Beer special to get the night going... 2.4.1.... Honestly a great restaurant which is surrounded by other who do not offer the quality and varity that La Carreta offers with their menu. Their Vaca Frita is great... Mouth watering flavors that hits home for that Hispanic Ethnic cuisine.

The good was Great and at a great price. The price was good and the portions large. The mojito was very, very good :)

Very good portion sizes! The food was tasty, my pork was a tad too salty but still delish. The drink specials were awesome! And they have happy hour all day! Brilliant concept!

Food was great! I had the fried the pork chunks and they were beautifully done. Place is nice and clean. We had ordered through take-out and our order was ready to pick up at the designated time with no wait. My children had the breaded chicken with congris and they enjoyed it as well. My wife had the Cuban sampler and it was very good. My hats off to this establishment because it was pleasant to actually eat their food. Staff was very friendly and willing to go the extra step to please us. The platano Maduros were on point and very good. I will go back and enjoy La carreta with my family at a later date. Lastly, prices are economical.

Excellent food, very friendly service and no wait on a weeknight. It doesn't get much better than that. This place is a short walk from the nearby hotels and worth the trek. The Vaca Frita (grilled beef) was tasty and lean a salty jerk flavor with grilled onions. This was a huge portion and I was starving but still could barely finish my meal. It was served with large portions of black beans and rice. They also give you large basket of fresh, hot Cuban bread. Apparently this place is a local chain and I'm not claiming it's the best Cuban food in the Miami area, but it was an excellent meal and I'll be sure to come back here if I'm back in the area.

Don't ever order sandwiches, toastadas or anything that is normally ordered from the patio - while dining on the inside!!! Always cold, or wrong or maybe the inside kitchen is doing it and they are always crappy! Going outside to order it and the family had a horrible dinner! Thanks to "yackie" da waitress!

I regret coming here the other week. :( The service was disappointing. Plain and simple. I hate to be BLUNT this time, but the lady forgot half our order, and was weird if we had to remind her. After reminding her three times, our appetizers still never showed up, same with my best friend's soup order as well. We ended up getting a litte full off the free stale bread, so we just said forget it altogether. Our steak meal we shared didn't come with the peppers and onions it usually does..and was cold... Overall, there is so many amazing Cuban restaurants out here in South Florida. I'd suggest don't go the 'franchise route' if you want a great experience. I think we just came here because I had this faint, faint memory back in the day of being satisfied here...I think it was faint for a reason. haa. Maybe just get the croquettas and colada at the side window they have and that's all.

This is by far the worst La Carreta I have been too and I have been to many! The hostess did not even greet us when we walked in. She was too busy leaning on the wall. No people skills whatsoever. A second waitress came up and asked us if we were there for the buffet. When we replied that we were not. She told us then we would have to wait until after the kitchen closed and reopened to be seated. Needless to say we walked out. Management should hire people who want to be there. I would never try this place.

Worst cuban food ever at this location! Every time I order for take out its always cold or something is missing!

  • Monica A.

Friendly staff, was craving some Arroz Congrí for a while and even though I ended up ordering the white rice with the black beans on the side, they were FANSASTIC! I had the Cuban Sampler and it's easily a plate to be shared between two people...! Great coffee and bread too

If your a huge fan of Cuban food then this is your place. I see this food all over Miami so its not that big a deal to go out of my way to try and eat here. The complimentary dry garlic bread you get is not worth the effort to chew mostly because it just makes a crumbly mess since you don't get any plates. The service is nice, the food always comes out fast and warm and the place always seems clean. I don't care for rice and beans so I usually get the Cuban. It varies in taste depending when I go. Sometimes its delicious others it can be a bit gamey. If your in a hotel and near one of these places its a good enough stop to eat.

Came here today when we couldn't decide what to eat for breakfast. We wanted good quality but without the expenses of a brunch style dinning experience. Another factor that hindered our decision in choosing a restaurant was the distance. Of course it's a lazy Sunday and who wants to drive when you wake up starving!? I have never been to La Carreta for Sunday brunch and thought what the hell. The service was quick and attentive. The food consisted of the regular Cuban breakfast dishes with some picadillo! I was sold! You can also find some Cuban pastries that test freshly baked. My wife, my daughter and I all ate until we couldn't breath! Yea fatty status but the best part was the bill. $24! You can't beat that! If you are in the area want a quick bite with quality and don't want to fork up the mula, you won't be disappointed.

Came in on my lunch break and was pleasantly surprised. I love Caribbean food and La Caretta didn't disappoint. I ordered the chicken chicharron with black rice and plantains and everything was delicious. The service was so-so. Not terrible but could have been better. Our server didn't speak English. Lucky for me my co-worker spoke Spanish so she was able to translate. Had to ask 3 times for bread and didn't see our server again after our food was served. I needed a refill on my drink but never got it as I the next time we saw her was when she happened to walk by and we flagged her down for our bill. Overall not a bad experience. I would return (but hopefully get a different server)

This visit disappointed me, I was here last a few months ago and since then it has become pricey, the orange juice which used to be on the table as part of the buffet is now served to you and only one glass, any additional juice almost $3.00 the glass; the food was not the best, it felt warm but not hot as something fresh out of the stove, also, the water served to you is not even filtered or bottled water as I witness the staff wash the pitcher and filled it up with good old tap water. No wonder the parking lot was half empty which is so extremely rare. I do not foresee coming here in the future as I would rather pay $10.25 for each adult at a place where I may not be disappointed

Do Not Call for Delivery!! Even eating in is horrible service. I ordered at 8:24p and its 10:02pm and my order is not here. I tried calling many times and was put on hold then yelled at by a rude lady. I finally got the Manger who did his best But my order is still not here!! Wish me luck.

The food here is always good. Typical Hispanic food with all the typical dishes. However, the service here is HORRIBLE. The "3 stars" is for the food the service deserves a 1. Whether i order take to which is suppose to only take 25 min (ends up taking 45) or sit down and wait 45 for an appetizer its always a mess. I honestly do not go here because of the service. There is 2 other cuban restaurants within 15 min of this place and i would rather drive there then deal with the service.

