I have heard very much of El Toro Taco Mexican Restaurant by many people and by my boyfriend's relatives. Therefore, we made a plan to venture out to Homestead it is about 20 minutes away from my boyfriend's house and try the most famous talked about restaurant. Did not know that this restaurant is located in downtown Homestead with other Mexican restaurant and bars around. I was so excited when we arrived. This restaurant is medium sized and we were asked to be seated anywhere as soon as we walked in. Our waitress was very customer service oriented. She immediately brought the chips and salsa. Delish! The salsa had a little kick to it which we both loved. Next we proceeded to order our meal and drink. I ordered the Sangria Senorial which was non alcoholic Sangria. Awesome! I was not in the mood of anything alcohol therefore this was like a Sangria soda. In my mind, I drank Sangria! For an appetizer, we ordered the guacamole. My boyfriend thought that they were going to serve the pasty guacamole but no way. You could tell that the guacamole was freshly made with tomatoes and onions. Big Chunks that went well with our chips. What I believe that did not go is the tomato and lettuce salad that was served beside the guacamole on the same plate. I felt it did not belong there. However, it is healthy and I ate the salad as well. We ordered the Chimichanga which consisted of our choice of chicken, or seasoned ground beef, or shreded beef wrapped inside a flour tortilla and deep fried to a golden brown, topped with mild or spicy sauce and melted cheese. i ordered the ground beef and my boyfriend ordered the chicken on mild sauce. When they came to our table. Oh my! What plates. Did not anticipate they were a good portion with a generous serving of rice and beans. The sauce and cheese were good. The beef was ok good. Nothing to wow about but when I tasted my boyfriend's chicken it was great. The cheese on top was already melted. Too melted but it was great. The rice was great but the refried beans were ok but good. We both ate until halfway and had to take the rest home. Oh I almost forgot, apart from our entree my boyfriend ordered one beef taco just for him to try. All this time, our waitress was conscientious on how our experience has been and offered any help if we needed something. When we got our bill, we were amazed. It came out to less than $35. Our meal included one appetizer, two non alcoholic drinks, 2 entrees and one taco. OMG! What a bargain! The only thing that was missing from yesterday is that there was no mexican music as background music. Some medium volume mexican music would be a perfect touch to the ambiance. However, would definitely come back for another Mexican experience!!!

Really good Mexican food. But the place smell old, humid.

An old favorite Mexican restaurant. We like to stop here on our way to or from the Keys. Chicken Mole is fantastic and the same is true of the Pollo Loco Tacos. The guacamole is full of big chunks of avocado and the best ever!

Been going to this Mexican restaurant for about 9 yrs. BEST AUNTHENTIC MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN FLORIDA!!!! Very casual vibe. Very nice staff

This modest Mexican restaurant hits the spot with classic Mexican dishes that are fresh and piping hot. It's located way down Homestead way in the saddest little downtown area I have ever seen. But this place brings the happiness inside. I have been here twice, once last night and once a few months ago. To be honest, the first time was a revelation...there is good Mexican food in Miami! My expectations were high last night, and it was good but not great. Before I had tacos and loved them. Tonight it was enchiladas (one chicken, one ground beef, and one shredded beef). It was unexpectedly on the bland side. It came with the requisite rice and refried beans, along with chips and fresh salsa, which came promptly upon being seated. The service hustles, but they seem to be understaffed with a large server to table ratio. Interesting note: they don't sell alchohol, so you can bring your own cooler with beer or wine. They don't seem to have a problem if you bring your own water and coke too. It's a little strange, but it seems to work for the benefit of the customer. Head on down. This place is recommended.

The food was excellent, only two complaints, 1 they don't have liquor licence, and Mexican food without a margarita is depressing, and two the bathrooms smelled icky and the general atmosphere could use some revamping but it could pass for quaint if it was just a bit dimmer. That said I had the chicken mole and queso sauce and both were excellent!

The chips and salsa are quick and delicious, and while yes the main dishes for big groups take a little while to come out, they're fantastic, cheap, and huge. I'm tired of yelp reviewers whining about slow service when they order a $7.50 plate of delicious and generously sized enchiladas. And the deal-sealer for this place is that it's BYOB, which makes the prices even more of a deal.

Ah yes the famous B.Y.O.B. El Toro Taco. Food here is OK and the staff is always nice and the fact that you can save some cash by bringing your own beer is pretty cool. Just have to let you know to try the cheese dip, won't be let down.

Forget Taco-Bell!! This is the REAL DEAL! As someone who grew up in Homestead, I can confidently say that this is a classic Mexican restaurant, and the food is authentic and delicious as it gets. Worth a day trip from anywhere, having lunch here is a real treat. And the prices simply cannot be beat. Whenever I'm in town and craving Mexican, this is usually the first place I'll go. It's a simple bare-bones kind of place, but if you're like me and go for the food and don't care about the simplicity of the decor, this place is great. You can usually judge a Mexican place by their chips and salsa, and their salsa is fresh and excellent, chunky and full of flavor. They don't serve beer or alcohol, but customers are more than welcome to bring their own favorite adult beverage to enjoy with their delicious meal. Go, try this place out and thank me later!

I found myself in homestead one day (plz don't ask) and all of a sudden I heard that old familiar sound the rumble and growl of my hungry empty stomach. I quickly reached down with my left hand and pulled out the trusty Zagat book from my driver's side door pocket after fumbling through a bunch of junk and paraphernalia of course lol. I looked for the closest eatery near my current location and good ol' ebony (the name of my navi lol) sent me to El Toro Taco. When I first walked in I thought to myself hmm this place looks pretty cool. In my worthless opinion the somewhat rustic Mexican decor immediately told me this is one of those spots where your going to sit down unbuckle your belt and get ready for some serious eating. So hey, that's exactly what I did. I finally ordered the chicken mole (mo-lay) after several minutes of going back and forth between other options on their menu, the waitress was a big help and strongly recommended it. The complimentary salsa dip was ohhh sooo good and with just the rite amount of kick. I always forgo any and all appetizers with the thought that it just takes up too much valuable real estate in the tummy. As I waited for my meal I noticed an elderly woman sitting adjacent from me reading a paper. She had the look of a cook and I would of bet all of my personal belongings ( I don't have much lol) that she was the magician in the kitchen. As the waitress brought my food to my table I smelled it from about 12 feet away I think I even salivated a bit on my table lol. It smelled great and tasted even better, the Mole wasn't the best I ever had but it damn sure was authentic and tasty. It came with rice which I didn't even taste due to the fact that the portion of chicken Mole was literally spilling over the plate, these people feed you like your about to go out and work the field if you know what I mean. After my first several bites I looked at the elderly woman at the table and gave her the thumbs up and she asked " you like the mole" I replied no, I love it she said thank you and tipped her head a gesture oozing supreme confidence in her cuisine. OK let me cut this review short the food is good well at least the mole is the service is helpful I've only been there once so I can't say they are great on just one visit. decor is Mexican traditional/rustic. If your craving some Mexican and in Homestead this is a great place to go. BYOB Cheap prices accepts credit cards get your ass there !!!!

