I'm so glad a nice woman in the gym told me about this market!!! What great prices! 2 lbs of fresh strawberries for $1, petite asparagus for $1 per bunch and more!! For under $12 I bought a TON! Note to mustard greens lovers: they only sell them on the weekends. :-(. Feel free to haggle....the vendors seem to enjoy it. Lol

I go here often mostly to keep my negotiating skills sharp (yes you can haggle!). Produce only (one booth has fresh fish & shrimp, and sometimes there is a caged truck with live Rode Island red chickens running around), at least 30 under cover booths. Many fresh items, and some not so fresh. I can get good quality produce here in volume for about 1/3'rd what I would pay at Publix, or Winn Dixie. One time I bought a forty pound case of tomatoes that were very fresh, and ripened for $8.00 (he asked $15.) which made enough good fresh sauce to feed 40 people pasta for a party I had last Christmas time. Bottom line you could buy all the produce, and fruit you need to feed a family of five-six for a week for less than $20. Make sure to bring a lot of singles with you, and quarters so you pay vendors exact amounts.

Today my husband suggested that we go to the Farmers Market and I agreed to go, we've been talking about it for weeks and just putting it off, like a lot of things i guess. But I am so glad we did, and I think we just started a new tradition for us. I plan to go at least bi-weekly from now on! I was soooooo impressed with all the fresh fruits and vegetables, and I also got a wealth of knowledge from some of the growers/salespeople there about nutrition. I hate that I waited so long, I had been before but it has literally been years since the last time I had been. I will definitely be back next weekend. When I think of all the money I saved by going, it would be ridiculous for me not to go. Sorry Publix, but you will no longer get my money for produce. We got twice as much for the money we normally spend in the grocery store. I'm not surprised, but my eyes have definitely been opened and it will be the Farmers Market from here on out!:-)

Based on the reviews we were very excited to try this farmer's market even though it was a bit of a drive to get there. When we arrived I was amazed how big it was and the variety of goods offered. We visited on a Saturday morning so I do not know if the routine is a little different on the weekend but no one was offering samples. We went though the whole market purchasing corn on the cob, tomatoes, onions, bananas, watermelon, oranges, and boiled peanuts. To my utter dismaythe only edible items we found in all of this was the oranges and bananas. The watermelon (bought up front) was completely dry and rock hard inside. I cannot even describe the tomatoes, red on the outside white and mushy on the inside. The boiled peanuts were small and undercooked. My best advice is to pass up the produce for vendors that are not offering samples or at least have cut up a few items so you can see if you are buying crap or not. Very disappointing... . will stick close to home from now on and buy from the local smaller markets that truly offer amazing produce and prices.

I am a lover of all things fruit & veggie. So, to me, visiting the Jacksonville Farmers Market for the first time was like going to Disney World. They have such a plethora of produce, all quite reasonably priced. We walked away with a large bag of brussels sprouts, strawberries, a whole pineapple & some sweet peppers for around $10-11. I really appreciated how frank the people selling the veggies were, too. They told me what was good & when, and did not hesitate to tell me not to buy the okra because it was not in season. Needless to say, all of my purchases were at their prime & have now been consumed. We went on Saturday afternoon around 12:00pm & had no trouble parking. There were people there but I wouldn't call it crowded. Overall, a great experience & I plan to return this weekend, as the fresh greens looked too tempting to not come back for (romaine, collards, etc).

Wow. Talk about fresh & amazing. There are so many different produce booths and vendors here - I would say 30+. For $6, we got 3 lbs. vine ripe tomatoes, a bag of radishes, bananas, a giant bag of basil, and 2 large sweet onions. For that much loot, I estimate I would've spent double that at Publix. For another $6 we got a giant jar of honey. Don't let the neighborhood deter you! There is a ton of parking and it feels safe once you're there. Bring lots of small bills and a reusable bag for all of your finds! I go here now for most of my produce shopping when I can find the time.

A local treasure. A big, no-nonsense outdoor produce market, open all the time. Parking is easy, selection is wonderful and there's also a good seafood market where I can pick up Mayport shrimp and excellent smoked salmon.

