Healthy Meal suggestions for Cracker Barrel

I used to like Cracker Barrel a lot, but then just found the food a bit, much. Too heavy, but tasty. My daughter really had a craving for CB though and since it was right next door to the hotel we were at on a recent road trip, we popped in. The menu has been lightened up a bit, still decidedly southern. I looked up the nutrition info on my choice, fried catfish with two sides and it really wasn't bad, especially the smaller portion (one filet and two sides vs two filets and three sides. The fried okra was good, as were the mashed potatoes and biscuit. Took the cornbread to go, I'll have it for breakfast. The server was good. Very busy and easily sidetracked, but our service was cheerful and adequate. We were not on a hurry.

We ordered our food to go. We've been to a couple of other Cracker Barrels before throughout our cross country road trip, and this one needs to be closed. Horrible service. The fried Okra and sweet potato fries were microwaved. I won't be surprised if they microwaved the rainbow trout. They also didn't give us silverware after we had asked for it, and they gave us small drinks instead of the larges we ordered. After they gave us our to go order after 45 minutes of waiting, the cashier asked my husband if he was going to leave a tip. I'm glad he said no because we sat in our hotel in a soup sandwich of disappointment.

Like the breakfast but I swear they precook the eggs now. The bacon is average and under cooked . Great servers but food seems to not be as good as it used to be.

Cracker Barrel is ok. Just like my rating indicates. I absolutely love their pancakes and hashbrowns, but everything else I have ever tried falls flat. The service is not consistent. Sometimes its great, sometimes... not so much. Today I got the Chicken fried steak. It had no flavor, thick dry ground beef encased in batter. The hasbrowns were tasty. The biscuits uninspired. When I went into labor in 2013, I knew I was going to be hungry. I think I nearly gave my Mom & Mother in Law a pair of strokes when I insisted we go there for pancakes at 6 minute contractions... Sure enough, 3 hours later I was holding my little SuzieQ. Those pancakes were mighty fine and got me through some pretty intense labor. :)

Always busy on Sundays, but their fried chicken special on Sundays is bomb! !! The food is good and consistent, you always know what your getting. The breakfast stuff is so good! I also love the biscuits with Apple butter (by request! )

Worst experience ever. Server was nice but service was extremely slow and kitchen could not get it together. Food was horrible. Multiple people in the restaurant were having issues and the manager on duty was a joke and not handling it well at all. I will not return to this location...ever

Sitting for 30min waiting to be seen. Barely a person in the place. Turns out server had takin another larger table order and had to serve them their meal before she could take another table.

We stopped here twice on our trip to and from Palm Beach. The first time was about noon on a Sunday and the wait was an hour with people spilled outside all over the rocking chairs on the porch. We were starving and could not wait and went around the corner to Applebee's. The second time, we had no idea it was the same Cracker Barrel, but lo and behold...fate brought us back. Late Thursday afternoon and there was no wait. What can I say about a Cracker Barrel that hasn't already been said. Clean bathrooms, Same menu. Good food. Good value. Will you have good service? Probably, yes! This time I ordered chicken and dumplings with a side of cheesy hashbrown casserole and green beans. Mom had the pork chop, dumplins and veggies. Dad and my sister both had country fried steak with mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and green beans. They bring mini corn bread muffins and little biscuits to the table. I had to fight Dad for a biscuit because he was trying to smother it with country gravy. It was good but not as good if there had been sausage in that gravy! Always a good meal. A decent price. Food is always the same. Thanks Cracker Barrel!!

Good food and good service. Lost a star because they don't like to turn on the heat. It's cold outside and the only warmth I got inside was from my food. Not sure if my iron intake is low (so I ordered the hard fried chicken livers) or the heaters were broken but there was no heat. Keep your sweater/coat on during the whole meal. I don;t even like liver because of the tecture but the marinated and hard fried livers makes it some of the most enjoyable ones that I can stand. Now maybe if they could add spinach to the menu since I'm not a fan of other people's greens.

Cracker barrel remains a go-to place for basic simple food prepared in a traditional manner. I enjoy the consistency and quality of Cracker Barrel's meals without any surprises. When it cones to food, I do not like surprises....

After the all night PA to FL drive we was hungry and at this point even a Cracker Barrel looked pretty damn good. Normally we're not big CB people since while the service is alright the food is doled out chow hall cafeteria style with hash brown casseroles and meatloafs sitting under heatlamps/warmers for who knows how long? I mean where else can four people order four different things and have the food all manages to show up in under ten minutes no matter what is ordered? Clearly corners are being cut somewhere. I digress though as this trip was about breakfast not dinner. It was a bit before nine on a Saturday morning and at PA CB's that would be disaster in terms of people everywhere but to our surprise the whole place was maybe half full. I should also point out that this location is a bit of a pain in the ass to find as it's buried on a weird tree lined driveway amongst several hotels and a hospice facility. We got some pancakes, eggs plus a few other things and the food was well...CB quality. I assume it was made fresh even though it hit the table waaaay too fast. Service was tight with drinks being refilled a few times and plates being removed without issue. I'm still not a CB fan but at least with this one we were in/out and back on the road in around 45 minutes and that's pretty damn good in my book.

