This is by far the best Puerto Rican food in South Florida always consistent the staff is friendly. The food is AMAZING BRING THE FAMILY just be prepared to wait

We love this place! Every time we head to South FL if we are close enough we visit this restaurant to get our Cuban food fix. Normally we order monfongo, chicken, garlic Cuban bread, their house made sangria, and beef dishes. The meat and sauces are flavorful and delicious! Also El Ricconcito offers a children's menu with chicken fingers and a couple other kid friendly options. Nobody will leave hungry. This restaurant is family run and run well. Food comes out relatively quickly and served in large portions. We always leave with to go boxes. Cannot wait to come back to South FL again so we can get some more Cuban deliciousness.

This restaurant is a staple for Hialeah. The proof is Sunday nights! There was a large birthday, live music, and the food was circulating! The Mofongo is always a hit and always on point! Service is quick and snappy so you better know what you want. El Rinconsito offers affordable prices and great portions. Definitely wallet-friendly and full of flavor.

So it's probably embarrassing to admit that I have never had mofongo even after living most of my life here and in New York, where many of my Puerto Rican friends reside. Well, that all changed when I came to El Rinconcito, the unassuming Puerto Rican/Cuban joint in the heart of Hialeah and also conveniently off of the Palmetto. I tried this mofongo business with a nice side of pork chunks. Holy heaven! Was it delicious. I couldn't finish the whole thing so I took it home for grandma to devour. On Thursday it's on special. $8.50 I believe. And it could feed you twice if you don't binge eat it like others at our table did. My only word of advice - pace yourself. You'll be in a food coma for the rest of the day otherwise.

Not sure why there are bad reviews for Rinconcito. I love coming here! The vibe is always popping. Live music on Saturday, good food, and good prices. Pollo, Mofongo, puerco, bistec, churrasco, breakfast, cafecito. It's all good. Can't go wrong!

I came here with my wife on November 1, 2014. I mention this because it was quite an unusually cold day in Miami. You know a restaurant is good when even in the cold and windy day there are people waiting outside to go in. We gave our name at the door, waited a little while, and were seated. The restaurant was really busy that evening, and I did not realize that my seat was in an area used by the staff to walk by. The evening got to a little bit of a shaky start, we were told that if we order the sangria by the carafe it would be cheaper per glass. This was not the case. Felt a little deceived here. But the sangria was good, we drink it all. I ordered "baca frita" (fried cow), it came with some rice beans and mofongo. When my dinner was arrived it was oxtail stew. I notified the waitress that this was not what I ordered, she looked at me as if I had seven horns sticking out of my head. My order was finally corrected and delivered and all of the food was absolutely delicious. My wife had ordered some grilled chicken, which came with rice beans and mofongo. All I heard from her were sounds of approval. Overall the food was really good the service was so-so. This was probably due to the fact that this place was really busy on Saturday night. if you're ever in Miami, it's worth checking out.

Ok let me clarify that the one star is only for the service, they were friendly. Now that we've gotten that out of the way let me inform you on quite possibly the worst "Puerto Rican" food I've ever had. In no way shape or form is this authentic Puerto Rican food, they're imposters. Extremely disappointing! I knew we were in trouble when the waitress put the "Cuban" bread on the table. First Red Flag! Second Red Flag they didn't have Bacalaítos! With both warnings we still decided to stay for lunch, big mistake. I ordered a basic Puerto Rican dish, "Lechon, Arroz con Guandules and maduros" as simple as that sounds they ruined it! Cold pork, a horrible poor excuse for rice, and uncooked, enormously sliced plantains. The rice had so much crap in it I thought it was fried rice! I've never in my life had Arroz Con Guandules with so much junk in it (I'll post a pic) The "Chuleta Can Can" is a gigantic pork chop that will cost you 23$ and mostly covered in fat. The Mofongo was horrible possibly the worst we've had. Clearly the problem is they have a Cuban guy trying to cook Puerto Rican food, and although there's nothing complicated about PR food you do need that Puerto Rican flavor which is definitely lacking here. Since we were still hungry after the lunch we decided to try the desserts. One coconut flan which wasn't bad and one Tembleque also pretty good. Actually the best part of our meal. Overall I rate this place a F+ horrible food. Side note : parking is almost as bad as their food.

Went in for a late dinner with a party of 7 people and we had a great time! We ordered the Puerto Rican appetizer platter that includes pastel, mofongo, pionono, alcapurria, morcilla, and fried pork medallions. I had the mofongo with shrimp in red sauce and it was good! The mofongo was soft and didn't have too much garlic, which I appreciate. The veggies were great but not enough shrimp. I think I counted only 3. The passion fruit juice (parcha) is more of a smoothie than the natural juice and is already sweetened. Oh, and to my surprise, as I was signing the check, the lights went out. At first, I thought they were just being rude and closing but then the loud music came on and they were singing happy birthday to someone. With a conga line and all. My friends and I got up and danced as well. Definitely a fun experience!

