Came all the way to homestead from Miami for some authentic Mexican food and this place did not disappoint! Great price for great food. My husband and I each had a full meal and we had two appetizers, two sodas and two beers. The total price was under $40... Bargain! Delicious food and super friendly staff. Its off the beaten path but try not to miss it because it will be worth the drive.

Am I in Mexico? But really. This place is awesome. If you don't eat here, you're doing it wrong.

Nice staff and atmosphere. There was only one other table at 11:30 in a Friday. Crowd must come in later. Bathrooms are outside. They have outdoor seating under an awning. Fresh made chips that are thick like u get in Mexico. Great salsa that wasn't spicy. I like the topping sampler they bring with your meal... Three sauces, onions, cilantro. I had the two amigos platter... 2 tacos, two tostadas, enchilada, rice, beans. It tasted very authentic. They use cubed steak. No cheddar cheese! I would go back.

Delicious, authentic Mexican cuisine. Fresh, Whole fried fish! Fresh salsa and guacamole! The tortilla chips, I believe are made in house as well. They are good but a little greasy. The corn tortilla taste homemade. Went on Sunday afternoon, packed house of mostly locals! A good sign. Great service. Will definitely be back!

One of the best Mexican restaurants in Homestead. The menu has a wide array of dishes and they offer breakfast. Karaoke and 2 x 1 drinks on Fridays and Saturdays. The decor is nice and there is outdoor seating.

This place is great, I've been here with my significant other more than 4 times. The service is great and the food is great.... I'm deciding to give a four star, because I came to the restaurant with my sister in law (which I had highly spoken to her about this restaurant) and she ordered enchiladas verdes de queso.... I don't know where to start, the enchiladas weren't just cold, the cheese wasn't mexican, AND it was diced up and not cooked. We returned the plate because she wanted the cheese melted. And the plate was hot, but the cheese was still not melted enough and still cold. Meaning they just put it in the microwave. The waitress was really bad too, she took an eternity to bring our food. And to serve our drinks. As of for me, I always get the same; enchiladas verdes de Pollo and they never dissapoint, I actually think they're the tastiest in town.

Went here with my boyfriend a few times service was OK food was pretty good. There was one time when I saw on the table bug that look like maybe a termite and I even disregarded it because I was just so hungry. A Employee that used to work there went to my boyfriends job recently and was saying how they reuse the tortilla chip that other tables leave. And how the kitchen cleanliness is disgusting and they are not sure how they pass inspections. I am now not sure if I want to return I also did read a review that they denied a service dog and that is extremely upsetting knowing that one of my family members needs a service dog everywhere she goes. This restaurant needs to get their act together and become a bit more professional.

I love to support local Family restaurants. This is some I'm of the best Mexican food in Homestead. When you walk in it looks a little like a messy food counter, but the restaurant in the back is beautifully decorated. II could easily see coming here on a Friday night for cerveces. The salsas were all home made and fresh! The 5 taco platter was amazing! I like the beef, shredded chicken and pork the best, but chorizos was also great! I appreciate the waitress for both English and Spanish. I will come back when ever nearby

We came to enjoy the Keys and ended up spending a great night in Mexico. Because it was Friday, the margaritas were 2 for 1. But the highlight was the meal. I went for the pork chops and my partner had the grilled tilapia. Both were great tasting and beautifully presented. The service was good, the atmosphere was pure Cuernavaca and it was disappointing to be finished. Note to the family: If you get tired of Homestead, move to Minneapolis. We need a great Mexican family restaurant.

Have I said how good this place is?? Places like La Cruzada are what make Homestead so special ... Great authentic Mexican options, the decor and food will make you feel as if you were stopping for a quick bite somewhere south of the border.

Don't really have any complaints about this place. Tried another local Mexican restaurant nearby the day before and this one is definitely much better. The service is great, very friendly and filled with smiles. Atmosphere is super laid back - they really want you to enjoy the meal. Water glasses are refilled quickly, fresh sauces and toppings brought to the table with plenty of abundance. Food was well seasoned, tasted fresh and like authentic "home made" Mexican. The burrito is huge, filling and tasty. The 5 taco platter is cutely plated and they let you choose whatever meat and fillings you prefer. Got to sample them all - everything tasted great! You'll leave this spot full and happy!

When I go to homestead I always go to the same Mexican Restaurant...This time we decided to go out of our comfort zone and go try this other restaurant a friend had recommended. As soon as we walked in I notice we where nicely greeted and sited. The restaurant is clean, the waiters are nice. The service was super good, their menu offers a huge variety of dishes including a list of Mexican Breakfast, Burritos, tacos, antojitos, soups and to share, they also serve the usual chips and salsa but they use 3 different kinds of salsa, all super delicious and freshly made, they also bring you different garnishes, all fresh to add them to your entrée if desired. Me and my husband both ordered Los Tres Amigos, which had 2 tacos, 2 tostadas, 2 enchiladas and rice and refried beans. They where yummy!! I will definitely go back soon to try more stuff.

