Great bbq! The pulled pork was perfect. I'll be back for the buffet next week! The service was good small quiet and family style.

Delicious food and great service! My husband and I shared pulled pork and ribs, which were very juicy and tasty. The kids had flatbread pizzas, which the waitress had recommended, and devoured them quickly, pronouncing them "goooood and very filling". We will definitely be back!

Hickory House is a regular stop on my lunch route. For a BBQ place, they have outstanding fried chicken and a fine hamburger, in addition to the 'que. They've added a buffet (see "chicken", above) that usually has 3 or 4 meat selections, and several veggies, as well as a salad and soup bar. At around ten bucks for all you can eat, it's a bargain. I often go back for seconds on just the veggies... They're located in the triangle where Bulls Bay peels away from Beaver, a free-standing building between the Subway and the (now abandoned) Food Lion.

So I find myself this far below the Mason Dixon Line....OF couse I got to find me some BBQ!!! Hickory House is a nice homey southern style establishment. The second you walk you get genuine 'HI Y'all! Yup, we are in the south now! Super friendly service here. The decor is redolent with various taxidermy animal heads wearing hats which I though was fun. Went with the ribs and beef combo. Ribs were great! Nice moist, not too mushy, good and smokey. They do sauce on the side here, a testimony to their efforts in the smokehouse. Nice smoke line evident in the meat. The sliced beef was a bit on the dry side. And would stick to the ribs next time. Haven't really had great beef brisket BBQ outside of texas to be honest. Wouldn't mind hitting this place up again if I was back in the area! location is actually at 8209 Beaver St., Jacksonville, Fl,32220

We found the chicken & beef to be dry, and the green beans were canned. Don't believe Yelp saying this place is Gluten Free; I asked the waitress and she had no idea what I was talking about (subsequently my chicken came out with bread on top after I told her to hold the bread). Service was ok. Our waitress seemed to be having a bad day and was slightly annoyed at us taking a while to decipher the menu.

This update reflects the results of my independent Jax. Rib Off. Five slabs from five different restaurants were test tasted by 11 hand picked rib experts. Hickory Hut - Tenderness - 5.0, Smokey Taste - 3.8, Moistness - 4.8, Fat Content - 4.6 and Personal Preference - 3.9 Overall Average - 4.4. Comments: There was a collective Ummmmm! around the table as each of us took the first bite. Looking around the table, it was apparent how much most enjoyed this one and there were facial expressions to match. The folks over at HH have some kind of genius process going on that makes their ribs taste and eat like baby backs. Falling off the bone delicious (FOTB). These ribs tied with Treemendous on tenderness but have been awarded my Top Rib In Jax by a margin of .1 points. Highly recommended. Going on only a hunch, I have accidentally uncovered another hidden diamond in the ruff in the world of Jax BBQ. If physical location and appearance were chief qualities in picking a restaurant, then you would not drive there or you may drive right on past when you arrived. Don't be fooled, they have magic ribs happening inside. This joint's in a converted house in the heart of Marietta, on the corner of Baymar and Cahoon doesn't purport to be anything more, or offer any false pretence. The only thing fancy here is the hospitality and the good ole, down home, pit smoked Que. Having only been around for three years, they have somehow perfected the art of cooking the perfect pork spare rib. Yes they made my list. 5 Stars - PORK SPARE RIBS - Best way to describe these tender meaty bones is, they are like large baby backs. FOTB delicious. Details to follow in my Jax Rib Off findings. 2 Stars - PULLED PORK - Shallow smoky taste and I prefer it more tender and moist. 5 Stars - COLESLAW - Loved it, can't be improved. 3 Stars - BAKED BEANS - At first taste, hoo-hum. Seemed as though they came from the Libby's can. But with a second glance, they seemed to grow on me, especially after I poured some hot mustard sauce in them. 4 Stars - MENU SELECTION - Pork, Beef, Ribs, Turkey and Chicken, Hamburgers and BBQ Salads. Sandwiches, dinners and combo plates, all at very reasonable prices. 5 Stars - CLEANLINESS - One observation I always take into consideration in Jax. restaurants is how clean the food prep and eating areas are. HH is Pristine. I tasted the Brunswick Stew and the Nana Puddin while I was there. Both were delicious. They will be moving to a better location on Beaver St. next to Food Lion, around January but I'm sure I will be updating this review to announce the new address. If you need catering, they apparently do a great job.
