Decided to try something new and happened to drive by this Cafe. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We had never tried Brazilian food before and he was more than happy to explain or recommend things on the menu. Because it was Saturday they had a special lunch buffet with a traditional dish called Feijão. This was basically black beans cooked with ham hocks served over white rice. We decided to go for it and man was it good! I'm familiar with Cuban food and this was pleasantly similar. Flavorful and filling, I was loving every bite. For dessert we had frozen açai pulp with granola, bananas and honey on top. Absolutely delicious and not at all heavy or sickly sweet. We took home some of their baked goods too: a carrot cake, some guava cookies and a whisky truffle. All very tasty! I will definitely be going back there again. Between the friendly staff and the delicious made-from-scratch food, you'll feel like you went to eat at a friend's house. :-)

Having lived in Brazil for 6 months, I had to check this place out. I came in the afternoon around 2:30 to get a snack. The owner greeted me immediately and asked if I needed help deciding what to order. I responded in Portuguese and he seemed very pleasantly surprised. I got a coxinha that was fried just for me. They fry them to order so they don't get cold. They also have pastel,(yummy!) which I will have to try the next time I go. They have a lot of baked goods and buffet lunches. They also have a TV with Globo - the main Brazilian channel so you can catch up on some Brazilian news and soap operas. I would definitely recommend it if you have never had Brazilian food, plus it's supporting a local business!

Was in the south side visiting a friend and we decided that we had a taste for Brazilian food. When we walked in we were a little confused about how things worked because the ordering counter is in the back and it's first come first serve seating but once all that was established it was a great experience. My friend and I were unsure about the menu being it was our first time but the staff was very patient and explained the menu to us. Once we ordered I forget the name of the dish but it was with chicken onions beans and rice. The chicken was seasoned to perfection and the beans were really good. Once we eating the owner stopped over and asked how our meal was and he also explained that on Saturdays there was a buffet. Everyone made you feel really welcomed. If you are ever on the south side and craving Brazilian food this is the place I left stuffed and will come back here for sure !

Went here for lunch the other day. I have been wanting to try Brazilian food so was happy to try this place. We came in and looked around and saw they had a buffet sat up for lunch. We told the girl we had never eaten here before and she was very friendly and answered all of our questions, I decided to go with the buffet and my hubby got a grilled steak platter ( with rice, beans, grilled onions, and salad) now with the buffet its a little different, being you make a plate with what you want then they weigh it and charge based on lb. I think it was 6.99 per lb. The food was really tasty and delish, his steak was great, a large thin steak with onions. The buffet had some dishes I was familiar with ( potato salad, rice, beans, plantains) and some new treats ( marinated potatoes, Very good! a beef stew, toasted yucca bread crumbs) I love trying new foods and was very happy to try this place, we will go back for dinner.

The coxinha chicken appetizer was AMAZING! Crunchy fried dough with a moist and succulent chicken and cheese filling. The chicken frango was very simply prepared and delicious. I loved the frozen acai dessert. This is a mom and pop business and the owner was gracious and eager to tell you about the menu. Go here!

Top notch! Had the Picanha burger. Freshly made roll, strips of sirloin, egg, ham, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and crispy potato sticks. You seriously don't need a side dish with this burger. Imported Brazilian drinks along with some that are more familiar to folks. Highly recommended.

Immaculate, authentic Brazilian cafe with uber-friendly onsite owners! All food, (including baked goods) is made in-house...my favorite. I tried the Frango sandwich - thinly pounded, well-seasoned grilled chicken breast with cheese, deli sliced ham, fried egg (YUM), lettuce, tomato and corn -- yea... I said corn, all on a delicious freshly baked bun. This item listed under 'Burgers' also incorporates a layer of potato sticks on top of this sandwich. HUGE! Definite pre-sandwich squish recommended on this one. Yucca is cut into small tater tot bites and are cooked beautifully as well. Lot more menu to try at this little Mandarin gem. :)

My boyfriend and I decided to eat here for our weekly date night and the food was AMAZING. We had a coxhina as an appetizer and shared a plate of risoto. The portions are definitely worth the price. Another gem in Jacksonville !!

Great place to eat. Owner was super friendly, as were the staff behind the counter. The Frango sandwhich was the bomb, thick on a soft bun with chicken, egg, cheese, tortilla strips... Yum! Will be coming back soon.

I went to this restaurant with my wife and her mother and sister. After we left My wife said she thought that that it was going to be a bit expensive. But in reality she felt kind of bad giving them a coupon, because the food was wonderful and plentiful. The owner moved us to a bigger table because he said the food would not fit on the table that we were sitting at. Do not go here if you are not ready to chow down, and take some home. Awesome food. Oh and Caçarola is to die for. Hamburgers are the size of a dinner plate on a homemade roll.

I like the people there. They are Brazilian and they are friendly and I can go there to practice my Portuguese, which is a bonus. This place is a mix between a restaurant and a bakery. They have a lot of yummy homemade Brazilian sweets as well as French bread and cheese bread. These, imho, are on the pricey side. I came here for linner (too late for lunch and too early for dinner) and ordered a la carte. You can also do a self serve thing where they'll weigh your food and you pay by the weight. I believe on Saturdays they offer buffet lunches but I'm not 100% certain. On the TV screen, they have Globo playing, which is awesome cuz I can get some Brazilian news or novela in. Yeah, I highly recommend it for home-style Brazilian food (as opposed to what most people are familiar with, which is churrascarias). I just wish the snacks and sweets were a little cheaper.

Brazilian Jax Cafe is the "best" Brazilian food I ever had period! I have been in many other Brazilian restaurants across the United States, including the Northeast--where there's a large Brazilian population; however, I have never experienced Brazilian food this fresh, authentic and with this level of quality. One of the owners, Cleudes, creates simple, and brilliant Magic in the kitchen--from the Calabresa (Grilled sausage) to the frango (grilled chicken breast). The desserts are absolutely incredible. You need to try their coffee too and breakfast sandwiches. It's becoming rare to find special places like this. Some people are settling and lowering their standards for the cheap, processed-junk some restaurants chains are serving these days. Brazilian Jax Cafe is a precious diamond in Jax.

My husband and I were visiting Key West, FL this past week, and on our way back to Chicago, we decided to find a nice Brazilian restaurant to go to. I googled "Brazilian restaurant Jacksonville" and, based on the reviews, we chose the Brazilian Jax Café. I'm Brazilian, born and raised, so I know how the food should taste like, and this restaurant brings it all. We went on a Saturday, so, of course, I had to have our beloved feijoada. It was perfect. For dessert, we shared a medium bowl of açaí with slices of banana and with some honey and granola. It was also delicious. It was my husband's first time eating açaí and he loved it! After eating I chatted with the owners for a little bit and they're super friendly. I loved my whole experience at the place, and the only thing that saddens me is that it's not in the Chicago area. :) The prices are very reasonable also, specially for a food that's not "American". You go to a sport's bar, for example, and eat cheese burguers and pay around $10 bucks per portion. My plate of food ended up being only $7 bucks and it was a lot of food, didn't need seconds. The total for the both of us was around $25 dollars, which is pretty good. Definitely a must try!
