Diabetics at Whataburger

Diabetics need to be a bit cautious while dining at Whataburger. However, you can always satisfy your cravings for a burger by choosing Whataburger Jr. or other non-burger items from the menu.

A diabetic should resist from ordering any extra meat-based burger such as Double Meat Whataburger or Triple Meat Whataburger to limit the sodium intake and calories. Most burgers except the Whataburger Jr. are high in sodium and hence should be avoided.

Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

Whatacatch Dinner may sound tempting but the famous fish sandwich is also full of calories and unhealthy fat. We had an awful experience! We came into the restaurant and my first impression was:This doesn't look like a German restaurant and why are there empty tables with left over food everywhere...we waited for a long time for our food.We ordered the Pretzel and the Flammkuchen as an appetizer. The Pretzel had a lot of butter and salt on it and the Flammkuchen cannot be compared with a German Flammkuchen. It was more like a flatbred but it tastes well. Our main dishes were Schnitzel with Potato salad and Spätzle and the Käsespätzle. The Käsespätzle were so terrible.I had two bites and couldn't eat any more.It was more like a stew and it was cheap Hollandaise sauce instead of homemade sauce and I am German and I do not know Käsespätzle with sauce at all.The Schnitzel was ok but the side Spätzle were bad and the potato salad just didn't taste like any German potato salad. The service was terrible and when we left, the tables were still not cleaned up

The blonde waitress is phenoms. Great beer knowledge and personality. The last two trips have been quite enjoyable. Came in for lunch today and was delighted w the options.

This was our first time experiencing German food and boy was it delicious. We shared the Schnitzel Haus Platter it is basically a combination plate that had a great variety of different authentic German food. My favorite was jagerschnitzel so lightly battered and fried and oh so good (as I'm writing this my mouth is watering), the frikadelle (meatballs) were my second favorite. Everything was just so good. If you have never had German food I highly recommend the Schnitzel Haus Platter since it does have such a great sampling of German food. It is way more than enough for two! The service was great and they were very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. They have great beer specials too!

Was here a year ago and it has vastly improves. So good to have authentic food again from home. The food was cooked well and was freshly prepared. jager schnitzel was delicious. Weiner schnitzel was nice crispy and hot served with lemon. The desserts were fabulous and homemade. Good to have this restaurant back where it should be!

I love their new location! I sat outside on the patio, it was a very nice spot to have a beer. I enjoyed their bratwurst meal and I cannot wait to return. I will save room for dessert.

Eaten here many times over the years and food as been mostly good and authentic. Tonight they touted new chef from culinary school. Bad news! Ordered potato pancake and got some unknown ball of mush. Chef "trying new things". Don't want experimental "Top Chef" BS when I go out for ethnic food. They need to go back to traditional food or rebrand themselves as a Germanish fusion yuppie snobby foodie restaurant. Please get the old cook back and give her a raise.

German Schnitzel Haus' stripmall location (and eyebrow-raising "And Brick Oven Pizza" exterior sign) shouldn't deter you: this place feels like the German embassy of Jacksonville. There's a solid selection of German beers (served in German 0.5L glasses), a richness of German paraphernalia on the walls ... and great food. I'm not Professor German Food over here but I enjoyed everything we were served immensely (Bavarian appetizer platter, Schnitzel Haus Platter, apple strudel). But hey, I'm going to be insufferable for a second and play the "I've visited X" card: I spent a week in Berlin for a business trip last year, so I do have something to compare against. We visited on a Sunday night; there were about 5-6 other tables taken and service was prompt and friendly. Dinner prices aren't cheap - you're looking at $13-20 a person here - but it seems like we're all conditioned to expect the word "fusion" or a squirt of truffle oil on our plate when we pay $19 for an entrée. So don't stress out, this is high-quality food, even if your jager schnitzel isn't as fancy-looking as you're used to. If there's one even semi-negative thing to mention: we ordered a side of sauerkraut that ran $2.99 for a pretty small amount. (It was delicious, though - from what I can tell, good sauerkraut is closer to cooked cabbage, more tender than the stuff they plop on your plate at European Street.) The menu says beers are 10% off if you bring your own stein, and it just so happens that I have one of those. My stein and I are looking forward to it.

We eat out at least once a week and have our old stand bys, but we like to try new foods and restaurants to expand our list. We usually use a Groupon or some other similar discount to make the adventure more palatable in case the meal is not so palatable. And if the meal is enjoyable, the discount makes the experience that much better! Unfortunately for the Schnitzel Haus, they fall into the first category. If we had paid full price I would have been even more unhappy. The best part of the night was the server. She was knowledgeable and prompt, as well as friendly. That's where the praise ends. My companion and I ordered the pretzel appetizer to tide us over until our meal arrived. It was warm on the outside and cold on the inside. It reminded us of the frozen pretzels you buy at SAMs Club and heat up at home. Maybe the oven wasn't hot enough, because the pizza was even more disappointing. It came to the table a full 10 minutes after our other dish was served. The crust was doughy and under cooked. You could not pick up a slice and eat it with your hands, it drooped like a limp noodle. Between the 2 of us we only finished 1 1/2 slices. When the waitress asked if we wanted to box it up to take home both of us responded no in unison. She spoke to someone in the back and it was taken off our bill. The other dish we had was the bratwurst plate. It was cooked well, had a nice bed of sauerkraut and a side of fried potatoes. We would order this again if we ever go back. I guess when you go to a German restaurant you should stick to German food.

