Well, I don't always feel the necessity to write a review and unfortunately more often than not negative experiences create reviews. This is one of those. First, the location is a bit shoddy and the only real competition this place has on the whole west side of Jacksonville is Applebee's which should be a huge red flag. I decided to give them a shot. First, the Caesar salad I think got mistaken for soup, because it was in a HOT bowl, not cold, or room temperature or warm, but hot, really hot. I got the bbq sampler and I regret it. The pulled pork was tough and had no flavor, the brisket was inedible, it looked pale and rubbery and proved to taste worse than it looked. The chicken was decent, however a bit undercooked. The ribs were meaty, but dry and also lacked flavor. Overall just a utter dissapointment. Only saving grace was my Jack n Coke was practically pure Jack, cant complain about that. Long story short, order pizza and save yourself the trouble of finding food on the west side of Jacksonville.

First timers (4 of us) went on short notice the other night. Worried about a long wait since the parking lot was nearly full but we were seated immediately. Drink order taken and delivered within a short time. Menu had enough variety for the picky eater so order was taken, salads came within reasonable time and food following closely. Portions were more than adequate for the price. Everyone was satisfied with the taste. The only food complaint was from the picky eater who wished his food was warmer but I have seen this person send a plate back at other restaurants more than once. The picky eater cleaned his plate off. Wait staff was friendly & attentive. My only complaint was the noise level did make conversation hard for me to understand but that's not a make it or break it issue when the food and service make the grade. I would go back in the future.

The booster club that I'm apart of decided to have a meeting here as they had a private room where we all don't have to shout at each other and we could close the doors if needed. I'd never been here before but I already knew where it was as I used to go to the Ramona Flea Market a lot. The place reminded me of an old barn or maybe a Whistle Junction. I wasn't fond of it but it's the food that matters, right? I got the Burnt Ends with applesauce and broccoli figuring since I ate so bad over the weekend I'd eat a semi well-rounded meal. They also served wine so I got a glass of house Moscato. I'm used to my Moscato being a little sweeter but it'll do. Our waitress was friendly but I think she may have gotten over-whelmed by our group when taking orders. Some of our members were a bit impatient with her, I think because they were hungry more than anything. My entree came out and while it smelled fantastic, it looked nothing like the burnt ends I had at my favorite BBQ joint. These were barely "burnt" and very chewy. The sauce that they used to coat them in was good though. I'm undecided if I'd return or not. If I do go, it might be for apps.

Food was excellent, customer service not so much. My family and I came here after our fun day at the Ramona Flea Market because I've never eaten here before. We initially came for the All You Can Eat Chicken but I guess they either didn't have it or it was only on Sundays. We got seated by the bar, but one of my group members wanted to be seated on the other side towards the back, so they moved us. Our waitress was nice, but not customer service friendly. It was almost like she didn't want to be there and was annoyed by us having a good time. Anyways, she took our orders and they came out in an alright time. I had the baby back ribs with fried okra on the side and it was really great! I tried some of my friend's sweet potato and it was equally as delicious. They were have 2 for 1 beers and margaritas so I endulged in the margaritas and they tasted so good it was almost like there was no alcohol in there! Either they didn't put any in or their mix is just that good. I would cone back and eat again because the food is super good, but I hope the service is better next time.

I am all about second chances so here goes! Went for hubby's birthday. Waitress was friendly and attentive. She overheard us talking about his bday and delighted us with desert after dinner. Seven pepper steak - excellent. Just the right amount of kick and the steak was cooked to medium (perfect). Ordered the baked potato and gumbo with it. Sirloin - much much better then last time. For this steak I would come every day of the week. Medium rare and just the right melt in your mouth pink all the way through. A much better experience all around. Go on a Sunday night, it was practically empty and a good experience. Thanks to the manager (who reads the yelp reviews) for encouraging us to see her restaurant in a better light.

This place is always packed to the rafters, I guess because of the all day 2 for 1 drink specials. The drinks are definitely poured on the strong side. The servers are nice and the inside is Old Florida fish camp fun. We had the burnt ends which although plentiful were just hard square chunks of dry meat with a heavy liquid smoke taste. The slide of slaw was great though as was the extra side order of smoked turkey. The Carolina pulled pork was tender but had a metallic off taste and had been microwaved or was a day past its prime. The Key Lime pie was excellent! I did see an amazing in size and delicious looking fried chicken sandwich go to another table.

Would have loved to written a review but I got NO service. I was alone so I wanted to sit at the bar but it was full. (It was about 845 pm on a Thursday). The hostess told me to sit at any high tops by the bar, they were open seating. I sat there for close to 20 minutes in which no one ever came to my table. In the meantime a few barstools opened but there were still dirty dishes, purses, etc which made me not sure if they were really gone. ( maybe smoking outside?) I'm the most understanding person in the world when a place is busy. What upset me was that THREE different servers made eye contact with me yet I still got no service. Pretty disappointing for a place that's packed all the time.

Went here for first time with my wife' I ordered smoked brisket which was very dry, and very small portion. My wife ordered a barrito which looked good; but had a 12 inch long black hair in it. Waitress took it back and brought another one which we asked for it 'to go'. Also when we went there there was not many people other than bar crowd yet we had to wait 25 mins to get our order. I gave it two stars only for waitress otherwise would have been one star who under circumstances she handled everything very well, and was very cordial to us.

