So....I was recently here for my first time and I ended up being pretty disappointed with the food. I ordered a half chicken salad sandwich and side of slaw. The chicken in my opinion was completely bland and it looked puréed. If not for the lettuce, tomato, and onion I don't know if the sandwich would have had any flavor. To be fair though, my boyfriend thought it was okay. I also sampled some of his breakfast--country fried steak, eggs, and home fries. I found the steak to be all breading and barely any meat, and it tasted like a heart attack on a plate covered with gravy. The eggs were fine, but the home fries were swimming in grease. My boyfriend loved his meal--but clearly he doesn't mind the unhealthy vibes as much as I do. So overall in my opinion the food was just not good. On the other hand, two stars for service and price. The waitress was very kind and did her job well. My half sandwich and side were only $6 which I find to be fair. I don't think I'll be back, but my boyfriend probably will!

I tried Deerwood Deli solely out of curiosity. I went to Tropical smoothie 3 doors down and said "let me try that little place down there" I wanted something relatively quick so I opted for the panini. It was good but the Mac and cheese I chose for a side was mediocre at best. Bad Mac and cheese is one of my pet peeves so this skewed my review a bit. The Mac and cheese had that straight from the box taste and not even the fancy box, the generic brand box type. I was hoping they had more dessert option in the sparse showcase. Was it bad? No was it great? No. That being said I might go back and try something different.

First time trying cheese grits... WONDERFUL... Smooth as silk... Very nice with my bagel bacon sandwich

Loved the food and the service is excellent! Best place in town :) Nicole A. served us and she was so nice. Their Cuban sandwich was so delicious! Must try.

Good spot for breakfast, I had a cup of coffee in front of me before I even sat up straight. The server double checked if it was OK that some items in my choice were default but not listed on the menu, my food came in minutes and I was checked on just enough. Prices are totally reasonable. I just moved to the area and am very happy to have a spot like this nearby.

If you want great food and pleasant atmosphere this is the best place to go. The menu is nostalgic and the decor is fun and energetic. I give it a 10

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. The first time I tried this place was about 6 months ago. Walked in, waited awhile to be seated even though the place wasn't too busy. After ordering coffee, we drank the entire cup and the waitress had not been back to take our order much less refill our cups. We left some money on the table and left. This past weekend we decided to try again. They were busy yet no one even bothered to make eye contact or acknowledge us even though they walked right by us. Funny because the couple before us that walked in a half second earlier got seated and menus almost immediately. After waiting more than a reasonable amount of time only the gentleman who was cooking the food even said hello to us. We walked out and the same guy popped out the door to apologize. No acknowledgment from the wait staff. Please train your staff better at customer service. I'm sure you won't miss me and I won't miss out on your business either. This one star is for the polite gentleman.

I like the Deerwood Deli and Diner for the friendly family atmosphere. The food was done just right with a southern fair. The country potatoes were excellent. I had the meat omelette and was very pleasantly surprised by the nice taste. All in my party had a good meal.

Such an amazing place! I had the French Toast breakfast and it was delicious! I highly recommend it if you want a nice bite to eat while in the Southside area!

I love this place. I have read a lot of great reviews, but quite a few negative ones, quite a few of which are pertaining to the fact that no one said anything to them when they walked in the door. There's actually a big sign that says seat yourself. Anyways, food here is always great. Cool little 50's atmoshpere. I can't speak for anything other than breakfast food, but if you're looking for a good ol' classic breakfast diner instead of souped up crazy alternative breakfast joints, this is your place.

This is my "regular" Friday spot for lunch, and you would be remiss to pass up an opportunity to stop in. The food is diverse--breakfast all day, and lunch after 10am (?)--and universally delicious. I tried a bite of a friend's reuben the other day (I am not a huge fan of them) and loved it. I am on a quest to try everything on the menu, and have yet to be disappointed! Service is casual and thorough, the atmosphere is just as casual and very relaxing (which is a nice break from the office atmosphere I escape from). There's not much more to say; it is a great place that is reasonably-priced, and certain to please all in your group.