Friendly. Few vegetarian options. Boyfriend loved the beef tacos & tostada. The cheese enchilada were pretty good too but not amazing. I would go back to give it another try. The service was great and the atmosphere nice for the area.

Great food and atmosphere. You can bring your own wine or beer to the restaurant which makes it interesting to view all the coolers by the tables. Services is always good. Authentic Mexican food with some "Gringo" dishes.

Been here many times but it's been a few years since the last visit until today. Saw a good set of reviews on "Check Please South Florida" the other day so the place was on my mind. Then we ended up in Homestead today to hit Robert Is Here; so naturally we had a hankering for Mexican food. I'd be lying if I said they made a good first impression today--the first thing that hit me was the smell of that purple disinfectant liquid (if you live in Miami you know the brand). Then I noticed the total lack of locals and/or Latinos in there. Then I noticed the very friendly greetings from the staff. Wrongly or not, a lot of Mexican places are judged at least in part by the ubiquitous chips and salsa that is doled out for free before your meal. Chips ok--super crunchy but lacking flavor. Salsa...meh. I vaguely remember loving the tortillas the first time we came here probably a decade ago so I ordered tacos. Only four choices: ground beef, chicken, shredded carne asada and beans and served either on flour tortillas or "crisp fried" corn. Also meh. Mine fell apart really easily. The filling, though maybe not super authentic, was at least a little tasty. My husband got a veggie version of their "Jalisco platter" which was composed of a chile relleno and two cheese enchiladas. It was essentially a large plate of cheese sauce on cheese topped with melted cheese and red sauce. He said he liked it but didn't finish or choose to take over the left overs. Service was friendly and super speedy. At least their beverages were also enormous, and I have to say the portion size was quite generous. If we ever come here again, I would probably order a la carte and skip the rice and beans which I usually don't eat anyway unless they're outstanding, and these were not. Prices are average I'd say...$20 and change for the two of us. Not exactly cheap. For more authentic and tasty Mexican tacos I would probably rather hit Taqueria Merelia. The only reason we didn't was because they offer little or no vegetarian options. Alas the search for veggie friendly Mexican food in Homestead continues.

Hola, I have never been to a BYOB restaurant before but it is a great way to save CASH. I wish I knew a head of time, I would have rolled my igloo cooler filled with ice cold cerveza right in.....Wat da wat!? THEY DO NOT SELL ANY ALCOHOL but allow you to BYOB. Pretty cool but a little inconvenient. One lone senorita waitress doing her best to serve the WHOLE restaurant by herself on a Saturday night. After the initial shock of hearing the words"Sorry sir we do not sell any alcohol" I gathered myself together and focused on the menu. Not a bad menu but missing some items I usually see at other Mexican restaurants. Food tasted good and was fresh. Service was good once it was our turn. Staff (lack there of) was friendly. Atmosphere is a bit dark but I didn't need my cell phone light to read the menu. I would go again with my cooler of beer and some sliced limes for my Corona's, my Patron for some shots and my sambuca for an after dinner drink. " Ay yay ya yay"

The place is dirty... Chips are stale and bland. And the salsa is warm. Chicken Mole was nice. Dirty restaraunt, dirty kitchen... Not good. Oh... Chilli relleno was a mess. It looks like no chilli relleno cause is was soggy and buried under the cheese. Not coming back.

  • Stephanie D.

The decor is nothing out of this world. I have to admit when my boyfriend brought me here for the first time after picking strawberries nearby I was a bit scared. But when I tried to food I instantly became obsessed! The food is SO good. I always get the Tacos Locos with shredded beef and it is so good. The enchiladas are also very good as well as the quesadillas. This place is one of our favorites. When we are craving good Mexican we drive all the way from Weston to this place that's how good it is. Highly recommend.

Okay, so when you first walk in it is a little ubderwhelming. The decor is outdated and everything seems just a little on the dirty side. The service is almost non-existent. We ordered a chili relleno and chicken mole. The relleno was a mess. Soggy and buried under cheese. Flavor was meh. The mole was nice. Made with good quality chicken. Wish it had a stronger flavor, but not bad. The drink situation is ridiculous. No sodas on tap. No brewed teas. They have a few cans of drinks to choose from. Seems like an unnecessary negative. In the end, you take your bill to the counter... remember, no service. If not for the okay mole, we would be at one single solitary star. With plenty of other options, I can not see us EVER coming back.

El Toro Taco should be called El Toro Chimi!!! I don't know about their tacos (because I didn't order it), but their chimichanga is Toro-like in its size and attitude. A buff fried tortilla stuffed with shredded beef and topped with melted cheese and jalapenos! The chimi was the Mexican caballero who swooped me off my feet last Sunday afternoon! I hadn't been to El Toro Taco in years since my last experience (prior to Sunday) and I lived pretty far away, but I recently moved to the area and thought why not give this place another shot! My husband and I went at about 4PM last Sunday and it was empty. We sat at our table of choice and anxiously waited for chips and salsa since we were starving! Chips were crispy and fresh, but salsa was just okay and lacked flavor. We ordered the queso dip which was delicious full of jalapenos, chunks of tomatoes and the portion was enough to share for a party of four! You already know how awesome my chimi was and my husband liked his Fiesta platter which came with an enchilada, tostada and taco. The ambiance is a bit gloomy and the restaurant needs a serious face-lift. Maybe its outdatedness makes the restaurant seem dirty, but I honestly think its rustic appeal would benefit from a makeover! Service was okay, but then again, the restaurant was empty. Not a bad choice for Mexican in the area although I still have some Mexican soul food searching to do in Homestead. I still prefer my Pinecrest favorite Guadalajara (sister of Casita Tejas). Yelp needs to add half stars so I could have rated El Toro Taco a 3.5 out of 5! Adios Torito!! Tips: 1.) Bring your own cooler with alcohol in it. El Toro doesn't have his liquor license. 2.) Ask for the queso dip! It's great with not only your chips but also with your food! 3.) Order soda by the fountain, not by the bottle. 4.) If you have the option to order ground beef or shredded beef go with the shredded beef option... It's seasoned with a way better flavor!

The girls killed it! Man that was the best cheeseburger I may have ever had outside of home, no joke. Even when they were busy they took the time to great customers and explain the deal. We will def be back.

My opinion of Mexican food is biased due to the time I spent in Texas. So many try, and so many fall short. El Toro Taco is the best I've had in Florida. Priced right, friendly and attentive staff, great food. Not sure what more you can ask for if you're looking for some solid Mexican food after a weekend of binge drinking. It's a hell of a drive for most people, but hey make a day out of it..go pick strawberries or some shit afterwards. I will definitely return.

    (5)
  • Steffi M.

Delicious and cheap. 2 people with chips, dip, entrees, sides... 25$ had the chimi, omg. Def worth the drive. Byob, but the places across the street have cheap beer you can walk over with. Only down fall, think they needed more than one server for 15+ tables. And when I went into the bathroom, it was flooded with nast.