  • Dee A.

I try to give them the benefit of the doubt but everytime i come i get disappointed! I usually order "arroz imperial" which is basically yellow rice and chicken with cheese melted on top, and they cant even get that right. Each time they bring my plate back without the cheese on top, and when I mention it they say that I had to ask for cheese, which dosesnt make any sense at all if thats what the meal consist of. I also dont like the fact that they dont speak much english, I understand its a cuban resturant but what about the customers that come in that dont speak spanish?!

Are you ready? This is the review that might change your life. Yes, the outdoor area is nice. Their cafecito is the perfect way to put a little Cuban swag in your contemporary business professional repertoire. This is not what I'm reviewing. Remember my little cute girlfriend? The one I'm always talking about? Ok, every time she gets a cold I get their Chicken Soup to go and it instantly fixes her. They have the perfect combination of Cuban magic love and poultry. Seriously. If you're getting a cold, get their soup. You welcome, America.

La Carreta! It's the cart.... and let's not put it before the horse! Cuban American culture is what Miami is all aboot! When Castro took power on New Year's Eve 1959, he changed the world on this beautiful island in the Caribbean as well as resurfacing what was then sleepy South Florida!!! Castro took power in Cuba and those that had the means and the will to leave everything they knew and loved behind or had no choice but to leave ended up in Miami, with nothing in their pocket but a heavy heart and a dream of what they could be as a culture if they were given the chance to live free! Miami gave them this chance and the rest is history!!! :-) Ay que bueno!!! Havana was a vacation destination for many reasons before Castro came along and now Miami is a MAJOR destination because of what the Cuban American population brought to South Florida! That sexy, caliente, latin heat that has made Miami a world wide haven for all those that can handle it is why we continue to grow and it's why Miami is the hub/gateway to Latin America!!!! Oh yea, La Carreta, it's a little slice of Cuba en los Estados Unidos.... and in this part of the world it's a reminder of why the world is what it is South of the Palm Beach County border!!! I'd tell you more about the food but I only came in here for a "cortadito"... a short Cuban coffee that packs that oft times necessary caffeine punch!!! Viva Miami!!! :-)))

We went recently on a Friday night. The food was good as always, but the service was a bit confusing. One person in our party wanted the chicharron, but they said they didn't have it. Then when the orders came out, another person actually received chicharron and didn't know they had ordered it. Another person in our group wanted the fist soup, but they said they were out of it, then there was a long discussion about what was soup and what was stew which only confused us more. In the end, the food was very good and we would go back again. Just subtract one star for some weirdness in ordering.

Don't do it! Never been to a restaurant that charges Iced tea by the glass. That is what I call penny smart and dollar foolish! Bad service and mediocre food. There are plenty of options in the area. Don't waste your time or your money here

  • Mark C.

I've been here several times for the breakfast buffet. The food is pretty good the waitstaff is okay. They do a decent job of keeping the breakfast buffet stocked although it's difficult because the place is typically pretty crowded. Overall I would say it's a great value for the money I would recommend it, Especially if you're with a lot of family and would like a big breakfast at an inexpensive price.

  • Gunther T.

This is hands down the best La Carreta in South Florida. The Calle Ocho location is filthy, Bird Road is always packed, University is just wierd but Miramar always has good service and quality. Plus a decent bar and a Sunday breakfast buffet. All locations do have a good price = value

  • Avriel W.

Our first stop in town when we got here.we bad the brunch buffet! My favorite thing on the buffet is the ground beef it had such a great flavor. The staff was very friendly. It's great for large groups and trying new things all at one time. The cafe con leche was soooooo good.

I went in at 5pm, it was horrible from the second I walked in. The host was up against the wall mean mugging us, and she didn't leave the wall until I told her "two." If I wouldn't of said anything I wonder if she would of spoke. Where was our greeting? We get to our table and we wait about 10 minutes, had like nine conversations, before I had to flag down a server. We ordered, she said the bread was coming soon. The bread finally comes and the guy who brought it dumps it in the corner of the table by my friend. Not even in the center of the table. While he is talking to some other server. I was highly disappointed in the service from the second I walked in, but don't worry; I will not be coming here anymore.

My fiance and I went for an early dinner and both ordered Liver "Italian" Style, side order or salad and fries. After waiting for nearly 40 minutes (the place was nearly empty) our food is brought to the table and to my surprise I was able to count just 4 small pieces of liver on my plate! So I told the server and this burly guy shows up looking like a bodyguard for some Mafia boss and nearly grunting says "What's the problem?" I reply, "the problem is there's barely ANY liver in this dish!" "Well" he replies "We use 6oz of liver per dish." So I say "If I order a steak, will you bring me half of one? There isn't enough meat in this dish to constitute a meal." They guy wouldn't offer any solution other than to make me another... I wasn't going to wait ANOTHER 40 minutes. And really didn't want to guess what he might 'add' to the food... So I said "nevermind, I'll just remember to not come back here again." And he leaves... The least they could have done, since I accepted the scarce food I was served, would have been to NOT CHARGE ME for that particular plate! We went to "La Carreta" in Miramar, thinking that the food and service would be like the one in Pembroke Pines... With actual FOOD INCLUDED with a meal. But no, these stingy bastards think they can get away with this and not have customers say anything more... They're wrong. I'll make sure TO NEVER AGAIN step foot in La Carreta of Miramar EVER AGAIN. And to post this review in every possible website dealing with BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. MUCHAS GRACIAS... pelotudos.

I love Cuban breakfast so I came here with my daughter this week. Don't remember the name but my breakfast was pretty huge. 2 fried eggs, tostada, grits, ham, 2 croquetas and of course a cafe con leche lol! Oh man I eat way to much! It was as good as breakfast can be. The croquetas were really good, better than most bakeries I've been to. If you're in the neighbor you can get a safe Cuban breakfast here and enjoy it!

