Fried food and canned veggies. No thanks.

We've eaten here several times. The food has always been good but don't go if you don't have a lot of time. The all you can eat catfish is a really big portion so I couldn't go back for seconds. The waitresses are always friendly and we have a really good time.

If you're visiting the area--THIS is local flavor. Seafood and good, Southern cooking in an eclectic, quirky atmosphere. Right off the historic town square so it's nice to take a stroll around the old courthouse after dinner, too.

Very Good fried catfish, ask for it extra crispy. Very good conch fritters and cole slaw.

5 stars for the catfish dinner! Plenty of food on the plate for the regular size dinner, ayce catfish if you are really hungry. Make sure you get the salad and ranch dressing because it is the best in size and quality, substitute it instead of the slaw. The fried veggies/ shrooms (ask them to mix them 1/2 & 1/2) are also a must! When stone crab claws are available make sure you get them here.

Charming restaurant. Friendly and efficient wait staff. Nice variety on menu and dinner specials. Good food. Large portions. Both of us had seafood specials, very tasty. Recommend, and will definitely return.

Only time I've EVER not reordered at least once at an all-you-can-eat! Food was outstanding. Had catfish. Others had shrimp, crab legs, and flounder. Huge portions! Service was excellent... Ask for Barb!

Over the past year or so my favorite place to eat in all of Citrus County has deteriorated in regards to some of my favorite menu items. Having been a frequent eater and long time lover of this restaurant and its menu, I had to keep going back. Having always loved the catfish I was disappointed when it first showed signs of not being as it once was...deliciously addicting. The catfish started tasting not quite the same. By my third try at it I realized I had a sour stomach each time I had ate it. I knew there had been a chef change when I order the clam chowder. The clam chowder was no longer delectable, regrettably, it was watery and flavorless. Another time I ordered the steamed shrimp. Usually the steamed shrimp comes pre-cooked in Old Bay seasoning, however, this new version came with old bay on the side. Luckily, in between these deteriorating meals I did have a few highlights with a fish dinner, a shrimp dinner and with the seafood platter (3times...yum). We also cannot say enough good compliments about the fried vegetable appetizer and the Gator nuggets.

A nice little restaurant in downtown Inverness. The first time I went there I walked in with my co-worker and we were met with silence. Nobody was there to greet us, no sign to "seat yourself" ... the old west and tumbleweed were in full force. So it turned out we abandoned our lunch attempt and moved on. However, the second visit was much better. Greeted by a server and gave us a table in a very efficient and quick manner. Our waitress was super nice and helpful. Having lunch at the same time as us was a large group of 20+ people and our waitress recommended placing our order so the kitchen could get our food out first ... and she was right. The grouper sandwich was very good. Flavorful yet simple. There are a few choices in downtown Inverness, so this was a good selection and a much better second visit ... worth going back if in the neighborhood!

Dim and cavelike, which was welcome on a sunny day. Wall-to-wall wood, beer signs, nets, taxidermy. Too clean and mainstream to be a dive. Cheerful if animatronic service. The $10 fried catfish dinner was large though fish was dry and bland with a capital bla. Nice tomato slices on an otherwise undistinguished blackened catfish sandwich. Perhaps half a dozen draughts of middling quality. At two bucks a throw, who's complaining? Clearly, there are those who love Stumpknockers, possibly more for great times than good eats. But four stars seems excessive to me.

This restaurant had a nice atmosphere, but the food was not good at all. I went based on the positive reviews and wanted to love this place but didn't. I ordered the catfish which was wet and mushy as was my corn on the cob. I really couldn't eat anything on my plate. My son ordered a grilled chicken breast that was absolutely covered in pepper. He had to scrape it off to be able to eat it. That was the only thing on his plate he could eat. I asked the waitress for our bill, but she never came back. I had to finally get up and go track someone down. What a disappointment. We paid for dinner and then had to drive somewhere else to get something to eat!

