3.5 stars. First visit was great. Our waiter was phenomenal. The manager was also super friendly. Drinks are a great value and you only need 2 to feel good LOL. Everything was delish. Wish they had more vegetarian options. Their house salad came in a cool mason jar and it made spreading the dressing so much easier. Second visit was a different story. Different lunch menu. Food not as good. Pizza was cold and soggy. Salad (same one I was told I ordered the first time) was with less ingredients and NOT in the mason jar. They automatically add 18% tip even on take out. I know it's customary but on my first visit I would have left a 25% tip and on the second the bare minimum of 15%. Oh, one last thing, they are located in front of the water taxi and I inquired about it and not one person would give in any info on where to take it, where it goes, etc.

Convenient when staying at the diplomat. Nice intracoastal waterway views. Food was very good and large drink selection as well. Price was fair for food but drinks were high. Would recommend and definitely go again if in the area.

Rivals was a great restaurant to go to since we were staying at the tides across the street. Though the location is tough to find since you have to go over the skybridge into another plaza area so look for signs. When we first walked in the waitress said we couldn't get inside because the place was reserved for the night even though there were only a couple of people with plenty of open seats. We sat outside in the humid hot sun and were sweating crazy. Service was slow to begin but picked up speed once we ordered our food. I got a regular cheeseburger and it was spot on! Hit the spot! The fries were great too! Food was great and delicious but wish we had gotten an inside seating. Would come back to this place next time on vacation.

Lori fenandaz made me the most awesome mojito ever. Tequila jalapeño minto. I can't say enough. Awesome.

I wanted to give this place one star, but I gave it two since the food was edible. This was across from our hotel and it seemed like it had potential but we were sorely mistaken. We went there for Monday Night Football and there were only 3 other people in the entire restaurant - three for MNF at a sports bar?! I ordered the fried mac & cheese and they were just OK. The waiter was less than pleased that he actually had to serve us. This place was just awful. Really the whole area there needs some work it seems like great space just going to waste when it's just crying for a froyo place and martini bar with little shops around. You'd think with the number of condos and hotels in the area that spot right on the water would thrive.

We came here not quite realizing it was part of the hotel and we didn't really have any other options anyhow. This place is such a rip off. The food is actually pretty good but WAY WAY WAY overpriced. I had the fish tacos, which again were delicious, but were $16! Seriously? $16 for TWO tacos and some chips??? fucking rip off!! My buddy had a $16 burger that he said was really good but not worth $16 and we each had beers that were about $5+ Again, good food and the layout was good but way over priced. Not to mention we sat down at the bar and were not even acknowledged for at least 10 minutes so the service was crap. Will make sure not to return here the next time i'm at this hotel, luckily that wont be til next year.

Service was great. Food was not good. Everything was overly salted to the point where you could barely eat it.

Waited 20 minutes, nobody cared enough to ask if we wanted an ounce of water at least... 30 min goes by and at least waiter looked at us )) On 31'st minute I am writing this review and running the F.... Out of here !!!!! This message is brought to you by: Avoid this F..... Place at all cost !!!

Rivals is as good of a sports bar as any other. Being off the beaten path (Underneath the parking garage, down the staircase, towards the water...) it is hidden and unless you know that it is there, or you are there for a company function, then you probably would not go out of your way to find this place. An additional reason that you might find yourself here is that you are staying at the Westin, and this is the only place open that is within a short walking distance. I stayed at the Westin as a mini-honemoon before the long trek to Hawaii. Wandered into Rivals a bit after 12 am and as gar as sports bars go, this one is on par with any other: huge bar, high tops, tables, several televisions, pool tables, you know the usual. The only complaint that I had was that there was no one else there to converse with except the bar tender (yes, my wife was there, but at a sports bar, part of the fun is engaging with other patrons isn't it???). Maybe the time, maybe the location... The service was great! The food was decent for a sports bar - I mean if you were expecting the Forge you only set yourself up for disappointment.

I went to rivals tonight to watch the NBA playoffs. From the moment I got there I was greeted by very competent hostesses. We ended up sitting at the bar and were served immediately. The drinks were perfect. We ate the chicken wings and sliders they were amazing. While we stayed and watch the game the manager had come over to us more than one occasion to see if everything was okay and if we needed anything. The staff was friendly and very attentive. I will definitely be coming back here again and telling my friends about it. This place should should advertise locally most likely they will get a large turn out once people see what type of place it is. l

Great food! We went there on a Saturday night and were seated right away with a view of the water. Our waitress was very professional and friendly. The grilled cheese and tomato soup were amazing!

