Seat yourself at the picnic tables And prepare to enjoy a great meal. Baby back ribs are to die for. Chicken is good and not dry. Sides are standard American Fare. Try the collards and the jalapeño cheese grits. Friendly family atmosphere.

Awesome Barbecue Checklist: Old looking place with smoke coming from it: Check Irresistible Smell walking in: Check Country music playing and picnic tables: Check Bbq sauces, brisket, and pulled pork: Check Packed with "white" people: Check This place has everything needed to be an awesome bbq stop. If you want great bbq, get your a$$ down to Homestead and try this place. We all got a bunch of stuff and shared it all. The bbq sauces were great. The sweet and the mustard sauce was amazing. The smokey sauce - eh, not so much. We got beef brisket, pulled pork, spare ribs, baby backs, sausage, fries, hushpuppies, cole slaw, and cornbread souffle. The cole slaw was good, but a little too sweet. The cornbread souffle was awesome. (tasted like mashed cornbread). Now on to the important part. The meat. The brisket was awesome. Juicy with just a right amount of fat attached. (Sliced brisket too, which if you have been on a bbq hunt across Florida like I have, is damn hard to find). The pulled pork was tender and tasty, but portion was kind of small. The andouille sausage was amazing. We got a full rack of spare ribs. The spare ribs were good and if you like bark (little burnt), then get some. (about 12 ribs ) The baby backs were awesome. Fall off the bone. No room for dessert. Overall, the place is a must-visit for everyone in South Miami/Homestead. The service is friendly. The prices are great for the food you're getting. Get you and your friends to this place. Now.

Ok seriously, what kind of BBQ place doesn't serve Mac & Cheese or corn as a side dish? I am so disappointed with this place. The waitress was less than pleasant and I still have heartburn 6 hours later. Wot be returning here, I'll drive a little further south to Sonny's.

If you're craving BBQ, this is the place you need to go! My friends and I piled in a car and drove down to Homestead after reading reviews of how great this place is. I wasn't sure what to expect when we first arrived. The place looks like something I'd find driving down a small town road in Alabama. I half expected to see alligators chilling on the side of the road and a creepy man with a banjo. We walked in and sat in some picnic style type tables, looked over the menu and let me tell you, yelpers, my mouth was watering while reading every item. I finally placed my order (wings and ribs and beer). The food came out fairly quickly and we all just sat in awe, staring at each other's food. When I tell you that not a word was spoken aside from the occasional "mmmm" and head nodding, I am not exaggerating! We all picked at each other's items, wanting to try the different things we ordered. We left full tummies and vowing we'd return for some amazing BBQ! There are days I wake up craving Shiver's, mouth waters and all. Damn them for being so far away! But God Bless their BBQ!

It's a shame that I have lived in this city for 30 years and have never ventured down south to eat at Shivers. Here are the simple facts. 1) Great BBQ, some of the best I have had. b) Even better service, my server was a doll, and so was everyone else in the place. 3a) It is not fully of itself, no fancy gimmick, no "bar program", no specialized musical playlist to help them legitimize their southern food, and cornbread souffles, brisket, ribs, slaw, & root beer. FTW stop being lazy, if you're willing to wait 1 hour for a table at yardswine, you'll do much better driving 40 mins for this.

My hubby suggested we stop at this BBQ place he went to some time ago while working south. Since the area is a little sketchy, I was aprehensive... I am SO glad I put my (irrational?) fears aside and got out of the car. This place was awesome! I felt like I walked into an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. The place was super clean and the atmosphere was casual and very different than most places in Miami. The crowds were nice, normal families out for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately I have a hideous sinus infection @ the present time so my tastebuds were only working @ about 50%... I plan to go back as soon as I'm better to taste everything again with a functional palate. We ordered the Corn Nuggets (delicious) which we dipped in their very yummy BBQ sauces (the orange sweet one was awesome.) We shared a full slab of ribs which came w/ 2 sides. We decided on corn souffle and 2 servings of sweet potato souffle (my husband was adamant it was too good to share.) The ribs were perfect - meaty, tender, juicy, the BBQ sauce was tangy and sweet. Awesome. The souffles were out of control, I am so glad we did not share the sweet potato souffle. It has this ridiculous crumble topping and walnuts... it was like having dessert. A definite must-try, it is worth the drive.

THIS IS BBQ!!! I first visited this place 2 or 3 years ago for my birthday. Since then I have not found any comparable BBQ place anywhere. Shiver's is my kind of place. Not fancy, just great food. The ribs are amazing, spare or baby back, does not matter. The BBQ chicken is sooo tasty the pulled pork is heavenly. The brisket is succulent. And the sides are just as awesome. The collard greens, the black eyed peas, the beans but my favorite is the corn souffle. It's a soft pillow of a heavenly sweet corn. You can throw a dart at the menu and pick anything. Everything here is delicious.

BOOM! Hands down the best bbq in all of south Florida. Not sure what that fuss is about about the service. Your TIP justifies how good the service is. We here want to know about the FOOD. I will tell you they have the best beef ribs everrrrr. I've toured around the country and Shivers is in my top 3. Love it love it... Sides galore. prices are reasonable. Will always return.

Absolutely love this place. I planned a 30th birthday lunch last weekend and although they do not take reservations, I did call ahead that morning to let them know that I was expecting approximately 18 people to join. When we arrived they were quite busy, but communicated with us any updates. The actual wait time was not very long and once seated, we were immediately tended to. They refrigerated the cake for us and took orders in a very friendly and courteous manner. The wait time for food was average considering we were a larger than average party. Refills were a plenty and all kids in the party content. No need to ask for the cake, they brought it out at the perfect time along with a special piece of birthday pie and also sang. I felt they made it their personal mission to help make this an enjoyable birthday lunch. It was great food, great friends and a wonderful time for all. Many in the party drove an hour or more to get there and mentioned they would definitely go back. Very happy!

I'm a true Southern transplant in South Florida. I've sampled some good bbq in Georgia, Tennessee, the Carolinas, and Alabama, but this is some of the BEST I've ever had, not to mention THE BEST in South Florida. Definitely true BBQ. Try the squealin' pig potato skins and the cheesy hashbrown casserole for sure. Order at the window to go! New favorite place!

Came back on 4/12/14 and had great food. I had the baby back ribs (1/2 rack) with coleslaw and conrbread souffle. The coleslaw is very good and the cornbread souffle....I can eat this all day long. We had the banana pudding for dessert and it was as good as they rave about.

Being from the Midwest and living in Texas for a few years, I feel like I've had some good BBQ in my life. Shiver's has decent food. We had brisket and pulled pork. Both yummy. If I were rating solely on the meat, I probably would've given 3 stars. It was good but not outstanding. I gave the extra star for all the awesome sides they have. My personal favorite- fried okra. I also had the sweet potato soufflé. It was the most delicious sweet potato dish I think I've ever had. I could come here and just order sides/appetizers for my meal. I plan to return.

My favorite BBQ in Miami period. The beef ribs, BBQ nachos and pulled pork are off the charts good. It's worth the drive to homestead, staff is polite and the atmosphere is very inviting. I will be going to shivers until I am no longer able. Must go.

  • Lissette G.

Just ate there for the first time yesterday. Wow! The baby back ribs were phenomenal and the cornbread soufflé was outstanding. Our waitress was incredibly nice and efficient. Best ribs in Miami for under $20. I will definitely return.

  • David S.

A traditional hole in the wall bbq joint, with community dining tables, and actual "pulled" pork. The pulled pork was delicious and I was glad the blackened fat cap was mixed in with the meat instead of pulled out like many places. The sweet potato and cornbread soufflés were pretty amazing. For a BBQ joint, it would have been better to just leave the toast off the plate if your not going to use actual Texas Toast and give you a full slice. The baby back ribs were tasty as well.

This is by far some of the best bbq ive had.... 1. I have tried bbq in NC and Tennessee both delicious and I must say shivers is right up there with them ..except in a city where you wouldn't expect to find great bbq. 2. I've been to blue smoke 3 times...considered number 7 of the top 10 bbq places in the US by TLC best food eats: bbq.....shivers is better hands down..and blue smoke is pretty damn amazing! 3. My bf and some of his family moved here from NC...they absolutely love shivers and credit it as being real bbq... Thats enough for me to give it all the stars I can...must try the fried corn and the squeeling pig skins...and the hush puppies...and the pulled pork sandwich ...and the peach cobbler....get the point? PS when you go...keep in mind you are in homestead technically not Miami..

By far the best bbq in south florida and the prices are affordable...not like Shortys and Sonnys the food is a joke never consistant and overpriced...worth the drive always good. I highly recommend it.

This is very simply BBQ heaven. Great food, service, prices...I am new to the area, and will definitely be a regular here!

A drive up the road past Sonny's BBQ Loud with long pic nick seating but the AC is COLD! Great for families and groups with friendly table service. Strike up a conversation with your neighbor. You're all here for the food. Brisket sandwich $ 7.99 with beans and slaw. Side of Andoville sausage $2.79. The prices can't be beat. Next time I'm in the area, I'll be sure to swing in.

Shivers BBQ freaking rocks!! Some of the best damn BBQ that Miami has to offer. Not only do they have various delicious cuts of finely BBQ'd meat...they also have delicious sides. The sweet potato soufflé and the corn bread soufflé are out of this world! I would go there just for that! I love the fact that they have communal tables and you just find a seat wherever you can fit. Now that I think about it...I'm going to go to Shivers right now and get some of those amazing soufflés!

This place deserves more than 5 stars. By far the BEST BBQ in Miami. Actually the best BBQ I've had ever! The options on the menu are so so good that we needed the help of our extremely nice waitress Chris to choose our meal. Must haves include squealing pig appetizer (pulled pork potato skins), baby back ribs, and bbq pork ribs (the rib trio is the perfect entree). The hush puppies and corn nuggets were delicious too. The apple dumpling with ice cream dessert is AMAZING! Definitely worth the 45-minute drive we took to try this place out!

I was traveling down south to Knauss berry farm with a cranky and hungry bunch. I checked my yelp app and the first recommendation for that area was Shivers. I had never heard of it but I had to feed these people so we headed further south. I ordered the hickory chicken which is a grilled chicken sandwich with bbq sauce, bacon and cheese. The chicken was so big that it was falling out of the bun. If you order a sandwich you get 2 sides so I selected the bbq baked beans and fries. All delicious and all that for $8! I am extremely picky about ribs and for years I thought I just didn't like them. I tried one rib, just one and now...I need to go back for more. My 2 year old niece, pregnant sister, and 87 year old grandmother approve! PS- Shiver's has coloring books and crayons for kids. Its a great distraction while we watied for our food.

Excellent, awesomely yummy BBQ. Hands down better than any BBQ restaurant I've been to, including Salt Lick in Austin, TX & Bennett's in Gatlinburg, TN. I had the spare ribs with sweet potatoes & corn bread souffle. I got 4 or 5 ribs & they were huge,; I couldn't eat all of them. The cornbread souffle was awesome & everyone in our party of 15 thought the same. I also had the sweet potatoes, also very good. Two people in our party ordered the hamburgers & they looked so delicious & both said their burger s were great. Everyone in our party was very happy & we all agreed we would go back and that's saying a lot because we all live 1/2 hour or more away. Oh yes, very friendly staff & excellent service.

OH man, This place is good!!! If you are from San Diego, its as good as Phils BBQ, if not, better. You will be surrounded by Federal Agents in the Arm Forces if you go during lunch time. I got the Half rack bbq ribs and it was delicious. The waitress will be giving you your receipt and you will have to go pay it in the front. There might be a long line for you to pay.

Really great everything. Best BBQ for sure. I had the pulled pork because I don't eat ribs, and it was a great alternative. Everybody around me had ribs and also tried that cornbread souffle, amazing. Everybody is right, and this place is the best! Get the sweet tea, too.

    (5)
  • Jeremy G.

Stopped in last night while traveling for work. Ribs were good, pulled pork was dry in parts and had fat in it like it was overlooked while they pulled it. Pretty quaint place with picnic tables inside. Kind of wish the server let me know you pay up front; I had my credit card sitting on the bill for a while before it donned on me.

We were in the area visiting near by Coral Castle and stopped in for a late lunch. The atmosphere is cozy (everyone shares long benches) and southern. WOA! Every single thing we ordered was delicious from my sweet tea to dessert! First off don't go there trying to budget your calories, this has gotta be a cheat day. We started with fried okra which was a good portion, nice and crispy and fresh. My hubs had the shivers burger with sweet potato fries and the delicious corn souffle. He thought all his items were very tasty, and i couldn't help taking over his corn souffle. I had the beef brisket sandwich with french fries and hush puppies. The brisket was so tender and the bread soft. They have a choice of two bbq sauces, one sweet and tangy, the other is a mustard bbq, both very good. The fries were thick, crispy and fresh and the hush puppies were flavorful. For dessert we had their homemade banana pudding, Oh my gosh, delicious! My husband does not like banana flavored foods but ate half of my dessert! Next time we are in Homestead we will definitely go again, so many other yummy things to try!

Fantastic barbecue. As many of the other reviews have stated, this is a must eat in Homestead. I was in Homestead for a business trip and stopped by for lunch. Ordered a regular pulled pork plate with a sweet potato souffle and collard greens. Everything was delicious. Lots of meat on the regular plate, and I wouldn't have a problem splitting the jumbo plate (which is only $10) with another person. The sweet potato souffle was like nothing I've had before. It was excellent. I intend to go back later in the week to try a few more items off the menu.

  • Macy T.

excellent food and service I had the half chicken and therefore was too full to eat my sides which where heavenly the cornbread souffle and sweet potato souffle are both absolutely killer. The tea and lemonade were both very homemade tasting and wonderful, I would absolutely eat here again!

I called in my order and the "lady" who took my order was very short with me. So i went to pickup my food she was talking to a cook that she didn't want to get in trouble. I was thinking with that attitude no wonder. She was a big lady blond hair. The food was very good, but service was horrible. She need good customer service.

Took my youngest daughter here last night and had an "am I dreaming" experience. The jumbo pulled pork sandwich was exactly what I was looking for. I'm not a fan of mustard-based sauces, so I put the spicy bbq sauce on mine. It is KILLER. The smoked andouille sausage was crazy good, as were the hushpuppies. My daughter loved her ribs and we BOTH loved the coleslaw; very old-school and delicious. But how do I write a review without mentioning the INSANELY friendly waitress (I think her name was Paulette) and the fact that the owner came over and spoke to my daughter and I for at least 10 minutes? She was so warm and friendly and welcoming. For us, it's a drive, but for the reasons mentioned above, we'll be back over and over and over again.

The ribs were cooked well and fall off the bone. Meat was tender and juicy. I was not impressed with brisket though. Service was quick and staff are friendly

Without a doubt this is the best place in Miami for BBQ. I am a true Southerner (read: White country boy) and I can unequivocally say that this is the best BBQ down here hands down. Other places (cough cough - Shorty's - cough cough) are absolute garbage, but of course down here in Miami when that's all you know is bad BBQ most people just go there. Nasty crap. I love the feel inside this restaurant. There aren't separate tables. Instead, they have picnic tables that run along the back wall and in the middle so you might be eating next to someone you don't even know if you go during a busy time. I think it adds to the charm and further signifies that it is a true BBQ joint. Anyways, you have to get the Pork here. Pork anything. I usually opt for the pulled pork because there is no better embodiment of BBQ than a well-smoked, juicy and flavorful Boston Butt that they use to make pulled pork. Also, the sauces here are outstanding, ranging from sweet to regular to mustard. I'm not a fan of mustard sauce in general and usually opt for the sweet sauce and I always lather my BBQ up in this sauce and it is excellent. Additionally, I love getting the Tater Tots as a side because you can't find them at many other places and they are very good here. I'm sure they are frozen and fried, but whatever, it's a BBQ joint and the prices are right. I have yet to find a place that makes their own Tater Tots so that's irrelevant. For dessert, do not get anything else except for the Banana Pudding. I grew up on Banana pudding and the key is using the bananas right before they go bad so they are the sweetest. This pudding is a very close replica to what my Grandmother used to make for us on special occasions and it reminds me of home. So, go to Shiver's to eat REAL BBQ. Anything else is just a very, very distant second.

Super place for BBQ ribs with a fun, local ambience. The best sides were corn soufflé and collard greens. Black eyed peas were too saucy. Football on the big tv screens. Excellent place for a casual meaty meal.

  • Lacey E.

I took my husband here based on the good reviews. He LOVES to eat and eat ALOT!!! The ribs were outstanding and the meat came right off the bone....very very good!! My only tiff was I was expecting more when ordering the Jumbo size plate. Like I said my husband loves to eat and it didn't quite fill him up, luckily he always finishes my food.

By far the best BBQ I've ever had. Highly recommended. I had the baby back ribs and they fell off the bone. Definitely worth the long drive. The corn soufflé was out of this world. Can't wait to go back.

Ever since the Pitt BBQ on Chrome and Uncle Toms in West Miami got new owners, their food has never been the same. The last great BBQ restaurant in South Florida is Shivers in the Homestead/Naranja area. They still do it the right way, smoking low and slow! Their smoked country Ribs are huge and delicious! They have all the BBQ staples you'd expect to find at a great BBQ restaurant and then some. And if variety is what you want, the combo platers let you mix and match. Their side dishes are excellent too especially the Jalapeño Mac n cheese and fried corn nuggets! The place is old and has a lot of character, nothing fancy decor wise. Seating is picnic table style like Shorty's and depending on when you come can be a little crowded. When I lived in South Miami I'd drive all the way down here for my BBQ fix and I even lived across the street from Shorty's! If you're in the area, definitely a great place for Country Comfort food!

  • Tom R.

What else can I say but delicious!!!! This is a local favorite that was a hit with us. I loved the side dishes as well as the tasty pulled pork sandwich. If you like BBQ - you will be glad you stopped in.

Just discovered this treasure in Leisure City, far better than Shorty's, Sonny's, and Woody's barbecue in South Florida. My wife and I just had the best BBQ ever at Shiver's, I had the Brisket jumbo plate and it was tender, juicy and delicious! My wife enjoyed the pulled pork/baby back ribs combo and it was equally impressive, fall-off-the-bone delicious. The side dishes were remarkable as well, the baked beans were good, but the corn soufflé is in a league all it own, seriously THE BEST side dish. All in all, this place is a bits off the beaten path and a good 30 minutes drive into the rural southwest portion of Miami-Dade, but well worth the trip.

  • Barbie V.

Shivers was delicious! My husband was craving BBQ & found it on Yelp. We went with 2 friends and tried: baby-back ribs, corn bread & sweet potato soufflé, corn on the cob & the banana pudding all was to die for!!!

  • Dan C.