I found it interesting that the wait staff didn't speak much English. That wasn't necessarily a problem, but it did seem unusual. Anyway, the food wasn't particularly flavorful and the bread was quite dry.

I'm not quite sure how the reviews for this place aren't better. Up until very recently, I used to have lunch here about once a week...over the span of two years. La Carreta never disappointed me. The Cuban food here is phenomenal. Now of course I'm not talking anything incredibly special. Just the Cuban staples of palomilla, vaca frita, sopa de platano, bistec empanizado, and a couple other things. But mostly palomilla - that's my go-to Cuban meal. The steak is ALWAYS incredibly delicious. I think one of the things I love is that the sides are no slouch either. I could eat barrels of this white rice and be happy. The maduros are always perfect, not too firm or too soft, just the right amount of greasy (they are fried after all). I also love that they have sopa de platano daily, when for most places its usually just a special. La Carreta, even though they have raised their prices a bit recently, and were probably the first (or at least still are the best) chain cuban restaurant in Miami, still offer prices that are a lot lower than comparable restaurants that are serving food that isn't nearly as good. At this particular location, you can also be assured incredibly timely service. Like I said, I used to come to lunch here once a week for about two years and I don't think that once it ever took longer than 45 minutes from entering the door to paying the bill. Service overall is also pretty attentive - since the place is always packed they're running a tight ship to make sure they get to serve as many people as possible, which I'm sure is perfectly fine with the lunch crowd who likely have limited time to eat before they head back to their cubicle farms.

This is our favorite lunch spot that's close to where we work. The wait staff has always been friendly and attentive during my visits. I normally get the vaca frita or the lechon depending on my mood. It's always very tasty and "hits the spot". The free Cuban bread with butter is a nice appetizer prior to the meal arrival. I always end up getting a cortadito after my meal from here. Their cortadito is the best in the area. Definitely a returning guest. Looking forward to trying additional items.

  • Vanessa R.

The service SUCKS! I got a pan con bistec (which is what I always always get when I come here) and this time around it had some weird sauce on it that tasted like mayonnaise. I politely ask my waitress if they had put mayonnaise on it and she bursts out before I could finish my sentence saying that it had no mayonnaise and that it was the sauce from the steak. It was a creamy beige sauce that just tasted terrible. I clearly didn't like it because she saw it in my face and she didn't do anything about it. I didn't eat it, but of course had to pay for it. She's lucky she wasn't wearing a name tag, if not I would've put it on here. I've never been so disappointed in this location.

  • Miguel P.

Quality has suffered tremendously here. The croquettes are a total shame. I love La Carreta, but enough is enough. Do not order the croquettes, you will truly be disappointed. The sandwiches are going down as well, specially in size, not price!

We arrived at around 9:15pm to an empty restaurant. I had not been to La Carreta for sometime and was looking forward to a nice quick authentic Cuban meal on a Tuesday night. What I got was slow bad service, cold rice, room temperature plantains and had to endure the long wait while sitting in a dated booth that might have been the least comfortable booth in history. What I got was attitude from the waiter when I complained that my meal was taking way too long... when I pointed out that my neighboring table, who sat down 15-20 minutes after us, was almost done with their meal. "Sorry but we ran out of chicken so we had to make some more." Say what? Did I understand you correctly? Did you just tell me your chicken is pre-cooked and since you ran out of that, you had to make a 'fresh' one and, thus, the 40 minute wait? Yeah... Next time I will make sure... wait... who am I kidding. There will not be a next time.

  • Jacob Z.

Delicious! Even it is a big place, it has a small restaurant feeling. I got the papaya shake and the Cuban sampler. The meat was amazing! It was nice to try several options on one plate. Pork and beef had salty and smokey flavors. The potato wasn't special. The papaya shake was just the Cuban twist I needed - sweet and unique. The waitress was nice as well, but not very enthusiastic.

  • Evelyn M.

This is my favorite Carreta for a few reasons: never a wait because it's a big one, the classic Cuban dishes are always good and they always have 2 for 1 drinks. It's an easy dinner night out.

    (4)
  • Gina D.

I wasnt really impressed with this place. The food was meh and the 2 for 1 drinks were awful couldnt even drink them. The waitresses were very rude. I coudnt wait for the meal to be over so I could leave. I wont be coming back ever again. Not worth the money or time.

I always enjoy coming to this location La Carreta. Their service is quick and never have to wait long for your food. Food is always consistent. Shirt steak and Ox Tail are my favorite from here.

This is a review for 10/22/2013 We're nicely greeted and seated, my family and I came here for dinner. The waitress and the bus boy were nice. The bread that they serve was good, my parents had the special soup for Monday. I got water to drink along with pink lemonade. For the main course I had the Cuban Sandwich special, my mother and my brother had the same thing expect for my dad who had breaded fish with rice and plantains. Overall this is better service than the last one, full 5 stars!

    (5)
  • Zoraida S.

The food is great. Love their breakfast. Authentic cuban food. But I can't give it five stars because with the many times I've been there, their service always disappoints. I continue to go because the food is worth it, but you have to go with patience. Servers are slow, not attentive, never smile. They spend more time talking to each other than attending their customers. Hopefully they can get their service in place and earn the five stars