I broke my "no Mexican food in Dade county" pledge to eat here because some of my acquaintances who live in Homestead have assured me that Homestead is the place to get Mexican food in South Florida. Let's be honest, most of the Mexican food in Dade (and even broward) isn't even mediocre... it's bad. This place is actually good. Not earth-shattering amazing or anything, but solidly good. If it were in LA or Albuquerque or Denver or Dallas, it would be a solid 4 stars, but here it is definitely a 5. Great chips and salsa and it's pretty cheap. It's nice to know I can get passable Mexican down here if a craving hits.

Very good, legit Mexican food. My boyfriend and I are both from New Mexico/Texas, so every time we're near Homestead we go for Mexican. La Cruzada was very tasty, and definitely filled our craving. The star of the meal for me was the salsas - three very tasty salsas with good heat. I got a burrito al pastor, which was good but not amazing. Flavorful, but a little fatty and one-note. My boyfriend got the enchiladas potosinas, which had chorizo and potato. The enchiladas were good, but the refrained beans were pretty salty. And the salsa, onions, and cilantro at the table made everything better. Altogether, not sure I would seek this place out again, but it was very good.

A great authentic Mexican place, the queso fundido was great with a nice little spice kick. I had the chicken burrito and was great as well the $4 beers are a great value. They give you several spice level sauces to choose from for your meal. A definite spot to come back again

Excellent food and excellent service! Everything is delicious and the tacos al pastor have the real taste of Mexican Tacos al Pastor! I definitely recommend. It and will definitely come back!

Yay finally we found a Mexican place in S Florida that I want to eat at--LOL. I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to Mexican food having lived in LA for 6 years but this place is definitely good and I would not be disappointed if I found it in that city either. I had the flautas place w/ shredded beef, rice & beans--they were really good, and the chips and salsa were on point! Finally found a place where they tasted right. The service is friendly and didn't seem to mind our kids, who were behaving poorly as they were fried having just left the race in Homestead. Thankfully (for us) there is outdoor seating. The prices are good and they give you a lot of food. I wish it was closer to us--I would come here all the time! I truly have not found a better Mexican restaurant in the area.

This place is soooo good omfg. I'm so stuffed but I can't stop eating cause it's so delicious. I got the carne asada quesadillas as an appetizer and they were amazing and as a meal I got a chimichanga and it was delicious and especially with the array of salsas they have. The atmosphere of this place is great and the staff is exceptionally nice and welcoming and incredibly polite. Definitely coming back

This place is the reason I have trouble trying any Mexican restaurants closer to me. When I think Mexican, my mind immediately goes to La Cruzada (and the rest of me usually follows)!! This restaurant has such an authentic feel. From the decor, to the music, to the actual staff, it's like being in Mexico without crossing the border. I usually (ok, always) have the chicken enchiladas in salsa verde. It is phenomenal! The dish comes with Mexican rice and refried beans that (my friends and I joke) taste like grandma made them. Everyone I've taken to La Cruzada is highly impressed and has loved what they ate. I highly recommend this place!

I love this place! Tacos El Pastor with pineapple are the best. Great salsa and chips. Very authentic and good service. Outdoor seating if the weather is nice. I highly recommend.

  • Jack D.

Meh, we really had high hopes based on the other reviews but we and it up being less impressed. The chips and salsa were the high point and everything beyond that seem to be more mediocre at best. I had the tempiquena which was cooked perfectly but lacked in overall flavor. The beans were not hot and everything was served on a metal tin which cooled off very quickly. I wouldn't rule it out but wouldn't make it my first choice.

Steak fajita and guac were okay. The rest of the food had no flavor and was something a dog might not eat. The server was rude and brought so many wrong things to our table. Never again!!

  • Samual D.

Be careful! It is customary in South Florida to get free refills on soft drinks and iced tea. Also customary to get free chips and salsa. This place charged $2 for each iced tea, and $3 for each basket of chips. It would have been nice for the waitress to have said something. Past that, the food was good, but not great. The service was on the slow side, too.

I wish this place was closer to Miami. Family comes out to Homestead twice a month to eat here. We're born and raised from the city of Chicago, and this is our 26th St 18th St treat. As far 8th St, Rinconcito is the emergency spot.

Excellent food! The best tacos and tostadas this side of Mexico! Highly recommended! Service was timely and friendly, too!