We love Mexican food and seek it out wherever we go. Being regulars at Taqueria Morelia and La Quebradita, we figured we'd do something a little different today and head over to Toro Taco. Shame on me! As others have mentioned, the parking situation is not good. There is on street parking but very few spaces. We ended up parking around the block where we encountered some very shady characters. Walk into the restaurant and find it moderately busy. It's dark and kind of gloomy. There are several water spots in the ceiling tiles and overall the restaurant looks unkept. It takes quite a while for our server to come to us and when he did I feared he might have a hypertensive attack as he was so short of breath and sweating profusely. We ordered the Queso dip, the bean dip and guacamole which they were out of. The dips were okay but nothing to write home about. Cannot compare to the queso fundido at Taqueria Morelia. I had steak tacos and flautas, neither of which were very good. My wife had the combination fajitas which tasted like pickle juice. The kids had burritos which they seemed to enjoy. The only item on the table that I found appetizing was the rice. I'm not sure what's in it, but whatever it is it's great. Needless to say this will be our last visit to Toro Taco as there are far better options nearby.

  • M. S.

Not sure what has happened. This used to be my 'go to' place for Mexican in Homestead. The prices have increased and though the portions have remained generous, the food quality and taste is gone. On street parking is not a big deal. You always find a space near by. The atmosphere is not up beat. The inside needs reno. So do the restrooms. On weekends, a mariachi group will wander through. Fun, if you can get a seat on the weekends. The downside is, usually there is just one waiter for 10 tables on weekends. And the other downside is the food taste and quality. There are other, better, Mexican restaurants in Homestead.

Awesome. Been here a ton of times never been disappointed. At all ll I will keep coming here over and over. Sometimes they take a bit to cook it all up, but that's cause its full and everything is made fresh.....

  • Irlenne L.

Second time here and service has not changed. Twice cannot be a coincidence. One server for 10 tables and the poor guys was so stressed out he was sweating. Sunday afternoon is supposed to be a busy time and having one waiter such a big area is not a good idea.

This is the best taco place of all. Indulge yourself in the chimichanga, feast upon those free chips and salsa. I love this place so much. I really can't drive down Krome Avenue ever without stopping here. Stop denying your happiness and make sure you eat here sometime. This place was also BYOB the last time I went so if you want your Coors Light with your tacos, bring your cooler in and have a fiesta in your boca.

  • Lacey C.

To be fair I think I ordered the wrong thing. I snuck in at lunch and the place was almost empty. I ordered a número uno and, brace yourselves, asked for a substitution. Nope, they don't like that--but she did counter offer me to change my unwanted taco into a second enchilada instead of subbing it for rice. I added rice as a second side to accompany my beans and hoped for the best. In the meantime they brought me some lackluster salsa fresca and the highlight of my meal: a mysterious muy caliente green sauce with chips. The sauce was incredible--nice and hot with a mystical buttery texture. I'm at a real loss for what's in it, but you can bet if they sold it in bottles it would be in my purse right now. I would come back but not for the yawn-worthy enchiladas. They did have authentic Jalisco style (I think) cheese, but the chicken, sauce and beans were all very monochrome. If you want to drop in, stop for dinner. Maybe it'll have a bit more atmosphere, however, it's byob.

Driving in Homestead and starving, we find this place and my husband loves Mexican food. I'm a little more nervous about eating in strange places. To my surprise, the food was really good. Not your regular American style Mexican food, this was very authentic and good. Service was good too. Don't expect fancy, just simple!

Delicious food with an authentic mom and pop feel. Waitress provided excellent service and very personable as well. Definitely a pleasant surprise considering I was a wee bit lost and starved. Will definitely recommend my friends stop at this place en route to visiting the Everglades.

We didn't come to this restaurant. We were planning to eat at the Chefs on the run next door but it was closed by the time we got here. I was pretty disappointed when I first saw the reviews on Yelp. However, it was too late to change to another place and we were starving. Anyways, we had Guacamole for appetizer. It was delicious! For entrees, we had the steak (last one from the menu) and a burrito. I have lived in San Diego myself for quite a while. I have to say the food here is authentic! I don't know why other people say this place provided them with the worst Mexican food. I am gonna give it a 4.

Excellent food....I don't know too much about Mexican food but I really liked the chips and salsa (delicious) and my chimichanga was really good same with my husband's taco salad....coming back for sure!!!! I will not give 5 stars because they have to take care better of the restaurant looks and parking is complicated but food and service was really good !!!

THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD MIAMI HAS TO OFFER. A mom and pop shop that really speaks in their food. everything is cooked excellent with an incredible authentic flavor. I've tried many Mexican restaurants and nothing compares to toro taco, it is now my weekly go to spot.

If you like simple, down and dirty Tex Mex, this is the place. Cheap, tasty, and freshly made. The ambience is nothing special, but you don't come here for the ambience.

    (3)
  • Duane S.

Had the fiesta platter. The refried bean were well seasoned. The tostado shell was crisp and fresh. The decor and atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. Good place to go to have some dinner conversation. The salsa that came with chips was horrible. Tasted like a can of stewed tomatoes withe some Chile and a cilantro plant thrown in. There was seriously a piece of cilantro three inches long and it wasn't garnish.

  • Hubert C.

The worse mexican food I've ever had in my life. We figured that with the high density of Mexican population in Homestead, the Mexican food would be great. This place has been around forever, so we wanted to give it a try. 1. The salsa was actually just water mixed with a pinch of tomato. You will not get any actual solid piece of anything on your chip. If you dip it, your chip will be coated in redish water. 2. The guacamole was gross. It was chucks of avocado covered in a preservative looking slim (think canned pears) with some lettuce and tomato on the side. 3. the burrito and the enchiladas looked exactly the same, and had the same tasteless flavor. It was also swimming what appeared to be velvetta cheese. I would highly recommend not coming here.

There's a reason that people travel over an hour to eat here. It's because the authentic- ness of this Mexican food will make you never want to go to Lime or On The Border ever again. Ever. Prices? Can't get any better. You're eating mega-tasty Mexican food for less than what you might spend at a food truck. Bring your own beer, they are totes cool with it. In fact, they will gladly bring you an ice bucket to keep them cold as your pounding a chimichanga.

After going to college close to Chicago, I became obsessed with finding delicious Mexican food in Miami. Toro Taco is definitely one of those places that people often would mention to me as the only Mexican place they knew about closeby. Due to this, I decided to give Toro Taco a chance and see what's up. Note: to be fair, I visited Toro Taco three times in hopes that I would change my rating but really, three stars is being more than generous. While the food that we had was okay and not horrible, their service was. On all of my visits we had to wait for an hour or more to receive our food in a restaurant that was practically empty. Waitresses never came by the table to communicate the delay, we were essentially abandoned. Also, when I visit Mexican restaurants, I'm in search of very particular dishes (eg, chile relleno and tacos de nopales, etc). Each time I visited, I would order the chile relleno and each time I would be told that they didn't have it that day. Boo, Toro Taco!