This was the worst restaurant I have been to in a long time. The horrible experience started out with the server never bringing us our beers. Then the server gives my order to another table and argues with me that I ordered beef when I ordered a sausage. She then tries to serve me someone else's order which was wrong also. Finally she takes the plate into the kitchen and comes back 5 minutes later telling me that it was a new fresh order but it was the exact same order as the first time. The server then did not want to remove the charge despite me never getting my food or drinks. In short I wish to help others avoid this dismal excuse for a restaurant. You will be netter off going to McDonalds at least they will get your order correct

We stopped by here today on a fact finding mission for a future venue for our dIning club. Based on first impressions this probably will not be the spot. 2 patrons at the bar no patrons at the tables. In all honesty it may have been a little late for the lunch crowd, but there are a large number of retired in that area that may want to call it dinner. We were promptly greeted big smile which quickly disappeared when I asked for a to go menu. Smile went away and the person attempted to do so as well but I was after all on a mission so I called her back and asked for the real menu.. Her first remark after my request " we don't serve Pizza anymore" Uhm I think. I'm in a place called Hause do you really think were looking for pizza? The menu was full of items foriegn to me but that's why we try different places. I did inquire about reservations which was a yes, but she had no idea how many people they could accommodate. So I threw out my 10 number and took a spin around the room to see if that was a reality. Decore was pretty uninspired especially for being in a new hard to find location . Many of the reviews on social media are less than stellar So now unless my group beats me up about commibg here it's off the list.

The first time I visited my wife and I stopped in for lunch. We were greeted and waited on by a matronly German woman who embodied the term "Frau." On our second visit, we were also waited on by a foreigner, this time a young lady of Eastern European heritage. I truly appreciated interacting with this staff , which matched up so well with the restaurant itself. As for the food, both times it was excellent. The first meal for me was the Jagerschnitzel , and I found the sauce to be wonderful. I also shared an apple strudel that day , which without exaggeration was possibly the best I have ever eaten. On my second visit I chose the Sauerbraten. The sauce, made with a wine base, was perfect and the meat extremely tender. The sides, red cabbage and dumplings were also delicious. I'd be remiss not to mention the bread , which is made in a pretzel style and comes with a side of garlic butter. I debated giving it 4 or 5 stars and if 4.5 was possible that would be the rating. I am withholding the 5th due to the fact that I felt the dinner pricing was a bit high, especially compared to the decor and style of service. If this was purely for a lunch review, it would receive the full 5 stars. I'll definitely return and take others with me. I lived in Germany and have been there 7 times since. This is the best german food outside of Europe I have tatsed.

The brick oven pizza sign kept me from thinking this was authentic German fare. Wrong! Today we dropped by for lunch on the recommendation of a friend. Excellent recommendation. We each had gulasch (entree, not the soup), she with spaetzle and I with potato dumplings. Delicious. Added a side of Bratkartoffeln (go carbs! so natuerlich haben wir nicht "die Fettkartoffel" [letztes Stueck] gegessen) and -- just because it's Fasching and we haven't had them in years, tried a couple of potato pancakes with applesauce. Excellent food, well-prepared, a delightfully sociable waitress, and nice, gasthaus-like atmosphere (without a long wait between ordering and eating). If they were closer to home, we would soon be joining their Stammtisch. The sole disappointment was Haus Salad. It was a house salad, fresh and tasty, but all too American for that name. We rather expected a typisch Kohlsalat with some cabbage and perhaps sugarbeet. All in all a very pleasant visit and a place to which we shall return when on that side of town again.

For a place that's really striving for authentic, the new location is void of the old world charm that my favorite German restaurants have (and I'm talking Milwaukee not Epcot). The staff is friendly, and our waitress was, I think, 100% German. Nice touch! While the kitchen had no trouble cranking out food and beer arrived at our table quickly, I'd say the waitstaff was stretched thin for a Saturday night (it was crowded). I was pleased with the full compliment of German beers and a pretty complete menu. The food was good not great but served hot and with a smile. I'd definitely go back! Nice patio and live band. Glad to have a German restaurant in Jax!

This was my first German restaurant in many years and it was a very disappointing experience. The German potato salad tasted like boiled potatoes sprinkled with vinegar and heated in a microwave. Very bland. The dumplings tasted like Play Dough and the sausage had a very unpleasant taste which lingered for several hours. After three bites,I told my wife I was finished with my meal. Surprisingly. She said she hated the place and was also ready to leave. I told the lone server we did not care for our meals and she suggested we try the pork chop next time. There will not be a next time! This is my first one star rating and well deserved. Are half stars available?

While the combo of German and brick pizza has prevented me from coming for years, a groupon enticed me tonight. So glad it did! We are thrilled with the find. We shared the house salad that was beautifully presented with bacon wrapped feta on top. The creaminess of the cheese played off the grilled bacon and melted in my mouth. I want to recreate at home! The dressing was delicious as well. Perfectly balanced of vinegar and sugar. We will return to try the pizza!

I have just finished eating roughly an hour ago, yet the thought of my meal is actually causing me salivate a little. I was not sure what to expect coming here but hey, why not make the drive nothing better was in the plans for the evening and I was hungry ! The outside is a little questionable, but once I opened the door some little kid inside me did a double take and cheered a little. The decor is fun, festive German pub style. The selection of German Beers on tap was good, and the waitress helped clear up what was what on the beer list. The real star here is the food. First was the potato pancake, I was impressed that for once it didn't resemble a crape but rather a hearty pancake. The applesauce sounds odd I know, but is not a bad side. However it pales in comparison to the sour cream and herb mix they also serve along with it. The Frikadelle was very good, but I was not feeling a meatloaf style meat so to me sampling it provoked no more than the "ehhh pretty good "reaction. Now the Rindsroulade was plate-licking good (yes I did actually contemplate licking my plate in the restaurant ..I can't be alone in this thought when it comes to good food) the meat was tender, perfectly cooked, full of flavor and juices and pretty much melted in my mouth. It is a meal my grandmother has made for me many times when I was kid but never have I found anyplace that recreates it so well. I am very much looking forward to going back and trying their other dishes though the challenge will be to not order to Rindsroulade time and again. If you find yourself with room for desert their apple strudel truly is worth a taste. Do they sell their whipped cream by the tub I wonder? Do note the strudel contains almond chunks, and is lacking in raisins soaked in rum. But maybe it was just my family that would go bat crazy with wilted grapes when making strudel. All in all it is great food, fun staff, and a good time to be had. (the good time can and may be greatly influenced by the company you choose to bring with you so, pick your guests wisely ! )

Not as good as it used to be. Spatzel was over cooked mushy bland and cold. Jager schnitzel was okay but wouldn't come back for it. Received my dinner before I got my drink.

