When I was in town visiting my girlfriend, I actually had a fairly hard time hunting down a well-reviewed takeout in her area. Green Lake popped up in a few searches on various websites, so I thought I'd give it a try. It seemed that I found just the right place, as they seemed to offer exactly what I needed at a reasonable price. In addition to the price, the food looked and tasted fresh in a way that some Chinese takeout simply doesn't hit. The meat was cut to a fairly uniform size, so we didn't have to hope for the best in downing a few pieces of sesame chicken that looked like abstract art. Beyond that, the food seemed prepared to order, with crisp (and more importantly not soggy!) vegetables. I'll definitely be dropping by Green Lake again in the future.

I don't know how I've lived in this area for nearly 3 years and just discovered this place. As others have stated it's a small space so its real niche (like most) is take out. Tonight's fare included the Beef and Broccoli combo (served with friend rice and an egg roll), Stir Fry Chicken and Veggies combo along with Crab Rangoon and Wonton Soup. The Wonton soup was the best I've had. It was flavorful without the heavy saltiness experienced elsewhere. The Rangoon had the right cheese to crab ratio and was the right amount of crispiness for my taste. The entrees were generous and enough for two adults to share when ordering the apps and soup. The meat in both entrees was very tender and flavorful while the veggies retained their crispiness. I will definitely take out again from Green Lake and look forward to trying more things.

I guess I agree with the other reviews. Let me first say, this is still take out Chinese. However, it was the first Chinese place in quite some time that I haven't felt totally awful about going into and didn't feel incredibly awful after eating. They seem to add in free stuff to orders all the time. It's close by and when I get that craving this is a good stop.

Have extremely quick service, cheap, and good food. Even though they don't deliver, I can't complain because they're only a .5 mile from me. The owner is extremely nice and is always in a good mood. Even though I get the same thing pretty much every time, sometimes I branch out and try something new. No matter what I try it is always delicious, especially the sweet donuts.

Best Chinese in town! I had given up on finding a good Chinese restaurant until I tried Green Lake. My favorite is the Singapore Mei Fun with shrimp & extra veggies. Fantastic service & fresh delicious food.

The best Chinese food in Jax, period. The people who run it are incredibly nice and everything we've ever ordered is delicious. PRO TIP- they have shrimp sauce. Don't be a dink. Get some.

No idea why there are 1 star reviews for this place, it's damn good Chinese food. Only reason they lose a star from me is they don't deliver, and sometimes they forget my free eggroll. On my most recent trip, me and the ex gf got the Chicken Lo-Mein, cheese fried wontons, and fried dumplings (jiaozi.) The noodles and chicken were tender, the dumplings were overstuffed and the wrapper had just the right amount of give to it. The wontons were not leathery, and they also appeared to be overstuffed, at least in comparison to the other restaurants i've visited. Prices are average, we got out of there for 17 bucks including tax. This place is damn near hidden in the Publix shopping center on 1-17, but worth the drive. I only wish they would deliver, they would make a ton of money from lazy people like me. Oh and recently they got online ordering, which is awesome.

I read the mixed reviews on green lake but decided to give it a try. The staff was very friendly and the place looked clean and there were no funky smells. I ordered the chicken lo mein and wontons. The lo mein was disappointing. The chicken was bland and chewy and the noodles weren't good either. The wontons were decent although I've had much better. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy my meal enough to finish it and I won't return.

It's acceptable American Chinese, but I don't eat it often. They are fast and cheap. You're guaranteed a free egg roll or two. I recommend sticking with classic dishes like sweet and sour, General Tso, etc. We made the mistake of getting creative and we paid, dearly. They also don't deliver, so Yelp needs to fix that.

I wanted to try another Chinese restaurant asides from the usual ones I go to on the westside and based on the reviews, I decided on Green Lake Chinese. What's cool is you can order online from their website which is nice; however, it was just as easy for me to pick up the phone and make my order. The website is actually great to know your options, their prices, for special instructions & to get you psyched up for some good Chinese food. It's a nice convenience. :) Like always, I ordered the General Tso's Chicken & an Orange Chicken and they were both delicious! They do offer healthier options, too, but I was in my "sauced up fried chicken" mode. Like other reviewers have said, this is a great place for take-out with very friendly service. The food is fresh and fast! There is ample parking as it is located in the same block of the Publix shopping center, but closer to Roosevelt in the back left hand corner--it's kinda' hidden so you have to look. The best part is that they are open late. Overall, great experience and I would definitely order from here again.