The previous eight reviewers got it spot on correct: this is the real-deal when it comes to Farmer's Market. Forget the frou frou. There's no incense, no wind chimes, and no hipsters. Instead. you get dozens of vendors just brimming with fresh, delicious, VERY inexpensive produce. My daughter got apples, bananas, tomatoes, cilantro and a couple other things for ten bucks. I got gorgeous sweet onions, cukes, lemons, tomatoes, celery, cilantro, avocados and the first palette of strawberries for under $20. Good quality, amazing selection, great prices, easy to park, and since we got lost on the way, we got to see some very sketchy neighborhoods. Good times.

Once you have been to the grocery store and the produce aisle has left you with only $20.....go here to the Farmers market and see what you could have purchased for $20. I was there recently was able to purchase 30 eggs ($5), 4 cucumbers ($2), Watermelon ($4), basket of cherry tomatoes ($2), 4 limes ($1), 4 lemons ($1) and then enough to give the guys a tip. Well worth it, and plenty to buy!

We've only been here in Jacksonville 2 weeks, and I've been looking for a farmer's market, well low and behold I found it...This place is awesome. We went on a friday morning and had the best experience. We spent a total of $30.00 which included; broccoli, mint leaves, garlic, baked potatoes, basil, oranges, tangerines, tomatoes, pineapple, cucumbers, lemons, eggs, mushrooms, celery and cabbage. All fresh.....This will definitely be a weekly spot for me...To shop local, homegrown and fresh.

I hate going anywhere else to buy my vegetables when I know that I can almost always get them cheaper here! I sought out a good farmers market when I moved to Jax five years ago and I've been coming back ever since, as often as possible. I always buy my red peppers from the same stall that offers them large, fresh, and 3 for $2, but I usually have to do a sweep of my favorite stalls to see which ones have the cucumbers, zucchini, and celery that crave for the best value. Sometimes I get adventurous, too, trying out new veggies because they cost $1 and why not? I also like to stop into the specialty stalls, especially Spouse's Bakery which sells the absolute best garlic cheddar biscuits as well as my husband's favorite, the BBQ pulled pork roll, and a ton of great pastries. Conscious Eats is another fave for their goat cheese, spices, and prepared foods like kale slaw. If you're a gardener, The Green Spot is a great place to buy plants, like the lemon tree that my husband and I have been successful in not killing for the last year and a half! You're best served coming on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon for the best selection of stalls and fun bonus activities, but there's still a pretty good selection during the week and if you come super early you definitely get your pick of the best produce. No matter when you come, I guarantee you'll leave with more produce than you expect, for less dollars than you'll pay at the grocery store.

Way too hot to 100% enjoy today's visit, but came away with some goodies. $11 bought a head of cabbage, brussel sprouts, ginger, strawberries and other fruit. Majority of the vendors' produce was exceptionally fresh. While there, the DJ played some great tunes! The beau wanted boiled peanuts, but they werent ready/for sale yet. This was my first visit back, in over a year...I'lll be sure to visit more often.

I'm in total FRUIT HEAVEN! This is still the best place to go for amazing FRESH & IN SEASON fruits and veggies! This time around I took home some yummy fresh Lychee for $5/lb. I also picked up two bowls of sweet, giant organic blueberries ($8), two cantalopes ($1 each), a small watermelon ($2), a bunch of string beans ($2), a bunch of ripe bananas ($1 for 8), a flat of yellow mangos ($10), a basket of large juicy tomatoes ($2), a large basket of grapester tomatoes ($2), two bags of giant carrots ($1 each), two gorgeous pineapples ($1.50 each), a bag of small onions ($2), and, the best part, three larger variety mangoes & six sweet potatoes given to me for FREE! Go any time in the week. The parking is super easy and the vendors are so friendly and generous. I particularly like to visit Larry's booth. He has some amazing kale, but unfortunately he sold out on Saturday and I went on Sunday. No worries. He said he would have more on Tuesday. Another great vendor is Ladda. She is a sweet Thai lady who sells a variety of great produce at super cheap prices! Overall, all of the vendors here give great customer service and are really flexible. They let you sample what they have and will usually work with you on their prices. Did I mention they have fresh young coconut here that is cut on the spot by a man with a machete for only $3? How great is that? Love this place so much and happy I live really close! Go get your fruit (and veggies) on! :)