I had heard good things about the pizza here so we ordered one for take out. The restaurant itself is pretty small but feels cozy and the owners are very nice. The German food going out to the tables looked quite good. The pizza was very yummy, probably one of the best we have tried in Jax. The sauce has a little bit of a sweet taste which I liked. It make great leftovers!! Sometimes, leftover pizza can be a bit gross but this was even better on day two.

The service was unforgivably bad. We waited for over an hour and never got drinks. I had been here before, years earlier, and had a great experience. I don't know if the management changed, but the spirit of the restaurant certainly did. I hope that things revert, but I'm not holding my breath.

I've come here several times now.... just about every time I come to Jax to visit family. The serve a solid schnitzel, and the beer is good. I've had several items on the menu, and most of their draught beer offerings.... everything has been pretty good. Come hungry! The service is a little more on the European side.... meaning you may sit there for a little while. Usually this doesn't concern me at all. I'm talking with friends/family and having a good time. But this last time, we had to get going after our meal, and we had to ask for the check three times before they got around to us. Not a big deal, but something you should be aware of. One complaint would be that the menu doesn't necessarily match what is actually available. About half the draught beers on the menu weren't available last time I visited. Recommend!!

This is our 3rd visit and i know now most of the food is prepared ahead of time. Each and every visit the food is barely warm. what a turn off and a food safety issue. I believe we have given them enough chances. The beer selection is nice. Perhaps we will visit for drinks.

My Husband and I had a groupon for this place and its one place we've never been to before. We watch a lot of shows that rate restaurants so we know what to look for & we are both pretty good at rating restaurants. The bad side: #1 The hostess was very helpful. She took our name and said we would get a table soon as one opened. She sat us on the bench in the corner with drinks. She was a little too bouncy which was unprofessional but given she was young I guess it came with age. She then sat a couple that came in after us, I thought that was a bit rude. #2 The place is WAY too small for the amount of people that come there. It would be better if they could get a better size restaurant OR a better set up. There's a lot of room they could use for customers If they placed the tables correctly. #3 The size of the platters does not match the prices. They should either drop the prices or make them larger. Both would bring more business. #4 The salads where the only huge item. The couple next to us ordered a salad, this thing was a mountain of salad. That should actually be downsized. #5 Either make it a German restaurant OR a Pizzeria. The pizza doesn't fit. If you ditched the pizza that would make room on the menu for more true German food. #6They need a place for customers waiting to sit like maybe a better bar? Hence why they need a bigger place. And when they have a band , I have NO clue where they set up. #7 Free wifi would also be great for customers. EVERYONE has free wifi these days. The good side: #1 My husband LOVED the beer he got which was a Hacker. #2 The food even though small was excellent. I've never had true German food and loved the vegetarian dish. #3 They actually HAVE vegetarian dishes. #4 The waitress was very friendly, and helpful telling us to get there early or very late to get seats. #5 I loved the servers outfits, they were cute and whimsical and fit the theme. But the decorations were REALLY bad. It just looked old. Fresh paint and color would help. All in all we had a great time, Great food and drink and will be back. I hope they read the reviews and take mine to heart. With a few tweaks they could have something really great.

The first time I walked into "German Schnitzel Haus and Brick Oven Pizzeria" my inner monologue started yelling at me: it's in a strip mall it's dinner rush time and nobody's in here the decor looks like a rejected German theme restaurant at Epcot insert bad jokes about Germans and ovens oh no the staff is wearing Halloween costume polyester dirndls is there going to be bratwurst pizza we should leave etc. Despite a running mental dialogue of concerns (and other bad jokes), I still wanted to give it a try because I'm not German and don't really know anything about German food. I guess I assumed it was all going to be sausages. After you sit down they'll usually bring out a basket of pretzel bites (with a delicious herb butter) for you to munch on while you look over the menu. The food IS quite heavy on meat, but fortunately not all of it is in tube form! If you can't or won't eat meat, the potato pancakes are good, but seem to lack that "stick to your ribs" quality -- they make a better appetizer than an entree because you'll probably be hungry again shortly after. The food has been consistently good, fast, and not pricey. We've made this a semi-regular stop on our dining rotation (usually in winter because I feel like heavy food is more appealing in cold weather). So far I've had the jagerschnitzel, weisswurstchen, and sauerbraten. I think the weisswurst might actually be my favorite, even after expressing my initial lack of interest in German sausages. My favorite side is the homemade sauerkraut; it's spiced with cloves and served hot. Be aware that there's no attempt at presentation here. Meat and sides thrown on a plate, the end. No artful arrangements, trendy sauce reductions drizzled about or elaborate garnish sculptures or whatever. I've never ordered the pizza, but my guy did -- and yes, they actually have an "Oktoberfest" pizza on the menu. It comes with bratwurst, bologna, currywurst, and frankfurters on top. It basically looked like a pizza covered in hot dogs. I didn't think it was bad, but it was too greasy for me. I'd still suggest trying it. The only thing I would NOT suggest is the "Apple Walnut" salad -- I was severely disappointed that "fresh mixed greens" was a euphemism for "room temperature iceberg lettuce". I haven't ordered any of the other salads for this reason. If you're a fan of German beers they have a great selection on tap. Spaten Optimator is always a good choice. And save room for apple strudel!

Nice atmosphere on the side Porch. The beer is good however the service is very slow. The brats were cold and served without a bun. Probably better places in town for a brat and sauerkraut.