You know what's funny? I'm a South Florida native, and I even lived IN MIAMI for four years... yet I still never tried La Carreta until recently. Oh, I'd heard about it. You can't live down here and not hear about it eventually. But I finally got to try it for myself, and while I may have some issues with the service, overall I'm a fan. I work close by, and my co-workers one day decided to order from here. Upon my colleague's very enthusiastic recommendation to try the vaca frita, I took her word on it and placed my order, subbing out the moros rice for yellow rice. At $11, It's a somewhat pricey dish, but really, it's at least two meals' worth of food. I cannot fathom being able to finish this in one sitting. The shredded beef is marinated in mojo and grilled with onions until it's crispy on the edges. It doesn't look like much, but I understood my co-worker's enthusiasm once I tasted it. It's quite good, and it reheats wonderfully (dare I say, even better than originally) in a toaster oven if you allow the leftovers to get crispier. The yellow rice is flavorful and is way better than rice I've had at other Latin restaurants. If it were just for the food, the rating would be higher. Alas, the people I've had to interact with in order to get said food bring down the rating. Keep in mind, I've only ever ordered to go, so I can't speak to the waiters inside, just the people taking the orders over the phone. Whenever I've called, I've been put on hold for what feels like an eternity... granted, I know they're busy, but placing me on hold five times (and not short hold times either) in the span of one call is excessive. The lady I spoke to recently sounded a bit irritated that I didn't speak Spanish. For my to-go order the other day, I just wanted a beef empanada and a side of rice. She said condescendingly, "sweetie, you get that outside." (side note: I don't appreciate being called "sweetie" when you're talking down to me like a 5 year old) My co-worker was always the one picking up food, so I had no clue what she meant. When I asked for clarification, I got put on hold. When she came back, I again said I wanted an emapanada to go. This time she sounded flat-out exasperated and said again that I had to get it outside. I apologized (shouldn't have had to, but whatever) and told her I've never been there, and that someone else was picking it up. Can you tell me what you mean so I know how to explain it to him? That got me put on hold again. ::sigh:: Not wanting to go through this any more, I placed my co-worker's order and just ordered my side of rice for myself, asking my co-worker to please get me an empanada from "outside," whatever that meant. When he returned, I only had a side of rice for my meal. Sad. He had apparently only driven to the one side of the restaurant and hadn't seen the outside window on the other side (which I only now know about after picking up food here this afternoon for myself). Now, having gone on my own this time, I again didn't find the lady (no idea if she's the same person I spoke to before or not) at the to-go counter inside to be friendly. When I walked up, she spoke to me in Spanish. I replied, "Pardon?" I can understand some Spanish, but she spoke rapidly and I had no clue what she said. She looked at me annoyed, and repeated what she said, slower, but still in Spanish. So I just spoke in English back and told her I was picking up a to go order. Despite the annoyances, I do like the food I've had so far. Perhaps one day I'll actually eat inside and have a better experience with the employees.

Took a party of seven to lunch at La Carreta today. It took a few minutes to be seated, but it was worth the wait. I had the Cuban Sampler, which was really good except for the chicken which was a little dry. Because we got there a little after 1 pm the service was a little slow and the waitress messed up our order...which she quickly corrected. I really like their yellow rice.

The place where the "cafe" is always perfect no matter how you have it. The food, however - is hit or miss. The decor is very ethnic. The investments and creativity into a Cuban upscale place is spot on. The wait staff dressed in typical "guayaberas" is a classic. The service is usually decent. The good: Any REAL Cuban dish - basically if it contains pork, rice and beans - is going to be a hit. So-so on Meats. Risking it on Chicken. Breakfast decent, but pricey. Sandwiches, definitely a toss up. I do like this place. But way too much hit or misses to warrant anything over 3 stars.

We had our baby shower here and everything was amazing, from the service to the food. Great experience totally recommend them for your next event, they gave such a great price and we had over 50 guest but did not feel crowded at all.

Quick service at this Miramar location, especially if you are going for lunch. The staff is wonderful and very efficient too. The food is authentic cuban cuisine and never fails. I usually get my Boliche, which is a hit or miss at cuban restaurants. Love it here! It's very big, and also serves a breakfast buffet on weekends.

  • Debbie R.

First and last time there! Service was lacking and the two sandwiches we ordered were not good. It seemed like they had been sitting under a heat lamp forever before being served to us. Table next to us with the same amount of people who came after us were served meals before us. Never again!

Cuban food is in abundance in Miami. Not so much when you get into the Broward area so I am happy they opened a La Caretta in Miramar. Its still pretty new looking and does not get as packed as the other Miami locations. The food quality is the same as the others so I prefer going to this one more than any others. Chuleta de Puerco is a go to for me, but when I get a craving I will put down an entire strip of steak. They make it pretty well if you just want a huge piece of cow with a light seasoning. Dont forget a cup of the cafe con leche to finish your dinner with a bit of sweetness.

Good breakfast or brunch place. Cafe con leche and picadillo are great. Bacon and potatoes were under cooked.

  • Raquel S.

I love La Carreta restaurant chain, but I hate our local one. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because the food is pretty consistent and good. However, don't ever expect to receive good service there. It's as if the waiters/waitresses wear blinders as to avoid eye contact with their guests and not have to work. Make sure you preserve the water in your cup just in case you're choking because you nearly have to beg for them to refill your water cup. This last time we went, we received 2 appetizers before getting our utensils, napkins or water. Not to mention, the basket of bread you're supposed to get once you take a seat usually arrives with your entree. If they were to train their current wait staff or hire a complete new one that cares about the consumer, this Carreta would be on par with every other Carreta in south florida.

Authentic Cuban Cuisine and an extensive menu. From great sandwiches to traditional Cuban meals the place is great. Now, it's not fine dining and your waitress may or may not speak English but who cares when the food tastes like home made? I usually make it here for lunch and love the roast pork with rice and beans. Add a little hot sauce and a few plantains and you are all set! I'm not a fan of their Palomilla steak....it's just ok. The Ropa Vieja, though, is perfect. The sandwiches are REALLY good. Go for the Careta or the Cuban. You won't be disappointed. Happy Yelping!

  • Joe B.

Authentic Cuban food was found here. I started with the croquettes. They were par. Then I had the roasted pork. It was roasted perfectly, and was a nice healthy serving. The rice was good and the black beans were a little soupy but it think it was black bean soup so, there ya go. Over all a good meal. Good service. Realistically probably a 3.5 star rating but I learned that at .5 you round up.

Yum! One of my fav places to go for cuban! I always get the ropa vieja and roasted pork to go, roasted pork comes with a huge portion! Also, the maduros are perfectly cooked as well. The girls at the take out counter are super friendly :)

Was there last week, the food was horrible. Expensive and no taste. I have been to almost every carreta in south Florida this was the worst.$15 for a palomilla with no flavor.