I kept it simple and ordered a Chicken Fajita. It tasted great to me! I was staying at the Westin Diplomat so it was perfect to just walk over and grab a quick bite after a long flight. Atmosphere- If you are wanting to watch sports this is a great spot. They have televisions all over with in every table view, full open bar, and a pool table in the front.

  • Shel B.

And while I adore the Westin Diplomat and a Splash bar so much, this sports/ bar is somewhat out of place. You will truly need to open your eyes to find where they are located, far from the hustle and bustle ,all the way in the back/parking garage across the foot bridge . Am I specific enough? Pricey for a sports bar, I ordered the surf and turf which is a splurge for a sports bar. The flavor is bland, not worth for what I have paid for. The service could have been better as well , we were seated at the patio with some other guests. The decor is nice though.

Very good. It was cold when we went but I can only imagine how awesome this place would be if you could sit outside. The food was so good! Think upscale sportsbar and even though someone else reviewed this place complaning about kids, I thought this place was kid friendly and our children enjoyed just as much as we did! Good spot!

We come to Hollywood about 3 times a year and every time we do, we make sure to walk over to rivals for a visit. Sure, there is a hotel upcharge, but the bar food and cocktails are also a step up from your regular watering hole. The burgers are made of kobe beef, the fries are laced with truffle oil and the martinis (notably the basil martini) are certainly elevated. But the best feature of this place is the view- overlooking a peaceful section of the waterway, it certainly puts you in a vacation state of mind.

Walked in and hostess was on phone for several minutes without acknowledging me. I finally said I would seat myself. She huffed and asked The person on the phone to hold on. She said I could sit at the bar. I said I don't drink so I would rather not. She huffed again and said fine (with tone) and grabbed one menu didn't ask if I had anyone else with me and seated me have a two-person table. If it definitely made me feel like a persona non grata. Talked it over with the manager which was very ineffective also. I was always taught in business that the person in front of you was the money to be made not the person on the phone who might never show up. The Service frankly is poor. Via mysterious loud and you can hardly hear the person sitting across from you

Great if you like hanging out with middle aged bald dudes(and I mean ALL DUDES here) that are shacked up at the diplomat for some business related bs. Had the Thai wings. Horrible. Dry. Way too much herb added. Had to request an extra bucket of the Thai sauce and add a bucket of ranch dressing just to quench my thirst. I live in Hallandale beach, and this will be my first, and last visit. On a positive note, I did get to hang out with the Bar Rescue crew, ironically.

I wish there was less than one star. I don't recall being at a bar where the staff was more rude. We're staying at the Westin and wanted to watch the NASCAR race somewhere other than in our room. Rivals was less than half full (maybe closer to 1/3) and all of the televisions were tuned to football. (A few were turned off.) We asked for seating near a television that could be tuned to the race, and the host curtly informed us "we don't have it." I've never been to a half-full sports bar that couldn't switch one television over to a race. We got the runaround from a few more rude staff members & walked out. It's not like today is the Super Bowl. In fact, it's the beginning of football season, the END of racing season. Is one of the unused televisions really too much to ask? I can't comment on the food or service. I'll never know because I won't be back.

People write reviews on this site in hopes that they may somehow sway the opinion of those who choose which establishment that they give business to. In the case of Rivals, I'm almost certain it's a moot point as it seems the majority of patrons at this place are essentially those who stay at The Diplomat. In short, Rivals is a tourist trap. But I'll still give it a go, and maybe someone will be able to avoid a miserable experience. First off, the service. Although the waitress we had was very pleasant - the biggest issue we had was with the hostess. She was simply not very accommodating. It was cold so we requested to sit outside. She stated there wasn't any room. I pointed out an empty table right next to us, but she said it was "reserved". If you've ever been to Rivals, you'll know that it isn't a reservation type of place. Half way through our meal another hostess sat a few people next to us, and they requested to sit outside. Sure, she said.. We have a table right there. On to the food. We've been to this place about 3 times over the course of 5 years. In the beginning it was "ok". Nothing to write home about, but the location is convenient for us, and the food was decent enough. Well, that changed. The menu has been truncated. There are far fewer things than there used to be. We had fried calamari, which was basically pieces of fried batter with the tiniest bits of calamari, and fried lemons which seemed to significantly outnumber the calamari. The Mahi Mahi sandwich was just atrocious mush. The fish was bitter and tasteless - it basically went untouched. The wings were alright, but.. They're wings.. Not much to mess up there. I won't get into the high price since it is after all part of the Diplomat which is an expensive hotel.. But stay away, or just come for a few beers and wings to catch a game. They're good for that. This is our last visit to this place. On the way out three hostesses were conversating next to the exit, not one bothered to diverge from their enthralling conversation to say anything nice to patrons existing their restaurant.

