My boyfriend and I just recently moved to Jacksonville and we were looking for a place that would be our "go-to" restaurant. We found it! The restaurant was clean (4 out of 5), the atmosphere was quaint and quiet but that is what my boyfriend and I like (4 out of 5), the staff was very kind and attentive (5 out of 5), the prices were on point (5 out of 5) and the food was phenomenal!!! (5 out of 5) Overall experience was 5 out of 5. I ordered the chicken teriyaki with steamed rice and my boyfriend ordered the steak teriyaki with fried rice. The meat from both dishes was so TENDER!! The soup was hot and tasty and the salad was so fresh with the best ginger dressing you'll ever taste! We shared a California roll as an appetizer, which again, was very fresh. All dishes were served on attractive plates. Definitely the place to go if you are looking for a small gathering and a peaceful, relaxed evening which serves delicious food with super fresh ingredients! They are closed now. :(

WARNING: Do not go here. Found 4 fish bones in the salmon part of my Rainbow roll, currently have one lodged in my throat.

Damn bear perfect. Everything is incredibly fresh, at better prices than other Japanese places. Not much atmosphere, but it's quiet, clean, very friendly, and the food is great. No waiting, either. This is our new place for Japanese food.

Service was slow; wasabi was old - it's not wine. Apparently an Alaska roll here is salmon and cream cheese... The seaweed wrap was chewy. The place looks run down. The highlight of my experience was the water.

Stopped here as the midpoint of a roadtrip from FL to SC. This is housed in a strip mall next to a Pizza Hut, a local diner/sandwich shop, a Starbucks and a couple of other yogurt/smoothie type places. We were seated immediately and remained the only patrons throughout the late Sunday afternoon lunch rush. I ordered some sweet tea and was happy that it was actually sweet. FL proved to be a hit or miss spot in terms of the sweetness in my sweet tea, but this tea was strong and delicious. The lunchtime hibachi prices are awesome--less than $10 for chicken and shrimp, plus the standard ginger salad and miso soup. The salad was just iceberg lettuce doused in delicious and fresh ginger dressing. Would I have liked to have seen a little more greenery or a carrot slice or two, sure? But it kept me busy until my entree arrived. The miso broth was outstanding. Rich in flavor but perfectly light with the right number of scallions. There was an additional ingredient floating arouind in there--I don't know if there's such a thing as miso flakes or what have you, but there were definitely flakes of something white/clear-ish and although the absorbed the flavor of the broth, the soggy texture was something I could've done without. My chicken and shrimp were quickly and well prepared with fried rice and the standard carrot, cabbage, broccoli veggie mix. It really was delicious and perfectly portioned. The service was prompt and quietly attentive. We were in and out relatively quickly, and with a price tag of less than $13, it's hard to beat a quality, not-terrible-fast-food stop like this.

Nothing to look at & a bit dirty. The food is good, The miso soup was great, and the price was awesome. $10 for steak and scallops. .

We looked at the reviews and chose this place as my husbands sushi birthday gathering. Sadly, it was just ok. The people were nice. The sushi was good and fresh but not excellent. There was nothing special about it. The "spicy" rolls were not spicy. The hibachi meals were ok but I had steak and chicken and my chicken was definitely cooked with shrimp as each bite tasted very fishy; I only ate half of the chicken. Not to mention, we had 5 hibachi grill dinners and they were all cool, not warm, not hot, but cool. We were the only ones in the restaurant. So... It was unexpected to get less than warm food. Oh, all the soft drinks were flat as well. The staff was nice and attentive. They deserved a 4 for service but the food lacked anything to be desired.

The decor is kinda divey but the food is great and cheap. Had a late night craving for some sushi and thankfully this place was still open. Called my order in and was told the standard - it would be 15 minutes for one Texas roll and Coconut Boba tea. OK cool. So I wait maybe 10 minutes then head over. I'm greeted kindly but have to wait for another ten minutes? There was no one else in the store and I didn't see any other orders up? But the food was sooooo good! I tried to drop in for lunch one day around 1pm. There are signs on the door that say that are open 11-11 Monday -Saturday... but they were closed? So I was heart broken. Not sure if it's an old sign or the rain keeping the owners from opening. But normally a great place to get some nice sushi for a good price.

I've found my new, cheap, "go-to", sushi place in Jax! comprable to the food at Sushi Yama in Boca, better because it's Jax and that means the prices are better. Not better because it lacks the upbeat "hang out" atmosphere that you get at Sushi Yama. The rolls are tasty and handled with great technique. Don't get me wrong, it's not the most amazing sushi i've ever had in my life, however you can't beat the price. You can go ahead and call your local regular, I'm sure i'll be here several times a week. Bravo, sushi master, bravo.

If I could give a negative star rating I would! I ordered lunch for my office with five orders only at 11:45am. By 1pm they called us back to let us know the drivers car broke down. Understandable things happen. So I drove up to the restaurant to pick up our orders. Low and behold our food was not even ready. I sat there for ANOTHER 45 minutes waiting for them to cook our food. I don't expect free but no compensation was offered for the hassle. A 2 hour wait for a delivery is ridiculous!