Was in the mood for BBQ when staying in Florida City, and found Shiver's. So glad I did! I had the half-rack of pork ribs and brisket platter. Without exaggeration, these are the best pork ribs I have ever had, and the brisket was amazing! I didn't use their sauce, because the meat just didn't need it. The restaurant is set up communal style, with everyone sitting at a few long tables, so it's easy to come in alone, or with a large group and just join the crowd. The night I was there, the staff and customers were all very friendly and welcoming, and I had some good conversations with strangers. Just be aware that if you order "a glass of beer", it comes in a very small glass - maybe 10 oz. of beer. If there are at least two of you, order the pitcher - it's a much better deal.

This BBQ joint is always jammed packed !! The place is small inside with western decor and has been around for over 50 years !! The food is really good and you can smell the BBQ down Dixie Highway.. I tried the Beef Brisket and loaded it up with different BBQ sauces to choose from. The portions were a little smaller than I expected for a family owned joint . I would go back and have a full rack of Ribs !! Yee Haw !!

I love me some BBQ... and this place does not disappoint. Started by sharing the potato skins. They were very good. Nicely executed, bacon had great flavor. I had the beef ribs, cornbread soufle and jalapeño cheese grits. Huge portions The flavor was awesome. The cornbread soufle could be a dessert is it so delightful. The grits tasted great. The only warning I must head is that they are solid not soupy, which is what I was expecting. But the flavor was good. The beef ribs were great. The only complain I have is that I usually like my beef ribs to have the meat coming up from the bone, that's where the beef has more flavos. These were meaty, but it was the meat between the bones. The flavor was different that what I'm use to, but still very good. My friend had a combo plate that included baby back ribs. Those were great. I think have baby backs next time. The BBQ beans were also good. She also had the sweet potato fries. I didn't try this, but was told that they were cold. Overall, great BBQ place. Excellent service. Good decor. Great food. Next time, I think I'll order the Rib Trio with hush puppies. I'm Definately having the cornbread soufle again.

Yum!! Loved the cornbread souffle, collards and pulled pork. Everything was awesome! Sweet tea was wayyy too sweet, but I just had her top mine off with unsweet. Definitely some of the best BBQ ever, which is surprising in south FL!

Ribs were excellent, tender and well cooked but not overdone. Pork was fair, i found it tasteless and needed to drown it on their awesome pepper BBQ sauce Brisket was very good too. Sauces and sides were very good. Get there early or be prepared for a long wait for your food. Service is slow unless you get there early. Place is packed with military personnel from the AFB. Recommended.

This by far is the best BBQ I have ever had in South Florida. We happen to be coming back from the keys this weekend and someone recommended we stop by and check them out.....Its a modest bbq restaurant Looks kinda like Shorty's when you walk in with picnic tables lined up throughout the restaurant. We ate the baby back ribs with fried corn, fried macaroni and cheese, the beef ribs, cole slaw, sweet potato fries, and the buffalo hot wings hahaha we were really hungry anyways between the three of us we loved every single one of those items. The service was awesome, food was great, and the prices were cheap if your in the mood for good bbq this place is worth the drive!

Whenever I'm in Miami, I head down south to this place as a ritual. This is the best BBQ I've tasted in South Florida. The only two downsides are the location, and the fact that the tables are covered picnic types so you likely will be elbow to elbow with strangers when it's crowded. Other than that, the BBQ is tender and flavorful. Try the sliced pork sandwich which is to die for!

Best BBQ in south Florida hands down!! The owner is so cool too, I pulled up in my car and she's like I'm gonna get that car soon ya' know lol

We have lived in the area for 3 years and finally decided to to try this place out.... we were quite disappointed. My husband and I ordered baby back ribs and pulled pork, both of which were dry and burnt in many areas. We sampled the different sauces and none of them hit the spot.... the ribs had their sweet sauce which was quite bland. We do not plan on returning. If we are in the mood for BBQ we will either make it ourselves or head down to Sonny's.

Very good food, the coleslaw was maybe the best I ever have had. Babyback ribs where also real good. Will eat there again for sure.

I love their ribs. Hands down best ribs in south Florida!

Some of the best Bar-B-Que I have had in quite a while. The ribs fell off the bone. I had the corn soufflé - super yum. One person in our party got the baked beans and said they were the best he ever had. We splurged and had the banana pudding for dessert. If you have room a must have!

I'm a big fan of BBQ and Shiver's is always consistent and finger-lickin' good. I love the fact that you can show up wearing most anything and you'll fit right in. I also love how everyone sits family style at picnic tables. Grab a seat, anywhere you want, and have read of the placemat menu. The choices are mind-boggling! Chicken, catfish, ribs, burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers...then you have to choose your sides. This is where the Libras in the crowd may lose their minds. So many options! Black-eyed peas, the best collard greens, garlic bread, baked beans, tater tots, fries, green beans, sweet potato souffle, cole slaw, corn souffle, jalapeno cheese grits. All good. The appetizers are darn tasty, too. Squealing Pig Skins (tater skins with shredded pork), fried mac and cheese, onion loaf, and great corn on the cob. If you're lucky enough to be there when they have pumpkin souffle for dessert, well, don't pass it up! They know how to make a cobbler as well. Stop in for sure. It doesn't matter what you're wearing. You'll fit right in and I know once you try it, you'll be back.

The best barbecue you can get in miami! Shivers offers huge portions, awesome prices and a homey atmosphere. My favorite thing to get on the menu is the brisket sandwich with corn soufflé, fries, collard greens, pulled pork sandwich is also a fave. The service is great and I have a fun time and a good meal every time I come to Shiver's.

Super-casual restaurant with really good bar-b-q food! I would definitely recommend it to anyone! Enjoy!

I had the pulled pork sandwich with BBQ beans and slaw. It was good but the sauces need a little work to make it really great. The wait staff were friendly and seemed happy and well fed. Great stop if you're in the area.

OK, this little out of the way place is worth a try. The building and interior is a western type atmosphere. The cashier is NOT very friendly or welcoming; especially for the new comer. I ordered the spare ribs with BBQ beans and cornbread souffle. The ribs were very tender but seemed boiled, a bit fatty and certainly did not seemed smoked. The variety of BBQ sauces were fair (a bit salty), the BBQ beans seemed to be from a can, the cornbread souffle was VERY good and definitely a must have. I also had a piece of the peach cobbler (that came fresh from the oven)....DE-licious! My server was very friendly, quick and attentive. I will go back to try other things.

Well... I'm not from the area, but I happened to be in Homestead after a Skydiving adventure. Let me tell you... I know some good BBQ when I eat it. Shivers has the best ribs I have had in a long time. If you are within a 5 mile radius... this is where you should be eating! No doubt about it. It consists of about 5 or 6 long wooden tables and some good ol' fashioned BBQ. The corn on the cobb is also outstanding. Nice waiters. Free refills. If it wasn't so far, I would be Shivering on a weekly basis.

Great home style BBQ!! The corn bread souffle is amazing, the ribs are outstanding! My family has been going to Shivers for 50 years!

This is the best BBQ in Miami that I've had so far. And I've had some good BBQ in my day inc. Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City and Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse as my #1 all time favorites. However, this place is a dump. You have to share bench seating picnic tables with strangers, which I really could get past on its own. The place is small and this allows them to serve the most people, I get it. But then tack on terrible service. Oh I'm sorry waitress, clearly we are bothering you when we request a lime for our Corona, napkins, and a straw for our fountain drink. So sorry to have such bothersome requests. The pork BBQ is good, ribs are great. Stay away from the coleslaw and be sure to have the fried corn app.

Recently after skydiving a couple of us got real hungry. On the road back we passed by and decided we had to try it out; to continue our current adventure was the goal. We came in and it made me feel like I was at school lunch, the place is filled with table benches, 3 rows of 4. We went all out ordering 3 plates to share; I Full BBQ Chicken , Baby back Ribs , a BBQ Baby back and spare rib combo, fried Mac and cheese, onion rings, corn on the cob, French fries, sweet potato fries, and hush puppies. The food was amazing! We all sat at the table for a little while doing the "Curly Sue", finger by finger and then proceeded to ask for the check, carried each other out of the restaurant and went home to take naps. I recommend this place to any one in the area hungry enough to dare enter. Amazing food, and an extremely friendly and helpful staff, it is a great place for everyone.

Having grown up in Homestead, I've been to Shivers more times than I can remember. The quality of the food has been consistent over the years and any additions to the menu have been favorable. The layout is simplistic with long tables and benches, typical western/southern decor. Their food is flavorful and you get a good amount for the money. I usually enjoy the all-you-can-eat chicken on Thursdays, which includes two sides and garlic toast. The hot wings are huge. They also have prime rib on weekends, also tasty. Pretty darn good homemade bbq sauce, too. The service is generally good; quick and attentive. Convenient takeout as well.

Great and warm southern service. The food was very good, it is a littleout of the way but worth the drive down south. Go for the baby back ribs, you will not go wrong. Also try their corn cake, it is delicious. Do not expect fancy tables, but be ready to enjoy some great BBQ.

Loved the pulled pork yummy.. However I went there twice and the first time was perfect. We went for dinner and again for lunch yesterday but it felt like we got the leftovers from the night before and the waitress wasn't the friendliest.. But as a whole their food is great and I love the fact that it is really clean.

Good local BBQ. Braving the construction traffic on US 1 right now is worth it for the yummy bbq here. Good for big or small groups. Dinning is in a giant picnic table type fashion and it makes life easy. They make a sample plate that has the best of all the bbq, and the soufflé sides rock. Very casual dining, come as you are. Kid friendly!

I never thought I'd find BBQ this good somewhere along the lines of Miami. I don't really like when people say that they know what real BBQ is because they're from NC, TX, GA, etc. but I have eaten "authentic" food at those places. And I can honestly say that Shiver's puts up a fight. A fight that it might actually win. I've been here before and really liked it but it was a while back and I didn't actually get to appreciate its gastronomical excellence. But after a few visits recently I have discovered that this is one of my favorite restaurants due to many reasons. Ambiance: This place has been here since 1950. It definitely needs to have something going for it. This is also in Homestead, a city that is not as populated now. So I can't imagine how isolated this place must have been 60, 25, or even 10 years ago. And even then, you can tell people still came. The place is like walking into a log cabin with long picnic tables. This may not be for everyone since they might have to share tables with strangers but this is what Southern Hospitality is all about. Southern Hospitality in Miami. Go figure. It makes me laugh just at the thought. There's pictures from many years ago all on the walls and just lamps and fans. Its very simple decor but its somewhat homey and makes you feel like coming back. Service: The service is great. Southern Hospitality driven waitresses serve you drinks at appropriate times and make conversation. They don't hover over you and make sure you have everything you need. Its just the right amount of a love with a little "sweetie" and "honey" thrown in there. Food: Saving the best for last. This goes along with price. I felt for that the quality of food, this place was dirt cheap compared to other places. Go to any other place to get a full rack of ribs for about 18 dollars but over here you get a rib trio for the same price. This is a generous amount of ribs that is equivalent to more than a full rack and a half in my eyes. The BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich is about 7 dollars. Brisket is fairly priced as well. But this isn't one of those places where you get cheap food and mediocre flavors. The food here is probably one of my favorites ever. Especially some of the classic BBQ sides. Baked beans, cole slaw, hush puppies, black eyed peas, and a very good spin on cornbread into a cornbread souffle (may be my favorite thing here). Overall, I will be found here more often. It may be a bit of a drive from home but I am definitely willing to make it for such great Southern food. Its a shame for Miami to not be represented in its region as well as it should. We are part of the south, after all.

Great lunch at Shiver's BBQ. Excellent baby back ribs and pulled pork. As good as the meat is, the sides really steal the show: great variety and well-prepared. I highly recommend the cornbread soufflé. The sweet potato fries and the BBQ beans were also excellent. Fast, friendly service and reasonable prices. An all-around winner!

Came to Shiver's after picking strawberries at Knaus Berry Farm with my family. We ordered the corn fritters appetizer and the "pig skins" (potato skins filled with pulled pork, BBQ sauce, and cheddar). Excellent appetizers! The BBQ meats were good; we had tender beef ribs, great pulled pork, OK brisket, and a not-so-good "rib" sandwich (a burger). The sides unfortunately did not deliver. The mashed potatoes were horrid, the sweet potato fries tasted like the premade frozen variety, the jalapeño and cheddar grits were just OK. We decided to split a peach cobbler at the end of our meal and it was undercooked, peaches were canned, and the flavor was just not there. What really turned us off, though, was the dismal service. Our waitress never removed any plates from our table, never refilled our drinks, and asked us as she sped with a tray how we were doing without listening to our request for additional cutlery since she had only brought 1 knife and 3 forks for a party of 5. To top it off, she brought the "original" BBQ sauce, which we put all over the pulled pork and brisket. Unfortunately this happened to have been tartar sauce. So there we sat with meats soaked in the wrong sauce, with no service to correct the error. Needless to say, we will never return.

This looked like a geniune BBQ place from the outside, and it was on the inside too! They seem to be from the Carolina side of the BBQ family but it was very good.

The food was ok but the service was terrible. A large group came in after we did and was serve first. !t took us an hour and a hlf to get our food!

The BBQ is REALLY good and I love all the authentic Southern sides. The restaurant is clean and airy and the tables are spaced so that you aren't part of the coversation behind you. The waitstaff is pleasant and efficient and, in my limited experience of two visits, gets everything right. It's worth the drive and we're looking forward to heading South again.

If you find yourself heading south on US1, make sure you plan a stop at Shiver's Bar--B-Que. This place is the Real-Deal for southern BBQ. I'm talking - not to be missed -jumbo pulled pork sandwich, beef brisket, and the best baby back ribs....Love! There are several sauces to choose from, but i'm all about the house made sauce that's more like BBQ gravy. Sooo good. Plenty of good- ole southern sides as well. Exceptional cole slaw (eat it on the sandwiches), hush puppies, baked beans, great corn on the cob - dripping with butter, and on the weekends, try the jalepeno cheese grits. Oh My! For dessert, have the house made banana pudding (my daughters favorite), the perfect finish. Enjoy :.)

This place was great.....It's in a not so beautiful part of town, and right now major construction on the road in front=heavy traffic. It is worth it though. The interior was really cool, with long picnic bench like seating. The sauces are the best that I have ever had. Try them all.

Typical roadhouse bbq joint. They provide waiter service so you just grab a seat and they take care of you. We ordered the baby back and pulled pork combo with sides of sweet potato and cornbread souffle to split. You don't get too much for 13.99. about 6 ribs, a scoop of pork and a scoop each of the souffle. The ribs were tender and falling of the bone. It did not need additional sauce. The pork however was on the fatty side with chuncks of fat throughout. The sauce help mask the greasiness. The cornbread souffle was really good and a definite must get. The sweet potato souffle had too much sugar and was too sweet. They did have fried corn on the cob but we didn't try it. We also wanted to order some stuff to go to make sandwiches the next day. We wanted a chicken and some brisket but unfortunately they only sell brisket by the pound and no less. so all we got was the chicken which was tasty and huge. It lasted us at least two more meals. This place is worth a try and is right on the dixie.

Excellent broad selection of southern barbecue. Rib trio of baby-back, spare ribs, and beef rib was great. Brisket was solid. Sides were also tasty -- sweet potato souffle tastes just like Thanksgiving. Although the restaurant is informal with long shared tables, service is actually very attentive. Highly recommended.

Well Im back on yelp after a very very very long hyadus, LOL. I had to write about Shiver's I recently moved to Homestead and decided to try Shiver's due to reviews I found on here. I loved it Its a true Bar-B-Q, The appetizers we had were fried Mac and cheese and fried Okra they were both super good i couldnt decide which one i like more. I had the baby back ribs with coslaw and Cornbread soufle. The cornbread soufle was amazing Yummy ! the ribs were also super good I want to totally go back because the food was so good , If your in town be sure to stop by. I know ill be going alot more. We were on vacation in south Florida and found Shivers on Yelp. We tried as much as we could on the menu and it was all good. The waitress was very friendly and made great suggestions. My favorite was the beef brisket. The chicken wings are smoked and flavorful. Great sides and sauces. The hotter bbq was not hot but was peppery and very good.

Usually pretty good bbq, but occasionally you get slightly dry meat, which can be remedied by their delicious Shiver sauces. Typically though, the food is excellent. Especially the pulled pork platter with sweet potato souffle. Prices are pretty good too and the portions are prefect, considering im 5' 11 and 190.

  • Nikki K.

Great meat (I had the baby back ribs, my husband had the pulled pork) but what really made the dinner were the sides (okra, black eyed peas, sweet potatoes, cornbread) and the desserts (banana pudding, key lime pie). It was a very casual, fun place to take our family - the kids loved their meals but especially the desserts.

When I did my review on Mamma Mia's, this is one of those finger-licking good BBQ spots that I mentioned that are definitely worth the drive to Homestead. Their ribs are to die for! I mean, I'm not one to really get down on ribs (not because I don't like them but because I hate getting sauce under my fingernails-eeek!) but these are an exception! The meat of the ribs just falls right off the bone. OMG delicious! Oooh and their friend macaroni... think I'll make a stop that way this weekend.

  • Mark O.

This was the hands down the best barbecue I've ever had! Granted I'm from Utah, so my expectations are low, but it was amazing. The sides were just as good as the meat, maybe even a little better. My wife and I left completely satisfied, but a little sad that we live thousands of miles away.

MMM mmmm goood! This place is a staple down south - it's been here forever and they've been doing it right and doing it better since then! The service is great, everyone is pleasant - even the customers! The ribs are definately finger lickin good - you don't want ot waste a bit of that sauce! If you like BBQ, you've got to get yourself down south!

We ate here on 1-7-2012 for lunch and we loved our meals. Ribs and other foods were great! We were down in south Florida for 2 days before our cruise and this was the best meal we had during that time. We also ate at Vigneto's in Plantation and Padrino's in Hollywood, but neither of those places were particularly great. Shiver's is a great place to eat after exploring Coral Castle, which is very close by (check out that place too!).

    (4)
  • Frank E.

Shiver's is awesome BBQ, plain and simple, it's good, it's really good... everything I have eaten here I have enjoyed, from pulled pork, to the baby back ribs, even their sides like the hush puppies and jalapeno mac & cheese are all excellent. The service is always great too, you come here and experience a little "southern hospitality" an unknown and foreign concept in most of South Florida... if you're down south, really, really south... definitely give this place a go!

1 star short of PERFECT only because "i've had better". But it is safe to say this is the BEST bbq restaurant in Homestead. sweet potato soufle is amazing. cole slaw up to par, over all RECOMENDED and i will return.