Customer Service: Had the waitress who took my order actually listened to what I said, "Quiero probar varias cosas" (I want to taste several things,) this easily would've been a five star review. I was kept limited and somewhat abandoned while there. My order was taken, I was brought my food, I never interacted with them again until I had to flag one of the waitresses down for a flan and my bill. One of the waitresses, I was being helped by two, sat down at a table not far from me to engage in LOLable conversations with other staff members. Meanwhile, I needed more water and really would've enjoyed another beer. Again, I wanted to try several Puerto Rican favorites. Something as customary as asking if I wanted a shot of Espresso after my meal never happened. How is my meal, would you like anything else....NADA! Puerto Rican Food: The Puerto Rican and Cuban Culture are so similar that even the Nation's Flag can be easily mistaken by an untrained eye. For those that don't know, the American Island has the same stripe colors as America. The foods are almost identical except for name changes on dishes and some variations when prepared. You don't want to say this out loud in South Florida because you will start an all out Caribbean War in Miami. Both Islands boast on how much better one is over the other. Honestly? If you are dropped off blindfolded on either Island, you won't be able to tell the difference of where you are until you see a McDonald's. It is that similar. Out of all the Hispanic Countries I have visited in the Caribbean, Cuba and Puerto Rico are the most alike. Usually, in My Yelp Reviews, this is the point where I rant forever on details of what to expect. Unfortunately, I was given no chance. Therefore, allow me to return the favor in this review by not saying a damn thing. This is simple Customer Service not Rocket Science. For that, whenever I'm in the mood for Mofongo again, I will drive somewhere else outside of Hialeah. Doubtful that I will be returning here based on this one experience. They are not the only ones that serve Mofongo. The only thing I'm going to say for you to note: * This restaurant serves both Cuban and Puerto Rican Dishes. Again, both are very similar. I thought it was cute how some of the authentic Puerto Rican Dishes were noted with Their Flag. You have to earn these Stars on Yelp. To date, this is the worse Customer Service I have experienced at a Local Restaurant.

I have heard from several people that this place is great however that was not my experience. When we arrived the place smelled and looked clean. It was busy but we were seated immediately. We ordered a Tamal con chicharrón appetizer that was out pretty quickly however as soon as we finished it our waitress came with our meal. Don't get me wrong, had I ordered anything else it wouldn't have surprised me but I ordered a Sopon de Mariscos (seafood stew). It was luke warm. I'm sorry but if it's not incredibly hot it's not fresh. I learned that the hard way as it made me sick and I spent the entire night in the restroom. My boyfriend ordered the Mofongo con Masitas and that was just warm also. I mentioned it to the waitress but all she said was 'sorry'. I was very disappointed, to say the least.

The food is very distinctive. Varies for each person. It was very delicious for me. The meat was great the side with pork skin is yummy too. They have very large portions so we took some home, and realized that it only tastes good hot. Totally authentic place. Cause we spoke English, we had to wait ten minutes so the one specific server could wait on us. My favorite thing there: Piña Colada. I wish they could give me unlimited! yyyuuumm!

  • Carol M.

Excellent food and prices! I had the mofongo with pork chunks and it was delicious, large size and arrived very quickly. The tembleque was also very good, they put shredded coconut on top and it really took it to the next level. Will be coming back for more!!!

Great Cuban and Puerto Rican food. Today we had Delicious mofongo. Smashed cooked plantains with crispy pork skin (chicharron). Then you can add any other meat topping. I had garlic chicken and hubby had masas de puerco ( pork chunks). Started with shrimp stuffed tostones (plantains) but not a fav. Been here many times and will continue to come back.

  • Joel F.

This place is ok! Cuban mix with Puerto Rican food got to love it. I will definitely come back for dinner. Enjoyed the breakfast but eating mofongo does require a cardio workout for me! Love the place!

Food was ok but I can cook better . Drinks were not good at all. Don't waste your money in the drinks . I gave it a 3 star because they were attentive and the sorullos were good .

Came in for a late lunch today, and ordered the mofongo with churrasco. It was just the right amount of soft with great flavor. My bf had the chuleta which was good too. Service could've been a little better, but wasn't bad, but that's why the 4 stars. Good food, great price. Will be back :)

This place is totally amazing when it comes to Puertorican food. I came with a party of 14 to celebrate a friends birthday and the service was great. We drove 20 miles to get there but, it was worth the drive. My favor is the Mofongo. You have got to try it. One original thing they do which it's awesome it's when they sing Happy Birthday. The whole staff gets together to sing. I highly recommend it!!!

  • J V.