I give this place two stars mainly for the service, which was friendly. The food left much to be desired. Not being from Florida I had never heard of this place and so I didn't know what to expect. I went on whim with some coworkers and so it didn't occur to me check the reviews, if I had I would have ordered some seafood even though I wasn't in the mood for it. I ordered the Open Face Steak Sandwich. What I got was small piece of meat that was mostly fat on two slices of toast. This was not a sandwich. It was a small, bland steak with a side of flavorless bread. Why anyone would try to pass this off as a sandwich is beyond me. Even the seafood my coworkers ordered was sub-par with the exception of the Blackened Mahi Mahi. The comments on the seafood casserole special in particular ranged from bland to just awful. The food I ordered was so disappointing (though the Mahi Mahi seemed good) that I will not be going back.

Was driving through Inverness looking for a good place to stop and get some great seafood and was not disappointed. Food was top notch. We had the peel and eat hot shrimp and the grouper entree. Everything was super tasty and tasted very fresh. Service was great and I love the causal atmosphere. Prices are really really reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you get.

Not bad food, but don't plan on doing anything after you eat since they will keep you hostage here forever! We always tend to come on off-hours for lunch when there aren't many people in the restaurant, but the servers are always missing in action. I don't mind waiting for food, but it's silly when you're waiting 20 minutes for the check. With that said, their food is surprisingly good for being out in the country, and they have giant portions! The peel-n-eat shrimp is great, and it seems like you get a lot more than a lb of seafood. Delicious! Their salads are always a great choice- Cobb with blackened chicken is a massive portion, served with a yummy hardboiled egg (get the Blue cheese dressing- yum!) Someone in my group got the grouper sandwich, and the fish was hanging over all sides of the hoagie bun it was on! They also probably have one of the better burgers in the area (not to say that it's the best burger in the world, but you take what you can get out here since restaurants don't seem to season their food too much to accommodate for their primary audience). Overall, it's a fun little restaurant full of fishing memorabilia located in the heart of downtown Inverness that serves up some good food on laid-back island time.

Great Atmosphere, Service and Food We were down from NC for a wedding and decided to go to Stumpknockers after a long drive that day. We've been to Stumpknockers a number of times going back probably 15 years and have always enjoyed it. This time was no exception. Walked in and were promptly seated and presented with menus, beverage orders taken and the speicals explained in rapid succession. Menu is normally Seafood, Steaks, Sandwiches and an occassional surprise. This time was no exception. One of the specials this evening was meatloaf which I have never seen on the menu. My wife loves a good meatloaf and that was her choice that evening. I had a Seafood platter with fish, oysters, shirmp and crab and as usual it was delicious. Parking with the one way streets can be a bear if you are not familiar with the streets but worth the effort. I'm familiar with the area and even I made a wrong turn and had to circle the block to the restaurant.

Pretty good seafood and an eclectic interior. Tried this place out on a Friday night while passing through the small town of Inverness. Our server suggested the gator nuggets since they are a Stumpknockers patron favorite. The gator nuggets were pretty good, but a few of them were really chewy and overall just very heavily breaded. The gator nugget dipping sauce of a light, sweet mustard was very good. I also tried the 1lb of shrimp appetizer with the shrimp steamed and lightly spiced, these were simply wonderful! For an entree I had the flounder stuffed with some real crab and some imitation "krab" stuffing. It was just okay, nothing outstanding about it, but good if you're hungry. The service was quick for the appetizers, but we waited at least 30 plus minutes for dinner to come-it was a bit long for me. No one checked in to say anything during the wait. The seating was quick considering the place was completely at capacity and I know it's a busy place. There was a big similarity of customers throughout the restaurant. I had time to look around a lot at the customers and decor while waiting for dinner to arrive. I think I must have been there for the early bird dinner time as this seems like a local retiree hotspot. This is a nice place to stop you find yourself in Inverness. Stumpknockers seems a bit like a Cracker Barrel with more seafood to me.

I LOVE this place. anytime I come to visit my grandparents I request to come here. Their clam chowder is delicious and I get the catfish every time. Sometimes it can be a little bit of a wait but I've never been disappointed in the food.

Great local place, food is always just right. Try the grilled chicken chef salad or the steamed shrimp for the lighter side, but they have lots of traditional fried seafood too. Gator nuggets and fried mushrooms are great!