Why four stars ? Outstanding selections of fresh and ripe fruits and vegetables at amazingly affordable prices. Located on beaver street on the north side which likely keeps the less adventurous away. Be bold and go during the day on Saturday or Sunday. The option to get fresh from the farm food is a real blessing. There is a little stall between the the first and second set of parking isles where a woman is selling quart bags of cross cut collards. The significance of this is the large tough stems have been removed leaving only the very tender ribbons which cook up nicely. This particular vendor also offers fresh shelled peas and THE BEST HOMEMADE SWEET POTATO PIES!

OMG I can't wait to go back! It was a virtual cornucopia of visual delight!!! Every fruit and vegetable you can imagine (or pretty close). I got like 3 bags of veggies and fruit, and a flat of eggs for $15! And had lunch too!! Spouses bakery had delicious pastries and the seafood vendor had some beautiful looking fillets.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place !!!! Love the fact that they open every day and until 6pm!!! I would not buy vedge at any groceries (well.... Try not to) anymore. So fresh and cheap ...so cheap I spent so much money there. Eggs are fresh from the farm and huge !! Fresh coconuts juice available at one of the vender. There is a place selling danish and fresh bread. They are not there everyday. But I will suggest to get as many as you can if they are. Perfect for breakfast!!!! Fresh seafood and they also sell sausage for $5 a pack. There were a salsa place which was delicious!! Massive amount of fruits and vedge of the season. One of the place also sell exotic fruits like lambootan and dragon fruits and lychee etc... Just bring a lot of cash. Watch out for strange lady trying to sell you random t-shirts on her arms.

Fantastic market but nothing organic that I could find and no fresh coffee. But I would do much of my shopping here if I lived in Jacksonville.

We had read so many good things about this market and were so excited to go and see it - but my gosh what a disappointment. We arrived around 8am on a Saturday morning and there was rotting fruit and veg piled up on the sidewalks and trash everywhere - it also smelled terrible! The fruits in the stalls looked old and bruised and we couldn't find much at all that was locally sourced - the boxes we saw were just all the brands you see at the grocery store. Perhaps it depends on the time of year you go - we went in May - one thing is for sure - the smell there it has turned us off of ever going again.

Love Love Love this Farmers Market!!! Huge selection of all sorts of fresh veggies, fruits, organic items, local honey, breads etc. This is the perfect Sat or Sun morning trip for us, only about 5 mins from Riverside... but open 7 days a week! With a ton of fantastic reviews, I won't reinvent the wheel here, but will leave some tips. 1. Yes bring cash. But if you forget, a lot of these merchants are excepting debit/credit now. Seems most of them are located at the front of the market... but it will vary from stand to stand. 2. Parking can be a little crazy on the weekends. Our first visit we parked at the very front, now we go ahead and make the loop, park conveniently in the back without any problems. (And when our bags get to overflowing, we can drop off and keep shopping.) 3. Reusable bags. Yes. Bring them. Bring a handful actually. 4. Seafood: OOOOOOOOOOH!!! This is one of my faves. Junior's seafood is in the very back of the market on the left side. Fresh fish, Mayport shrimp and.... OYSTERS! Great prices too. Bring a cooler and they will fill it with ice for ya too. We've had a few oyster roasts and this is our go-to and they have always been amazing, fresh and good in size. Very pleased with the shrimp as well. And the guys here are funny, fast and friendly. 5. I have spotted some well known local chefs and restaurant owners here stocking up. (So you know it has to be good!) 6. You will be tempted to buy everything up before you make the loop. Keep walking... sometimes you can find some better deals farther down the line. 7. Only have 5 bucks left in your pocket? Ask for a deal. Merchants are very friendly and will sometimes let ya slide, even though the prices are pretty great in the first place. Thrilled that Jax has this wonderful gem... worth the trip every time.