I have been going here for years. I overlooked the slow service, the sharp decline in the quality of the food, even the dead cockroaches. Today, something happened that I can't overlook. My dining companion and I were refused service because she has a service dog. The owner herself came to our table. My companion voluntarily provided her with full documentation and yet the woman firmly maintained that "these are our rules" and "some people don't like dogs." My companion explained to her that this is against the law and is the same thing as telling a paraplegic that they aren't welcome because the wheelchair might make people uncomfortable, and the woman had the nerve to laugh in her face as she said "I understand all of that, but these are our rules." Needless to say, I'll never eat here again, and I strongly discourage you from doing so. People like this only get away with such despicable behavior so long as the rest of us allow it.

You must try the guacamole, I saw a guy at the table next to me eating it and I just had to try it, so glad we did we all enjoyed it very much. La Cruzada is an excellent place with great food and friendly people even though I'm bilingual challenged we also seem to be able to communicate and I always leave satisfied. I usually have the steak burrito but I've never had anything there that I didn't like and the food always looks great.

Fantastic little Mexican taqueria! I had tacos carne asada and they bring all the fixings on the side: onion, cilantro, lime wedges, several sauces including the essential red spicy sauce and pico de gallo. My wife had caldo de res soup. Delicious! Cultural decor and soft Mexican music completed the experience. The menu has a lot to offer. I'll be back.

Absolutely delicious and a plethora of sauces. Perfect! I recommend the tostada's. Flavorful and authentic. Not a gorgeous local but you are here to eat. Head down and get to business. You won't regret it.

We were staying in a hostel in Homestead and were craving Mexican, so we headed over to La Cruzada for the weekday lunch special. Not hard to find at all with GPS. The taco accoutrements spread (complete with fresh radishes, cilantro, lime wedges, salsas, guac, etc.) was a nice touch, and the chips and salsa were tasty as well. We enjoyed our tacos, burrito, and enchilada. My favorite part was the horchata! So delicious. I have to admit - my stomach hurt for a while after, but that usually happens after Mexican..... We paid about $20 before tip, which was a bit more than I'd expected.

Naturally for authentic Mexican I head down to Homestead. I'm used to Toro Taco and the other place across from it. Something told me I'm in Homestead, there's gotta be better places. So I yelped and came across this one which had mixed reviews but pretty decent ones from my fellow elite yelpers. So off I went. Place wasn't hard to find, just drive by the very short downtown area and make a right on 4th street. Continue down and you can't miss it. The decor of the place on the outside makes you think you've landed on a cruise port in Mexico. The inside decor - wow. Now I really felt like I was in Mexico (which was exactly what I was going for). First walking in there's a cafeteria section for take out. But the place has indoor and outdoor seating for the restaurant. Ok, now for the food: The chips and salsa are delicious, careful though. The four sauces they bring you can be intimidating. Only the puree green one we found extra spicy, but great. We tried a sampler that had pork, meat and chicken tastings. All was delicious, so good we ordered extra taquitos of chicken cause it was that good. Washed it all down with canned (yes, canned) Modelos. Not a Corona fan. We were tempted to try dessert, so they offered us "palletas de helado" which is ice cream on a stick. An array of flavors but we tried arroz con leche and coconut. Wow - totally hit the spot! All of this for under $30 for two. Can't beat that.

I like this place okay? I like it a lot. No trip beyond Cutler Bay can end without stopping at La Cruzada and having some amazing food. I love their tacos! The meat is always tender and has amazing flavor. Order any of them really and you shall be pleased. I once ordered the chicharron in salsa verde not knowing what to expect and was blown away. The guacamole is also great! It is chunky and has little dots of tomatoes, yum! Sometimes they miss the point in the salt but it is never oversalted so that can be easily fixed. The burrito... Get out of here!! It is a meal that can last for three days... Maybe. Go! It is worth it! And the staff is so nice and the sauces are so good. Stop reading this and get in your car!!

I am a taco fanatic. Now living in Miami I have not found a taco place that I like. When we went to a Meetup this past Saturday. Someone told us to go to El Toro Taco Restaurant for some real Mexican Food. NO! NO! NO. It is Americanized. So being the great Yelper that I am. This place pops up. Ok great. It's only two blocks away. Two long blocks. We each had a taco de lengua, al pastor and asado. The taco de lengua was the best. It just melted in your mouth. Though the tortilla was hard. They brought us about 4 different salsa's. Salsa's were very tasty. Not as spicy as I like. But still tasty. We each had a Michelada. Wow! Need I say more. It was really good. We ordered a carne asada buritto to go. It was actually really, really good. I loved the fact that they had Ranchera music playing.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
