What does a fat kid do when you have time to burn. He eats and breakfast was on the menu and it was 8am anyway. I was driving around downtown and came across the Desert Rider shop. I have seen it and even have eaten in here many times before. It has been maybe 10 years since I have been in here. I walked in the to an old but well maintained place. There were big pictures all around of downtown from years gone by. A few I even knew what they were and when they were taken. When I got to the counter Cynthia was there waiting on me and I chose the breakfast rider with ham. The one thing that I liked about my sandwich is that is was toasted. The pita that is. My eyes were cooked well not real hard but not runny either. I did enjoy my sandwich and wish that I have stopped in again earlier then this. That should teach me to not stop at some of my old haunts around downtown.

Cynthia, the Cashier/Order Taker, is the sweetest Lady I know. I go in for a fast breakfast pick up in the mornings on my way to work. I used to go everyday when I worked across the street-The Ed Ball Bldg. They have breakfast specials and lunch specials everyday. They bake the best cookies in the world. My breakfast favorite is the toasted cheese rider with link sausage in it. For lunch, my favorite is the Desert Rider full salad with the special made "Desert Rider sauce"! It is a hole in the wall with a wonderful vintage counter with bar stools all the way down, and a couple of tables to the side. I noticed they put a table or two outside also. This is my most favorite place in all of downtown Jacksonville to pick up breakfast and lunch. You never have to wait very long either. Kudos all the way Desert Rider!

My check in today made me the duchess. It's up for grabs starting now. This used to be my favorite breakfast guilty pleasure. After today I will never set foot in there again. My usual order is ham and Swiss on buttered rye for about $2.75 plus I always add a dollar tip. Today that is what I ordered. I got ham and American on pita for $3.73! Plus major attitude from the cashier/order taker. Cynthia is dearly missed. God bless her.

I stopped in here because Quiznos across the street carries Pepsi now and I wanted Coke. I spotted this went in and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a New Yorker which is ham, turkey, beef, cheese, produce and dressing on a Pita, along with homemade potato salad and of course Coke. Long story short, the place was excellent, service impressive and quick and the potato salad was just outstanding! I'll go again if I'm ever in the area. If I were downtown daily at the City of Jax building, I'd be a regular here for sure. Lady working register was very very nice.

It is a better option than the Quiznos and Subway nearby, but I wouldn't make a special trip. The lunch meat and toppings tasted very fresh, but the sandwich had more lettuce than anything else. Nice that they have outdoor seating.