I've only been to this location a few times and forgot how pretty it is inside. The place is huge. Of course, they sat my husband and I miles away from civilization because we had a toddler in hand. But beside being child haters the food was pretty solid. They have an assortment of Cuban cuisine staples. I had the ropa vieja, which was very good but I was expecting a bigger portion. Usually Cuban restaurants serve you like your a bottomless pit! My hubs had the fish of te day, I believe it was Snapper with veggies. My son devoured the frijoles negros, which is his official deal of approval. We enjoyed the 2 for 1 hh specials. The sangria was very tasty and had quite a kick..you gotta have your mommy juice with every meal!

recently i was dinning here with my family, the place is always crazy busy as we walk to our table i almost slipped on the greasy floor while caring my son i told the waitress the floor is really slippery she just smiles and say "i know" im thinking wtf ok? so then we order, i ordered my daughter a cheeseburger which she loves but only took 2 bites so i ask her why arent u eating your food? she says daddy it dont taste good. so i closely exam the burger and its raw the meat was completely pink and cold i was pissed i told the waitress look at this burger would you eat this? and you serve this to my 4 yr old! she said omg and walked away. i took a picture of it before the waitress took the plate away and went to the manager to show him what is coming out of his kitchen. this man laughs yes LAUGHS! (LIKE IT WAS ALL A JOKE) i said to him does it look like im laughing my daughter ate some of this! so he tells me ohh we'll just take the burger off your bill. i told him so your gonna take the burger off the bill that my daughter didnt even eat thanks! seriously!? i should have walked out without paying anything. Also they walk around with a dessert tray and the waitress places it right next to my 1 1/2 yr old son in a high chair so of course he goes to grab for the desserts i tell the waitress my son is going to grab a piece of cake off your tray if you dont move it so she says to me if he touches it you pay for it.......... i said to her are you kidding me i wont be paying for anything why would you place that huge tray next to him hes a baby have common sense! (there was plenty of the room by the way to place the tray elsewhere it wasnt like that was only place to put it we were sitting in the corner at a big table! i will never return to this place! the staff is a joke, there serving uncooked/ unsafe meat and the food isnt euthentic cuban. if my daughter gets sick i will be sueing you! ( PIC OF THE FOOD THEY SERVED MY 4YR OLD ON MY PROFILE)

A nice colonial style restaurant with amazing Cuban food, this local chain offers it's patrons a variety of traditional authentic Cuban cuisine. To start the night we order Fried Yuca Sticks, I've also ordered "Ropa Vieja" (old clothes) Shredded Beef Cooked with Onions, Peppers and Tomato Sauce. Served with White Rice and Sweet Plantains, it's absolutely delicious I highly recommended. My girl order Palomilla Steak The Classic Cuban Thin Flat Steak Served with White Rice, Plantains and Black Beans, nothing really interesting about this dish, so she decided to eat my Ropa vieja, also if you are in the mood, get some Imperial Rice Cooked with Saffron and Deboned Chicken, Mayonnaise,...( I know, I know ), Roasted Red Bell Peppers, a Hard Boiled Egg and Green Peas. Served with Sweet Plantains.

I absolutely love this location. It's always clean, and the decor is very nice. The food is always good, and unlike every other Carreta I've been to, the wait staff is extremely nice. Not that loud, Cuban, "chusma" personnel. Being Cuban myself, I absolutely hate the extremely loud ones (yes we are all loud, but some just take it to a whole other level, the Hialeah location is infamous for this). If you want good, affordable, Cuban food in a nice location with a nice staff, this is your place!

With limited time and craving Cuban food, I asked the hotel front desk clerk for a recommendation and she directed me to La Carreta. When trying someplace new, I tend to go with the specials, since it avoids the angst of dealing with some waitstaff who try to upsell the so-so stuff. The special was Tasajo, a salted shredded beef with white rice. The meat was tender and filling and there was a lot of it, but underwhelming on taste. The plantains and the garlic bread it came with were excellent, however. The Cuban coffee was a bit sweeter than I like, but it still hit the post-meal spot. I took a dessert to go, the tres leches recommended by the waitress, rather than the guava cheesecake that sounded better to me. Maybe I waited too long to eat it (the next day, actually) but it was pretty blah. I've had better tres leches elsewhere. Overall, this is not the best place I've been to for Cuban food, but it still served its purpose and satisfied the craving. The service was quick, the food was hot, and the wait staff was very attentive, but not overly so.

This place has good solid Cuban food. If you are in Miami, or in neighboring Miramar I suggest that you stop by and try out out their food. They also have a side window where you can order cafe con leche and pastries. I am a big fan of strong Cuban style coffee and they do not disappoint. Today I had the pork chunks with yellow rice and black beans. It was inexpensive and delicious. They do not over season the food. The staff is attentive and friendly.

Never thought I'd be reviewing La Carreta... because really, it's La Carreta. If you grew up in Miami, you know what it's all about. Some people call it the "fast food" of Cuban food (although a step up from Pollo Tropical)... but before this last experience, I really had nothing bad to say about this location. I've been here countless times over the years. Never really had a problem. Then I tried to grab a late dinner on a weeknight with a large group. Try finding a place to feed a group of 10+ that has just spent several hours visiting family at the hospital.... Yeah, not easy. We called around to find a place that would serve food around 10pm... and ended up here. While we all left fed... it wasn't that easy. Several of us had to resort to our second choice of entree, because the first entree wasn't available. They had run out of several items... and when the food finally did arrive, it was cold. It was obvious that the kitchen staff was unhappy that we rushed in before closing time and tried to make all sorts of orders. But you're a restaurant... don't serve me a cup of room temperature beans. I hope it was just a one time fluke... but I don't plan on finding out anytime soon.

Really sorry excuse for cuban food and service. Service is horrible, really it's not my fault I am making you do your job and take my order. The food is mediocre at best, theres better places in the area. Don't waste your time.