I give this a "5 star" for overall points... First it's a family owned business and I like to support them over chain restaurants. (The owner "Lele" is super sweet). The prices are reasonable (the $3 spring rolls a good buy) The food is pretty tasty in general but the STEAK dishes are AMAZING (think Teriyaki and Hibachi)!! California roll very good.... and as someone else mentioned the Ginger Dressing on their salad is THE BEST EVER! Yes, it's a little slow with the service; but you are greeted in a very welcoming manner and tended to in a reasonable period of time. People should realize that culturally, the Japanese are not rushy types and quality takes time to prepare. They do a lot of DELIVERY (yes they deliver!!! Big plus!!!) and take out and so while I admit there are never the crowds there that I wish for them, it always a nice experience. People these days seem to expect some perfect drone-like experience. I'm from California and we don't have 1/4 of the fast food and chain restaurants (Chili's, Olive Garden, etc) that Jacksonville has and I think people are not used to the family restaurant experience. I say, try this place..... don't be in a big rush and be kind to your hosts and you will be VERY HAPPY WITH YOUR ENTIRE EXPERIENCE!!!!!

Kyoto is one of the best Sushi places in Jax! The owners are really friendly and the food is great. Some of the best chicken fried rice I've ever had. It's not too often you have an American waiter at a sushi place, but this guy seems pretty knowledgable about his sushi. It's a really small place, but I suggest it to all my friends.

the absolute worst sushi we have ever experienced. seriously, it was frozen. I couldn't even bring myself to tell the waitress how awful everything was because I thought it would just be too mean. The vegetables in my soup tasted of metal, maybe because they were just freezer burned, I don't know. The squid salad was so fishy, it was basically dehydrated bits of squid with some dried seaweed. I wouldn't feed it to anyone I liked. I can't even begin on how bad the sushi was, my husband asked me what we had at home he could eat instead. NEver, ever again.

I was craving Japanese food late on a Sunday afternoon; which is generally hard to find when most places are open for the church and dinner crowd. I found this place wasn't too far from me and had decent reviews. I ordered the lunch chicken hibachi and went to pick it up and take it home. The ginger salad dressing was the best I have ever had, but everything else I had was SERIOUSLY lacking in flavour, this was disappointing because the prices are great and it's close by, but sadly I will not be going back.

I will not be going back. I have had bad experiences but this one is bound to happen again here. Went in and ordered the sushi lunch special with a friend at 115pm on a Thursday. There were two other tables seated. Our salads came out promptly with soup. It was ok. Our waitress never acknowledged us again until 150 when we got her attention to ask if we could get it to go because our lunch hour was over. The sushi was average. Pretty good rice and not bad ingredients. The spicy mayo was good. But the waitress said the sushi guy went to do deliveries and then everyone ordered sushi. So they are way understaffed or mismanaged.

I have ordered from them multiple times and their Japanese food is amazing! Definitely a little hole in the wall restaurant but the food is so worth it. Their rolls are great and their portions of chicken katsu were plentiful.

Hidden gem inside a strip mall on south side and baymeadows. They serve 2 for 1 beers after 4pm. Started with a dynamite roll and spicy yellow tail roll both were amazing. For entrees beef udon noodles and hibachi salmon and steak combo. Noodles were very flavorful with just the right amount of sauce. Hibachi entree was a very large portion and also delicious. Service was very fast but we were the only ones in the restaraunt. Will return again.

My husband and I LOVE Kyoto! Every time we go, the owner is super nice, and the food is ALWAYS fresh and delicious! My husband used to live in Japan and he said their sushi is top notch and just as good. I've gotten their chicken hibachi and the food is fresh and hot, the vegetables are crisp and delicious, and the rice is fried perfectly. The soup and salad is also good -- nothing atypical -- falls in line with what is served at other Japanese restaurants. I've also gotten the chicken tempura --- and it's MMMMM delicious! The servings are plentiful -- fresh chicken, sweet potato, zucchini, broccoli and onion fried and a light tempura batter that's crisp and delicious. We go here a lot and food is always consistent and good. I'm bummed that other people have had a bad experience here because we've had just the opposite!

My husband and I just got home from Kyoto and I knew I needed to write a review right away. I found a coupon in the mail for this place and we decided to give it a try. It's Tuesday night, so I wasn't surprised that we were the only people in the restaurant, but more customers filtered through while we dined. The atmosphere is very relaxing, the music is quiet, and the sushi bar itself is quaint... But the sushi rolls that came from behind it were incredible. We ordered the Florida roll (volcano roll with scallops), the dragon eel roll, and the salmon Katsu roll. The volcano roll is the best I've ever had, and even though it took a little longer to make it was definitely worth it... So much so that we ordered another one, and a beautiful rainbow roll to accompany it. The portions are generous, and the most expensive roll is $8.50. The fish they use tastes incredibly fresh and is cut thick, they really don't skimp on anything. We also ordered yakitori as an appetizer, I would order it again. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place. All in all, we got an appetizer, two large bottles of sake (8 cups in each), five sushi rolls and two desserts for $48. We'll definitely be returning, I highly recommend it!

My daughter and husband love unagi don, which is eel over rice. Not too many places serve this. Needless to say, this will be one of our regular eating places. And the sushi rolls are excellent too.....made generously large.