Worst shrimp po' boy I ever had. He'll , the ship was so tough I couldn't ever eat half of the six pieces. It was also served on a hot dog bun. You would be better of going to the grocery store buy some Wonder Bread, Mrs. PAUL Frozen Ship and a jar of mayo - and eat it frozen. The hamburger was dry and the chicken finger were flat and tastless. The water was awful, the soda was awful. We tried it without the ice and it was still bad. I've never added to a review but you need to know. I ended up with food poisoning. I spent the rest of the day and the night very sick. We had to call our Doctor for advixe. Fortunatly I did not end up in the ER. Stay away!

Amazing food, quaint atmosphere, and good service. Blackened grouper was perfect in every way. Coleslaw reminded me of my childhood... Divine! The hushpuppies, oh the hushpuppies. If you try nothing else, you MUST have the hushpuppies. Fish dip was a specialty item. Perfect beginning to a perfect dinner.

Go to the other one. The food and service is not to par for this place. Something changed along with the taste and quality. The decor is great and the people friendly but that's it.

We've been coming to Stumpknockers since moving here 3 years ago. We always brought our guests here for dinner and generally haven't been disappointed - until now. I've had their Fab 4 dinner, scampi style 5 or 6 times in the past and always loved it. We came for an early dinner and I ordered it again. The shrimp was rubbery and very overcooked, the scallops were completely flavorless. The muscles were good, but instead of a nice scampi sauce, my pasta was swimming in unseasoned water. It was horrible. I did something I hate to do - I sent it back. Apparently the only thing that was heard was that the scampi sauce was missing because the same plate was brought back to me and the water was replaced with scampi sauce. It came with the same overcooked shrimp and flavorless scallops. I spoke to my server again and instead of offering me a fresh meal, she tried to tell me about some sort of shrimp and bacon dish she would bring me. I was hungry so I said okay. She brought out a dish of 6 shrimp over a creamy pasta. The shrimp were properly cooked, but the spice level overpowered the shrimp. I did not like it so I sent it back. I ended up eating the crab and muscles. The waitress conferred with someone and I was charged something like $8.95. Whoever she spoke to apparently didn't want to speak to me as they never came by the table. When the bill came there was a "mistake" in the math and an additional $10 found its way onto the bottom line. We had it removed. The original meal should have been 86'd and a new plate fired which is what I expected to happen when the plate was first taken back to the kitchen. While I'm on it, avoid their corn on the cob at all costs. It's nothing more than flavorless, overcooked, frozen corn. Their salads are always fresh and flavorful though. We used to send a lot of traffic to Stumpknockers. No more.

Went with a group of friends. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Outside seating perfect on a pretty day! Good place for kids. Food was decent but you get your money's worth. Recommend Gator bites and Blackened Grouper Sandwich.

My husbaNd and I enjoyed the environment and fast service by Steven. Husband had a shrimp po boy which he would recommend and I had the fried grouper which was ok but only because we get most of our grouper fishing ourselves :)

My guest ordered blackened mahi-mahi and I got crispy catfish as others on here recommended. My guest's mahi-mahi was absolutely delicious, but my crispy catfish seriously lacked flavor. Both of our side items were delicious. I especially enjoyed the coleslaw. Our waiter, Rob, was super friendly and attentive. Overall, I would come back again, but order something different than the crispy catfish.

Stopped here with friends who live in area during the winter. They stop here occasionally and thought we'd enjoy it, as well. Had the catfish sandwich and liked it a lot. Followed it up with a piece of Key Lime pie. Server was attentive. I'd like to stop back and try some other items if I get to the area again.

Great food, great atmosphere and great service. The portions were huge, the beer cold and prices fair. I highly recommend this restaurant. I'll be back the next time I'm in the area.

We started w/ hot wings. Pretty good and lots of choices for flavors I had the daily special; a roasted turkey plate. $10! Home cooking style potatoes, dressing, gravy and cranberry sauce. We also sample the pan fried gator steak and the pork chops. all great choices! Save room for key lime pie. Nice, clean restaurant. Casual. Good food and great service.

Loved this place! My father-in-law brought my husband and I here when we were visiting them in March and we LOVED it! I got the catfish plate, but everyone got something different and it all looked good! Next time I want to try the "veggie" appetizer - it's all fried! Growing up on the gulf coast, I love fried catfish, but I don't ever order it living up in Birmingham, AL. The fried catfish did not disappoint! We'll be back next time we're in town!