Met up with some friends for lunch in Baymeadows last week. We were supposed to eat at Tijuana Flats, but that place was packed to capacity. After deciding to find another place to eat, we barely walked out the door and around the corner when we found Deerwood Deli and Diner. This eatery is a throwback to retro hamburger joints. Black and white checkered tiles, photos of various stars of the era (Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles and more) adorn the walls, and even down to the laminate tables and chairs. There's even an old-fashioned jukebox that is an exact replica of the one at my favorite retro hamburger joint back home in Connecticut. Breakfast is served ALL DAY! And they knew I was coming, corned beef hash was on the menu! I'm never the first to figure out what I want off a menu, but if there's corned beef hash of some sort, my ordering is simple. Unfortunately, for an establishment like this, it seemed to take quite a bit of time for our food to reach the table. Of the five us that were eating, four of us had a full meal. The fifth, however, did not. He ordered half of a sandwich and soup of which the portion size would have been for a kid. He also had asked for his bread not to be toasted, as he can't chew it, and it came out toasted. As we had waited so long already, he just ate the egg salad right off the bread. My eggs, toast and corned beef hash hit the spot. It was just like what I could order back home, and I had the perfect amount of food. Everyone of our group was satisfied, we just need to make sure to order whole sandwiches and not half because it won't be filling for an adult.

I love coming here for breakfast! Just a cute diner with a 50's charm. There is a choice of tables and booths but realize it is Seat Yourself. This place will fill up fast with local regulars. My favorite thing on the menu here is the omelet and the home fries. Come with a big stomach if you are going to pick the omelet thought. It is massive! I usually pick breakfast like their sausage, egg, home fries and pancakes. They will fill you up with the breakfast essentials. All of the servers are very nice and efficient. If it is too busy for you, they also do togos as well. I will sometimes with call in if I am in a hurry or passing through. DOG FRIENDLY! I haven't come here yet with my puppy but I have been here several times and they allow people who are eating outside to have brought their dogs.

I used to come here a lot with my parents before/right after I moved to Jax. The food was always pretty good, but it had been about 4 years since I came here before I came with a friend this morning. It wasn't really that busy - we waited maybe 5 minutes at the most for a table. I ordered the corned beef hash meal with eggs and an English muffin, and my friend got the diner breakfast (2 eggs, pancakes, bacon, grits) and we both got coffees. My eggs were extremely runny, almost to the point where I couldn't even look at them without feeling queasy. I was really disappointed that the corned beef hash was mostly potatoes - not the big chunks of corned beef that I see in pictures here. Both our meals were swimming in butter - my friend ended up spooning a huge chunk of butter off of his grits. We were both pretty underwhelmed.

Fast, fantastic service. Everyone we spoke with was friendly and knowledgeable. The ala cart menu was a welcome change - you really can get whatever you want here, and very reasonably priced. We got the steak and eggs meal, chicken biscuit, and biscuits and gravy. Loved the biscuits, soft but seared on the grill. The steak and eggs were both cooked properly, the hash browns were nicely done. The chicken biscuit was tasty, but not a big piece of chicken. Fine, considering the price! I'm definitely getting it again.

As far as diners are concerned this place is top notch. Great food (breakfast burritos) are incredible. The service and waitress staff was excellent. If you want a great breakfast this is the place. Gotta try there French toast best I ever had.

This place is awesome! Great little diner with an at-home feel. Had the biscuits and gravy, chicken biscuit, and eggs. The gravy is perfect with little chunks of sausage. The chicken biscuit was very good. I would highly recommend them for breakfast. Going to have to try the lunch next time!

Visited this diner over the holidays while visiting from out of town. Read great reviews ahead of time on a blog and of course Yelp. Tried the eggs Benedict with hash browns. Both cooked to perfection! So hard to find breakfast served with hash browns much less cooked to crispy perfection. This is a family owned diner. The son was helping while home from school. Very nice guy. Even let me tease his Dad about his website. But, I think the Yelp reviews and great speak for itself. Great spot for breakfast that I wish we had in Orlando.