Came here again for dinner with a few friends! The queso dip is huge, comes in a big bowl, and is very creamy! A must-have! They also gave my table of five three bowls of chips. Very satisfying! I had the mole de pollo-- my first time having it. As our waiter said, it tasted very authentic. Not sure if I would get it again because I prefer the cheesier side of Mexican food, but I definitely enjoyed the mix of spices.

I'm a Miami local and Mexican but was so disappointed with this place. Everything is covered in cheese and very greasy. (Look at the people's pics if you don't believe me!). The food was ok but I was expecting the best in Miami Dade.

Awesome! This is the best Mexican place in Florida. We drive an hour and a half just to go eat here. We will not eat at any other Mexican restaurant now. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. It is evident that everyone that works there loves the place. This is a family owned and operated restaurant. The parking is limited, but hey - who doesn't need a walk after a big Mexican meal! Nothing bad here. And safely located across from the police station! Definitely give it a try if you are in the area. This is the most authentic I have ever had outside of San Diego. Great job senior Hector! Love this place. The Chili con Queso is to die for. Go get some cheese!

I continue to visit this local establishment at least once a month and I am in Homestead. The quality and service continue to be stellar. The lunch specials are unstoppable. this is by far the best Mexican food in South Florida, and possibly the Southeastern United States.

First off, if you are in a rush and do not have time to wait do not eat here. I have eaten here a few times and it always seems to take on avg. 20 minutes from the time I order until I receive my meal. With that said the food at El Toro Taco is quite good. I would not stretch and call it "authentic" but if you are craving Mexican food it will defiantly fill your craving. Whatever you order go with the shredded beef, cannot go wrong with that may option. I will continue to dine at El Toro Taco. Additionally they always have friendly service.

El Toro Taco is pure Mexican food magic. I've been here a few times now and they never ever disappoint. Without a doubt, you could pin the menu up on the wall, randomly throw a dart at it, and you'd score a winning dish. Some of my favorites include the chicken flautas and the enchilada sampler platter with barbacoa, beef and chicken. I could literally hang out here all day eating their crispy tortilla chips and pico de gallo chunky-style salsa all damn day. My only slight complaint is that they don't have a liquor license so you can't wash this delicious grub down with a cerveza or two. However, they are totally fine with you BYOB and anything goes. I've literally brought in a bottle of rum and was doctoring up my Diet Coke out in the open and they didn't bat an eyelash. There's not much going on with the ambiance other than some traditional Mexican artifacts, but the food more than makes up for any lack of fancy or flashy decor. Toro Taco is right off Krome Avenue in the middle of town. Their prices can't be beat. I highly recommend filling up on some flautas, bring a few Modelos to wash it down and head across the street to enjoy some karaoke at the Fat Monkey Bar.

We have gone to Toro Taco on and off over the years, and nothing seems to have been improved. Ever. It's just rather dingy. The big draw is that you can bring your own beer. But the food is just OK. There are so many other choices for Mexican in Homestead, I don't plan to return any time soon. Especially after doing a search when I returned home. Great food, but you will have to compromise for it with a long wait time. I came with high expectations because I had heard a lot of my friends say that they had a great experience here but unfortunately great-tasting food is sometimes not worth the 50 minute wait that we had to endure to finally get our entrees. the food was authentic and delicious once it arrived. I highly recommend this place if you have a good two hours to spare.

Enchiladas were ok but only average. The chicken suiza better than red sauce The chili relleno was terrible. It was a huge anaheim that was so hard I couldnt cut it with the horrible butter knife I had. It was fried alright but possibly from a raw state instead of pre roasted Beans and rice pretty average The portion sizes-huge!!!! Service staff are friendly.

Enchiladas with green sauce and tamales in red sauce. Delicious. Good and friendly service. It's a great stop along the way when touring the Homestead/Redlands area.

Worse service and food ever. Do not order the menudo!! It smelled so bad as if the tripe was not cured or cleaned (I'm Mexican, so I've had my share of menudo). And the tortillas were stale as if they were over microwaved. When I told the owner about the food, she didn't really care to hear the issue. There are way better authentic Mexican restaurants around in homestead. Don't waste your time or money at this place.

One of the best TexMex restaurants in South Florida. The chile con queso alone is worth the drive from Miami. The only negative is that you can't get a margarita with the meal. Otherwise, it makes me homesick for Texas.

Do they have good queso and chips? YES Are they fairly priced? Yes! Do they offer a wide variety of authentic Mexican food? YES. Should you come here? DOUBLE YES! I am a huge fanatic of Mexican food, and El Toro Taco definitely has the best Mexican food I have ever tried! I always order the burrito each time I go, and it is huge, thick, meaty, and a good meal for a good price. If you want one huge piece of advice, come on Friday. During the weekend, this restaurant gets a bit crowded, and when you have too many people to serve, quality is compromised. This place is very good, so definitely come on a Friday or during the week if it is your first time coming here. You definitely want to try it at its best. This location may also be far from other people, but the drive here is very relaxing considering that you are surrounded by farmland. The drive is a part of the experience, and it is a good way to destress after a long work week. And the adventure continues...

Why would anyone go to this rat infested roach motel of a restaurant?!?! Do any of you know how many times this place has been closed down because of health violations? restaurantinspections.lo… You still want more? Look up the Miami Herald article Death By Taco where the kep cooking their ground beef on top of the same flat top without as so much cleaning it. Is your health really worth this? You still want more? Take a look at their kitchen and how the doors are always open to whatever feels like walking in. If there was something lower than 1 star I would give it this.

The cutest sweetest server . Delicious food . The chicken enchiladas are the best . And chicken tacos are to die for . Best salsa in town and the Byob makes it cheaper to dine in since you don't have to pay for drinks . And again the best service !

While many rave about El Toro Taco's efforts at Tex-Mex flavor, it fails to impress my Texas palate. It is at best a facsimile of Texican cooking - they match the textures and the appearances, but lose the nuance of flavor. The food is sometimes overcooked, and often still tastes as if it came from a can. This is sometimes understandable for things such as refried beans or salsa, but unacceptable when it comes to chicken. Using a bit more coriander or cilantro while cooking, or perhaps a dash of pepper might also improve the otherwise bland dishes they prepare. As noted by other reviewers: they do not have a liquor license, and this establishment is BYOB. If you wish to wash your rubbery enchiladas down with a Corona, or wet your lips after a bite of dry fajitas with a Negro Modelo, it is best that you plan ahead and bring your own. This works best when you and a large number of folks gather and share. The waitstaff at this establishment have no difficulties with this, and are reasonably persistent and polite. Having been here with large groups a number of times over the years, I will compliment them on their service. They adapt well to large groups, and have made an extra effort to see to it that huge parties' orders are correct and brought out in a reasonable amount of time. The restrooms are reasonably clean, and are surprisingly so given how busy El Toro Taco can get. All in all, I recommend other more authentic Mexican establishments in the area - but El Toro Taco is decent for bringing large groups.

I moved to Miami from LA about a year and a half ago and have been on a quest to find delicious Mexican food, authentic and from mom and pop type places. Well, I think El Toro Taco checks all the boxes! Our table of 3 ordered the queso and guacamole to start, followed by enchiladas and tacos. Everything I tried was like going back to LA or Phoenix and eating at my favorite little spots. The spicy salsa was amazing and perfect add to the guacamole to give it an extra kick. The enchiladas were served hot and with plenty of melted cheese. I really wish it wasn't so far away so I could go once a week!