Ate at Stumpknocker's last night. It was exceptional. The hubs and I have tried eating here before but each time they were closed. He had eaten here one other time, back in 2004, and kept telling me how great the food was. I scanned the reviews on our way there the first time. I checked them again last night. I have to comment about two of them 1) to the Yelper who said "Eat at the other one" Both of the locations are close enough they have to use the same Vendors. One location could not have better food from another unless they are so far apart the Vendors are different. The difference would be who is doing the cooking. 2) to the Yelper who complained about the server Missy? She was our server last night. I could not agree less with your evaluation The staff was friendly and on point. There was a nice breeze and the restaurant was pretty full so we sat outside. Our server was Missy. She was attentive, personable and very helpful. We opted to not order an appetizer and go straight to dinner. The hubs ordered the all you can eat catfish with slaw, fries, corn on the cob and hush puppies. I went with the trio- A crab cake, 3 catfish fingers and 3 shrimp, baked potato, salad, corn on the cob & hush puppies. I am not a fan of catfish and asked if grouper could be used. Missy said that would be an easy swap. Beer first. They have a Stumpknocker's pale ale, Bud Light and one more Yang Ylang ( if I remember correctly) on tap. Pitcher of Bud Light for the table! The slaw and salad came out first. I had a bite of the slaw and it was good. The hubs would like them to use more mayo (he has a thing for mayo; no matter the amount used it is never enough. I thought it was plenty) The salad- lettuce was crispy, red onions vibrant and tomatoes were perfect. Main course. The hubs left no catfish behind. He said it was better than he remembered. I did have a bit of his catfish. I am still not a fan of this fish but can see why people rave about it here. My trio- All items were coated in a corn meal batter and deep fried. The baked potato was perfect. The corn was a little over cooked but with some salt and pepper the flavor was exactly what is was supposed to be and I gobbled it down. The shrimp were plump and succulent, the grouper fingers were spectacular and the crab cake could have been better. I love crab cakes. My love affair with this seafood cake started when I was young and am quite particular what makes an excellent crab cake. The filling was good; big pieces of crab and little pieces of chopped onion. The ratio was perfect and the flavor was fantastic! This is where it stopped for me, however. If the cake hadn't been as fat OR if the cake had started in the oven and finished in the fryer the meal inside the cake would have cooked more. The moisture wasn't a good thing because I felt it was undercooked. So yes, I was disappointed. But not every place scores high on their crab cakes so I was ok with my disappointment. Besides the shrimp and grouper were incredible so I had more to focus on. We split a piece of key lime pie. I had a bite without the whipped cream first. It's very important to do this to discern if the custard tastes like it should. Wow! Creamy, sweet with just a bite from the tartness of the citrus. The graham cracker crust was perfect and well, I wish I had ordered my own piece. Stumpknocker's? You guys nailed it last night. We will absolutely be back. I am not affiliated in any way with this restaurant. I had never met Missy before last night. I gave it 5 stars inspite of the crab cake b/c everything else was fantastic!

49 y/o male and world traveled. Have eaten out 10x a week for 30+ years. We where in Inverness for a couple days to do the Crystal River manatee thing. High School friends came up from Naples to visit on a saturday night and everywhere in town on this holiday weekend was booked up. I called for a party of 8 and they said they would have a table ready in 15 minutes. Perfect. Nothing amazing about the interior it is nicely decorated with the usual nostalgia type nick knacks and signage. Menu is mostly seafood with the usual beef ,salad, chicken, and burgers added to round out the offerings. Our waitress Rebecca greeted us immediately with humor and suggestions. She was dead honest about what not to order and did not point us to the most expensive items as most do to increase the tab. Instead she made real suggestions and described what she liked and disliked about certain offerings. She had great knowledge of the beer selection and pointed my father to a local beer he loved (he ordered a second which he NEVER does). My wife had a bite of the Cajun soup which she did not like. Rebecca jumped right in swapped it out for the coleslaw which if you like sweet and creamy is amazing, without hesitation. The prices are very fair for the amount of food served and my captains platter was a real bargain. They do a simple seasoned flour, egg wash, then seasoned flour again fry. We tried amongst us 8 a large variety of dishes and everyone was pleased. Have I had better? yep I sure have but this is simple very tasty seafood. My wife ordered the queen cut prime rib 12-14oz and it was on the larger side. Perfect medium rare and very well seasoned. The food is a solid four stars but Rebecca made our night. Her humor was fresh and pleasant. We where well taken care of and my wife and I rated her in the top three waitresses we have ever had. We tipped her 25% she is a huge asset to this establishment and we hope they realize that. Even my 14 and 17 y/o daughters noticed how great she was and that IS really saying something.