I also came to Yelp looking for recommendations on a Puertorican place to take a client who lived in Puerto Rico for a few years and to kill a few of my own puertorican cravings and after finding mostly 4 and 5 star reviews decided to try this place. One of the guys cleaning the tables took us to our table and brought a basket of bread. How was the bread you asked? It was stale. I'm sure the woven cord basket would have tasted fresher. Not a problem Fernando (my client), let's order a few beers, get appetizers and food. My friend ordered 2 croquetas which he didn't let me try, hopefully it was tasty and I got 1 masa alcapurria which did not look nor have the same texture as a puertorican alcapurria but, hey if you want authentic fly to PR, right? Now the food... We both ordered a Mofongo with Pollo al ajillo which should at least have a somewhat garlicky flavor, the chicken Al Ajillo I was served last night came in a pool of a slimy brownish sauce that I am 99% positive was chicken flavored base/paste. The mofongo had the pork cracklings piled up on top. Really? Anyone who cares a little bit about the food he/she is making would care to find out that the cracklings should be mixed into the plantain and formed into a mass. The cook was no careless that did not bother to remove the black and dried up tips of the plantains and threw them into the mix. Food Network material!! Needless to say I could not touch the chicken and the mofongo was eatible but by no means any good. I do have to say that the waitress was diligent and attentive but, the food shadowed the whole experience.

Inexpensive, exquisite homey Caribbean eatery. Another gem in continental Miami. Probably the very best mofongo in the USA.

  • Benjamin S.

How the mighty has fallen. This place was the go to place for family bday celebrations. The food has since been tasting not so good and stale. I had the vaca frita and it tasted like it had freezer burn and/or old. The prices as well, un pionono cost 7 bucks and a cortado to almost 3 bucks...wtf..

    (3)
  • Micheal M.

Everything I've ordered here has been good...but la crema de Malanga and the mofongo! Keep going back for more...

  • Diego D.

Came here with my wife, who is a great cook and she's Puerto Rican. We had alcapurrias and pionono for appetizer which were good but not great. Mofongo was also good but not great. My wife says it lacked garlic for more taste. I had chuletas Kan Kan which was also good but not great. Huge! She ordered fish soup "asopado" which she could not eat it was so bad. Service was fine and place had a nice atmosphere. I will go back as the place was overall good and there aren't many Puerto Rican restaurants. But if you're from Puerto Rico and grew up there, don't put your expectations too high and you'll be satisfied. But it's not "Raíces" in old San Juan.

Lets start of by saying the food arrived late and cold! I ordered at 11:19am and told them I wanted my food delivered just before noon at my lunch time. I called at 12:11 and the food hadn't even left the restaurant due. She said the take out orders where behind. I didn't get my food until 12:24pm. Well now on to the taste of the food. For the $10.59 I paid for this food it was cold. And not only that but the white rice had noo flavor whatsoever its like they didn't even had salt to the rice. Very disgusting and I will never order from there again. The only reason I decided to try this place was because the Polo Norte is closed on Monday's. Waste of money!!!! Stay away!!!

  • Cesar L.

No doubt this is the closest to Puerto Rican food that you will find around here. The Mofongo is not bad at all, however is not authentic Puerto Rican or Dominican Mofongo. This place has their own recipe and style for their Mofongo and that's honorable. This will be my 6th visit and I have to say it was probably the worse customer service experience compared to previous visits. The waitress simply took the order, served the food and disappeared. On my last visit 5 months ago, my waitress was the owner's sister and when she served the bread (not toasted with garlic as usual), I asked why they were not serving that delicious hot garlic bread anymore and she said her brother (owner) decided to take it off the menu. No particular reason for it, but that they would consider adding that back as part of their service. Well, 5 moths later it is still the same. Overall; service was poor and food tasty. I will wait a long time before returning here.

I love this place! Every time I go, I leave stuffed. I would recommend the Bandeja Boricua that includes two alcapurrias, one pastel, carne frita, mofongo, gandules y pionono it's big enough to feed two. The mofongo is out of this world. I always ask for extra chicharrones because I love the crunchiness. If you need to pick up a few beers or soft drinks to take home with you, they have a little convenience store on site. The only thing I don't like about the place is they have an older gentleman playing a piano which can be really loud and annoying, but all in all, great food. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth stopping for lunch or dinner.

Great place and atmosphere they had a live singer and band made me feel like i was in the barrio again felt like home. The food was great there was 10 of us and we tried everything and all of the food was great especially the mofongo. Someone had a bday and all the servers sang and danced to a latino birthday song ut as great. Next time i will fake my bday just so i can get that show for me !!

This is my absolute favorite restaurant. I have been coming here for years and have not found another Puerto Rican restaurant that even comes close to the authenticity of the food! The pasteles and mofongo tastes just like my grandmothers food. Will not go to another place besides my grandmothers home for Puerto rican food!

I hate mofongo. I loathe it. But after reading the reviews, I decided to try it. I must admit, It was pretty tasty. It is basically green plantains mashed with pig fat and garlic. What's not to love? Well, it's dry, and El Rinconcito decided to do something about that - they serve it with a side of chicken broth! I'm a white girl, and I don't know how I was supposed to eat it, so I took a spoonful of mofongo, dipped it in the broth, and ate. It was delicious. I ordered it as a special with pollo enchilada, which was pretty much chicken chunks in a red sauce. Not spectacular, but good. Cafe con Leche was spot on! Flan was perfect. And only 2 bucks since it was listed on the Tuesday Specials. Service was outstanding as well. My server was very nice and checked back regularly. I see other peeps had issues with the service, but looking around everyone was nice as could be.