Above average sports bar with great drinks, amazing wings and a big variety of food on the menu. Nice waterfront bar across from the westin diplomat. Cheery and fast service. Inside a million tvs with sports sports sports and a game room. Outside was nice with the kids.

We did not read reviews before our visit. We noted the Westin Diplomat will be becoming a Hilton. Nice hidden place on the Intracoastal waterfront. TV, Pool Table scenery inviting . Hostess available and asked if we wanted a table or the bar. Sat at the bar. Upon seeing the menu we decided 1 beer each Coronita Draft 3.25/each and 1 order of Fish Tacos $16.(first time trying fish tacos). They arrived with a very pleasant bartender/server Christian from Romania. This guy knew service. He kept us well attended and we talked about everything under the sun. Tacos were adequate for fried fish with nachos but agreed overpriced at $16. With two beers and gratuity already added (thank you Christian for pre-noting this when the bill arrived) We paid $28 for 2 drafts and an order of fish tacos. Only negative was the price on this visit, NYC prices in Hollywood, Fl.

Calamari had fired lemon in it? Has the chef actually tried this dish as he was conceptualizing it? The waiter was more concerned with basketball game than us, we had to keep searching for him the whole night. Then he managed to screw up our check. In this event, we were met with an attitude of "show me!" and "I am just a human." Are you serious? Locals, this is a nice place, clean, great area. But consider coming only for a beer, sit at a bar and be prepare to pay $10 for parking. This is for hotel guests, not for us.

For a "sports bar" they have a very limited menu. The basics (burgers, sandwiches, etc) but very limited options. Part of the Westin Diplomat hotel, and like the hotel, very expensive. My Greek Salad with grilled chicken was good, but nothing to rave about. The service was fine, actually better than fine, it was very good. Wait staff was quick and responsive. Also a good location. You can eat outside overlooking the IC Waterway, or inside by a window and still overlook the water. My biggest disappointment was with the limited menu options and the higher than normal prices.

    (2)
  • Rob R.

Decent place for a beer and some bar food. The menu is small but lots of options. Quality was better than the average "sports bar". Cool view. Good beer. Great spot.

Rivals is not a sports bar! Rivals is an overpriced tourist trap with mediocre food. During the NFL playoffs yesterday the manager refused to play the audio for the game and instead played loud music. The place was dead and the few patrons there asked for speaker boxes to hear the game but none of the boxes worked. This place has a ton of potential if it was managed properly, great location and somebody invested a lot of money in the under utilized amenities (many tv's, billiard room, theater room, great decor, captive audience (Diplomat guests)). It's a shame it is so poorly managed.

  • Shannon L.

We came here for dinner while staying at the Westin. After reading the somewhat terrible reviews, we were shocked that our meals were actually pretty delicious. We had overpriced but excellent burgers and fries, and were completely happy with our meal and the service was excellent. If you're expecting gourmet burgers at McDonald's prices at the WESTIN, well, you're just silly. Or maybe just hungry.

  • Seidi W.

This is on the water, and had nice outdoor seating. Food was just OK. You are paying for the location. Had a rivals salad, nothing memorable about it. Husband had fried calamari, and he said it was just OK. Being in Florida you want super fresh fantastic seafood! Wine list is terrible for a chardonnay drinker unless you plan on ordering a bottle. Wines by the glass for chardonnay only had 3 low end wine options, they could use updating.

  • Rusty R.

The Chimay on tap is great the female staff is not helpful but are fun to look at.

  • Stevo H.

Wow, what a disappointment. John Taffer needs to come here and give the manager a talk. Came last night and had a great pizza. Came back tonight (cuz I'm staying at The Westin across the street) and not only did it take 20 minutes to get a beer, waitstaff girls were weird, and the fish tacos were, well, they were inedible. Being part of the Westin, you'd figure there would be an above par standard. Not the case. There's a reason for all the negative reviews. If you want to watch a game and have a beer - it's fine. If you want to eat here - it's a gamble. Hey Manager, stop being complacent and do your job...this Californian is not coming back...ever.

  • Original 6.

Decent bar food, but expensive for what it is...bar food. Sandwiches/burgers all in the $15-$22 range, and appetizers in the $10-$18...most somewhere in the middle. Again, mostly decent food (exception being the Thai wings which have a dry rub and are absolutely horrible), but there are better restaurants in the area.

    (3)
  • Bobbi H.