So, my husband and I have lived in Hungary and Belgium, so we feel we have a pretty decent grasp on European cooking. Folks, this is not it. My husband was really excited about the prospects of a restaurant with some home-cooked European yumminess. So, he bought a Groupon for $15 for $30 value. We went during lunch. We ordered a lemonade and sweet tea (both which tasted funny), then we ordered some potato pancakes for an appetizer, I ordered a soup and 1/2 sandwich combo (potato soup and schnitzel sandwich), and my husband ordered their Jager schnitzel. When I asked if the potato soup was a creamy, sour cream based soup, the waitress said "I have no idea." Seriously? Isn't that your job? Anyway, first thing to come out was a soup. She brought a whole bowl, which I just attributed to large portion sizes. The carrots and potatoes weren't cooked all the way through. Next, they brought out a full sandwich for me, and my husband's schnitzel. His came with fries and red cabbage. He actually saw them put the cabbage in the microwave before bringing it out, and throughout our dinner, we saw them using it. The waitress asked if we wanted ketchup, we said yes, and also, could we have our appetizer please. Well, the ketchup never came, and the appetizer came out well after we were done with our main meals, and was soggy and greasy in the middle. We went to pay, and they said we bought the wrong Groupon, although we showed them the guidelines that ours said, and it didn't match up with what they had, so they wouldn't make good on it. So, we ended up paying another $25 dollars, for crappy food. Not happy, and not going back. Awful service, subpar food. Don't waste your time or money.

When I first walked in, the atmosphere was very good. The tables are placed close together so it almost feels like a large family gathering. I ordered a Bavarian appetizer and the Jagerschnitzel. From here, things went downhill. The wait time was extremely LONG. After I placed my order, it took a good 15-20 minutes to receive my salad that came with the Jagerschnitzel. It was a fairly simple chopped salad with a cup of dressing. I wondered what took so long. About 20 minutes after that, I got my Bavarian appetizer. That consisted of a variety of sausages. The sausages were about a foot long, yet very thin. There was also some small Bologna slices. The flavor for all of them were great, but the problem(aside from the wait time) was the price. They charge $10 for two thin sausages and two small slices(think Canadian Bacon from the Egg McMuffin-size) of German Bologna. So, 10-15 minutes after the appetizer, my main course finally arrived: the Jagerschnitzel. I found it to be great. Two thin, fried pieces of pork with mushroom wine sauce. My side was Pomme Frites(french fries). Once again, this dish cost way too much. $17 for some fried pork and french fries and a salad? Sorry, you're not fooling anyone here, especially after taking nearly an hour to get the dish During that waiting time, I immediately knew what the problem was. Looking through the window to the kitchen, I saw just one chef with 5-6 tickets posted up. I won't tell anyone how to run their restaurant, but I probably won't go back when it takes such a long time to get my dishes.

We have been to this place about 5 times. It was never my personal first pick but my friend is German and he likes it just for the novelty. The service is slow you have several waitress not just one so none of them really know what your drinking etc. I have always thought the menu and food kinda sucked. My husband was served sausage that was raw one time. I ordered a pizza and I would say the sauce is sweet ketchup. The place is really not that clean. The final straw was last Saturday night. 4 of us met there at 4:20 pm ordered our food at 4:30. The dinner salads come out for 2 people ok no problem so far. Then my dinner salad comes out immediately after they get their salad so now I will not have a meal when the table is served dinner. The next meal comes out about 5 mins later - the side dish was wrong so the server went back to bring back the correct side. When she comes back she picks up the dinner plate and says this is not your order I gave you the wrong dinner yours will be out in a few minutes. Now she brought the plate back to the kitchen we think to be re-plated and served to the correct customer (YUCK). 20 mins later his dinner comes - only his dinner. The veal is missing the brown sauce and he just eats it because he does not want it to go back to the kitchen. 15 mins later one more order comes out a pizza with extra mushrooms. The pizza is partially burnt there are small slivers of mushrooms and only about 6-7 mushrooms on the entire pizza and very very little cheese. The pizza is served on a dinner plate that is concave in the middle so the pizza instead of flat is suspended on the edge of the plate and tipping downward in the middle. Now I am done with my salad and just sit back to watch this craziness. We are being served our meals in pieces each order has come out incorrect (btw my salad dressing was wrong and missing I forget). My husband is waiting on his pizza one pizza came out so his must be coming -WRONG. A waitress ask us if everything is ok and we tell her NO it certainly is not - her face was like Oh Crap why did I ask. She at least got us refills all of our glasses were empty and had been for a while. She checks on my husbands pizza and says it will be right out. 20 minutes later still no pizza. Now none of the staff is making eye contact with us. - I tell him give it 5 minutes he is fuming. We give it 6 minutes tell the head Heidi head waitress we're done give us our check. We need two checks one for each couple. Of course checks are WRONG!! Do Not waste your time here BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Oh and my friend who had the veal was bathroom sick from it when he got home TMI but true

Went there with a Groupon. Two other tables were occupied. Dark and felt old and musty. Unsweet tea tasted like instant. Asked for more sweetener and was given two packets for two people. Pork cutlet looked and tasted like something from the frozen food section of the grocery store. Dumplings were described by server as potato pancakes. What I received was two white balls with no taste. After two bites of the cutlet and dumpling I was ready to leave. Yes, we left and went somewhere else for dinner.

Yummy. Seemed authentic. We had the beer samplers, gluhwein, pretzel, cucumber, potato pancake with sweet sour cream and apple sauce. Dishes were schnitzel, wursts, etc. there was a group of 7 easily accommodated with bench seating like a bier garten. Oh and the desserts were light tasting...Black Forest, apple streudel, almond cake and rum roll made by a German lady for them. All in all great food, service and value. Love the wall decor too!