This place is really good. i tried them out right after a trip to puerto rico and the food was very close to the amazing food i had in PR. The masitas de puerco were very tender and juicy. The mofongo was crispy yet soft with great flavor. The arroz con gandules were also very good. my daughter loved them and she's a huge rice and beans kinda gal. Im definitely a fan, i will be back for my mofongo fix quite frequently.

  • Jose R.

Unfortunately, I have noticed the quality of their food has gone down. I' m not sure if its the staff or the ingredients. The food no longer arrives piping hot, their black beans (my favorite) are rather soupy and bland, let's not mention the bread they serve, which taste stale. Overall, (except the fish) I got the impression that the food was reheated (tostones, rice and beans) . It's a shame, because this restaurant has always been one of my favorites.

During my last visit there this weekend, our server was so inattentive and slow that it really made for a less-than-enjoyable meal with my family and friends. She barely returned to the table unless we called her over. For example, she brought the appetizer and brought no small plates. We waited about 5 minutes for her to return with plates after we called her over. When the main course was brought to the table, I had to ask another server to please bring ketchup for my little girl's food before it got ice cold. Typically servers ask if there's anything else you need immediately when they serve your food. Not this one, she did an about face and didn't return for nearly 20 minutes. Meanwhile, we watched as she hung out casually by the door chatting with other employees. And we continuously had to ask someone else to bring whatever we needed. Poor service was an understatement! The food, however, saves the day and that is the only reason I am not giving it 1 star.

A delicious, savory offering of the BEST Cuban and Puerto Rican dishes that Hialeah has to offer. The atmosphere is lively and friendly- Birthdays are celebrated enthusiastically by staff with music and dancing. A+ for cleanliness, A ++ for food flavor, quality and portion size; and A++ for value. Service with a smile and nice owners.

1 star is too much to give this place!!! We waited for 2 and a half hours to be seated, checking with the host every 15 minutes to check how much longer, the host kept telling us we were next! But long story short, we never got a table because the host kept sticking his "friends" inside and giving them our table!!!!!!! DO NOT EAT IN THIS SAD EXCUSE FOR A RESTAURANT!

Just ordered delivery and the Mofongo sucked! It was more like Mangu, to' mongo y sin chicharon. Not good anymore.

  • Jessica W.

The best of both worlds: Cuba & Puerto Rico! My family is Cuban so we can always come here and know everyone will leave satisfied. I have tried the sorullos, pionono, mofongo con churrasco and they have all been delicious. However, I will admit that the star of the meal is always the quatro leches!!! Now i like my dessert to be sweet, but usually 4 leches are dry, but here they have perfected this dessert to make it moist, sweet and absolutely delicious. After finishing it you feel like you might need to inject yourself with insulin to lower your glucose levels, but it is so worth it. This is a friendly, family oriented establishment that serves up very generous portions. It's definitely a drive away from the beach, but you won't find food at this quality and these prices anywhere!

Good but nothing stood out to me. My fiancee really liked this place even after coming back from a trip to Puerto Rico. She was all about PR food, so I decided to give it a try. All i have to say is that it was ok and some things a lil less. Let's just say I won't be coming back to this place for mediocre food at best.

    (2)
  • Adam S.

The food here is Puerto Rican and Cuban, but not fusion (if that makes sense). The mofongo is clearly above average. I prefer my plantains a bit more firm, but that is just my personal preference. I had a few bites of the baby skirt steak and chimichurri and it was quite tender and flavorful. The cafe con leche was average. The waitress couldn't speak English and didn't make any attempts to do so. It made things marginally difficult, but we managed . Prices are perhaps a bit on the high side (around $30 for everything), but the food was good.

FINALLY!!!! It's been a year since I've been trying to find a restaurant in Miami with authentic Puerto Rican flavors and I found it here!!! This restaurant is my home away from home :) Starting with the appetizers there's nothing you can go wrong with but the ham croquettes are OUTSTANDING. My favorite plate is the mofongo filled chicken breast with a side of arroz con gandules. And every bite just taste better than the last one. My fiance always eats the pork chops and they are delicious too. And the flan...WOW...a must! I would say that the food is the best reason to visit the restaurant BUT the customer service is fantastic too! Not a single bad experience here; the staff is polite, attentive and very lively. I've been here six times in the past five months. Before you waste your time visiting restaurants like Jimmy'z Kitchen and/or Benny's make sure to stop by El Rinconcito!!

I truly get to experience my Puerto Rican culture here. The food is awesome. I came here for a birthday... And they sung happy birthday, it even came with a little dance. The prices are decent. A lot if food is served. The mofongo was delicious. This is a place to go when you want some authentic Puerto Rican food.