Good food, but overpriced like everything from the a westin Diplomat. Mexican dip was gooey & yummy, I got a pizza that was a big blob of cheese. Now I LOVE cheese, and am usually a person who likes extra, but this went too far. Good to wrap up and take back to the hotel to snack on. My hubs liked the fish tacos a lot. We had great service at our table on the water.

    (4)
  • Shannon M.

After waiting for over 30 mins to be acknowledged by our server after being seated, we left! That doesn't include the 30 min wait at the bar. the hostess lacked enthusiasm - we seemed to be a bother to her. Waste of an evening! Now to find dinner!

    (1)
  • Jen H.

This place was just ok and relativity affordable since most of the other restaurants in the area are ridiculously expensive. I ordered the chicken gyro...which I wasn't a fan of due to the quality of the chicken. However, I did order a raspberry mojito, which was quite delicious!

Avoid this place if you're staying at the Westin Diplomat and want a late (Friday at 11 pm) cocktail. A measured 3 oz martini will set you back $14. Seriously?!?! We are in Hollywood, FL -- not Manhattan or Hollywood, CA. The view is 60-year old men, bobbing their head to the Sirius 90's pop station, trying to pick up women 1/3 their age. It's really creepy. You have been warned. The only reason I give them one star is the wings are not terrible. So I didn't leave hungry. My only advise is to pay for a cab to a local bar where you will get better service, food, and drinks at a reasonable price (including the round trip taxi).

This was a nice place to grab a meal enjoyed sitting outside and our server was very friendly we enjoyed the fish and chips and a cold beer

    (3)
  • Brandon K.

It's overpriced. But what place isn't if it's on the water? (intercostal) You'll spend at least $15 on an entree. It's an "upscale" sports bar. I sat at the bar and it was early on a Fri night. The service was great and the food was pretty good actually. But what kind of sports bar has $32 entrees??? Decent beers on tap. Good location if you're staying at the Westin with no car.

    (4)
  • Colleen C.

This is basically an upscale sports bar, in my opinion. One of my favorite things about sports bars is that they're usually super cheap, but that was not the case here. However, the food was delicious and the staff is fantastic. Can't complain about the location either!

This place is so bad. Wow. We were here as a family staying at the Westin Diplomat and our second night we gave Rival's a try. I must note that they claim to be open until 2am and our first night after arriving late I called the hotel operator asking them what was still open (just after midnight). She said Rivals until 2am so we walked across the overpass walkway only to find lights off and door locked. No one knew why. Back to tonight though. I made a reservation through Open Table for 6:30pm on a Wednesday night. We showed up and there was one other table in the very large restaurant. The hostess was terrible. Such a bad attitude and not welcoming at all! Pretty much set the tone for what was ahead. We were seated and no one came over for about 8-10 minutes and no kids menus available. Our waitress comes over and she is in just as poor of a mood. No one inside the walls of this place apparently wants to be here. Kids pizza was weak. Side Salad was brownish and thrown together without care. We also ordered roasted mussels, Kobe beef sliders, corona lime shrimp, Cuban sandwich and a chicken Cobb salad. Roasted mussels came out and they were amazingly salty. Someone salted them so heavily. The waitress said there is a new cook so it makes sense. They couldnt be consumed because they were so salty. Kobe beef sliders were standard. Ask for onion jam to go on the side. Cobb salad was fine. Standard. Shrimp was pretty good but small portion. Overall, I would never come back here.

I agree that it is kind of expensive. However, this is the best bar food out there. The mini tacos and quesadillas are really scrumptious !

    (4)
  • Rick S.

Food was average....typical bar food. Decent beer selection. But the big plus was they put on the hockey game per our request. That was good enough for me.

    (3)
  • Michael J.

Good solid choice. Excellent service. A bit pricey for a sports bar. I was amazed at the amount of employees they have for the few customers on a Saturday night. Yes, a quiet Saturday in December, but still, lots of employees standing around. The food was ok, typical sportsbar food, but also a bit expensive. Given so few options while staying at the Diplomat, it was ok. But, after seeing the next morning, I would likely head a mile north to the boardwalk and find food up there. Doubt I ever go back. Of course, I live 3000 miles away, so not much of a loss on their part.

    (2)
  • Daniel P.

Definite tourist trap. I gave a single star due to the good being awful. Service was fine but we ordered the calamari which I love. This calamari was small, had lemon in it and banana peppers, which I like, but with calamari?! We ordered a Cesar salad which one bite was taken. It came with the wrong type of lettuce and appeared to be from a store mixed green bag. Finally was the fish and chips. Eek! The fish and fries were soiled in fryer grease. You expect some because it's fried but it was very dark and discolored. One half of one piece was eaten of three pieces. My lovely girlfriend, the view, and the coke were the best parts.

