Tonight was really, really bad. We have been going to F.A. on San Juan for over 30 years and it was about gone because of bad food ,bad service and just plain dirty, Then a few years ago they turned it around and remodeled it, hired pro servers and the food was the best. After a couple of years it started to slide: over cooked, cold food, servers that you had to call for to get all the food that was ordered and they were not even busy. The pot roast was fatty and very salty, the fish was overcooked, even the cornbread was a cold corn muffin .Come on F.A., you can do better. I've seen it. I will miss you but for 40. dollars ( 3 people) I will not be back.

. The Famous Amos Restaurant on San Juan Avenue is the place to order good, old-fashioned Southern Cooking on Jacksonville's Westside. Food is good, and portions are generous. Service ranges from 7 to 81/2 on a scale of 10 -10 being excellent- depending on weather you hit the rush hour or not. Atmosphere is very laid-back and background music is country-western. You can order breakfast anytime of the day as Famous Amos is open 24/7. Their Western Omelet is the best I've had.

We came here after a drunken night out famished from just having small apps for dinner the night before leaving us fiending for some real food--more specifically: a really good burger. And Famous Amos was just the place to find one... Our server, Lori, was way too bubbly for us in the early afternoon taking our orders with her vivacious smile being the incorrigible sycophant we were in no mood to be around. However, she did give us great service and a fast sample of the chicken & rice they had on special. Although the sample was way too salty, it was a nice gesture. My boyfriend and I both got burgers and they were absolutely delicious. Mine was perfectly cooked medium rare on a toasted bun served with golden crinkle fries and a side of ranch dressing for dipping. Yum. If you want a really good fresh burger (made fresh, never frozen), go here. They cost a little under $7 with a side and a pickle spear. Service was pretty fast and that darn waitress upsold me on a slice of homemade pecan pie with whip. Then again, it wasn't like she had to twist my arm. Yah, definitely coming again. :) FYI: They have excellent homemade pies and desserts daily sold by the slice or whole if you give them one day's notice.

Shitty service, waitress latched out at my cousin about the sides he ordered. She then started to avoid our table. My dad ordered a salad with no crutons and the waitress crumbled them up. I had to saver my drink because I was scared she might pee in it.

Great big Southern breakfasts. Cheap and nothing fancy but the food is excellent. The biscuits with butter and honey are to die for. I've been eating at this place for years and it never disappoints. Always a favorite stop when I'm in town. Oh and the country ham steak and french toast are great too. Really the only thing I'm not a fan of is the pancakes but I have friends who prefer their pancakes to most others.

More like 3 1/2 stars, but I rounded up. I come here for one thing and one thing only - the turkey and dressin'. It is really good and I always have it with extra gravy. I was born and raised in the deep south, so the dressin' is nothing like my granny's or even my mama's, but it's the next best thing. My mama has tried to teach me how to make her dressin' time and time again; but, I'm no cook, so it never comes out quite right. And me tryin' to make gravy from scratch is just a big, fat joke! So when I get a turkey and dressin' craving (and it happens pretty often), this is where I come! And when it comes to dressing, Cracker Barrel ain't got nothin' on Famous Amos! As Uncle Si would say, "And that's a fact, Jack!" I haven't had much else on the menu. I've had the bread pudding and I didn't care for it. I don't care for the biscuits or the cornbread that's brought to the table. The black-eyed peas are pretty good, but it's pretty hard to mess up black-eyed peas. Hubby always gets the same thing too, the chicken fried chicken over rice and covered in gravy. He loves it and always makes a happy plate. Service here is wonderful. All the ladies here are sweet as pie. Your drinks stay filled and they come to check on you just the right amount. Need a to-go cup? It's no problem for them. Usually they'll offer and you won't even have to ask. They always welcome you when you walk in and they always make sure to tell you "bye" and "come again soon" when you're leaving. Unfortunately, this particular Famous Amos is not open 24 hours. It's kind of a bummer for us because we're night owls and it's not unusual for us to eat dinner at 2 or 3 in the morning. Note: The turkey and dressin' may not be listed on the menu as it is a daily special. But, I have asked and they have told me they have turkey and dressin' every day of the week. They said it would be very unusual for them not to have it. So if it's not on the menu, fear not, just ask your friendly waitress about it. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that you can order breakfast at any time of day. I've never had it, but I hear they make a mean breakfast here!

In all the years I've ventured into any Famous Amos restaurant, I've come to expect a couple things: good food and good service. Well, this particular restaurant has both of those things! I absolutely can't get enough of the chicken fried chicken and gravy over white rice! It's absolutely yummy!!! My wife loves the turkey and dressing and will not order anything else. Although, I don't blame her, because it's yummy too! The service here is splendid! If the waitress notices your drink is low she'll immediately bring a refill. All of the staff we've encountered here is extremely nice and they always thank us for our business when we're headed out the door! The one sour note about this restaurant is it's not open 24 hours like others in town.