I was beyond excited to stumble upon this restaurant in Jacksonville... German food... in Jacksonville... After talking about going for a while, we finally went. Now, before we went I visited their website and read their story about how the owners were German and brought their German brother over (who was an experienced chef in Germany)... this gave me hope and I have to admit, I had very high expectations. I've been to Germany several times and have German roots so I know what the food is supposed to taste like. We visited for lunch and there weren't very many people in there (2 tables), the decor was quaint, music was "Top 40's". After scanning the menu and seeing many dishes I recognized, I decided on something. Wienerschnitzel with Spatzle and Red Cabbage as sides. My husband chose the Jagerschnitzel with Bratkartoffein and Sauerkraut. After ordering, our waitress brings "bread", which looked like they were tied in knots along with an herb butter. The bread was not flavorful, seemed like it was lacking salt. Our food arrived... My "pork chop" was different than I've had before, about half the size, and twice as thick. Wienerschnitzel is typically thin and lightly breaded, served with lemon on the side. This was thicker, greasy, with lemon slices on top (which made the breading very soggy). I actually picked up this piece of meat and watched grease drip off. Not impressed. The Spatzle seemed dry, lacked flavor, and was stuck together... Red cabbage was pretty good, however, it could've used salt. Of course I tried my husband's food. His tasted better than mine. The Bratkartoffein was pretty flavorful (looked like chunks of potatoes that had been sauteed or fried with bacon). The mushroom sauce on the Jagerschnitzel was flavorful and pretty good, though different than I've had before. I really liked the Sauerkraut. I think this restaurant could be really good and popular in Jax since I haven't heard of other German restaurants here, though I think the owners really need to re-evaluate the quality of the food coming out of that kitchen. I know this is a pretty negative review, but I know people are on this site to get the real opinions of people who have visited these restaurants, so just sharing. Guten Tag.

The beer and potato pancakes were awesome. Service was okay , nothing great. This could have been in part because we didn't have a reservation- which they looked shocked and we had a baby with us. We had no idea this place would be so busy we just were trying a new place with some friends. The food seemed very overpriced for small portions. The environment was fun and it seemed like a great place if you are just looking to grab a beer and some appetizers.

We were psyched about a german place in jacksonville, and after finding the right time we decided to visit it. Location wise they are located just right. There is plenty of parking and sidewalks etc! The service was great as well! It felt like you were in a german gaststaette! which was great too! I ordered the jaeger schnitzel which is one of my favorite meals of all time, but sadly the kitchen here prepares it in a totally different way than what we were used too. my wife ordered fish and was also unsatisfied with her food. Its a great place for kids though! They gave my son a bucket full of toys :) Overall a great experience, except the food :/

We were looking for good, authentic tasting schnitzel in the Jacksonville area, and this was the first one that popped up on a search. Admittedly I was a little concerned that it was a German place coupled with a pizza place, two way different things. We got there and everything seemed fine, the service was friendly. It took us over 45 minutes for us to get our appetizer salad, and over an hour for us to get our meal. We weren't in a rush, but I know how long schnitzel takes to make and it took way longer than necessary given that they weren't busy at all. We saw one table leave, we suspect they left because they were waiting too long. The food was EXCELLENT. Worth the wait in terms of quality. We got the Jaegerschnitzel (mushroom sauce) with the Spaetzle (potato noodles). I would go again. I hope that the service was just a fluke this one time, but the food is worth it to come back, we'll just plan on not being starving when we arrive. If you want good, authentic tasting schnitzel and sides, definitely go here. After having lived in Germany, I'd say this is a great place to satisfy the craving for great German food!

Worst experience at a restaurant EVER!! I'd give it zero stars if I could. The food was delicious...up to the point when we found a ROACH cooked into our pizza. When we brought it to the attention of our waitress, a "manager" came out and said he'd comped the pizza, but still wanted us to pay for the rest of our meal (which we most certainly didn't finish). When we offered to simply pay for what we ate, the "manager" said that he couldn't comp the platter (which we didn't eat) because it was $18 and they had to make SOME money. After that, we refused to pay for anything and he argued with us for 10 minutes (and I'm not exaggerating that amount of time) that we had to still had to pay for the platter (and as anyone that has been in the customer service industry would know...you don't EVER argue with the customer). Even after asking when the owner would be in (to which we got "he travels to D.C. so he's never in") and saying that this would be posted on Yelp (his response, "well if thats what kind of people you are"), we left horribly disappointed and pissed. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Horrible customer service...and worse, ROACHES...imagine what goes on that we don't happen to see!!!

Ive eaten here a few times and the food has always been good. Most meals are between $16 & $21. This is a bit more expensive than I would like but, to be fair, the portions are huge. If the meals were a bit less expensive Id probably end up coming much more often because Ive never had a bad meal here. Even my wife, who isnt a huge fan of German food, things this place is great. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, and the dining room has always been clean and inviting. Definitely recommend giving it a try.

My friend who is from Gainsville, told me about this place. We always pass this restaurant cause its in this little shopping center next to McDonald's and Chick-Fil-A (so who would want to check out a German place when you have some awesome fat kid food next door?). Well we didn't want to pass up this place any longer! Germany is one of the places on my list that I have been too, but sadly at that time I didn't really enjoy the food. We went for lunch on a Sunday, which I advise that you don't do cause its dinner prices, but they do have a lunch menu during weekdays (see their website). What we had (and shared): We had the Bavarian appetizers which was an assortment of German Sausages: Nrnberger and Frankfurter. Served with German Mustard. Which I didn't think needed mustard just cause it was good by itself. Our main dish was the Schnitzel Haus Platter which had Rindsroulade, Jager Schnitzel and Frikadelle. Served with Spatzle, Bratkartoffeln and mushroom gravy. Don't know what these items are? Just wikipedia them! =0) Anyways it was very good. The place is family owned who moved to JAX straight from Germany about 4 or 5 years ago. Just try and check them out!!

This place was authentic and delish! Hubs and I ate a late lunch there one afternoon and really enjoyed it. The decor was authentic and the waitress was German! It was our first time eating German food and it was very good. The portion sizes were large and the food was made to order. We had the spaetzel and the potato pancakes with applesauce to start. I don't recall exactly what we ordered for the main entree, but it was a sort of stuffed meat. We chose it based on the waitress' description - she was great at helping us understand the menu and she was friendly, but not over bearing. If you're in the mood for something new, I recommend you give it a try :)

First time here and definitely not the last very authentic German dishes the Jagerschnitzel was terrific and the spaetzel was tender, the potato pancakes for an appetizer with the applesauce was awesome reminded me of the years I spent living in Germany. The service was quick and very friendly would recommend this gausthaus to everyone

I guess there's not that many choices when it comes to German food, but this one is pretty good! It can be a little pricey, but I think it's worth it. I honestly can't remember what I had last because I was pretty wasted, but it was fairly good. Sorry, that didn't help. The beers are good, too! :) The platter with all the different weiners were good. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back. It's a smaller place, but can fit a family/group. The staff is helpful when it comes to what to order, etc. I've been here at leat 3 times and always had a good experience there.