No complaints at all. Same great food you'd expect from CB, with some stellar service to boot. I had wonderfully friendly interactions with the server and checkout person. The hostess was nice as well. Some of the sides weren't as hot as they should be, but overall everything tasted a-okay.

The place gets crazy on Sunday afternoons the food is always good and table service is good even on high volume days. The high chairs had working latches and the bathrooms had changing tables - really great for folks with small kids. The front porch had two very active wasp nests. My wife went to an employee to let them know about it. The employee responded by saying "we called the other day about it". It's not the biggest deal ever. I just hate wasps.

This is a corporate training store, so it is always good. The servers and managers are very attentive.

It is good for breakfast, dinner was unimpressive. The chocolate cake was very good. Service was good each time I was there.

I'm sure there is not much to be surprised by at a Cracker Barrel, but as this was my first time I had no expectations. Food was meh... Basically a southern Denny's with more crap on the walls. I will give the service it's due credit and the dessert (chocolate pecan pie) was decadent and delightful. I'm sure if you're heading to Cracker Barrel, you have a decent idea what's ahead, so all I can recommend is to order within what you know... Don't expect miracles.

Can't go wrong with a meal of country fried steak, fried okra, green beans, cucumber/onion/tomato salad, and sweet tea. Service was friendly too. Everything was good per usual but I've had fresher okra there in the past. I'll be back.

I NEVER ask for chicken, EVER! My husband has had the Sunday special before and it is so good I had to have my own today. Service in this location is courteous and the place is not as crowded as the one on Orange Park.

Started the review from the smartphone, and got here to finish it and realized I wrote almost the same review several months ago. Dinging a star, because, as I wrote before it IS just a Cracker Barrel, and even with those not-so-lofty, fair-to-middling expectations in mind, I still want to have my drink topped off before it's been empty for 10 minutes. The manager was friendly, the service was... spotty is being kind. Yeah, it's nearing closing time, but it's NOT YET closing time. Food was ho-hum. As I said before, at least they're open past 9pm. Or they pretend to be, anyway.

Holy heaven, eggs in a basket! Try it, love it, have seconds. Always great service in this chain, not sure quite what it is but I do love it!

Never had a bad meal at a Cracker Barrel. Specifically, this location has always been good and the people are very friendly. You know what you're getting. Good down home southern cooking like your mom makes it. I like breakfast for breakfast and breakfast for dinner. Their chicken and dumplins are always awesome too. When you're done eating your kids can run around the old country store or play checkers. We usually sit in on the front porch in the rocking chairs for a while too...its relaxing.

pretty solid food. i was really in the mood for some breakfast for dinner so i called to make sure they served breakfast all day. They did. so i got the pancakes, hash browns and fried apples. the pancakes were AWESOME. super fluffy and light. but i was kinda disappointed in the hash browns and the fried apples. hash browns were just cooked potatoes. i love the kind that are grated and super crunchy on the outside. this was just too plain. and the fried apples were not really fried apples. it was just like apple pie filling. it tasted good, but i just expected something different so i was disappointed In that. walking distance from my hotel, and dinner only cost $10 with tip. can't beat that!

Direct ticket to diabetes. It's been so long since I have been here I forgot how unhealthy it is. I mean, if you eat here occasionally, that's fine, however, on a regular basis? It's not really vegetarian friendly. If I just wanted vegetables, a lot of them are cooked "the old fashioned" way, in meat. The country store. . .honestly it was nauseating, but that's just me.

A 3 star for me means that I will probably come back because the food etc. were basically good. Choices are fat oriented. Tuesday night the special was butter chicken with 'your choice of two vegetables" Our waiter, Hernando, made the meal. He is just a delight and competent

Friendly staff, serious country merchandise they force you to walk though to be seating (minus one star) but very country, very hot and very tasty food. Fried ocra and steak was very good. Price was incredible. Just as I remember from the 80's... Nostalgia.

I like Cracker Barrel as it's consistent, clean and the staff is friendly. The southern menu is comforting. I think they're a step up from diner atmosphere and its always nice to sit on a rocking chair.

I must say that they know how to place their restaurant. You have to step through all the merchandise before you can get to the hostess. I suppose it give you something to look at while you wait which isn't very long. We ordered the low carb half pound hamburger steak and french toast with scrambled eggs. It wasn't anything extraordinary and the portions were enough to satisfy our appetite. The decor was nice, which had some old farm equipment that I haven't seen in ages. Service was just ok but it was pretty busy when we went during lunch on Sunday. Seems like its a popular spot after church.