I am a fan! Great prices and excellent choices. I bring all my visitors to see the market. I come almost every 2 weeks to get weekend lunch and breakfast pastries from Spouse's Bakery. They are my main draw to the market. The boiled peanuts are great, the seafood is super fresh, the choices of fruits & veggies is great too. You don't buy per pound (for most fruits & veggies), you buy per basket. Usually $2 per basket, 3 baskets for $5 depending on the stall & the fruits/veggies chosen. Fresh -in season- fruits at low, low prices. Go check them out! If you have questions about plants, talk to the lady at "The Green Spot" selling fruit trees, herbs, etc. She is extremely knowledgeable & helpful. You must go!

  • Don S.

It's ok but I do wonder how many of the vendors are really farmers because I suspect the majority of them are distributors for various warehouses. A lot of these guys are offering cavendish type bananas and I don't think they're locally grown. A lot of the the items are within days of expiring which is ok if you plan on using it the same day you buy it.

Great Farmers market, always has great and fresh stuff, and the vendors are very nice and tend to work on the prices.

  • DeeDee H.

This farmers market has been here forever, or so it seems. Plenty of parking, and sometimes they have food trucks to entice people to come buy their veggies and stuff. There are more than enough vendors to choose from, although they all have the same stuff! I guess, just walk around until you find the price that is right for you! That's typically what we do. And if you know of a deal at your local grocery store, just tell em and most likely they will match their deal or beat it. and listen, it never hurts to ask!! Most of the vendors only accept cash, so make sure you stop at the ATM before you visit. They also have a seafood vendor. I'm kind of weird and have a hard time buying my seafood from anyone other than my local grocery store. There is also a little restaurant here, now I've never been in it because I just noticed it yesterday, so I can't tell ya any great suggestions :( maybe next time! On this visit, we ended up not buying anything. We came specifically for some peppers, but none of the vendors had any that didn't look old. It wasn't a wasted trip though, we scored a great deal on some strawberries! Make it a point to visit, you might be surprised at what you find!

  • Mark B.

This place is awesome and the fruit and veg are always fresh. Most are straight off the farms. Junior has been in the seafood business for 8-10 years and knows where and what to get. If you want it, he's your man he can get it. I go to the market maybe once every week for our veg for the house. I love to cook a fresh veg with dinners. It's a nice difference from the grocery store where everything is from this country or that country. I really like to shop local where possible.

    (5)
  • Kristina K.

HUGE selection of just about anything you can imagine. A lot of the vendors carry things you don't see at your "regular" grocery store and they're always willing to answer questions or give tips on how to cook various things. The prices just cannot be beat by the grocery store (some items, like spaghetti squash, will cost you half of what you pay at the grocery store). It's def gotten much busier on weekend mornings in the past couple of years but it's also grown in that time period.

    (4)
  • virgilio h.

Definetly my favorite place to get vegtables and fruits in Jacksonville. Like most markets sometimes the selection can be limited and not as plump and showy as large chain grocery stores. But it feels so good to be able to buy local. The vendors are friendly and helpful.

    (4)
  • Rita D.

FRESH FRESH AND MORE FRESH! All the previous reviewers hit the nail on the head with this place! The vendors are very friendly, the air is filled with the wonderful aromas of fruits and veggies, and the prices are unreal! I spent $30 on 3lbs of russet potatoes, 3 lbs of peaches, 1 lb of apples, 3 lbs of grapes, 1lb of oranges, 2 lbs of broccoli, 2 dozen eggs and a large bottle of locally made BBQ sauce. Hey, don't judge me; I love fruits and veggies the way fat kids love Twinkies...so I was definitely in Produce Heaven today! lol That 30 bucks spent at Publix, Walmart or the Commissary wouldn't have even gotten me half of what I brought home, so NO complaints here! Emily A. is also very right: don't be deceived by the looks on your way there...I almost did lol I was already a tad discouraged because of the distance (about 30 min from my house), but the sunny skies, warm breeze and light traffic helped me easily get over that. Then I hit the neighborhood...and I double checked my locks and kept my pepper spray within reach...it just looked so run down and deserted, especially for a Saturday!lol But just as Emily A stated, you feel a pleasant sense of security once you are in the spacious parking lot and once the fruits and veggies start calling your name, nothing else matters lol Be sure to bring cash, and I am going to take Emily A's advice and bring my reusable bags with me next time, otherwise you will be stuck with alot of plastic. Overall, just a wonderfully humble place with wonderfully hospitable people and prices your pockets will thank you for...what more do you want? :-)

Fruit and Veggie heaven! A wonderful selection of fresh fruits and veggies at great prices. The vendors are extremely friendly and helpful as well. Samples are encouraged by all of the vendors which is wonderful :). The only thing missing is more homemade goods. Like jellies, salsas, and such.

