all around.

Tacos were alright, but service was exceptionally bad. Never got my water and was charged more than the menu price. Never again.

Best Mexican food in the Jacksonville area! This is the closest thing to my home out West...

Best Mex in Jax. Come for the Horchatas and stay for the tacos. Salsa is full of flava. Service is great.

Los Partales is Mex Mex, and pretty tasty Mex Mex at that. Just your classic neighborhood, watered down salsa-having, sour mix margarita slinging hole in the wall. It's no more or less authentic than any of the other similar spots (looking at you la nop). Arroz con pollo was good, if not a phenominal deal at around 12 bucks. I've also had a steak fajita salad, which isn't a bad deal at around $10. Steak strips were a little chewy but that's nothing new. The cheese dip packs a little bit of heat, and was good. Salsa was par for the course. Beer prices are cheap. Bud light drafts were $1.50 for a small, and you can get a gigantic Modelo for somehting like $5.25. People were friendly. Pretty much everything I want in a little neighborhood Mexican joint.

Very good traditional Mexican food. Good taste and good service. The food came out quickly and was just what I was hoping for. Portion size was more than I could eat and the flan was homemade. I would definitely come back.

Their chips and salsa is reason enough to come here! Fast and friendly service as well. If you come for lunch, try the lunch fajitas with chicken. So good!

I went there with the Jacksonville Foodies Club on a recommendation from a Mexican native. I was most disappointed by the food quality and service. Again, another family owned restaurant where service and food quality is mediocre. The food was auctioned off because the server delivering food didn't know who received which entrees. Two members of our group waited a while to get their entrees. I suggested they use the pivot system of delivery to avoid not knowing who gets which entree. The restaurant has potential, but will need to use fresh produce, and introduce smaller more intimate tables with a larger bar. It's more Tex Mex than authentic Mexican food. Qdoba offers better tasting food.

The food was ok. The beef kind of bland. The service was decent. The waitress was real on her game but the manager backed her up. I think La Nepolara us better.

Excellent food and reasonable price. They give you a carafe of salsa and individual bowls which is neat for those salsa hoggers! Need to upgrade the restroom makes u feel like your in Mexico but the food is where it's at!!

Great fajitas, man. Solid food that comes at a fast rate. Second best part may be the colorful murals I wish I had in my bedroom.

We have eaten lunch here many times. It's always good, tho' can be crowded around 1 p.m. Can recommend the fajitas, sizzling hot. Also good fresh guacamole. Our waitress Jenny is charming and efficient.

We used to eat here on a weekly basis, but have stopped due to the fact that the service has gotten SOOOO bad! The last two times we ate here we had to wait at least 45 minutes for our food, and it seemed as those the waitress just forgot about us. We will NOT be returning any time soon... If ever!!

Seems to be very similar to other mexican restaurants in Jacksonville. Especially La Nop - however I enjoyed the food better here than at La Nop. It didn't taste like someone microwaved it in the back. The salsa is also good as others have said. Get some queso because it's excellent as well. I had a chicken quesadilla, a burrito, and sweet tea. Both were good, and so was the service. No complaints.

Pretty standard Mexican fare. Located in a strip mall, great salsa, quick service. Time for a post lunch nap...

Food tastes very different than any other Mexican food I've had. Wasn't bad but wasn't that good either, most likely will not be back.

Pretty good, but not well prepared for groups. I came here with a MeetUp group for dinner, and had a margarita and the Carne Azada. The margarita was decent, and the Carne Azada was slightly overcooked, but good other than that. The only issue experienced is that not everyone at the table got their food at the same time, and the waiter seemed to either not know what he was delivering, or was just winging it. It briefly became an auction of the #25 that no one was claiming, only to find out that it was a #21 and he had circled the woman it belonged to twice. I will be back to see how they do for individual tables, because I heard from a regular that they have a great lunch service!

I liked most of the food here. My favorite was probably the flan for dessert. My main was a spinach quesadilla, but I wasn't a fan of it. I actually preferred the bean and cheese burrito that came with it, and may get that if I come here again. I'm not a big fan of salsa, including theirs, so I got some queso to go with their chips, and I liked it. I liked the Margarita, though a dining companion though it was a weak drink and the glass was messy to hold. They're only $2.50. I rather liked their sangria. The setting is simple, a bit loud, and someone was able to force open the locked bathroom door when I was in it. I prefer more comfortable restaurants. Our server was nice, but not as present as she could have been: I had to catch her attention to order that sangria. I spent $26 with tip for dinner, though that was probably the most of anyone in our group. My entree was only $7.75. Overall I'd give it a fair rating, though I liked most of my food and drink. I prefer more comfortable places generally.

We LOVED this place! I can't believe we didn't know about it before now. The service was great, the food fresh and fast, and a good value on top of it all! I had the arroz con pollo and it was very good! Cheese dip is also a must have, and I really liked the hot chips and salsa that was brought to the table instantly when we sat down. We will be back here again, and I think we have found our new "go to" mexican place in town! Well done!

This is a great place to grab lunch if you are in the area. I like the crispy beef tacos. Their salsa is also excellent. The service is fast and friendly. I would return.

What can I say, it's good Mexican food. Similar to many of the Mexican restaurants I've been to in each city I've lived/visited. The one thing that I'd say sets this place apart is the excellent service. Food arrives quickly, service is attentive, and overall a satisfying meal. I would recommend it if you're working in the area and need a quick lunch. I tend to go at least once a week.

Diabla soft tacos beat Tacolu hands down and they do that at half, or less of the price!

Being that there's not much going on in this area this place is good for a quick bite to eat. They have many veggie Mexican options most of them cooked traditionally (not texmex) . They also have a full bar which is nice of you decide to get a corona with your meal. I had the cheese mushroom quesadilla with avocado salad (mashed avocado) with shredded lettuce & white cheese. Hubby had a tamale & a combo for dinner, cheese enchilada, chicken burrito & meat taco. Both plates hit the spot but in my opinion needed a bit more seasoning. Beware their plates are super huge so don't get stuff on the fresh salsa & chips. I almost had to crawl myself to the car cause I was so stuffed! Lol

This is my favorite place for Mexican. The service is quick and food is always delicious and hot. The staff always has a friendly "hola como estas" for me served with a nice smile.

One of the better standard fare Mexican places in town. Overall, everything I've had is good portion size and well prepared with plenty of flavor. They do the quesadilla much better than any other place in town because the outside is actually toasty and slightly crispy. An important factor to me is that the food is actually hot when it arrives at the table. Too many Mexican restaurants hand you food that's just slightly warmer than room temp. My only criticism so far is that the fajitas were a little dry and could use a bit more seasoning. Staff is friendly, prices are reasonable and restaurant is clean.

Excellent! Only thing preventing a 5-star rating was slow service. Beyond that...great food, tasty margarita, good salsa, and solid pricing.

$1.99 margaritas on the rocks ALL day, every day!! Can't go wrong with the fajitas or chicken quesadillas. If you live in the area, the Money pages or Mint magazines always have good coupons for this place.

I love their cheap margaritas on the rocks. Everything here is at least good, and most of it is pretty darn good. Very fast and affordable. I love the veggie sinchronizada, which I hadn't had before dining here. The shrimp are actually prepared well. The guacamole is only so-so and doesn't come out super fresh; it is a little bit greyish and too smooth for my taste but edible. Chips and salsa are pretty good. Overall a nice stop for Mexican food, especially with a family or large group.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