This place was AH-mazing!!!! My husband and I consider ourselves self proclaimed foodies and this place did not disappoint! We came in a group of 5 (plus our 18 month old daughter) and we all were raving about the food long after we had left. I ordered the 1/2 chicken with the Cornbread souffle and Sweet potato souffle and WOW....pure deliciousness! We had ordered the fried Okra and Fried mushrooms as starters and they were both very good. I'm not even a fan of mushrooms and I liked it. My husband ordered the baby back ribs/pulled pork combo also with the Cornbread souffle and the hush puppies and he was very impressed with his food. The meat was juicy and tender and perfectly seasoned. His baby back ribs fell off the bone and the pulled pork was delicious. Don't even get me started on our dessert (clearly we came with big appetites)....We had the peach cobbler and OMG! It was heavenly! Even my daughters kids meal (the mini corn dogs with sweet potato fries) were good....she barely made a peep while she ate nearly her entire meal! I highly recommend Shivers BBQ.....it was so worth the drive! Cannot wait to go back :)

Best BBQ in Miami! I went about 6 months ago while driving back from the Keys and I'm still thinking about it. Ribs are phenomenal and the side dishes are typical but a little different than most BBQ places. It's a gem. Got to go back.

We visited on a weekday and the traffic was light. Service was excellent- our waitress was warm and friendly. Food was good, but comparable to Shorty's and other BBQ joints. We were expecting incredible taste, but what we got was good not great. Recommendations would be the corn bread souffle, baby back ribs and pulled pork. The prices are good so it would be worth another trip back. Three stars for the food, but I upped it to four for the service.

  • David C.

I am a huuuge fan of Barbecue. I smoke barbecue food as a hobby and Shiver's is up to par with my standards of barbecuing. However, the service wasn't so good. Don't ask to split checks and your better off paying cash.

Best BBQ in town by far! I have been here about 8 times and I can not say I have ever experienced anything wrong with this place. Their food is phenomenal and perhaps it may be because I just love their pulled pork and corn souffle however everything on their menu along with the quality of food, truly is awesome! It's casual, it's homey and you leave feeling stuffed to the brim in a food coma... but what good BBQ place doesn't? =)

Alright... they get it, the coveted 5 stars. Was back in Florida for a conference, then went on vacation in Key Largo. I had to drive twice back up to Homestead just to eat BBQ from Shivers. I had the big combo plate, and the pile of bones left behind looked like a small herd of tasty creatures met their demise in some tasty fashion. This place rocks! The BBQ is outstanding, and the sides are divine. If you are a true BBQ fan, go out of your way to visit this place. Yum!

This bbq is an institution in southern Miami-Dade, as it's been around forever. In fact, I remember coming here since I was a kid. Overall, very good barbeque. One of the two best I've had in South Florida -- although not the best I've ever had (that would be in Houston, unsurprisingly). Shiver's is neck and neck with Shorty's a bit further north. And while I think Shorty's baby back ribs are a bit better, Shiver's clearly wins in the Spare Rib department -- they're smoky, slow-cooked, flavorful and fall off the bone without being dry. Plus, their side selections are very good, including well-executed baked beans and cole slaw -- not to mention items like sweet potato fries and collard greens. Of course, they also offer quite good chicken that's moist and perfectly cooked, as well as staples like brisket and pulled pork. Also, their Key Lime Pie is great and authentic-tasting. They get the balance between tart and sweet right, with it neither being a mouth-puckerer or sickeningly sugary. It was so worth it that when we were living in California and I wanted to bring my wife a sample of authentic Key Lime Pie, I took a chance of missing my plane to detour here for a pie-to-go. Due to this side trip, I had to drive like a maniac in pouring rain to the airport. All this for their Key Lime. That's good pie. Finally, while Shiver's sports the standard picnic-table and cement floor approach of almost all authentic bbq places, everything is quite clean. In fact, I'd say it's cleaner than typical for an authentic rib joint (i.e. not some Tony Roma's style faux-bbq place). Overall, I think it's worth the time and going a bit out of your way to experience real, proper low 'n slow ribs and brisket.

A must stop on your way to the Keys or if you're in the Homestead area! If you're from a Southern state you won't be that impressed but it's pretty good for South Florida. The soufflés are amazing. The seating is the only downfall. Sometimes you find yourself literally rubbing elbows with other guests. Seating takes place at one of three large picnic style benches with other guests so it's not very private.

This locally family owned restaurant is fantastic! I am from Kentucky so I have had some really good BBQ but I have to say this is one of the best BBQ joints I have ever been to! I have eaten there several times since being in Homestead and have not been disappointed once with any meal I have gotten. The corn nuggets for appetizer are the best I have ever had. And the BBQ ribs are fantastic. Really good smoke flavor and great BBQ sauce. All the side items are great as well including the coleslaw, French fries, sweet potato fries, hush puppies, and baked beans. Now time for dessert. They are all good. My favorites are the homemade banana pudding and chocolate caramel pie. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.

So after a week of road tripping around Florida I've eaten a hell of a lot of meats! Some from chain places which were surprisingly good and overall I've decided that the yanks do meat - WELL! We were craving a 'proper' BBQ meat so after turning to trusty Yelp we visited Shivers BBQ in homestead. We had to wait to be seated... At 3:30pm on Memorial Day (bank holiday Monday in May) it was PACKED OUT! I didn't mind waiting around and it wasn't for long, perhaps 10 minutes. The place was full of what appeared to be locals and it was running like clockwork... A sign of a good food place I say! The food arrived (I had baby back ribs and pulled pork combo with coleslaw and sweet potato fries) and it was huge! I was REALLY hungry and was quietly confident that I could finish the lot..... WRONG! The meat fell off the bones of the baby back ribs and pulled pork was tasty and juicy. Fries were great & coleslaw homemade! I was one happy bunny!! Im on my in homestead as an overnight between the Everglades & the Keys and if this is where you find yourself on your trip in South Florida... You NEED to eat here!! Why not 5 stars? Good question. It was warm inside and they don't have air con. The staff were lovely but there was a very very slight feeling of being rushed toward the end of the meal... Almost there Shivers. Almost there!!

BBQ was not one of the food genres that i had on my radar when planning for our South Florida excursions BUT the Homestead locals insisted that we eat at Shriver's BBQ while we were here. They weren't lying. After spending time in Atlanta,St. Louis, KC and Texas I've kinda become a BBQ snob so needless to say I have high expectations. When we arrived it looked like something was going down in the restaurant because there was 10+ squad cars in the parking lot and a few officers loitering the parking lot. Usually this is an omen to NOT stop and find someplace to eat... Nosy, I asked a loitering officer if there was something going on inside and h said that they have a birthday dinner going on inside the restaurant. So on this night, Shivers was the safest restaurant in town... After the 10 minute wait to be seated, I ordered the fried pickles, squealing potato skins and a pork trio (1/2 slab of baby back ribs, hot link and pulled pork) The pickles were the only things that I did not care too much for.. The pickles were greasy and what little brading that was on the pickle did not hold. It seemed that our pickles were rushed.. Thats the only explanation that i can think of why there were so meh... The squealing skins were an interesting twist to the normal skins that everyone is accustomed to. These crispy little monsters packed some serious heat! They made the beer go by a little faster (I'm sure that's why they are made this way j/k) The meats: Pulled Pork, Baby Back Ribs & Hot Link Of the trio, the ribs were the superstar! - Fall off the bone - Nice smoke ring - Nice char and glaze. The pulled pork was decent BUT I think would be better fresh off the grill. I could tell that the portion I got was swimming in a warmer for a while. In summary,I will say that Shiver's is honest to goodness BBQ even for a BBQ snob like me :) Eat with confidence -Pat

Now this is what I call BBQ! Fall off the bone ribs, delicious sauce, delicious sides, win win win! We came here on a Sunday with some friends who had eaten here before and being that we were in the area and are always down for BBQ we stopped in for lunch. Be warned they can get super packed during lunch time so you may have to wait a while for a table. I ordered the half rack of ribs, pulled pork combo and shared multiple sides with my husband because I wanted to try them all. In all we had these sides: hash brown casserole, baked beans, cornbread casserole and sweet potato, they were all DELICIOUS. The sweet potato side is more like dessert for me because it was very sweet. I tried some of my husbands brisket and paired with their bbq sauce it was to die for. If you find yourself down south in Homestead stop by Shiver's for some awesome BBQ at great prices. I'm already planning on going again very soon!

Delicious BBQ. It's surprising to be this far south and have such good bbq. I had the burnt ends with jalapeño cheese grits and collard greens. It was all delicious. I will definitely be back next time I'm passing through town.

I've lost track of how many times I've eaten at Shiver's over the years. Since that fateful day so many mango seasons ago when my dad decided he wanted to go "South" on US-1 and see what the heck was down there. I remember sitting in the back seat and leaning out the roll down window of his red Toyota Corolla, making those wavy motions with my hand as the air rushed beside the car. My mother as always, in the front passenger seat arguing with my father about driving too fast. Thanks to my mother's caterwaul, my father decided to stop at that little brown building. I still remember how we sat in silence licking our fingers of sauce and the big BBQ stain on my new shorts from where I dropped a huge glob of sauce and pulled pork. Fast forward to today... I walked in for the umpteenth time to sit at the long picnic tables full of people devouring one or more of the combination platters that make this place famous. The smell of smoked meat, ribs, chicken, and corn on the cob all brings back those memories. The food is still as delicious as ever. Judging by the patrons sitting around me, it looks like generations of families still come here to have the famous Shiver's sauce, messy fingers and all. For the uninitiated, here are a few suggestions.... First, it's going to be a messy, finger licking affair. There's no way you're not heaping that barbecue sauce on your meats. Secondly, if you bring the kids, make sure they're wearing bibs or easy to wash garments. Because there's no way they're not heaping that barbecue sauce on their clothing. Order the combo platters. They're a better value than ordering items individually. If you like different kinds of ribs, they have a combo platter for that too. The pulled pork is excellent with a heaping helping of that sauce. The brisket is perfectly cooked and if you add that mouth-watering sauce, it'll be off the chain. As for the ribs, if you are extra hungry, get the full slabs. I guarantee you'll eat the whole thing, with sauce. Sides? Order as many as you think you want to try. They're all good and delicious. My favorites are the Sweet Potato Soufflé and the Cornbread Soufflé. The Cole Slaw comes in a close second. I always get the Hush puppies too.... And yes, I dropped a glob of sauce on my shorts. Again..... Shiver's has an online menu here: shiversbbq.com

Best BBQ. No other BBQ place compares. Everything I've tasted and eaten here is damn good.

I am not a meat eater and still enjoyed this place very much. Corn soufflé, baked beans, mushrooms. My family had brisket, full rack, fried corn, etc.... All very good. The place is not fancy but service was good and so was the food. Will come back.

Stopped in for lunch after visiting the Coral Castle. The menu it pretty extensive and my head was at either a pulled pork or brisket sandwich. Asking the waitress which way to go she said hands down with the brisket and so it came. The side of fries was about as average as you can possible get, the hushpuppies where good, and I must say the brisket sandwich itself was probably the best I ever had. Oh, how I wish this place was closer on my travels to sample other things on the menu!

So after hearing all the hype surrounding Shiver's BBQ for years now, I finally made it AAAAALLLL the way down to Homestead to experience this place with a buddy of mine who lives in the area. Overall, Shiver's doesn't strike me as being much different than Shorty's BBQ in South Miami; Similar style building exterior, same picnic bench seating inside, similar menu and flavored tea, etc. etc. I had the BBQ ribs/chicken platter which came with a 1/2 rack of ribs that were really excellent; Sauce slathered on thick and meat falling from the bone. It also came with a large chicken breast, leg and 2 sides. I chose the cornbread soufflé which was incredible, and their cole slaw which was just above average IMO. Service was just OK on this night. Once we placed our orders, it took nearly 40 minutes for our food to arrive, the waitress explained that their kitchen got backed up and was running very far behind on this Sunday night and they were still catching up. Also, when our meals were delivered I was ready for a refill of my soft drink right away, though it took me a few minutes before I could flag our server down. In all an OK meal, but I don't know if I'd pass up Shorty's in order to drive another 30 minutes south to Shiver's. Both these BBQ joints are much the same IMO, and on this night the long wait for the food and the less than stellar service made it even less likely that I'll make the haul down here just to experience this place again. We each ordered a platter and a soft drink, my friend also ordered the banana crème dessert, total came to about $25 each including tip.

Hunger strikes during our Homestead/Redlands tour, and Yelp directs us to Shiver's BBQ. Even after downing a smoothie from Robert is Here, we still had room to chow down on the great meats. I like slathering sauce on my meat, so I was very pleased that their original was really good. Sweet but not too sweet. Tangy but not too tangy. Thick but not too thick. Great topping to the tender meat. The only thing I'm not fond of here is the community cafeteria style tables. Try not to be awkward and listen in on your neighbor's conversations or bump elbows with them. Luckily for us, though, it turned out to be a good thing. We met a very friendly couple, who we ended up talking to throughout our entire meal. So I suppose it's really how you handle the community tables.

Shivers is in the middle of no where but so worth the drive! I walked into the restaurant and immediately knew I was about to eat authentic bbq. There were no single family tables but long picnic tables filling the room. Each table was fitted with a paper towel holder and condiments. The menu was standard- brisket, pulled pork, chicken. Their sides menu had everything a bbq place could possibly offer. I went for the pulled chicken sandwich, barbecue beans and green beans. The sandwich was pulled perfectly with manageable chunks and the sauce was sweet like I like it. The barbecue beans weren't my thing- I think I tasted mustard in them. However the green beans were delicious! I ravished them in 10 seconds flat. If you are within 30 minutes of homestead go to Shivers!

Good meat, sides weren't good and service was a little slow. Order the baby back ribs, and brisket. Fall off the bone goodness. Collar greens, sweet potato soufflé and jalapeño cornbread weren't good. Key lime pie was just ok.

Us pros all know what really draws you to the BBQ yard. Them sides. Let's get real: most BBQ meat outside the Bible Belt is all the same. Occasionally you might find a place with ribs that hit the spot, or smoked chicken that will get you by until you make it back to whatever fly over state you're from for the real deal. But if a place has great sides, it's golden. Now, I haven't tried all of them, but their menu is *extensive.* I've been here four times now, and just now feel seasoned enough (you like that?) to do an actual review. ***Sweet potato soufflé: Highly recommend. It is super sweet, though. **Cornbread soufflé: Recommend. Again, super sweet. ***Collard greens: Highly recommend. These are the real deal. ***Deep fried corn: You won't know you needed this in your life until you shut up and put it in your face hole. ***Corn nuggets: Ditto. ***Coleslaw: Ridic. Try it even if you don't like coleslaw. Surprisingly mild. Get it and put it ON your pulled pork or brisket sammie for a novel experience. Best meat by far I had here thus, the spare ribs. But those dino (beef) ribs aren't far off. Only thing I didn't like really was the pulled chicken. It was like... clumpy? Instead of stringy. It felt wrong somehow, though I couldn't tell you precisely what I didn't like about it. The flavor was off too. I still like Pride and Joy more for their hushpups and Chimay on draft.

Came here on a Sunday 1:30pm with a party of 4. My first time here but not my parents. They raved on how they loved this place but it was a while back. Two ladies greeted us right as we walked in. It was packed but we got seated right away. The inside of the restaurant is literally designed as a camping log cabin banquet hall kind of deal. It had old road signs and funny quotes on the walls. There are 5 long wooden tables where you eat. The design is certainly meant to share the table with other guests. The menu was pretty diverse. You can do a couple mix and match with rib trio, or different platters. We got our drinks right away but we didn't get our food till 30 min later at 2pm. We ordered the corn nuggets, BBQ ribs, coleslaw, pulled pork and smoked chicken combo, jalapeño cheese grits, cheesy casserole, beef brisket and caramel chocolate fudge pie. Now, the verdict on food - man it was all warm. Not hot, warm. I don't know but for 30 min wait on food I expect it to be hot and good. I was so disappointed everything was warm , the nuggets, the chicken, the brisket, everything. Everything was dry too T_T But they had a bunch of sauces. The portions were in my opinion, pretty small for the prices of upwards $12.99 . Plus we couldn't tell which sides were which since they all looked the same. When we asked the waitress who was so nice God bless her, I don't think she was 100% sure she could tell which side was which. The only thing caramel about the caramel chocolate fudge pie was the caramel drizzle but it was probably one of the best dessert I've ever had! I really don't think the price for $4.99 was worth the size though. It was a one person slice. The waitresses were the nicest ladies ever with great service. I know this review sounds like a 1 or 2 with such negative first time experience but I gave it a 3 only because I felt like their poor quality probably was due to a super packed house with lots of families and maybe a backed up kitchen. I personally had way better BBQ places with better portions and prices like Sunny's in Sebring or Community bbq in Georgia. But, I'll make a fair judgment after a secund try if I happen to be in this area again. If there's anything that tasted good to take from my review, it's the ribs and caramel chocolate pie. I'm sorry I didn't provide a lot of pictures! I ate before I realized I didn't take pictures of the main food!

So far this is the best BBQ i have had in Miami! The only thing that falls short is the brisket. It is very thinly cut and not great, but the ribs, chicken and pulled pork is so far the best i have had in Miami. The sides including the Sweet Potato Souffle are ridiculously good! I've gone three times and I am having them cater my engagement party! Totally lives up to the hype.

We came in around 12:30ish on a sunday and of course it was packed. I love the interior design of the place, makes u think of the southern with John Deere machinery everywhere. The place is not that big with picnic table seating style. Don't be shy sitting next to a stranger. Anyway we ordered the fried Mac and cheese and that is just out of this world. I never had anything like it. The crust is fried and crunchy and inside, you guessed it Mac and cheese. Nice and hot!! I ordered the quarter white chicken with fries and cornbread souffle. The hubby got the brisket sandwich with Cole slaw and beans. We also got a side of hush puppies. Chicken tasted great, not BBQ like but it's good. Fries tasted like fries, the cornbread souffle was not bad. It's soft and moist with actual corn in it. The Cole slaw was pretty good, it's very finely shredded. Beans were not that bad either, hush puppies were good. They are the size of quail eggs. Food came out quick, our waitress was attentive, glad I was able to try this place.

Owe all you yelpers who yelped about shivers bbq. Was looking for a place to eat after visiting monkey jungle and saw shivers come up on near by restaurants. Decided to take a try and boy was everyone in my party satisfied. We started off with the fried okra, fried pickles, and fried Mac n cheese. All very good but the okra was my favorite. I would just order that next time. Then for our meals we had the brisket sandwich which I only ordered to try. I saw reviews that it sucked so I just wanted to try for myself. Confirmed...brisket sucks. Stay away from the brisket. But listen I still give this place 5 stars. The beef short ribs are incredible. Took an extra order home. The baby back ribs are insane, falling off the bone practically. The sweet bbq sauce is just right to make me sweat a tiny bit. For sides had the cornbread casserole, coleslaw, cheesy hash browns, and sweet fries. First 2 of 4 my fav of the sides. Service was great. Place is a true bbq spot that u can count on. Glad I live 1hr 25 min away from this place. But if u r planning a day at monkey jungle worth a stop at shivers.

I'm not a huge BBQ person but whenever I have the craving this is the place to go! My uncle left Homestead after Hurricane Andrew and came back for the first time this July 4th. His first stop was Shivers! He said it was just as he remembered it 25 years ago.