    (1)
  • Andreas H.

We stopped in here last night for a snack and drink, and ended up staying for a few hours. The bartender was great, knew her stuff, and even carried on a discussion about scotch. The food was also impressive (for a bar). We had the Jamaican Jerk chicken wings and the crab spinach dip and both were very tasty. Yes, the prices are a bit high, but you're in a resort area, deal with it. All in all, we were happy with the choice to stop in here and we will be back to check out their happy hour.

    (4)
  • Irina P.

If can leave less than a one star I would as well. I live across the street and come here all of the time because their food is so good, even though they are extremely overpriced, have rude waiters, and super slow service. Last week, I walked in to watch the Giants game, and they only had 2 games on that no one was watching. After begging them to turn the game on, and them saying "they have no control of the TVs", and calling me demeaning names like "sweetheart", he gave me the smalled TV on the opposite side of the bar, which unless you have 15/15 vision was impossible to see. Needless to say I walked out on my order. Can't control the remote? give me a break. diplomat Hotel should be ashamed to be associated with this "sports bar"

  • Dawn Y.

We have been here several times over the last several years. Sometimes it's been so busy that its near impossible to get in. Today though, it was dead. There was one other table at 7pm. The chefs were leaning on counters chatting away and I was nervous the food would suffer. To my surprise the sausage pizza was pretty good (6 stars out of 10) and the server went out of her way to make my picky daughter's pasta with butter a gourmet dish. Unfortunately we ordered the Mexican layer dip as well. It was flavorless and greasy. Business was picking up as we left but it still looked sadder (and more run down) than I remember. I remember their Kobe sliders fondly but didn't order them on this visit.

    (2)
  • C D.

Food was mediocre. Prices were a little high only because the food was just ok. Not really a sports bar with their 20" tvs. Only had about 7 beers available. Weird place!

Rivals Sports Grill is convenient place to eat at if you are staying at the Diplomat Hotel. It is literally across the street from the hotel all you have to do is just get on the walkway and you are there. The only times we have gone to eat here is when we are actually staying at the hotel from time to time. It is the only place in walking distance that you can eat at that is not in the actual hotel. They have a bunch of t.v.'s and they will put on any game you want to watch if you ask (like most places). The times I have gone it has never been really packed but modestly filled. Since this is not a very busy restaurant the waiters are pretty laid back. If I could recommend anything from the menu it would be the Key West Wings. -Melissa Marie

A bit pricey although the build-your-own pizza and flat bread were both reasonably priced and really good. Service was okay, but certainly not outstanding - had to chase down the waitress for refills.

Came here on the 4th of July and the place was packed, my husband and i had a wonderful time. kobe sliders are amazing and service was great despite the amount people. Cucumber mojito is great!!!

  • Rich L.

Booo westin. As much as it costs to stay at your hotel coupled wth 8.00 beers ( with tax and tip), at least wow me on service. At 130am on a wednesday in may i shouldnt have to wait forever for my waitress to stop by and ask if i want another. Oh, and, you may want to have enough shotglasses so me and my friends can have more than 2 rounds of irish car bombs. And not for nothin, this isnt cleveland ohio, supposed to be south florida..... Last call at 145? I though thats when the party is just getting started in lauderdale?

Rivals is a very convenient place to eat if you are staying at the Westin Diplomat. It's a quick jaunt across the street and you are there. And although it's considered a sports bar, and the waiters wear Nike shirts, the menu did not reflect the "sports" aspect of its name. The prices were kind of high but the presentation and quality of offerings were good. I went with the Lime Shrimp over an amazing bed of rice with a side of freshly grilled vegetable kabobs. It hit the spot and was more than I expected. My dining companions raved about the beer flights and the popcorn shrimp. No reservations were needed and the service was fair. If you are looking to watch a game of some sort, there are numerous TVs at all angles to accommodate you.

  • Shawn T.

Had the worst ribs, and service to match. I'm not usually harsh on Restuarants the first time I visit but I won't ever go back. I was there for a conference and we booked a total number of people in advance and they tried to charge us for 9 more people than we reserved for. One word "Shady" anyway, they probably stay in business because there are not many choices around the Westin, so they fill up with unsuspecting guests each week.

    (1)
  • Kristian P.

Your average sports bar, but since it's connected to the Westin and on the waterway, the prices are way too high. It is open late, so it was either room service or 20 bucks for a beer and a burger... The beer and burger won, plus they have about 20 TVs with every sporting event on.