The place is very latin, as it's best on it's style. So tasteful that goes beyond cultures. I've been here al least 10-15 times, and I wouldn't like to think how many more times I'll come back to this place. Food is fresh and full of quality flavors. Service is very always charming. I'm latin and definitely a place with this quality of food and people is definitely something that pulls me back over and over again. You can't miss the "Mofongo con masitas de puerco" which means Mofongo with fried pork.

This was our second visit to this restaurant and the service this time around was extremely slow and poor. We went for lunch and it was not full. We waited about 20 minutes just to order our drinks and appetizers. The appetizer (alcapurria) took about another 20 minutes to arrive which is way too long for one item. I ordered the Churrasco and the server never asked how I wanted it cooked so when it came well done, I just dealt with it even though I prefer medium rare. The table next to us had to send their plates back twice so I assume the kitchen was having an off day. The waitress had a bit of an attitude from the beginning. She didn't smile once and she didn't check on us to see if we needed any other drinks. When the check came, I tried to pay with an AMEX gift card and the waitress said that they don't take gift cards because of how easy it is to steal??? I'm still thinking about that one because it makes no sense. The Amex logo was on the door so she should've accepted it. By not accepting it, she lost out on an extra five dollar tip so I saved 5 bucks. We will go back most likely but the next visit will be on a weekend when its busy.I assume that when its super busy, they don't have the opportunity to screw up.

I think this is the first time I am truly drooling while writing a review. I was on vacation in the Miami area and am ready to go back just for some mofongo and maybe some sun ;-) This place was recommended to me when I asked for something that was clean, authentic and affordable. I got that and much more. First, we got a huge batch of delicious plantain "chips". It was served with an oil based garlic dipping sauce and my goodness was it strong (lucky for me, I love strong flavors). We got Medalka beer which is light and from Puerto Rico. Then it was time for some SERIOUS mofongo. Being unfamiliar to Puerto Rican and Cuban cuisine, the waitress explained that the popular dish was a mix of plantains with bits of garlic, chicharrón (fried pork rinds) and other yummy things. I ended up getting the "pollo relleno" which was chicken stuffed with mofongo inside. The chicken was a hefty size and seasoned just right. The mofongo inside came with a sauce which reminded me of chicken broth. The plate also came with tasty rice and a modest salad. There was so much to eat that we had left overs for two meals to come! After reading the review below, I look forward to trying some sweet Cuban mofongo! And as another yelper mentioned, birthdays are a special treat for those who dine at El Rinconcito. You'll just have to see/hear it for yourself!

this place has changed a lot. I remember going there 10 years ago with my parents and it literally was a small rinconcito with over attentive staff, free mariquitas. Not anymore. Great mofongo, a little dry but I prefer it "pinton" style. THE BORIQUA FOOD IS ON POINT!!! Surullo was delicious. Omg Waitstaff is inattentive with regard to service. she didn't refill my water OR check on us, didn't give us extra napkins nothing. HOWEVER...The waitstaff is VERY slick with the upsells. they will ask you if you want this or that while you are ordering your entree and you will think it is part of your entree but then in reality you will see that was tacked on to your bill after the fact....so be careful. They do that to ring up your bill higher...so they can DEMAND the 15% gratuity that is suggested at the bottom of your receipt. When I handed my card to the waitress, she wanted to know how much she should add on as gratuity and pointed to the tip guidelines..She told me that 15% was the minimum I could tip. No bitch, gratuity is discretionary in my world. Sorry. so if I am in the mood for mofongo or Bori food I will definitely comeback but it won't be for the service, that's for sure.

Santa Barbara most be casting her good luck vodoo on this place! Service? you feel like you are in a cafeteria and the food an insult to latin cuisine. Simple dishes made horribly and obviously cheap on the ingredients. The only good thing this place has is the mofongo and masitas de puerco. But worth the drive NO. I rather do my own mofongo or go to Jimmy's

For Cubans, mofongo is fufu de platano. Instead of green plantains, we use ripe sweet plantains, which of course makes it sweeter and squishier. The first time I went I didn't like the mofongo. Then, I realized it was the way it was prepared, and how I am use to it. It was dry and I didn't like dipping it in the broth it came with. Again, not a Cuban thing. Second time I went I LOVED it. I had to ask for them to make it "PINTON". This is a mix of green plantains with sweet plantains. It may not be the traditional Puerto Rican way, but it added flavor, and made it a lot less dry. I like the mofongo stuffed chicken. Yum! They also do the best BIRTHDAY celebrations. I won't say what they do but they make you want to get up and dance. At least on weekends when its full. :)

So this is the first time eating at this restaurant. I was recommended by my gf who accompanied me. As good as the food was the service was terrible! Our waitress was slow and rude. She messed up on the order and said that I asked for the pork mofongo. When I had ordered for the churascco mofongo. I mean I was fine eating the pork, but just for this waitress to keep lying and telling me and my girlfriend that I had ordered pork had ruined my experience at this restaurant.