I was told this was the best BBQ place in The South Florida Region and although this claim may have been a little exaggerated, it was a very well made all American food. We had the Baby BBQ ribs and beef combo, with the fried okra and fried mushrooms. I am not a huge fan of Southern food, I prefer cleaner food, and I may be a tad tough on this rating because of that, but I must say I really enjoyed eating the Fried mushrooms. The staff was friendly and helpful.

I agree that Shiver's is pretty good for S Florida. But that's setting the bar rather low. If you're from one of those Southern states with BBQ in your blood, or if you've been there and tasted some awesome meat, then don't get too excited on your drive here. It will make you miss home worse. Their ribs are usually delicious, but their brisket tends to be over dry. Wings and sausages are good addition. For sides, as others have recommended, the corn souffle is a fluffy indulgence. Sweet potato souffle and fries are good too. The cheesy hash brown is a disappointment: melted cheese on very white-looking, barely cooked shoestrings.

Best f'n bbq in town. I'm still licking my fingers. Short rib-winner, both soufflés - winner, pulled pork- winner. Final say, we have a winner here ladies and gentlemen.

Like many of the previous Yelpers have said, this place is way out in the middle of nowhere, but the food is worth the drive! The fried pickle spears are delicious! We will definitely be back for those. The chicken and pulled pork sandwich were also great. Huge servings- so come with an empty stomach!

My mom and I were looking for a good lunch in Homestead after leaving our favorite place, Knaus Berry, for Amish treats and milkshakes. What can I say... We were being gluttonous! I have trouble finding good BBQ anywhere in south FL- there aren't too many choices. This place was great! We walked in, and noticed their huge communal wooden tables. The friendly lady greeted us, and told us to sit where ever we'd like. Our waitress promptly took our drink orders, and gave us an extra minute to decide on meats and sides. I had the half rack of baby backs. Sides: collard greens (way too seasoned, and had so much garlic it put garlic bread to shame), corn souffle: best thing ever. I wanted a tray of it! The ribs were tender and very delicious and smokey. The sauces were a regular/sweet type of sauce, which is already on the table with ketchup and buffalo sauce too! They bring out two additional sauces with the food, which are quite yummy as well. The bread that comes with the dish looks good, but is kind of sad since it's cold and just not good. Come on, people! I'd definitely return every time I'm in the area and need a BBQ fix. It's a great place!

I really hate to give this place a low rating given how so many people seem to like it. We stopped in on a week night (7:30 pm) for dinner--solely based on the reviews. I tried the rib & chicken combo with sides of beans and hash brown casserole, and my wife had a pulled pork sandwich with a side of fries. Well, I can appreciate the varying tastes of BBQ, but one true expectation is that the food be hot when delivered, and that your order is presented in a timely manner. Our experience fell short on both fronts--and add in the "taste difference we prefer" I don't think we'd eat there again. On an upside, the beer was cold!

This place has been there, seems like, for ever but this was our first time there. Open daily 11 am to 9 pm, they stay pretty busy. The service was good but the food we had was just OK. I had the Beef Brisket Sandwich with 2 sides $ 8.99.. Cold slaw and French fries. The sandwich lacked enough meat , was pretty tasteless and almost cold. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich ( $ 7.59 ) and it was the same. Hardly any smoke flavor at all. I tasted a friends pork rib and, although tender, did not have much flavor. No hurry to go back.

I found this place on yelp when I was in homestead and......... Literally the best BBQ I've ever had. I really wish I lived closer because it would be a once a week thing instead of a once a month thing. Can't recommend this place enough

I had been eyeing this place for a while and decided to order take out. I'm almost positive the food would have been better if I had dined in. I ordered the brisket and although tasty it was missing something.. The cornbread soufflé was awesome.. The corn cob delicious! My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was ok as there was no bbq sauce and it was dry. The fries were soggy due to being take out. Will try to dine in next time

Seriously! There is no question or doubt in my mind that this is not the best BBQ in South Florida. We drive from Hollywood down south to eat here. The meat is delicious. The staff is friendly and the banana pudding is awesome. Whether eating all alone or with a crowd there is always someone nice to talk to. It's a staple down south and we understand why. Shivers, we love you!

Will it be sacrilege to say that Shivers has set the new benchmark for BBQ in Miami? Although not quite in Miami (they are WAY the hell down south, much of the way to the Keys in Homestead), this place is well worth the drive. I was here on a random Saturday afternoon and even at 2:30pm there was still a 20 minute wait. But boy was it worth it! We had: - Amazing chicken that was moist and delicious (even the breast meat - a frequent failing in BBQ joints) - Tasty baby backs that, although not fall-off-the-bone, were still worth the bit of extra chew - Awesome sweet BBQ sauce (they also had other flavors - look in other reviews for details, but I'm generally set with the one) - Corn and sweet potato souffles that are both out-of-this-WORLD! - Decent pulled pork, but was a bit dry for my taste - BBQ baked beans were good, but not especially noteworthy - My wife did not like the coleslaw (I hate the stuff, so I'm not in a position to judge) What's also impressive is the variety of mains and sides that they offer. It's a significant menu. Long and short of it, I'm definitely a fan and will be making future return schleps way down south. FYI - This would be a 5 star review except that the kitchen was EXCRUCIATINGLY slow to send out our food and we had to wait far longer for it to be brought to us than we should have had to wait.

A friend of ours reccomended this place. I've been a few times and I've never been let down. The sweet potato sufleé is awesome, the briscket, chicken and the sausages are all smoky and tasty. It's a great place to go with the family if you like to get dirty BBQ style. Fully reccomend this place. Authentic!

Yum! If you happen to make it to here on your culinary adventures then I must urge you to order the ribs, fries and corn soufflé- all aforementioned items are on point and finger lickin' good! We also ordered the brisket- while good it paled in comparison to the ribs so try to stay focused. Shivers is a tiny place with only long communal picnic tables to sit at, and it's usually pretty packed so get ready to get friendly and eat some darn good BBQ!

This place can be the best bbq you'll ever have in your life. It is a hit or miss, really. When the baby backs are good, they are fall off the bone and delicious. The BBQ sauce is semi-sweet and tangy. The corn nugget appetizer is delicious, as well as the corn souffle. You really can't go wrong when you catch them on a good day. On a bad day, they are alright. Bad days aren't terrible, but once you catch them on a good day, you'd be disappointed. Make sure you get a "I got stuffed at Shiver's" souvenir shirt!

We ate here recently for the first time. Just happened to be in the area, read the Yelp reviews and had to give it a try. Very good barbeque and sides, in a "roadhouse" atmosphere. Very casual with long trestle tables. Our server was extremely friendly and welcoming. We sampled a number of things - brisket (tender and juicy - not at all fatty - which you may or may not prefer), baby back ribs (at the risk of using a cliche, the meat fell off the bones) and pulled pork (very good). The sides were also terrific - especially the jalapeno grits (outstanding), hush puppies (very good) and a dish whose name I've forgotten, but I believe it was cheese hashed browns (delicious). If you're in the mood for some really good barbeque, give Shiver's a visit.

Best bbq place in town! Honestly. Don't even go to shortys. This place is worth the drive and wait. Amazing customer service, all waitresses have the best southern hospitality! Best pulled pork, collards, beans, soufflé and banana pudding (order he banana pudding because it runs out). Order in bulk for your next party if you don't feel like waiting for a table. Most wait time is about 30-45 minutes. Locals only know about this place and I really don't want to advertise it anymore, because then I'll have to wait longer for a seat, but you must try it at least once. Okay maybe a few times, to try everything on their menu!

The first thing that greets you walking in is the deliciously, subtly intoxicating aroma of smoked beef. You know the good smoky smell, where you notice a subtle scent of sugar under the base of burnt wood. OK, good! The other sweet you notice is that pleasant southern hospitality as you walk through the door. An actual hello and sometimes a rarity here in my loved 305 - a smile. That same pleasant service continued as I sit on the long wood picnic tables checking out the vintage Southern decor - old food posters and the centerpiece cow head at the center of the restaurant wall. On to my food: for starters, they have machine instead of canned sodas, with refills you know? You'll need the constant refreshment to help you cool down from the citrus based, slightly spicy BBQ sauce. The corn on the cob was just as delicious, dripping with butter. Baked beans were an equally delicious morsel with a subtle sneak of sweet foundation. The only thing I'm not a real fan is the thick crinkly fries. Skinny fries next time? In closing, yes, Shivers is very much worth the drive!

Shriver's was a joy from the first bite of beans until I had scoured the last shred of brisket from my plate. This is excellent and legitimate BBQ in South Florida -- a rare thing indeed. We had an absolute feast. The great: - Beef brisket - very flavorful and smoky, great texture, and not fatty. The downside of this was that it was a bit on the dry side. But with the wonderful BBQ sauces that I used extensively, I barely noticed. Beef brisket was particularly good with the pepper BBQ sauce. - The mustard BBQ sauce. It had a mellow sweetness that went well with absolutely everything, but especially the pulled pork. - Beans. Wonderful. They had that just-right degree of sweetness. I've tried to think of when I've had better, but nothing comes to mind. These may well be the best beans I've ever had. - Corn souffle. Crispy outside, corn pieces that seemed to have been roasted first, just really fantastic. - Pulled pork. Not fatty as pulled pork can sometimes be. Felt very fresh. As with the brisket, it was not served with sauce on it, which meant it could be applied to taste. The good: - Baby Back Ribs. Above average, but you can get above average ribs elsewhere. I wouldn't bother ordering them again. - French fries. Fried perfectly, but very clearly pre-made and previously frozen. The average: - Hush puppies. Not special, wouldn't bother ordering them again. Nothing was bad. Can't wait to return.

I went to shivers on May 7th,2015 for the first time I must admit the food was DELICIOUS! I ordered corn on the cob that was pretty good. I got smoked chicken,m ash potatoes with gravy on top and bake beans. The chicken was simmered with flavors . The dessert was awesome . I had the banana pudding and it was the best banana pudding I've ever had in my life . My drive to get here was worth the time . I would drive for an hour to get here again because the service and food was amazing . This place deserves five stars and I hope that they keep up with their food and service .

Some of the best barbecue I have ever had in my life. The ribs and chicken dinner is by far the most out of this world plate you'll have amidst the other American and southern BBQ joints here in South Florida. I've never been disappointed. From stuffed mushrooms and hush puppies appetizers to a bread pudding dessert, this place simply has it all. In all the places I've eaten ribs, and that number is well in the 50+, I can say they're definitely in my top 5. The sauce choices are more than you'll ever need and you'll never walk away dissatisfied or without having to undo a button or two. Well worth the money and the time. If you find yourself down south go and grab a plate. One of the few places I didn't mind not having a drink at to accompany my meal because it would only detract from the food.

What can I add that hasn't already been posted about Shivers? Great family BBQ place, I find the quality to be a little above Shorty's. This is one place you can bring your kids & let'em run around & yell, cause the noise level is already high, & it's like a big sit down indoor picnic. Love the 1/2 smoked chicken, fried okra, corn on the cob.

RACISISM to the FULLEST!!!: I have relatives that came from out of town and I wanted to take them to experience what an American BBQ tasted like. Knowing that Shivers is a "Well Known South Florida Establishment", I chose this place for my relatives to enjoy. Low and Behold when we walked into the restaurant, everyone (restaurant staff and other customers) looked as at strangely. Thinking nothing of it at first, we were told to sit wherever we like. The Waitress hastily came to our table and literally threw our menus and forks in front of us in a very HASTY MANNER. Everyone in our party IMMEDIATELY noticed and felt very UNCOMFORTABLE. The waitress then RUDELY asked us for our drinks, hastily again with a look of ATTITUDE on her face. Feeling EXTREMELY OFFENDED, my girlfriend who is Hispanic went to the Cashier where the Manager was and told her to forget the order and that we will not be eating here anymore. Both myself and my girlfriend told the Manager how disappointed we were in the manner she treated us and that we think it's because it the COLOR OF OUR SKIN. We are a mixed family which included Hispanic's and people from the Small Caribbean Islands that came on Vacation. We are brown in skin color and are of East Indian Descent. We are not African or African America and we also have relatives that have served in the MILITARY who come to this restaurant to eat. The Manager told us that she will then wait on us herself; however we still left the restaurant because our Meal was going to be uncomfortable and the damage was already done. It is EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING to know that such a Florida establishment would have employees treat and greet customers in this Manner. Regardless if that waitress was having a bad day or is RACIST, customers don't deserve to be treated like that. I truly do hope that the owner of this Establishment can do better in the future, especially how their employees greet out of towners and making them feel welcome.

I finally went to Shriver's and let's just say does not get better if you want some good country cookin! The pulled pork sandwich was pure juicy tender pulled pork. All meat all delicious all gone! Good sauces to choose from and a large selection of choices for your two sides. I went with the green beans and cheesy jalapeno grits, both yummy. Topped it with sweet tea and what a treat!

Hands down the best BBQ in south Florida. The servers are so kind... They make you feel like family at this restaurant. The food is great. I had the ribs and they fell off the bone from how tender and juicy they were. The corn soufflé was also amazing... You have to try that! The orders did not take long to come out. The sauces they have on the table were all delicious. Definitely coming back here to try other things!

I have been to this place about 4-5 times since I discovered it earlier this year.. The spare and baby back ribs are always tender and tasty, the chicken is always juicy, and the pulled pork is delicious. They have many sides and appetizers to choose from, but my absolute favorite is the Corn Soufflé. Restaurant is clean and staff is friendly. The only complaint I can think of is one time I went there for dinner at about 7pm and the line was so long it was about 45min to an 1 hour wait. BUT THAT IS A GOOD SIGN!! :) Location is a bit far for most, but well worth the drive if you are craving some Good BBQ.

This is a Florida institution of the BBQ kind. Yes, we will drive 2 hours to eat here! Must tries are: Sweet corn nuggets Onion Rings Beef ribs with cole slaw and sweet potato soufflé Spare ribs with tater tots and baked beans You will not have room for dessert, so take it home! Best key lime pie in south Florida. Enjoy!

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! It is very rare that a meal has ever made me feel primal. And by this I mean, as I bit down into the beef ribs, I felt like what a caveman might have felt when biting down into a brontosaurus, or something like one. The rush of flavor the sauce conjured was equally gratifying and when paired with the coleslaw and cornbread soufflé, I felt almost giddy. I shall return to this wonderful place soon but will do so with reinforcements, there is still much more on their delectable menu to partake.

Wow this was a disappointing visit. I've been here many times before and have always been a big fan but they were definitely off their game the night I visited. For starters i busted on a Saturday night and the place was busy, so we anticipated there would be a wait. What we didn't anticipate was the mess this place was. We order are food and waited at least 10 minutes and I decided to throw in an order of fried green tomatoes. They came out hot and fresh pretty quickly. After finishing those we thought the food would be right out. That was not the case. Our waitress came to the table and told us they were out of chicken. We all changed our orders and figures the food was coming right out. That didn't happen. We waited some more and the waitress came back and told the guys who ordered baby backs they were out of those too. So the wait continued and our waitress came back and said the new batch of chicken was ready and asked if we wanted that. I said yes thinking it would be right out. This time it did come out pretty quickly but the chicken was incredibly dry, and wasn't worth the wait. What really through me off about the whole situation is this a bbq place. I mean all the sides and meats, with the exception of the wings are slow cooked. So it really shouldn't take 45 mins or more to get some food out. Secondly, it was busy when we came in but by the time we are the place had pretty much cleared out so I'm not sure what went wrong. Despite the poor experience I do have to say the server was kind and very apologetic. She explained that it was a stressful night for her and couldn't imagine how frustrating it was for us. She also refilled our drinks and continued to check in on us. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'll be back and will definitely not be taking anyone there. I hope my visit was a fluke and they return to their past practices.

Very good BBQ! Very reasonable prices... Portions are very big. They sell beer but no wine ;(. Felt like I wasn't eating in Miami. Different kinds of bbq sauces... Very tasty food.

In our never ending pursuit of the best BBQ in Dade and Broward County, we decided to "travel" to Shiver's BBQ joint (32 miles from my home!). Yes, we are that crazy about smoked pork material. We got there quickly, were seated right away (they have long communal tables, like Shorty's), and a waitress showed up in a minute. We ordered drinks (beer is very affordable here, great!), and one corn on the cob and one fried corn. Both very good, the fried one was crispy and tasty! Pleasant surprise. Then to baby back ribs and brisket, with mashed potatoes and gravy (good), and corn bread soufflé (which was surprisingly good, recommended). For desert: fried cheese cake with ice cream... a delicious caloric bomb.. heaven! The whole experience was very good, from the wait staff to the food to the beers... Recommended!

This has to be the best BBQ I've ever eaten. The atmosphere feels welcoming, with the long tables for patrons to sit at and eat. The location is very far from the center of the city of Miami, but I always tell people that they must try Shivers, because it's savory.

AWESOME BBQ place! I don't like pork, so I have tried their chicken and their brisket. Chicken has the perfect smoked flavor, their brisket is very tender. We love to order the cornbread souffle and sweet potato souffle, you will not regret it. When you eat in, it's like you are in a big picnic gathering, everyone sits on a long bench. This place does get crowded especially on weekends.

It's hard to find good BBQ in Miami. Technically, it's in Homestead but close enough right? After two happy visits to Shivers I'm happy to say I found my spot from now on. Both my visits were positive ones. The staff is super friendly, the food is great, & the prices are affordable. It reminded me a lot of Smokey Bones which I also love but they are north of Miami. The Food: I tried the pulled pork with the tangy sweet sauce & loved it. I enjoyed the baby backs too, but my baby back heart will forever belong to Flanigans. The pulled chicken was good as were the fries, hush puppies, & corn nuggets. Wasn't a fan of the corn souffle or the mashed potatos. Coke products so big smile there. The Staff: SOOOOO Friendly. Both of my visits we chatted it up with Cindy & Martha for at least 10 minutes. Super nice people. Service from our waitress was great too. After I mentioned how much I enjoyed the corn nuggets I told her the one thing that would just take them to the next level of awesome would be some powdered sugar. She told me she brought it up to someone & they might actually give it a try. Being open to customer feedback is a fantastic trait in food service even if the suggestions don't get applied. Just being receptive is cool as far as I'm concerned. The Ambiance: It's community bench style seating. If it's packed you might end up closer to strangers than you might want but that's just part of the BBQ culture & most people are friendly or keep to themselves anyway. Overall: There's a reason this place has so many positive reviews & why it is the highest reviewed restaurant in Homestead... it simply delivers good BBQ with a smile.