This has to be one of the worst La Carreta around. Starting with stale and not hot mariquitas. Would it be too much to ask to have them made to order? It's not that complicated. Then the frozen calamari was just dry and rubbery. The snapper was free of seasoning as well. It took for ever to get water over to our table after we had to wave down someone to help us. This isnt the first subpar meal we've had at this particular location but we thought we'd give them another shot. So much for that.

I was going to school around that area, I came here with a friend during lunch break to eat. Honestly it was whatever, the customer service was pretty decent it wasn't to bad, the food on the other hand was really greasy. I ordered yellow rice with chicken, the rice looked burned and as if they drenched it with oil and stuck it in the microwave. My friend ordered churrasco, needless to say it was to bloody... I guess that day the cooks had there heads somewhere else. You can tell the workers that day were not in there game at all. But hey every business has it day. Would i recommend it um... sure I guess.

The location is very nice, you literally walk into a colonial style decor that you find in more expensive places. The food is ok, I had better (specially Polo Norte). The thing I order the most in here is breakfast, is really good and I don't find expensive less than $5 for scrambled eggs, creole potatoes, tostada and cafe con leche you can't beat that! (tostada, way too crispy-hard though) . I agree with other reviewers that the food can be better but the food is just ok.

I was visiting South Florida from Colorado and wanted to try Cuban food - while I don't know that this is really representative of the cuisine, it was pretty tasty and I felt like I got a generally decent introduction. I felt like the best part of the meal was the fried yuca we had for appetizer and the plantain chips - the chips were really nice, light, and crunch with the lime juice and the yuca surprisingly airy. The entrees, while decent, were rather forgettable. While I don't know that it's a really authentic/gourmet Cuban place, it's someplace easy to check out and get to.

This comment is only for the Cafeteria Window, The service is great, the Pastelitos are still yet the best in town, prices are very reasonable. I came here every morning for 2 weeks straight while I was in town. Would come back here over and over...

So I think I like to punish myself but its really me being lazy and not having the option of another Latin cafe 2 minutes from the house. Either way, I called an order in on Sunday for pickup and I was told no orders can be placed on weekends, only the breakfast buffet was in service. So note to self, no take out orders on the weekends!!! so much for breakfast in bed.... :-\

I've done brunch here - really good, lots to chose from. I've tried their rum cake, and ham and cheese empanadas, also really good, but the main reason I come here is to have a Colada. I love those. Don't even know why they give you those little cups for, who's crazy enough to share that. Not me!

It's been too long since my first visit here. Usually after a tough long workout my friends and I would come in and shut it down. I always get the steak and eggs and have never once had a problem with anything. I only wish the employees were a little more fluent in English. Seeing how I have been trying new things next time I stop in I'll try something new and let you know how that is. All I can say about La Carreta is more, more, more. Thanks. But I won't try the cafe con leche my friend drank 1 and it was like 5 hour energy on steroids.

Ah, the deliciousness that is cheap, Cuban, caffeinated...and possibly fried. I understand that there's an actual inside portion to La Carreta (West Miramar location). This review is not about that. It's about the slightly old world experience of sitting outdoors and almost forgetting that you're in the land of strip malls (and possibly IN one; I could never tell). The outside operation is basic. There are two windows at which you order and from which the deliciousness comes. And there are glass cases for you to see the deliciousness. There's no menu, no board, just a glass case of yum. On my first occasion, I let Jason F. order for us...and order...and order...and order. Sadly, I won't remember the names of everything we got. But I will try. We had multiples of a couple of these: - jamon croquetas - gooey, fried, ham and cheese...perfectly fried and perfectly yummy - empanada (fried, beef) - juicy, flavorful beef inside - some guava filled (still warm!) pastry - flaky, fruity goodness. I didn't know I liked guava - some dulce de leche creation dusted with powdered sugar - Sweet Lord, I might have gotten diabetes eating this. Is this dulce de leche synonymous with "crack?" And then there's the crowning achievement: the perfect cafe con leche. I had it twice: once with the feast above and another time in which we just came for the coffee. It's creamy, caffeinated, perfection. And it's old world. There are old, Cuban men smoking, talking about politics, and possibly playing dominoes. And it's the cheapest way you'll make it to Cuba (and legal!). I think for all of that list above (with some multiples, remember) and two coffees, we might have made it to $17.00. Can I have a La Carreta next door to me in NYC now, please?

What I ate: Picadillo with white rice and plantains (lunch special) I came here after hearing rave reviews from co-workers, but my experience didn't live up to the hype. If Denny's and a Cuban restaurant were to get together and have a baby, that baby would be La Carreta. The food portions will fill your tummy and keep you full until dinner time, but don't expect to be blown away if you have a discerning palate. On the bright side, the waitress was quite friendly. Side note: They have menus in Spanish and English, so don't be afraid to ask for it in a different language if you find yourself lost in your current one.

Greeted and seated promptly. Very open/spacious environment. Ordered the Guava BBQ chicken. 10/10. Rice was preped with veggies unlike other places that just give you simple rice. Was informed that it was cook-to-order and eta was on point. Friendly service from my waitress. Loved it. Way better than La Granja and La Parrilla. Will return.

Service was bad. The table was not set at all, it only had one set of utensils for the two of us. It took a while to order the food and then over 30 minutes to get our two sandwiches. It honestly shouldn't take that long. One order of fries was cold, the other was given to us after we had finished our sandwiches. I haven't had this bad of an experience at La Carreta before, but I'm never going back there again unless their service improves.