Mediocre chow; not outright bad but at the same time not really good either. I get the impression they spend more time thinking about the decor than the food. French fries are frozen Ore-Ida type and the shrimp poor boy had 4 tasteless, overly breaded shrimp on a soft hamburger bun shaped like a French roll, rather than a proper French roll. And no roumoulade. Edible but not a proper poor boy. My wife had a very bland grouper sandwich on gooey bread. The johns are clean though.

The parking to get into this place around lunchtime can usually be difficult but I lucked out and got a space in front. When you first walk in I was shocked at how big the interior of the restaurant is. They have a nice old Florida feel as well as an up to date bar. I came here for lunch and decided to get the coconut chicken salad with different types of fruit it was very much a nice surprise of a salad coming from what I thought was a fried seafood restaurant. I would definitely come back and order the salad again and maybe some of the different seafood items. I did order the peanut butter pie and I recommend sharing it with somebody because of its size but I also recommend seeing if the restaurant can freeze or cool the slice because it would add to the enjoyment of the pie.

This was by far one of the worst dining experiences of my life. Waitress (Missy) was curt and impolite from the moment we sat down. In the middle of taking our food order, she left saying she was paged that someone else's food was ready. When she came back to take our order (10 minutes later) my nephew ordered crab legs to which she replied ("we are out of crab legs"). He ordered something else but we began seeing several other tables receive orders of crab legs. When we saw a table that ordered AFTER us receive crab legs, we were upset but did still not say anything. After waiting over 30 minutes for our food, the kids meals came out. Missy never asked if we wanted the kids meals first which tells us they would be served with everyone else's meals (which we wanted). After waiting another 20 minutes (and with the kids finished) my youngest threw up at the table (most likely from the disgusting vegetable that was passing for corn on the Cobb that evening). After spending another 10 minutes cleaning up my son, the food still WAS NOT ready. My wife cancelled her order and when my Mahi arrived it was over seasoned, over cooked, and dry (barely edible). When my "loaded" baked potato arrived "plain", I asked Missy if that was a loaded baked potato to which she replied she would get one. We finally spoke to the co-manger Michael and Missy about the situation. Missy admitted the kids meals should not have been brought out first and she was slow on taking our order and slow on refills. When we called her out on lying to us about the crab legs, she admitted that she sold an order of crab legs after telling us there were none. Her explanation of "the kitchen was able to get an order together' was no consolation to my nephew who would have been happy with a half order or just an appetizer size. Missy made no effort to tell us "the kitchen was able to get an order together" and instead just let a later table order the crab legs. I was and still am beyond appalled at the unbelievable lack of service we received on this evening. After this 2 hour ordeal including Missy lying to us, terrible service, and my son getting sick off of their food, co-manager Michael was only willing to comp our drinks (2 draft domestic beers and a few ice teas). Needless to say we will not be returning and we will be sure to tell anyone else in the area to stay away at all costs unless you enjoy being lied to, getting sick, and being treated like second-class citizens.

Been coming her for a while. They have the best sweet tea. Today I have the special turkey dinner with cornbread stuffing and mashed taters. Turkey was moist and tender. Very good. Tater and stuffing was great too My friend had all you can eat catfish. He ate all of his first serving. They have attentive staff and good prices.

Crab legs, cha cha cha! Heck yeah to outdoor seating so that we were able to bring the dog which is always nice. They even brought him a bowl of water. Waitress convinced me to get the "broken crab legs" special which was basically the same as getting the regular snow crab legs, except cheaper. The garlic & butter sauce was awesome. My only complaint would be that they came out warm (not hot) so they got cold really fast. Ribeye was tough but well seasoned. And the Stumpy wings were good, but the sweet & sour thing wasn't my favorite. Also, I'd opt for salad over coleslaw. Italian dressing was homemade and delish! Our waitress was awesome, portions were huge, food was good and we had a great time so I'd definitely recommend this place.