Just ok. No I would not drive 2 hours for it although I do live 2 hours away. Saw the reviews here so I thought I would check it out. I totally dig the relaxed atmosphere and lax seating style of long picnic tables but not very kid friendly if you got toddlers with you. There wasn't a single high chair in the place so I had to eat with my daughter on my lap. I would say the food was good but not great. I expected to smell the bbq and the sight of smokers from the parking lot but I did not, nor could you smell it inside which tells me the food was either reheated or cooked elsewhere and brought in. There weren't any smokers etc on site. The sides: sweet tea was awesome, corn suffle was ok, sweet potato suffle was better, the fried okra was good, the green beans were canned and the hush puppies did not impress at all. The meat: again though flavorful and tender was either not fresh or not cooked on the premises (a la sonny's) or both. They had a choice of about 4 different BBQ sauces but two out of the three in my rib trio were already covered in sauce which defeatS the purpose. I would go again, maybe for lunch if I am in the area but not for actual BBQ, maybe a sandwhich.

Hailing from Northeast US, I'm definitely not a BBQ expert, but Shiver's was a great experience on par with BBQ I've had in North Carolina and other Southern states. Love the casual seat-yourself atmosphere and good service. Waited awhile for our platters but once the ribs and brisket came out, they were devoured in seconds. Love their sauces and sides. Collar greens were ok, but the sweet potato souffle is second to none. Wish I can get it here in NJ!

DELICIOUS BBQ in the cutest little restaurant setting. It is set up as one big dining hall with long picnic-bench style seating (which would work well for large groups). My husband got the Jumbo sized Beef Brisket Platter (comes with 3 oz. more brisket than the regular size) with their highly raved about Cornbread Soufflé and Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. His meal cost $12.59. I got the Half Rack of Ribs and Pulled Pork Combo with their Coleslaw and BBQ Baked Beans. My meal was $15.99. We were both more than satisfied and in love with our meals! My husband's brisket was extremely tender and well-flavored and the Cornbread Soufflé was sweet, buttery, and so soft. My Pulled Pork was also very tender and well-flavored. My Ribs however, took the cake when it came to my meal- They were literally Fall. Off. The. Bone. I could barely pick them up and get them to my mouth without them sliding off the bone into the most perfect strips of goodness. SO GOOD. Their different BBQ sauces were also all delicious. The original Shiver's sauce, however, was my favorite. Next time we are in Miami, this will definitely be a spot we come to eat at. It's only 30 minutes from the heart of the city and well worth the drive.

Been to Shivers on several occasions but today may have been one of my favorites. This place can be tricky sometimes and I can say that I have had as low as a 3 star experience all the way to the 5 star experience I had today. For starters, our waitress, who's name I regret not getting, gave my husband and I some of the best service we have had in a long time ANYWHERE, not just here. She was very attentive and prompt with the service. The food today was on point. We ordered fried okra and hot wings for appetizers. Both were fresh and perfectly cooked. The hot wings are the whole wing, not just the tips. The sauce is spicy without lighting your mouth on fire. For entrees, my husband ordered the Short Ribs with the corn bread soufflé and hush puppies; I ordered the half rack of baby back ribs with bbq baked beans and corn bread soufflé. The meats were fall-of-the-bone tender and come served with a good amount of sauce already on them, which I like. They also bring several types of sauces to the table for you to try. The corn bread soufflé was moist and had just the right touch of sweetness. The hush puppies are not my thing but its because I'm just not a fan of hush puppies in general. These are nice and crunchy on the outside with a soft center. Not greasy or stale. The bbq baked beans were perfect; just the right balance of smoky and sweet. For drinks, my husband had the fountain coca cola and I had the sweet tea, which had the perfect amount of sweetness for me. We were too full to even think about dessert but have had their peach cobbler before and it is pretty darn good. See pics for actual pictures of our meal today. Portions are generous!

Quite a trip for us to go to Shiver's, but it's worth the drive. Good BBQ, service and prices. Don't get down here much but when we do we are glad we did. Always order some extras to take home.

I've never been here before, and I decided to take my bf for his birthday because he really likes bbq. This place did not disappoint. From the moment you walk in the delicious bbq smell hits you. I had read that they had communal tables and I was little worried about it but they are huge. We sat comfortably without being squeezed in between parties. For starters we got Fried Mac N Cheese. It wasn't what we were picturing, it was like nuggets with mac n' cheese stuffing. They were delicious. We got a full slab of baby back ribs to share and that has got to be the best bbq ribs I've had in a long, long time. With it we could order two sides. We got sweet potato soufflé and hush puppies. The hush puppies were really the less special part of the meal. But that sweet potato soufflé was OMG let me tell you. We also got key lime pie to go. All in all one of the best meals I've had in Homestead.

Warning warning! Drove all the way down there from Miami springs cz we wanted some good bbq only to find out that it's was closed for vacation! Ummmm it would be nice if they would post it on the website or something what a waste of a trip. Sonny's to the rescue!

This was waaaaay better than I expected. I'm not a huge fan of smoked meats and their menu clearly states smoked. However. We had some really good BBQ! We went in on a Sunday and the place was packed. So we had a short wait. The tables are all communal, so you'll be sitting close enough to your neighbor to be able to pick at their food. We ordered a full rack of baby backs and a pulled pork Sammie. Each comes with 2 sides, so we were able to sample 4 in total. The ribs were delicious and fall off the bone tender. The pulled pork was good especially with their sweet BBQ sauce. It's served on a hamburger roll. The Fries were ok. Typical crinkle cut variety. The coleslaw was creamy and on the sweet side. Just how I like it. The cheesy hash browns were really good too. The standout among all the sides was the cornbread soufflé. Abso-freakin'-lutely delicious! Our server was great. Friendly and attentive while still running back and forth managing the crowds! We will definitely be back. I don't know when, since it's so freakin' far, but we will!

Many years ago I'd come here and they had that open pit firehouse so meat had that BBQ taste. You could smell the aroma for several blocks. The last time I went was about 5 years ago, and guess what? NO BBQ Aroma, NO open pit BBQ!! The meat did no longer have that true BBQ taste!!! I just drove by yesterday and could not smell that BBQ aroma anymore, so I know they're still not cooking REAL BBQ!! They say they are, but where is that true BBQ aroma?? Bring back the Shivers from 25 years ago, and I'll start going back there!!!

Best bbq in south Florida in my opinion. The bbq is closer to a Carolina style but you can add Kansas City style sauces if you want. I love this place because it reminds me of bbq I had back home in Virginia. My tip? Try the pulled pork sandwich.

Wow. Just amazing food! We really enjoyed the ribs! My kid said it was the best BBQ ever.

  • Sean M.

I'm somewhat disappointed with Shivers, I also feel somewhat mislead. You may be wondering why I say mislead? Not because of the stellar reviews but because SoFloridians are generally ignorant of southern BBQ so you cannot expect any better per say. The minute I pulled up in the parking lot I expected to be graced by the aroma of smoked meat, but the aroma was nowhere to be found. That alone is a sin against the BBQ Gods and was my first warning. But I said let me give this place a chance even though one of the three Divine BBQ Laws had not been fulfilled. When I sat down at one of the many large communal benches I felt a glimpse of hope as the one of my Divine BBQ Laws was fulfilled! You may be wondering which of the laws I speak ? Its the second Divine BBQ Law that requires the sight of morbidly obese people munching away, or working in said establishment. I could see morbidly obese people sporadically seated voraciously munching away with glee bit.ly/14iIS8K bit.ly/14iIXcg . I am not sure about the 3rd Divine BBQ Law as I could not ascertain if southerners owned said establishment. The menu was populated with many of the traditional southern BBQ items coupled with some traditional South Florida masterpieces like key lime pie. After perusing the menu for a minute or two I chose the smoked 1/2 chicken ($9.29) bit.ly/14iKcs8 , corn bread souffle ($2.49) and a lemonade ($2.39. My server somehow forgot to give me utensils, so after I received my order I sat there looking at all of the servers with this "what planet are you from look". Finally another server noticed me, she apologized and fetched me utensils. My server did not make eye contact nor look in my direction nor speak to me after she took my order for the whole duration of my meal. SERVICE RATING 2.0 STARS **note** the people who work here generally seem very friendly. The smoked chicken was missing the smoked flavor, it was no where to be found it was MIA. The meat did not fall off of the bone as typical BBQ meats do, I had to wrestle with some of the meat. The chicken was in appearance & flavor no different than a rotisserie chicken. But once I doused the chicken with the bbq sauce & mustard sauce it was quite tasty. RATING 3.0 STARS The cornbread souffle was exactly as Katrina G. had stated. It was Soft flavorful sweet and delicious, my tongue was in a temporal heaven with each bite. RATING 4.5 STARS. The lemonade was very disappointing. I could immediately tell from the taste that the lemonade was made from a commercial mix and not in house made. The lemonade was definitely not sweetened with sugar, it was either sweetened with aspartame or HFCS (high fructose corn syrup). After the first taste I didn't touch it again. RATING 0.0 STARS. Would I come back, if in the area sure, but I would not go out of my way to come here.

Tasty! Stopped in for a quick bite so we split the pig trio. Pulled pork was good but needed a little sauce. Their homemade sauces were delicious. The sausage was perfection and the ribs were amazing. The meal came with two sides (which I thought was a good deal compared to typical Miami prices) and there were many options to chose from. Service was great as well.

Really tasty ribs. Tender and saucy, cooked to perfection. You must try the baby back ribs and the beef ribs. Will be back for sure!

Fabulous food!! Thank you Yelpers for the glowing reviews. Avoided the brisket due to the comments. My husband had the baby backs, WOW, they were great. He liked the coleslaw, I read a few reviewers didn't care for it, but he liked it and is usually picky with his slaw. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, it comes without sauce so you can try their variety of sauces. It was gigantic, so half is going home with us Also ordered the caramel fudge pie & coconut cream to go, will comment on those later. By the time we left, the line outside was pretty long which should tell you something.

  • G T.

Maybe we got them on an off day but the baby backs were DRY, DRY, DRY. The beef brisket was moist and well smoked. The collard greens were ok and the cornbread souffle was really good. We shared a plate since it was enough meat to feed two and they were nice enough to provide free corn nougats since we waiting about 15 minutes for our food so not sure what happened. They do offer three types of BBQ sauce so more options are always appreciated. Service was fine so we are going to chuck it up to being a fluke that the baby backs were really dry. You'll have better luck.

maybe it's me but this place seems to be getting blah. the brisket i have had lately has gone from amazing to boring on my last few visits. it's not terrible but at one time this place was miles ahead of shorty's and it's no longer so.

Great service, laid back atmosphere, delicious food and just feels like you're outside of Miami. The chicken wings are amazing and so is their bbq sauce. The ribs, hashbrown casserole was also very good. Definitely better than Shortys

The great: chicken, and several sides (jalapeño cheesy grits, cornbread soufflé, sweet potato soufflé), the pepper-based sauce, overall portion sizes. The good: brisket, baby back ribs, baked beans, all the other sauces. Communal seating, fine service. Nothing to complain about, would definitely return here.

There are few things in life that I claim to be an expert on, but BBQ is one of those things. This is pretty darn good BBQ. It's not perfect, but taken as a totality, it is a very satisfying meal at a very reasonable price. I had the brisket sandwich. The meat itself was good, but not amazing. A little bit on the dry side for my tastes. I like that they have a mustard sauce. It was not an exceptional sauce, but I'm happy it was on the table. The sides we had were all quite good. I had cheese & jalepeno grits, cheesy hash brown casserole, cornbread soufflé, and mashed potatoes and gravy. I felt the grits and soufflé were exceptional. Very, very good. The others were above average. Prices are very reasonable. It was about $25 for 2 meals after tip. I hate communal seating and this place has it, but oh well. We would come back if in the area.

Wait...did I die and go to bbq heaven?! Just when I thought that there were no decent barbecue restaurants left in Miami I find this place on Yelp and after reading a couple of reviews we decide to give it a try. The service was EXCELLENT and the food TO DIE FOR!!! Here's what we ordered: Baby Back/Pulled Pork Combo - enough for 2 to share. Baby Back ribs were fall off the bone perfection. Pulled pork was delicious!!! Corn on the Cob - Husband said, "Best corn on the cob I've ever had!" Cornbread soufflé - I'd drive all the way there just for one bite! A MUST!!! Can't wait to go back!

We ate here on our way back from Key West, maybe we were deprived from good food in KW, but this food hit the spot!!! Follow every Yelpers advice and be sure to order the corn bread souffle!!! Don't be too excited for the hush puppies or deep fried mac and cheese, our waitress said those aren't made there and they come frozen. Beef brisket was AMAZING. Baby back ribs also AMAZING!!!! Now I just have to have a reason to come back to Homestead FL! Hmmm?

I'd have to say this is the best barbeque in South Florida! It's a little hole in the wall, but the food is out of this world. The pulled pork and ribs were excellent. The sides were very authentic and filling. What I mean by "authentic" it's like your grandmother made them! They have 4 or 5 different types of BBQ sauces that you can choose from and a few local beers on tap. I will definitely be returning!

    (5)
  • Sara E.

This is a perfect southern BBQ place to chow down on some baby back ribs! The atmosphere and the picnic table set up allows you to feel comfortable eating with your hands! The cheese fries topped with one of there house made BBQ sauces is an example of how heaven is a place on earth. If you are looking for a hot spot to chow down some corn bead, beef, and beans, this is the place to go.

I love Shiver's. It is one of the best BBQ places in South Florida, and they are located in Homestead. If you truly love BBQ, it is worth the drive. I travel there, not often, but when in Homestead, that is where you'll find me. Now, who said BBQ joints needed to be decrepit and derelict? Everything at Shiver's is pretty outstanding. This restaurant is clean and well lit, adorned with framed aphorisms and irreverent phrases through out, even in the washroom, which by the way is the cleanest I have ever seen at any BBQ joint. Even the hot water works. The dinning room sports long glossy picnic tables, and the food comes out from a tiki style kitchen. The room is ample yet nothing around you would go unnoticed. If you are a glutton, like I hopelessly am, you will find Shiver's to be above the competition. Let's see, a plate of spare ribs and BBQ sauce sounds like a good deal. But a plate of spare ribs and four BBQ sauces sounds *awesome-er*. Yes, one honey based, one smokey, one spicy and the regular BBQ sauce that comes on the baby back ribs. Variety is the spice of life, as they say. The ribs are great. They are not very smokey but you can taste the smoke. They are soft and well seasoned. The chicken is also very good. I am such a BBQ enthusiast (which sounds better than BBQ whore) that I get one order of ribs and one order of chicken, and end up with leftovers and four sides to play with. Which is the next topic, the sides. The sides are delicious. Starting with the corn souffle, it is like a corn bread on a cup, and it is caramelized at the bottom and very sweet. My favorite side. Then the sweet potato mashed, with sugar sprinkled on top. Then BBQ beans, collard greens, black eyed peas, it is all very delicious. Another thing I like at Shiver's is that they serve beer in pitchers. If we ignore the food, which is a deadly sin, being able to share pitchers of beer makes Shiver's a great place to be with the whole family or a bunch friends. Even if your friends don't want to eat BBQ ribs, there is brisket, catfish on demand, sandwiches, and my next item to try: the pulled pork sandwich. I may have to try it sometime since I see a lot of people ordering it. To finish off, you could have dessert, which are also very good. I don't have a favorite, but they are good. That's, of course, if you have any space left, which you probably won't. So to Shiver's I dedicate the next great aphorism yet to be hung on their walls: Once you go Shiver's, you never go back. Get my riff?

  • Alex R.

Without a doubt the best BBQ in Miami. This is one of those places that looks average, the utensils are all beat to hell, and the decor is lacking. When you walk in though, you feel the energy of the people eating along the picnic tables and you can tell this is something different. You see families truly enjoying great food. Shivers doesn't need the hipster glass bottles, it doesn't need fancy names, it doesn't have an exhaustive wine list, it doesn't even need a great location. None of that matters when you serve great food. A lot of restaurants nowadays tend to ignore that simple fact and that's a shame. If you've never been, it's definitely worth the drive.

We stumbled upon this spot after a long day driving and were amazed at how good it was! WICKED good!! Make sure you order some corn souffle and collard greens! We finished up with a piece of key lime pie and it was tangy good with just the right amount of sweetness. The place was packed, the waitstaff was excellent, the atmosphere was comfortable and fun. We will definitely be going back and in the meantime are recommending it to everyone we know!

Oh my !!!! This place is delicious. The service is great and the staff is very polite. I went on a Sunday around 4pm and it wasn't packed at all. We sat right away. I had the baby back rib which were absolutely amazing w/ side of cole slaw and bbq beans both items were very good. My husband had the cheese casserole and it was delicious as well. We really enjoyed our meal and we're happy to have gone. We can't wait to go back or order to pickup. Recommend this place to any one is a fan of bbq. Can't wait to try more items in their menu.

I came here w/ my family for father's day. We chose to eat in. Big mistake on such a busy day. The dining room was packed and I think there was a Heat game going on--so the take-out department was slammed as well. That said, our orders took longer than most and when it came out, my hubby didn't get his correct order. I think he ordered chicken and ribs but got a full slab of ribs instead. The server didn't really offer a solution/discount/free dessert...nothing. she just kinda was like "oh well" and kept it moving. It's not like she really had time to correct the problem; the poor girl was just "balls to the wall" busy. MEH. We were forgiving because it was slammed AND we were starving, so waiting another half hour wasn't an option for us. Lesson learned, we know not to dine in for next time. We didn't really care for the communal seating anyways. The food however, was excellent. I loved the cornbread souffle, corn on the cob, coleslaw.... and I literally wanted to try almost every carb laden side dish they had to offer. i also loved that they had local artisan beers for sale as well. that was cool. I ordered a coconut ale with my din. The following week for my hubby's Bday, I ordered take-out from Shivers. The lady that took my order was attentive and sweet. I think I paid $30 for two whole smoked chickens and a few sides. Tons of food, we had left overs for days Final note: Excellent food, great portions. If you are picky about service/seating/atmosphere GO THE TAKE-OUT route.

I always rave about this place to everyone who will listen. It's so freaking good! They make the most amazing corn bread soufflé and they also make jalapeño cheddar grits which are perfect. Seriously though... Check this place out. You won't be disappointed.

Finger licking good! Felt like I was eating my moms home cooking. The meat melted of the ribs. This neighborhood gem!

Wasn't too impressed honestly. I didn't like the seating arrangements as there are no chairs - all seating is picnic style benches and not very comfortable. The beer is served in what look like kiddy cup versions of beer mugs and are only about 6 or 8 ounces - so if you order a beer order something in the can or bottle to get your money's worth. Onto the food - it was ok. The house BBQ sauce didn't leave much of an impression on me, however their brisket did. The brisket was tender and charred on the outside, perfect but the sauce was terrible. Service gets a 2/5 stars. It wasn't very busy but our server seemed to be having a bad night and it showed in her service.

I come all the way from the Keys to eat here. GREAT, authentic BBQ food, NOT a make-believe chain! And make sure Barbie is your waitress, she is terrific!

  • George H.

What a find! The food was out of this world! I had the baby back/pulled pork combo and all I kept saying was "Holy crap this is good!" Our waitress Barbie was very attentive, cheery and made us feel right at home. I can't wait to go back!