Yum Yum Yum ! Love the chicken here, the arroz imperial is soooooooo delicious! And the chicken with rice is great too The negatives, every now and then ill have a terrible waitress who comes by once and you never get refills, and we all know one bad experience is enough to never come back. So if you experienced this, give it another try ! Enjoy the delicious food ;)

La Carreta doesn't need our reviews. It has earned a place in the Miami restaurant food chain close to the top. Whether down on 8th, or at the American Airlines terminal at MIA, or yes, even in West Miramar, the Carreta chain will deliver it's tasty Cuban food with reliability. Fine. I wish the service were better at this West Miramar location, located just off exit 7A of 75 on Miramar Pkwy. It's not that the service is actually "bad" or uniformed, it just feels a little uninterested. In that, I mean I don't feel special when I dine there. I like to feel special, dammit. They're busy, I get it. Luckily, the food speaks for itself. I don't need the love of any waiter or waitress to savor every last bite of La Carreta's ajiaco. (tropical soup). Available as a daily special on Tuesdays, this soup is one of my favorite things in all of Miami. I will leave it to the Cubans and Colombians to duke it out over which country can claim true ownership of this dish. Other favorites of mine at Carreta are the picadillo (maybe overcooked sometimes) and all of the sandwiches. Of note is the Elena Ruz, a turkey, strawberry jam and cream cheese delight. Legend has it that Elena Ruz, a high society debutante for which the sandwich is named, would stop at this little all-night restaurant in Havana after a night of dancing. She asked the waiter if they would fix her this sandwich to her liking. After that, she would always ask for the "Elena Ruz Sandwich" and that's how it is now known. At this location at least, La Carreta offers up a surprisingly good bar service, too, with good mojitos and, as expected, the desserts are wonderful. The coconut flan is my favorite. This Carreta also has a cute outdoor cafe. It's very simple and a good place to eavesdrop on elderly gentlemen and their opinions of life and world events. The coffee is perfect and, rumor has it that sometimes some of NBC6's hottest reporters (the studio is steps away) can be spotted ordering up a coffee to go. You can name my hurricane ANY time, Ryan Phillips.

True gourmet Cuban food! Beats Bongo's! (Sorry Gloria) There is nothing negative you can say about the food here. I believe anyone that has gone there has loved the true flavors that have made this a favorite for many. It's not an overly dressy setting but you also won't see those individuals that you would usually see at a smaller chain. It has become a family favorite since the family has gotten tired of putting in all the effort to create what you can just sit down and enjoy. I love this place and can never get enough of the authentic and home style meals.

We decided to eat here after my folks decided it was a cuban food night. The structure is new and decorated nicer than any other La Carreta I've seen. The hostess sat us promptly and our party was sat in a table in the rear.We reviewed our menus and decided on an appetizer. We didn't see our server for about 10 minutes. I was really close to talking to the hostess but didn't want to make an issue of it. When he finally arrived to our table, we placed in our appetizer orders and drink orders. 15 minutes later, he showed up with our soft, room temperature, plantain chips. Not good. We placed our entree orders and the waiter repeated our orders to us for verification. After about 20 minutes, the meals arrived and the server dropped them off. And that was it. We didn't see our server the rest of the night until he came to pick up our plates. No busboys, other servers or managers walking around to check up on guests. The portions were huge and the meal itself was good. But there was no follow-up service at all. The table next to us received a basket of bread when they were greeted which made us realize we didn't get any bread. I wondered if our server thought the huge portions would keep us busy and not require his attention. The restaurant was not packed so it's not like our server should have been overwhelmed. Everyone was pleased with their meal but it could not overshadow the poor service that was received.

There's really nothing that stands out from this place. The food is decent and the service is good, but Miramar sometimes feels like it lacks more flavor so when you're really in the mood for a Cuban cuisine, this place hits the spot.

Coming from Houston I was craving Cuban food since we have so little. This place was a disappointment. The plantains and tostones were hot and tasty. I got the ropa vieja and it wasn't even warm when it arrived. Also it seemed to be lacking spices - it was very underwhelming. It wasn't crowded and the service wasn't good- my waitress was being talking and hanging out by the bar- I had to wave her down when I wanted her.

I love this restaurant. It's simple Cuban food served in a great home-y atmosphere. The restaurant has a very clean and modern decor, with several smaller "rooms" and a large bar. There's even a pretty waterfall in the center of the largest room. While the restaurant is modern, it's amusing how the staff dresses in more traditional style - ruffled blouses and guayabera-esque shirts. Speaking of service - I don't understand all the complaints about the waitstaff in some of the previous reviews. I've been here dozens of times and always found the waitstaff to be prompt, efficient, and friendly. They'll remember you after a couple visits and treat you extra special. Onto the food! I'm a simple girl, so I confess that most visits, I just order a sandwich - medianoches, Elena Ruz, the Calle Ocho, croqueta sandwiches - they're all yummy. Don't ask why something as simple as a medianoche is better here, it just is. However, the rest of their entrees are equally great. The picadillo is perfectly seasoned, and the plaintain pie, though it sounds weird (plantains and beef) is super delicious. Trust me on this. Most of the entrees come with a side, like moros or platanos maduros (my personal fav!). The portions are generous, and prices are more than reasonable. You can get out of here for under $30 for two entrees, two desserts, and two cafe con leches. Oh, speaking of the desserts - they're all to die for! I normally don't expect much out of desserts (not a fan of flan and some of the more traditional desserts), but these are amazing. I am slowly working my way through their dessert menu with each visit and haven't been disappointed yet. My two top favorites are the dulce de leche pudding and guava cheesecake. The pudding is very rich and sweet (not for the faint of dessert-heart) and the cheesecake is soft and creamy - and how can you go wrong with anything guava? Go here for great, simple Cuban food - it's as authentic as it gets.

I am NOT a fan of La Carreta because, even though their food is ok, their service usually SUCKS!!! pardon my language. Went to this location the other night with the family after a long day at work. We were all hungry and tired and were just looking forward to a good meal. I was outnumbered by the rest and they chose this place. We were taken to a table in the bar area and it was freezing there so we asked to be moved somewhere else where we wouldn't become icecles. The girl took us to another location and we sat at a booth. We had Sury as our waitress and she started pretty nice. Placed an order for some "croquetas" up front and our food. We had our water and our bread and were chatting away when we realized that, after quite some time, we still didn't have our croquetas. So we search for Sury and ask for them but, I guess she didn't like our question because she said in a not so nice tone "I will go get them". COME ON PEOPLE!!! it's four little croquetas!!! it doesn't take for ever to get them and the place wasn't full at all. Our food finally came out and it was mostly good except for my son's plate which was "bistec de palomilla" and it looked and felt more like a rubber sole. So we went searching for Sury again and ordered something else. My husband and son love La Carreta for it's food but their service is just HORRIBLE.