This place had an odd feel. Nothing was really wrong, but it felt like a major chain with something amiss. The food and service were good, yet this place felt a little more like a neighborhood bar than casual family restaurant. Still, I would return if in the area and looking for just a plain good meal at a fair price.

In Jax visiting and was dying for steak. Since Cross Creek was close the house, we all popped up here. Looks can be deceiving...the outside looked like the place was super busy. Came in the door expecting to have a 30 - 45 minute wait for a table. Nope...we were seated in literally 2 minutes. The staff was very polite and proved to have one heck of a sense of humor. I accidentally spilled my water...before the ice could finish sliding around the table...the staff came out of the wood work to wipe the table down!!! Their sense of humor was apparent when they brought me a "sippy cup" (otherwise known as a to-go cup complete with lid) for my water. First time eating gator tail. Was really impressed. Ordered the 14oz Ribeye with mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked PERFECTLY! Mashed potatoes were great, but could have had a little bit more of those for portion size. My wife ordered the same thing but got fried green tomatoes and she said they were awesome. My brother ordered the 7 pepper sirloin and he said the flavor was good but the steak was a little on the tough side. His wife ordered the 8oz sirloin and both my brother and her loved the marinade that was used on it. Overall an outstanding experience and wonderful food. Will definitely go back the next time I'm in Jax.

I catch a lunch here a couple times a month. The service and food has been consistent, I generally go with the Old Florida Burger, or the brisket when they have that as the lunch special. Favorite side is the ear of fried corn on the cob, served with shaved parmesean cheese. Getting into and out of the parking lot can be a challenge depending on the time of day and if you need to cross traffic on Lane Avenue. There were additional locations (franchised?) for a while, but I think they've all closed. I still chuckle that they've misspelled "Kinnan" on their menus -- a fact I've pointed out more than a couple of times.

Don't understand all the negative feedback. This was a most enjoyable dinner. We went early, around 330pm, and found that we could still order off the lunch menu. The waitress was friendly, orders taken promptly, food served timely. The ribs were great, although I added more sauce. The key lime pie was perfect. 2 4 1 drinks offered all day. Highly recommend.

Terrible food. We've been there twice. Once in 2005 and once in 2013, after they stole our favorite bartender (Brian) from Tom and Betty's. Both times were debacles. The food here is awful (honestly, do the posted pics really look good?). Over-salted (cook is obviously a smoker) and otherwise flavorless. The prime rib was mostly fat, the fish was so salty it burnt my tongue and the clientele is less than refined. I guess this must be where the cast of "Deliverance" goes for a "fancy night out". Yuck, Yuck, Yuck. If you want overcooked food with a lot of salt and the Beverly Hillbillies sitting next to you, (not to mention the cigarette smoke wafting in from the patio) this is your kind of place, but not mine. Brian, please go back to T&B's.

Went here several times for lunch and also for carry-out (10-15 people). They have Carolina chopped pork and plain old Pulled pork. I'm not a fan of their brisket but others I know love it. I don't know anyone who has ordered a steak from there.

This is an established BBQ and steakhouse with a down home neighborhood feel. The ambiance is old Florida with a couple wild animals mounted on the walls as decor. The bar area has several large flat screen TVs. The happy hour is all day every day two for ones. Mindy was our server and we will definitely be asking for her next time. She is friendly and helpful and actually gives you some space to talk with your table. Although the restaurant was packed the food did take a little while to come out, but once it did we were not disappointed! We started with an order of smokehouse chicken nachos with chili and queso. Sour cream, jalapeños and pico de gallo on the side. Very tasty. I split the full order of smokehouse salad. You pick which smoked meat for the topping and we opted for the turkey. Mindy served it to us and decided it should have more turkey. So she brought an extra serving of smoked turkey, oh and some garlic bread too! Another in my group ordered the 6 ounce Ocala Steak which was cooked to perfection. This is the place for you if you're looking for a solid, local steakhouse that leaves the pretentiousness out on Lane avenue.

I had an excellent experience here a few months ago when the all you can eat ribs was $16. I returned with my visiting father and was surprised to see now they're $20! I would have preferred taking him to Crystal River seafood for fish and shrimp AYCE for the same price as one person at Cross Creek...

Went with 3 friends before a show at the T-U Center and told our server. They had us out in plenty of time. Now, the food. It was excellent! The end cut brisket was so flavorful, the ribeye was so tender and the park-encrusted chicken was soooo good. I'm the only one who'd been there before and they were VERY pleased. Everyone is ready to go back any time!

Went here last Wednesday evening for dinner, it was the absolute worst dining experience we have ever had. Very Slow, it took 20 minutes for them to seat us, 20 minutes for them to take our order after being seated, and over an hour to be served our food. My wife got a vegetable plate and I got an over breaded, greasy, cold chicken fried steak that I couldn't eat. I guess it takes quite awhile to screw up a relatively simple meal. We told the indifferent waitress that we were not pleased and she vacantly said she would tell the manager. he came by 20 minutes later and acted like everything was just fine. So we got up and left saying we would never be back, not that he really cared.

I had an excellent experience here a few months ago when the all you can eat ribs was $16. I returned with my visiting father and was surprised to see now they're $20! I would have preferred taking him to Crystal River seafood for fish and shrimp AYCE for the same price as one person at Cross Creek...