If you're in Homestead and you want BBQ, this is probably wher you will end up. My only comparison is Shorty's. Shorty's would rank consistantly better.

Amazing ribs, hush puppies and corn bread souffle! The place is small and has 3 long tables so you sit with other people, but the food is amazing.

Shiver's BBQ is your typical hole in the wall style restaurant. And in these places, you'll find THE BEST foods money can buy. When you enter this establishment, the first thing you notice are the tables (very unique but perfect for a BBQ restaurant), combine with the lighting, wall decorations and customer service and you got a place that is welcoming and relaxing. As for the food, you can't go wrong with their menu, everything is cooked, smoked, or slow roasted to perfection. Their ribs, brisket, and pull pork all seem to fall off the bone when you pick it up. And their chicken (like their meats) are moist and flavorful. One words of caution, timing is everything. I say that because of Sundays this place IS PACKED. I guess after church everyone converges to Shivers.

I've had BBQ at joints all over the USA from Utah to Tennessee and Shivers is legit! It's so good I buy my Thanksgiving day sides from here so my whole family can enjoy. Their ribs are superb and the brisket is oh so tasty! I really enjoy the corn casserole! It is so sweet and delicious! It's the perfect contrasts to the tangy BBQ sauce on a rib or chicken! Whenever I visit Shivers I hold nothing back ! It's my carb load day because I'm digging in to the toast, corn, fries, baked beans and corn bread! Come with an appetite so you can try it all. You won't be disappointed ! You may experience a small wait on the weekends but I've never waited more than 15 minutes. Totally worth the wait. I will never eat at Shortys again!

I'm from California and I must say that this place is a great value for their nom noms. Just a randomly place my traveling buddies and I decided to try on our way back from Key West. Saw some good reviews and decided to stop in. I had the chicken tenders, but my buddies got their trio. I felt my tenders were nicely done! Most places will batter the crap out of this, but I got more meat here than their batter which is a huge plus for me and my love for them tenders. My roommates runs weren't "fall-off-the-bone" but I tried a piece and it was pretty darn good. I loved all the BBQ sauces they had too. Some didn't work for me, like their vinegar based one, but some were damn good, like that honey BBQ one. Those corn soufflés are something!!! Sweet potatoes were alright, but my highlight was that corn one. Definitely a try if you love, like, respect, or can tolerate corn! Great service! They probably didn't see too many Asians before. Haha. But they were some nice folks up in there. A great stop for tourist and it seems like a great local joint.

The BEST BBQ in South Florida, hands down. Finally! A real BBQ place that I don't mind driving an hour to get to. The sweet potato casserole is DIVINE. I could probably eat the entire casserole in one sitting. The sauces are perfect. And the service is the type you'll never get anywhere else!

  • Larry L.

This place is wonderful. Full of character, and some of the best BBQ I've had. The collards and coleslaw were great. The cornbread soufflé was not as good - very lukewarm and too sweet for me. But the key lime pie more than made up for it - amazing.

Not sure why the such high reviews, came here some years ago and didn't think much of it (had the ribs) and decided to give it another shot so I had the brisket this time... Still not impressed I've had better barbecue. Have it 3 starts because of the service is very good but the food didn't quite do it.

It's very, very hard to impress a vegetarian at a barbecue place. Probably because most of these places don't care about us as their clientele. We've only eaten from here once, and we took the food to go. The place itself is pretty cute. Long, communal tables. Looked like a fun place. We ordered a ton of food, mostly sides for me, including: fried mac n cheese, corn nuggets, corn on the cob, coleslaw, green beans, sweet potato souffle. I engorged myself and it was pretty decent. My husband didn't seem too impressed with his food, though I forget what he ordered (quite possibly the pulled pork). What would make this place better? At least a veggie burger, for starters. Most places don't seem to understand that vegetarians/vegans would love to go eat at their establishments and recommend it to others if they could only find some form of protein to eat. It's been a little while since I've been there, but I don't believe the menu has changed. Maybe someday they'll throw us a (veggie) bone.

I've lived in Miami for over 12 years and I finally decided to try Shivers BBQ. I don't know why I waited for so long. Don't let the appearance or location fool you. They have been in business for over 60 years! The brisket sandwich was delicious and the cornbread soufflé was 2nd to none.

It's finger licken good !! ! We went there after a trip in to the Evergles National Park , it is right on Route 1. I had the pull apart pork platter with two sides. There is only enough room for 79 people. We were there at 3pm and it wall almost full, there is plenty of room to park in front and the prices are very good too.

This is my favorite BBQ place in the country, they have such variety that no matter what type of BBQ I am in the mood for they have it! Every time I am in the area I have to go here. If you go, be sure to try all the sauces and find your favorite!

The most amazing baby back ribs I have ever eaten! We had to wait for 45 minutes to be seated, there was a baby crying, falling plates and trays. And I did not mind. Reason- the food. I cannot emphasize enough how much I loved what I ate!

I'm fat now because if this place. Rib trio with cornbread soufflé. Beer selection could be better. Food took 26 minutes to arrive. But once the dinner came, I was so happy. So much delicious meat on my plate I didn't know where to start. Beef and baby back ribs and chicken. Nothing was dried out or over cooked. Be prepared to drink water to get the huge serving down in one sitting. When comfort food is this good and in this amount your going to be walking away with a happy tummy ache. Ambiance was relaxing, country style seating with wait staff that have probably worked their for over a decade or so. I made my girlfriends family happy with american food (they are swedish) after taking them here on a yelp recommendation.

This is such an adorable, family restaurant! I loved the rustic atmosphere, with 5 huge tables in which you seat yourself (cafeteria style) and walls that were covered in antique country signs. I had heard about the delicious food from my coworkers and I have to say, I was not let down. I loved the chicken, the homemade BBQ sauces, and cornbread souffle. You can tell their food is homemade, which is what makes it so good. The service was also fabulous and our waitress was very attentive. I really enjoyed the experience!

Absolutely wonderful BBQ! I come from the home of Sonny's BBQ. So I am tough on BBQ joints. Shiver's is great. I had the beef brisket sandwich with fries and black eyed peas. The brisket was tender and delicious. The black eyed peas were great as well. I will definitely come back the next time I am in Homestead.

One of the best barbecue places I've eaten! It's a great place to bring tha family to and actually sit, converse, and eat. Love the picnic style benches they have and you must try the cornfritters!

  • Michael C.

Since there is really not a barbeque culture in Florida, Shivers is OK. You won't be able to see steaming briskets jiggling and dripping with its juices. The brisket at Shivers is a bit on the dry side and so are the ribs. One more barbeque place to try and I'll might give up searching.

My heart goes out to those who have been deprived of truly great southern Bar-B-Q; and this is truly the best Bar-B-Q I've had in Florida. ABOUT THE NAME It's pronounced "SHYvers" (as in a "shy" person). I know this because our "country girl" waitress (raspy voice with an adorable "twang" accent) corrected me, "oh honey, it's SHYvers, not shivers like it looks" ABOUT THE PLACE: This is definitely one of those places that is so unassuming and remote from the hustle and bustle of overly active Miami Beach. The inside has that clean, but worn look, just the way a great BBQ joint should be; "authentic" to say the least. Take a seat anywhere; the joint has five community tables. They're not just any tables; they're huge, wooden picnic tables that can easily handle a party of 16 with no trouble. If you're uncomfortable with community seating because you're anti-social or don't like sitting by strangers, you can pass on the whole dining experience and hit up the "take out" window. I swear the take-out service at this place is non-stop. You may want to avoid the bathroom... it's not a pretty picture. ABOUT THE FOOD Normally one would rave about the main dishes, but the THIRTEEN side dishes to pick from were stars among themselves; especially the Sweet Potato Souffle and the big winner Cornbread Souffle (both are sweet, tasty and mouth watering). As good as the sides are, the main dishes are equally as impressive. Of the dishes I have tasted: brisket, smoked chicken, chicken wings, pulled pork, hickory chicken sandwich; all were really delicious... but it wasn't until I tried the Baby-Back-Ribs that I realized I was eating in BBQ heaven. I did think the smoked chicken was a tad dry but that's easily fixed with the variety of BBQ sauces they provide... a sweet BBQ sauce and a mustard base BBQ sauce are on the table, plus "shivers sauce" (house sauce) and a warm BBQ sauce are brought out with the food. All are worthy of bragging rights. They also have an extensive appetizer list with southern staples like okra and corn on-the-cob, plus specialties like squealing pig skins, corn nuggets, fried mac 'n cheese, fried pickle spears and bacon skins. Next trip I plan on trying out the Rib Trio (baby-back-ribs with spare ribs and beef ribs) and top it off with peach cobbler. SOME ADVICE First time here, try the classics: Baby-Back-Ribs or a rib combo with pulled pork. All dishes (even sandwiches) come with two sides; just be sure one is the Cornbread Souffle (you can thank me later). And wash it all down with some sweet tea (another southern staple missing in South Florida). FINAL THOUGHTS At night I typically dream of the standard random crap (sheep, girls, et cetera), but after my amazing meals here, Shivers has taken over my dreams like a plague. Corn bread casserole, a variety of BBQ sauces and tender meats all keep showing up in my sleep. YEAH... IT WAS THAT GOOD.

Great little place!! I went to lunch with my Husband & 3 boys. Everyone loved it & will definitely go again. It is a seat yourself kind of place. There is a Wait Staff. The food was delicious. BBQ was moist & the corn souffle was delicious. You won't regret going.

The best part about this place is the corn souffle! Makes my meal complete. The chicken is not my favorite. It's too dry for my liking. So I don't recommend it. The baby back ribs are delicious. Good place to let your hair down and chow down.

Usually a great place to eat; however last time I went, they were out of dark meat and corn souffle which are the main reasons I drive for 40 min.

Wow One of the Best BBQ restaurants in South Florida. Located on 280th and US1. It's definitely worth the drive from Kendall. Nice size restaurant with long benches so you can get close with your family or group. The menu has plenty of meat choices as well as great sides. I started off with the corn nuggets which were OK. Then I had the BBQ beef ribs which were fall off the bone Good. My sides were the BBQ beans and corn bread souffle which was sooo good! The BBQ sauce which they use has the perfect balance between sweet and tart. They also have about 3 more sauces that I didn't try cause I was digging the sauce that came with the ribs. i didn't get to try dessert cause I was to full. But I'm definetly coming here again. The wait staff is very friendly and are very help full in choosing items off the menu.

Such a sweet little place...what a BBQ restaurant should be! I heard the meat was tender, and the baby back ribs definitely fit the bill. The only rivaling ribs I've found so far in tenderness are J Alexander's (which kind of makes me laugh since it shouldn't be a swanky restaurant that gets that sort of thing right). I'd maybe say the flavoring on J Alexander's was slightly better, but I was definitely digging them. The beef ribs weren't as tender compared to the pork ribs, but that's not quite fair since they are different meats. We tried the three rib combo (which was fun by the way!) which was enough for the both of us. The spare ribs were okay but the baby back ribs won out. The sauces were all very unique. There was a sweet mustard which was actually pretty good (being from Texas, we don't have much of those there so I didn't expect to like it). There was also a sweet sauce, a pepper sauce, and another one I didn't catch the name of. I wasn't completely in love with any of them, but they were fun. We also had the baked beans which were almost like your traditional pork and beans but had a little tangy kick. The sweet potato soufflé was almost like a dessert...like a whipped sweetened sweet potato mash with crumb topping. We also tried the peach cobbler (yay that they even had it...what is a BBQ restaurant without it?). They claimed it was homemade, and I took a few more bites than I usually would (since it was really my hubby's). It definitely had some good bold flavors going on although I think they could have gone heavier on the actual peaches. Even the sweet tea was pretty good, and I rarely even try a sip of that Southern delicacy. And lastly, it was decorated rather quaintly with cute little funny plaques on the wall. One wall was a beautiful mural. Service was sweet. So all that said, I think I'd go back...especially since it's close to the Coral Castle and visitors so often want to go there.

Coming from Texas we thought we were in for a treat vs tasteless. I couldn't find the smoke coming from the smoke house which confirmed my suspicion of the parboiled watery taste in our chicken, ribs and rubbery brisket. The only BBQ was the sauces that drowned the meats and sandwich my wife had. No wonder we say "Don't Mess with Texas."

  • Afa A.

Very nice and attentive staff. Friendly smiles. They smoke their meat fresh each day. My chicken was soooo tender. And the BBC sauce was on the side and delicious. I think it had a citrus flavor! The cornbread souffle was divine. I don't know if there is even a single word to describe the cheesy hashbrown casserole. The key lime pie was smooth and delicious but a bit too sweet for me.

Love the baby back ribs, the meat just falls off the bones! The mashed potatoes may be the best I've had in a while. And the cornbread souffle is delicious. Definitely one of the best barbecue joints this far south.

It's not in Homestead, but Shiver's BBQ is waaaay down south in Leisure City, just south of Princeton. It's a family-owned and operated restaurant in an old barn of a building with varnished picnic-table-type seating that you'll share with your new dining friends if it's crowded. The menu has more combinations and size/pricing choices than what is shown on the internet web site, and the order lady at the checkout was very helpful pointing out what I should order. We got spare ribs, brisket and pulled pork, along with several accompaniments and two house BBQ sauces. I first tried the meats naked, with no sauce added. They all were pretty good, with a nice intermingling of meat, smoke and the house seasonings. The ribs were excellent, with just the right tenderness. The whole rack disappeared quickly. The pulled pork was moist and flavorful, with some nice bits of "bark" to add a bit of crunch and more flavor. The brisket was good, and maybe a bit dry, but it so often is before the addition of sauce. The sides were a mixed lot. The cole slaw, while possessed of good flavor, was the kind that seems like it was chopped as fine as can be in a food processor - to the point that it is almost soupy. Not my favorite. The corn on the cob was watery, like it had been sitting in hot water half the day. The baked beans were ok flavorwise, but I was disappointed to find no bits of meat in them. Now for the good: The cornbread souffle and the sweet potato souffle. The first was sort of like an ultra-moist cornbread with corn kernels. Very good. The sweet potato souffle was sort of like spiced and sweetened mashed sweet potatos, but with a more coherent texture. If you like sweet, you'll love them. Two BBQ sauces are offered. One is a dark brown, and is reminiscent of KC Masterpiece. Mildly sweet, and slightly smoky. The other is orange-red, and is very vinegary, with a bit of a sweet/sour thing going on. It's sort of like some Carolina-style sauces. I ended up tossing it and using the brown stuff. I like and recommend Shiver's. It may be too far for everyday eats, but if you're coming back from the Keys or a race in Homestead, stop by, and you won't be disappointed. Just avoid the cole slaw and corn!

This place deserves the hype. Packed at 7 on a Sunday. Too busy to wait for a table so I placed a to go order and ate it in the car. Pulled pork, cornbread soufflé and baked beans. All fantastic. Only suggestion: add Dr Pepper or Mr Pibb please

I personally hate most BBQ, but I LOVE this place! The pulled pork is amazing. The jalapeno cheese grits are to die for, as are the cole slaw and sweet potato souffle. The BBQ pork cheese fries are great as a stand alone meal. The corn fritters are tasty. I really haven't had a bad meal at this place, and I've been there loads of times as I live about 5 minutes away.

Ok fellow yelpers...The food here is good, but not 5 stars good! On my first visit, I chose the Baby back ribs, corn soufflé and hush puppies. Loved the hush puppies, hated the corn soufflé. It was way too sweet for me. I would have liked to try the jalapeño grits, but it was a Friday night, and they only serve them on Sat and Sun :( The ribs were tender and the meat was falling off the bone, but I just couldn't get into their sauces. The sweet sauce wasn't that sweet. The vinegar one was too vinegary, and the pepper one was just gross! I guess I am used to my Mom's homemade sauce, and nothing seems to compare. Next visit, it's brisket and grits for me!

By-far our favorite restaurant. We have recently started taking-out, as its more convenient for our family. The Shiver's sauce is something to write home about. Take a great rack of ribs, add Shiver's sauce and the result is about-of-this-world meal! Best Barbeque I have ever had.

Extremely CLEAN, Extremely FRIENDLY staff, very impressive menu, i went crazy trying to figure out what to eat! Went with the Spare Ribs, Fries, Baked Beans and a side of Corn Nuggets. The ribs were cooked perfect, however, they could of been better if they trimmed off a lot of the fat on them. I cook spare ribs at home A LOT so i know what I'm talking about! Other then the excessive fat on them, they were smoked perfect, nice and tender on the inside with a nice flavorful bark on them. As great as everything else was, i was a bit dissapointed how all the sides they serve are just mediocre frozen products. Frozen corn nuggets, a bit soggy fries, and baked beans from a can. For such great BBQ they should get the sides to compliment it!

BBQ and More!!! Had good eating here. I decided to try this restaurant after reading Yelp reviews. It was a short drive from my hotel and located off a main road. The staff was personable and helpful with suggestions for order. I had to have the cornbread souffle and ribs with greens. I also got peach cobbler w/vanilla ice cream for desert. I enjoyed everything except the greens. There is a tendency to put sugar in them and this is not my preference. Others may find it OK but for me it was a turn off. I basically tasted it. Fall off the bones best described the ribs. I got 2 sauces with the ribs but found that they were good as is. I did get take out but observed the dining area to be clean and well attended. I was also there during a quiet time so I cannot gauge the efficiency of the staff when rendering service. I was really surprised that the ice cream stayed formed all the way back to my hotel. Lived up to the promise from the waitress. True Southern meal in South Florida-Who Knew! Looks like this would be a great site to take in a game and munch southern meal... I'll be sure to return when back in the area.

Tasty and affordable!! YES it's worth the drive! It's the second time we visit and we were not disappointed!! Delicious full rack of ribs with a perfect texture corn soufflé and good portion French fries. 2 people under $20 what else can we ask for!!! Original place and great caring service

Oh yes I did! 5 Stars for the best damn Q in Dade County!! Thanks to fellow Yelpers Jeff G and Frank E, I made sure to make a slow, smokey pit stop at Shiver's BBQ while headed back to Miami, after a day hike in the Glades. So glad I did, because this place is the real deal. As soon as I walked in and saw the family style dining benches, I knew I was home. The waitress came out and sat down with us, in order to properly fill us in about the best items on the menu. Now this Georgia girl's personal test for any BBQ joint is to try the pulled pork, at least one rib, the baked beans, and of course the slaw. But Shiver's had so many amazing sides, we had to add a few others to old standbys. My eyes were immediately drawn to the cornbread souffle, so add that - oh... and what's that you say? We must try the fried corn? Fried. Corn. Yep, add that. Almost forgot the hush puppies that I've heard so much about. Why not? We can't have all those burned calories form the day just slip away so easily, right? The meats were just as tender and delicious as promised. I really dug the spicy house sauce, mixed in with the sweet sauce = perfection. And, damn, the sides were impressive as well. Super sweet slaw, which is my ultimate favorite!! Then, there's still three more sides I can't wait to try next time. Jalapeño cheese grits -I'm talking to you. Your days are numbered. Bookmark Shiver's and make sure to stop by anytime you are in Homestead or on the way to or from the keys. Just beware of the food-coma-itis if you have a long drive because you will eat every bite!