I am really glad they brought this amazing cuban experience up to broward. The food is still really good, I would for sure say the Miami locations have better food, but if I want cuban food in broward county I know where I am going. It is a lot more chill and relaxed than the Miami locations, which I think is good for people who are not used to the cuban culture and I have noticed that every person on the staff speaks english, which is helpful for those who don't know spanish. Also, this location has the great perk of an awesome bar. Great drinks, friendly bar tenders, and their happy hour is awesome. I highly suggest the original and the mango mojito. Enjoy!

Visited on a Sunday morning, almost noon. We were worried the food might not be fresh (from the previous day). We were definitely proven wrong. I had the best churrasco I've eaten - ever. Perfect seasoning, med-well done to perfection. Delicious! My husband had vaca Frita, which He really enjoyed Looking forward to our next visit!!

My grandmother was in town and asked me to take her for Cuban breakfast. This place is close to my home but for some reason, I never really had the desire to try it. I always go to another Cuban place nearby which serves delicious food. I really don't know why I chose this place on this day but I know now that I will absolutely NEVER return! First, let me start by saying that my grandmother lives in a small town where southern hospitality is top notch. We arrived and were seated almost immediately but that is the only time I can use the word immediately in this story because after the seating was done absolutely nothing else took place until I finally got up to complain. There were other families that arrived after us and shortly after they were seated their waitress (there were 2 waitresses) took their order, brought out their coffee, water etc. We were still sitting there waiting for a waitress to even acknowledge us. No one ever even made eye contact. Finally, after I became restless in my seat and clearly annoyed and impatient, a woman, who was leaning in an archway looking over at our table, came and took our order. Long story short, 40 minutes after arriving and being seated, we still didn't even have coffee and water on our table, let alone food! I walked to the hostess station and asked for a manager and it seems the staff was alerted of this. Suddenly our food came out very quickly, almost in a haste! At this exact moment, the manager came over to our table and before I could even say anything, he began apologizing and taking our plates off the table. He did this because it was clear, just by looking at the food, that it was hard and ice cold! Even the coffee was cold! He asked if he could please allow the chef to prepare the food again but we refused anymore service and left because my grandmother had to be at the train station. I was embarrassed for bringing my grandmother here and my grandmother just looked sad. She said she thought she was back in the civil rights era! I don't know if we were treated this way because of our skin color. I certainly hope not in this day and age although I know it's not impossible. My grandmother felt that was the reason and she even wept a little bit in the car. No food review here because I never ate a morsel but the service was really, really bad!

Don't know what all the negative reviews are about... Too me the food was delicious (fried pork chunks) and the service was completely adequate. If course the food is going to bee a little greasy, that's what you've ordering. Not sure why people are counseling a place for their streaks when it's obviously not a steakhouse... Get some dang Cuban food! Why bother going otherwise?

I agree with a couple of the negative reviews. The service leaves a lot to be desired and the dining area needs to be re-painted. Unfortunately, they are sitting on their laurels, because of the established name. The food is still good. However don't go there expecting 5* star treatment. At the very least, the restaurant should be updated and have the appearance of cleanliness. Come on guys, this is Miramar, not the MIA airport !

After enjoying the hype of Versailles, loving Las Vegas, and hearing good things about La Carreta, I decided to try out the Miramar branch of this local chain. While the food was OK, the service left something to be desired. We saw our server three times the entire evening - once to take orders, once to refill water, and once to drop off the check. Anything else took a wave to a busboy or busgirl. Our bread was forgotten, water was not refilled, and overall the service was indifferent. Food wise, the Palomino Steak was decent, as was the Shredded Beef. However, I'd recommend Las Vegas for more consistent service and Versailles for atmosphere.

Boy was this place just awful. The only good thing really was the pricing, very fair. But I have a slew of items that really bothered me. The noise level was extremely loud, probably because the entire restaurant was tiled, most of the servers did not speak a word of English, the food was medicore, the vegetables were cold, the salad looked like something out of a cafeteria case, the salad dressing was actually given to me in a packet, and they did not serve brown rice, which is a staple for me. I've had a lot better Cuban food before. Havana's blows this place away. I had to give it a try, but I don't think I would go back, unfortunately, unless they improve on these things.

Been here 3 times when visiting my relatives who live in West Park. Absolutely love this place. The black beans are to die for, YUM :D Had the Galician soup, which is great and also the Garbanzo soup as well. Had one of the samplers this time, scrumptious. That included Ropa Vieja and the Pork chunks, sooooo delicious. It came with maduros, also very delicious. Even though this is a chain restaurant the food is fabulous and the service impeccable. The ambience is simply delightful. I have been told there are other Cuban restaurants that are better, I'm not sure it can get any better than this. Next time I'm in Florida I'll have to investigate a little further.

Reasonably priced food. Large portions. Good service. Great place to have Cuban food. My fave: Paella Carretera (seafood paella), a dish meant for 2, was sooo good, as a smallish female, I can finish it off at the table...every...time. I have yet to find paella as good as the one at this location anywhere else. YUM!

I never have liked Cuban food, until I came here. We tried it on a friends suggestion and came away with a totally differnet perspective on Cuban food. This was actually yummy stuff. Very generous servings and suprisingly cheap. Expect to have enough left overs for 1-3 more meals. Atmosphere is upscale, staff was friendly and very attentive. Clean. I just wish Cuban food had more vegetables! I've been to a couple other La Carreta restaraunts and this is hands down, the nicest one. Atmosphere is very classy compared to the others.

I love Cuban food and I would definitely give this La Carreta location a solid 4 stars. They have an amazing bistec de palomilla unlike most Cuban restaurants. Their arroz con pollo is never a disappointment and with a side of maduros it's the perfect meal. The service is usually pretty good but sometimes they can be a little slow. If you order your food to go it's usually ready in about 15 minutes and the quality of the food is exactly the same.