Okay, I've been here over 20 times in my lifetime. Very homey feel to it. The waitresses could be nicer, I've encountered both extremes of moods. The mofongo is definitely amazing! Best dish they have on the menu! I eat breakfast here because for less than $5 you get decent amount if food (cafe con leche, tostada, eggs, and meat such as bacon or ham or sausage). My only complaint is that I asked for pancakes and I received 3 Eggo waffles. The waitress did not mention that they didn't serve pancakes, instead of politely telling me that this, she served me 3 frozen waffles. That was very unpleasant. Also, tell them to not add so much butter to the tostada, they go overboard with butter. Overall, the restaurants could use improvements in their service, but they are always busy and packed so that famous mofongo definitely brings in the locals and tourists.

there are only 2 restaurants that I actually fiend for their food...las vegas and el rinconcito! the food is to DIE for soo yummy and straight homegrown cooking. we usually get them catered to our office for rep lunches and when we do it's a good full day.

My mom, sister and I went out for some dinner here a few days before Christmas. Now, I come here all the time to eat and I must say this was my favorite time to come. The live music was amazing. They played old songs that told stories and showed nothing but love to our beautiful island of Puerto Rico. It was so packed I must say, and the wait to get in that night was ridiculous, but it was SOO worth it! If you want to have dinner here on any given night, there is usually no wait to 10 minutes wait. Not bad right? What surprised me was that even though it was so full of people we still got our food at a reasonable time. So 1st on the menu we had Mofongo with chicken and what we call 'caldo', which is like ordering soup but with nothing in it, just the broth. So what you do is pour the caldo little by little over the mofongo as you eat it. It is absolutely delicious. 2nd are the Surullos. These here are the bomb!! They are made from corn and have cheese inside. You usually dip these in this sauce that I honestly don't know the name of, but it's ketchup and mayo mixed together. Last but no least is the lovely pionono. Its ground beefs in cheese and plantains then breaded. It's nothing more than perfection! This is the closest thing to Puerto Rico here in the the middle of Cubanville, South Florida. (:

I was excited to take my mom and sister to lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I was very disappointed with the service and the food. The service: needed to ask for utensils, twice. Needed to ask for a soup spoon for the soup; it came with a teaspoon. The appetizer Pionono was very good. My sister ordered the mofongo with shrimp. I ordered the mofongo with stewed fish, and my mom ordered the Asopon de Marisco (seafood soup). The mofongo was made with boiled green plantains. Mofongo is made with fried green plantains that are then mashed. Mashed boiled plantains is called Mangu. If I wanted Mangu I would have gone somewhere else. The stewed fish that accompanied my warm, NOT Mofongo was room temperature. It was as if they had the fish sitting on a plate and then poured warm tomato sauce over it. Not cool. My mom's soup was room temperature and the presentation was messy. She was not pleased. We will not return - ever. Too expensive for the quality of the food.

Stumbled upon this place and was so glad their alcapurrias were amazing. Also, got the mofongo and it was moist and yummy. The picadillo was alright, salty, fatty, and chunky...not the way I like it but it wasn't terrible. In the middle of our meal, they played loud music and waiters came out with maracas and other instruments and were singing. It was a cute surprise. They were singing happy birthday. This is where I will be taking a friend for a Puerto Rican birthday surprise :)

Finally found a Puerto Rican restaurant in this area. The food was amazing, the mofongo is moisty and the tostones with shrimp was perfect. Above all, the service was fantastic, it was fast, organized, very efficient. Which is very uncharacteristic of Miami. Highly recommend this place.

Craving Puerto Rican food? This is as good as it get's in Miami. The mofongo here is seriously good (5 stars just for that). I've tried several places and this is just the best. Period! I last went with a large party for my grandma's bday and have to say the service was really great. We went on a Sat in the early evening (around 6) because this place usually get's really packed at night and didn't wait long at all (even with 12 ppl). If it's your bday they get up and start singing and dancing just for you! really fun. We had the large platter for appetizer.. everything was soooo good. Most of us had mofongo... every type on the menu and they were all delicioso. Aroz con gandules were also really tasty. Churrasco was impecable. Ugh... I can't wait to go back and stuff my face.

Best Puerto Rican restaurant in South Florida. I love how the owners make you feel like family. I never had a problem with the waiters. They always check on you to see if you need anything else. The food is sooooooo delicious. If your boriqua and new to the area this is the place to eat.

In one word... Amazing... I had been craving some real Puerto Rican food and turned to Google to help me find one... Read some reviews and decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed! Reminded me of my mom & grandmothers home cooking... The mofongo con masitas de puerco was dee-lish!! I was in HEAVEN!! It was so soft and moist... Not dry like others that I have tried. The meat is served on the side so that you can enjoy it however you would like. My BF and I had the platter with the pernil and all sorts of other deliciousness. I agree that it is a little difficult to find... I had to use GPS. Totally worth it in the end. Left there stuffed with TONS of food left over. Ate again later that night AND the next day!!! Since then I visited again with my cousin who was visiting from NYC and we were just on the phone the other day when she mentioned that she can't wait to come back to go back to "that Puerto Rican restaurant"... Lol I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for real PR home style cooking!!