After researching and realizing that there weren't that many dining options around the Westin Diplomat, the bf and I settled on going to Rivals (which is across the street). We ended up meeting up with a group here and the restaurant was pretty accommodating about seating. They also put on the Cal NCAA basketball game! Blue moon on tap with plenty of orange slices - yes please! The beer flights with appropriate garnishes was pretty awesome. We shared the corn dusted calamari - pretty standard BUT there was fried lemon! It was interesting and delicious when eaten at the same time with the calamari. I REALLY wanted to try one of their chicken wing options but I couldn't eat meat that day so I had to pass, oh well. I ended up having the mahi mahi fish and chips and the bf had the kobe beef patty melt. My fish and chips were okay - way too much batter though. The bf seemed to enjoy his patty melt. All in all, pretty typical sports bar. I just wouldn't order the fish and chips again. Prices are okay, on par with brewery prices like Gordon Biersch in the city.

I'm going to rate this place on two scales for you all since there's the fact that this is like the only place you can eat at for casual dining especially if you are staying at the Westin and you didn't get a rental car or don't wanna take a cab. If you have a car, I'd say it is a regular 3 stars and maybe even 3.75 since the service is really friendly and the food is pretty darn good. If you are stranded in the area though there's only so much you can do without easy access to get elsewhere. Anyhow, so the food is pretty tasty - had the kobe sliders, wings and hummus plate and all were nice solid meals. Nothing too crazy but good stuff. The beer selection is pretty decent as well and as I mentioned before the staff are really nice and those referee tops the bartenders wear are kinda hot too. :)

This is one of the only restaurants within walking distance to the diplomat hotel/residences. I ate here on a desperate attempt to get some decent food, (which is seriously lacking in the area). Now, I ordered a Cuban sandwich and fries, basic right? The fries were OK, and the cuban was honestly a vile concoction of shitty ingredients, presented in the most unappetizing way possible. This is one of the worst meals of my life, and the sandwich/fry combo was $18 + 15% gratuity. RUN from this place, and hail a cab to downtown Hollywood instead.

If I could give the bar service less than a star I would. Starting off, we made reservations because we knew there would be a large crowd because of a radio show being broadcast from there for the Orange Bowl. Upon arriving we were told that they did not have a reservation for our party size at the time, we were then told that we could wait to see if another party did not show up. We waited in the extremely busy bar. After multiple attempts to flag down a bartender, we were finally waited on by a very rude woman in an extremely tight (and unflattering) referee get-up. After ordering my date's drink (a vodka Collins), she immediately left, allowing no time to specify the vodka, The drink was not only made with an inferior vodka, it was not a vodka collins. Also, it was not drinkable. They finally called us for our table an hour after our reservation time and as the radio show was ending. We left without eating and without ordering additional drinks. As such I have no idea what their food is like nor what the restaurant service is like. The only positive part of our experience was the validated parking.

This is a great, hidden spot right on the water to grab an appetizer and some drinks. The restaurant is located across the street from the Westin and there is ample parking in the garage. There are a alot of flatscreens playing sports but it is classy enough to take people that have no interest in sports too. The bar has several beers on draft (like Stella) and there are numerous appetizers to choose from. We arrived late and the dining room was closed so we sat outside on the patio facing the intercoastal. The mushroom/caramelized onion flatbread was awesome and I wish I had ordered 2 of them. The quesadillas had chorizo and they were pretty good. The service was excellent and it's a great place to just chill. The decor is very modern and the ambiance is laid back but classy.

Was surprised to see children here late at night in the bar area. It's a sports bar - a bar - after all. We stopped in for a beers, cocktails and ended up having dinner on the patio outside. Bar service was respectable, and they had a good number of beers on draft. I was satisfied with my meal, but our friends raved about the food and they're picky (too). For a once-off experience, I would have given it a 2 or so myself. If we end up back in the area, we might it another go. Again, disappointed to see nose miners there so late and that has something to do with both the place and the families going there.

Here's the thing. The food is really good. Unfortunately, the service and the prices... are both horrible. We have waited over two hours for a table when it was not busy. We have waited 20 minutes for a server to approach our table. Our drinks were never refilled, our plates not cleared for a half an hour after finishing. While the food was excellent, the horrible service put a really bad taste in our mouth. We have attempted to go there many times. As locals within walking distance - a sports bar is a great thing to have. We'd love to go watch some games here and have tried on many occasion. They generally shut the kitchen down early if they feel like it. There are no drink specials, the drinks are expensive, and the bartenders have on more than one occasion told us to take a cab down to another bar for better specials and late night food. It's disappointing because we wanted to like it so bad and would have been great regular customers.