Decided to give this spot a shot since we were in the area and it got great reviews on Yelp. Unsure if we just hit on a bad day or if this is typical for this restaurant, but we were not impressed. Had an order of crab rangoons, orange chicken, General Tso chicken, and sweet and sour chicken. The crab rangoons had no taste of crab and very little filling at all. The chicken in the Orange and Tso was chewy and dry. There was no taste of orange at all, and the Tso was not at all spicy and was very bland. THe sweet and sour was typical for a Chinese take-out restaurant, breaded with a side of red sauce. Nothing super exciting here. All in all Yelp mislead us on this spot and we won't be back.

Sad to say that I'm confused to see so many good reviews. Everything my husband and I had was absolutely terrible and we're not picky. Wontons tasted burnt, noodles were thick and tasted like plastic, the egg rolls were indescribably bad. We threw out a lot of uneaten food. Total waste...

This place is perfect for cheap, easy take out. I've definitely had higher quality Chinese food before (maybe not in Jacksonville), but this isn't that kind of place. This is a "I can't handle cooking dinner tonight, lets get something that goes well with a 6-pack" kind of place, and its always exactly what you expect, quick and with polite service. The crab rangoon are a perfect example of this- nothing fancy, cheap cheese and some crab-like substance in an average shell with red corn syrup dipping sauce, but always perfectly fried and hot. The kind of thing that is delicious but makes you feel guilty for ingesting so much grease in one sitting. The beef sticks are the only thing we don't care for- chewy and blah. And I wish they had scallion pancakes. But otherwise, a solid go-to.

As others have commented... this is a very typical Chinese fast food (primarily takeout) place... Some are better, some are worse. Here's why this place will get my return business: While the food was OK, the staff are great and the prices are much better than most other Chinese restaurants. A full dinner combination for between $6.00 and $7.50, including fried rice and an egg roll, is great. So if you're nearby, hungry, and don't feel like cooking, Green Lake is worth a try.

My wife and I walked in here the other day, to be greeted by an over powering smell of old nasty fish....needless to say, we walked out....

I was visiting the area and by the time my flight got in the first night, I was starving. The answer? Greasy, delicious Chinese food before passing out. I used trusty old Yelp to find a well rated restaurant near where I was staying, and this one popped up .5 miles away. I called in an order on my way from the airport, and when I arrived about ten minutes later it was ready. The inside is pretty small, I'm assuming most people order to go as well, although I'd be ok with that since usually when I'm eating Chinese food I also want to be sitting on my couch. Anyway, the woman working at the front greeted me and brought my order over, verifying the contents. The price was average and we ended up having a funny conversation...she asked about the weather outside, and I said it seemed ok but I'm from California so it's a bit different. She says she visited CA once, Sacramento to be exact...I told her that's exactly where I'm from! She wished me a good night and sent me out the door smiling, and this isn't even the most important part yet (I can take bad customer service if the food is good). The food was AMAZING. I had Kung pao shrimp and vegetable chow fun, and everything just tasted so fresh and somehow healthy. The vegetables were crunchy and overall it just didn't have that heavy, gross, greasy feeling Chinese food usually has. And yeah, that's what I thought I wanted but once you start eating that you realize how awful you feel. The portions were great to save a bit for lunch the next day as well. I'm so happy Yelp didn't steer me wrong and if I was local I'd definitely frequent this place!

Everyone knows Chinese takeout is a pretty standard fare. So I can say I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in Green Lake to pick up an order and the amazing smell of delicious fresh garlic and spices was overcoming me. Thought this was a step above the rest. Will definitely check it out again one Lazy Sunday :)

I'll go out of my way to get Chinese food from this place. They have some pretty authentic stuff and the owner's very nice. It's unfortunate that it's just take out and not a nicer sit-down place (though they do have some tables and chairs but it's not a nice sit-down environment). Thank goodness for this place as I really miss me some good Chinese food.