One of my favorite places to have puertorican food like "mofongo", Arroz con gandures" (rice with green pigeons) and many other puertorican food that you have to taste because is not the same if I tried to explain it here. Ask for arroz con gandures, pernil y mofongo and you will have like the traditional meal of puertoricans especially at Christmas. If you have any doubt at how to pronounce the names, look for me at the next Yelp's event (tonight at Brazilian night) and I will show you how to pronounce it ;-)

I got the mofongo con masas de cerdo based on the yelp reviews, but I thought it was tasteless. At least the service was good.

This place is amazing. I realized I've eaten their a few times and had not posted anything so of course, I'm putting in my 2cents. I love their churrasco. It's always tender and has great flavor, their arroz con gandules is amazing. And their yuca with extra chicharrones of course is to die for. I always recommend this place when ppl ask what's a good place for authentic PR food. And don't forget the coquito by the glass or bottle. Also amazing. Can't wait to go back. Try it for yourself u will not b let down

This has to be one of Hialeah's if not Miami's best kept secrets. I've been here a few times now and I've never had a bad meal. Their claim to fame is their Mofongo. It's great but heavy. It comes with little pieces of chicharon (pork rinds) in it. I prefer to get it with Masas de Puerco (Fried Pork Chunks) and let me tell you, those Pork Chunks may be the best I've had. I also really like their Pan con Bistec and I've also had the Cuban Fritta which was OK. By the way, the place is very affordable. Try it!

This is definitely as good as it gets. My boyfriend and I were looking to get authentic Puerto Rican food and this place did not disappoint. After reading a lot of reviews on Yelp, we decided to try this place out. Although we got there at around 940pm and noticed that they closed at 10pm it was jam packed. There was people dancing, singing and having a good time. The food was awesome, I had the baby churassco with red beans, rice and tostones and my boyfriend had the chicharon with red beans, rice and tostones. I will gladly take the 40 minute trip out here again next time I'm in Miami. I can't forget the garlic bread they sent over when we sat down ... it was DELICIOUS!

  • Gabriela G.

This place is good but should not advertise as puerto rican food I am puerto rican and the "mofongo" uses platanos maduros instead of platanos verdes (ripe instead of green plaints) which makes it mangu and not mofongo. It was the best mangu ive had but not mofongo.the masas de puerco were bland HOWEVER the sorullitos and habichuelas rojas (red beans) are legit!!!!!!! the best! even compared to restaurants in PR! if you are craving mofongo dont go here.. try mi viejo san juan, benny sea food, or this cafeteria on NW 7 St and just east of le jeune.. has really cheap and really good mofongo! but if you want red beans and sorullos this is the place to go!

First, this place is clean considering it's in a shopping plaza in Hialeah. The mofongo is excellent. I've also had the skirt steak and mariquitas. Save room for dessert! The price here is great and so is the variety of dishes on the menu.

My family tends to come here after big celebrations for dinner. They are always happy to attend to us and sit us down promptly for large parties. I normally get the grilled chicken with rice and plantains. They have many great staples, like their mofongo and acapuria. For dessert if I have any room left I always get the flan.

My sister has been talking about this place recently and how delicious it is. I remembered I had been here before, years ago like when i was 22, and that was years ago LOL. Comes to show you, that if your food is good, then you can stick around for a long time. I love mofongo and when my sis told me the other night she was going with our parents after work on a Friday, I was like I'm in. I'll start by saying its off the Palmetto, and it may be hard to find if you don't know Hialeah or have a hard time navigating the streets. The place is in the middle of a strip mall, so don't expect luxury, just good authentic Puerto Rican food. I ordered the mofongo with pork and it was so good! I normally like it all together, but here they put the monfogo separate from your meat of choice. You can pick chicken, pork, beef, etc. I liked that they separated it, because you can eat it how you want it! The masitas de puerco were so good. They had a little bit of fat, but you can easily take it off. The right amount of onions and green peppers too. There is also a little sauce, which may be mojo, but not really sure. Doesn't matter, I still poured some of the mofongo. The serving is pretty big, and after having some mariquitas as well, I was full. I took the rest home, and had it the next day and it was still good. The service was okay, took us a while to get water, etc, but then again I usually know what to expect or not to expect in small places like this. Overall, it was great and can't wait to go back again!

Omg! I've been hearing about this place for quite some time now but been hesitant to go because it's in Hialeah. Well today I had to go to Hialeah to pick up something and I decided there is no time like the present to try this restaurant and let me tell you it was well worth the traffic and bad drivers. I ordered the mofongo with pork chops and Oxtail with rice and everything was DIVINE. I can't wait to go back to Hialeah, that's something I never thought would ever come out of my mouth.

First and foremost I love this place!! It was the most hickest Puerto Rican place I have ever been outside of the island. From the singing and the dancing to the freaking delicious mofongo and coquito I was in heaven. My mom was happy my nieces were content and my sister enjoyed herself, mission accomplished. Trust me you won't regret it, it's worth every moment and penny! If you're a real jibaro trust me you won't regret it!