My first time at El Toro Taco. It was a great experience from the time we walked in.... and i had our bottle of vodka. Oh yes...its byob. Service was limited to the owner and his son. There was alot of people but young hector handled it. The owner is his dad...Mr. Hector. Personable would be an understatment...cant wait to go back.

I can't be dishonest and say that the food isn't good...it is. Owned and operated by a Mexican family for dozens of years, this corner spot in Homestead does deliver the delicious goods. The problems, and what kept me from giving a full five stars, are as follows: The service sucks. Negligent, rude -- you name it; they're guilty of it. The other problem is inconsistency when it comes to the salsa. Sometimes it's mild, sometimes it's medium, sometimes hot, and sometimes scorching-inedible hot. And the real problem is that the owners/management don't care. They know they're an icon, they know they're considered one of the best Mexican restaurants, so they don't care if you have a gripe with the service or food. It's not enough for a restaurant to achieve greatness; it should not rest on its laurels.

Nothing really memorable about this restaurant. It was not the best Mexican food. I ordered simple steak tacos and it lacked flavored. The service was decent. Prices were low. Would not go out of my way to stop in again.

They tried they're best and that is the important part :) Recently me and husband randomly went to El Toro Taco, when we entered the restaurant we got whip-lashed with a stench of Clorox and cheap floor soap, which i find uncomfortable to eat with the smell. When we sat down we obviously ordered 2 coronas....its a BYOB rest? i guess they don't have the alcohol permit. The food was ok...my husband ordered the fajitas which traditionally the meat is served in a hot skillet....did not happen. The server also told us no Guacamole available her excuse was that it wasn't in season. My husband has his own produce company and Avocados were in Season the time we went. No guacamole OR AT LEAST AVOCADOS no Coronas at a Mexican restaurant? NO BUENO

Homestead is home to tens, if not hundreds of Mexican restaurants, so I don't know how this one is still in business. The interior of Toro Taco has a funky smell, like chemicals or melted plastic, and it serves up completely unauthentic, greasy, bland "Mexican" food. The only two things this place has going for it are the location and the outside appearance of the place. Not a fan.

  • Sebastian M.

As for Mexican food in Miami, this is the place. It is a must for me to stop when I'm heading towards the Keys and on the way back. They serve traditional Mexican cuisine and the regular TexMex that you will find everywhere else.

El Toro Taco, El Toro Taco ya no puedo caminar. Estoy llenita, de comidita y no quiero ni hablar. {Translation: El Toro Taco, El Toro Taco can no longer walk the streets ( not in a "prostitute" way, In a "i'm totally full" way) I am fully of good foody and I can not even speak.} Toro Taco gives you a bang for your buck. And I like bangs. Complimentary chips n salsa, yes please. The salsa was chunky and you can tell it was fresh ( just like me). I would've preferred a bit more spice, cilantro and onion. In other words an entirely different salsa. It did do a good job of staving off those hunger pangs whilst I awaited my main dish. I ordered a combo platter chocked full of chicken breast. It consisted of enchilada, tostada and taco- Oh My! accompanied by some Mexican rice and re-fried beans. Open mouth, shovel in food. Chew, swallow and repeat as necessary. Delicious? Si senor! Cheap? In price not in flavor. Include a Jarritos de Pina and my tab totaled 12 bucks. I'm anxious to return and try other plates on their menu. I shall also be back with some friends and my own booze as they totally encourage BYOB-ing. Toro Taco is a place where you can booze, binge and be happy that your wallet still has girth. As they say in the old country "Barrigita llena, corazon contento" (translation: belly full, happy heart. that kinda sounds like a Spanish Yoda)

I've lived in the area forever & never gave it a try. I see you can bring your own beer.lol Came here for Lunch on a Sunday. Just a few tables were occupied. Seemed very authentic. I saw a young girl selling cupcakes(cute). We had the Chicken Nachos (messy) Glad they bring over Tortilla Chips& salsa to add to the Nachos. I hade the Tacos de Carne w/Cilantro & Onions Very Good. My sister had the Chimichangas. Out of Our Table of 4 only 2 were satisfied. Parking is located in the back. Might just give it another shot one day

Sadly, this did not live up to all my Mexican food dreams... however it wasn't bad, just OK. The service was fantastic, she was nice and attentive. I had high hopes when I looked in the food going out window, but it did not live up to my California and Detroit (shocking, I know but kick ass Mexican food there) dreams.... The salsa they give you is pretty much pico de gallo, nothing wrong with it... I don't think they make the chips there... not a hot mess that you can't eat immediately... bag chips (or shipped in or pre-made) automatically downgrades you... I do have to give them props for the green spicy salsa they bring you on request (you must ask for they spicy or they won't bring it). Great flavor, spicy but not too spicy (I wish it was hotter, but I'm a spicy freak)... so all you spice-a-phobes will probably be OK. In general, the food was pretty nondescript. The biggest downfall for them (for me) is that the Mexican cheese they use isn't my favorite. I like the kind that maintains some consistency and is a little more salty... the kind they serve here is the kind that turns the consistency and flavor of white Cheez whiz. It is a popular kind of Mexican cheese, but the kind I was brought up on is the other (maintains consistency and actually tastes like cheese and not "processed cheese food"), so unfortunately for them as soon as that cheese hit my mouth I was disappointed. Not the Mexican I anticipated. So, before I try other Mexican places in Homestead I'm going to try to figure out if they use the cheese I like. Otherwise, they will always pale in comparison to the places I love. At least I'm honest... it all comes down to fresh chips, quac, and the cheese.... not a fan of cheese that doesn't stay cheese....

Delicious authentic Mexican food. I went with my family randomly and loved it. The only bad thing I would have to say is that they took quite a while to bring the food and to refill our drinks. Other than those things, I definitely recommend it!

Went in on a Satuday night and was overall pretty bummed. Ordered the queso dip app per suggestion of a yelper below. It was served almost hot so that the cheese wasnt even melted! I wife's chicken tacos were pretty bland. Soda was served in a can with of course no refils ... that is a major no no for me. Somehow between the queso app, my plate, my wifes plate, tip, and a few Dr. Peppers, we spent $34 ... which was too much for the whole experience. I will say this though - my shredded beef chimichanga was awesome! If you go there I suggest it!

I went here on Sunday for lunch. We had high expectations, but were somewhat disappointed. That said for the price - $8.50 for a main course, it's a bargain. I had the ground beef taco platter. Portions are big - 3 tacos. However the crispy taco shells are pretty poor. They're too thick and while hard, they're not crispy enough. Also the trimmings were pretty basic. The refried beans and rice were fine. My friend had a steak taco. This was better, but the steak and the dressings were somewhat lackluster. It tasted pretty plain. Would be good for them to improve their sauces and seasonings. It's hard to complain at this price. However, I have been to better taco places. In fact I went to one the previous day - La Bamba II in Margate. Their tacos are superb.