Across from the Wesin Diplomat, it's a sports themed bar with a wannabe nightclub vibe. The prices are steep for what you get, but if you are staying at the hotel, you don't have too many options within walking distance. Fish and Chips were very good, but lacked any sort of tarter sauce. The Roast Chicken Flatbread Pizza was awful. Chicken tasted like it had been cooked a week ago. Totally soggy, basically inedible. Spicy Asian Popcorn Shrimp were very good, and were literally served over Popcorn for some bizarre reason. I do give them credit for beer selection, anyplace that has Chimay White on draft gets an extra star in my book. Bar staff was very good, no issues at all there during our visit.

Unfortunately, if you're staying at the Westin and you don't want to pay for a taxi you're stuck with the restaurant choices on site unless you want to order Chinese food or walk down to the 7-11 for snacks. We were seated and waited 15 minutes for a waitress. Mind you, we were starving. Finally someone comes and says she's running late, I can take your drink order. Why seat us in her section if she's not even here? She takes our order, then a couple of minutes later walks past us, no water and no drinks! Finally our waitress comes with the drinks. I ask her, "Shouldn't our drinks be on the house since we've been waiting this long?" The manager gives us dessert for free. She then proceeds to take our order sans pen and paper, but she keeps forgetting the order so she has to keep coming back to ask us. Bottom line, go somewhere else.

Great location if you are staying at the Diplomat. Odd music choices for a sports bar, which kept us looking around for the club scene all during lunch. The food was pretty standard/slightly upscale bar food. We had curry wings and kobe beef sliders, both were pretty good. Prices are a little steep considering it is a sports bar.

I've been here twice and the place never disappoints. Happy hour is a steal, five-dollar martinis and half-price appetizers! The place is right on the intracoastal waterway with great views while enjoying a drink. We had the slider burgers and the jamaican-jerked chicken wings, which were hot but delicious. Oh, by the way, they also validate your parking in their multi-level garage. They also have a great selection of beers, too. All in all, this place, during happy hour, is ideal for those cash-conscious consumers. Cheers!

Not a bad place, especially since they are across the street from the Westin Hotel. This place gets the job done. Lots of TVs, ok food, and open late - until 1am (convenient especially if you are flying from the west coast with a 3 hour time difference.

Overpiced hotel oriented sports bar, with mediocre food, and bad service. The "kobe sliders" I ordered medium rare came out well done, and the meat was McDonald's grade at best. I'm going to give it two stars becuase they had Chimay white on tap.

How do you cater to the weekly business travelling crowd with expense accounts? First, be near a major hotel. Second, build a sports bar filled with flat screen TVs. Third, hire attractive bartenders and waitstaff and dress them in skimpy workout clothes so they look like they might bust out with Olivia Newton John's "Let's get Physical" at any moment. Alternatively, they might make you wait while they get on a stationary bike to do their spin class. Fourth, "upscale" it by using funky dishes and other tableware likely sourced from Ikea's restaurant outfitters division. Fifth, justify the above by charging a premium. What do the diners care, they have expense accounts! I actually didn't eat here, but I did a good bit of looking at the food (hey, I was starting to get hungry!) I saw a couple steaks that looked like they had quite a bit of fat on them. The fries looked good, but they're served "up". And the burgers didn't look bad. They didn't look amazing, either. Service was a bit slow, but I was impressed by my bartenderess' full-figured knowledge of drinks by not batting an eye at my ordering a rusty nail. The bartender for my second drink (you don't stick with one, they place the bill in front of you, and anyone can serve) said they didn't carry a Negroni. I asked if he meant they were out of Campari, sweet vermouth or gin, and he realized it was the name of a drink. He did a pretty decent job of making one, but said it was unbelievably strong. A bartender that thinks a drink is too strong has certainly not been behind the bar long enough. He joked that I should be behind the bar and he should be sitting where I was, with my date. I quipped he was half right.

I am very surprised to say that I really enjoyed my meal here. It is a hotel sports bar, so I had VERY low expectations. However, all the food I had at the Diplomat was fantastic, and Rivals was delightful. The strawberry basil lemonade was a delightful indulgence. Highly recommend. I liked my mahi sandwich and LOVED the sweet potato fries. My husband had a fantastic but small version of fish and chips. Delicious fries. My daughters had the kids meals: mac and cheese and hamburger. Both were super. The water taxi stops here, so this is a good option for dinner since it is a bit over an hour between water taxis. Highly recommend if at the Diplomat.