Ok, so originally, I was pretty disappointed with my meal. I ordered the sliced pork and it was a pretty small portion and it was kind of dried out. However, the sides were AMAZING! Cornbread Souffle, the sweet potato souffle, sweet potato fries were all crazy good! The Corn Fritters and Fried Mac were also pretty spectacular. My hubby ordered the baby backs and was sweet enough to share some with me and they were pretty darn good. For sure better than the other barbecue joints in town. One of my daughters ordered the pulled chicken sandwich and she was pretty underwhelmed also but my other daughter ordered the pulled pork sandwich with the collared greens and she was pretty impressed with both. So, this review is a mixed bag but I really do think that if I had ordered something different, I would have been pretty impressed with this place.

I've been coming here for years and I always find a new combination of foods to try. I love how huge there wings are. My meal of choice is usually the baby back ribs but they also have brisket that is on par. The fried mac and cheese is always an excellent choice if you're in need of a cheat day but they also have a hefty option of sides to pick from. i have yet to try their squealing bbq potato skins, but I hope to at one point. The only dessert I've ever had there was the peach cobbler and it was delicious. The only real negative I have is that It can get pretty pricey for a single person. Don't be afraid to give it a try though. The workers are very hospitable.

Barbecuing is an art and these guys are the Picasso's of the game. This is seriously the best BBQ I've ever had. I started off with the corn nuggets and fried mac n' cheese (both ridiculously delicious). As for my main course, I had the baby back rib and chicken combo with the hash brown soufflé and cheese fries as my sides. The meat literally fell off the bones and the chicken was so moist and flavorful, not something you always get with white meat. I highly recommend the hash brown casserole, seriously mind blowing! The deliciousness my tastebuds were experiencing was euphoric. I will definitely be returning to Shiver's and HIGHLY recommend it to any food enthusiast.

The food at this place was incredible. The corn soufflé was among my personal favorite. It was def. one of thee best BBQ places had ever eaten at. The service was also wonderful and it was cheap. As far as it is from my house, I will def. be back!

Shiver's has great Bbq. The neighborhood of the location is not the best & parking can be tight, but it is worth it. Cool rustic decor & service is always good. Prices are a little on the steep side & I prefer Sonny's Bbq, but I come to Shiver's often for a change.

their cheese fries where sooo good, but since I'm vegetarian I didnt have the pork. But I bet they would taste good with the pork on too.

OMG! I am totally obsessed with this place; it is hands down the best BBQ in all of Miami/South Florida. I live in Miami Lakes and have no problem driving down to homestead for some amazing, juicy, flavorful BBQ. I'm telling you it's worth the drive! I have been here about 3 times within the past month and not once have I had a bad meal; everything is packed with flavor. I highly recommend the Baby Back Ribs, it is extremely tender and the meat falls right off the bone. Oh my, you have to try the corn bread soufflé and the sweet potato soufflé; it is to die for. The food is beyond amazing, not to mention CHEAP and service is extremely friendly as well as attentive. Now I'm craving Shivers :( I'll definitely be back this weekend. TRUST ME...GO!!!

I've been wanting to try this place for years but we live in the gables. My first question is why are there 5 Shortys and only one Shivers? This place is awesome. The only reason I give it a 4 instead of a 5 is, my wife's ribs weren't as good as mine. They were good, but mine were great. I think they used a less quality rack on hers. I tried the baby back ribs, they were the best I ever had but like I said my wife's weren't. I also had the pulled pork, delicious with the sauce. My daughter had the smoked chicken, she ate it all but the piece I stole while cutting was amazing. The sides I tried were great too. The coleslaw is a little watery but very good and sweet. The sweet potato casserole was basically a pie in a cup. The beans were great. The cheesy potato hash browns were very good but I wish I had tried something else instead. We were too full for desert this time. Will be back even though it's half way to Cuba.

This is by far my favorite BBQ restaurant. Food is amazing, I usually have the pulled pork sandwich which is delicious.. Little tip ask for the toast to be garlic bread!!! Seating is picnic table style so it takes some getting used too and I really wish they had a military discount especially being so close to the Air Base. The discount itself doesn't matter so much as the principle behind it.

After reading reviews I decided to check it out. Friendly atmosphere and waitress was pleasant enough. Food came out pretty fast. I tried the Trio plate, bbq ribs , pulled pork and a sausage. Ribs were very tender . It came w 2 sides so I tried the colesaw and it tasted fresh and just the right amount of spices w no carrots or overload of mayo. I liked the casual informal atmosphere . Overall a tasty experience and prices were moderate.

Amazing BBQ! We are from Kansas City so we know BBQ! Pork spare ribs were tender and tasty. Pulled pork was flavorful! Loved the sides - hash brown casserole, collard greens, grits tasted homemade and delicious. And you judge a BBQ joint by its BBQ beans and they passed with flying colors! Tracy, our server, was great!

5 stars because everything I've tried is just mm mmm mmmmmm. This is the spot to come if you're craving BBQ... Even if you're not, you should come here anyway and try it. The restaurant has long benches where you will sit next to strangers which is awesome. Beef ribs, pulled chicken jumbo sammie, beef brisket jumbo sammie, sweet potato fries, sweet potato soufflé, corn bread soufflé, green beans, black eyed peas, fried cheesecake and did I mention the BBQ sauces are just so delicious?! Uggggh so good. Everything about this place is gold. Enjoy. (And don't forget to order 'to-go' for tomorrow)

Overrated. I had the brisket, I like Shortys way better. I tasted: ribs, fried mac & cheese, corn bread souffle, sweet potato souffle, baked beans and mash potatoes and it was all very mediocre. Blah

My favorite BBQ place in South Florida. It's a little south but well worth the drive. You can't go wrong. Friendly staff and great BBQ comfort food. The sides are really good too.

This was some of the best BBQ I ever had in my life. My wife and I shared the chicken and a 1/2 rack or ribes. My mom had a pulled pork sandwich. We were all blown away at the succulence and intense BBQ taste. And the sides! The sides were huge and heavenly.

My coworkers just brought me back a meal from shiver's and everything was just amazingly delicious. I love Cracker Barrel way more than I should but I must say that when it comes to hashbrown casserole, there is no competition between the two... Shivers wins hands Down. I also had the pulled pork and also the corn casserole. I just really do not have anything negative to say.. Can't wait to visit and tell my friends about this place.

Best BBQ in south Florida in my opinion!! Everything from the jumbo hit wings to the baby ribs are delicious. Good selection of different style sauces for your dipping pleasure! You walk into what looks like a barn on the outside, step inside and it's large picnic tables to sit at feels very comfortable and inviting. The sweet tea is some of the best I have had in homestead and the staff are very friendly. Great place for the family and friends!!

IT IS THE BOMB DIGGITY! If that doesn't describe my feelings, I don't think you're allowed to go this amazing place. There is nothing I can complain about. The service was awesome and the food is beyond great. This is a legit BBQ joint.

Probably the best BBQ in Dade county. Ribs are great, Fries are great. Chicken excellent. Too bad it's so far a drive. Picnic style tables. This the place to go if you want very good, all around BBQ. Hard to be specific...everything we've tried has been good. Could get crowded on the weekends...be prepared for await. Very fair pricing.

Our favorite restaurant to eat BBQ. We have been coming here for years. Definitely a regular. Restaurant is very family friendly and the food is great. If you like spicy try the Andouille sausage and Jalapeño cheese grits. Baby backs are excellent as are the short ribs. Servers are great and Martha and Perry are wonderful hosts

I have tried several BBQ establishments. This is probably very near if not as good as it gets as far as South Florida is concerned. I enjoyed the sauces and the ribs were fall off the bone good. I also liked their baked beans and their french fries were tasty also. Well deserved 5* in my book, haven't tried a BBQ this good since my visit to California. Try it if you're in the vicinity, you won't be disappointed.

This place is awesome bbq. Great prices and the BLOCK of Onion Rings is to die for. (literally...heart attack waiting to happen but delicious!!) I am giving it three stars for only one negative thing I have to say about it. They close WAYYY too early. 9 oclock?!? What is that. This place could have made about 1000 dollars off of me this year if they closed at 10 or 11. Their loss.

Had the brisket platter with jalapeño cheese grits and cornbread soufflé. All were tasty expect the brisket was a little dry. Found the restaurant using the Yelp app. Thumbs up and I would recommend this place to others.

Thank you Yelp for recommending Shiver's---no way would I have ever found this place or even ventured inside. Outside Shiver's looks like a dingy log-cabin but inside it is nothing short of a carnivore's fantasy land. Amazing bbq fare. Some of the best ribs and pulled pork I have ever had. Portions are huge and the food---fantastic! I could eat their baby back ribs all day long. Most dishes come with sides---get the hush puppies or corn soufflé! Prices are extremely reasonable and service is friendly. Only drawback is the cafeteria style communal tables. So be ready for small talk with "new" friends. Shiver's is sooooo worth a a detour on the drive to of from the Florida Keys. It's not even a mile out of the way from long drive from Miami. And did I already mention that the BBQ fare is nothing short of amazing?

Well i gave this place a 5, cuz i am a foodie fan of southern bbq always searching for a good bbq meal and i found it here. Let me start by saying that the sweet potatoe and corn souffle are off the chain! The brisket is amazing as are thebbq ribs! I make a mean brisket handed down from generations and my husband and kids raved about shivers brisket. I dont eat collard greens but decided to try and wow what a pleasure! Delicious is all i can say about the food here, and oh the peach cobbler is amazing!

  • Yvette B.

I had the pleasure of having a friend recommend this place to us and I'm glad he did. We started with the fried corn, pretty good but not my fav, great flavor but it was cold. The BBQ cheese fries were to die for. They were delicious with real shredded cheese BBQ sauce and rib meat all over, I could have eaten it all as a platter. The ribs had amazing flavor, the corn soufflé was good, great flavor but more like a crumble, and the hashbrown casserole was amazing... The only reason why I gave them 4 stars was bc of the service. While the lady that helped us was really nice, she did not provide great service, she didn't even refill our water once, another server had to bring us out food bc if was getting cold and she had not brought it out, she got my hubby's order wrong, did not fix and the corn was cold and she took it back and never even brought him a new one. It's good food but I'm not sure if we will actually sit and eat there again, we may just drop by and take out as long as they get the order right! Overall we will try again one more time bf we give it a final yay or nay, stay tuned for the update. I would definitely eat their food again.

First visit was fantastic! Second visit was below average. I requested a full slab of the pork ribs and got a mishmash of ribs from about 12 different slabs of ribs; some pieces were great others were not. Moral of the review, order off the menu!

Ok. Brisket just a shade short of dry, and kind of a smallish portion for a $10 "platter". The sauces are good, the sides are great, and the service is middlin'.

Personally, I think this place is a little overrated. I've heard such amazing things about it that I didn't think I could be let down... :/ I will admit to not being the biggest BBQ fan though so that's why I gave it 3 stars instead of the 2 I wanted to. I figured I may not rave about something that deserves it. I went with some co-workers for lunch. We say down & the waitress immediately got our drinks. Service: While she was efficient, our waitress wasn't the friendliest or attentive of servers (at least with us; the cops she was serving seemed to get a lot of smiles & laughs.). The lady at the counter was really nice. Food: I'm going to reiterate that I'm not the biggest BBQ fan...I ordered the chicken tenders with a side of sweet potato fries & green beans. I asked if I could sub one of the sides ($2.49) for corn on the cob (a starter priced at $2.39) & was told that wasn't allowed. Ok, no problem. Green beans it is. Whenever a restaurant doesn't allow substitutions for something that is cheaper & not difficult to make, I already begin to question it. When my meal comes out, I'm happy....Until I look at the green beans. The chicken is tasty as are the sweet potato fries. Tasty, but nothing out of this world. Just tasty. There was also a bland piece of "Texas toast" that was a little....over toasted. Nothing to it, just half a slice of dry bread. The dipping sauces were good. Then I look at my green beans & the first thing I think is, "canned". I try one & my thought is confirmed. They're canned. Don't think I'm a food snob because I'm far from it. I like McDonald's & Taco Bell & I love canned green beans...at home...when I don't have time to make fresh ones. SO, my quarrel isn't with the green beans themselves. My problem is with a restaurant that serves canned green beans. You're in the business of making & serving food so you may as well actually MAKE it. I'm given a tiny side of green beans that are probably 1/4 of the actual $0.99 can for the price of $2.49 (if it weren't included with the meal)!!!! WTF?!?! ANY restaurant that serves something straight out of the can is not that great, in my opinion. My coworkers seemed to enjoy the cornbread soufflé & pulled pork. All in all, it's not horrible but it's not good either. Overrated. But that's just my opinion.

This place is far as hell but worth the drive! We usually go to shortys as it is closer but many times the ribs there have more fat on them then actual edible meat. On my quest to find a better BBQ place a friend recommended Shivers. We really liked it! Ribs were tender, juicy, and fell off the bone. Not tough and full of fat like I had grown accustomed to. Sweet tea was also delicious. It is a casual place with good service and good prices. We will definitely be back!

  • Claudia J.

We got here around 1ish.. on a weekend... pretty busy... good sign!!! we ordered ribs and chicken, it was good. It's a bit different from other BBQ joints I have tried before. They have like 4 kinds of sauces, BBQ, sweet, apple/vinaigrette and mustard. I'll stick to the BBQ one... It has a nice relaxed ambiance, you can see what your next neighboor is having... since they are picnic tables. Everything comes in thru your eyes right!! It's like.. what is that... and what are you having??? Service was friendly but a bit slow, and food came out cold... I didn't understand the slow... if it was cold maybe it was done already!?@#$ but, the flavors were good!

If you love some BBQ ribs, this is the place to be. The meats fall off the bones and are glazed with their special BBQ sauce. Let me not get started on their sweet corn bread! It could get a little expensive, specially when you can eat 2 platters by yourself! The staff is very nice and friendly. Get ready to dig in and get messy!

There ribs are out of this world, the sauce they use is so yummy. I have been there two times, each time I was completely stuffed. Fried Onion Rings were heavenly. (So Fattening but all fried food is)

This is real BBQ! Just a drive down south and you will find Shiver's right off the highway. The seating is family-style benches. Luckily there was plenty of room between ourselves that the other guests, though we did engage in friendly chatter about the food with others. I had the pulled pork and half rack baby back ribs combo with cole slaw and cornbread souffle. Oh my goodness! The ribs were amazing and fell right off the bone! The sides were just as good in particular the cornbread souffle. Delicious! The pulled pork was a bit more underwhelming but that's because I'm used to pulled pork cooked with the sauce. I highly recommend this place. It's a bit of a drive for most, but worthwile. Much better food than other BBQ chains in town.

the only times i get to go to shivers is when on my way to or from the keys. this is because shivers is in homestead. thats super-fuckin-far for me. we were on our way from the keys. miss f who loves meats and i were hungry so shivers seemed like the perfect spot for a late lunch. ribs. thats whats up. delicious ribs. the sauces are awesome too. vinegar based spicy stuff to die for. the side dishes. wow. cornbread souffle, coleslaw, bbq beans, collard greens. oh my god... even though i just got back from lunch and i ate like a pig (cause i went to an all you can eat buffet and i ate all i could) i am craving those friggin ribs. wow. thats it. i have nothing else to add. oh wait, the service... yes. its nice. they even recharged our cellphones as they were almost dead... thats nice. oh man but those ribs mmm mmm mmm.

The food is great and the staff is super friendly. Trouble with this place is the small kitchen seems to get overwhelmed and the wait could be awhile. Other than that I do recommend it. Be forewarned though that's it a big empty space with large shared picnic tables that everyone sits at.

This place will definitely fulfill your craving for some good BBQ. On our way back from Key Largo, we decided to stop here for a late lunch/early supper (sunch? linner?). It's very bare bones in terms of decor with long wooden tables and benches that give the place a very communal feel. I had the 1/2 smoked chicken platter with jalapeno cheese grits and cornbread souffle; the husband went for the full rack of baby back ribs with baked beans and french fries. There were so many delicious side order choices to choose from, it was hard to decide - I still need to go back to try the mashed potatoes, hush puppies and sweet potato souffle for sure. I took off a star because my chicken was dry. Very, very tasty, but dry. Also, it was all white meat, so that's probably a small factor as well. I combined their sweet BBQ sauce with their mustard-based sauce and once my chicken was immersed in the sauce, I was in heaven. My jalapeno cheese grits were expertly prepared and the corn souffle was addictive - it was more like a pudding actually - chock full of sweet, plump corn kernels and browned bits of bread as well - so good. My husband's rack of baby backs was enormous and fall-off-the-bone tender. He liked the baked beans, but the fries seemed like the frozen kind. Not bad, but could have been better. Both our platters also came with some very tasty Texas toast. Our plates were humongous and left no room in our tummies for peach cobbler or homemade banana pudding, but there's always next time!

After a friend recommended it, my husband and i made the 30 plus min trip to Homestead. We are very glad we did. Our server was nice and most importantly the food was great!! We both had the bbq baby backs/pulled pork combo. Pork was flavorful and moist. Ribs were good. The cornbread souffle was amazing!!!! Will definitely be back.

Best BBQ in Miami! This place is all the way down south but it is definitely worth the drive! I have never had anything on the menu that I didn't like. My husband loves the fries appetizer with the pulled pork. The ribs and brisket are amazing, but my favorite items are their sides. I love love love their cornbread souffle and cheesy hashbrown casserole. If you want real BBQ for a decent price, I highly recommend this place!

After a Sunday morning biking excursion down south Dade way, this was a perfect antidote for two hungry riders. It's located on US1 a few miles south of Southland Mall. When I evaluate BBQ places, (which is one of my favorite things to do as a Yelper) there are only two criteria: 1. The Meat and 2. The Three S's - Sides, Sauce and Service. I had the Brisket Plate and my wife had the Brisket Sandwich. We both agreed the meat was pretty good, but not worth excessive praise. It was pretty tasty, and the texture was passable. If you like really soft, juicy brisket like I do, this wasn't it. Now it may be that their other meat dishes would have been a better choice. When asked what is their best dish, the waitress quickly said "Babyback Ribs!" I'll try those next time. For the sides I had coleslaw, and I followed my wife's wise advice and had the cornbread souffle. If you go here and you don't order the cornbread souffle, then what can I say, you're nuts! It is warm, soft, fluffy and had little corn kernels hiding in there like tiny Easter eggs. It was delicious! I also sampled her Sweet Potato Souffle, which was also nice, like a fluffy light mashed sweet potato dish. The sauces were a bit of a letdown. The Vinegar-based didn't have much flavor and didn't stick to the meat. The Sweet was identical to a store bought brand like K.C. Masterpiece. The best tasting sauce was a result of my mixing the two together, which brought out the best in each. The service was good, friendly, fast enough. The place is like a mini-Shorty's with long picnic tables, continuous windows looking out into the street, but no outdoor seating! I recommend you check this place out. It is not your knock-your-socks-off BBQ joint, but it is good, it is reasonably priced, and it is local.

