I happened to be walking past China Star last night on my way to Publix when Steven called and said he was thinking of picking up Chinese from our usual spot. I told him I'd duck in here since I was literally 3 steps away. I placed my order and then ran into Publix so there was no wait time for me. One large eggdrop soup (I wasn't very hungry) and one medium sized house lo mein for him. When I got home I happily started slurping on my soup. The initial bite was very "eggy", more so than I am used to, but it didn't stop me from finishing half the container. Steven ate less of his lo mein than usual and said it was "meh" when I asked him. I tried a bite and agreed it wasn't anything special. The color of the noodles was a bit different than we're used to and it seemed as though this was extra Americanized. The location is great for me since I'm often at this Publix as it's next to my Orange Theory, so I won't write off giving them another try, but there wasn't anything special. PROS - quick, average prices to competitors and the portions were quite large. CONS - taste was a bit off.

This was a waste. Everything looked good and my wife liked hers but mine was awful. I go 3 items. 1. Hot and sour soup. It was burned. They must have had the temp too high and failed to stir it because all I could taste is burned tofu. 2. Honey garlic. This is my favorite of favorite dishes but there is an easy way to see if they make it well. The honey has to be cooked in a wok onto the fried chicken chunks. The thing is that if done right the crispy shell will remain crispy. If they use too little honey, too much water, or don't cook it down enough then the chicken will get soggy. So to avoid this places that can't make it correctly will serve the sauce on the side which just ruins the whole thing for me. I got sauce on the side. 3. Pork Lo Mein. This wasn't bad. I it had flavor and was hot. It was a little oily but not enough to deter me. If I have to order from here again, I will get this again next time. But I will not order food from here again if I can help it.

As good of a typical Chinese takeout as you're going to get. The people that answer the phone speak perfect English, and let's be honest, that makes it easier on everyone.

Nice sized shrimp in the lobster sauce entrée and also the fried jumbo shrimp is of nice size compared to china taste on university. Online ordering is a must for me. I wouldn't consider going to a Chinese takeout without it these days. The service is fast and consistent. One negative I've found is the rice. I ordered pork fried rice from china star and number one wok on Stirling road and number one wok rice is more moist while china star is dryer. To me the rice is main attraction of any Chinese takeout so you have to get it right. UPDATE MAY: Tried the steamed dumplings and they were good. The sauce that comes with it was salty as hell. The rice is still a bad experience. It was lumpy(mash potatoes style), dry and seemed to have a leftover taste to it. Number one wok seems to have these guys beat when it comes to rice.

OK I keep giving China Star many chances but it's still the same China Star I know that has the same shitty CHINESE food. This is not CHINESE food it's not authentic or delicious they always serve raw food. The Crab Rang Goon was so overcooked and really dry the staff doesn't care at all this is just what happened at the China Star location in Coral Springs but unfortunately that one had a dead roach in it and that location has a rude staff who won't bother to freaking throw away a roach. Most locations don't have tables but this one does but for reviewer GEORGE L who has unrecommended 4 reviews says I can't stop wondering but for reviewer Ivette R how do u find a table in China Star and who won't give up a roach for crying out loud oh really like that location doesn't have tables yes it does have tables u psycho did u even notice that there is tables right in front of your face and yes GEORGE L I have been there a bunch of times and he just sends me a compliment calling me dude OK first of all u don't call a girl dude don't be friends with that yelper he's a bad influence and if you're wrong about something he'll just post your name on yelp and just won't stop wondering about the review it's a review stop making such a big deal about it.Anyway this location is bad but not as bad as the Coral Springs one.The Dumplings are rancid and disgusting as shit worst Dumplings I've ever had I will never go back to China Star in my life and this time I mean it I've had it with this place it's always been a big stupid disappointment.Theres millions of CHINESE Restaurants in Miami and in Broward County u will find much better CHINESE places than this dump don't go here yelpers except if u wanna listen to GEORGE L or if u want to have a rude person taking your order don't listen to GEORGE L or go here this restaurant is a disgrace to CHINESE food fuck China Star and their food yucky

This place isn't really on Hollywood Blvd. - It is actually in the shopping center behind Target w/ the Publix. It is a little place with a couple of benches and tables but I got my food to-go---- Everything we ate was pretty good and I'll probably stop by again since it is so close to my office. I doubt I would go out of my way for it though.

I was amazed that South Florida has a lack of good and authentic Chinese restaurants, especially considering the population density and good climate. Check Yelp for the Ft Lauderdale area and find a Chinese restaurant that gets good marks from locals and visitors alike. You will have a difficult time. China Star had a fairly good number of good reviews and I was craving Chinese, so I gave it a shot. I ordered hot & sour soup, fried dumplings and Szechuan shrimp and took the order back to the hotel. The soup was ok, but nothing special. It could have used some more vinegar and/or pepper to make it stand out. The dumplings were nondescript and a bit on the greasy side and lacking in flavor. I wish I had listened to other reviews and opted for the vegetable dumplings instead of the meat stuffed variety. The szechuan shrimp was a gloppy mess, emulating the worst of Americanized Chinese food, little flavor, no garlic, no ginger, no heat but lots of starch and grease. After dining in Chinese restaurants in areas with great Chinese places such as Boston, LA and San Fran, this was a big let down.

We've been ordering from here since we discovered them over a year ago - The food here is consistently good. We usually get delivery and they are fast and everything is HOT when it arrives. They also are happy to make substitutions (ex-spring roll for egg roll) unlike most other Chinese food restaurants in South Florida.

Twice I asked for no MSG and both times they they added MSG. They didn't use to add it but I don't know what's happened that they are now even if you tell them not to.

In my opinion, the best NY style Chinese restaurant in all of Hollywood! Nobody in the surrounding neighborhood does fried chicken quite like these guys. very affordable too! they also take credit cards as well, just at a $10 min. call to be sure though.

The food is delicious. The rushed nature of the staff is the only reason why this place lost a star for me but I have never had any complaints about the actual food. The service is quick and that is definitely a huge plus for takeout.

Considering its a Fast Food / Chinese Takeout type spot, I must say not only is the place clean but the food is deelish, my favorite item on the menua is the veggie dumplings - ORDER THEM. Yum Yum.

My favorite delivery Chinese restaurant, though they apparently have an actual restaurant you can actually go to as well. ;) The combo specials are a great deal - full meal with rice and soup or egg roll. The food is always hot when it's delivered and the delivery folks are always nice.

The ability to order online is very convenient as well as the fact that they're open later than most Chinese joints. Probably one of the better restaurants for take out outside of NYC.

The food here is delicious....taste better NY Style chinese food. Unlike any other places in Hollywood I've been to where their food lacks taste. I love their rice and their crab ragoons!!

If you're standing right out front its worth the trip. Sad weak attempt at mediocre chinese food. I won't even go into detail about what I had suffice to say it was not worth writing about. They got 2 stars because whoever answered the phone spoke clear English and the food was ready when promised and it was hot. Get your Chinese food somewhere else.

NEVER AGAIN HORRIBLE FOOD !!!!!!!!Horrible service !!! I just ordered a pepper steak onion deliver to my office and The Meat was RAW disgusting taste !!!! I called them to let them know and so they can refund me my money but they said NO they have to see the food in person to make sure I didn't eat it but obviously I threw the food away since it was bad. I am not digging in the trash and since this office always orders from them after that customer service denying to refund the money for RAW MEAT we are not ordering ever again from them !!!!!!!!!!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