I remember when El Torro Taco was a rough tough little place that no one would want to go to, the owners son Hector was a pain in the neck, and other body parts. But, as all things time passes on and Hector, who is now the owner of El Torro Taco got the capitalist bug, and turned the place into a terrific mom and pop place. This was a place to go to for years and years, lately there have concerns, mostly from the Miami-Dade County Health Department ( miami.everyblock.com/res… ) He turned El Torro Taco into a place to go, but I think that he's tired now, as I went back there and service was deplorable. I ordered a chicken burrito and it was cool, re-heat please and it took for ever. I asked for real hot sauce and the waiter never brought it. It wasn't the food, in as much the service was lethargic. Now I think that Rosita's in Florida City is leading the pack.

Let's put it this way, I live over an hour away from here and I would GLADLY make the trip to eat here again. My boyfriend and I stopped in here on our way home from the keys and we were amazed how good the food was. Everything was so fresh and full of flavor. Oh, and the white cheese that they top the dishes off with...OH MY GOD. Heaven. Can't wait to come back!

It was our first time at El Toro Taco, the food was excellent, but the plates took some time to get out. I was entertained by what looked like an old Mexican Western on the TV, although I couldn't hear the sound. The tacos were really good, and if you're coming here most likely you don't care about the ambience, which was nothing too special, just one big room with tables and chairs. I love authentic dining experiences, but I wasn't blown away like so many people had said about the Mexican food in Homestead. That said, I didn't try anything but the tacos, but based on that and the guacamole, I give them 4 stars, which is still pretty damn good.

Ok taco shop. Don't expect any refills on chips and salsa. They also have an absurd policy out of the 1980s banning refills on fountain drinks. Given that Taco Bell is your other Mexican choice in not so populous Florida City, this place is better than nothing.

I recently went to have a late lunch per recommendation of a friend. The place has a very authentic mexican decor and the food is definitely tasty and authentic as well. The only down side is that the food was a bit on the bland side, so some additional salt was required; the upside was that the food was served piping hot and with fresh ingredients. The service was ok, but it could have been better considering there were not many people. Overall, I would perhaps go whenever I am in the Homestead area, it is definitely not worth driving from Kendall for.

Don't let three stars fool you, this place is good. It's really famous for having no liquor license, so you are welcome to bring in your own cooler (or bottle of wine). Kind of fun. Now, about the food... Fresh salsa with lots of fresh cilantro is given to each table with warm chips. Very fresh and tomato-acidy. I like it. I also love when avocados are in season because they'll have fresh guacamole. It's darn tasty, not too smooth, not too chunky, just right. If you're going to order tacos, it's nice to order some queso dip and save some to top off your ground beef, chicken or barbacoa. (The barbacoa is their shredded beef, it's my favorite.) Tacos are plain, crunchy or soft shelled, and are topped with Queso Blanco, shredded lettuce and large-chopped tomatoes (which are always fantastic because they're grown right down the street in the Homestead fields)! For something a little different, try their tacos locos. Beef with onions and cilantro in a flour tortilla. Pretty good. They have your standard Mexican dinners like burritos, enchiladas, tacos, fajitas...and they also do an authentic mole sauce. Nice. Their rice and refried beans are nothing to write home about, but they do give you a generous portion, so you can enjoy the mundane just a little longer. One thing you might not know is that they're open for breakfast on Sundays. Huervos Rancheros, anyone? Now, that's a winner.

Ate here with the wife last week. Anytime we are in Homestead we make it a point to eat Mexican. I'm not Mexican but I've been to Mexico a billion times. I love Mexican food. I love Taco Bell too but on its own merit, it's not Mexican food. I digress. The food at this place is pretty authentic tasting. Does that make sense? Well, the price definitely makes sense. Toro Taco definitely serves some of the best and most tasty Mexican dishes in South Florida. I just wish it wasn't so far; either way, the trip has become part of the charm.

Originally, this was a 4-star review. However, the last time we went to Toro Taco, the barbacoa was a little dry and bland. BUT! I still like this place. Prices are great and food is usually good. I'm going to try the ground beef next time. My favorite part of the Toro Taco experience is the salsa. It's so fresh and yummy. *They charge for a second little bowl of the stuff, though. SIGH.

So when I moved down here to Homestead, I wanted to get my hands on some GOOD authentic Mexican food. There used to be a small hole in the wall place in Doral that has long since closed, and I have yet to find good Mexican food. On the recommendation of my brother in law, I came here for lunch on Sunday. Yes, the wait is a little more than what you'd get at a chain restaurant. So lets get down to it, the service was fine, maybe I went on a good day, maybe some reviewers are whiney babies that need attended to in the first 5 minutes. The food, I ordered the burrito and it was served enchilada style, it was HUGE and it was good, but it wasn't great. I left there more than full but neither disappointed nor overjoyed at the experience, something was missing, a bit more flavor? I don't know, maybe I expected more.

Okay we've arrived at my favorite Mexican restaurant short of being in Mexico. This place is as authentic as can be. This is a bring your own alcohol/wine & spirits type place, which is just AWSOME! This is the type of place you come out to after a long day of volley ball at the beach with a great group of friends, as that was our tradition just about every Sunday. Margaritas pre mixed into a large Rubbermaid pitcher like container, Corona's and a side of tequila shots just to complete the Mexican vibe. It really is like stepping into another country. Anyway whatever your heart desires to order from the rustic like menu shall satisfy your Mexican fix. My favorite, tacos locos as appetizer or entrée, salsa con queso....WOW, you too shall become addicted in the worst possible way, where you will try to replicate the dish, but find your fix can only be quenched revisiting this fine establishment. Last but not least is the burrito ordered as an entrée, this way you also get the rice and refried beens. So enjoy a little pice of Mexico my fellow foodies and don't forget your Tums, Pepto, and Zantac, you just might need it if you ask for their secret spicy sauce on the side because this nuclear concoction is just not worthy of the menu. Picante is most certainly an understatement. Ciaó!

OK so I've been coming here since I was a kid with my brother. This is the real deal people! This is authentic Mexican food and the bonus is the BYOB aspect of the restaurant !!!!! It is a small whole in the wall kinda place but the cooking speaks for itself. They have great chips and salsa and the queso dip is to die for! I had the chile relleno which was fantastic but everything on the menu is pretty great. The prices are super cheap. Only thing is go early because they close at 10 and it gets pretty packed at times. The owner Hector is always there and he is incredibly hospitable. I will definitely be going back over and over!

The best-tasting Mexican I've had in the Miami area so far, which isn't surprising since it's in Homestead, where the majority of our Mexican population resides. My friend Rebecca T. directed us here and I'm so glad. It's BYOB and there's a Winn Dixie down the street in case you need to grab another six-pack (which we did.) I had the Enchiladas Suisa and highly recommend!! It was also pretty crowded for Saturday dinner which is a good sign.

Stopped here for lunch today. Best authentic Mexican food in town. And they served Barbacoa tacos with creama and white cheese on top!! It was fresh and delicious! My spouse had the fajita tacos and they were just as delicious! the food is always hot and fresh. Highly recommended for families. BTW, how do you review a Restaurant without eating the food??? seriously?

