This review is based on my two visits at V & G Caribbean Take-out Restaurant. First visit: Last week I came by and ordered the $4.99 curry chicken lunch special. People with island accents were steadily coming in. I don't blame them, this was my second time eating here and I have yet to complain about the food. I received my food and a small lemonade within five minutes, then proceeded to devour it as soon as I got in my vehicle. The curry chicken was cooked with potatoes, and was served with rice & peas and steamed cabbage; which was deliciously prepared. The chicken was tender with a mild curry flavor. Now I'm not a big chicken eater, but I really wanted more of it. The rice & peas was nice and soft. I thought the cabbage could've cooked a little more. It was too crunchy for me, but I ate it anyway. Second visit: After the heavy downpour of rain diminished, I entered V & G Caribbean to get some food. The lunch special was done, so I decided t get a small stew beef for $10.99. Man, I picked a hearty dish this time. Nice thick pieces of beef, which was cooked very tender with carrots and butter beans in a savory sauce. After picking out a few thyme sticks, I tried the rice & peas, which was nicely cooked. Oh lord, I'm eating two different kinds of beans (butter beans & red kidney beans), plus cabbage. I hope I don't start farting up the place. Speaking of cabbage, it was cooked better this time, not so crunchy. I felt better now that my belly was full. I will definitely return, but for right now, I'm going to take a break from island food and have my taste buds venture somewhere else.

So my husband and I read that this was a great place to eat, but when we tried to eat there tonight, we were surprised to see they were closed. It was 7 pm when we pulled up. On the door and the website, it says Mon-Thurs open until 10pm and on Yelp, it says open until 8pm. We called the number and looked at the door to see if there was a sign but there was no explanation as to why it was closed. Very sad and disappointed because we were so looking forward to trying what seemed like an amazing restaurant. I will give this place a try later, and update my review, but as of now it's a 1 star in my eyes because you don't advertise a closing time and then close early without an explanation as to why.

Best jamaican restaurant! Just finished chowing on some jerk chicken and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have picked up meals about monthly for the past year. They do not disappoint. I love the rich flavor, kick, and spice.

homemade ginger beer. mercy. so, i've had caribbean food a bit, and wanted to try something other than the jerk chicken, oxtail, or goat that can be gotten elsewhere in the US. i looked up at the menu and saw "conch." i've never had conch...what the hell, here i go... i was corrected on my pronunciation (i said the "ch" as in "chair" instead of "ch" as in "mach")...now i know. i was politely informed that the conch needed 20 minutes before it was ready, and i gladly waited to try the ginormous curried snail. 20 minutes later, this large plate full of rice, peas, curried veggies and delicately fried conch stared at me...wait, i thought i ordered the small size. this is the small size? holy goodness. at first, i was disappointed that i wasn't getting the familiar BAM i was familiar with from jerk chicken or goat curry. 10 minutes later, the plate was empty...the freshness of the veggies and delicate yet strong flavor of the conch made me forget all about jerk spice.

Ms Vaneita is awesome. I met her last year when she was out passing out flyers. Because I love Jamaican food, I got in my car and headed over, but not for lunch - for breakfast, just to see how good she really is. I was pleasantly surprised. When I bit into my order of callaloo and saltfish - WOW! Not greasy! And I suspected that the callaloo was fresh. She when I returned a few days later and asked her, she confirmed that, yes, they don't use canned veggies. I love that. So, she is one of my favorites in the area. In fact, I stop here regularly for breakfast and had the BEST cabbage and saltfish I have EVER tasted - even on the rock . . . Good food - great prices - good people. V&G sees me 2-3 times weekly; no need to cook when I can swing by and pick up all my favorites for such a great price. One note - like any Jamaican restaurant, they will close early if they run out of food! So, don't get bent out of shape about it. Just making a note of it, as we in the States sometimes forget that this food takes time and preparation; and once its gone, its gone. Til Tomorrow. LOL. Enjoy!

This is one of those hole in the walls with great food. The prices for lunch are super recession friendly. 4.99 gets you jerk chicken , curry chicken or brown stew chicken , rice and peas or white rice, some salad and small lemonade. Add another dollar and you can get stew beef , curry goat or slice king fish escovietch. I go for the Jerk Chicken every time , but I will be exploring the menu as time permits. They also have home made Jamaican beef patties and a great selection of drinks. The food here has a nice kick so make sure you try it before trying to be all cool and adding more hot sauce ;)

Better Caribbean food than I had in the Caribbean. Seriously. The jerk chicken is amazing and their homemade ginger beer is the perfect complement. The service is probably the friendliest of any restaurant I've ever visited. Not forced, just genuinely friendly conversation. I stayed and chatted until I had to leave and wish I could have stayed longer. Great people, great food. Make a point of visiting if you are anywhere nearby.