We came here upon the advice of a local. I am not a big fan of BBQ, but I like trying local places. It was Friday night, and the place was busy, so there was about a 10 minute wait. No bar or anywhere to wait, so we just sat outside. The restaurant has long picnic tables, so if you are looking for an intimate dining experience, forget it. ( Then again, BBQ does not scream ROMANCE to me) I was surprised to see a few local craft beers on the menu, but having come from a nearby winery we opted for sodas. My husband is a huge wing fan, and he ordered the wings- the serving was huge! He did not even finish them- ( even with some help) I could not help but give in to a weakness for onion rings- a big order, however they were very greasy with the kind of breading that just slides off- I was not a big fan of them, I ordered the chicken BBQ, ( white meat a buck extra) with hush puppies, and the corn bread souffle- that was really, really good. The chicken was tasty and moist. My husband had the sweet potato souffle which was also amazing. His main dish was the brisket which he said was good. On the table there were a variety of different sauces to try. Our waitress was friendly and kept our drinks filled. The portions are a good size, and sadly we just could not finish them. Our waitress was ready with some boxes to take home. I loved chatting with the guy sitting near us. As I said, the place was crowded, but we never had any issue with hearing one another- what a great find- I highly recommend.

If you are thinking Miami cant possible have good bbq..this place will prove you wrong. This is a great restaurant. The staff was friendly and the waitress kept checking on us. The food was good. I had the beef brisket and it had great flavor and was juicy. I also had the collard greens and they were seasoned differntly than any other i tasted. My husband had the ribs and they we're very tender and slid of the bone. The atmosphere is really layed back and they have plenty of bbq sauce and paper towels available. The prices are great and so is the variety of food. Overall was a great experience. They only thing I don't like is the seating. I feel like im sitting at a picnic table. Check it out. Its in homestead fl and although its about 30 mins from Miami you wont be disappointed!

Pulled pork! Sweet potatoes. Lots of nice sauces. Iced tea. We stopped here on a recent trip down to Key West. What a great re-fueling spot. The pulled pork was great, but the sweet potatoes.... oh my. Dessert worthy.

Shiver's is a great bbq joint --- a shack by the side road filled with long picnic table seating and colorful locals. The food is outstanding. Great brisket, ribs and pulled pork. I would probably pick the ribs if i made to make just one choice. The cornbread souffle is a unique, delicious and memorable item. The jalapeno cheese grits served on Saturdays and Sundays are for me the single greatest thing they serve. The sweet tea was also done just right. The only complaint was that the hush puppies were just average. Worth the drive down from Miami

This is a mom & pops bbq joint. Definitely a must if you are into bbq!!! Had the pulled pork, hush puppies, corn souffle, brisket, baby back ribs, everything is 5 stars. Love it and definitely will come back very soon!!!

It was FILTHY DIRTY. ..... silverware was disgusting. .... the service was terrible and the food was not good. Brisket was dry & cold and the ribs had a funky taste to them not to mention they were cold. I wont be back. One star cause I had to but doesnt even deserve that one. Wow just terrible!!!

First time here in at least 10 years. Place is still great! Brisket was perfectly cooked. The mustard sauce has just the right amount of kick in it. Cornbread souffle was so sweet that I ate it for dessert. Would have liked a bigger sandwich, but the price was reasonable and the sides ample that I left full and happy. Too bad it's so far south!

Best BBQ in South Florida. Tiny spot with great ribs, pulled pork, sides are good. I mean, it's a simple place. in and out. lunch or dinner, you want BBQ you come here. Prices are good also. Ribs are a tad overpriced in my opinion, but well worth the money. definitely a place to stop by if you are in the area. Hard Truth

This is a neighborhood bar b que shack, if you like Shorty's Bar B Que, then this is it's little cousin. The food here is a little more authentic than Shorty's. I had the Collard Greens, Baked Beans and the Chicken twice. For a restaurant, it was seasoned fairly well. The checken was really good, I ate it and forgot to layer it with hot sauce. They did however forget to place my full order in the bag and I didn't notice until I got home. Upon my return, I wasn't even given the missing item after letting them know there error. Lesson : Check your bag before you leave.

After eating in just about every BBQ establishment around town, I think I can now safely say this is the best BBQ joint in Miami. The place is the entire package: good meat, awesome sides, great sauces, and real BBQ joint ambiance. I just wish it were closer to home.. but then again, maybe not since it'd probably get ruined by latinization. You know, when they start offering black beans, rice, and plaintains as a side.. It only goes downhill from there after that. No, instead they offer things like Cornbread Casserole, Sweet Potato Casserole, Jalepeno Cheese Grits, just to name a few.. Or justh the usual BBQ staples of French Fries and BBQ Beans. I keep talking about the sides, now let's talk meat! I've had the Baby Back fall-off-the-bone goodness, Spare Ribs, Pulled Pork, and it's all good and consistently so. None of it really needs any extra sauce, but they have a good selection of homemade and bottled varieties to choose from, none of them suck. If you can somehow bring yourself to eat desert, the bannana pudding is amazing.. Key Lime is also _very_ good. I usually skip desert because I'm fat enough as it is.. that and I feel like I'm ready to explode after eating a meal here. .. it should also be worth mentioning that they recently won 2nd best in the Local10.com poll.. 2nd best only because someone cheated and submitted Harvey's Smokehouse multiple times. There is no comparison here, skip Harvey's and go a little further south for a lot better deal!

The pulled pork sandwich, cornbread souffle, an sweet potato fries were delicious - wish they had Mac n cheese on the menu!

Worth the drive from Miami. The baby back ribs were great. The jalepeno cheese grits and the corn soufle were really good, the sweet potato side dish is heavenly. they have the best andouille sausage in south florida, seriously where do they get it?!?! The seating is very rustic, just a bunch of picnic tables lined up so you'll be getting to know the couple next to you on busy weekends. Great service too!

Good ol' southern Bar B Q. After touring around the area, we worked up an appetite. After reading some of the reviews, we decided to lose our healthy streak and try some good ol' Bar B Q. The staff was friendly upon arrival and the place was clean. It was bench style seating. I had the baby back ribs and beef combo with collard greens and mash potatoes and my husband had the beef brisket platter with the same sides. The sauces are amazing too. I felt just like the regular seated across from us that blurred out "oh my good! THAT WAS GOOD!", then threw his napkin down stuffed!! Now how are we suppose to get back on the highway without passing out?! Lol

Is a destination and a journey to make it to Shriver's from where we are... but this trip had a very happy ending. Keep in mind that the place is not very big and some waiting time may be necessary. But trust me the wait is worth it. After we drove, waited and were finally at our table (which we shared with a lovely family)... we were in BBQ heaven. The menu triggered a severe case of anxiety... ja ja ja... I wanted to order one of each... The menu is perfect... everything fried, BBQ, Pulled, dipped or slowly roasted... they have some combinations that will allow you to have a good sampler of Shriver's deliciousness... I started with Corn on the Cobb... Yummy!!! filled with ounces of melted butter... enough to clog my precious heart! Then we had the 1/2 Slab of baby back ribs -sides of Hush Puppies + BBQ Beans- and Spare ribs with Cole Slaw and Baked Beans. They bring out some good sauces to pour over your meat...they are both finger licking good... or you can try the regular BBQ sauce it was my favorite... Everything was delicious, the portions are big...so have a big appetite or sharing may be a good option. Im still dreaming of my Baby Back ribs. they were tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. The servers are sweet, kind and very attentive... good all american BBQ!!! Make the trip, is worth it!

Wow. This place is the best. It is not fancy in the least but that's ok because the food is amazing. I had a half rack of ribs with the cornbread side dish. Best ribs I ever had hands down. And the cornbread thingy was delicious. The meat fell off the bone and the bbq sauce was perfectly sweet. Servers were very nice and we were greeted quickly even though there was a short wait. They had an ipa on draft so I was happy with that as well. It's a little out of the way for me but I will be back for sure.

A good surprise. It's a old fashion BBQ joint that makes great BBQ. Had the baby back ribs and beef brisket combo with cornbread soufflé, BBQ beans and collard greens. It was a lot of food, although I couldn't share it...it was too delicious to share. Baby back ribs were perfect. Beef brisket doesn't come with sauce which is great but there are plenty of sauces for it if that's what you like. Will come by again soon!

I have a serious love affair with good BBQ and Shivers is a finger licking heaven! South Florida doesn't have a BBQ culture like they do in the real south, but this place is seriously AMAZING! It's picnic tables, wood cabin, laid back allure gives his place a whole lot of southern country charm. No wonder people haven't stopped "piggin' out" since 1950... its down right delicious! So what's good? Well everything really, but I would highly recommend getting my fave plates which will leave your palate wanting more. ~Fried Corn is juicy, buttery and just what the doctor ALWAYS prescribes! ~Baby Back Ribs is the BEST hands down! Pull up your sleeves and go to town... these ribs are tender, fall right off the bone and are juicy with every bite! This is the kinda stuff that makes vegetarians become carnivores!! ~Pulled Pork and sauces are outstanding! ~BBQ Beans. I am not a beany (bean eater), but these beans are out of this world! ~Sweet Potato Souffle is savory and sweet! ~Cornbread Souffle is just INCREDIBLE! You can't have BBQ without cornbread! Shivers is downright country, so don't expect a fancy dining experience. Service is always great and pretty quick! Food is fresh (yep, the little farm piggies and cows are right down the street). This is the BBQ mecca of SoFlo!!!

NPS = 9 Some of the tastiest and richest bbq in South Florida! A definite must-do when you're down South. Start off with the BBQ cheese fries if you're hungry. It's just a tray full of fries and they dump pulled pork and cheese on top. Forget about exercise and doing anything for the rest of the day...you will knock out! The ribs are a must have as well, and I'll even let you in on a little secret: create a plate of sauces (almost like an easel) for yourself and sample all of them with the mea!. All the sauces are fantastic but the best one is definitely their mustard based one. The Long Hammer IPA is fantastic and often sells out. Make sure to grab a pint. Also, for sides I recommend the cheesy hashbrowns and the collard greens! The greens even have a salty, spicy kick to them that is just simply delicious. Shiver's, I'll see you next time I'm down South. I might just even make the drive down just to visit you!

Not only is this the best BBQ I've had in Florida, the corn bread soufflé here is something out of a dream... And I usually don't eat corn! Honestly everything I've ordered off the menu has always been amazing. Personal favorites: cheesy hash brown casserole, sweet potato soufflé and corn bread soufflé. Yes I would go here just to eat the sides. The BBQ is amazing and so are the non BBQ'd items. I drive 30 minutes on a regular basis to sit and eat here! Not to mention the waitresses are ALL sweet! Like their tea which you should also try!

$11.50 pitchers of beer and great BBQ. I had a sampler with ribs, brisket and pork. Nice selection of sauces too. The other reviewers don't mention the collard greens much but they are spectacular and spicy - which I loved. The corn casserole was just ok. Skip the hush puppies. It's a communal seating joint with super long picnic tables. Service was fabulous and we could see they also do a very brisk carry out business out a side window.

Is there anything better than Barbeque...Nope , food so comforting it takes me to wonderland where I can be fat and happy forever // Baby back ribs that melt in your mouth, ribs with amazing flavor, corn soufflé that made me want to shout, pulled pork I didn't want to stop eating, great beans and good service, not to mention that they have the best and most balanced BBQ sauce I have ever tried. Yep! as good as it gets. They had me at sweet corn soufflé.

I have eaten a lot of BBQ in a lot of different places and although South Carolina BBQ is still my favorite, Shiver's wins it for all of Florida. Seriously good BBQ. Perfectly smoked and you can taste the love and years of built up seasoning in the smoker. If you have never been here before, do yourself a favor - get in your car and try it out! So worth the drive down south. I usually make a day of it and go down to the Flea Market on 244 and us1 as well as the numerous nurseries and antique shops found on Krome Avenue in Homestead. Don't forget to order the homemade banana pudding that comes in a mason jar! Heaven!!!!!!!

We happened upon this place by accident. We were hungry and BBQ sounded good so we stopped in. Later I read the Yelp reviews and found that this place was highly rated. Deep south BBQ in south Florida? They have it! Some of the best Q I've eaten! We had ribs, pork, and brisket and all were exceptional. The sides of cole slaw, beans, greens, and sweet potato fries were great. Our service was beyond good and all of the wait staff were long-term employees. They knew how to take care of you. The dining room has long community tables with benches so you may share an eating area with others, but that is often fun. You have to try this place.

After living 30 years in Kentucky and Tennessee with extensive travel to the South, and midwest, I feel I know good BBQ. When a coworker recommended Shivers, we took a chance and unfortunately, I was under impressed. I ordered a beer which was barely chilled and was served with a plastic frosted glass... any idea how long a plastic mug stays frosted? While I appreciated the server's concern, my options were to chug the beer or drink it warm. We ordered the potato skins as an app which could best be called "nothing soecial". My barbecue short ribs were awesome but the rest of the meals were a disappointment. The barbecued pork ribs ordered by my son were dry and tasteless. The sides were mediocre at best. Perhaps if you've never had really good BBQ you don't know the difference; we've had really good BBQ and it wasn't at Shivers.

Picked up food for Father's Day. Reason I only gave it 3 versus 4 stars is this is really (for us) a place to pick up food. But if you want to eat it there the insde leaves a lot to be desired. Very few tables, always full, warm and hard to get a seat and then be prepared to share a table with strangers. I ordered the 1/2 chicken all white and got 2 decent sized breasts and sides were collard greens which were very tasty and green beans which suprisingly were also very good. I eat on the healthy side so I liked that my chicken while tasty was not drenched in bbq sauce. I gave the bread to my hubby since I really don't enjoy soggy toast but he does lol.I ordered for my son the pulled pork platter with fries and bbq beans. I thought the pork a little dry but my son loved it and I guess if you add bbq sauce it will be great. The bbq beans were amazing. The fries are fine. Hubby ordered the beef & baby back rib platter with corn bread casseole and mashed potatoes and gravy. He loved the mashed potatoes and they were home made. The corn bread casserole is just amazing ! The best we've ever had. Hubby ordered the coconut crream pie and loved it. The ribs were fall off the bone and the sauce was tasty.Perfect ribs and a huge portion. So overall the food in this place is 4 stars for a barbecue joint. Service is OK only but they were busy and we did'nt get any sauce or utensils in our to go order and that's just not acceptable. The price is reasonable though not cheap. Our order was $45 which is great for the amount of food we got (at least 2 meals each) but they could of added the sauce and utensils. The place is always full which tells you how good the food is. Shame they haven't remodeled the interior and made it more modern, better seating , maybe an outdoor area with music. We definitely will be back but only as a take out place.

Yay for Shiver's!!!! I was skeptical about making the drive to Homestead (?) for just food. But now....now I don't even think twice about the drive, only how much I'll be salivating on my way there. Don't let the surprise of communal seating take away from the experience. This isn't a fancy schmancy place. But it's clean and nice and smells of smoked food - exactly what a great BBQ place should be like. Now let's get to the food. Boy, is the food good! I've had the pig trio and it's worth every penny. The ribs are really, really fall-off -the-bone goodness. The best ribs in South Florida. Pulled pork is great, sausage is great. For sides, I HIGHLY recommend the cornbread soufflé. It is to die for. Fried okra appetizer is also good and you can never go wrong with corn on the cob. Service is good and prices are definitely good too, given the quality of the food. Don't think - just go. Get your BBQ grub on.

Your old fashioned BBQ joint. This place has been in business since before I was born... And I can remember President Carter... We drive for a long time because it was highly recommended for authentic BBQ. We had to wait for a while outside and I was very hungry. My boyfriend bought a beer while waiting to be seated. Once we got seated our friendly waitress explained some questions I had. We ordered the Rib Trio to share since we didn't want to overdo it. The ribs were tender and tasty it could have been a bit warmer and the sauces were also very good. My favorite was the BBQ sauce with mustard base. It comes with two sides and we ordered the sweet potato fries. They were very crispy. The creamy hash browns ( can't remember the name on the menu) were interesting almost like a Mac & cheese but without the Mac and hash browns instead. Would probably have it again. We los ordered the beans. They were also very good. This place is very casual with a vintage feeling. The seating consist of long picnic tables to share. Would come back when in the area.

Best barbecue within reasonable driving distance from Miami. The sides are really good. The ribs and chicken are better than average. Its what Shortys should be, but isn't.

This is pretty much as real as it gets for barbecue in South Florida. It's anything but fancy, with nothing but long family style picnic bench seating, paper rolls for napkins, unlabeled containers of sauce (you'll have to sample to figure out which is which or what it what), with your paper placemats serving as menus. I had the half rack baby backs with came with two sides from which I chose the BBQ beans and collard greens along with an extra addition of fried okra. For a half rack, the baby backs ended up being a far larger portion, much more meaty than I've been served elsewhere, falling off the bone tender and with an excellent true smoke flavor; I'd say about as good as it gets for barbecued baby back ribs. Though I was rather nonplused by the collard greens, having had better, I can't complain and the BBQ beans I found to be extremely tasty. The service I received couldn't have been more polite, knowledgeable and efficient particularly considering the large crowd with which the service staff had to deal. Shriver's is indeed one heck of a popular place and quickly gets customers packed which is a testament to the good taste and quality of the barbecue they serve. It's also a super casual fun place to grub down and eat.

We love Shiver's BBQ so much that my now husband and I looked no where else for catering for our wedding which was on December 13, 2014. Michael and Cindy, the owners, were extremely helpful in terms of deciding what we should get for this type of event (i.e. nothing fried or it would become mushy come dinner time after its been sitting there for 2 hours - she even gave us some mac-n-cheese free of charge on one of our visits to test it out). Cindy also helped come up with an additional appetizer we could serve during the cocktail hour - pulled pork buns in addition to the Andouille sausage. Because they have special BBQ sauces, my mother in law swung by there a couple of days before with some squirt bottles we had labeled specifically to match our wedding decor, and they were kind enough to fill them up for us. On the big day, for the main course we had baby back ribs, chicken, sweet potato soufflé, hash brown soufflé, green beans and mashed potatoes. I had a little bit of everything and I thought it was all delicious. Actually better than I had anticipated, even though I already knew how much I loved their food. Our guests LOVED the food. I am still getting compliments on how amazing the food was, and how great it was to have something different than the regular catered chicken plate people tend to serve at weddings. I am sure to let everyone know that the food came from Shiver's BBQ in Homestead. Thank you Michael, Cindy & Shiver's!!! We love your food, your service and the special attention you gave us when it came to our wedding!