    (4)
  • Zabrina G.

I'll be completely honest... the food is good and cheap (those are the 2 stars), our waitress did good for having a big group...the service at the end was horrible. We were there with some friends and asked the waitress before we ordered if it was okay to spilt the checks. The waitress happily obliged and said that it would be taken care of when we paid. We ordered our food, and when it arrived mine and my husbands were wrong but we had waited so long that we just took it. Then came the mariachis... awesome we thought. They played a couple of songs then one of them went table to table asking for tips. I don't know if that's standard practice for them, but I've never seen that done. Yes, I know that when there is live music it's strongly recommended that you tip, and eventually we would have... when we were ready to, like AFTER we were done eating however, I felt a little bit like my personal space was invaded during dinner. They didn't even stay for very long. They came in played two songs and wanted tips... I thought it was a bit awkward Dinner ended and the group stayed chatting for a bit. The owner kept coming up to out table and dropping hints for us to leave. He gave us the check for the second time, then he came back and asked if he could get anything else for us and that the check was ready to be paid. Finally we got tired of his dirty looks so we decided to leave. When it was time to pay he REFUSED to split the checks. We explained that we asked the waitress before we ordered to make sure it was OK and so she could split it easier. Again he REFUSED to pay and started waiving his hands around insisting that we hurry up. He was super rude and arrogant. Seriously, it was one of the worst experiences I've had in a restaurant. I most likely will not return, they are certainly not the only Mexican restaurant in Homestead... especially after seeing that they got 21 violations on July 7th from the Department of Health.

  • Elyse W.

This place has outrageously good bean dip. And it's BYOB. Seriously. You bring in a 6 pack and they rush you over an iced bucket. Mariachi on weekends sometimes, it comes and goes, but if you're not a fan and rather not tip the band, avoid El Torro on those days. It has a typical, eclectic, Mexican restaurant-type ambiance -- random knick-knacks on the wall and shabby furniture -- but it gives the place a certain charm. I've never been too impressed by the rest of their food, although I did have a pepper stuffed with meat which was memorable enough to mention. On a more sour note, this place has had it's share of health violations and some customers have had some serious cases of food poisoning: blogs.miaminewtimes.com/… But, I'm pretty susceptible to food poisoning and I've never had it here. But then again, I haven't been to El Toro since the whole scare over there started. But if you tell yourself that whole Guiness/rat myth enough times, maybe you'll muster up the courage to try this place out. And if you do, best place to park is to the left (if your coming from the north) of the restaurant, over the train tracks and to your right, where there's a long, narrow lot that's completely free.

Well, made the trek down to Homestead for Mexican. Let me start by saying that the food here was good. The salsa was homemade, the tortillas were homemade. Big pluses. The meat in our dishes - high quality, not always the case at Mexican places. The chicken in particular tasted the way chicken is supposed to taste, like they just killed it out back. The family that runs the place was so friendly with us. So why only 3 stars? I guess because I was expecting more authentic Mexican. The pollo en mole ended up being a red mole, which was good. But when you see pollo en mole on the menu you expect the chocolate kind of mole. I ordered tacos. Again, they were good. However, I have been to 3 different parts of Mexico and tacos are always the same. Small corn tortilla with marinated meat (al pastor my favorite) and onion, cilantro. Lime wedge on the side to squeeze on top, red and green salsa to add to taste. I have never encountered the Taco Bell version with lettuce, tomato, cheese. That's what you get here. And no carne asada or al pastor?! :( And no horchata?! The abuelita comes from San Luis Potosi originally, but moved to Texas. There is a definite Tex-Mex influence on the menu. Those calling this authentic Mexican are partially mistaken, there is plenty of Tex-Mex on the menu like nachos, and said tacos. The decor is typical Mexican. I want to give it 4 stars cuz the place is quaint and family run and they were so nice, but I can't.

El Toro Taco is a good mexican restaurant located in the heart of Old Town Homestead. It's been there for a while and while it isn't the greatest mexican restaurant, it does have some very delicious offerings. They also serve some hearty portions and the price is very inviting. The must-have here is the Bean Dip. It is, by far, the best thing offered in this restaurant and worth the 4 stars alone. The dip is a fundido of creamy oaxaca-style queso with habichuelas. One bite with your nacho and you'll be singing "volver, volver, VOOOOOLLLVEEERRRRR!" service is decent, and the manager is very nice and conversational. Good choice.

Dude where's the TACOS!?! Let me start by saying we didn't even eat there...I am giving this review based on the menu selection & service. So we walked it & they gave us menus at a table quickly...but didn't come back...not that we were there long, but long enough to read the menu. So I am going to have to rely on my "Horchata y Taco" theory...if they don't sell 'em it ain't real Mexican! So are you serious....a place with taco in its name only sells 1 or 2 max platters with a taco option of chicken or beef?!?! And no horchata & really just very generic Tex-mex options! So what you want a cookie for making a Chile Relleno!? So we got up & left! No one even stopped us. The sad thing is they probably thought we thought it was too Mexican for us & it wasn't American enough..HA! So go down the street to "La Cruzada Taqueria"!!! Real Mexicans make Horchata!

We were told we had to eat here for authentic Mexican food in Homestead. It was a group of 5 and we got there for a late lunch/early dinner and the place pretty full. The food was actually pretty good but I wouldn't say the BEST mexican food. It got 4 stars. However, the service was horrendous so that got 1 star. After we sat down it took a good 15 minutes before we could flag down what seemed to be a bus buy to take our order. We were starving so we luckily got our appetizer of guacamole and chips fast but our food took another 45 minutes to come out. Once it was out we were happy, but geez by the time we got our food the restuarant had emptied out. We had the beef and chicken enchiladas, fiesta platter, tacos and a soup (forget which one). The whole bring your own beer/wine was a nice touch. Doubt I would come back though.

First, it's easy to find, not far from the freeway, right across the street from the Homestead Police Station. Which leads me to my second point: it's in a safe neighborhood. Third, the cops were eating here too so you know it's good. Fourth, they are nice. I asked to sit near an electrical outlet so I could charge my iPhone after hours on the road yelping for decent food. The hostess agreed to seat us in a closed section so I could recharge, but instead I'm writing to tell you this now, that's how good it is. Fifth, it's a LOT of food, as in feed-the-world amounts of cheesey-chicken goodness. After I had eaten my weight in quesadillas, there was still a small mountain of leftover food (see photo). Sixth, the queso was so good it made me cry. I had the appetizer called Pinata Plate, and I now know why it's called that: someone please beat me with a stick because the explosion would be a welcome relief right about now. Boyfriend had the Jalisco Platter, and I'm not sure how big the state of Jalisco is, but I'm quite sure the platter is bigger.

Now, one of my yelp friends reminds me that I have not had Mexican food in Texas but I have in Mexico. I have been going to El Toro for at least 20 years. I will admit I have had better in Mexico and the Mission district in San Fran but NONE BETTER IN MIAMI!!! BYOB to this spot and enjoy an old school family restaurant. Simple food but worth the drive.