This place had a great environment with a very warm and friendly staff. This was the first German restaurant I have ever eaten at so I have nothing to compare the food to, but I thought it was pretty good. Not amazing, but good. My favorite thing was dessert, a sort of pecan pudding pie - It was so good! I will definitely be eating here again.

Not terribly impressed with food or ambiance. Expected more authentic atmosphere and German music rather than oldies. Food was disappointing and overpriced. Every German restaurant I've been to always served a nice basket of warm pumpernickel bread with a crock of German mustard. Not this one!

Not worth the wait! Usually very patient on timelines of food /wait staff but this was just terrible. Got to the restaurant and seated right away. Waited at least 20 minutes for a waiter. When she finally came we placed our order right away since she seemed busy. Food got to the table over an hour later! Sides were cold. We only actually saw our waitress once, think she may have been to embarrassed to even bring us the food. Manager said there was a 'back up' in the kitchen. Still, if there was a situation that was going to prolong ... Someone should have come and told us. Came here with a small child. Good thing we brought some toys to entertain!!!

Great authentic German food! They are still here!!! The restaurant moved to a new location on the corner of San Pablo and Atlantic a little over a year ago and is located behind the Fresh Market. They are open for lunch and dinner every day. Visit Www.germanjax.com for menus, hours and more.

I took my daughter and we split a platter to have a little taste of a lot! Everything was delicious! She'd never had German Food and has added it to her list of foods she loves. I thought the service was great and the menu had so many tasty items we had a hard time choosing...hence the platter. Our waitress was spot on for her recommendations on our appetizers, meal and my dark, yummy, German beer! We will be back soon...

Food wasn't the best. Didn't remind me if the food when I used to live in Germany, wasn't really expecting it too but it was really not that great. If you want German I'm pretty sure there are other places in jacksonville to go.

I recently had a chance to eat at German Schnitzel House for the first time and I'm so glad I took it! The location (which I found out is relatively new) is a little hidden, it's basically behind the Fresh Market on Atlantic Blvd. The first item we tried was the beer cheese soup. I'm a big soup fan in general and this soup was fantastic. The little bits of bacon on top were perfectly cooked and a little sweet without tasting like candy (I find that sweet bacon can easily be way too sweet). The soup itself was cheesy and flavorful without being too heavy. Next up was the German wedge salad (iceberg lettuce, landjaeger sausage lardoons, pickled red onion, fried spatzle, and a mustard vinaigrette). Generally I am not a wedge salad fan (iceberg lettuce is far from my favorite) but this was great. When I think iceberg lettuce I generally assume there will be a lack of flavor but all the toppings insured that that was not the case. The pickled onions and the vinaigrette especially played really nicely together. Next we tried the goulash. This would be a perfect winter time dish. Hearty and flavorful, not unlike a big bowl of chili. Next out was their hand made, in house pretzels. Yum! Even though mine was one of the smaller pretzels, I could only manage to finish half. It tasted really fresh and went perfectly with the mustard it was served with. Next up was a potato pancake topped with quark cheese and applesauce. The potato pancake was absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately I don't like applesauce and again, was so full I couldn't finish it but very tasty. Lastly we had the frikadelle (basically a meatball). It wasn't my personal favorite but there was a lot of flavor in both the meatball and the sauce. We finished off the night with some fresh apple strudel. I don't really like cooked fruit but other people seemed to really enjoy it. Overall, I was super impressed with my visit to German Schnitzel Haus. I had heard some mixed things but I think the changes being instituted right now are wonderful.

Slightly above average. My favorite dish was probably the potato pancakes with cheese and applesauce appetizer ($7), and I'd get it again. The schnitzel tenders ($6) were also quite nice. I'm not a big fan of salads, and the one included with my main course wouldn't change my mind, though it was fine. My main was quite good too: pork jager schnitzel ($17) with brown gravy (which there could have been more of) and spatzle. My only disappointment was the apple strudel ($6) for dessert. I and another diner thought it was weak. I also had some Riesling at $6/glass. A note about the Beef Stroganoff: several of our party got it and no one came anywhere close to finishing it because of the size of the dish. The setting is new and quite nice. There were a few service flaws. We had to ask a second time for more bread. My water glass was never refilled. Splitting of a bill was initially done wrong. And when I said I'd never heard of the quark cheese on the potato pancakes the waitress just said "me neither."

OUCH! We where 1 of 2 tables in the restaurant on a Sunday evening. The waitress was a disaster..she made errors in the order and the check. The carpet, menu and drink menu on the table where dirty and stained. The food was pre-made making the potatoes soggy, the bacon lost it's flavor and the caramelized onions where undistinguishable. The schnitzel was hot and nicely breaded. What a shame that the rest of the meal, environment and waitress fell flat. We will not return.

Had heard (and read) mixed reviews on this place, but when the husband picks the place during his birthday weekend, I put my big girl pants on and go along for the ride. His parents were in town for the weekend and were excited to try this as well. It was quite warm - noticeably warm - in the restaurant when we entered, but we were seated promptly and greeted by the staff. For our appetizers we shared the Sauerkraut Balls, the Potato Pancakes, and a pretzel. The Sauerkraut balls were more of a sausage ball with a bit of sauerkraut mixed in. Regardless, they were delicious and we ate them up. With 5 to a plate, it made for very easy sharing. And whatever sauce was served with them, I started putting on everything. The potato pancakes were delicious. Golden & crispy and the perfect portion for sharing as well. The pretzel was a little bit harder to share, but we made it work. The mustard sauce was spot on with the acidity and I could have taken a bottle of it home with me. We could have easily done without the pretzel. It was good, but it was a lot of food. And we just kept ordering... For my entree, I went with the Veal Schnitzel with Bratkartoffeln (basically German breakfast potatoes is what this reminded me of) and I couldn't resist ordering a side of spaetzle. The portions are huge so you really are getting a bang of your buck. After all the apps, I could only eat one of the cutlets and a few bites of the spaetzle. It all made for a delicious lunch the next day; that's for sure. While it's a little bit of a trek to take my entire family back, they do want to try it out and now that we know what the dining area looks like, we think we can make it work. It's hard to roll into a restaurant for the first time with a party of ten, so this dinner was a recon mission and we'll be back with the full army soon.