If this wasn't true I'd be laughable. Went in with two others on a Sunday @ noon. Granted it was busy, however, it took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. I ordered three eggs, rye toast, and the hash. You can tell when food has been sitting in the back for a while but I gave it a taste. The eggs, hash and toast all were cold. I complained to the server who apologized and she asked me if I wanted to have it warmed?! I said no I didn't want to wait another 45 minutes to eat. So I started to eat the meal and the 'mother of the owner' came to our table and asked me if I was the one complaining about the food and service....I replied yes, and she reached in and grabbed the plate and said something to the effect, 'if I didn't like it she was going to take it.' Seems as if when a eating establishment is busy they should be at their best. This place wasn't, insulted and embarrassed me and should be avoided. Word to the wise, don't complain.....sort of like Elaine and the Soup Nazi.........

Decent little spot, with a good breakfast for a weekday or Sunday brunch with a small price tag! The service is just fine and they have good, quick service from the time you ordered. Go with the country potatoes w/ peppers instead of the hash browns because they are much more flavorful! My poached eggs were good and my bacon crispy, and I think I'll be back!

We enjoy eating here with our kids. Our food is always yummy and every bite gets devoured with great enthusiasm. We love to sit in Karen's section - she is a wonderful waitress and always remembers our kids by name and chats with them. Friendly, fast, delicious and a real neighborhood treat!

With so few good breakfast places around, let alone family owed, the diner embodies the flavor of an old soda shop, or 5&Dime. This includes a greasy griddle plate and large portion. The family staff, and employees are more likely to compliment you then serve up some sarcasm like Flo, but you'll forgive them this over site as a trade off for an authentic diner breakfast.

I'm a grits junkie, and dang if these weren't good! Loved 'em. The rest of our breakfast was good ol' American diner food. Too bad we were just visiting from Texas, or I'd make this spot a regular stop.

We stopped in here this morning before some last minute Thanksgiving grocery shopping. I was blown away by the nice retro appeal of this place. We didn't stay long enough for food. Our party just had coffee and tea. But our server was Nicole and she was so nice. Such a nice smile and very pleasant on this hectic pre-holiday day. We loved the atmosphere and will definitely be back!!

One of my favorite places to go for a fast, inexpensive lunch or breakfast. Not only is the decor retro but the menu has a classic feel as well. You wont find any goat-cheese-pesto-add-a-english-muffin-and-call-it-a-benedict on the menu here, just plain ole good diner food. Their breakfast hits the spot and their lunch is so tempting, I always arrive for breakfast and order a lunch sandwich. My personal favorite is the chicken salad melt on rye. This grilled sandwich's bread comes nice and buttery golden, hot off the press!...er..flat grill? I've also never seen a flat sandwich in this place, as it should be. Who doesnt like their samich with a mound o meat in the middle? They also are very quick. My bf was apprehensive of catching a late breakfast due to football. But we were in and out within 25 minutes! I have to say, even though this place is a diner, I have yet to try any dessert. Probs because I usually dont feel like a shake at 9 AM.

Walked in and stood at the entrance for over 10 minutes. Not one restaurant employee even said hello to us. A table nearby had to get up and ask the server to get their check. A waitress walked past us at least five times without even acknowledging us. Wouldn't go back.

Jut moved to Jax and looking forward to becoming a regular here! Their grits were some of the creamiest and tastiest I've ever had. Hubs had the eggs Benedict and he said it was delicious! Our waitress Nicole was very accommodating and even suggested we move to a larger table when one became available so we'd have plenty of elbow room. Great experience!

Nice, classic little diner. The food has a "mom-and-pop" feel to it with generous portions and a unique taste. Pretty tight quarters though and it is mostly full of old people reading newspapers at certain times of day, so there can sometimes be a short wait. I would recommend this place if you appreciate diners and want something a bit original.

Great little diner. I went here this morning for breakfast with the bf. Although I had been here once before several years ago, I didn't seem to appreciate it as much as I do now. Casual, friendly atmosphere. One thing about this place is that not only is the decor from the 1950s-60s, but so are the customers... lol. We were the youngest ones there, and I'm in my late 20s. (Well I guess the fact it wasn't even 8am yet played a factor...) Nothing bad about that though-- the diner seems like it's got well-established regulars, which is great. Basic, go-no-wrong choices on the menu... and very affordable. I had the breakfast BLT sandwich with a fried egg, and I ordered a small French toast. Solid choices. I saved half my sandwich for lunch and it was still pretty delicious. My boyfriend ordered the hangover omelet with sausage and he finished the whole thing. With coffee and tax, I think the bill totaled to about $22. I would definitely come here again.