Great choice for Chinese take out. I went based on a few other reviews I read on yelp. I walked in on a Saturday evening without phoning in my order ahead, but my order was up fast and they threw in a few egg rolls for free. Reasonably priced, the place is clean and has just a few tables if you want to eat there. I got the Szechuan Beef and the Sesame Chicken. Both came with steamed rice. Everything was fresh; the vegetables were cooked, but still crisp. And the flavors were spot on. I mean, I'm no expert on Chinese cuisine, but I likey. I'll be returning here next time I'm in the mood for Chinese take out.

Definitely the best traditional Chinese take out I've had in Jacksonville. The only thing I've eaten here that I don't like is the chicken teriyaki.

I've picked this place several times and have always had food that tasted hot and fresh compared to most other Chinese take-outs. I call ahead and my food is always ready within 15 minutes.

Turns out there is such thing as good Chinese takeout. I know, I know. It's shocking. Solid Yelp reviews led me and my favorite friend-couple to Green Lake Chinese Restaurant last night. It was a long weekend, and we wanted to chill out with piles of food and rent a Christopher Guest movie OnDemand. After consulting Yelp, we decided it was worth the 5-10 minute drive from Riverside to scoop up something we'd never tried before. As soon as I set foot in the tiny, strip-mall spot I knew we'd made an inspired decision. No, the view was nothing spectacular; just your standard counter with pictures of the dishes on a light-up board overhead. But the smells, oh the smells! That place was doling out free olfactory orgasms, and all we could do was hope that the delicious garlicky aromas were originating from our order. After waiting in line 5 minutes for our food (we called ahead) we were back in the car and headed home. Once there, we laid out our feast and propped up our feet. Orange Chicken with fried rice, Moo Shu Pork, and Vegetable Lo Mein comprised the sizeable entree options, while (free!) egg rolls and Crab Rangoons rounded out the lighter fare. First up, Orange Chicken; crispy-delicious with a hint of citrus. Why does theirs beat other places? It wasn't over-sauced or over-breaded. This dish is never going to be healthy, but Green Lake does it right and let's the flavors and textures speak for themselves. The fried rice was of the yellow variety, and also very tasty. Next, Veggie Lo Mein; slippery, saucy, and scrumptious. The veggies were just the right softness vs. crispness, and they also nailed the ever elusive perfect noodle texture. We all know what this classic dish tastes like and, apparently, Green Lake does too. Solid and satisfying. The Mu Shoo Pork lived up to its name and ended up being pretty mushy. Flavors were still nice, but this dish was my least favorite of the three. Alright, now on to the apps. But, Katie, Shouldn't the apps have come first? Do you want to hear about them or not!?!? Sheesh. Anyways. The Egg Rolls... so good! Crisp and crunchy and not at all tasting like they had been under a heat lamp for two weeks. Nope, real good stuff. I don't know what they put in their sweet and sour sauce, but it looks like blood and tastes like heaven. I need to find me a bottle of that. Finally, the Rangoons (or as my friends were calling them, "Rainguns") I usually do not care for this appetizer AT ALL. I have a hate/love relationship with cream cheese, and most of the time, when I bite into a rangoon, I get a sickening sensation of a cream cheese bomb exploding all over my mouth. Awful and overwhelming. But no, Green Lake's were actually quite appetizing. The crab to cream cheese ratio was a solid 1:1 and they tasted freshly fried. Kudos to Green Lake for changing my mind on a deep-seated dislike! All in all, not a date night place (there's one table!) or anything close to a memorable atmosphere, but the food is solid. It's not over-salted, greasy, or more fattening than it needs to be, which is saying a whole hell of a lot for a Chinese takeout place in a strip mall. I'll be going back on another lazy Sunday, mark my words.

Yummy Chinese takeout! Broccoli with Garlic Sauce is delicious. Tofu with Mixed Veggies is also fresh and has a nice light sauce. So many options to choose from. The sweet dessert buns are awesome!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