El rinconcito is very nice clean place in Hialeah ,the food is great ,the Mofongo is just like the one in San Juan. The service is nice ,simple and basic ,this is a place to go if you are hungry for Puertorican food and want to gain a few pounds, great place Normal prices.

Im from Miami but went to live in Puerto Rico for 4 years and everytime I get the craving of eating PR food, this is the place my family and I head to. A must is the "Mofongo" Delicious!!! I must say everything on the menu is great. Atmosphere feels just like any restaurant in PR. They also have cuban food on the menu that is very good as well.

  • Justo M.

I like this place, and if I am hungry and in the neighborhood I am stopping in. I always order the 'pasteles Puertoriqueno' with 'arroz con gandules' which is yellow rice with pigeon peas. They make the best 'arroz con gandules' trust me. I would have to rate their mofongo a notch above Benny's Seafood and the old Papa Rudys which no longer exists. Their service is always prompt, and the waitresses are always standing by waiting to take care of your needs. Their churrasco is good, but when it comes to other Puerto Rican favorites, I give the nod to Benny's.

If you're a mofongo lover go to another restaurant. These guys doesn't know how the mofongo is done What they gave me was like a plantain puree made by almost ripe plantains. I did request it with chicharrones but the put only 3-4 small ones on top. The amount of mofongo is leveled at the pilon border not like other restaurants where it bulges over. I did pay for what in other restaurants you have to request a container to take home what you don't need so I finished my portion and still was hungry for a similar price.

  • I R.

OMG! The food is not very good here, and I am being nice. I had the flavorless arroz con gandules, pastel, and pork. The pork was actually okay but the rice and pastel were flavorless. My husband had the mofongo and as mentioned in a previous post it tasted greasy. This place was a big letdown as I wanted some tasty Puertorican food. Save yourself the trip and find somewhere else to eat. I have had really good, tasty Puertorican food and this is not it.

This restaurant is located in a shopping strip in Hialeah but is surprisingly big, clean, and pretty busy! I've been there several times and had Mofongo con pollo al ajillo. The pollo al ajillo is ok, it is served in a white garlic sauce. I've ordered it before and forgotten that I'm not fond of it. I tend to expect it to be grilled or fried with garlic but it almost seems poached. The mofongo is delicious with all the crunch chicharrones on top and inside. We had a grilled chicken breast stuffed with mofongo ordered at our table and it was amazing. The chicken had so much flavor. We also ordered the tostones relleno con camarones to start and it was also tasty!

Best Puerto Rican food in Miami at an unbelievable price. If I could eat whatever I wanted without gaining a gazillion pounds, (i.e. mofongo, pionono, arroz con gandules, etc.) I would eat here every day. It's that good!

Weird My order was for pick up The young retarded girl that took our order was from another planet-she knew nothing of the menu and almost over charged us for her lack of knowledge, thank god I've seen the menu online before hand and called back while in route to discuss the prices vs what I ordered. On the second call back the retared girl gave up tryn to help me and gave the phone to a much mature individual-she adjusted our order and price with no problem. We were greated with a man in the entry way playin Latin music very loudly and another very happy nice man welcoming us inside (screaming btw) he pointed the way to the pick up room and there she was in all her imature, retarted, Latin ghetto fab glory, our helpful phone chick. No wonder she was always in such a rush to get us off the phone; there was a tiny little toddler/I mean guy there giving her attention I guess, she said my name as soon as we entered and her little BFF was not pleased to see us-I felt like a little highschooler for a second. Anyways the food was ehhhhhhhh. We ordered the jibarito sandwich and it was gigantic-I was so excicted-but it tasted like Crap-greasy, sour, and made us feel sick later that night. When the hell is steak supposed to have a sour taste?! Never again :(

el rinconsito de santa barbara... ive been here a few times for their special. the mofongo. for those who dont know what mofongo is. mofongo is a dish made from fried green plantains seasoned with garlic, olive oil and pork cracklings, then mashed. sounds good no? you bet it is.

Well a co-worker of my wife recommended this restaurant because both of us are from Puerto Rico. Now he did told us that the mofongo was the best plate in there and it was very economical. So on our day off we decided to try it.We order the mofongo with pollo al ajillo. The chicken was ok the mofongo was not good at all.My wife coudnt even finish the the plate.I had to use salt on the mofongo cause it didnt had any taste at all.The price was very good but ill prefer to pay a little more and get some better quality food somewhere else. Also this is a Puertorican/Cuban restaurant which I dont mind but for true puertorican food I still think bennys is the top notch. From my expirience I will not come back here at all..Also what kind of Puertorican restaurant doesnt serve asopao de pollo, asopao de langosta.......Sopa de pollo and sopa de marisco is not the same thing,If wanted to eat some chicken soup ill go to la carreta.Another thing dont confuse the price of the restaurant for the quality of the food, because the price is good but the quality of the food is not.