Go to breakfast spot on Baymeadows. Great corned beef hash. Lunch is great too. They make their own tuna and egg salad!!

We must have been here on a bad day. It is literally taking forever for anything to happen. Ordered coffee and it took 10 mins, then it took the server 4 separate trips to bring the sugar, cream, spoon, and the ... Jam for some reason lol (no one ordered bread). We have now been waiting about 20 mins for two basic sandwiches and a coffee refill....

i used to eat at this diner semi often, as i knew someone that worked there..i went on a sunday around noon, it was not busy..i had someone walk into me while wheeling a trashcan thru the restaraunt..then a waitress looked at me, walked past me and even said hello to me before asking "are you getting something from here? who are you with? i didnt know if (insert name of ex boyfriend) was with you..well im not standing in a place to eat to NOT eat there, its not your business who im meeting, or if its the person that used to work there..luckily she told me to sit in a different section, and she wasnt my server..my friends (a family of five) arrived and were seated..we ordered drinks and then the waitress gave some time for the kids in the group to decide what they wanted to eat..we placed orders and they were brought out pretty quickly..i ordered a spotted cow, which has corned beef in it..it was chewy and hard to eat like a pita, so i had to cut it up..there were two burgers ordered, some chicken finges, a bowl of soup and fish and chips, everyone seemed moderatly happy with thier food..its that kind of place now..youre not wowed by the food, its not really good, but its not REALLY bad enough to complain about it....the youngest of the group asked for ice cream and we were told the freezer was broken..this makes me a little nervous, but oh well..the ranch was good and the prices are cheap..they also get points for the 50s themed decor, although the original owner took some of the nicer stuff with him when it changed ownership..it seems like this place had gone downhill in the last year or so..this owner has another diner somewhere else in jacksonville so maybe hes putting too much effort into that one..

Just moved to town and this was the closest diner to our apt but we won't be going back. Yes the coffee was delicious once we got it but service was beyond poor. Arrived at 10 til 9 on a Tuesday morning. Waited about 5 minutes before a waitress came to our table even though there were only about 6 tables seated in the diner. 15 minutes after we placed our order we were told they were out of biscuits so both my bf and I had to change our orders. Another 15 minutes went by as we watched everyone who came in after us get their food! Our order apparently went back to the bottom instead of the top as it should have for the inconvenience. After waiting almost half an hour the waitress came by to tell us our order should be up next. Maybe if the cook hadn't been eating behind the counter our order would have been done. We walked out, something I have never done but after this mess we felt the diner didn't deserve our money. Got our biscuits and gravy at Hardee's instead but at least we were served food! Shame shame.

Basic diner-style restaurant on the side of the strip mall by Publix. Service was very friendly and attentive, but not intrusive. Breakfast was what you would expect from a diner -- good basic selections. Our food came out quickly, was nice and hot, and was cooked properly. Perhaps just as important, nothing was swimming in grease. Definitely a lot of regulars. We might just join them.

This place has that retro, old school diner feel. The waitresses are great and very nice. Club sandwich is the best in town. It's huge! Breakfast is great. Ant go wrong. Go give it a try.

Food was great! You could tell this place was a place for "regular". Total hole in the wall - but it was definitely a 50's diner style. Loved it. Everyone knew the waitress, she was very nice and we got all of our food in a timely fashion and the bathrooms were clean! :) We had ENORMOUS omelets for a reasonable price. YUM!

Drove all night from pa wanted to get to the other side of Jacksonville before we stopped to eat. My husband saw a review that said excellent pancakes (my fav)! They were delicious as was the bacon and my husbands corned beef hash. Staff and waitress were super friendly! Looks like tons of regulars (always a good sign). They made us feel right at home!