Under new management a few months ago. Still have the best Happy Hour on beer of anywhere in Jax. $3 11-oz or $4 17 oz imported German drafts, with over a dozen to choose from. Traditional German fare, chicken, pork or veal schnitzel, a variety of sausages. Beer cheese soup, salads, full bar and wines, spaetzel, pretzel, rindsraulade, Frikadelle, 3 kinds of stroganoff. Ein Prosit!

Two things: Great food and beer, but the band doesn't play what you'd expect to hear from a German band. They're always a bunch of friendly guys playing, but they are a bit "awkward" and just don't meet expectations when I bring friends. Still, this place has good chefs - the food is outstanding and pays homage to several regional styles of German cooking. (German cooking varies among the many "states" or regions which comprise Germany.) The beer selection is good, and there is always at least one staff member who will explain the various beer options, how they taste, and which might suit your particular interests. I like this restaurant!

My aunt and uncle who were stationed in Germany for many years joined me at GSH to celebrate my birthday on Aug 22, and they agreed the food quality is back to real home-style German. My husband and i just came back from an absolutely wonderful lunch here. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Amanda and sat down at a booth. I'm pretty sure Amanda is the sweetest and loveliest server in Jacksonville, if not in all of Florida! She was spot-on with her food and dessert recommendations and was just so lovely. Anyhow, we ordered the beef stroganoff (for me) and the Jägershnitzel with spaetzle (for the husband). Both dishes were absolutely delicious! I had to take some of my stroganoff home because it was enormous and super filling! All ya'll one-starred reviews complaining about portion sizes are insane. The Jägershnitzel and Stroganoff were both hugely generous portions. We finished with a dessert that was basically a magical sponge cake layered with pastry cream fluffiness and topped with a caramelized almond crunchy top. It. Was. Delicious. My husband and I had such a wonderful experience here and we can't wait to come back! I really just want beer and strudel; let's be real.

A solid 4 Stars on food and 5 on service. Despite the 3-star average on Yelp, a friend had recommended this place to us, so my wife and I thought we'd give it a shot for lunch. (Having a $20 for $12 Groupon helped.) We weren't disappointed. Friendly and competent staff, decent German beer selection, and really good food. I presume the 3-star rating is a vestige of a previous era when they had a different chef. I can tell you that the current chef knows what she's doing and is quite competent. I'm not German, so I can't vouch for the authenticity of the food, but I can tell youthat it's very good. And very good German-ish food is much better than mediocre German food.

No matter where it's located, this is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to in my life. I ate here with my granddaughter several months ago after it moved to its present location near the Fresh Market. The food was sickening. I had eaten here years before when it was on Atlantic Boulevard but did not realize that this was the same restaurant. There's no excuse for this place. The service was Indifferent but it was nowhere near as bad as the disgusting food they served. I will never go back.

Had dinner this evening Jan 31 with the wife and another couple. This is the first visit since they moved to the new location. On our last visit I had the to Roladen It was very salty. When I mentioned this to the server , she said there was a new chef. So tonight we gave it another chance. They have specials, Roladen being one of them and it was out. They make it on Wednesday and when it runs out there is no more until the next Wednesday. Seems to me that they do not cook it every day. Who wants to eat leftovers? We will not be back.

My husband and I decided to come here for dinner since he's been looking for a good German spot to go to. I am no expert on German food but my husband lived in Germany for nine year and has obviously tasted authentic German food. So we thought we would give this place a try. It's location is right on the corner of atlantic and San Pablo in a strip mall that has a bunch of other retail businesses. It sits somewhat in the back so you can't really see it unless your going towards fresh market. The inside looked clean and we were immediately greeted by the hostess, she sat us at a booth and they weren't very busy when we went in. We started with the German pretzel as an appetizer that came with Dijon mustard and regular yellow mustard. Nothing to spectacular, if anything it was a little too dense and honestly I think aunty Anne's and wetzel pretzel makes better ones. I guess they usually bring out complimentary bread and herb butter, but we were not served any nor were we offered any. The menu is quite simple, the back features the lunch portion and the front features the dinner items. I decided to order the bratwurst which came with two brats, sauerkraut, the two mustards, and bartkartofein- which is a potato salad with seasoning and bacon. my husband ordered the jaegershnitzel with dumplings and warm German salad. The bratwurst was okay, Ive tasted authentic brats in Germany and the taste is totally different. The bartkartofein was a little oily and lacked flavor. It has seasoning but it tasted like it was missing salt. My husbands jaegershnitzel was so-so not the best he has and nothing close to what he's had when he lived in Germany. The dumplings had potato, flour, and other seasonings. I tasted it and again it lacked salt, it was also quite grainy and had an uncooked flour taste. The German potato salad was not warm it actually was lukewarm on the outside but the inside was cold, which obviously they warmed up in the microwave. The German potato salad had bacon and was a little on the oily side, it didn't have enough flavor and was quite bland. The only think worth eating was the gravy with the mushrooms on the pork schnitzel. The two stars is because I wasn't at all impressed by their food and it lacked flavor and salt. The staff was really nice and the place is a very inviting but overall this is a miss in my book.