One of the joys of Jacksonville living is the variety of grocery options that are available to you, and I have to say that among those options the Jacksonville Farmer's Market is my absolute favorite. Veggies and fruits galore! My bill is never more than $30; However, I think it's only above $20 because I frequently become greedy in the view of the large variety of fruits and vegetables. Buying your veggies can feel like a back alley deal - the market has no frills and is in a fairly industrial area of town. Shop around if you choose, but I have a favorite vendor that I visit. She always gives me a great deal and throws in a few extra veggies at the end of the deal for good measure. Bring some cash (cash is king), some reusable grocery bags (save the planet, people) and make the drive down there (it's a bit out there if you don't live near downtown). You'll bag some veggie-loot for a steal.

  • Dale O.

This isn't a "farmers market" where you dress up in your best hipster garb, grab your little dog and go to buy scented soaps, beaded necklaces and croissants. This is a Farmers Market where you buy produce fresh from the farm, sometimes right from the back of the truck! FRESH seasonal fruits and veggies are what you'll get here. Our visit on Tuesday after MLK day netted us fresh locally grown collard and mustard greens ($2.50 a bunch), bell peppers (3/ $1.00), squash (both hard and crookneck varieties), cauliflower ($1), boiled peanuts, and a 25 pound box of Roma tomatoes from Immokalee FL for only $15! (do the math, I'll wait.) Put on comfortable clothes, leave Fifi at home, and venture to the other side of the tracks. The natives are very friendly there. And keep in mind that cash talks at this real farmers market. If you feel comfortable with that sort of thing, you can bargain, especially if you want to buy a lot. But even if you pay the asking price, you'll still be getting a great deal on the good stuff!

    (5)
  • Kaylin O.

I go here for the great prices on produce, and the social interaction with the vendors. It feels good to shop locally and you know what you're buying is in season (which also tends to make it much tastier!). The only thing I recommend is to really check what fruit and veggie you're buying to make sure they aren't moldy. It's harder to catch if you're buying in bulk. Be leary if someone is trying to sell you a whole package of strawberries for a dollar, or be aware they won't be perfect.

  • Jenn S.

Best farmer's market in Jacksonville. Hands down. This market has a good selection and occasionally the cheaper vendors will have select organic produce. Meteor Street Produce sells organic produce, but I feel like they're pricing is more than Whole Foods and WF is a couple miles from me. I can go to the Farmers Market with $20 and make out with a ton of produce! Some of the vendors take debit & credit options, but most only take cash. Don't worry. There's an ATM. Check our JR's Fish Stand. He has awesome prices for fish and will fillet the fish for you if you don't feel like being covered in scales! The pink snapper is my favorite.

  • Linda B.

I love this place. You can get local veg and fruits at a great price. The folks are really helpful. My husband comes here maybe once a week or so. On the weekends the place is packed and there are some vendors that only come out on weekends. The bread guys are there with some Killer stuff. We love the Spouses Bakery the best. You can't forget JR's Fresh Seafood either.

The Jacksonville Farmers Market provides an affordable option and diverse selection of the freshest fruits and vegetables! For less than $20, my wife and I brought home fresh okra, sweet peppers, garlic, juicy tomatoes, a shaven pineapple, eight apples, and plump strawberries. I appreciated the honesty of the merchants, who would willingly answer my questions regarding if certain produce were in season. Some even offer free samples. While the JFM boasts bountiful bushels of various healthy vegetables, there are other merchants offering different foods ranging from seafood, to delicious-looking baked bread and desserts, to boiled peanuts! Finally, with a large parking lot, I'm sure your visit to the Jacksonville Farmers Market will be an enjoyable experience!

The size of the produce coupled with good prices make a recipe for another visit. This place is a gem....well hidden gem to be further explored.