I ducked in to kill some time and meet an old classmate as our high school reunion was in the hotel and we were early. So, neither of us ate. But we (hardly) enjoyed overpriced drinks in this personality-less "sports" bar. 2 drinks, well liquor = $18 and they ADD gratuity to all checks. FAIL. My bartender was full of personality. Too bad I'm not into dudes. Unimpressed. Cabeza OUT!

This is a gastro pub with a waterfront view. And what a view! So, seat outside unless you are dying to see the games. With a friendly service and interesting menu choices, the Rivals is always a great place to have a drink while browsing the boats and enjoy Florida' nice weather. Very convenient to guests of the Diplomat and neighbors. We have being here several times. We came with a bigger group in our last visit (8 people all together) and the service wasn't good. I like the wings (both are spice, thought) and the kobe sliders, always a win. I don't recommend the ceviche.

While cheaper than the hotel food, the food was tasteless and dry. If I had choices other than the hotel (I had no car), I would not have eaten here. It was reasonably priced and the service was good, however. If you aren't picky about food and want a nice place to watch the game and drink, this is for you. I was not drinking, so it did not impress this hungry conventioneer.

Rivals has a captive audience in the people staying at the Diplomat Hotel. With that in mind, I think that they price it to meet the clientele versus what they probably should charge. I've had the Cobb salad and a hamburger here. They were good. I must admit that. Their beverage selection is also pretty good. However, I think that they are charging a bit too much for what they give you. If you're staying at the Diplomat and you don't want to walk about a 1/2 mile to other food selections, then this is a good choice (versus eating in the hotel). If you are mobile, then you can seek some other altermatives.

Snapper special was amazing. Perfectly cooked, juicy fresh and accompanying garlic broccoli completed the dish. Our waitress Susan recommended it. She was extremely polite and helpful. Would definitely recommend trying this place out. My cousins had the mahi mahi fish and chips and they were great too.

One of my underrated favorite spots to watch a game. It never gets crazy crowded during Heat games, and has those half-circle booths that I like for stretching my legs while still facing my company. The food menu is seriously lacking -- everything has meat and gluten, save for 2 GF options -- an upgrade in this area would raise my feeling about this place. Otherwise the staff os pretty cool and I like the location at the Westin Hollywood which is always quiet and chill. Not a bad place to take a walk after you meal either.

Rivals is in a sad state. It's raining behind the bar because there's a leak in the roof. Bar stools are rickety. Worst of all, no more truffle fries-just plain fries. :(

I was staying at the diplomat and randomly decided to try the restaurant with my family and I did not regret it! I absolutely loved this place! Great service and great food. I had the build your own border which was great. Our server was Krystal and she did an amazing job! She was very attentive and checked back up with us often. Also the manager came by and made sure we were doing well, which was a plus! I Totally recommend this place!

This is your run of the mill sports bar. I ordered a burger with fries and it definitely hit the spot. They definitely had enough tvs around (Conference Basketball tournaments were going on... definitely a plus to help start planning for the NCAA Tournament). They didn't have a Killians Irish Red on tap (big deal... right? hah), but the waiter suggested another beer as an alternative (the name i do not remember) and ended up being pretty good!

I really have a thing for places with a waterfront seating. well this place calls itself a sports bar and maybe it is, but for my two visits there, it felt more of a restaurant. the food was really good and refreshing (the greek steak salad was amazing) . you usualy expect sports bar to have only fried food, steak etc.. this place have some good quality food. a big plus is the open kitchen, i really like places that show their kitchen so you could really see what's going on out there. great for a business meeting (they have a big round booth that fits 6 people) or even for romantic place near the canal. the only sad part is that in both of my visits the place was almost empty. let's hope they will stay in business

Stayed at the Crowne Plaza and walked down with my famliy. Pretty decent food with a good atmosphere. Prices were a little high ($20.00 for Kobe Sliders) but they were pretty good. Tried a beer flight and it would have been nice is the server could have told me which beers were in it, because they were not the n=ones listed in the menu. Overall I would go back.

Great location, if you are staying at the Westin Diplomat and has a nice water view. They are pricey for what you get, but the food is good. The service was only fair, so don't be in a rush. TVs are on everywhere, so if that's not your thing, you will have to try hard to avoid them.

Love it! Love it! Love it! We come here mostly every other day when were in town. This place has the best Blackberry Martini I've ever had made by "Mark", and great food too! Trust me no one can make a drink like Mark so ask for him! Nice place to sit and chill out at night overlooking the beautiful waterway.