I have been to many German restaurants with rating of good to great. Unfortunately, this restaurant is in a category of its own. If I were able to, I would give it minus stars. The chicken schnitzel was dry and tasteless. The german noodles were diced and in some kind of a herbed cream sauce. We all agreed it would make good wall paper glue. Everything was extra even $1.50 for gravy. Please save your money. This was not German faire but sub par food on any level.

Came back after a few months, hearing the cook has changed. The entree's here are much improved! 3.5/5 would be my rating for the good stuff. The desert's while I see what is trying to be done...need to be sweeter and richer. Everything else about the place is okay...hence the 3/5

If you want authentic German then that's what you will get here! It's not American style so some may not be totally happy with some dishes. I've been going to this restaurant since the Hodges location. They needed to expand and they are a 100 times better than the previous Thai restUrant before them. My waitress was a sweet lady dressed in a German dress. Very thick German accent. She took care of us as if we were in her home. My potatoes are always great as my spaetzle. My hubby loves the fricadelle. And calzones are huge ad tasty. I've never had a bad meal here so please support the few true German establishments in our city! German beers are great but we love Erdenger the most!

We went here today for lunch - the thing you notice is the smell there is definitely a lingering smell of sauerkraut in the air - guess it is to be expected in a German restaurant but a little off putting if you are not expecting it. The tables could also do with a good scrub - they had that slightly sticky just wiped over feel and not nice to rest arms on. If you are looking for a leisurely lunch than this is the place to go as the service is quite slow (there was only a table of four in there beside my husband and I). The food - if you are really hungry make sure you order appetizers as the actual lunch serving is very small. I had the Rahm Schnitzel with a side of cucumber salad. The salad came in a little ramekin probably about 4 spoons worth and the schnitzel came out as 2 little 3" pieces on a plate with the mushroom gravy. The flavor was wonderful but sadly the schnitzel was so tough I couldn't even chew it. My husband had the Jager Schnitzel - it too was quite small but totally delicious and very tender (thankfully he shared a little with me) He had Bratkartoffien for his side which was also totally delicious (it is potato and bacon). The one absolute saving grace though was the apple streusel - it is the one of best we have ever tasted.

Okay, so in the past I have gone here simply because it was the only place with GERMAN food in Jax. However, when I went last night ( they just got a new chef) I actually loved the food more than ever! Before the food was okay, but now it's OUTSTANDING! This new chef is revitalizing the GSH. Honestly, I have seen reviews with people knocking the new chef and I am really not sure why. This has to be one of the BEST places to eat in Jax now because of the new chef. Everything was exceptional. I didn't eat one thing I didn't like. I had the beef stroganoff and my fiancee had the schnitzel. I tried some of his schnitzel and it was so beautifully prepared. In the past I tried to stay away from the schnitzel there because I found it a bit dry and bland. Believe me what I tasted last night had my taste buds dancing. If you have gone here in the past and disliked it...I say give it another chance. It's definitely worth the visit.

Good, authentic German food and beer. I go here often. They are very friendly and helpful if you don't know what to order. They hosted an Oktoberfest with a huge tent in the back and it was awesome. Stein holding contest, yodeling contest and beer drinking contests were some of the entertainment while eating and listening to a live polka band.

I have had German Schnitzel Haus on my radar for a while. I have always wanted to go, but never went. Well recently, they have been showing up on the deal websites, so I snagged a few vouchers and decided to go one night. Upon walking in, I was shocked at how small the place actually is. There are only a few tables and 2 servers. Our waitress had a thick German accent and I loved it! She explained what some things on the menu were and even helped me pronounce things...which is a good thing because I was butchering everything! We decided to go for the $6 German draft beer, which was huge! I originally wanted Hacker Pschoor but they were out, so I went with Warsteiner. They also give you a bread basket, it was so cute! I decided on the Jagerschnitzel, which is two pork cutlets seasoned and lightly breaded then sautéed to a golden brown and topped with a creamy mushroom sauce, with Spatzel (which is sort of a soft egg noodle). When they brought the food out I was wondering how I was going to eat it all....well it was so good that I had to clean my plate! The pork was good by itself, but the gravy is what I loved about it. I like things that are saucy or that you dip into a sauce, so this was perfect for me. The spazel was also a surprise. It didn't have much flavor by itself, but when you dipped it into the gravy, mmmmmmm. My husband got the Zwiebelschnitzel, which is two pork cutlets seasoned and lightly breaded then sautéed to a golden brown and covered in sautéed onions, with Bratkartoffeln (potatoes). He really liked the onions that came on his and he was very impressed with the meal overall. The potatoes were also really good and reminded us of home fries. Verdict: Loved it! There was so much that we loved about this place. The vibe is great and you can tell that they get have lot of regulars by the conversations that we witnessed. The service was good and the food was wonderful! I am glad I have another coupon, because we will definitely be back soon!

I'll be the first to admit that I have no clue what is authentic German food. So we went to give it a try an an early Saturday afternoon. The place was mostly empty, not surprising since it was kinda between lunch and dinner. The lady was very friendly and told us to seat ourselves anywhere we want and brought us menus. We tried the "Bavarian" for appey. My husband was hoping for something similar to a schnitzel burger, but didn't see it on the menu. He opted for the "Gipsy Schnitzel" while I selected their most popular "Jagerschnitzel". We also shared a large mug of ice cold beer. As for sides for each of the main entrees, we got spatzle (noodle) for one and bratkartoffeln (sliced, pan fried potatoes) for the other. Maybe we just don't know enough to appreciate the 10 bucks "Bavarian" appey. It consists of two thin hot dogs and two slices of ham/meat with a bunch of mustard drizzled on them. Not worth the price in my opinion. My "Jagerschnitzel" in mushroom sauce was really tasty and we both enjoyed that dish the most. The "Gipsy" was in a red onion sauce, which was ok. Overall, it was an "A-OK" experience for us.

I LOVED the old location and management. This review is for the new location near Fresh Market. Our service was abysmal. 1 hour 45 minutes without service. This is reprehensible and unacceptable. Literally the worst in my life. The location had lost all character and become another anonymous jacksonville strip mall restaurant.