This is a place I always say I'm gonna go I'm gonna go. Well after years of saying that I finally went. I only had 20 dollars in cash with me and I was unsure if it was enough. I figured I could use the toddler and that to bargain with the farmers of price...Which I didn't have to do! I left with 4 filled up plastic bags of fresh produce! Cucumbers, broccoli, sweet potatoe, bananas, mushrooms, spinach, onions! The farmers were very chill and would add more stuff to my bag even after I purchased a product. I really only spent 8 bucks but I felt compelled to spend my 20 bucks hahah. It was awesome. The farmers said they receive their produce Thursday night so Fridays are the best days to go. I went on a Wed after the King Street Farmer's Market. Parking was fine no issues there. Now when I go to Publix I get very nauseous when I am in the produce section and see the prices. Go LOCAL...nuff said

First time at the Farmers Market today. I had to drag my husband, but my 3 yr old was very excited about the excursion. We spent $20 but we bought a refrigerator full of fruits & veggies. My 3 yr old especially loved the free samples. She was acting as if she hadn't ate in a week (even though we just left Chili's) so the vendor gave her a tangerine & a banana. It was definitely worth the drive.

  • Ed L.

    - FRESH - FRESH - FRESH - FRESH- Its doesn't get any fresher than this. Not that nature or physics or the produce gods allows for such a phenomenon. Of course nothing can get fresher than it was an hour ago, or even 5 minutes ago. So what I meant to say w

  • Patricia T.

I went there this week to get fresh zucchini, peppers and onions to make relish. The one merchant who had a box of zucchini to sell said they had been picked just yesterday and they were fresh. When I got them home to sort and clean, the bottom 1/3 of the box had already started to rot. The banana peppers had started to wrinkle already and one on the bottom of the basket had softened and started to rot. The tomatoes from TN were just as thick and tasteless as the ones in the store and the SC peaches never got juicy. Each of these vendors assured me that their produce was good. When I opened up the outer leaves of the cabbage, one whole side was rotted and I had to discard 1/4 of it to get down to good leaves. When I went in to buy fresh shelled peas, the woman wasn't interested in helping the 'blonde' but eventually allowed me to buy them. Overall, not a good shopping experience. I love canning and putting up seasonal food to enjoy later, but don't want to waste the time or money on produce that is already going bad.

  • Hilary L.

This place cannot be beat! Great produce at super low prices, open 7 days a week, and totally hassle free. Seriously. My last trip netted me: 8 kiwi fruits 5 beefsteak tomatoes 2 lbs of onions 1 large red bell pepper [$3.99 at Publix right now] 1 lb of mushrooms 3 huge yellow squash Total cost: $8.75. And its not all about the haggling, because I usually pay what they ask unless the price seems crazy high in which case I just check at another stall. Honestly, most of these people are hardworking merchants and I'm sure they need the 50 cents I could haggle them out of more than I do. Besides they're already asking from a third to a tenth of what you'd pay at Publix, so if you're not a haggling type don't worry--you'll still get insane deals here. Best of all, the whole trip took me about 15 minutes, including parking and walking. While you definitely could spend hours here, its also easy to run in and grab what looks best and leave. No lines, no hassle, you are seriously missing the boat if you don't take advantage of the Jacksonville Farmers Market.

    (5)
  • David K.

As others have noted, this is a genuine farmer's market. For 10 bucks we got enough produce to last us a few days, and it's all fresh. Yes, you can haggle, but the prices already seem cheap enough. Best of all, it's open almost all the time. Wish I'd found this place earlier. We'll be making it a regular stop from now on.

  • Felicity B.

This market is awesome. A couple of the reviewers made it out to be like I would be driving through compton, Los Angeles or East San Diego (yes, I'm from SoCal) but I didn't find the neighborhood "sketchy", lol. Maybe a little run down and low income but that's about it. As for the market, I couldn't have asked for better. Awesome prices, huge selection and most of the vendors are really nice. It is open until 7 but the later you go, the less selection because not all vendors stay there that late. Spent $20, got tons of veggies/fruits, the same stuff I used to get at the supermarket for $80. Definitely recommend.

    (5)
  • Chelsea S.

I feel like a lot of this stuff is brought in from the grocery store. But it's fun to go walk around and get some cheap produce.