The kids that work there are very unprofessional. Perhaps that's normal but didnt make for a good experience making an order and the staff was "overwhelmed" in a half-full restaraunt setting. So that doesn't qualify for 5 or even 4 stars. The only reason I am giving one star above a two was that the food was very good and one member of the staff apologetically said they were backed up and will get my food out very soon. That was very nice of him, thank you. I went on a Saturday at 5pm, I would like to try one more time to see if it's better on a slower time.

Not sure if the other reviewer went to the same place I went to.... The food here is super cheap and muy delicioso! If you're ever in Homestead for anything, stop by Toro Taco! If you are in the mood for a drink, you can bring your own beer and wine. Don't expect fancy- but you can expect delicious Mexican meals that taste very authentic. Ole!

El Toro... Should I be scared? On one of the coldest Sundays possible this year I woke up CRAVING guacamole and ice cold beer. Go figure. Considering the fact I am a bit exhausted with the prices at Rosa Mexico my friend and I decide to hit Homestead for some great "authentic" Mexican food. There are several to choose from in Homestead but I am assured by m y friend that he knows which one is the best and it is El Toro. Ohhhhh, I'm excited and wonder if I should be scared?!?!?! As the blood is flowing through me with extreme fury I can taste the guac and beer on my buds.... As soon as I walk in I notice that the restaurant is pretty packed. So, for an effin cold Sunday this place has it going on... I smile as I try to contain my excitement. We are seated right away and immediately I ask "an order of guacamole please and what beer do you have"................. "WE DON'T HAVE GUACAMOLE TODAY AND WE DON'T SERVE BEER" $%@#!@gosh darnit! Anyways we stay and order. -tamales -vegetable quesadilla's -cheese bowl (or something not really sure) -carne asada (meat and potatoes plate that looked like alpo) My favorite was the cheese bowl and the quesadilla's were pretty good too. Note the white cheese used. I loved it; the cheese. Oh and the chips were pretty good too. The food was average and would I drive all the way back here again to come to this restaurant? No. Next time I will try another place.

Seemingly authentic Mexican food. The ingredients are top notch and the owner works the register and chats with the clientele. My gf got steak tacos and I got a burrito platter. I think you have to tell them everything you want on it, or they just serve you the meat and tortilla. The steak tacos were really good and fresh- served with onions, fresh CILANTRO, and tomatoes that weren't soggy. We ate a lot and didn't feel sick afterwards like most other Tex-Mex restaurants.

Cheese salsa dip is awesome. I always get the enchiladas, burrito is awesome too. Just an overall great Mexican restaurant. Haters like to claim it's not "authentic", they're just mad cause this place is the bomb, there's a reason everyone goes.

Stopped here on the way out to the keys. Good prices and great portions the food was only so so. Other than that good location and nice atmosphere, I just wish it wasn't across the street from the cop shop, they were everywhere looking at our party all crazy. It's a nice place to come to once maybe, on my way out of the keys I stopped at Popeye's chicken down the street instead.

This place is so cute and has really good food, prices are very reasonable and the portions are good, and it's BYOB. I ordered the fiesta platter; it came with two quesadilla's (your choice, I had the spinach and mushrooms), nachos and a cheese sauce. The cheese sauce was amazing, it made the platter, now don't get me wrong the quesadilla's and nacho's where great too. The service is a little slow, so when you go don't be in a hurry, just go and have a great time and great food. On the weekends I hear they have a mariachis, so I will have to go back, oh darn.

I have been waiting to try this place for years finally the blue moon appeared. Walked in or actually u wait to be seated funny for a Mexican place. The waitress was nice but not attentive enough we were never asked or served water and the drinks-jarritos were warm. There were chips and salsa to start out off with, the salsa was amazing just the right mix of ingredients not too spicy or watered down just right. Unfortunately it went downhill from there, we ordered loaded nachos and guacamole, they ran out of guacamole yes ran out of guacamole in homestead were I just passed hundreds of avocado stands on the way over. Ok the nachos not bad but nothing to write about so I won't. We finished our order at exactly 3:09 how do I know? Cause I was texting my gf how excited I was to finally eat there. I ordered the classic "el burrito" I expected sour cream, guac, negative on that get this she explained we don't put anything in the burrito that would melt due the microwave process. 3:49 the food came I'm thirsty no water, asked for a jarrito twice now. My plate had a long burrito swallowed by a top layer of flowing cheese and some sort of oily red fluid, the rice was dry and bland and the beans lifeless no soul whatsoever. I was very disapointed with toro tacos the best thing was the salsa I guess the trick is to get full on the delicious salsa to avoid getting into your main dish. FINAL VERDICT: will not be eating there again

I can't count how many times I've eaten here and I have yet to be disappointed. The staff is friendly and polite, the owner is down to earth and personable and the food is awesome. I highly recommend the Chili Con Queso, followed by the Chimichanga platter. Come hungry and be advised, although they don't serve adult beverages, they do allow you to bring your own libations and don't mind coolers provided they aren't too big. For those of you who like a little kick, ask for some Picante Verde on the side. A little dab'll do ya. The only down side I've yet to see, is the huge crowds on race days. I also cannot comment on the deserts as I haven't had room after the appetizer and main course, which I usually can't finish.

This is THE Mexican place to eat. I am in the habit of making the 80 mile drive for a bite of their Chile Reino con Queso. The place is BYOB, but there is a little market next door where you can buy your Corona's. The serve can be slow, be sure to order the free chips and salsa to hold you over. Careful of getting appetizers, because the plates are huge and there will be just too much food. Other menu item to note is their stewed beef known as Carne Guisada.

One word: Yuck! I don't know how this place made it into Zagat's. I could describe how bad the food was, but frankly, I don't want to relive the experience. Let's just say grosser than Taco Bell, by a long shot.

So, I was told over and over again how this place would rock my world. The Mexican food was super authentic and delicious. Uh, nope. The food was not tasty and I have had much better Mexican in the restaurants in Little Havana.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Homestead, Fl. Located on Chrome Avenue across from where the Homestead Police station was. Nice size restaurant with two rooms filled with plenty of tables and chairs. They have No Liquor license bit you can bring your own Beer! Which is pretty cool. Saves you money and they can bring you ice and a bucket if needed. I have had the chicken quesadilla, the carne con queso, and guacamole to start. The chicken quesadilla is made with shredded chicken, queso, salsa, and is made in a flour tortilla. Comes with lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. Simple delicious. The queso is hot and gooey with jalapeño and carne mixed in. The guacamole is freshly made. It's chunks of avocado not that blend stuff you usually get. Then for my main course I have had the chimichonga, chili relleno ,and the fajitas. The shredded beef chimichonga is my favorite. The beef is perfectly seasoned and is juicy and tender. It's in a fried flour tortilla cover in sauce and cheese. I get it with the rice and refried beans. The chili relleno is filled with your choice of filling. It's a pablano chili stuffed, battered, and fried. The service is usually fast and staff is friendly and bilingual.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
